I ve been a regular customer for a while and have always enjoyed the variety of dishes here, but today s experience left me really disappointed. I ordered few items from the menu including the spicy nuggets, expecting a nice kick of heat, but instead, they were incredibly sweet. It felt like I was eating dessert rather than something spicy. I ended up having to throw them out because they didn t meet my expectations at all. I m usually a big fan of this place, but this new item really missed the mark for me.

I want to give 5*. I was there Sat, June 15 2024 for the buffet. A coworker booked a table for 5 for a buffet. I arrived early and paid our entire bill (minus the reservation fee by debit plus tip - $119) before he and his family arrived. My partner and I left before he and his family did, and I thought had established with the hostess that the tab was indeed paid. My fault for assuming that paying her before seating, smiling and nodding upon leaving after getting a thumbs up, was ok youre all set to go. My coworker and his family were charged the same $93 (buffet minus res fee) that I had already paid! What was meant to be a celebratory dinner for my coworker and his family turned into an extremely frustrating and embarrassing incident for the both of us! Im extremely disappointed. I love Padmanadis, but now I feel I cannot expect accuracy or reliability in the service. The food, however, as always is amazing. EDIT: Raised to 3* overall, lowered service to 2*, then lowered to 1* again. Food and atmosphere are still amazing. Was not refunded in full, and the biz chose to keep the larger bill. No comped food or meals. Manager Wandy was curt and cold in their email back and even took potshots at me for leaving a Google Review. His wife Angela at the downtown location was rude and stonewalling to me, as well as patronizing. In order to get my coworkers money back, I had to take a day off work to shuttle back and forth between downtown and Southside locations to facilitate communication between the Padmanadis staff. 24h of efforts in, no money in hand. DO NOT pay in advance. DO NOT leave before your guests if you do pay in advance. Staff do not know their own process about who is allowed to pay buffet bills and who is not. I dont think I can even stomach their buffet anymore. I guess time to make seitan protein at home more often. Parking: Dont leave your doors unlocked and be prepared to walk.

Got outstanding service from Helvin and Maya (I believe that was her name.) We had an issue with a late night take out order from the Gateway Blvd. location and the two of them helped fix it despite how late in the evening it was.

Delicious vegen food at a good price with a warm atmosphere

Great food. Great atmosphere. Fabulous service. Had the Ginger Beef, and if I didnt know where it was from, Id swear it was real beef. They dont use dairy or nuts, so its great for people with allergies. The cheese cake was delicious as well. Soy based cheese with a mango sauce / drizzle on top with a few berries. The menu selection is huge as well. Definitely recommended.

I ve been to the monthly buffet twice - there s always an interesting selection of food but I find it is overly dominated by faux chicken. If you love fake meat and are prepared to gorge yourself into a vegan food coma, this would be your jam.

Oddly underwhelming food. This place has a great reputation, and the food was so strangely mediocre. Service and the rest was great. Im surprised!

After a decade of this being my FAVOURITE restaurant, one I go to 1-3 times a month, I have changed my rating down to 2 stars. It s really disappointing the downgrade in quality since the other two locations have opened, and the prices have gone up exponentially. You used to be able to get the curry chicken or ginger beef or something similar for I think it was $12? They are now $18-20. They don t come with a side of rice even which is crazy to me, but I never minded because it was SO FREAKING DELICIOUS. But the prices are getting out of hand. Again, I would tolerate the high prices, but the quality is stepping down. I was so dedicated to this place being delicious that even when the last 4-6 times were very lacklustre, I STILL went back because I told myself they were just having an off night. It s not though. The Deng Deng is not the same as it was a year ago; it used to be so sweet and sticky and flavourful and now is just nothing. The spicy potatoes weren t cooked all the way so they were still hard. The curry chicken was not as chewy as it used to be, it was softer, closer to tofu almost. The wontons in the wonton soup used to have sooooo much flavor and are now quite bland. It was the best soup in the world. I m so sad about it. One of the dishes at yesterday s buffet was just corn? I m confused about that. I can get corn anywhere. I come here for fake meat, elaborate vegetarian dishes with tons of flavor. So, I think I ve learned my lesson and will not be going back for a long while. I hope the quality can improve. The staff are WONDERFUL, the owner seems like a great person, but I think they re losing focus with having several locations.

Always great, were not even vegan but we love it! The buffet is amazing and you get to try so many new things! Cannot recommend enough.

