John's Fish & Chips in Etobicoke

My husband and I randomly stopped by (the outside has a very inviting vibe) and we were blown away. The best fish and chips weve had in the city, definitely get the Greek salad with the fries as your side. Family run, so welcoming. We will definitely be back, its officially our go-to spot for fish and chips.

I ordered 2 pieces of fish, a large fries and a side of gravy and it came out to $41dollars, Very pricey. Never again.

This was an absolute joy. The halibut and chips were cooked to perfection. Also had coleslaw which was delicious. I find most coleslaw a little too vinegary but this one had just a hint of vinegar that was perfect. Took my 90 year old mother and 91 year old father who very rarely finish their meal. There wasnt a crumb left on anyones plate. Bottle of Guinness was the real thing. Not seen this type of bottle before. Im not a Guinness drinker but found this bottled stout very delicious. Atmosphere was absolutely spot on had so many nice touches in the decor. Everywhere I looked there was something that I was saying oh look at that. Although its a nautical theme its very upscale, chic nautical. I had to ask who decorated. It was the owner, Bills, wife. I tell you this lady nailed every detail. She should be offering her services as a decorator to.others. Very talented couple. Met their pet pirrana. Dont put your fingers in the water!!! True story ... while on vacation the fish was fed 20 goldfish. Now he has an orange tint to his bottom half. Lol Was a real joy to eat here and chat with the owners. Classy, friendly couple. I absolutely love to eat here. I always order haddock ( grilled ) & greek salad. Johns is the only fish & chips restaurant that offers rice with their fish. The food is amazing. It s always done to perfection. The service is top notch too. The restaurant is clean comfortable and I just can t say enough about how much I appreciate and enjoy dining there. Thanks Johns. This is a nice little family fish and chips restaurant. Very old fashioned vibes with friendly and welcoming staff. The halibut was excellent; the batter was very light and crispy... Not greasy at all. The Greek salad was simple, fresh and delicious. Overall, a great dining experience.

Love the place the owners are amazing and so sweet. The food is fantastic. We ordered fish and chips halibut and Haddock and their artichoke as an app. So good. Haddock is chemical free amd their fish is fillet in the restaurant. Definitely returning and great summer spot to chill and enjoy good meal. Also cute lights in the window for pics

Best fish and chips in Toronto, batter is spot on, chips are whole cut and delicious. Smelts were also excellent as was the calamari. Our first visit but certainly not the last. Perfectly cooked halibut and chips, the fish had the lightest batter, crisp and delicious. All washed down with a cool, crisp white wine. A perfect lunch with friendly service.

Was craving a lobster roll and Johns delivered. A bit pricey at $31, but as fresh and delicious as can be!

The best fish and chips restaurant my husband and I have experienced! FOOD: Excellent quality and delicious halibut. Thier calamari was outstanding - always fresh and seasoned to perfection, better than any restaurant in the GTA, in my opinion. They also have delicious LOBSTER ROLL, which is my fave. It was made with real lobster, unlike some places downtown that claim to serve lobster roll but are really serving a mix of shrimp and imitation crab meat. Their menu has a lot of delicious offerings that we cant wait to try. We will definitely return! SERVICE: The service was above and beyond hospitable. The owners are very friendly and kind. They took the time to get to know us and were attentive to our needs; this is rare in the restaurant scene these days. My husband and I go to a LOT of restaurants and servers are often inattentive and rushed. Johns Fish and Chips is a family owned business so theres a personal touch that makes your dining experience pleasant and memorable. ATMOSPHERE: This is a charming restaurant that is relaxing and calming to dine in. The restaurant is also in a convenient location. My fiancé and I were welcomed with open arms at this family-run establishment. We decided to go on Good Friday, not expecting it to be take-out only with a limited menu that day. It was way busier than we anticipated, but all things considered, the staff carried themselves well despite the large volume of orders. The wife/mother even went around making sure the people waiting were doing okay. The food itself was the best fish and chips Ive had thus far in Etobicoke. Both the fish and fries were cooked to perfection. I cant wait to go back and dine in.

