Food was good but customer service was very bad plus I got charged $4 to dine in . First restaurant in Canada that I ah e seeing charging when you eat there . It’s a big scam , I would preferred if the seller informed me first. I was going to get more food home but due to that I didn’t. As I already spent $8 extra for just dining in with my family.
Hands down…Best African customer service Every food item does NOT dissapoint, is always fresh & made with 💕 love! Benjamin treated us with such respect we will never forget! Thank you staff for making our days better!!
Disrespectful people she was mad because they messed up on my order and I called I don’t eat fish I’m allergic and I called in that night Issac told me I could get my order free next time I come for my order and she’s mad she had to refund me and told me not to come order food from here again ! Probably if you listen to your customer orders properly you wouldn’t be this grumpy Very bad customer service and rude how do you talk to your customers like this ? Will never buy in here again !
Their food is really good that's why I keep coming back. There is enough jollof rice to carry through for left overs the next day, but definitely not enough meat so it will be done. They keep raising their prices but advertise old prices which starts to make it not worth it. if you want to sit down and eat you need to pay a fee which makes no sense. They just seem like they want everyone to their meal and get out. They should just remove all their seats and do take out only if they can't provide the welcoming environment.
It might be due to my lack of exposure to many of the ingredients that the menu comprises of.. but, I would have to say the entire experience was "okay". The expectations of me as a guest and the restaurant as the host may have been unequal and/or miscommunicated. Would I try it again knowing what I do? Maybe. Was it bad? No. I would not say it was a bad visit or the food was not good. It was just different from what I imagined and expected everything to be like. I encourage everyone to always try everything at least once in their lives..
ATTENTION IF YOU ARE NOT FROM GHANA OR AFRICAN THE OWNER WILL TREAT YOU BAD AND TRY TO SCAM YOU AND CHARGE YOU EXTRA MONEY TO SIT DOWN AND EAT AT HIS RESTAURANT ! DO NOT GO HEAR IF YOU ARE NOT AFRICAN THE OWNER IS RACIST ! If I can rate this place, it would be zero. I am not from Ghana and I am not black skin. I went to the restaurant to order food. I used to come here a few years ago referred by a good friend of mine who is from Ghana I think it was different owners, the man who served me was wearing all gold , dark sunglasses and a bucket hat, he was the owner him and his son were working. I ordered my food one for my wife and one for me. I told him I would like to stay and sit in the restaurant as other people were sitting and eating , he told me it will cost me five dollars to sit down in the restaurant. Then he went into the back to get my food and I asked one of the other people eating there who are from Ghana and black skin. Did you guys pay to eat here? She said no ! She was upset at the owner for doing this to me , another guy said no as well Who was also from Ghana. Now when the owner came back, I asked him why are you charging me five dollars to eat here And did not charge the other people eating in the restaurant?? he asked me how do you know ? I said I know because your customers told me. He then said to me I give you free water I don’t charge you taxes and he did charge me taxes. I asked him a free water bottle? He says yes , it cost two dollars for 24 water bottles so then he told me to get out of his store and eat outside. I said thank you very much and I left. He was very rude and racist do not eat here and the food is expensive and not tasty like it used to be years ago. He will not last in the business scamming people.
First time trying Ghanaian food in Canada. I enjoyed my trip to Ghana so I was looking for Fufu and peanut chicken soup. I was a bit disappointed here. Chicken was not fresh & the dish itself was not as tasty as I expected. I was unable to finish. I gave 3 stars for service because the owner was friendly. however he did upmarket the price (don't advertise one price then charge the client another). I will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone and I will not be returning back. The restaurant itself needs a revamp and was not clean. there were blood droplets on my table. Overall disappointment and not good at all
What a gem of a little place, a little mom and pop restaurant. They have vegetarian options. I had jollaf rice with fufu and peanut soup. I asked for egousi but the young lady recommended the peanut soup and I'm happy I took her advice. It was a tad spicy, so it helps to wait for it to cool. The portions are large so it's a bit much for one person but you can pack it up to go. It would be nice if they had a combo. Nice atmosphere and very polite service. Dine is costs extra but it worth it to relax. I'd recommend you try this place and support local businesses.
Good vibes and food.
Right now i dont rate this Restaurant any more the people that work there are very rude if you arent Ghanain they treat you bad my self & my daugther we go there for there food for fufu & peanut soup the lady was rude to us she doesnt even know my daugther is mixed with Ghana in her so people if you go there and u aint ghana watch how the ladies talk & treat u
Container full of jolof rice with 5 small peices of meat.. Paid $18 for 90% rice. The rice was good but I cant eat 7 cups of rice... I think these ppl are racist. They treated me like I was unwanted. Meanwhile the African guy next to me being treated like a celebrity. I think they deliberately gave me 2ozs of meat so I wouldnt come back. It worked
Love the food. The place has been updated and cleaned up. Nice Ghanaian dishes.
