Went there as a party of three. The food was good and large portions. Fresh smoothies, not from powder. One of us was a vegetarian. No soups were vegetarian (all were based on chicken broth), the owner took care to cook a vegetarian noodle soup specifically for our friend, outside of the menu options. Our friend said that was delicious.
It was Chinatown dining week and I wanted to support the participating restaurants. Xu Hue had 3 different choices for $20. that looked promising. The owner is friendly and the restaurant is cozy with an impressive fish tank of beautiful fish. Unfortunately we found the rare beef pho was so bland and had no pho bone flavor. The vegetable spring rolls were also lacking flavour and the dipping sauce just tasted like water with a dash of fish sauce, vinegar and sugar. The steamed pork and shrimp dumplings were very chewy but again the filling lacked flavor which is too bad because not many vietnamese restaurant make these dumplings. The rare beef salad was the only dish that was seasoned. We were quite disappointed with the meal and most likely will not return.
I had an exceptional experience at Xu Hue recently. The tapioca dumplings and beef salad were rich in authentic flavors, and despite the banh canh soup being lighter, it still provided a delightful experience. This restaurant's dedication to authenticity and delicious flavors is undoubtedly a cornerstone of the Chinatown food scene.
Tasty vietnamese food! Came here to try the chinatown dining week specials and the owner said that he will permanently have them on the menu. Highly recommend. Support local!
Very good meal before catching an Oilers game at Roger's Place. We wach had the special which was pho with spring rolls and shrimp dumplings for $20. The food was great and the owner was very friendly. We had a good chat. He even brought us plates, forks, and a knife so we could serve the birthday cake we brought with us. We'll be back again.
This place is amazing!! Been coming here for years. Hands down best Pan fried rice cake ( bot chien) in town. Bot chien (pan fried rice cake and egg) just slaps here. So crispy and the sauce that it comes with is an excellent balance of sweet n savory. The banh xeo (rice crepe) also best in town. So crispy and satisfying. Tapioca dumplings were super plump and nice soft chewy texture. I don't have pictures of it because we demolished it too fast. Bun bo hue is tasty and spicy (can choose spice level). Spicy clam noodle ( bun hen) is the best in the city as well. The clams they use are so juicy and flavourful. The shrimp paste they use is so pungent and full of unami. Owner also very nice. Will never hesitate to come here if in the area.
My very first time here because my cousin has recommended this restaurant alot. We got Bun Bo Hue, Tam Ky Rice and the Duck Salad. They were really good and I'm really amazed with the spicy-ginger fish sauce here. Also we ordered the Soursop Smoothies, it was really fresh and not too sweet. The customer service is wonderful, the owner and his wife are friendly and welcoming to everyone.
This place is a total hidden gem!! Family owned restaurant being around for many years. Owner couple are very friendly and love to telling you their stories. Food was always good. Been there for many times every month. BBH is a must! Raw beef salad with lime pepper sauce is my favourite dish there. The best in the city! I would order one and get one to go. Yes! It is that GOOD!!
Today, we had the pleasure of dining at Xu Hue, a hidden gem nestled in Chinatown at 10548 97 Street. My daughter, home from Portland, OR for Christmas break, had one thing on her mind a truly satisfying bowl of Bún bò Hu . Xu Hue did not disappoint. We started with an array of appetizers: shrimp and pork salad rolls, shrimp and pork tapioca dumplings, and a refreshing rare beef salad. But the star of the show was undoubtedly their famous Bún bò Hu . As soon as it arrived, the enticing aroma filled the air, and we couldn t wait to dig in. Every dish was bursting with flavor, and we didn t leave a single bite behind. The owner s warm hospitality made the experience even better. After trying so many places in search of the perfect Bún bò Hu , we can confidently say we ve found it at Xu Hue. We re already planning our next visit to explore more of their menu. On our list? The Mango Salad (Goi Xoai), Bún H n (Spicy Clams), Pan-Fried Rice Cake with Eggs (B t Chiên), and the Pan-Fried Crêpe (Bánh Xèo). The owner also highly recommended their Duck Salad (Goi Vit), which is a crowd favorite. We can t wait to return and savor more of what Xu Hue has to offer!
