Cool, contemporary gastro-lounge offering elevated local comfort food, cocktails, DJs & dancing.
The Common - Edmonton: Great Ambiance, Average Vegetarian Fare The Common stands out in Edmonton for its stylish ambiance and vibrant atmosphere. The industrial-chic decor, dim lighting, and upbeat vibe make it a great place to catch up with friends or enjoy a night out. Whether you're there for dinner or a DJ night, the energy is infectious. For vegetarians, however, the food can feel underwhelming. The Truffle Fries are a crowd-pleaser, perfectly crisp and flavorful. The Vegetarian Burger, while decent, lacks the wow factor you'd hope for in a main course, and the patty could use more seasoning. The Roasted Cauliflower is a bit disappointed because it smells oily. Cocktails and drinks remain decent. Unfortunately, the vegetarian menu offerings feel limited and don’t quite match the quality of the overall experience. The service is friendly and efficient, and the ambiance alone makes it worth a visit, but if you're looking for exceptional vegetarian food, you might leave a bit disappointed.
Everytime I have family and friends in town, I take them here. That's because it's a consistent place. Good music. Good bartenders. Good crowd. But, last night was the first time my experience was ruined before I even went passed the coat check. Whoever this young woman was needs to have a manager talk to her about customer service. She was so rude I was taken aback. She didn't even acknowledge me as I patiently waited. Someone cut me off and she immediately addressed them and then finally I had to get her attention and she yelled at me to wait my turn. It was just weird and very intentional to be unkind and present no manners. Just awful. Luckily, the gentleman checking IDs was professional. Then, the bathrooms were disgusting. Every single one was not working. I couldn't believe this was happening. I decided to leave the establishment after that. If anyone wants to reach out to me, I will happily update this review. But, that coat check employee was very unprofessional. It sucks as we bring a lot of business whenever we come by.
Got to enjoy a private event at The Common today, food was excellent! Had many different handheld foods, but the star of the show was the taco bar. Had both corn tortilla and Naan and meats were beef, chicken, pork belly and yam as a vegetarian option. Really enjoyed the chicken and waffle appetizers as well. Staff were super kind and accommodating as well.
While planning for our wedding reception, we prioritized great music, food, and drinks. The Common quickly became our first choice and absolutely exceeded our expectations. It is clear the Common is a family business and I say this as a high compliment. We were taken care of the whole evening and felt our event was given their full attention and consideration. Kyla's ability to plan, coordinate, and run an event are second to none. She was easy to work with, practical, and incredibly accommodating. She had excellent suggestions for the space and flow of the evening during the planning process. We love the atmosphere and vibe of the Common and chose to lean into a restaurant style seating for our dinner. They executed this and our decor perfectly. It also transitioned into the perfect dance floor with the disco balls and lighting immediately shifting the vibe. Special thanks for also connecting us with our top music choice, DJ Echo (@alloutecho). For a couple of who loves and appreciates good music and mixing, this is the DJ to keep your dance floor going the whole night. Furthermore, the food and drinks were delicious. To this day, our guests continue to rave about the quality and taste of the food, including the late night snack. The service was also excellent - the staff were accommodating/kind, fun, and kept the drinks flowing. Overall, we cannot thank the team at the Common enough for helping our night come together perfectly.
Tofu crisp was bang on, Lavender Lemonade was deadly. The decor inside was so well done. Great lil Appy and Drinks break.
We had our wedding reception at the Common and it was perfect. The planning was so very smooth. The manager Kyla was always available, upfront and made everything work for us. The buffet was fantastic, all positive comments from our guests, who were a mix of foodies and picky eaters. We had signature cocktails and our guests said they were the best that they've had at a wedding. The staff were INCREDIBLE! They went above and beyond for us. By the end of our night, we became great friends with the team and were just as excited for our special day as our closest loved ones. Truly, we were so impressed with the servers, bartenders and security staff. Kyla stayed late to make sure we were happy. I can't say enough positive things about the staff. The Common has always been one of my favourite restaurants. It was our first time booking it for an event and we were blown away. Words cannot express how happy we were!
The food was surprisingly good. Interesting mix of flavours that works really well and gives a unique taste to the items. Loved the Ambience too, calm, chill and yet sophisticated. Perfect for a date night or a little grad/wedding celebration The mojito and brisket eye were a perfect!
Chicken and waffles special on Monday with a beer was $17 (regular $13 without a beer). The chicken did not disappoint. Generous portion, great waffles, rhubarb reduction was not too sweet. Grilled zucchini salad was pricey for the portion but a nice change from other basic salads. Everyone was friendly and service was prompt.
Nice place for hangout and service is great
I got the poutine which was really good, and I mark hard, but one of my coworker got the chicken Parm and one piece was burnt black, they did make her a new one and it was good, but it should have never been served. I love the atmosphere and decor, its really fun and lovely and its not too loud to chat which is nice.
