Chop Steakhouse & Bar in Edmonton

I recently dined at Chop and had a mixed experience. The steak was quite good, cooked perfectly and flavorful, but the service was not very timely we had to wait a long time to get the server s attention. We also ordered a kids pasta from the children s menu, and it was very underwhelming just plain noodles with nothing else. It really felt lacking compared to the rest of the menu. Overall, while the steak was enjoyable, the slow service and disappointing kids meal took away from the experience. I hope they can improve in these areas.

Waitress/Bartender was great. However, I had ordered my steak welldone due to having a rare meat intolerance. I had conveyed this to the server. My steak had arrived rare, as if the Chef had thought it was a joke. Manager has zero customer service sense and only offered two options in a very rude, take it or leave it way. Great place for drinks. Wont be returning for food anytime soon.

Can I seat you? Honestly we think she forgot we were behind her and gone. Every single drink ordered was wrong consistent at least. The training staff MUST be replaced.

We were staying at the Sandman and Chop is attached which makes it convenient. Service was attentive and friendly. I had the Chop burger with fries and it was really good. Tried some of my co-workers gnocchi, which was a special, it was decent as well. Forgot to take any pictures though.

Chop in downtown Edmonton is beside the Sandman Hotel. They have struggled over the years to offer a decent breakfast, often changing without notice. Last time we had to grab a coffee and a bagel on the way out of town. This time (Oct 2024) they offered a full breakfast menu in the 2nd floor dining room, which we needed after a late concert the night before. Breakfast was excellent. Service was cheerful, prompt and courteous. Even the coffee was perfect. Chop hit it out of the park. If you like a full breakfast before a long drive, give Chop a try before they change it again.

Great place, management is awesome, they take care of you really well. Feels like a higher class joint. Dietary restrictions: Are able to work around any dietary needs.

My first time ever in Edmonton, and visited this restaurant twice! The bartender, Amal was very friendly and sweet, even though the restaurant was a bit busy for that particular time of day. It would be nice to be served by her again, the next time I fly in, when I d have some more time to enjoy my stay! My only ask is to please have the espresso machine working, I was unable to have my favourite cocktail for 2 days in a row, which was kinda sad.

I had dinner here with a friend on a Saturday evening. We were seated in the upstairs dining room which was very intimate and quiet. Our server was friendly and accommodating to my friends requests. I started with a Sparkling Sangria which was very well made. Top Sirloin was cooked perfectly (medium) and was very tender and juicy. Overall the food was great. The restaurant is classily decorated and very spacious. I will definitely return.

Service is super slow , bad attitude from the servers. Why do you work here and wanting to get tips if you have that kind of attitude. Should get a different job instead

We went to Chop Downtown before the Oilers game and it was delicious!! I had the crab cakes and filet with mashed potatoes while my husband had the Ahi Tuna Tataki and a ribeye. We had great service from Amal. Also, a shout out to Julia for looking after us.

We made reservations for 5pm, to make sure we could make it for a 7pm oilers game. It was 6:30 pm and our meal still hadnt arrived. We left because it took too long, which was too bad because it looks like a lovely resteraunt. They have to do better on the service end.

Dropped in after an Oilers game. When I got there, two couples sat at the bar before me and they were served in a timely fashion as it wasnt busy. Three couples and two multi person groups came in and sat at the bar after me. The couples were all served before me. I was going to order a steak dinner but chose not to due to everyone else being served prior to a solo party. Had some wings and then ordered to my room from another establishment after. For spending over $50 for a drink and mediocre wings, definitely not worth it

Went for breakfast on a Sunday morning sat down waited 15 mins for our drinks. Then waited half hour for our food to come out, and it came out wrong. Then waited another 15 mins food still isnt out. All the while there is only 3 tables in the entire restaurant. Terrible experience ended up leaving without even eating. Will not be back.

The place is ok, nothing special about the ambiance or decor. I ordered the 6 oz filet mignon medium rare, the outside was crispy shell as you can see from the pick and the inside was only pink in the middle. It was overcooked and did not taste great. I gave the food 2 stars because it is a steakhouse and expect them to know how to cook a steak especially when I am paying that much for a tiny piece of meat.

