We definitely won t be back. How so many people give this place 5 stars, is beyond me.

Edit: I havent been in a long time but I drove from hamilton for this place. The food was so good and the service was A1! The man that worked there told me it has been open for 78 years!! Thats saying something! Definitely a hidden gem! Do yourself a favor and try them out! Enjoy! I love the crispy ginger beef!!! Food is Amazing! Love the ambiance!!! Ive been here with large groups and in a pair. Service is always on point. I definitely recommend.

Very delicious Chinese food ! I will get from there again and again !

Yuk! This is not Chinese food. No flavour, the snow peas were mushy or rotten. The general tao chicken was mostly batter and inedible morsel of meat. The noodles were flavourless! Waste of time, waste of money, waste of appetite.

We had a ChickenBall-o-Palooza, where we blind taste tested 4 different chicken balls from around Etobicoke. Hong Kong Gardens chicken balls won out by a mile. Ball and sauce. Just the opinions of 6 adults who love chicken balls.

Restaurant itself is getting a bit tired, but you can see the dining room was quite something in its day. The people who run it are friendly and certainly try to keep take-out orders moving quickly when it s busy. Loyal customer following in the area. The food is good and it s priced reasonably.

My husband went there as a child with his dad We were going down memory lane.... And were presently surprised the food was spectacular ! Not only was it the tastiest wings /Cantonese chow main /almond suegye/honey garlic spare ribs/ and even the chicken fried rice is the best we have had anywhere!! The family loved the atmosphere. And the service was attentive! A true gem. We have gone back now weekly as our own family tradition! Cheers!

I ve ordered from here for a very long time and today I was absolutely disgusted with every dish I ordered. The rice was overcooked and very dry chicken chow main was no flavour tasted like dirt. Chick balls had black on them, as spare ribs were nothing but grizzle Cantonese chow mein was no flavour either. Egg rolls looked burnt but dripping wihh grease. I called them to say how disappointed we all were and all he could say was baseball started and it s very busy. What the hell does that have to do with the quality of their food. Then this man got very rude and just hung up on me. I ll NEVER order here again. I didn t wanna give them 1 start but had to. So if you wanna spend $100.00 dollars to throw in the garbage this is the place. Or if you wanna be spoken to very rude. Call these people to tell them how unhappy you are. This is a Good Friday and I m so upset. 0/10. Never again. Never.

Ordered the special combo #1 which was supposed to come with chicken balls, chicken fried rice and chicken chow mein. The chicken balls and chicken fried rice were okay (not great). The chicken chow mein had no noodles! It was just watery bean sprouts and chicken with a couple of chow mein crackers on top. I will unfortunately not be ordering from here again. The dining room looks gorgeous, but it was completely empty.

grew up in the neighborhood. The best soo guy in Ontario and we have lived all over the GTA, Orillia, Collingwood, KW, Dundas and Thunder Bay. Amazing Cantonese Chow Mein as well. Everywhere we go it has been our benchmark for Chinese food and all have been found flavor wanting. I stand tall for you Hong Kong Gardens and salute you! Oh Captain My Captain!

Amazing food and service!! Everything we ordered was delicious! Our favorite was the general Tao chicken, which had the perfect red sauce with the right amount of heat. The crispy ginger beef, pad Thai and rice were also really good.

We ordered here on Saturday to celebrate Lunar New Year - only for the family to all wake up the next day with food poisoning. Hong Kong Gardens... you took a day away from me that Ill never get back.

Hong Kong Gardens is a crowd pleaser for everyone. Its exactly what you think of when feeling like Chinese food. Its a great restaurant for a large group of people. Portions sizes are meant to be shared. The prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend the lemon chicken, spicy peanut chicken, chicken balls, pork fried rice, szechuan noodles, and almond vegetable dish. Everything is delicious and the service is quick. The music played in the dining room is surprisingly great.

Weve been going to Hong Kong Gardens for many years. While there was a short stretch about 5 years back when the food quality went down a bit, ever since theyve been consistently top notch. Fresh food and huge portions. While weve never had a dish we didnt like, we especially love their Chicken Balls, Crispy Ginger Beef, Moo Shu BBQ Pork, and Shanghai BBQ Pork and Shrimp Noodles. Their Vegetable Fried rice is also part of every order we make. We always do pick-up (and sometimes we have had to wait even after getting there when told it would be ready) but it is always hot and fresh when we receive the order. It can sometimes (especially weekends be very busy with orders) so the wait time for pick up goes up (but they will tell you how long they think it will be). No complaints.