Went to The Common for Halloween weekend and I was kicked out of the club by the bald middle aged overweight bouncer Johnny while going for a smoke. Told me I was I was falling over and drunk... except I hadnt had any drinks and was the Designated Driver... I had a knee sprain. After mentioning this the bouncer with 4 total teeth comes over and tells me my sprained knee is liability and that my stumbling was more than the sprain man. He claims he saw all of this at the entrance to the club, but why didnt he say anything before? Its so I would pay the cover and then they could kick me out. After flawlessly demonstrating to both that I was sober and this was just my knee sprain the bouncer whos teeth have eroded from the drugs he does tells me I am not spending anyways so may as well leave. Dont come here if youre a young person because they will take advantage of the fact that you wont make a scene when approached and that you are naïve. Johnny will mess with the wrong guy one day and he wont be coming home to his family which is the day well all celebrate.
**PHOTOS NOT TAKEN AT THE COMMON, TAKEN AT CENTRAL SOCIAL HALL*** I never thought I would be writing a bad review of the common but I feel I would be remiss not to after what happened, especially after reading such glowing reviews specifically of the event coordinator, Kyla. I ve been coming here for well over ten years and always had so much fun at the club nights and enjoyed the food and drink so when we were looking to book a private section in a restaurant for our 23 person wedding which we planned in 32 days, it felt natural to look into the common. I initially reached out on a Saturday and mentioned our tight timeline, my email was returned the following Monday. This was fine, I figured she must work business hours. I asked for a call to discuss and Kyla called me later that day to give some details. She was short on the phone - specifically when I said I wanted to enter the space at 10am the morning of our wedding so I could set up our decor with my florist and her response was just no . Looking back on her email, it stated I could have the space from anytime until 10pm so that was confusing. She said they would set up the decor which I didn t like but put a pin in it to discuss later. We ended the conversation by saying I will go look at the space to confirm it was what I wanted since I didn t know where the room would be divided. Two hours later I went, liked it and emailed her to say we wanted it and asked if I could send her a deposit. The next day I heard nothing, two days later nothing so I emailed to say hey just want to confirm we re all good for the space on the date we need and reminded her of our tight timeline, no response. The next day I called her back on the number she called me from Monday. She answered and was immediately rude once she realized who I was, said she was picking up her daughter and she d get back to me. I didn t expect a response based on how she spoke to me like I was nothing to her on the phone but to my surprise she emailed some details that night. I got back to her right away and she sent over info for the deposit and dj the next morning. After sending the deposit I didn t get a confirmation of the deposit paid or a thank you. Nothing until her assistant emailed two days later with a few more nuggets of answers to my questions. I again responded to his right away with a few more questions, requesting a time to meet to discuss the layout and details so we could clarify everything at one time without all the back and forth and I could move forward with ordering flowers and decor. Nothing for another two days which was the point I decided to pull the plug and request my despot back. I explained why I was doing so and got an immediate response which was somewhat apologetic but overall very defensive and not at all trying to keep our business, just saying they were too busy right now to respond to people quickly. They sent the refund over right away the next morning and the accountant sent an email basically saying I should be grateful they are refunding me this non refundable deposit. We ended up hosting our wedding at central social hall just two blocks away and they were fabulous! They brought us in beforehand and comped a bunch of food for us to try so we could select what to put on our custom menus for the night. Every email was responded to quickly and politely and I can t say enough good things about the service the night of. They truly went above and beyond so we decided to send over an additional tip to five of the servers and bartenders who really stood out. My feeling with how everything went down with the common was that our 23 person wedding wasn t going to make them enough money so they didn t want the trouble of having us there. We ending up spending more than double what the minimum spend of the south room was so that again is confusing. I m honestly so glad they were so rude to us and we decided not to go with them because our day could not have gone any better and it felt like the common wouldn t have even known we were coming!
Whenever Im in town I come here. I just like the vibe, the bar is great without being pretentious and seems like the locals like it too. Wine is delicious at happy hour!
Excellent ! Food great, service great, atmosphere great! A definite place to go again! Cheers Went again last week NEVER DISAPPOINTED! The food the atmosphere and most of all the service! Always going to go back! And the plus side the bill was amazing for what we had! Bravo
If you want to impress someone with a vibe, but don t care about the substance this is a great place. The atmosphere was cool and speakeasy esque. Our Server Sora was great, but seemed unsupported for a larger party so the table wasn t properly attended to in my opinion, ie. empty drinks/no quality check, or manager touch. Drinks were meh at best. Food was actually the worst part of it all we had the charcuterie, the steak frites and the spaghetti. None of it was really worth it. The charcuterie had a lot of filler (hummus, dates and olives) and very little of the meats and cheeses, bread was good though. Spaghetti is spaghetti so yeah it tastes like spaghetti, but the steak was charred and very overdone came out med well, but was supposed to be medium rare. By the time Sora actually got close enough that I could flag her down I was not hungry anymore and didn t want to wait for a replacement. They also Charged full price for the burnt piece of beef. Music was tame and wonderful, but became obnoxiously loud and dj d around 9:30-9:45 and honestly nobody seemed like they were into that from what I saw. It is a Saturday though. My thoughts are to maybe take a date here, you can enjoy the vibe and hate on the food together.