We had the grilled bronzini and it was incredible. Beautifully seasoned and cooked. We did takeout, but the service was lovely and the vibes inside were cozy and nice. Cant wait to go back!

The BEST fish and chips I ever had. It s hard to find a place in Toronto with food that tastes like homemade, delicious and perfectly cooked. Me and my husband already went to John s more than once and the food is 100% of the time amazing! We always leave there happy. Everyone at John s is super nice and friendly. Their battered halibut was NOT AT ALL grease or oil, it was soooooo good! We already tried their rice pudding, lemon meringue pie and chocolate truffle cake, and we loved it all. Amazing option to have lunch or dinner.

Got to Johns Fish & Chips late but they insisted on making a fresh batch to ensure the best quality. The fish and chips were fantastic loved their commitment to great food!

Dropped in here for the first time today to try the lobster roll and it did not disappoint, good amount of lobster and love the fresh lemon wedge. Feta fries are super yummy too not dry like other places

A local hidden gem for fish and chips and other seafood options. Clean with simple but nice ambience, very relaxing atmosphere (my style of quieter music) ! Friendly, personable and attentive service with great food! Owners went out of their way to assist a repeat vision impaired customer to ensure his online order was delivered. Just had the lunch special at John s and it was delicious. Really great fish and chips. Batter was perfect, light and not greasy. Seasoning was on point. Saw a comment on tiktok to check this place out, went and had their new lobster roll and the haddock and coleslaw and was blown away! One of the owners Maria was an absolute sweetheart and gave us the best service we could ask for with a big smile and the cozy atmosphere is so lovely. Can t believe I haven t been here before but now I will definitely be back and telling others about how good it is!

Best fish and chips weve had in the GTA. Their fish is moist and fresh, the batter is light, fluffy and golden crisp. We could tell from eating it that they change their oil frequently: it doesnt have a greasy taste, its light and clean. We were served by the owners wife, who is very nice. She tells us the owner filets the halibut himself, and thats why its so moist. Would highly recommend this place any time youre in the neighborhood.

I gave a 2 stars just for the atmosphere of the dining area. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE AND EXTREMELY PRICEY for putting boiled stinky fish on the plate. It does not taste like it used to. They didn t bother change my order when I requested. On top of that they requested tips. Paid over $60 for literally nothing. Not sure if the management changed but it s horrible! If you love to explore and waste money then by all means go to this rip off place. Fish n chips should not cost this much for such bad quality. They too lied about the ingredients they use so much for a customer s allergy alert. Is simply street food with a 5 star label. I have travelled the world and had fish and chips .none of them as this. Dietary restrictions: Nothing indicated by owner

I just want to write about a fantastic fish and chips restaurant which is across the street from my clinic. We treat ourselves to their delicious halibut fish, chips and coleslaw. The fish is very crispy and the portion size is generous. The fries are delicious and the coleslaw is perfect. They also have many other options on their menu. We have tried many other places, but Johns Fish and Chips is by far the best we have ever had. It is exceptional and a must try. It is a family owned restaurant which is very clean, and customer service is number one to them. The staff are very friendly and kind. They make sure that you are satisfied in every way.

We had the most DELICIOUS meal at Johns Fish & Chips! We ve been to many fish and chips restaurants, but this amazing spot knocked it out of the park! The food was fresh and hot and cooked to perfection. Also, the restaurant was sparking clean, something we noticed right away. To top it off, it is a family run restaurant and they are all so kind and welcoming. Couldn t have had a better experience and were so happy we walked in! Definitely recommend this restaurant ! The food is FRESH and homemade quality. The service is is so friendly they make you feel like family. The serving sizes were large and were able to eat it all as it was so fresh and delicious. The fried battered fish was light, crispy and not at all greasy. BEST gosh and chips what Ive ever had. Highly recommended! Cant wait to go back.