Absolutely goated restaurant, literally never disappoints.

After youve gotten over the Ginger Beef, ask for the Indonesian items on the menu. Indonesia has multiple, well developed and distinct traditional cuisines, and this restaurant has developed well-executed, vegan versions of some of the best dishes.

I really cannot recommend Padmanadi enough! I have been eating here over 10 years and still come here regularly. Some of the best vegan food youll ever have, if not THE best, and definitely the best customer service. My partner and I have never had a bad experience and everything is always top notch. All the staff look so happy and the owner, Kasim, is always there visiting and working and is literally the nicest person Ive ever met. Stop in for a meal one day and ask them about all the amazing charity work they do and make sure to try their velvety chocolate mousse :) Padmanadi is a true Edmonton gem!

Came here a couple of years ago and loved it... then we went to the Calgary location and loved it... and so of course before leaving EDMONTON we had to go one last time... but it wasnt as great as the past 4 times. The soup was not delicious... we didnt finish it, the tofu balls were cold and didnt taste right. We got the spicy fish which was good. The service was interruptive. Clearly we were in the middle of a private conversation when the server took her time at the table scraping everything onto one plate and then stacking and restacking until she could carry everything off. There was no urgency to cleaning off the table, and it took forever for her to leave so that we could finish what we were saying. The food wasnt great this time, but I will go back to the other locations if I go back to Edmonton or Calgary. Vegetarian options: Everything is vegan

We love Padmanadi! We have been coming here frequently for the past six years. The staff and Kasim, the owner, are so hospitable and generous. The food is amazing! When friends and family come to town, this is the restaurant to take them to. Everyone raves about the food. We had an event here a couple weeks ago and Kasim was so easy to work with. We had a buffet for our guests - rice, noodles, shrimp, ginger beef, cauliflower bites, spicy green beans. It was so delicious! Our guests loved it! We love coming here and highly recommend everything on the menu!

Padmanadi is truly a hidden gem in Edmonton. As soon as you walk in, the atmosphere is bright, spacious, and serene with Oriental decor including a Buddha statue. The staff are exceptionally attentive, helpful, and welcoming. The menu features vegan twists on classic Asian dishes, with an emphasis on Indonesian cuisine. We ordered the satay chicken skewers, chicken curry, tom yum fish, spicy fried shrimp, and coconut rice. Every dish was a 10/10 and came in very generous portions (yay to leftovers!). The satay chicken skewers are a must - tender, flavorful, and doused in a tasty peanut sauce. The chicken curry is one of their best-sellers, and you must pair it with coconut rice to soak up all that delicious curry sauce. (Although their rice bowls are individual-sized, they can easily serve two.) I have been vegan for nearly five years and have sampled many vegan fish and seafood alternatives, but the tom yum fish at Padmanadi was the most realistic-looking and fishy-tasting one Ive ever tried! All the food came quickly, tasted very fresh and vibrant, and was beautifully presented. The prices are reasonable, ranging from 17-20$ per main dish. Phenomenal. Ive eaten their food twice and loved it both times. They have a great selection of dishes. Some of the meat dishes you can hardly tell theyre not meat. This is a great place to branch out or try something new. But they also do a great job with the basics, like Mongolian chicken and ginger beef. Vegetarian options: ITS ALL VEGETARIAN! My fav restaurant

This was my favorite restaurant for the last decade and one that I was always praising. Their food quality has diminished lately as their ma po tofu is watery and not as flavourful as it was years ago. It used to be the best ma po tofu in town and something that I ordered monthly. My main qualm with Padmanadi, though, is their ridiculous refund/cancelation policy. When you make a reservation for the buffet, you have to pay $5/person to do so. ~24 hours before your reservation, you get a request to confirm or cancel. Whats ridiculous, though, is that apparently Padmanadi has a 48 hour cancellation/refund policy, meaning there is zero chance of a refund in the event of you becoming extremely ill and unable to attend. This is a scam and perpetuates the poor public health practice of people going out when they are ill and infecting others. Very disappointing to say the least.

Never ate at a vegetarian restaurant until Padmanadi, friends ordered all the dishes and I could not believe how good everything was. I honestly would not have known there was no meat. The dishes meant to be like meat were amazing texture and flavour. I had not idea.

Menu is full of fun and interesting options. Tried the spring rolls and mushroom tofu dish. Both were amazing. Highly recommend!