Erica is the most friendly & pleasant server ever and she serves the best old fashion in town, it s her specialty. She was so sweet, friendly and had the most cheerful smile ever.
I went for the Wednesday Jazz night for a date and I wouldnt say its the nicest to enjoy a conversation. Unfortunately the music was very loud and the table we reserved was at the far back (I called 45 mins after open hours and told the person. it was my first time and a good seat for the performances would be appreciated) we got placed at the back of the venue which made us feel like why bother with a reservation. We struggled to hear each other which made it difficult to enjoy company. I also unfortunately didnt feel the waiter we had was attentive or approachable. I had to remind him of my drink order I placed and a refill on the water which seemed to have upset him. Not sure what the deal was there, maybe he was overstimulated. He didnt ask us how the food was during and I didnt receive another refill so that wasnt service I appreciated. Towards the end we asked a different server for our bill because our server was m.i.a. Food was decent, the decor is fun and the drinks are meh. Would I go back, sure, but not with high expectations.
Good food during the day, good music at night. Dance floor can get crowded easily but there s quite a bit of sitting room.
The Common is a great place to hangout for a couple of drinks or bites! The food was absolutely delicious and the staff were amazing! It s a really lovely place!
Its a great place, the patio is really cool, and the server was super nice, coming back soon.
I like this place.. its a good vibe.. my friend from school used to manage 9910.. i have long hair and a beard and make more money at age 27 then the owner of this place.. you think thats a joke.. the idiots who work here who seem to be really friendly so far and good with service but tried to charge me for 2 extra beers and claimed it was a mistake today.. i have an iq of over 170 and am 6 foot 5 and one of the strongest people in the world.. maybe dont try and pull fast ones on giants because it takes us 5 times us much beer as the skinny dudes who work here to get drunk.. thats a mistake? What? Thats fraud guys.. also being rich i am cheap i noticed they will charge you automatically for the more expensive beer during happy hour then charge you for a cheaper beer for the Thursday deal.. probably a machine problem honestly but still.. also make the hot wings hotter and keep the dill.. no sports on the tv and keep the amc channel.. live music seems alright.. crowd isnt awful
This was our first time at The Common and we went during Happy Hour . The staff were very good . Very limited food choices on the HH menu so I asked our waitress what she thought of the Beef Dip . She recommended it; however it had a very small amount of meat and the bun was very dry. I would not order this again and the food is just so so .
Our wedding venue ! Our guests said it was the best food they ever had - smoked chicken, greens and a variety of food. Service was wonderful and the bar had every drink you could think of. The ambience was perfect - the room is beautiful, great lighting and the decor is so lovely that we barely had to make any add ons. The space was perfect to have both a raucous dance floor, and the back bar for the guests who were visiting over drinks. The staff were kind and accommodating, and generous to all of our guests. The owner Kyla was easy to communicate with, on top Of all details, and made our night seamless and spectacular. They went above and beyond to accommodate us for photos and to care for our guests. Best night of our lives, and the common, souls and their staff were a huge part of it. And now we get to look forward to regularly visiting the place we got married!
Great atmosphere and excellent service!
Truffle popcorn is amazing. Only had drinks and popcorn but good selection of beer and spirits.
Great experience. Mickey was the best server. Good food. Good environment. 10/10 would recommend.
Crispy Beef Salad is fantastic! Friendly staff, clean spot, records spinning, solid Happy Hour selections, and a burlesque show on top.
So good. Food put me to sleep, it was that good
Fun experience for dancing. Honestly didnt know there was dinning here, until a friend pointed it out.
My friends and I came for Wednesday jazz and it was amazing! Kelsey was so awesome and accommodating. She was very helpful in finding us a table despite it being full and her being busy. Music was so good! Strongly recommend coming to watch jazz
Always fun night
This party place is not good. The door guy with the ID scan is weird and rude to us so I wouldn t recommend the vibes alone at the entrance is not it.
I cant say enough about The Common! The incredible servers - Kelsey, Matthew, Mickey, Courtney, and Rena - have a knack for making you feel like long time friends or family from the moment you step in. Whether its grabbing a quick bite or winding down during happy hour after a long mental health walk, The Common has become a go-to spot. The friendly atmosphere coupled with their quick service ensures youre never left waiting! Highly recommend this gem to anyone looking for a great drink, even better company, and a welcoming vibe!
Pretty awesome place to grab a drink. Great atmosphere and awesome service!
Always 5 stars. I dont know why Google keeps asking me. Just go already, youll enjoy it!!!
