5088 Dundas St W, Etobicoke, ON M9A 1C2, Canada
Compact, colourful storefront eatery offering a full hot & cold Japanese menu with sake & beer.
The food was good, and the server was very sweet. The sushi was fresh. Definitely worth a visit!
This is our go-to Etobicoke sushi restaurant. The sushi is fresh & delicious; the portion sizes are generous; & they offer a fantastic selection of rolls. (Highly recommend their Toji roll - so good!) The udon dishes are also a favourite when we’re craving more of a saucy stir-fry. The owners are such lovely people who always treat our kids with kindness, respect & offer them extra attention when they aren’t too busy. Pictures shown are from a takeout order but dining in is also really great. We love Toji!!
Quaint place with a nice ambiance. Food is so good and the service is amazing! Everything was fresh and tasty. Been here a few times (both sit in and take out). Owner was super nice and gave us green tea while we waited for our to go orders. Will definitely keep going there for sushi.
Soup is very tasty! It's simple plain and greasy which I like so I added a little Chilli pepper and it's super dope!
The restaurant had a cozy ambiance that set the tone for a relaxing meal. Miso soup was on point, and salad was light and refreshing. The sushi was notably fresh, with generous portions and a varied selection. Overall, it was a satisfying experience with no complaints
Food was good and the owner was friendly. The shashimi was fresh and our seafood udon tasted delicious. But compared to the Japanese restaurant next door, it’s more expensive and doesn’t taste that excellent, hence we give it 4*
A tiny sushi restaurant with a perfect cozy ambience and efficient service. Plenty of vegetarian options and fresh tasty dishes. We got the tofu appetizer and gyoza, a noddle soup and some sushi. All made to order we throughly enjoyed the taste. Visited twice within a span of few weeks and the owner remembered our order, it was so sweet! Will come again.
Update May 2023: We regularly go to this restaurant but I don't think we will be coming back. After dinner we were still enjoying our hot tea when the owner already removed our placemats, wanted to already get our teacups and started connecting two more tables to seat more people. That was absolutely rude of the owner, she wanted us to immediately vacate our table because she needed the table when we were not done yet. We told her that we will not be coming back because of this treatment. This is the height of poor customer service. This is the place I go for Salmon sashimi, softshell crabs, agedashi tofu, Bi Bim Bap, Shrimp Tempura. You can also order party trays of sushi and sashimi. I have tried other food in their menu like their chicken/beef/salmon teriyaki and they are all so good. The food is always fresh and reasonably priced. Update: We keep going back to this place. This time we ordered their Lunch Special. My friend ordered the Beef Teriyaki Bento and I ordered the Bulgogi and Tempura. It is served with miso soup, rice, agedashi tofu, salad and sushi. Food is always fresh and so delicious.
Old sushi restaurant with the prices of the steak house
The owner/lady at cash register, made sure our order was done to perfection. Even though she doesn t speak a lot of English, she makes up for it with her kindness
( Hoedeopbap ) Fresh vegetavles and generous amt of fresh sashimi chunks Food
The older lady that served my friend and I was friendly and nice. The restaurant is in this tiny plaza along Dundas Street West in Etobicoke. The sushi was fresh.
My favorite place for Japanese cuisine.
Went in to use the washroom as i have a medical condition. I politely asked the staff to allow me to use it, i was met with unproffessional and rude attitude, and ultimatly these people dont understand the meaning of medical emergency.
Very delicious... vegetarian food like salty food
Very friendly, excellent food, I ate a salmon bento box 10 out of 10
Great sushi, quality salmon that melts in your mouth (not something I can say about many sushi places in 2024), and exceptional service. Today my partner and I decided to order a new 2-piece sushi that we never tried and it simply wasn t our cup of tea. We did not complain, we just didint finish it, and the owner noticed it and replaced this order with salmon sushi on house. I feel like I m at my nana s here
Loved the yam and avocado roll, but everything was delicious.
Extremely long waits every time you come here to pickup. Never once is the food ready on time.
Everything was excellent, service and food!!!