Terrible customer service, there s one girl here very typical villager, not only me everyone is talking about her,she s rude and I don t know who she think she is she doesn t understand that some people are little bit indecisive and so as a customer care you ll need patience this girl has been rude to me just because I rang the bell and decided to change my mind .i wish she can dress up a little bit and go to other restaurants and learn how they treat clients food is 10 but I don t expect the owner to hire this village girl, this is Canada not Ghana people work hard for their money and it s 50/50 because you won t get paid if we don t come there so treat us with respect, fire her before you lose clients
Loved this place. Food is delicious and the staff members are very kind and welcoming. Definitely coming back!
The Jollof was terrible. Rice was pasty. Stingy on the meat and fish. Not tasty. I ve had a lot of different jollof but this one gotta rank bottom.
Loved my bank
I didn t get what I ordered
Lovely
Bad customer service. Their jollof is also subpar. They also charge for dining in. Unheard of
I ordered food with not beef because I can t eat beef they gave me beef so I came back and told them they messed up my order and if they can change it the man their said no what if I poisoned first of all I came 20 minutes do you not recognize that fact I said I DONT want beef and then you telling me I probably poisoned it s not my fault you got my order wrong either take back and gave my ACTAUL FOOD or I keep it and then get my ACTUAL FOOD asking as I got what I actually ordered so many times this happens they don t pay attention to orders if you do go check they got it right
I went to buy tuo zarfi and I don t even have a name of what they gave me. I have been so disappointed with them
1st time trying eating West African food and it didnt disappoint. The server was very helpful and made some great suggestions. Best was fufu and eguisi. So so so good and enough for 2!
Needs a total renovation in the dining area. Then the delicious food will match the whole experience of the place.
Food was good. Just had to stop eating because there was sooo much oil!!! Had to toss it out
Gold Tier food from the Gold Coast! Dont waste your money anywhere else. Quantity and quality in a package! Thank you!
Food is flavourful and consistent. I ve been purchasing food from here since 2018 and it s been the same. Don t watch the bad comments on google who either have their own preference or just hating. Best Ghanaian food in Toronto, hands down!
ATTENTION! ATTENTION! The food was not terrible, just too oily. Please be mindful when dining in, there is a dine in fee! Although the menu list a specific price, if you dine in - it turns out to be more. A dine in fee was NOT verbalized upon being seated, nor was it stated anywhere on a menu, or posted anywhere for that matter. If a dine in fee is applied, the restaurant needs to be transparent and upfront. They were sneaky. Major deal breaker, I will not be returning.
Good food Perfect services Food
Great Food and Great Customer Service
They really have better service, especially the workers. I really appreciate them anytime I patronize the food
Improvement needed. Poor customer service. Re-evaluate with a friendly approach towards customers. Cut out the attitude. Energy was off. Give your customers their best experience. The owner charged extra, more than advertised price for removing one thing out of meal. You guys can do better. Looking forward to seeing improvements
The food I bought here was really good I cant complain it was my first time trying it
Best African restaurant in Toronto
I love their food especially the waakye. The servers were very polite. The best African restaurant in GTA
I ordered the fufu + egusi with beef. Hit my craving SO GOOD, egusi was nice and a little sweet and had a good amount of oiliness. Beef was so flavourful and good side amount to complement the rest of the meal. Price was amazing for the portion and quality, and really friendly chill staff.
First time having West African food, it was absolutely delicious. We got the Fufu with Peanut Butter Soup, Jollof Rice, and Half/Half Jollof and Waakye. Everything was delicious, the portions generous, and the prices really good. The Fufu with Peanut Butter soup was my favourite, each portion is good for around 2 hungry people. Definitely recommend!
A must go Ghanaian restaurant. We visited Toronto from Vancouver, BC, craving for Ghanaian food , gave GG restaurant a try and we were not disappointed, came back the next day. Price was affordable. The customer service was exceptional. We tried many food on the menu, Including the Banku with peanut soup, red-red plantain and beans ,cooked yam/plantain and stew, all was the best, very delicious and very well made. Oh and the Talipa fish will melt your mouth. I would recommend this restaurant. Keep it up!
The best
Ordered Fufu and snapper with jollof rice, was amazing and huge portion!