Loved this cozy venue for live music! (Shaela Miller and Sam the Living.) Food and service was excellent. Easy to find for downtown. Will definitely visit again!
I cannot overstate how much I love The Common. I get out to Edmonton once or twice a year and always go to The Common for one of my meals. This time I brought my parents who joined me for a visit - they loved it too! The ambience is perfect, the lively patrons are all having a great time, the staff are friendly and attentive, the drinks menu is delightful, and the new creations from the kitchen are amazing (try the naan meatball pizza!!! Omg so good.) I look forward to being back in September for the next version of Chicken and Waffles you come up with!
I was there with my gfs for drinks and we ordered their charcuterie. The drinks were fine. The charcuterie was the worst I have ever eaten & ordered. The selection to make it was bad as well as the presentation. Everyone I sent pics to said it looks bad. Dont order it if you come here. Its definitely not worth the $. Im not sure I want to try their food after this.
What a let down. Excited to try the common but left early and disappointed after our server hardly interacted with us, walked away while we were trying to ask questions, and did not come back to take our order for over 25 minutes (it was not even busy) so we left without getting food. Ended up having to ask the bartender for our bill.
Great staff.
nice decor and good vibes. Drinks are pretty good Food
So happy The Common is open for lunch (thursday and Friday only). Great place to gather and eat.
I ordered chicken and waffles. Even though the waffles were nice, the fried chicken breast was awfully dry and seems not fresh. Will not be returning for the same
Back again! Great spot for a bite to eat, inspired cocktails, great service, and fun atmosphere. Angeleyes martini is amazing, the chips and dips was very nice. Coming back for the baba ganoush! Truly fantastic experience here. Unparalleled vibes, love the artwork, staff was friendly and engaging. The food!! The drinks!! I cannot wait to come back, I was visiting for the week and The Common was my favourite restaurant in Edmonton. Vegetarian options: Lots of veggie and vegan options or substitutions!
Had reservations for 7:30 on Friday night. Our waitress Lizzy sat us down with water and menus, told us she d back back to take our drink orders and did not return for 20 minutes. We left and had a lovely night at cactus club.
2019 I came to The Common for lunch a while back. They offered decent food in a good atmosphere...However, it took a while before the food arrived so I d give them 7.5/10
Stumbled in on a live jazz jam session. Chicken and waffles and some good cocktails round out a Thursday evening nicely
Great place for dancing and drinking! Such a great place and the staff are awesome!
Great food and great service. Definitely try the chicken and waffles!
We stopped by for happy hour drinks after work and tried the devilled eggs and feature tacos (portabella vegetarian option). Im not usually one for the veggie option but the combination of the sauce and the tender but bouncy texture if the mushroom made me a fan. The devilled eggs were delicately pickled and gently spiced. Take note, when they say you get four eggs they really mean you get two eggs, spliced in half. Tomato / tomatto though, am I right?
Great happy hour!!!
We got the Fish and chips, the breading was soggy and wet inside and the fish wasnt flavorful, wasnt the best dish. We also got the Crispy chicken sandwich which was very flavorful and very delicious, loved this dish, the chicken breading was very good and not oily and the aioli was a definite win. For drinks we tried the good for what ails ya which had no flavor except the whiskey, very strong. Not a whiskey fan so I cannot properly judge. We also tried the club night, not much flavor but nice light foamy drink with a pretty purple, not strong alcohol flavor which was good. The atmosphere was very loud and energetic and warm, lots of people talking, staff were very friendly and helpful. Unique and creative décor, clean washrooms, and comfortable seating. No parking, you have to walk a bit from pay parking lots or some street parking so prepare for that. Dietary restrictions: they have quite a few gluten free options, not many nuts on the menu either.
This place has a very awesome atmosphere!! Romantic, relaxing and friendly! The food is absolutely delicious!!! The only reason for losing a star is because what i wanted to order off the menu was discontinued!!! The crab cakes! That s ok the tacos and truffle potato cannelloni were superb. Definitely a unique taste and experience and well worth the money. The staff are super friendly and do go above and beyond! Our waitress was super informative about the menu and was so great!!! The happy hour prices are amazing Tuesday to Friday 3:00 to 6:00 so worth it. Food and beverage!!!
This is one of the best restaurants in Edmonton. I had the Stroganof and it was amazing. I will definitely be back again and whenever friends from out of town come to visit I will bring them here. I cant wait to go back again!
The Mac and cheese is by far the best in the city! I love the atmosphere and vibes the room gives off! Very vintage with a modern take! Craft beer selection is great too!
The food is great, place looks cool. But the music is a serious earrape.
This was my second time eating here. The first time, the food was mind blowingly delicious but this second time we came the food was sub par, I had a burger and my girlfriend had a chicken sandwich. The burger wasnt anything special and the meat seems to be cooked weird and my girlfriends sandwich wasnt the best. However, we did order the charcuterie board which was really good and came with what I think was a dill cream cheese? Id definitely order it again. We also ordered old fashioned which was decent as well. Service was good and the staff was incredibly friendly, we will come back and try it again soon.