Please listen to me carefully hear: this place has the best chocolate desserts in Edmonton. The chocolate mousse vs. chocolate lava cake with dark chocolate ice cream, is an actual Schrödingers cat level problem. Both exist and I do not know which will happen until the choice is made. The server said I can substitute the ice cream for the mousse. That doesnt help! Now its just Sophie Choice, but with dessert (which really isnt honoring the spirit of the movie). Could I just upgrade and have all three? Ice cream, mousse and lava cake? Sure, but thats too much. Each of them is too well balanced and leaves your chocolate tastebuds right on the edge of going numb from overuse. There is no answer... only madness. Chocolate Madness!! Also, they have the most amazing Asian food in the city... Pick anything, you cant go wrong.

The staff are really welcoming thank you. Never the leaning over your shoulders with the one question repeatedly of how the food it kind of service. Its also a feeling of safety knowing that its a restaurant that does not serve animal products, that is, if you are vegetarian, as in my case. I would highly recommend this restaurant even if you are not vegetarian, and believe me, you would not be disappointed.

Not particularly flavourful, excellent option if you have vegan friends

Their lunch portion is significant enough to have leftovers for dinner, too, if you are not a big eater. The food was always delicious; you can not wait to return to sample other dishes. Not only is it vegan, but it has many gluten-free options.

I was happy to see this place so busy. Im not a vegetarian, but I enjoyed every one of the 8 dishes and two appetizers I was able to try on our visit. The prices were reasonable. I highly recommend bringing a big group and eating family style here.

This is by far one of my favourite restaurants in Edmonton. The fact that I dont even miss the meat in the meals says something. The yellow curry is my favourite, but everything I have tried is fantastic. The people are so friendly and the service is quick. I also feel like the portions are great! I always leave with leftovers and a happy tummy.

Astonishingly good food - I expected it to be good but it was GREAT

Th only issue I have with Padmanadi is that in preparing their ginger beef I would like to see them use smaller bites of protein. The current pieces of ginger beef are unmanageable. The spicy chicken is the right size. The ginger beef needs to be cut into more manageable pieces.

We had our first date there, years later we had our engagement dinner there and now with the amazing year of 2024; we celebrated a very special Valentine s Day. We love going to Padmanadi. Went for the Lunar New Year buffet, which was a great way to try a variety of their delicious dishes. Neither my partner nor I are vegan/vegetarian, but I think Padmanadi has great food that will please anyones palate!

Amazing and fast food!

This is by far the best vegetarian / vegan food Ive ever had. Im far from being a vegan or a vegetarian but Padmanadi will satisfy even the hungriest carnivore. For Edmonton, this is one of my all time favourite restaurants. Ive eaten in & do take away as well. The take away is incredibly well done: they even line up the baby bok choy - very nicely handled. I do pick up most often & theyll text when your order is ready. Eating in is better but little is lost in the take away.

Absolutely amazing food!!! All of it is vegetarian (yipee!) and their soy-based meats are perfectly flavoured and textured to simulate real meat. I would especially like to recommend the lemon prawns - very good at simulating shrimp and satisfied my shrimp craving (I have been vegetarian for a year and a half, only thing I missed) The service we got was also incredibly friendly! :) I would 10/10 come here again! Dietary restrictions: Everything is vegetarian, however if you have any allergies, be aware the meat substitutes are soy-based and there are nut-based dishes on the menu.

Even if you re not vegan, you have to eat here. With most dishes, you d never be able to tell the difference, which is what friends said after we brought them here. They re meat eaters, and they loved it. The complexity of flavours of each of their sauces, curries and dishes are so complex, it s hard to pick favourites. But do order the ginger beef, and the curries mutton, staples for us. They also had THE best chocolate mouse I ve ever tasted. Not sure if that s seasonal or always on the menu, but definitely need to have dessert. UPDATE2023: They are back. Their taste has returned and i am once again a regular customer! For first time goers, this is a fantastic place. Great food! Good value! A definite go. My reason for only 4 star ratings are because of sudden drop in quality of service compared to 3-4 months ago. I came with family a week ago and was disappointed with low staff members resulting in spotty service. The meat pieces in food was also noticeably lower than before. I dont know if the store is losing money but these obvious cost cutting methods are not a good sign for the future of this store. I will try this place just once more two months from now(and will post review). If the service and food quality are still part of their cost cutting, that might be the very last visit as the future is looking bleak for this store.