A wonderful spot to enjoy delicious food and pleasant service
Do NOT waste your time fir this place. The service us horrible! They forgot everything Food : 3/5
Consistently good food, have been coming for years, best sushi in the town!
The Workers: Its interesting that the owner (The Elderly Lady) seems unaware that people of other races can speak Korean. The racism towards Japanese people from Korean staff at a sushi restaurant is surprising and disappointing. The Food: Regrettably, the experience was accompanied not just by unpleasant attitudes but also by subpar cuisine. The texture of the fish was disappointingly soft and squishy, lacking the desired firmness expected in sushi. The Restaurant itself: Adding to the disappointment, the ambiance was tarnished by the presence of several bugs, a stark contrast to the numerous cobwebs hanging from the ceilings. Overall, this establishment fails to warrant a return visit.
Its not enough to be Japanese to make good rolls.....
The sushi here is delicious, it has a homey but very nice atmosphere, the ramen is delicious too.
Ordered UberEats from this restaurant just to try out a new restaurant for the new year. Portion is beyond small, leaving us hungry to find food elsewhere afterwards. The yam sushi roll does not suit my taste at all. Very disappointing.
I ordered an XL Maki 90 piece party tray that cost $170. I was disappointed because it seemed overpriced for what I got. It was mostly California rolls, rolls with just imitation crabmeat, and avocado/cucumber. Nothing really special or delicious, just like what you see at the mall kiosks. Also there was Kimbap in there and they didnt specify that...
Our #1 sushi place! The food is always fresh and the portions are generous. The family who runs the restaurant always greet us with a warm smile and really go out of their way to make their guests happy. It feels less like eating out at a restaurant and more like visiting a family friends home! Great food, great service, great value - you really couldnt ask for more!
Incredible sushi spot. Top quality. Not cheap but definitely worth it. Try the sushi pizza!
Lovely service, delicious food, nice atmosphere
My go to place when I m craving sushi nearby! Highly recommended
The sushi was very fresh and tasty. The restaurant was clean and very cozy. The server was very friendly. My only criticism is the price - the bento box was very expensive
The service was great not to mention it was some of the best sushi we had in some time. Definitely will be going back for more.
Such a cute small sushi spot with very kind owners. Tried their salmon skin roll for the first time and it was so good! Definitely going back
Nice sushi restaurant. They have many of Lunch combo menu. We enjoyed the big lunch combo. Food
Sushi/sashimi was fresh and tasty and reasonably priced
Delicious, nice atmosphere and not too crowded.
The food was okay, I got chicken katsu, it tasted good but the portion was on the small side for the price. Service was EXTREMELY slow. They may have been understaffed as there was only one woman serving/taking orders and one man making sushi. But they were still taking ubereats orders which probably made service even slower. After ordering we waited nearly 40 minutes for our food to arrive. And then we had to wait a long time just to pay too. I wouldnt recommend this place unless you got time to waste.
I ordered a Chirashi Sashimi - the fish was soft and floppy when it shouldve been firm. My wife ordered shrimp tempura which was listed as an appetizer. She asked the waitress if she could have it as a dinner. The waitress said yes but it turned out she didnt understand enough English and my wife received the appetizer only. An attempt to correct it required bringing somebody who spoke English so my wife ordered some rice and I gave her my salad. I will never go there again and am surprised by the high rating it received.
Definitely above average & authentic Japanese cuisine. Run by an elderly Japanese couple, who are polite, graceful and courteous. The ambiance is traditional and very pleasant. The sushi there is very well made and the pieces are quite large compared to the typical ones found in and around Toronto. And very tasty.
Food is always fresh and delicious. Service is great too.
Food is delicious. Very fresh and good quality. One of my fave sushi spots in Etobicoke.
Nothing nice to say about this place. Restaurant is completely filthy, the walls are covered with cobb webs the floors looks like it hasnt been cleaned in weeks, and why are there so many plants at this restaurant? Plants attract bugs and bugs in food is a health violation! The food was sub par the sushi rice was dry and hard. The tempura looks like it was deep fried in old oil. The only thing that was fresh was the salad and miso soup. It seems like the owners and the works dont care anymore.