This Saturday after the Toronto Boat, we kept with our nautical theme and experienced the Winterlicious menu at Johns Fish and Chips. It was fabulous! The friendly service and delightful decor made us feel very welcome. I had the coconut shrimp, amazing, and the calamari, delicious. My partner had the smelts, a real delicacy, and the halibut and chips, cooked to perfection! We finished our meal with the delicious homemade, warm baklava. Thank you for a wonderful evening! My husband and I went for winterlicious here - found this little gem! We felt like seafood and we got the best! Its been a very long time we have experienced this quality customer service. One of, if not the best battered fish in the city! Perfectly crispy batter with flaky fish. And the homemade coleslaw is also a standout. I love the options for fish that most fish and chips spots dont offer, and the breaded fish is also fantastic. The family who owns the place are lovely and so welcoming. The restaurant has such a fun, inviting atmosphere because of that which makes the food even better. We ended up getting baklava for dessert, and it was also delicious -- their baklava is also homemade and you wont find it elsewhere.

Very lovely and welcoming husband and wife owners. My husband is a fish and chips connoisseur and he found John s has the best! The appetizer special of pressed Greek yogurt and honey was out of this world. I could have made a meal of it. Next time, I m going to try some shrimp or maybe join my husband in fish n chips. Worth the half hour drive from mid Toronto.

The fish and chips are delicious. However the pork was horrible and chewy (gun texture) and the calamari had a foul smell. The artichoke were greasy and will probably not order again. Spent $135 for a grease fest.

Johns has the best fish and chips in the city. My family and I go here on a weekly basis and it never disappoints. Always ready quick and always fresh and delicious. They also have the best Greek salad as a side for all their various dishes we choose to get. Branzino is also 10/10 highly recommend. Always my go to place to dine in or take out!

Our second visit for our second year anniversary and the food was just as fresh as the first time. The battered Haddock and grilled shrimp were delicious! The tzatziki and pita app was warm and the perfect shareable size. The ambience is always friendly and familiar. Loved it!

First time trying this lovely spot - we were welcomed with a friendly smile right away. We ordered the cod & the halibut - this was the first fish and chips place I ve been to that had delicious fries along with the fish. It came out relatively quick and was absolutely delicious. Etobicoke Gem! My husband and I finally visited this small family owned business and we were very pleased! The atmosphere was very warm, inviting, and friendly and the food was fresh and absolutely delicious. We ordered the calamari and halibut dinners - the fish was fried to perfection, not greasy at all and perfectly battered - same with the calamari! The rice was amazing! You can tell this family business takes pride in what they do and it definitely shows! We will absolutely be back and telling all of our family and friends about John s!

Very friendly staff, made us feel right at home. The food was delicious. My hubby had the Brensino and he was very impressed. I had the fish and chips, also very impressed. They have a different, but very delicious take on the Baklava dessert. Its not what Im used to but it is a delicious version. I recommend to try it. Great menu with healthy options.

We went there yesterday for dinner. It was such an amazing experience. The food was amazing. We had battered halibut with fries, and grilled branzino fish with salad. The batter tasted so good. All I could say was 5 star for food. The service was amazing as well. The ambience was warm, welcoming, and joyful. Their price range is also reasonable in my opinion. Lastly, this shop is a family business that has been running for 40 years. They are definitely a must-try when you are around the Kipling station area.

Nice family owned restaurant. Service was very nice after the tense dinner rush hour period. Fish & chips were good, a bit dry. Calamari is excellent. Fried Artichoke was nice without over-flavoring. Churro dessert was Delicious! About a dozen tables. Limited parking.