Last year I gave this place a great review here but today I ordered food and it was not good at all. The broccoli should have been firm and bright green it was not as you can see. I even went out of my way to ask if the broccoli was fresh.....IT WAS NOT!!! Picture below. I was very surprised the food is usually much much better. On top of that the delivery service was horrible. The driver was very very rude, an angry because I didnt answer the door immediately when he knocked suggesting that I never order from them again, which I very well may not!!!

Sadly, something is amiss. On a Friday night, great quality and flavour we were used to just wasnt there. Did the OG chef call in sick? We threw out all the leftovers...disappointing!

1st time order:Chicken fried rice had a funny taste-ineatable 2nd time order: in general 5 dishes ordered were disappointing. Honey garlic dip was only syrup, fried rice dishes were tasteless and the vegetable dishes were basically slop. Ended up throwing out the entire order. Food

Huge beautiful dining area is always empty, sad:( Basic seasonings and spices like ginger, garlic and soy are absent despite highest prices in the area. Cook seems to have no experience in Chinese food. Sorry to say, but either have to change, or sell the business

Something is off about this place, do you know anyone who actually eats here ? Is this a front for a second business? I have been here a few times over the past 10 years and everytime it has maintained to be weirdest atmosphere in any restaurant Ive ever been in. This restaurant has been in this area for years. Truely a interesting establishment.

A staple in the neighborhood! Its great old school Canadian Chinese food. Id give it 5 stars but its not high end...nor should it be. Its perfect the way it is.

Very disappointed to write this review! We have been ordering from Hong Kong Garden (with more regularity than I d like to admit) since 2019, when our regular place closed for renovations and never re-opened. Tonight we ordered again. Picked up the order and returned home (30 minute round trip). Missing from the order were the three egg rolls to be included with the combo plates. The missing egg rolls are not the problem, it was the way they chose to deal with it. This is the second time an item was missing. The first time was all of the chicken balls from our Christmas Eve 2020 order. For that, I returned to the store a day or so later, as I was told they were to busy to deliver the missing item. I called to let them know the egg rolls were missing. I would have been more than happy to just get the three egg rolls with our next order, but nope. I was told he would need to check with the kitchen. He came back and told me I didn t order egg rolls. I said the egg rolls are included with the three combos plate. Yes, that s true, let me check. No, the kitchen says they put them in the bag. Of course the kitchen is going to say they put them in the bag. I explained that order totalled $80ish dollars, why would I call to pretend we didn t receive three egg rolls worth what, less than $5? It just didn t make sense. He said he didn t know what to tell me, the kitchen said they put them in. So I m lying to you about egg rolls? No answer. I said we order from here all the time and if three egg rolls was worth not having our business anymore, so be it. He said ok bye. I said ok, bye. And that is the end of that!

My family and I have been ordering from Hong Kong Gardens for years and it never disappoints!! All of the dishes are delicious. Our favourites are the Cantonese chow mein, vegetable fried rice, spicy deep-fried tofu, and lemon chicken. The spring rolls and egg rolls are amazing as well. This place has been around for over 70 years and I hope its around for the next 70 :) Its that good.

Waiting more than 2hrs for three basic dishes is unacceptable. Delivery driver was rude, disrespectful and aggressive. The manager didnt bother to apologize. On my BOYCOTT list now, gave them too many chances over the years.

Great Chinese Canadian chow. Ordered the Crispy Ginger Beef, General Tao, Mixed Veg and Egg Rolls. Everything was excellent! Flavourful, hot, fresh, and colourful. Egg rolls were perfectly fried, the General Tao came with steamed broccoli, and the mixed vegetables were fresh, not frozen.

Love it , best Chinese food I ve had in a long time Chicken soup guy delicious nice thin breading tender chicken the lemon sauce is really good the breaded shrimps are to die for Cantonese chow mein and their combination plates are great if you don t want a whole bunch of some thing we don t order from anywhere else super fast and great prices

Hands down the best Chinese food in Etobicoke and Mississauga that I have found... I drive 30mins each way to pick up food from here, and Ive been going here for the last 30 yrs, cant beat it... : )

I know prices go up. But my usual order just went up over 30% Youll be losing my business. Another place on Scarlett Rd. only raised prices 10%.

Best Chinese food I ve ever tried

This place makes the best food. Especially my favourite, crispy ginger chicken. I could eat this everyday. The service is great and the place is very clean inside. 10/10 would recommend.