Tried sushi for the first time and it was amazing Will visit again Food
Loved it! The Toji role is fire!!
Absolutely love this little gem! The owners are so sweet and they truly put their all into the food and service.
This place is *extremely* expensive for what you get. All the dishes were about 30-50% more costly than what you would expect at a comparable restaurant (generic, old storefront place in one of those Toronto vernacular 60s stripmalls with two rows of front parking and a flat above). It was as if they had just printed new menus with 5 years of inflation priced in. I recall a platter of just Bulgogi beef being listed for nearly thirty dollars. My wife and I tried this place after striking out two other places we found on Google (one didnt do dine-in, one sold pre-packaged rolls), so I didnt want to move us again even after we saw the menu. The medium sushi/sashimi/maki platter we ordered was $96 before tip and tax and merely got us pleasantly full, with no leftovers. All in, we wound up spending around $120 to consume a simple sushi-for-two and water. The sushi itself was...OK, probably about the average of all sushii I have had in my lifetime, which is quite a bit. The salmon was above average, soft and fatty, if not quite melt-in-your mouth. The tuna had a poor texture, as if it had previously been frozen. The other fish was pretty unremarkable, and I didnt really enjoy it (no unagi). The tempura maki was enjoyable. If the sushi was free, I would rate it three stars. Adjusting standards to the price charged, it is definitely one star material. The restaurant itself is full of plants and not attractive inside, although the downstairs bathrooms are nicer than you would expect. We sat in one of the booths initially. It wasnt very comfortable and then, weirdly, we both got very itchy. Dont know if it was some cleaning agent or bugs or something else, but the problem went away when we moved to a standalone table in the centre of the restaurant. We will try a different option in Etobicoke next time.
Lovely service and the food is great
I have a wheat allergy. I expressed this to the server, TJ, when I ordered and asked what I should order. She informed me about the menu according to my allergy. She even brought out gluten-free soy sauce. I was so impressed by the considerate service. Thank you, Toji
Terrific balance of quality and affordability! Loved the distinctive atmosphere too.
This has been my favorite sushi restaurant for over 10 years. The food is always fresh, and the service is great.
nice staff very friendly and lady of little words. food fresh
Great service and food was so fresh! Really enjoyed this local spot.
Sushi was good. Nothing out of this world but it does the job. I ordered the tempura yam and fried spicy salmon. They have a lot of options on the menu but a bit on the expansive side. I mean not really expansive but more than it should cost for an average sushi. It was indeed freshly made and soft. Another things that I liked is that its not those huge rolls that you can barely fit in your mouth. Just perfect size.
The sushi was very good. They need to improve the beef teriyaki.
Service was a little poor as I think they were short staffed
Absolutely delicious. Very friendly staff
Good food. Service a bit cold.
We ordered the medium Maki roll party tray and everything was fresh and delicious. The owner was so lovely and kind to us. We will definitely be going back here again
One of my favourite places to get sushi. Fast and polite sushi. Made my Mothers Day! I have always gotten my sushi here. Fresh. Tasty. Perfect size. Price is slightly expensive but so worth it. Fast without compromising the taste or freshness.
52 dollars for a small Maki platter. I have paid this price for good sushi before and had not complained. But this was just highway robbery. The pieces were beyond small. I was left hungry and upset after this purchase. Will definitely not recommend or ever eat here again.
Always enjoy noodle soups sushi overall great selection variety..
A very nice sushi place
Best sushi - always fresh, always consistent!
This place was awesome! Their sashimi was some of the best I ve ever had. Highly recommended
This restaurant is absolutely filthy the kitchen is so dirty, I couldnt even eat here not knowing what I saw passing by they do not clean their kitchen. I do not blame the kitchen workers, I feel the owner should tell their workers in the kitchen to clean it more. The owner I feel tends to ignore the customer, them not knowing I am also Korean, they would talk behind your back behind the register. Food quality I do not blame anyone whoever likes it, however, I do feel they should respect their customers more. Overall bad experience!