Best place in town
Th Djs on Friday not good
Feel good vibes here. Must visit!
Comfortable interior with nice staff. The food is very good and the prices are reasonable especially with everything else going up. I would recommend getting reservations as it usually is full in the evening. Great place to hangout after work or whenever you have some free time as they have a strong variety of well made dishes and drinks. Parking on street only.
Nice place to party a bit and enjoy. The music was okayish though. Perogies were nice.
The uninspiring descriptions on the menu nearly made us leave before ordering! Luckily our server was a delight and recommended some items- SO HAPPY WE STAYED! Food was out of this world... Vegetarian options: Loved the mussels and a couple of specials that night.
What a great space! Was at the AWE event this evening. The space is so beautiful. Love the ambiance. The service, food and drinks were fabulous. Looking forward to my next event there!!
The service was great, and the cocktails are fantastic! Highly recommend!
The chicken and waffles were great!
Went here for a friendly date and we think: Service - 6/10 as we entered we were seated right away which was a bonus, however no waiter/waitress was greeting us nor offered us water to start. We kept raising our hands but they were just ignoring us. Food - 8/10 it didn t give us that wow factor but the food was delicious. Chicken and waffles was amazing it was tender and just perfect. The steak tartare was good and the deviled eggs. However, I ordered the surf and turf. The croquette was a burned a little so I couldn t enjoy it much and the shrimp was just way too salty. But overall the food was great!
Very friendly staff and wonderful food
The Poutine was basic. Nothing spectacular.. and it was salty as all hell. But we did order the Deviled Eggs. Delicious. Kid-friendliness: The staff was amazing just wish the food matched the quality of customer service. Don t think we would come back.
This place just isnt my vibe. From the restaurant to the bar. Ill give it one more Try but I dont get the hype
Great food and drinks...in town for tennis tournament...it was a good choice!
Fabulous food! I didn t get a picture of my main because I forgot and ate it instead!
Amazing service quality and selection. The late night menu is perfect.
Great Atmosphere and service . Pretty hip place.
Cool vibe, great original food menu, quality drinks. Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian and vegan options, clearly shown on the menu. Kid-friendliness: Not child friendly
The food ! My God . Its been 2 years since my last time I ate here . from this point forward , Im eating here more often.
I love the food and ambiance, must visit once.
This place has amazing service, super nice servers, and a really cool vibe! Lots of drinks on the menu, and the wings were great! 4 stars because the patio is quite noisy with the cars right next to it (also warning, LOTS of mosquitoes at night) and it s hard to converse inside because the music is super loud.
Cool place, service was a little off. Table of 7 and 1 entree arrived after 6 had finished. They did comp that persons appy and dessert.
Yummy food and the band was great!
This is definitely a nice vibrant place to meet for food drinks and socializing. The atmosphere is welcoming relaxing and exciting. Menu offers a variety of choices for the customers and portions are very reasonable. I could not and would not give it a 5 star rating for atmosphere because of the sheer volume of noise. When this place is packed, you def need to speak louder to talk to others at your table. It may be a small thing to some but definitely noticable and should be considered when planning a get together. There is a bar/show downstairs and after dinner the place turns into a nightclub/ dancing. So plan to stick around and order some drinks and dance the night away. They have a decent drink menu. I definitely will be back but will plan for a loud fun social night not an intimate date dinner.
We have been there 3-4 times over the past 2-3 years. This time we found the mussels tiny and served with Naan bread which did nothing to soak up the sauce. The mushroom appetizer was just fine - nothing stood out about it. The surf and turf was good and so was the curry main. A little disappointed this time overall with food and service compared to previous visits.
One of the better places to dance to actual good tunes. Got rubbed the wrong way by a bouncer named john or Jeff, bigger guy. Made things personal and acted very unprofessional. Ruined my groove.
Great food, service and cool atmosphere. I had the deviled eggs and chicken and waffles. The cocktail menu was also on point.
Tucked into a hole in the wall just off jasper Ave, The common is an exceptional and unique atmosphere that encourages you to stay. Their menue looks absolutely fantastic, and though while we were there we did not tey the food it all read as delicious and well priced. We did have drinks and their signature cocktails were creative and delicious. Definitely would recommend and we surely will be back.
Pretty cool spot with yummy food. I had the wings and the mushroom toast. The mushroom toast was not what I pictured in my mind, and is also not for those who don t like strong garlic flavour, but I absolutely loved it! The wings I didn t get a good photo of but I loved how crunchy and juicy they were! Delish! We went there as part of the street car event which was a good time. I think there should have been more snacks on the street car.