Came into chop Thursday evening. Brittney was my server she was absolutely amazing, her service was spectacular. She was very knowledgable about the menu and full of great recommendations for pairing food and drinks. Definitely will be coming back!

Firstly let s start by saying this review is a MONTH overdue due to this restaurants inability to follow up on their complaints , Had my brothers birthday dinner here in September we were a group of 15 people , it took a very long time to get our food and when we did the server just dropped the plates and we had to figure out who ordered what , when asked to move the plate to the person who ordered it whom was at the other end of the table she rolled her eyes , our server was doing the best she could but one of our parties were given the wrong meal and the entire table had eaten before he could get his correct order , not only that most of our dishes were cold , one of our parties spoke to the manager who said he would be right back and never came back, we decided to just pay our bill and leave not even wanting to get desert just based on how long it took for us to get our food but we did anyways and to our dismay almost another 30 minute wait with not enough traffic in the restaurant to explain it , the day after our reservation I called the restaurant to make a complaint because tho the restaurant was not busy the manager never came back , I spoke to Julia another manager who said she would speak to the regional manager and get back to me and she never did i had to call back to follow up in that conversation she advised that we would be sent a gift card , that was on September 13 and it is now October 15 and still no gift card or communication to explain what had happened, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE don t be like my family spending collectively upwards of $900 just to have subpar cold food and mediocre service. Or be made promises that they never planned to fulfill. This place sucks.

I came in for a bite before the oilers game on Saturday and was served by Brooke. She was so kind and patient with our table. We really enjoyed her hospitality, and she made our pregame experience excellent. Thanks Brooke!

Just spent a week at the Sandman downtown and this attached restaurant wad obviously convenient. The food was just barely OK. We were a larger group and not what I would consider fussy by any stretch but each day, wether it be lunch or supper, at least one thing got sent back, mussels and crabcakes because they were cold, or other meals because they weren t cooked. I understand the world is short staffed but the service was frankly poor throughout the week. A busy week for them with the CFR in town and I suppose short staffed but still really really poor. Last night was exceptionally bad, the manager did offer to cover our bills but we didn t think that was fair, we did drink the drinks and eat the food, as long as it did take and as poor as it was, so we paid the bill. He did tell us he wanted to give us Chop Bucks or something, (I can t remember exactly what he called it) but then he disappeared too, never to be seen again. Although it s convenient, I d advise taking an extra few minutes and find a different place to go. (Hotel was good for what it s worth). UPDATE Felt it only fair to update the review above. The manager did reach out to us and we feel she genuinely wants us to experience what CHOP has to offer. We have to assume they were overwhelmed that week and that our next visit will be much much better. We will give it another try.

Don and I do not usually share our food when we go out to eat... but this was too good not to share! Even the gray was amazing. Service is excellent! Food was top tier! We are definitely coming back here.

While visiting from out of town, my wife and I stopped by Chop Steakhouse. The food was great! The rosemary on the prime rib was fantastic. Our server, Kelsey, was terrific. She was friendly and helpful, really making our first visit memorable. The cream of mushroom special was amazing. Would absolutely dine here again.

Stopped in for some late night food after a concert on Saturday night, server was very nice and bubbly, however after ordering our food, things went downhill. After waiting 15 minutes a nice gentleman (not the server) came to our table to inform us they had no Crab for the linguine. No worries as we switched to the vegetarian version. 5 minutes later he returned and informed us that they had the Crab but not the vegetables. He said he would let us pick anything else to replace it due to their error and also complimentary dessert. Food was ok. At last call for the kitchen 12am she asked if we wanted anything else, we ordered 2 cream brulee, which was delicious. Unfortunately we proceeded to sit there with empty plates till 1235. Had to find a server/manager to get our bill and the things he said would be covered were not. The nice server did finally get them off the bill. But what a painful dining experience. We are staying at the hotel all weekend and wont be back. The server aggressively cleaning silverware in the corner behind us was quite a comical distraction too.