Maybe, the owner was changed. The sushi and sashimi were not good.
It was ok. Not sure if the food here made my stomach sick or not but it was ok... May not come back here.
Poor service. The four of us were served 3 pieces of cutlery and plates and tissue. This happened twice! Food is average. Despite requesting a separate serving of veg and non veg - everything was served in one tray. I would not recommend dine in at all
Very bad experience and long waiting time for the skip drivers . Even their staff is not cooperating good with delivery drivers.
Our favourite place for many years. Always super fresh fish, absolutely delicious, not covered in mayo or sauces. Once Toji were closed and we went to Momiji on Bloor which is fancy and more expensive restaurant. Not going back to Momiji! Rolls smelled like fish. Toji rolls smell delicious, no fishy smell AL ALL! People who write negative reviews are just unhappy in life because there s No Way an adequate human can rate this place low.
Average taste & quality, on the expensive side. Sushi and Sashimi dinner takeout. Better quality available at lower price from other places nearby.
Love the place! From the food to the service to the atmosphere of the place. We ordered Hae Mu Chim (raw fish salad) for an appetizer. The spicy and sour really kick the stomach. We moved next to the Lobster Tail Roll and Spicy Seafood Udon, and properly with the weather a bit cold outside, the udon was very heartwarming. The proportion was just right as well. The star of the show was Sashimi Dinner. With a lot more salmon than a normal one would be, the salmon itself was buttery, fresh, and fantastic. Alongside were tuna and whitefish, which were delicious too. Thank you the owner for taking us in last minute! We were pretty hungry in the cold weather. The service was still polite and welcoming. A must-try restaurant!
Over-priced
Chirashi lunch was tasty and put together nicely. Ordered through UberEats.
Delicious sushi, all fish is very fresh. Cozy place to meet with friends.
Fame to these guys twice now and both times I ve had an amazing experience with the kind customer service and the sushi is absolutely delicious and fresh. I ve been to other spots in Etobicoke and none really compare . These guys are quite good and again the young gentleman was kind enough to bring the food to our car after it was ready so we wouldn t have to wait standing up or outside. Will be coming here again and recommending to others.
Its with a heavy heart to post this. I just paid $71 for sushi that tastes just like something you would get at a convenience store or at a mall kiosk. It was a total disappointment and couldnt even eat it. So sad
Great spot for takeout sushi. Great portion sizes and it s really delicious. Service was always quick. You can t go wrong here.
Insanely good quality. You get what you pay for!
Toji Sushi is our favourite place in Etobicoke. Service is always good and staff are friendly. We are never disappointed with the food.
Only sushi place I go to in the area!
I really like toji but was really upset tonight to walk in and see the gentleman preparing the food was not wearing a mask at all. I understand the store is empty and you re behind a shield but you really shouldn t be leaning over peoples food without a mask, particularly because the food is not hot (covid can last on non hot surfaces). Anyways I do hope they change this, but I probably won t be back until this pandemic is over.
My family was extremely satisfied with Toji Sushi. We went in to order take-out, and everything was very clean, the staff were very kind. We ordered the Dinner Bento Boxes, and every single item in our order was fresh, warm, and delicious. The price is definitely worth it. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for high-quality and reasonably priced Asian food.
We have been going and now ordering take out from Toji i since it was introduced to us by a friend 5 years ago.I love the staff they are kind and professional. The price is fair for the quality and freshness of the food that you get, I truly appreciate to eat food that is prepared by people who enjoy making it and they DO NOT Handle the cashier at anytime but there is someone else taking care of it. I recommend this wonderful family business.
Great sushi! Delicious and nicely presented! My go to is definitely the rainbow dragon roll and the yam tempura roll :)
Great place for take out - excellent presentation, portions and taste. Definitely worth the price. The only place I want to go for sushi!