Nice portion but youll know that taste of something thats not fresh sometimes like the fish and egg . Always beg or ask them for fresh stuff . They are trying. They need some improvement
I came here with my friends to have lunch and the menu says 35$ for the things we had ordered altogether however we were each charged 14$ which didn t make sense and when we asked for an explanation, he said the menu is takeout prices however on the menu it says in bold letters Dine In and he said that with service tax etc, it would add up to 42$. I don t have an issue with the change in price if it made sense but he upped the prices of the dishes by 3/4 dollars from the actual menu so it doesn t make sense. Food was decent, Jollof rice was good
Go to.
The Waakye is ON POINT here. Great services too, they do takeouts too but I dine in for the extra shito and Ghanaian music. The owners seem like lovely people too. I pass by whenever in the city. Thanks for the tastyyy waakye.
First time here. The food is tasteless. I expected good seasoned food. Very disappointed! Will not attempt to try anything else
I love this place, I love the atmosphere, the staff and the food is A1! I recommend waakye (pronounced waa-chay) with goat mean or fish. It comes with a boiled egg and friend plantain. All their dishes are great, I just enjoy the waakye! Parking: The plaza has a plethora of parking spaces even if not directly in front of the restaurant. Kid-friendliness: The owners are so pleasant along with everyone else working there. Some are shy, but friendly.
Excellent!
Very tasteless food pls do better the jollof has no taste u don t fill the ingredient is like colour and rice with sauce on top my first time and my last time pls get a good cook thank u
Jollof rice was tasteless. Felt like leftovers that was heated up. Egg had changed color and was also unsavory. Quite disappointing.
Loved it
Avoid this restaurant. I had an awful experience there, and heres why: Picture yourself heading to a restaurant, expecting to enjoy a meal, only to be informed that you cant dine in after your food has already been served. Furthermore, they didnt mention this additional $4 fee for dining inside before you placed your order. Does this situation make any sense? Im open to hearing others opinions on this
Amazing food, great service.
Very efficient service and friendly atmosphere.
They are ripping people off people should not waste their time going there. THIEVES
Very good food, always fresh. They listen to your detailed orders when you add notes. I will keep coming back as I appreciate there hard work making this flavourful food...thank you
Was referred to this place. Called to find out what was available. Spoke with a man first then he somehow handed the phone to a lady. I was polite and respectful and simply was asking what was available. After asking two questions she hung up. I called back, and was rushed to make an order because she was busy with other customers on the line. I asked her to be patient since it was my first time ordering since Im new in town. She hung up on me. I hate that type of service. And I heard a Pastor owns it. I wont be spending my money here.
Great food! Got the red-red and the peanut with banku+okra. Both were excellent wish this restaurant were closer :)
The last time I was here to get waakye was more than 5 months ago. The food wasnt dry and was watery. More like they didnt wait for it to be done and they were serving itq. Their cutlery set is no good either. It is that of a baby or better still a toddler. Went there again today and surprised it is the same old story. Watery oily waakye with their toddler cutlery set. Dont think I will go back there again or even advice someone to.
I really like the food here
Love their jollof rice. It s so moist and juicy just how I like it. Their portions are very generous, you always get your money s worth.
Over priced and over spiced food
Hands down best Ghanaian restaurant!! Love the banku the fufu love it all...medase!!
1. Appearance: 3/5 I ordered Egusi Sauce Stew with Beef and House Fufu. Unfortunately the packaging was not best, and some of the stew has spilled over the bag and top lid making everything extremely oily and messy. When I opened the lid first thing I noticed is how oily the egusi stew was, and it seemed like there was not much protein added. But the portion looked generous for both fufu and the stew amount. 2. Smell: 4/5 Even before opening the bag my house filled with the aromas of the egusi stew, it has a very distinct pleasant smell. Fufu is simple and has no smell. 3. Taste: 2/5 I m not sure what happened but the egusi stew was a bit too oily. Oily to the point where it was hard to dip my fufu as everything was sliding right off. Taste wise I found it to be ok, the meat was the best part, it was great! But unfortunately there was only 4 small chunks of meat there, really wish they added more considering there was a lot of stew itself. The fufu was a little bit sour but went well with the stew. 4. Texture: 3/5 Fufu was so nice and soft and doughy. The soup was smooth, but again a little too oily. The meat was well done and firm. 5. Temperature: 4/5 My food arrived hot, both the egusi stew and fufu were hot and fresh. 6. Flavour: 3/5 I liked it, I would give it another try. I just did not enjoy how it was too oily and the flavour of oil overpowered the delicious flavour profiles of the rest of the dish. Meat was marinated well, fufu was great. 7. Price: 3/5 The dish cost exactly fifteen dollars , and the overall portion is generous yes, but it seems like they cut down on the amount of other ingredients such as Beef for example. I was disappointed to only find 4 pieces and they were quite small, but it was delicious so please add more! I would give it another try if I m ever in the area.