Got lit, it was great.
my bf has been a frequent customer at this restaurant due to its weekly wednesday jazz jam nights, so I finally decided to join him. they had a special guest the night I went so it was packed! had to be ear to ear to hear my server, but still had excellent service. the poutine was ok, it fed me but I wasn t overly thrilled about it. the tacos my bf had were pork belly(the nights special), and he said were quite delicious. I have heard great things about their chicken and waffles so I will be back to try those, hopefully on a less packed night.
Servers are amazing. Value for money is pretty abysmal.
Appetizers were so good but mains were a little disappointing.
I have just come from home. I had a horrible experience on the dance floor. My friends and I went for a good night at common. We dined there and waited for the dance floor. to open. Before this, I had been to Common a few times; the experience had been pleasant. This time, we encountered this crazy woman who was always hitting and kicking while we were on the dance floor. She kicked my ankle twice; her elbow hit me and my friend multiple times, and she pulled my hair several times. We are ignoring it all while we can. We even showed the way she is dancing, which is hurting us. She still did not care. So we all decided to leave within an hour and a half after the dance floor opened. As we were going, she first pushed my friends, then she kept pushing and even kicked me. I had to keep her away by putting my one hand or elbow in between. I told her not to do this, or I would go let the bouncer about it. She told me, Oh, yeah, go ahead tell them! I know every one of them; no one is going to do anything. She was right; it was happening right in front of the bouncer. I even went to tell the bouncer everything. All he did was shake his head, yeah, and did not do anything. For a few seconds, I waited for him to tell her or even kick her out. He literally did not do anything and just stood there. Our server was also standing right beside him; she just stared at the whole thing. So, at that time, I realized that either she was related to the owner, part of the staff, or their regular patron, so they would not do anything and allow this kind of assault. I wonder if these things had happened with other Caucasian patrons, would the staff have taken action or still would not have done anything? So after this humiliating experience, I went ahead and told her F you! because none of the staff was doing the job they were supposed to do, then I left the restaurant. After this i will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone and me and my friends will not go again there.
The Common was an exceptional space to host our daughter s wedding reception. The food and drinks were top shelf and beyond delicious. The cozy, party atmosphere was the perfect place to celebrate their marriage. The staff looked after everything possible and some things we hadn t thought of. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. For making our special day all that we had hoped for. Astrid Mitchell
Good portions, cool place and friendly service. Great happy hour specials!
my girlfriend had been there before with some friends for drinks, said it was good place, thought we would try dinner, dressed to the nines, the hostess put us on a corner, beside a table of 8, and then about half way through the the meal, on the other side of us was sat a group of 10 very loud people, I had the red curry steak, it was cooked as I asked but was not impressed the curry really over powered everything, could barely taste the steak, server also forgot to give me a steak knife, my girlfriend ordered the bbq brisket, we were both expecting something else, took 5 minutes to get our servers attention, and if we didn t wave her down I don t think she would have done a quality check, we swapped out the brisket for the mac and cheese 0/2 on those ones, the mac and cheese was uncheesy and unappetizing, took another 5 minutes attention as she was occupied with her group tables, we went there for a romantic evening and were very underwhelmed and it ruined our evening, will not be back, would have tipped lower but there wasn t and option.
Busy place....no reservations but they found us a spot.
Husband and I Popped in for a quick dinner after work. Enjoyed some daily special tacos and Mac n Cheese off the happy hour menu with a draft beer. Very tasty food and decent happy hour prices. Would highly recommend! We will likely be coming back for another dinner with family or friends sometime! Parking: Had to park in the neighbouring neighbourhood and walk over. Would recommend carpooling or just walk a little to park!
We ordered the wings and they were good. The waitress was kind. The only thing I was really uncomfortable with was the tv had some movie playing where these guys kept hitting the women. It was causing me a lot of trauma bringing up past memories. If I want to watch a movie like that I would like to on my own terms not causally at a bar. We would have liked to have been sat in the actual dining area as well. We were sat by ourselves in a corner. Wasnt my favorite experience. But the server was really kind and we did enjoy the wings.
Great food and service. Highly recommend the dry red curry steak sandwich. Fries were top notch. Black forest cake beer was excellent.
Cool vibe, had the burger and fries.. so good!!!
Always fun and nice. The Common s private room for bookings has always been nice. Have been to a couple private events there. Always a blast. The horderves are always great!
Chicken was heavily undercooked and we couldnt notice from the amount of breading they overstacked on the chicken. Got very sick soon after eating and gave us salmonella. Has to be from here as nothing else was eaten during the day. Extremely disappointing based on the price of the food and the expectation that the food you eat at a restaurant will be safe.
The Common is a great hidden gem in Edmonton! I ve taken lots of people for their first visits and often it ends up becoming one of their favourite places to go! We used to come all the time on the weekends to do dinner and then we would stick around for the great music and dancing as well!
My first and only time coming to enjoy this establishment was an unpleasant experience and the hostess unfortunately was extremely rude. Would not recommend to my friends and family
One of my favourite places to eat and chill in the city. Great atmosphere and vibe. The food is always tasty and the service is on point. It s also one of my favourite party spots to hang out with friends!