Had come to this location after having terrible service at another steakhouse. They did not let down. This was by far the best steak Ive had. Kelsey was our waitress and she was amazing, above and beyond providing the best service experience. The atmosphere is wonderful. It was elegant and classy. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for an amazing steak with fantastic flavour, great tasting drinks and amazing staff. Worth every penny.

I had an absolutely amazing experience at Chop Steakhouse Downtown! Went out for a lovely meal and was greeted by our server Kelsey who made sure we had a wonderful time at the establishment! I had the prime rib and it was FABULOUS! Cooked perfectly with a delicious au jus paired with mashed potatoes and it was the best steak I ve ever had! The atmosphere was wonderful and the service was unbeatable!

**5 stars** I had a small issue with my steak being overdone (no big deal), but Ashley and Karoline went above and beyond to make it right. Their service was outstanding, and the replacement meal I received was absolutely incredible! This level of care and attention made my experience fantastic. My parents were evacuated from Jasper earlier this week, and finally ended up in Edmonton. They managed to get a room at the Sandman, so we went to Chop for dinner. Without knowing our situation, the entire team went above and beyond to bring us the rarest prime rib. They joked with us and were incredibly attentive. I know they were treating us well because thats what they do, but they had no idea how grateful we were for such a warm reception after such a harrowing ordeal, and I want to make sure theyre recognized for that. This was a stellar experience, from the service to the dessert, and everything in between. Not because its their job, but because thats who they are. Were far too quick to blame service staff for bad service, so I want to be clear that the Chop team is top-tier and treats all their guests amazingly well. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Felt really ignored by the waiter, ate like a bite of a burger she didnt ask any questions took her forever to check on on me salad tasted heavily of mustard Burger itself was burnt with way too much shredded lettuce and just generally not very good stale bun. Went for a family dinner to celebrate our daughters birthday. We started with the Goat cheese and honey truffle and mushroom, which was amazing. Pur daughter had the chop burger, my wife the prime rib. My SIL and I shared the 36oz Rib Eye for two. The burger was very juicy and tasty. The prime rib tender and quite flavorful. The Rib Eye was very very good! Tender and juicy. Our waiter was great, attentive and friendly. The servers were top notch. An extremely satisfying night out. 10/10

This was my wifes and my first time visiting chop. At first the service was great, until the servers realized that my wife and I were only going to be ordering one drink. after this realization it seemed like the server forgot we were even a customer. The food was over priced for the small servings. My steak was over cooked. It to the server 20 mins to bring us our bill. We definitely will not be returning.

Food was hit or miss, this location needs a bit of work given the prices and downtown location vibe. BUT Ashley our server made up for it all with her effervescence, her mixology and custom shot gifts to make up for the other stuff. Will likely still be back!

I agree this place has small portions and they raise the prices. They never know how to make a steak properly. All the servers care about is talking to each other and they dont care about their tables. Chop is going downhill so so bad. Was unacceptable service by Amal.

I booked a table here for my brother, husband and son for the Stanley Cup final on June 24th and I just have to say how outstanding the service and food was! We were in the dining area and were attended to by the most wonderful host, Maxim. He was so friendly, professional and accommodating. My son is a toddler and I know having a young child in a steak restaurant is not the most ideal scenario for diners and hosts but Maxim was so kind to us all. There was another gentleman making silly faces to make my son smile, and i really appreciated that! The food was amazing and i wanted to give special praise to Maxim and the manager (didnt catch his name but he had on a grey blazer), as he was so kind also! We caught the last 10 mins of the game in the lounge and we didnt realize we were in a reserved area, but the manager was honestly so nice about it as he suggested an area we could watch the last few minutes. Customer service, especially on one of the busiest nights in the city, is so rare to find but i wanted to give special attention and praise to both of these remarkable gentlemen. Thank you for making a family with a young child feel so welcomed!