The go to Chinese food place in the Royal York/Bloor area. Great for quick and reliable Take-Out and also offer Dine-in as well. The Dine-in Décor is a bit dated, but the food is pretty amazing. They have been a local restaurant for several decades in The Kingsway / Bloor West neighborhood. Enjoy :-)

I stopped purchasing from this place about 25 years ago and recently placed an order for two. Really good food and happy I tried it out again.

Great Canadian Chinese style dishes!

I really like their food and affordable prices compared to other places. This place has been around since 1947 believe it or not. The Hong Kong Special Fried Rice is great. This is one of those classic Chinese restaurant taverns and is still well run today.

Fave Chinese food in the city ...soo guy is fire

This restaurant will take absolutely zero care if you mention that you have an allergy, and this has happened on more than one occasion. We sincerely regret giving them the extra chance. The delivery is always delayed by 1+ hr even in good condition and we are located a 10 minute drive away and the food often tastes reheated as opposed to fresh.

Maybe close to the worst Chinese I have ever had. Food had absolutely no taste. Hot sour soup was sweet, not sour. We will not order from here again. Was really hoping for better.

Beef and broccoli is the best

This place is disgusting! Let me tell you I ordered 3 combos today. Received complete bad attitude from the women who took my order. She had long braided grey hair with no net on her hair No personality what so ever. I took the food home and after opening up one of the meals, my daughter was presented with 3 strands of hair in her food . I called the establishment and was told the manager would call me back immediately. I was contacted by the manager and after telling her about my daughters finding in the food, there was no apology, and the manager rather then apologize she said oh no you are wrong, no one here has long hair . I was shocked as she didn t even apologize. I then let her know that I was calling to let her know as they should ensure safety standards are met when dealing with food. Only after I let her have it she then apologized saying her English is not good, what a cop out when you are in the wrong. Furthermore the food is really bad! Do yourself a favour and do not EAT there! A complete disgust and poor management skills ! Oh and once she was done she said she will have Adi the manager call. That s ok Adi I will make sure I share my experience with others. No need to call me back

A neighbourhood fixture. My family and I order takeout from HKG regularly and were never disappointed. Food is tasty, always fresh, packaged up nicely. Staff are kind and accommodating of substitutions etc. Its not fancy nor is it health food, nor is it intended to be. We get the Cantonese chow mein, chicken fried rice, lemon chicken...all excellent. Ignore the less-than-stellar reviews and try it out.

Have to give it five stars seeing this is the oldest Chinese and one of the oldest restaurants in Toronto. Opened in 1947 and it hasn t changed much inside and out. Chinese food is how you d remember it as a child. Remember going there as a child in the early 80 s and went back swearing they still had the same booster seat I sat in back then, lol. Though 99% of the people probably take out it s still how I remember chinese food should always be. Please do not change the nostalgia this place brings to the affluent neighbourhood it s situated in.

Weve been enjoying food from them for 50 years and have never been disappointed. Food is hot, fresh and delicious and portions are great, prices are great. What more could you ask for? Oh and its ready in 20 minutes!

The food was great but I ordered the special chow main. The description specifically says it comes with dry noodles but no dry noodles were to be seen. Ive ordered this before. I called the restaurant and they said they gave me a bag of those Chinese cracker noodles. That is not dry noodle. Will not be ordering from them. Im grateful that this place is not the only Chinese restaurant in my area.

The food was old ... hard dried out from the day before perhaps? I have previously visited this restaurant (prior to covid) and the food was always fresh. When business is not booming and restaurants dont want to suffer a loss ... some customers are going to get the old food. This time it was me . It was my Birthday Dinner and they ruined it.

Absolute bang for your buck. You can feed 10 hungry men with just $50. Would recommend the lo mein, straight fire.

Food was good but be warned that what they call chicken chow mein is actually chop suey. It comes in a lot of the family dinners which is a bit disappointing.

Lots of vegetables in every dish which I really enjoyed. Even the general tso comes with a little side of broccoli. The vegetables were fresh and not frozen or canned and had lots of variety. Not the standard celery and bok choy filler. Delivery came 30 minutes earlier than estimated on new years eve. Cant complain about that!

I think this is the best Canadian Chinese Restaurant in west Toronto. It has all of the old school dishes. The food is good and reasonably priced. I would recommend pick up and takeout. The dining room looks quite nice. Close to Royal York subway. Green P parking.