Great place!
Cool hip spot. They play 90s hiphop on Saturday nights!
Absolutely the BEST chicken wings in Edmonton with a variety of great sauces. Customer service is always excellent with a great atmosphere.
Quality vibes, great bartenders and management. Solid all around. Would come back again!
You can request a private room for free, which is great for parties (adult only of course). Very accommodating.
Went here for dinner, drinks and dancing. The drinks and food were quite good - we ordered the Poblano Perogies, Pad Thai Fries (both of which were absolutely delicious) - we also ordered Whiskey Smash, Beastly, Pimms Cup, It Wasnt Me, Sazeracocoa, Serenity Now, Frosted Cosmo, and 2 draught beers - each drink was well made and balanced perfectly. Our server was a young Caucasian girl who wore glasses, she was super nice, helpful, insightful, and checked on us frequently. The bar had a nice ambiance, and the fact that theres no seating time limit is even nicer. The dj started around 930, and dancing started shortly after. The music wasnt really to our taste, so we danced for a little while, grabbed some drinks, and then left. Would definitely recommend this place if you want some good food, and drinks.
Great experience, great staff, no problems.
Best chicken and waffles!
Pleased with the Beef Wellington. They nailed the medium rare perfectly.
Went here for a celebration dinner with a few co-workers. It was my first time. Really liked the atmosphere and our server was outstanding. The food however was disappointing. One of my biggest pet peaves is when my food doesnt arrive to the table hot. Well this was the case with my Beef Wellington I ordered. One of my co-workers also ordered the Beef Wellington and she had the same problem. All the food on the plate was just warm, like it had been sitting. Typically Id send it back, but I didnt want to wait to eat and have my co-workers finished by the time it came. As for taste, the food was good. Value is okay for what you got. I wish there would have been a bit more sides. Maybe it was just an off night for the kitchen but based on my first experience, I likely wont be back or recommend.
We had our wedding at The Common and it was absolutely perfect. Kyla and her team killed every detail. They made it so easy for us, from the communication, coordination, and the staff the day of.
I came in for a drink with a few friends after a night out on the town. I got an old fashioned for $12.5. The bartender short poured me just a 1 oz when the menu calls for 1.5 oz. I paid $15 and waited for my change while the bartender served another patron. I had to ask for my change back and the the bartender seemed annoyed and gave $2 back. I didn t bother asking for the 50c but it s annoying as a customer to get short poured and incorrectly tendered. Would not recommend The Common to others. Rating 2 stars because they have a live DJ. Just don t expect good service.
The Common offered a great patio experience! The interior of the restaurant seems super cool though! I ordered the prairie fish and chips and it was outstanding! fries were salted to perfection and crispy! The fish had a tasty batter and was tender with a crispy outside! Food came out extremely fast and s/o to our server who great and friendly!
The Common is alright. I have been coming here for a few years now and have never had a bad experience. On my last visit I enjoyed the fish and chips, which were prepared well and presented in an appetizing fashion. I do wish the French fries were perhaps a little bit less fried, they seemed slightly over crisp but that may just be a preference. Their happy hour is pretty good, and they always have a nice selection of beers. The room has a fantastic vibe that would suit a romantic date or a Girls Night really well. It feels intimate and special, kind of like how The Manor (RIP) used to be. The other food selections are appetizing, and there is a nice variety, from small plates to heavier courses.
Came here for a bite to eat on Canada Day had a meowgarita (watermelon) and a burger with fries the gf had a beef dip. The fries were meh but the burger I think its the best burger Ive ever had (besides my own) and from a bar! One bite and I was in love! Service was good too gf enjoyed the heck outta her beef dip the drinks were tasty. Id love to come back and try the stroganoff.
Codiner and I experienced a Trolley Ride over the High Level Bridge and enjoyed a snack from Filistix plus samples from two seperate casks provided by a pair of Albert craft breweries. Afterwards we went to The Common to have a couple of pints and some food (the fish and chips were crunchy delicious). The interior is sort of retro/ comfortable. There are three areas, inside, a bar and a dining space and a social dancing space. We decided to sit at the east facing outdoor patio, given the nice weather (do note it sits right against the sidewalk and road). The menu to is varied, prices are reasonable, and service was great.
Great selection of craft beer
A great dining experience with excellent service. Sipping champagne on the outdoor patio. We then had the duck at Fu next door, this hidden gem is one of the best kept secrets. I will be back. The service and atmosphere are perfect!
I went to the common tonight for a drink and it was great! Shoutout to the friendly hostess Adama, who was really kind and encouraged me to try something new! She definately made me want to go back! The rest of the staff were great too! Thanks to my bar tender!
I ordered the brisket burger off skip the dishes. And it wasn t cooked it was not even pink it was more red. Skip the dishes only refunded me half the meal. Not enough enough to purchase a replacement meal.