Good food and excellent portion sizes. We had the tapioca dumplings, bamboo shoot noodle with duck salad, and 3 color vermicelli (meat with metal leaves, meat without leaves, and spring roll). Thanks! Parking: Plenty of parkings in the evening when you come after 7 pm.
The mango salad and fried rice cake are to die for.
Great atmosphere, huge portions, good prices and fantastic service. Vermicelli was some of the best Ive had and the peanut sauce for the salad rolls was SO good. Highly reccomend. Kid-friendliness: Family run and operated
Very delicious and the owners are nice. Thank you!!! Highly recommend
Best Vietnamese food in the city.
Stopped in here for a quick lunch. Super personable service and great food. The value for the money was there as well. Steak vermicelli was really good and fresh and the spring rolls were great!
Love this place so much. Very cozy little spot. Went here for the first time when the hot pot next door was way too busy and was pleasantly surprised. Still hoping to try some of their more speciality bowls like the duck pho I ve heard about!
I like its diverse menu. Many options to choose from. However, Bun Mam would be better if they make it in a more authentic way. This is originally a very tasty dish, but they just mix up all toppings for other dish to make this soup. Except the broth tastes a bit like Bun Mam, other toppings are nothing like for Bun Mam. They should change its name to not confuse diner.
This place was very busy at lunch. First time there and will return. Food was excellent, service was great considering how busy they were, and the owner was very friendly. We had the Dining Week Special with dumplings, spring rolls and Pho. All dishes arrived hot and very full of unique flavors.
Awesome, authentic Vietnam restaurant. Family run with dad serving food, wife cooking, daughter making dumplings. Hand made Tapico dumplings stuffed with pork and shrimp are very amazing and different textured from the chinese ones. Fresh and hot spring rolls and Pho. My picky vietnamese family was full and very impressed. Cool aquarium with lots of big koi fish. Nice bathrooms.
Uncle is dope, beef so rare it still moo
Owner and food was lovely
I have often had Vietnamese food but this place introduced me to some wonderful new dishes! On the recommendation of some of the other reviews here I tried the deep fried rice cakes on egg and the duck salad with noodle soup. Both dishes were scrumptious! The super crisp and crunchy rice cakes paired well with the silky egg underneath and the sweet and slightly salty sauce (I added a little hot sauce too). The duck and cabbage came with a sweet lemongrass sauce that was really nice. Ill definitely be back!
Food was too good we inhaled everything before we could take pictures of it all!!! Highly recommend this place. Amazing food and lovely owners! They have an amazing and affordable combo for $20! Will be coming back soon!
Good place, slightly dry beef on the dish I tried but good sauce
Underrated Vietnamese restaurant Recommend the pancake and dumplings Food : 5/5
Food is absolutely amazing and authentic tasting, came out really fast and had a-lot on the plate they took really good care of us even when we came close to closing, they treated us like we were family they didn t rush us or under cooked the food they made it perfect. Highly recommended marinated cube beef with fried rice. 110% the best place I ve been to for Vietnamese food.
They are the kindest service and most delicious food. Many thanks!
Bun bo hue and shrimp mango salad are to die for. BBH looks plain on the outside. But amazing on the inside. Thick cuts of different meats. Flavourful broth thats boiled for 6 hours. The owners run the place. Dont expect typical western service, but a warm vietnamese restaurant service. Parking: Some free parking at the back.
One of the best viet spots in the city Parking: Lots of it Kid-friendliness: The guy is really nice and the food is out of this world.
Authantic middle Vietnamese food. The owner is really friendly and helpful. Highly recommend the pan fried rice cake with egg, duck salad and Bon Bo Hue. Food : 5/5
Friendly, clean, fast service, and good value food.
Horrible service , pho was definitely not fresh my broth was milky from the over cooked noodles , never had pho the green onions were over cooked before one star for having the good sriracha
Food taste one week OLDE , Washrooms never cleaned, overpriced.
Food is amazing, and the owners are so friendly! Definitely a go-to for work lunches! My go to orders are the banh xeo and the shrimp mango salad! Absolutely delicious.