The food here is delicious ! My family has been coming here for years and it has changed ownerships a few times I believe but the food keeps getting better. Everything is presented so beautifully its hard not to appreciate the time that goes into the preparation, not to mention everything is always fresh and super tasty. Cant wait to come back again and again. Get the spicy Salmon sushi pizza, its my favourite.
They do a really nice job with party trays and are open every day so perfect for a last minute party . Ive had nothing but complements for the sushi and they have never disappointed me. Ive recommended to my friend and family who have had nothing but good things to say. Will post photos when I get my next order on Monday
Just the best. Been coming for over 5 years now. Can t go wrong with Toji.
Quality of maki rolls was not bad and staff was very pleasant, but I was pretty disappointed in the value as a first-time customer. A combo of 6 tiny rolls is not in my opinion worth $11.95... I didnt realize how small the small maki were. For $60 my family would usually have leftovers from our favourite sushi restaurants; unfortunately we were still hungry after spending $60 here.
Beautiful food and great service, thank you Toji!
Best sushi I have had in the GTA so far and consistently good, eat it once a week.
Tasty sushi, however pricing is extremely misleading. When googling platter 204 it was $95 but to my surprise when picking up, it was $141. When I called to order this, no one confirmed the price difference over the phone (on their new website vs their old menu). Would not go back based on extremely expensive pricing which was not communicated clearly.
Absolutely great. Such fresh fish, tempura equally fresh and delicious. Nice portions, good price, very cute place and great, sooo nice service! Will be back soon!
Best sushi in Etobicoke. I have been ordering take-out from Toji for the past year and have never been disappointed. The fish is always fresh and tasty and worth the higher prices for the quality.
Ordered via Uber Eats, waited two hours, then order was suddenly cancelled at 9pm. Friday night, hungry kids, no food...will never order from here again.
Best sushi in Etobicoke. We got a roll combo, it looked and tasted great. Fair prices, exceptional service.
Nice quiet place for late night dinner date nearby
Fresh and good price!
Great sushi! Cute restaurant
It wasnt my favourite. Great service but food it was ok.
Flavor just fine. Prices a little bit on the expensive side.
Both the food and service was ok.
Quick service, very friendly staff, and amazing food! If I could give it 6 stars, I would! Hands down the best sushi place in Etobicoke!
Ordered a sunomono salad and the fish was still frozen. That turned me off instantly. Also the 4 rolls we ordered were packed with mostly Tempura, felt like a filler. Just not my style. If you LOVE tempura loaded rolls, this is the spot for you.
It was so disgusting , sushi was very cold and very simple. it cost me 50 dollars to buy a party plate of 36 pieces and for them to give me 36 pieces of bad quality and cheap ingredients sucks never buy here again
their menu is really interesting. Yakiniku Donburi was cool. Edit: now they are out weekly sweet spot for the mountain roll (definitely try it) and the ramens
A hidden gem within Etobicoke. If youre looking to get a sushi craving full-filled and satisfied, this is the place for you. Its a small restaurant located near Kipling on Dundas st west, has a great ambience and very friendly staff. I usually come here as a treat, whenever I crave for great sushi. They start you off with a salad and miso soup which is a great touch to prep for the entree. Highly recommended getting the Toji Roll and Rockstar of the special rolls, as you cannot got wrong with either. Both will leave you satisfied. Been coming here, and will always come back for the delicious delicious sushi and sashimi.
Rarely you come across a place which exceeds all expectations - Tojo Sushi , by far hits all those marks when it comes to Sushi ! We were looking for a quiet place with great food and I must say - this is it. We were greeted as soon as we walked in , the staff is very friendly and Uber nice - along with our meal we were also given a great salad and some additional tasting options - A must try is the Toji Special Role with some spicy mayo. A true hidden gem in Toronto when it comes to sushi and if you are in the area a def place to check out !
Good food, the service is really welcoming and nice and the ambiance is super comfortable
Really enjoyed the sake and sushi combo, amazing place
Got a sushi takeout and I was not disappointed. The portions were generous and the quality of ingredients was good. I will be back for more! The pictures are missing a few sushi pieces that I could not resist eating before snapping a photo :)
Too much waiting
Good sushi!