The service by Amal this week was not up to chop standards. I see there are other reviews about her, and I hope people read the one star reviews about Amal, and go somewhere else where the food and service is better. We just moved our office to downtown and was hoping for a better experience what a disappointment by Amal.

We went and got filet mignon, my steak was slightly overcooked. We mentioned it to the manager who went completely above and beyond to remove our appies from our bill, as well as get us a free dessert trio. The fact they went so far to make it right, this place deserves 5 stars. That s service that doesn t even exist anymore and we were very grateful for it.

Worst steak of my life. The amount of salt ruined my order of a steak for 2. Its beyond inedible. What a complete waste of money. My first and last experience with this establishment. What a waste.

We ordered room service and all three of us had steak. One was more cooked than any of us would have preferred and we found they had quite a bit of pepper on them. We were only provided wooden utensils which were useless for cutting the steak. Also note, they add on their own gratuity.

It is one of my favorite places to eat in the city. First, because of Amal. She is the BEST server ever! Over a year ago, on my birthday, I met her. Since then, she has made every visit a wonderful and lovely dining experience. Amal is delightful, friendly, knowledgeable, and recommends food she knows Ill like. This place has some of the best food and drinks anywhere! I highly recommend it, you wont be disappointed. If youre lucky to meet or get served by Amal, youll come back again and again.

We will NOT return as long as Amal is working. She was serving US during a recent hockey game, granted it was very very busy, but complaining that nobody was helping her again. We want to come and have a nice outing before the game, and not listen to our servers complain.

I very rarely leave reviews because I never have an experience worth reviewing. Tonight I had the best experience I ve had in a restaurant in well over a decade. There was an issue with my meal, and immediately it was addressed by the amazing Kess and the management team. My steak was brought back out still not done well, and I was told that I would have a replacement shortly. To my surprise and delight, I was brought a full meal with new sides and a steak cooked to perfection. I was then informed by the manager that my meal would be taken care of. I will definitely come back to this location again. And I would love to give a huge shout out to my server Kess, who made the evening totally awesome. TL:DR. Ask for Kess as your server, she is amazing! And the management at this location is the best I ve seen in any restaurant to date. Thanks to all for a fantastic time

Came here for dinner as well as happy hour. Was not a busy weeknight, and we were seated promptly. Love the high ceiling and the roomy feel of the restaurant. Decor also felt classy. We had an amazing server who was very helpful with the menu and was very patient. I had to prime rib at her recommendation. It was excellent. And I was considering the prime rib versus the ribeye, and when I asked for her opinion, she recommended the ribeye. Looking back, she could have helped sold me on the more expensive ribeye, but she didnt. Will come back

ordered pick up and we came at the exact time that I put online, and when we got home the food is already cold and the potato is already quite hard on the edges. Mind you our house is only 4 mins away from the restaurant. My steak bites already went cold and hard. The flourless cake was good tho, other than that the others are not good.

Another fake 5 star review about AMAL. Chop do yourself a favor and higher someone who actually doesnt complain about everything like AMAL does. To your reply no I will not waste my time anymore on this. You say 99% of the people like her. Yet shes never ever busy at lunch time, yet you go across the street and theyre always packed. Go figure maybe its time to give this another think. She complains people dont tip her, on and on and on but I guess you dont see that.

I work in an adjacent building and often go to the Chop Lounge for lunch or afterwork drinks with colleagues, and sometimes with family / friends before events at Rogers Place. The service, food and atmosphere are always exceptional! Amal is there most days and has been our server for countless visits in the Chop Lounge. She always provides amazing service!

My new favourite Steakhouse! I went here for the first time for my birthday and everything was amazing. My husband called ahead of time to book a more quiet place of the resturaunt and they did not dissappoint. Amazing service and amazing food. All the staff were great, welcoming and even made me a card for my birthday. We got the 32oz steak and it was cooked to perfection. Would totally order again! We will definitely be coming back.