We got the Rare Beef Salad and it was delicious! Crunchy peanuts, sweet pickled onions and rare beef slices. I be back to try more of the menu.
Good value and very delicious
Chinatown is a sketchy place to go now but this place is definitely a gem!! Not exactly a hole in the wall but also nothing fancy looking about this place. What stands out though is their incredible line up of authentic Vietnamese foods. I grew up eating Vietnamese food and there are many dishes that you cant find and also taste amazing. Must get their banh bot luc (pork and shrimp tapioca dumplings), Bun Bo Hue, Bun Hen (small clams noodles) and their Bamboo soup with duck salad!!
Best spring rolls so crispy and delicious, love stopping by for a quick lunch time order. I always call ahead and they have the best customer service!
Great food. Rare beef salad and tapioca dumplings were delicious.
My friend got food poisoning and lost 10lbs in one day eating thier pho. I would never recommend!!!!
Best vermicelli in downtown Edmonton. Edit: Also best wonton soup!
Wide selection in menu, many specialty dishes you wouldnt find elsewhere. So far we have been pleased with every item we tried. Also makes for great takeout because owners time preparing food to pick up time....so its nice and hot/fresh!! They care so much about their food, mom and pop shop worth supporting
Best pho sate Ive had in the city
Lots of items on the menu, so much to choose from. Very impressive.
Food was good. Had duck salad, pho dac biet and tapioca dumplings. Everything was flavorful. The only thing that bothered us the whole time we were there the waiter/owner (he was by himself) was sort of coughing the whole time. Not an actual cough but seemed like something was stuck in his throat and hed cough once but it would happen continuously. He didnt wear a mask and didnt try to cover so throughout our whole lunch all we heard was his cough.
Epic
Ordered a spring roll and pork vermicelli bowl on Uber Eats and was so disappointed AND disgusted. There were no cucumbers and only a Pinch of shredded carrots. The lettuce was also very lazily chopped, the pieces were big and chunky. To top it off I found a blue rubber band in my food. A waste of money.
Best peanut sauce and salad rolls I ve tasted in a long time. Also had the beef flank and beef fillet pho. Absolutely delicious. Would 10/10 recommend to anyone who has a craving for pho.
No complaints.
Love bun bo Hue soup and the rice. Those are my favourite.
Scam Go here for the seafood rice noodle dish and get 4 small shrimp and 1 piece squid cut in half and least possible rice noodle that filled thin layer inside a big plate for 17.80$ Not to forget 5 small broccoli pieces and 3 pieces of carrots . Unreal cheap people We don t eat pork added pork sausage on top of seafood dish . Scam artist
Second time here, their pho is good as always, very authentic, flavourful broth and fresh ingredients, what more can I ask for in a bowl of pho!
I love this place , the food tase 100% Vietnamese . The best vietnamese restaurant in Edmonton . The place must try
Good
Ok food
Favourite Vietnamese restaurant! Enjoyed that I could order ahead and pick up.
The owner was so helpful for my vegetarian diet and i loved my food! Cant wait to eat there in person!
Bun Bo Hue is a must for spicy soup lovers!
Awesome food, great staff and overall fantastic experience :)
The Bun Hen is good. Try it.
Excellent authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Edmonton. Price is decent, good portion and the food is tasty. Dont judge the location, the food speaks for itself. If you enjoy an authentic taste, not fusion taste, give this place a try. Im Vietnamese and of course Im so picky when talking about Vietnamese food. This place is one my favorite stop place for Viet food. My five stars will based on food taste, food price and portion. I dont say its is the best or #1 but its one of excellent one in Edmonton.
You will receive a very warm welcome from the owner and crew as you open the door. Lots of choices of food. Very accessible. You can park in front or at the back of the restaurant. Vietnamese food served is so awesome.
I ordered through a delivery app. They didnt include a bowl for the soup. They also dont include hoisin or Sriracha, and charge you $1.75 each of you want them.
Very welcoming staff and great food!
Good spring rolls and Pho special. Noodles are cooked perfectly, they have a distinct chewiness to it!