I finally made it to this beautiful family-owned restaurant, and my only regret is that I didnt visit sooner! The place was clean, the service was outstanding, the owners treat you like family, and the food was delicious. I ordered the fish and chips the fish was fresh and so crispy; the fries cooked to perfection and not too salty, and the coleslaw hit the spot perfectly. Dont leave without ordering a slice of their famous baklava youll thank me later. I cant wait to come back :)

All I can say is this place wipes all competition!! I always get fish and chips from almost anywhere when I see it s on the menu, Johns fish and chips has taken the lead hands down. John s is now a new all time favourite and a go to spot for me. That says a lot more than you may think just reading this review as I love fish and chips and have had many. Over the years, never have I been inclined to let everyone else know how great a place is. As the saying goes, a bad experience will have a customer tell 10 people. A good experience and they may only tell one. In this instance everybody deserves to know how awesome this place is. Whether it s Easter Sunday, or family take out night, do yourselves a favour and give this place a try. You will not regret it.

After ordering online a few times, my husband and I checked John s Fish and Chips in person. The fish is so fresh (and lightly battered) and the baklava in unreal. Never had anything like it (very soft and moist). The customer service was by far the best part - everyone is very welcoming. We will be back to try the Calamari and other items off the menu!

The spot to be for fish and chips! Consistently fresh, delicious, and generous portions. Owned by absolute angels, who will even bring out water for when you get a flat tire in their parking lot and are waiting for CAA ;) We will be back (again and again)!

Amazing food and the friendliest family!!! Been enjoying their fish and calamari for a while but recently decided to try the octupus and it was AMAZING!! The way it was prepared, the tenderness and the flavours made it really enjoyable... the best I have ever eaten.... Its so nice to walk into a restaurant where you are treated like family and even better when the food is so great!!

Came in today with my parents and best friend after a recommendation from a friend and his dad. They said it was their favourite fish and chips spot after going through all of the places we ve both been and I HAD to try. They were 100% right. First of all, best fish and chips I have actually ever eaten but the service is whats worth writing this review (i have never written a restaurant review). Maria was the sweetest and kindest lady along with her mother and husband Bill. We chatted for about 40 minutes with conversations flying back and forth. Everyone had so much to say. She was super personable and seems like an amazing person. This will be our new spot and i can t wait to come back :)))

Tried this for the first time a couple weeks ago, close to home, good reviews. Good service. Had the saganaki appitizer and grilled fish with Greek salad for main and it was very good. My friend had the fish and chips and it was a generous portion and looked great, will definitely dine there again.

I just enjoyed THE TASTIEST battered halibut I have eaten in years. Not greasy, light batter and the fish was perfectly cooked: moist and flaky--you could tell it was fresh. Fries were good and the homemade slaw was delicious--nice and vinegary. Would go back a second night in a row easily.

We have eaten here for many years. The food is consistently delicious. The owners are a delightful and conscientious couple. This restaurant has to be the best Fish & Chip restaurant in Toronto. If you haven t been to John s F & C you are missing a delightful experience. It is even better than any F & Cs in London England.

Tried out here with my boyfriend for the first time today since we moved in the neighbourhood few months ago. Just wanna say that we did have the best customer service ever from the owner and her family. We were also amazed by how delicious the foods were. Eventhough the menu is pretty basic, just like other fish n chips restaurants, the taste is insane and extremely different, really fresh and yummy especially artichoke and sea smelt (appertizers), salads with homemade dressing was amazing, dessert was homemade baklava so well-made and moist. Extremely recommend this restaurant in west end Etobicoke!!!

Honeslty this is one of the best restaurants in Canada. My family has been coming here since it opened back in the 80s, and the recipes are still high quality. If you want to eat in, be prepared to be served by the most wonderful staff members. Family owned and family run. From Grilled Cheese sandwiches to their homemade Tatar sauce, you will be satisfied...especially when looking at the bill, the prices are clear and true to the quality of the food. The entire restaurant gets cleaned throughly daily once the establishment closes. You can feel safe with the atmosphere and the touch of music, as well as workers being fully vaccinated and they still check the QR codes. My immune compromised grandfather and his lovely wife swung by the restaurant for a quick lunch and they felt safe. The staff remember their customers names and check in with you even when its packed on a Friday night. I only get a Greek salad from here, with their family recipe dressing. Theres a reason why this restaurant has been congratulated with all of these awards; very well deserved. Fish is fish but nothing beats Johns Fish n Chips!!!