Straight out of the 60s. Get the takeout if you want real retro Chinese food with electric red and yellow sauce and chicken balls and fried rice. Exactly the way you remember. Eating in, however, is just a sad reminder if the ravages of time. And those bathrooms are a zombie slasher film waiting to happen, and are apparently built to 70% scale.

I had the dinner platter for 1 and it was so much good food. Its got a nice fancy vibe and the foods great and well priced. Theyre also open late which is awesome, very excited to come here drunk.

Giving 2 stars because the ambience was nice, and the server was very kind. The washrooms were dare I say....disgusting. we ordered breaded shrimp and egg rolls, and the shrimps were not even cleaned. Its also overpriced but so is everything in this area. Will not be returning.

Very unhappy with service I receive here, on a regular basis. Not sure why I keep going back but this is the last time. They offer discounts on pickups but for some reason I can never claim the discount. And on top of this, if you pay cash, they dont enter into the register which means they are cashing in on the HST!

Hong Kong Gardens is an older Kingsway landmark restaurant. Its been there for many, many years serving up great tasty portions of Canadian-style Chinese food, reasonably priced. The interior of the restaurant is traditional, and tired, but a warm place to eat, and chat with your friends.

If you want the latest and greatest restaurant that overcharges so that they can pay their chef, this is not the place. But if you want a place that makes sure that you will likely leave with food in takeout containers and a peaceful subdued atmosphere while you dine...this is the place.

The only reason they get one star is because the food was tasty. However, it arrived an hour and forty-five minutes after I ordered it. The delivery dude then tried to con a tip out of me by stating that even though the food was late, it was still hot. It wasnt. They claim that orders over $20 are delivered free. I ordered $39 worth of food (HST included) yet I was presented with a bill for $53. I guess I should have paid more attention but I was starving at that point. So they dinged me $14 for delivery. This used to be a great place to order Chinese food from. After tonights experience, Ill be looking for a new place

This is a hidden gem. I m glad I found this place so now I have a spot to go when I want authentic delicious Chinese food. The fried rice was on point, just the perfect amount of soy sauce. But their sizzling beef is ridiculously good. I m for sure coming back here again. The downfall is that the upstairs and back room are used as storage. Would be nice to have the option to sit upstairs.

Before going to Hong Kong gardens tavern and restaurant I searched for under reviews to see if it was a good place or not, and when I saw that some people were having trouble with the service but some saying the food was great I took my chance and went in. I ordered the best chinese food that I have ever eaten in a very long time. The service was fast the food came out fast and the place is clean. I will most definitely go back.

Terrible food. Very stale spicy ginger beef. Felt ill next morning. The place is almost always empty. Will avoid this place and any like it forever. I dont even want to know the state of the kitchen and lack of hygiene at this place.

Excellent food good price

Service was A1, food was even better. Portion sizes are good, environment feels nostalgic and they go above and beyond for their customers. Celebrated my birthday here and I had the time of my life, will be celebrating my birthday here every year now.

I walked down Bloor with some family and decided to go in for Chinese and Im glad I did. Food was great , service was quick and portions are big!

This is a solid Chinese spot in the west end. All the usual favorites, chicken balls, fried rice, egg rolls etc. Not traditional Chinese but instead all of the Americanized favorites you know and love. Lots of take-out traffic especially on Friday nights.

this is the kinda chinese that in the 80s your parents went to and thought wow this is authentic chinese food, and then as time went on and you came about and learned about real chinese food you realised that gloopy sugary sauce with frozen fish and chicken may not be as authentic as the rose tinted glasses its viewed through by your parents.

Food is ok but they have extremely slow service. Pick up order called in and told 30 minutes. Order still not ready over an hour later. This has happened before as well and this is the last time. Too bad as it was the place we always went to when growing up.

Amazing spot

One of the worst restaurant service Ive ever received. The waiter DID NOT understand our orders since we asked whether its possible make some changes to the combo. She suggested another way without explaining to us that those food are not included in the combo and needs to be ordered separately. Paid extra $8 because of this mistake. The food was equally bad as its service. Its the least authentic Chinese food Ive ever had. Will never return back again.

Good Food At A Good Price

Horrible horrible customer service!!! I called in to place a pick up order of shrimps and forgot to mention that I wanted my shrimps with no shell. I called back 2 minutes after I realized and talked to 2 workers and the manager, each and every person I talked to were so rude and unprofessional. The manager told me that he already cooked the shrimps and that he wasnt going to cook it again for me even though I was going to pay, he then hung up the phone on me! I would advice anyone thinking about ordering from this restaurant to not order from here and to find another better restaurant !!