A big part of the reason I love this place is because the owner is so friendly and welcoming! Complimentary green tea is on the table soon after you sit down. The vermicelli bowls are excellent, and my brother says they taste just like in Vietnam. Prices are great. By far my favourite Vietnamese restaurant in Edmonton!
Delicious food and every meal is freshly prepared.
Ordered bánh xèo and bún ch gà with a couple ice coffees. The bún had bland broth, didn t come with cabbage, and no sriracha or hoisin was given. The banh xeo was not authentic. The fish cake and the coffees were good. If this is your neighborhood favourite, consider trying another place to compare.
Filthy...
Huge portions, excellent flavor. Had to send pics to my friends. Ill be ordering again!
Yes . Very good . Vietnamese food.
I ended up having lunch here today only because the Golden Bird next door was closed. Too bad, because Xu Hue shouldve been closed. I had Spicy pho that tasted like dirty dish water with hot sauce. The meat had an unpleasant smell to it. The spring rolls were good only because they were pre made from a supplier. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Stay away!!!
Literally Boiled dishwater that had a smell that I cannot even describe also had bits of plastic in the fish literally gagging
Do not go here the spicy hue has no flavour, I think she got the pho water from beumaris lake
Love the food here! They have some really great authentic día he s that you can t usually find at most Vietnamese restaurants in Edmonton. Highly recommend this place! My food always comes out fast too:)
Authentic. Bomb. Cheap.
Ive dined in once, and ordered pick up twice. Incredible food each time. Their shrimp and pork tapioca dumplings are the best Ive found in the city. I highly recommend their bun rieu and any of the regular pho, too. Never any issues with my orders - and pick up has always been ready at the scheduled time.
Delivery order. 5 dishes. Food is OK. Tapioca dumplings quite good. Ordered peanut sauce with one dish, and received hoisin. In another I ordered extra tendon and received sliced roast beef. Soup broths ok but seemed like there was a lot of msg in them. Not sure if we will try it again or not.
Excellent phó and salad rolls! Worth a sit.
Amazing
Have been coming here for years, and I always enjoy it.. came with 6 friends and family today, great time, great food and well priced
bun bo hue so delicious
Excellent pho broth among the top in the city.
One of my favorite vietnamese restaurants in Edmonton for duck.
Best place to get Bahn Bot Chien..... totally recommend this dish.
Fantastic variety of authentic Vietnamese cuisine! Would recommend!
Best Vietnamese restaurant in Edmonton that I have tried so far. I wont say it is completely 100% but the chef had tried her best. Strongly recommend to try the all appetizers and duck congee. Affordable price, friendly staffs
please learn english.i ordered fried rice instead they gave me steamed rice...
Hidden gem for pho. Amazing broth, great service, generous portion size, and least expensive pho I know for The Edmonton area.
Delicious, authentic Vietnamese food at a reasonable price.
Excellent owner is humble
I dont know what happened to this restaurant, but we ordered the beef Sate soup and it was disgusting. Supposedly was a large bowl. The broth was yellow! Whats with that? Obviously from powdered cheap chicken broth and not spicy in the least. It was no wonder we were the only customers there. Complete garbage. Never again.
I ordered the bun bo hue and it was okay. Not the taste I expected but my viet friend said it was close to the traditional one. Unlike other restaurants in china town where they only accept cash, they take credit cards also, which I found it very convenient!
Best place in China town
Unpretentious and delicious. My favourite is the beef wrapped in betel leaf. Definitely one of the better Vietnamese restaurants in Edmonton!
Best viet IN TOWN! Love these guys!
The food is tasty but if you have an allergy with MSG, this place is not recommend for you, cause they put a lot of MSG in there soups
The Vietnamese coffee they serve is really nice, and the food is also great. Had a good experience eating here.
if i ever need to get some hot noodle soup in downtown, this is my place 100% and Ive been to all the good ones like codo hue, pho pastier, trang etc. this place has a few unique viet dishes you wont find anywhere else and is worth a try, try the Bun Rieu which is a tomato/crab/shrimp base soup which i havent seen anywhere else in Edmonton yet and what i usually get here and it is delicious. owner is super friendly to.