We had a wonderful time at Chop before the concert. We had the sous vide fillet and the smoked ribeye. They have the best smoked Old Fashioned and the best Bernaise we have ever tasted. I decided to go with steak as it is a steakhouse to try to see if it lived up to it s name - it blew this out of the water! The Sous Vide Fillet was soft and delicious and paired really well with the peppercorn sauce! They didn t have the bernaise sauce during the day but I am glad I got the peppercorn sauce recommended to me instead. Grapefruit soda was pretty good and not too strong. I would say however for the waitress taking our order to be careful with casting shade at other people in the group. Nobody complained the drinks were brought out late as a few people in my group came by late but I got a comment thrown at me by the waitress that the reason she brought their drinks late was that my order had to be placed in first.

We just celebrated my husbands 40th Birthday at Chop last night! We were a group of 40 people! We had such a great night! Everyone enjoyed their food and drinks. Service was fantastic! Went there for dinner. I had the crab pasta, which was very good. My husband had the burger and fries, which were awesome. Very crisp fries, the burger had all the right toppings to make every bite perfect. Great service, and atmosphere. Everything was really good, and we will be back for the burgers!

Don t even know where to start! Had Leandra as my server last week when my friend and I came out for dinner & drinks. She was amazing, when we come back to chop I hope she takes care of us again because we were so impressed.

My partner Tania is a teacher, and this is our special lunch spot during teacher s convention well we often come for dinner too when there s a Citadel show it s pedway-connected so easy to get to if the late February weather is nasty, the food is always amazing (Chop salad w steak and the steak bites are faves for sure!), and service is perfect! We ve had Amal several times - it starts with her welcome - it s so nice when someone remembers you! Timing, delivery, and attentiveness that s just right all combine to make it a great meal. (We like it so much we often give gift cards to friends and family for birthdays and they re never disappointed either!)

I had lunch here during the GETCA convention. Draft beer selection is good including craft beer offerings. I had the seared ahi tuna as my appie and the Chop steak salad as my main. Both were delicious. Totally recommend.

We went into the restaurant at 4 pm; no one waited on us till we asked a waitress to come over. Others who came in after us were waited on. They got my daughters order wrong. It took four requests to finally get her side order Ceasars salad. I was brought a beer I didnt order. LOL the waitress said its yours The fork in my cutlery was covered in dishwasher backed on egg yoke. The manager finally came over and said they would give my daughter a free full Ceasars salad. Then when she heard about the backed on egg yoke fork said everything was on the house. Nice effort!! This is supposedly a relatively classy resaurant; our experience would be something very different. Terrible terrible service on March 3rd.

I rarely take time to write reviews but our experience with Chop is worth the time and effort, although not for the reasons you d hope. We have ordered their Superfood Salads (x2) WEEKLY for at least a year. It has ALWAYS included: greens, cauliflower rice, radish, pumpkin seeds, pickled cabbage, chickpeas, avocado, broccolini, roasted squash and then choice of tofu ($24), chicken ($25) or shrimp ($27). A pricey salad but we enjoyed it so we splurged on it. Apparently between Sunday and Wednesday, Chop decided to get in on the shrinkflation and now for the SAME PRICE, you get the salad MINUS: BROCCOLINI, SQUASH, RADISH, AVOCADO, CABBAGE!!! It is ENRAGING that they more or less eliminated all the costly ingredients while charging the same. They must be making a KILLING off this salad now! We argued with the manager who then tried to gaslight us by saying that salad never had squash etc but here s a tip: don t gaslight customers that have one of your meals on a weekly basis! He then proceeded to say it was because broccoli had gotten more expensive. Yeah, welcome to life for the rest of us! Is that your excuse for all the other ingredients that actually added substance to a salad?!? Anyway, we refused the meals and got our money back and we ll never go back. There s way too many other places with better options than greens, protein and dressing for $30. Ironically, they haven t bothered to correlate their picture online which shows the salad AS IT WAS prior to Wed.

My wife and I dined before the Blake Shelton concert tonight. Our server Amal was excellent! She was incredibly friendly and even though she was busy she took her time to explain some things on the menu and gave us some great food suggestions. Will definitely be back.