Placed an order over the phone for a dinner party of 6 on Saturday, October 14th for $90.00. We order chicken balls and did not receive chicken ball but boney sweet and sour chicken. We also ordered mixed vegetables with cashews. There were no cashews in the mixed vegetables. When we arrived home I called to let them know our order was not correct. The person on the other end of the phone indicated they were too busy and could Not deliver the correct replacement to me. However, they indicated I could receive a credit towards my next order. I am Extremely disappointed! We had a dinner party with guests and had terrible food. I have been a loyal Customer for years but have decided to find about her Chinese restaurant. What has happened to this restaurant and service. I used to love their food and now it is terrible. We spent $9.95 for mixed veggies with mixed cashew and there was no cashew. We also spent $9.95 for sweet and sour chicken balls and we received sweet and sour chicken pieces with bone - no chicken balls. When I called they were aware that they mixed up our order but indicated we would receive a credit on our next order. They were too busy to deliver the correct items that we had ordered. We had a dinner party with guests and were not able to leave them Again to pick up the correct items. No apology was made. Extremely disappointed. We will Never come back to This restaurant after ordering from here for 20 years.

Review based on take out, food was actually pretty good, not that expensive, service was fast, the washrooms are on the basement and they may benefit from a renovation, the place has a feeling of old school chinese restaurants.

Atrocious service! I went in to place an order; it took more than fifteen minutes for someone to come out from the kitchen and then, when they noticed me and another customer standing there waiting, they just turned their back and walked back into the kitchen.... This is a great location; maybe its time they closed their doors, shut down their business, and left the space available for a retailer that doesnt have contempt for its customers.

I live in Halifax now and miss ordering from Hong Kong Gardens. We ordered food from there for 40 years and were never disappointed!

Food was great,we all had the dinner for 1/won ton soup. Also got a side order of pad tai. Food came fast and hot. The only reason Im giving Hong Kong Gardens a 4 is because they couldnt make a fancy mixed drink. Definitely will return and/or get delivery.

Blah Blah Blah... any negative you read are from the entitled snobs in the neighborhood who expect God to bow down when they walk through the door. This is a mom and pop shop. I have been ordering from them for decades, no issues. Food is good, price is reasonable. You will not be disappointed. You want 5 start service, go eat at Scaramouche or Mortons. You can play the part of the snob there! ;)

I was originally recommended to try Hong Kong Gardens from a chef and I can understand why. The vegetables are always fresh and crunchy and the other dishes are flavorful. I recommend the Orange Chicken.

Decent North-American style Chinois food and ordered several times until this past weekend. I was told it would take 45-60 minutes for delivery which turned into 1 hour and 45 minutes to get to my house with two hungry children and my wife. No discount and no real apology - only a lame excuse we were very busy. Bye bye Hong Kong Garden.

Its the neighborhoods go to delivery place. The people are friendly, the speed is fantastic and the food is absolutely divine. Make sure to try the legendary won ton soup.

WORST CHINESE FOOD I EVER HAD! Last night was the third time I ordered from Hong Kong Garden. The first two, the food were good and delivery were quick. But last night, delivery took 2 hours! And I live about a 3 mins drive. I called the restaurant and they just kept saying sorry and nothing else. When the food arrived, the food were cold, and quality was terrible. Ordered lemon chicken and there was barely any chicken- just very thick soggy fried batter. I also ordered sweet and sour pork, and there wasnt any meat- just all bones. Same with the chicken balls- barely any meat just thick soggy fried batter. Not sure what was going on that night but they for sure have lost my business. NEVER AGAIN!!

The worst service ever! Messed up my order than sent me old food. Called a thousand times and they ignored my calls.

Best Chinese food in toronto

This is the best Chinese food Ive had in my life. For a while I was eating here every week with my girlfriend. We felt the best deal was the individual combos number 3. Its under 8 bucks and is the best thing ever. Their food is so much fresher than mandarin. The best egg rolls too and wonton soup. Its the only place where you can tell the wontons arent frozen before they cook them. Bcould go on more about it but you should just try it you wont regret it.

I have been eating here for years and it is always consistently SOOO GOOD! Fresh and crispy chicken balls, crisp veggies, awesome pad thai noodles! Every time I go there to pick up the food it is always packed with people doing the same. Oh and rarely can you eat chinese food the following day, but you can with this place. Enjoy!