Very good. I always get their bot chien and rare beef plate with duck soup.
Great food! Reasonable prices. Great service!!
Delicious chicken pho and the owners are so friendly.
Tiep dai an can and have fun...or boat an thu...
Good soup good apps
On a cold cold evening I was craving pho and this place delivered! We were served a nice hot pot of tea and decided to start off with pork dumplings - wish we got something fried, the texture was really off... needless to say we didn t finish them. I wouldn t dock the rating for this as it s something I m sure we aren t accustomed to. We also ordered the chicken pho and a grilled chicken with steamed rice dish. The broth was hearty and the grilled chicken was tender, cooked perfectly! Well come back here again, just not for the pork dumplings
I have been here for few years. Its always great and delicious.
good soup , good deep fried won ton , i know Lee the owner and hes a good guy also ..the soup is very good for spruce grove ..
Great place for pho. The owners takes the time to get to know you while youre there.Great selection of other dishes besides pho too.
Really surprised with the rave reviews. Service was good and they seemed to have a few repeat customers that they were conversing with which is a good sign. The food just wasnt that good. At best it was passable but Ive definitely had better bun mang goi vit in town. This had a really sweet dressing and the sauce it came with was relatively bland. Definitely had better bun bo hue in town and the banh xeo came with mediocre nuoc mam, lettuce and no additional herbs. That was a real disappointment because Im looking for a good banh xeo place here. Ended up using a couple leaves and a few bean sprouts that we got with the noodle soups to supplement the flavour but there wasnt enough. When I went through the menu before eating I was hyped because it has a ton of unique dishes Ive had in Vietnam that arent easily found in edmonton so Ill come back to see if I missed anything. Unfortunately Im not as excited to return as I was before I started eating.
My favorite place for pho in Edmonton hands down. The broth is flavorful and they have all the best ingredients. The spring rolls are great and 7 for $7 and the people are always smiling. Get sum Xu Hue FOO!
Good food, good staff.
Excellent food and hospitality.
Dishes were delicious and the staffs were very friendly. I will come back and try to eat other dishes.
Best pho and the serving was so nice...
Tastes are not consistent, probably due to different main chiefs. However the food is pretty good. Price is a bit higher than average. For Vietnamese food I recommend the Pasteur restaurant close to Kingsway.
Good food fair prices
The Bun Bo Hue was decent. I am used to the broth being thicker and spicier (Nothing a few scoops of their chili oil couldnt fix). The ice coffee was pretty great too! The server, whom I suspect is the owner, was nice and helped my girlfriend make a good choice on the menu.
Was planning to go to a nearby restaurant for our favorite vermicelli bowls, but found them on vacation. Had a local recommend Xu Hue and we may have found a new favorite! Green onion cakes are fantastic, great springrolls and some of the best vermicelli bowls weve had in the city
Went there for lunch and the food was great and very reasonably priced. Of special note: a man of obviously less fortunate circumstances came in and asked my friend if he could have her takeout container (which she gave him); a staff member called out Hey! and was coming toward him so he started to leave - presumably thinking he was going to get kicked out - but she had just come over to give him a bottle of cold water which was especially good because it was 33 degrees outside. Very impressed with both the food and the kindness of the staff. Will definitely return.
Of all the Vietnamese rice noodles Ive ever eaten, it had the most meat and was delicious. However, I was disappointed that the soup was a bit salty. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was a bit exotic as it was like a local restaurant in Vietnam. ^ ^ Among the Vietnamese rice noodles I ate, I had the most meat and it was delicious. But, I was sorry that It was salty. The atmosphere in the restaurant was a little bit exotic because it was like a local restaurant in Vietnam. ^ B ^
It was our first time to Xu Hue, located in the heart of Chinatown. We heard a lot of good things about this Vietnamese restaurant. There are many dishes that are not found at your typical pho restaurant. There are some very authentic items that are only found in Vietnamese homes. We ordered bot chien (fried rice cake with egg), bang xeo (Vietnamese crepe), pho, chao vit (duck congee) and chao vit thanh do (duck salad). The bot chien, chao vit and chao vit thanh do was unbelievable! I havent had it years and couldnt believe it was available again in Edmonton. If you are tired of pho and are looking for something different with Vietnamese cuisine, definitely give Xu Hue a try.