Stayed at rhw sandman for a concert and came to chop beforehand for dinner and WOW! It was pretty busy but our server Amal was on top of everything! Everything was more than perfect, we havent had a good server in years that can very personable and attentive without being over bearing or non existent. The drinks and food were fantastic but made even better by Amal knowing every scotch on the self and the food menu inside out. Just perfection the whole visit. We will definitely be back

Taylar is the weirdest, server I ve ever had. But man does she ever entertain, need more servers like this in general.

Decided to treat myself to a night out, it isnt cheap, however Taylar and the rest of the guest experience made it very much worth it.

Had Taylar as my server, the past few visits. Absolutely love the interaction and care that was expressed! Will recommend Taylar to friends family and colleagues!

Steak was good, servers were all grouped up in a circle talking about who knows what. Did not fill up water once during my dad birthday. Bad experience. Bill came out to 400+ and made me doubt why i even came here. I always order the best from any restaurant I go. Everywhere else ive been has given me better service. Even a mcdonalds window taker has a smile on their face. Luckly I went to another chop location and recieved way better service! Please, ensure the staff are trained to give good service, I will never be back

I don t even know where to start. The food at this place is always amazingly delicious! But!! The smoked whiskey is to die for! I d give this place a 10 star but they only let you give 5. If you like good food and a little whiskey or red wine definitely a place to pop in and check out. Food

Valentines Day Dinner was disappointing. We ate in the upper portion of the restaurant. The 110 dollar steak to share, fries, brussels arrived arrived one hr and 10 minutes after ordering, far too long given it was all that was ordered, aside from drinks. The entire meal was luke warm and the medium rare steak had lost juiciness, a good portion of it now medium cooked as opposed to medium rare; for all appearances having sat under the heat lamp waiting to be served. We took the brussels with us as they were the coldest of the 3 items, so the hope was warming them at home might make them more palatable. The server took the drinks off the bill for the long wait, which was appreciated. I was being treated to the meal, so it was not my place to comment, but I thought your restaurant should be aware. You are a steakhouse, emphasis on the word steak. We left as soon as we could pay the bill and walked over to Bar Henry, newly opened in the ice district. There we were able to order 4 smaller dishes which were wonderful. They came within a few minutes of us arriving, were very appetizing The atmosphere was pleasant, nice music, and I am grateful to the wonderful staff there (thank you Jon) who made up for the sterile experience at Chop.

When we got to our table, the manager brought us over a new feature appetizer which was fantastic. Our server Amal was absolutely wonderful. Had a great dinner with my boys while at the hotel. Service and food was good, atmosphere was great and my boys were pretty sure I took them to a fancy place. And the booth was big enough to prevent fighting lol. Our server was A Kessler #78 (didnt catch her name) but she was attentive and friendly and didnt even run away after my sons 7th question. The only negative would be price, as a family its not somewhere well be going often but I knew that and it wasnt unexpected.

We often frequent this location and I have to say Amal is one of the best servers I ve ever come across. She is so warm and friendly, remembers everything about us and our orders. She has gone out of her way to ensure we have the best experience every time we come in. The food was actually raw. The steak was raw. The shrimp had very little to no seasoning, not even salt. And food came in late. Like waited for an hour to get just an raw steak and no seasoned food. Also how come every now and then waiters come and ask, is this your order?? I mean shouldnt you guys have some table number and know what should be served to whom. When we got our soup, the guy came was like thank god, who hoo I got the right table at my first go. This made us laugh for real. So so bad food and service.

Went in for a nice once a year family New Years eve dinner. Everything was great. We were amazed how the food was walked down the stairs by servers. My kid order wings, and sadly they were over salted, but she did not ordered them from the kid menu. The steak and lobster was average. The flat iron steak was awesome. Our server was very friendly and patient. We would of come back for breakfast if it was more afforable... but it is a classy steakhouse.

We were there on New years Eve. Easy to find a seat. Server was great but it seemed like she was on her own. So it took a couple minutes for her to come back. After 45 minutes we received the ordered steak bites. I didnt like it but thats my opinion. Overall good experience but could be better