Amazing sushi, and owners and servers make you feel like you have been friends forever
IMHO best sushi in the neighbourhood, and the Bento dinner is substantial and tasty
Very poor health and safety procedures. Used to be ok but do not trust these guys after COVID
Sushi didnt taste good at all, could tell fish sat a while. Low quality. Only reason giving it more stars is because they have good service and Gyoza was nice.
Ordered for delivery and was very impressed with the quality of sushi. All our food was fresh and delicious! Will definitely order again and highly recommend!
Used to be a good place. I am not sure if it s because of the difficult times or what... but I ordered a combo and when I got it I thought it was a joke. It looked like something from the bento sushi at the grocery. The taste was off and the rolls were so tiny!
Not sure about the food yet cuz I m still waiting on it if ur getting takeout and they tell you 30... no 40 mins call before you leave so they ll start making the food
Great sushi for the price.
This is my favorite local sushi place! Delicious food at a reasonable price.
Not good. I ordered 3 special rolls and paid double the price for a roll filled with cucumbers. When we told them we got the wrong order they said thats what you ordered. Dont reccomend . Rolls dont taste good.
Ordered a medium set. Really delicious sashimi. Love it
Fantastic restaurant with excellent prices for the quality food they serve. I look forward to ordering from here many more times in the future
Yum! Great service. Delicious! Thanks!
Good sushi, decent prices. A small place, but it was not as busy as the sushi place two or three doors down from this one. Friendly and attentive service, a la carte, not an all you can eat
After I tried hundreds of sushi restaurants this restaurant is not really a good sushi place. Food is very plain and not seasoned. Price is not cheap for the poor quality food. I really cant recommend it.
Great little sushi spot. Excellent service and quick. Meal was very fresh and delicious. Highly recommended.
Great food, good service! Dishes are tasty and beautiful.
great everytime. best sushi in etobicoke.
The level of detail was amazing. Great food... wonderful presentation.
Very interesting place!
This place has a standard really fresh sushi all the time. Decor is a little bit outdated.
Nice little restaurant with nice people and great sushi. A little expensive but well worth the experience.
Nice sushi. Try the spicy scallop & salmon roll
Fast, fresh and delicious. Friendly service and always inviting. We love it!
We have been coming here for sushi for 8 years now. I feel its time I reviewed Toji Sushi because of the great service & quality fresh sushi. We moved out of Toronto, but when we crave sushi, we make it a point of coming here because we are always guaranteed a great, fresh sushi dinner. The only regret is that we cant come more often! If youre looking for quality sushi, look no further, you wont be disappointed.
Good food and decent meal. Sushi were a little small and fish slices not that masterly cut. But a decent place.
Food is always great and the owner is super kind! The attention to detail is impeccable!
One of the best sushi restaurants in Toronto. Has been in Etobicoke for a long time. Generous and corteous hosts.
It was delicious and fast. Very calming vibe. The owner and staff are very friendly.
Love this place for take out and dine in. Food is always fresh and the staff are always friendly and treat me well.
Overpriced and overrated
Good taste and service.
Our go-to sushi spot. Staff and owner are super friendly!
One of the best sushi places around Etobicoke.
Suspicious place never ordered anything
Always fresh and tasty! We go there very often and never disappointed.
We have been eating at Toji for about 5 years. They truly take care of their customers and it is very much appreciated. The sushi is fresh and delicious with many options of specialty rolls. The family who owns this successful establishment care about their food and offer great customer service. I would highly recommend ordering from here!
Yum, good location
Vegetarian options are available but have to choose according to your taste. All my friends enjoyed the food and is not that expensive. Customer service is good. Nice ambience. Enough parking spaces. Clean and tidy. Well maintained. Lots of options to try.
Chicken Udon Noodles : )
Love their sushi! Service is great. Love the vibe. Highly recommend.
Wonderful hidden gem! Healthy sized food portions.
I love your rainbow dragon Best sushi in Etobicoke.
Great sushi and fast friendly service in an ok atmosphere
All the food is fantastic
