An Awesome Joint ! 4 types of fish for fish & chips in crispy light batter. They have your standard halibut and cod, but also 2 environmentally renewable in pollock and haddock. Great burgers (note: they only use back bacon, which is more of a plus than a minus!), fries done the good old fashioned way, thick but crispy. They even have very tasty chicken and pork souvlaki. You just cant go wrong with anything on their menu. Higher quality and slightly less expensive than any of their competition within a mile of them. It is quality, delicious and a great deal!

Best place to eat fish, delicious food and great people working

I ve been going here my entire life. Gus is like family. The place is a staple of rexdale with the best food around.

UPDATE AUG. 27, 2024: Still loving the food from Chubbys and the wonderful staff members! As an example, why would I even bother cooking some of these dishes when they could do it for me? Less pots, pans, dishes, etc. for me to wash, too. UPDATE JUNE 19, 2024: I absolutely love this little restaurant and the staff that work there, even the temporary staff members. The food never disappoints me so Im a regular, e.g. for hamburgers, fish and chips, etc. Take out or sitting there to eat makes me happy. Theres a really friendly atmosphere here because of the wonderful staff members. This was definitely the place to be in Rexdale on Good Friday to buy fish and chips. The staff were well prepared in handling the line ups of customers throughout the day. I was there and watched them happily serving the satisfied customers. I cant say enough about Chubbys, their food and their staff members. Thank you, Chubbys! Big recommendation from me to go there! PREVIOUSLY: Over the years, I have thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food made with great care by the always friendly staff at Chubbys. The food portions are generous and good value. They stuck by us during the pandemic by staying open and have retained their loyalty by old and new customers. This is one of my favourite restaurants in Toronto. Thank you, Chubbys!

Nice for fish & chips

Ordered through Uber eats. It was possibly the worst food Ive ever had. Had the fish and chips and felt like I just drank a cup of oil. Tasted of old grease and the batters color was dark and bitter. I think if they changed the oil in their fryer more often it would improve the taste and presentation.

My husband introduced me to this place. Its under new ownership BUT be aware that the food is cooked EXACTLY THE SAME way as before. No complaints whatsoever. So yummy and decent pricing.

Every time we come here the food is great and everyone is friendly. Love that all the magic of the fish and chips happens before your eyes, halibut and haddock both taste amazing. We ll be back soon

Brings back fond memories from the 1970s. Food is same quality and quantity. Gus is still there. Will return soon! Parking: Typical strip Plaza parking lot. Lots of spaces available.

Absolutely the worst hamburger that I have ever had !! I joked at the 1950s picture of a hamburger that they have on the window and that even looked better. The fish is thin and the batter is greasy. Fries probably would have been okay had they cooked them another 3 minutes Food

Great food. Great portions. Great prices. Really nice owner. I quite enjoy the old school feel. Nothing fancy needed here as their food is delicious. T-Rex Combo which included 8 ounce burger, boatload of fresh, hot fries and a drink.

Good Fish and chips but a little over priced for a chip shop

The fish is over cooked giving it a very dark appearance rather then the traditional golden tan look. The flavour was a little too to oily to enjoy. Maybe the oil is too hot, or it was left in the oil longer then usual..

I had the small souvlaki dinner today which came with a salad, fries, and chicken. YUM! Chicken had alot of flavour and the portions are so generous. Tzatziki is really good. Family owned and the people who work there are so caring and kind. Love this place <3

Quick dinner meal. Partner Had the Halibut and chips. I had the grilled spicy chicken sandwich. Both delicious. Would return and update my review for the 5th consistency star.

No table service on good Friday I was disappointed and thought I could eat my food there..my food I took out was very greasy and not good I didnt eat it was not impressed at all ..but I dont like to take out food that is cooked in oil..the oil sinks in food and makes it gross

I ve been coming here since I moved to this area in 2001. Prices have definitely gone up over the years but the quality has always been consistent. Hearty pieces of halibut with perfectly golden fries. The gravy is unlike any other in the GTA! My favourite spot for fish and chips!

The other day was my very first time ever going here. We couldnt find a good place for fish & chips so we decided to try this restaurant. I am so glad we did. It was so amazing, at least we thought so. My husband ordered the Halibut and Chips and I got the Chicken Souvlaki Dinner. Was Delicious! Nice generous portions too whuch I had to take the rest home because I couldnt finish it. The Staff are friendly and very helpful. Will definitely come back again.

Great banquet burger and plenty of fries to go around

Excellent food and they give a lot, prices very reasonable,also the owner and the staff are so welcoming and great people always a smile and aiming to please their customers. Parking: Parking is good when I go for dinners never have I gone their and had a problem for a parking spot.

It used to be really great, but after COVID everything Downhill I live close, so Ive been going there for 10 years now. The fries are dry Like they are boiled. Its not crispy the halibut is so small compared to before and the price s so high $26 halibut and fries Food

I ordered from this place BC of the reviews. However, it wont happen again. Worst fish sandwich ever. Tell me why a restaurant that charges $15 for a fish sandwich couldnt put some lettuce n tomatoes on it? Its crazy that you guys think this is a good way to serve a sandwich and to get ketchup on it is .10c? On top of all that, the fish had no seasonings, no taste, just a deep fried battered piece of bland fish.