Well flavored vermicelli and rice dishes, and an excellent cold coffee in a laid back atmosphere for a weekend lunch
Very good Bun Bo Hue, and fast service.
Mmm mmm mmmmmmm delicious and great service
We just started coming here about a month or two ago when we were looking for some good bot chien - and can we tell you?! Not only did we find some fantastic tasting bot chien (crispy, sweet, salty), but about 10 different visits later, weve never had a bad item on the menu and we ordered something different every time. The items my wife and I tried are: -bot chien - pan fried rice cakes with eggs -banh bot loc - pork and shrimp tapioca dumplings -pho bo sate - sate beef noodle soup -com chien bo luc lac - marinated beef cubed fried rice -com bo luc lac - marinated beef cubed steamed rice -banh canh do bien - seafood noodle soup -banh canh gio heo - pig knuckle noodle soup -bun hen - small clam noodles -pho bo kho - beef stew noodle soup -hu tieu xao do bien - seafood fried rice noodles -hu tieu do bien - seafood rice noodle soup A special shout out to Xu Hue for also serving a plethora and variety of Vietnamese dishes that may be hard to find as well. We cant wait to try more and would definitely recommend coming here! The cherry on top? The owners are very nice and accommodating :)
Best pho and noodle soups in the city. The soups are flavorful and quality is consistently good. This place has more variety than other pho restaurants and the flavours are authenticly Vietnamese. This is my go to noodle restaurant.
the best !!
Nice Viet food
Coming from a Vietnamese person myself, this is by far my favourite Vietnamese restaurant in the city. The dishes are truly authentic & they offer and serve more than just your average pho/rice/noodle dishes. If you are adventurous, I would recommend their duck/bamboo soup (bun mang bit) , bot chien (deep fried egg/flour cakes) & banh loc (glutinous shrimp/pork dumplings) . Decor is dated - but what you would expect in any older Vietnamese restaurant. Service is good and staff are always friendly.
I went here recently with a friend and ordered the Bun Rieu noodle soup. I found a piece of metal in my soup and addressed this to the staff and advised how dangerous and unhygienic this would have been if I had swallowed it. They failed to acknowledge my concern and offered me a toonie in return. I will not be back here as it is unsafe and unsanitary.
Great value. Friendly services. Soup base is best in China town, much much less MSG. One can taste the sweetness in the soup but not the saltines and bitterness with MSG. Oh, there are two huge fish tanks with many fishes for decoration.
Owner was friendly and eager to greet you. Food was great. Menu is large.
Surprisingly cheap and good food!
Nice little place for noodle bowls or soup.
Best pork chop and rice in Edmonton
Fresh everything! Great food and great service.
Just amazing! The pho here is fantastic, along with the rare beef salad and the pork tapioca dumplings! A true unique experience of the taste buds. The owners are super friendly and you can feel the family owned and operated establishment vibe.
Good portion size, broth is flavorful (on the sweeter side) and doesnt leave you thirsty.
Very friendly. Chatted for a bit in between having bun bo hue. Tasted good.
I frequent Xu Hue often... usually once every weekend. The owner is very friendly and proud of his food! He makes 4 or 5 soup bases daily and different types of noodles dependent on the dish you order. He always makes sure they taste great. Most vietnamese restaurants in Edmonton will use the one soup base and just add some sort of chili oil in there. However, the owner has a seafood stock base, beef stock base, chicken stock base, and the one he uses for a bun bo hue... not sure what it is but it has some herbed flavours as well. Owner is also very accommodating and lets me substitute or add things into dishes often! While im not a big fan of the beef pho, he makes an excellent bun bo hue, seafood noodle soup, chicken pho, and clam noodle soup. Theres also a variety of appetizers I have not seen elsewhere, including a Lotus root salad, duck salad, and traditional vietnamese glutinous rice dumplings. Highly recommended!