Very busy restaurant, good services and good food.
Great atmosphere, delicious food and wonderful staff!!!
No respect for nearby residents. I am 60 meters away, but I might as well be smack dab in the middle of the dance floor. The outdoor speakers on the back patio face directly into my apartment. The owner thinks I should move to an acreage if I can t handle city noise, but the traffic noise is barely audible here, except when punctuated by emergency response vehicles or loud motorcycles or the odd bout of honking. The difference is that those vehicles pass by and aren t parked right outside my balcony making noise for four hours straight. In fact, I ve kept all my windows wide open all spring and summer, day and night, and have never been bothered by city noise . If they could face the speakers in towards their own establishment, that may help, but I suspect they don t because then it would be too loud for them to handle. It s not ambient music to dine by, it s concert level loud, loud, LOUD music. I can t understand why more thought wasn t put into speaker placement. Couldn t they be aimed towards 99 Avenue? I m all for a vibrant downtown also, part of which depends on the people who live here. I suspect I won t be coming by for a beer and burger anytime soon. I feel for businesses that have struggled during COVID, and I wish the owner a speedy bounce-back. I m just not willing to sacrifice all -or any, for that matter-of my Friday and Saturday evenings to that end. Please do something to make it reasonably acceptable for those who live in the neighborhood. UPDATE: The recent havoc and noise in the neighbourhood from the freedom convoy hopefully gives the Common a taste of its own medicine. Maybe they ll be a bit more sympathetic in the future to the noise issues they cause for residents. UPDATE to UPDATE: This is my second summer here, the first was unbearable because of the outdoor patio. This summer has been awesome without the outdoor patio goings-on. I wish you all the best, and hope you recover from COVID times. I might see you someday, if you are open to serve lunch before the dance music starts up.
A great venue. Delicious food. Theres usually an old school DJ playing. A good place to catch the vibes Edmonton offers.
Came back four years later with my wonderful girlfriend and with my reservation I was able to request they play a song we both love. Didnt get the hostesss name but she was wondeful, and our server, Matthew, was so wonderful and made for a lovely evening. The food is my favourite in the whole city and their mocktails are delightful. Well make sure to make a habit out of coming back.
I stopped here for a bit while out touring last night. I was met by an amazing young woman who was very friendly. I waited quite awhile for a server to come by, and ordered. Beer selection was not good. I ordered the crispy chicken burger and fries with gravy. Food came, and looked ok. The chicken was really over cooked and dry, and the topping topping was hard to find. Gravy showed up at the end of my meal. The server did not charge for the gravy, which was little more than brown water. Fries were meh, short little leftover pieces from the look of it. I could not pick them up to eat because they were that short...lol. When asked what I thought, I explained, and the answer was this.... people come here for the atmosphere and Ambience. Fair enough, I guess, but I came because I was hungry. So disappointing compared to when I used to meet friends there years ago. I see no need to go back.
The Common is so good, that even though I live in the country, Im planning my next visit. I went with three other people and we each tried a bit of each others food, and every bite was unbelievably delicious! Even with loving my selection, I was jealous of everyone elses too. Its a shame my stomach isnt bigger, then I could order so many dishes!
Fancy dining and good place for dates
One of the good place in town to have nice drink and food. Evenings are busy with a lot of nice peoples. Diversity, french speaker too. Its not cheap but its worth it. I will come back next trip!
We came and ask for table for 6, they told us 25 minutes, after 1:25m, we got a text that we were on waiting list, i asked another girl and nobody had idea whats going on. Never plan to go eat there! and get your car ready to escape after waste 1,5hs of your life
Amazing Experience! All of the staff were so warm and friendly and left us feeling like we were old friends of theirs. The fish and chips were EXCELLENT!!! Just like traditional English made! (My husband knows since hes from England). Our meals come out looking exactly like the pictures from their website! Great job guys! Thanks again for the wonderful time.. we will see you again when we come back to Edmonton and we will be bringing family from the UK with us when they visit
I would bathe in the squash soup i had tonight. It was so so delicious. My friend said the fish and chips were great as well! And the service was perfection!! Thanks so Much!
Josh is not only a great mixologist but also an exceptional human being.
Great! Linda! Fun! Enjoying!
Good food and drinks. Very good service and the atmosphere was pleasant.
Atmosphere is awesome. The live music on Wednesdays is a must see. Wasn t too fond of the goat cheese cheesecake however the service was great.
The Common is great! Across from my work so I go to there at least once a month. Best staff ever. Great drinks. The Pimms Cup is spectacular, same with wine. Great happy hour specials. Most food epic. Had the occasional boot, but they have great customer service. Awesome music. Sweet vibes. Have I mentioned best staff ever! Just love the place!
Great cocktails and some really creative, delicious takes on a variety of dishes. The staff were amazing, had helpful suggestions when asked and made the evening great.
DJ took my request and never played it. Went to ask him about it and he brushed me off.