I ate here yesterday and got the curry chicken, the green bean bowl and rice. The food was mostly good. The atmosphere was great as well. The service was overall decent. They don t offer alcohol. The food is a little over priced in my opinion but overall ok.

First time with my teens. Lots of amazing foods for everyone. Loved the staff and owner and how friendly and helpful they all were. New favourite place to eat out. Vegetarian options: It s my understanding the entire menu is vegan however we didn t notice as everything was amazing and we had no restrictions. Dietary restrictions: Super aware of gluten free preparations and handling if you need. Kid-friendliness: Staff were accommodating and helped the teens try new to them items. Wheelchair accessibility: Main floor, wide entrance and washrooms doors, spacious floor plan for turning.

We ve ordered from here probably 15-20 times and every time the meal is great. Today we order and the food tastes old, stale and off. To the point 3 of our 4 dishes are inedible. The Bakmi goreng smelled rancid. After calling the restaurant in an attempt to rectify the situation it was made quite apparent they didn t care as every concern was deflected. You ve lost a long time customer

I went to eat here with a friend and I was positively surprised. As a vegetarian I usually have limited choice, but the size of the menu was absolutely overwhelming. The food itself was delicious, and I didnt feel like I was missing out not eating meat. The staff was beyond helpful and the service quick. We even had a lovely quick chat with the owner! If I were a local I would definitely be eating at this place all the time! Vegetarian options: The entire menu is vegan, so there is plenty of choice! Dietary restrictions: We asked about nut allergies, and they had no problem accommodating, since they dont use nuts in cooking.

Everything about Padmanadi is awesome. Amazing vegan food, amazing service, and the most amazing space. I absolutely love the curry chicken, roti canai and ginger beef...among a lot of other dishes. Weekend brunch is always worth going to as well. The monthly buffets are amazingly priced at only $20 per person, very popular, and very busy with long lines at buffet table. Buffets are lots of fun, even if they are busy.

Can never go wrong with food choices. Long time patron of this restaurant since I moved to Edmonton, personally not a vegetarian but they make all their food very delicious. The restaurant I take my out of town family too. Highly recommend. Parking: Parking in back or out front, but depending if they are busy may have to park a block or two away.

Brunch or dinner the food here is fantastic, you need to have a reservation. Ginger beef is a favorite among groups that dont realize its vegetarian. This is a place where you can try anything on the menu and it will be good. The mutton for example is great and not something most would try. Service is always fantastic and even when its busy you will get your food quickly. One note is the acoustics are quite loud with a restraint full of people talking. Vegetarian options: The entire menu is vegetarian and quite a few options for vegan. Dietary restrictions: Being vegan there are lots of options for dairy free.

Food was fresh, plentiful, and tasty!

I am not a vegan. The food is amazing! You would never know you were not eating meat. Their sauces are out of this world. My only complaint is that there is not a restaurant on the north side.

We tried out this place yesterday and it was so amazing, it s one of the best meals I ve had in a restaurant in a long while! And the best London Fog latte too. Vegetarian options: The whole menu is vegan, so much goodness!

Overpriced, and management takes tips.

The owners/management take all the tips. They are not being fair towards their employees!

I have eaten at this location multiple times and have discovered that the owners do not give the servers their full tips, aswell as limited shifts to workers. This behavior is unprofessional as a business and reflects badly on the businesses image, I would recommend avoiding this place as they should not be allowed to neglect their workers in this manor, however if you decide to go be sure to give cash tips only and directly to your server.

Overpriced and subpar, don t waste your time. It s also a shame that tips were taken away from the employees. Management receives the tips from the hard working staff and ultimately that is not fair. Give your staff what they deserve!!! Tips are given based on the service given, its not meant to be free money for the company!!!

Food is so very mid at best, also management takes tips away from hardworking servers. Dont even try and respond with that copy and paste message from the other reviews we know youre lying and PR covering, definitely a scummy practice.

Solid vegan food

Good food/service when you are in restaurant. But last time I ordered their rice pudding dessert for delivery the coconut milk they used tasted expired and I couldn t even have more than 2 bites before I had to throw out BOTH portions because I knew I was going to get sick from it if I had any more. There was no option to say this on the app other than ( didn t like the taste ) which doesn t warrant a refund so I m leaving my opinion on here.