Just discovered this great little Greek Restaurant. We had an amazing fish and chips. I love that there is an option of grilled, breaded or battered. Maria and her husband (who is the chef) do a great job.

We tried this fish and chips place in our neighbourhood. My friend ordered the Halibut fish and chips and I ordered the Grilled Halibut with rice. The battered fish was tasty and delicious. It was lightly battered and the fish was fresh, moist and well seasoned. The grilled fish was not as tasty but the rice was good. Next time I will probably order the fish and chips. The place is clean and service was fast.

Tried this today, ordered battered Halibut and Haddock with chips. Fish is delicious, well seasoned and crispy. The chips were by far the best weve tried and their tartar sauce is great. We learned it is a family owned restaurant for over 40 years. Service was friendly and fast, will go again!

The best fish and chips Ive ever had. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant and the food is always prepared fresh. Their tartar sauce is amazing. The staff is always very friendly as well. You cant go wrong by choosing to come here.

Ordered yesterday from Johns, the battered halibut with coleslaw and rice. This was the worst packaged food and fish Ive seen to date. Those foam containers with the soggiest piece of fish Ive seen, with a side of rice. All wrapped with paper, the funny thing is I ordered the rice because i didnt want that much oil from the fries, but guess what was dripping with oil? The whole paper wrap was drenched in oil. For 20$ i expect a little better quality and less oil!! Not rating the food because of course I didnt eat it. Thanks for trying though

First time eating at John s Fish N Chips I have never had Fish and Chips that even come close to what they serve here !!! The food smelt so amazing I couldn t wait to get back to work to eat it The taste was unimaginably delicious I got the halibut battered with fries and coleslaw Everything was so fresh and cooked to Perfection ! Had a coworkers first time trying fish n chips and even they were blown away by how great this tasted! Not only was the food outstanding but the staff here are extremely friendly, polite, and respectful, They showed great customer service and make some amazing food to back them up! I will for-sure be getting this food more often If I could leave 100 stars I would !!!!

I ve been coming to John s for decades. Brought three friends tonight. Two of us had the haddock with fries and the Greek salad. Two orders of halibut and fries. One with Greek salad, one without. First time having dessert. Lemon merengue pie, baclava and a raspberry cheesecake. Large portions. Delicious food. Delightful owners husband cooking and wife waiting tables. Happy to support local! Can t wait till I visit again.

From the decor to the food to the atmosphere, we loved it and we met the owners and they were lovely and extremely friendly. The food was really delicious. Will definitely come back for more.

I went in right at closing and didn t realize. They still took my order and the food is phenomenal. We come here often and always get chicken fingers and battered haddock with Greek salad. Friendly service and high quality every time. Very fresh. Tip them well!

We visited as part of Summerlicious, and immediately decided we needed to go back to try out the rest of the menu! This quintessential neighborhood spot is a true family-run spot. Super friendly owners take care of you with freshly prepared seafood (and drinks!) You can taste the quality and love that goes into each meal, and they still take the time to get to know you. No wonder theyve been around for as long as they have!

Fabulous family run business w/a 42 year legacy! So friendly. Wow!! It was my first time here for Summerlicious, would definitely recommend & I would come back. Fish was super light & crispy, greek salad was super tasty, coconut shrimp was so sweet & savory. The portions are huge! Too much food. Great value. Love love love :)

For context, my family is from Nova Scotia so we feel we have had good seafood before. We have ordered takeout and were impressed with the fish and chips. Our large party of 13 recently dined in - every single person, ranging from kids aged 9-10 to adults in their 80s felt the food was excellent - grilled or battered. If ordering the battered fish the serving of fish itself is huge, and the lovely person who served our big party was attentive, friendly and provided excellence guidance to our party member who has celiac disease. We did not take pictures but refer to all the others posted on Google reviews - they are indicative of what we had. I would not describe the venue itself as being fancy, but fits the bill for what I would expect of a nice, family run local business that serves high quality food. Will definitely return as our new go to seafood place and try more of the menu, and continue to plan to support this local gem.