Typical hole in the wall in a sketchy plaza, but the food was quite good. Been coming here for years for their fish & chips. Starting to get a little expensive with the Halibut & Chips around $21. Still a go to place for me in this end of Toronto.

Ordered a 20 dollar souvlaki on a bun and came on a hot dog bun, I asked for extra tyziki sauce and got non at all so made a very dry sandwich. Never again!!!

Excellent Fish and chip very big portion. The banquet Burger is huge and it is very good for the price we pay. Cook to order so you can be sure the food is hot and fresh. This is the worst food I ve ever had. Fish has no taste and oily af, The fish and chips has the taste of old oil on them. I would never come back and I don t recommend anybody to visit.

Fantastic place for Halibut and chips. Prices are great, quality is great, and also had Steak on a bun which was equally as great. The 2 Asian ladies are so kind, cute, and brighten up your day. Keep up the great work ladies.

So my friend showed me this place snd their hand cut fries are so good and always so fresh as they make them fresh plus I would highly recommend getting the hand cut fries and using ketchup and mayonnaise and bit of salt and black pepper thanks chubby for the awesome food!

Way too expensive

Well. Maybe its covid, or maybe just a bad batch, but, both of us found them a bit greasy. Portions are big though.

My family has been going to Chubbys for more than 50 years. Its the best Fish & Chips in the GTA.

Excellent fish and chips with gravy. Chubby s is a well known fish and chip spot among the Rexdale folks. It has been a popular spot w the North Etobicoke locals since the late 70s or early 1980s. Fun diner feel w friendly service to eat in. Recommend.

burger and onion rings are incredible

I went to pick up an order of halibut fish & chips. This is my first time and certainly not my last time to order at Chubbys Fish N Chips. Best fish & I have eaten . The onion rings are delicious. They have a lot more food on the menu.

This is a disgrace to fish and chips. My entire family felt nauseous after eating. The fish was so greasy and unappetizing. Never ordering from here again. Save your stomach and dont eat from here!

Was disappointed in the halibut, wasnt terrible but wasnt memorable IMHO. I much pretty halibut house.

$18.00 for fish and chips, too expensive, and nothing else, no salad, etc. Sept. Closed today, exhaust fan problem, I love fish and chips, and this place does justice to that old art. good selection, and generous portions. Price is ok, Difficult to find if you dont know your way around, its in the strip plaza on Islington, opposite the entrance to Walmart. I highly recommend it, why? because I eat there, and I am bloody fussy.

Amazing old-school diner, specializing in Fish n Chips. I had the spicy chicken breast burger, it was charcoal-marked heaven. Think of Jumbo Burgers near the Junction or Square Boys in East York on the Danforth. So GOOD!

I love this place and have been going here for at least 20years. The only complaint I have is the fries they have changed and I find them very dry. The portions are great but my suggestion is go back to the old fries please. Other than that everything else is great!!!

The halibut is flavourless, without a hint of seasoning; one of the pieces I was served consisted of at least 90% bread. The chips were as dry and flavourless as $1 bagged potato chips from a supermarket. I have absolutely no idea how the ratings are positive as they are - unless the shady operators of this cash only (that is to say, money laundering) shop are deleting negative reviews. Steak Queen, Solarium, and Red Rock are all located just down the road, and they sell much tastier, healthier, and more filling variations of fish and chips for about 2/3rds of the price. Chubbys simply would not be able to stay open and organically compete with any of these restaurants if it was not a blatant money laundering scheme - but 23 Division would rather spend their time harassing black people on the streets than put any effort into investigating this dump.

Best Homemade fish and chips in the GTA.

Very nice welcome when we entered. Since they are closed for dine in due to the Covid pandemic, we ordered halibut and chips for take out. The fish was tasty and crispy and fries were plenty and fresh but slightly under done. We enjoyed our meal and will return.

Too greasy.. for a place that is known to apply home recipes. Certainly not worth the money and theres hardly any place to sit and eat unless you want to gossip with the oldies. This place is run down and needs to be skipped if fish and chips are on your mind.

Ive been going to Chubbys Fish and Chips for years as a kid till I was 25 years old. Im now 59 and I just went back again. Gus is still there. The food is fantastic just like it has always been.

Fish and chips Fish was delicious . but the fries I didn t like it we had to throw it. Other fish and chips restaurant in the town has better fries (Heritage Brampton) I made two orders , both of them we finished the fish but threw the fries. Fish well cooked 4/5 Fries 1/5 over all 3/5.

Freshly made fish and chips. Got the haddock. Tasty fish and batter. Fresh cut fries made from real potatoes and deep fried to perfection. The gravy on the side was tasty and plentiful. What made a great meal more enjoyable was how genuinely nice the staff were.