Spicy chicken and Jasmine rice is delicious, as are the spicy chicken strips and banana pancakes on the brunch menu. Update: I have been back so many times since my original review. Everyone I have brought to this restaurant, even if they arent vegetarian, has loved it. The veggie chicken is definitely the best of their vegetarian meats. Vegetarian options: Its a vegetarian restaurant, so youre options are literally the entire menu

I always dine at Padmanadis vegan restaurant, and its absolutely fantastic! The menu was diverse and creative, offering a wide range of plant-based dishes that were both delicious and nourishing. The presentation of the food was visually stunning, and the flavors were simply outstanding. The staff was knowledgeable and attentive, providing excellent recommendations. The eco-friendly atmosphere and commitment to sustainability were also impressive. A must-visit for vegans and non-vegans alike! They also have a buffet once a month, and 3 times in December, a definite must come to!!

This place is definitely on my top 3 favourite spots for being a vegetarian restaurant. It s amazing how close to the real thing these dishes are. Everything here is vegetarian and with some dishes its so hard to tell if its actual meat or not. My favourite dish is the chicken curry. 10/10 recommend coming to try here. 4 of us ordered (2 couples ) 1 couples order half of it came and was missing rice the other couple the rice came but no main dishes, we waited for 15 mins ,the waitress came and asked how everything was and we said we are still waiting for our meals and she acted like she had no idea ... not very impressed with the service at all.

The food is great. However the service tonight was absolutely horrendous. We ordered over 200$ worth of food between 4 people. The server brought out 2 of the 5 dishes. 10 minutes later asks how everything is. We inform her we are still waiting for over half the meal and she says oh whats missing? 3 more dishes as the rice sits there for 15 minutes getting cold. Really really bad service. Bring it all at once... And asking what we ordered? You took the order and there were only 3 other tables there too keep track of. For a 200 dollar bill Id like to eat all our food together. Pathetic

If there is anything more delicious than the corn cakes and curry chicken in Edmonton, I havent had it. Wonderful restaurant!!

Our go to place. Food speaks for itself hence we keep going back

We went for lunch and it was all fantastic! The food was so delicious. Everything was flavourful and fresh. Our favorite dishes: curry chicken (rich and creamy), nasi goreng (flavourful with a lovely sticky but not mushy texture), ginger beef (perfectly sweet without being saccharine), mushroom deluxe (simple and perfectly stir fried), and Singapore noodles (excellent noodle texture with just a touch of heat). Our server was friendly and helpful. We are already planning our next visit there and hoping to try one of there special buffets!

Okay - I m not vegetarian, but my wife is vegan. Padmanadi has been a regular go to place for us because the food is delicious. The entire menu is vegetarian but there are many vegan items as well. Their fake meat options do not come across as fake meat options. I could swear that it is real chicken or shrimps. It is a fairly big place so seating isn t usually an issue, unless you go for one of their buffet nights which really draw the crowds - but the half hour wait for a table is worth it to get to sample many different dishes. Vegetarian options: Every option here is vegetarian. But all are delicious. Non-vegetarian/ vegan diners will enjoy this place. Dietary restrictions: I have a strange food allergy/sensitivity - carrots make my heart race and cause major dizziness and weakness and sometimes trigger heart flutter. As carrots are a fundamental ingredient in many vegetarian dishes, it seems odd to go to this place. But they are very careful in ensuring I get no carrots and warning me of possible cross contamination. I have had no problems. Thanks Padmanadi.

The best plant-based restaurant in Alberta, dare I say the world. No one makes flavourful vegan food like Padmanadi. Food is always consistent, ambience is always relaxed and welcoming. Family favourite is the toon eggplant and their ginger beef is the best, even better than the real thing. Also save room for their cheesecake! Deliscious!

This place is one of my favorite restaurants in Edmonton. We come here quiet often. Love the food.

Best veg in town 11/10

The service and atmosphere were good. But food was quite a let down unfortunately. One thing is that it was quite expensive for the food that we got. Very sad because I had high expectations from reading other comments about the flavour of the food. But we found every dish to be quite bland and catered towards western palates. Dishes that were supposed to be spicy did not have a hint of spicy-ness. It s a shame because the restaurant interior is lovely. I d recommend this place to those who don t like too much spice/ strong flavours.

Worth the hype

I came here unplanned but this is one of the best places I have ever been to. Especially me being a big meat lover and I was impressed with the vegan food here. I was in the buffet and all the selections were excellent.