New to the area, gave this restaurant a chance for Friday night dinner with the wife and it was WONDERFUL! Amazing fish and chips! I don t think you ll find this quality anywhere else in the GTA. Lovely family, lovely restaurant. New favourite neighbourhood spot!

Fantastic fishnchips, friendly service and good atmosphere

This is probably the best experience Ive had at a restaurant in years. The food was just perfect for my taste. I love coleslaw and have eaten a fair amount of it throughout my life, and I think I probably complimented them 3 or 4 times! Then proceeded to clean my plate of it. The fish was perfectly battered and fried, and the tarter sauce was unique but familiar and made a perfect topping to the haddock I ordered. To top it off, they have Fanta, a drink to bring you back. To add to the experience the owners are wonderful, and make you feel at home even if its your first time there (which it was mine). I am so happy I just happened to be in the area and was hungry at the time. This is my new spot for Fish & Chips and worth the hour drive for me to get it. I will be back soon!! -Sarah

I absolutely love this place, from the decor to the food (especially the food). The halibut is recommended here and its been amazing every time Ive gotten it. The service is very homely, and hospitable. Overall a 5/5, love this place.

Good fish and chips

Johns Fish and Chips is amazing. Its an old place that really know what they are doing. A place that stats in business this long is staying afloat for a reason. We got halibut and chipsand we all loved it. Best fishand chips place Ive been to in a very long time. Fish is tasty and firm. Loved my experience.

Best Calamari in the city! I have tried to find a property cooked calamari for long time in GTA and everywhere it s rubbery. Here was perfectly cooked like the calamari you will enjoy in the Mediterranean or a Greek island. Bravo! Everything we tried was perfect. This is a family business and owners are friendly and very nice people.

The fish was amazing! Loved meeting the owners. The fish is Atlantic caught and quite fresh. The batter is light and tasty. The onion rings were awesome. Its worth the trip. The portions were huge. Look at the pic below for the size of one piece of fish. Coleslaw is made in house and really good. I will be back soon with my entire family!!!!

The fish was absolutely phenomenal! Stunning texture on the calamari, and the sea smelts were breaded and fried to perfection. Both my friends halibut and my dishes were the best fried fish weve ever had at a fish and chip place. Would definitely recommend!

Nice family owned restaurant with excellent battered haddock. Our server, Maria, was attentive and friendly. I will definitely go back to try their calamari with a cold bottle of Landshark.

This place is a gem! So happy I found this place. Really tasty food made by kind people! You can tell they love what they do and theyre happy to feed us! The place is so clean too, which is super important...cant wait to eat inside once COVID ends. Got takeout. I had the halibut, haddock, chicken wings and smelt and they were all freshly made and tasted so authentic. We will definitely be new regulars! A must-try spot for seafood lovers!

I ordered haddock chips and onion rings. They dont make their own tartar sauce its from little packets and they use frozen pre made onion rings. I gave 2 stars because the portion size was decent and the fries were okay. I wont be eating from here again.

I saw this place on a FB group post and gave them a try. I really enjoy seafood and so glad I found this spot. I ordered the Branzino grilled fish with butter and herbs option entrée with rice and Greek salad. Hands down the dish was soooo delicious. Fish was made to perfection, delicate, flaky, simple in flavors yet overly delicious. I loved it. Lovely family owned restaurant. Maria was very welcoming with her husband and son. They certainly got my vote and got themselves a repeat customer. Highly recommend!! Support Small businesses.

This is our fish n chips place - never been disappointed, whether dining in or takeout. Always great, friendly service no matter how busy (and you can tell their quality is well known by how busy they are on Good Friday). Can t wait to dine in and see them again once we re past the lockdown. In the meantime, their takeout has been great!