This was my first time visiting the restaurant and unfortunately I must admit that I was disappointed. I have been yo Ghana and have many Ghanaian friends, the light soup was flavorless and tasted nothing like a Ghana dish. It was more watered down than anything else. I told the lady at the front desk that I dont eat beef and she still add it to the light soup. Secondly, the plantain was fries well, but needed a bit of salt or needed to be ripened a bit more to give it a sweet taste. Lastly, this is the longest review I have provided on Google and I really hope that the owner take my foolish advise. First impression is ever lasting and upon visiting the store was not well lit. Please open the blinds and allow natural light in. Secondly, organize and declutter dinning area. Move the fridge to the back so that customers can access bathroom area. Do not use the space as storage. I chose take out simply because the resturant did not look clean, but I wanted to support a local business. The restaurant is a bit far and I am still considering making a second visit. Lets see if improvements are made. Price for meals are expensive considering they cut down on ingredients and seasoning. Thank you!
Great sushi, better then most. The pieces are bigger as well so keep that in mind when you order.
THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE OMG. DONT GO HERE GO TO AFRO CONTINENTAL OR AFRICAN CHOP BAR. The foood is tasteless and the customer service is horrible. My friend and I ordered deihuo and it was absolutely trash. I told the guy and he basically told me that he didn t care and that I shouldn t order food from them if I don t like the taste. They also charge extra to dine in but they have nooo washrooms???? Does that makes sense???. They need to close this place down
The management has some horrible customer service! I d not recommend this restaurant save yourself the stress and head over to Afro continental instead. I ordered dieho and it was very tasteless and I was finding it difficult to enjoy the food due to this. Spoke to the male owner and he told me there s nothing he can do about it because he had it for lunch and he liked it and walked away. What kind of horrible customer service is this. I was also charged for dining there and I wasn t informed about that in the beginning. I ve never been to a restaurant and be charged for choosing to eat there, on top of that customers who pay to dine in aren t even allowed to use their washroom.
I ordered 1/2 jollof rice,1/2 wakayee I receive 5 pieces of very tiny beef cut in cubes. The taste wasnt great but the rice was plentiful. I also got fried yam and fish, menu say Snapper but I receive Bangamary fish that has no salt,it taste as if the fish was washed then fried immediately without a pinch of salt on it. I can never purchase food here again.
OMG the food is like fireworks in your mouth so flavorful it light up in your mouth the best ever!!!
Meal was delicious
i love it! authentic
I have been going here for years for their Jollof rice!! Friendly staff, and the rice and chicken is delicious.
I will be fair and say the portion size was good when it came to the rice but the waakye did not test like waakye, the shito was non existence I understand things are getting expensive and all but if you are charging more let the portion size remain as is with the side dishes. They even cut back on the amount of koko they give . The biggest issue for me was the waakye did not taste like waakye, this used to be my favorite place to eat waakye but I guess they changed the cook. I dont eat waakye often so when I buy I am always looking forward to the flavor and this one was questionable. I will not be buying from there anymore because money is hard to come by and what is the point of spending it if you are getting partial satisfaction. It sucks because this place was my favorite. O well
First time trying Fufu and was excited to try it. However, the customer service was horrible we came to ask for the owners opinion on what she thought was a popular choice to eat with the Fufu and we were met with a short reply and then when we asked a follow up question she said I have a lot of orders so you just let me know what you want when you re ready and then she walked away. Not only that, but once we were ready to order, she wasn t listening to us and we had to keep correcting her. Our order ended up being wrong and we got FISH eggusi stew instead of chicken. When we said thank you for the order before we left she Ignored us. Also the chicken from the Jollof rice was pink inside. So definitely not coming back.
Good food
Amazing place! Love the food and staff :)
Good food and super nice people! I recommend!! :))
LOVE THE FOOD!!!! Especially the fried yam and snapper. me and my sister went to go and try some African food for some nostalgia. the staff is very friendly and kind. this is the best family restaurant Ive been to. Hope other people see this so they can come and try it.
Delicious
Worst place food is over priced. The food was nasty and over sauce. The portion was small. And the manger doesn t seem to care. Don t waste your money so many African restaurants. For your buck. Dietary restrictions: Worst place too much salt and oil in their food. Worst place
What a disappointment. I didnt want spicy food and I asked him, is the food spicy? He tells me no. What a surprise it was spicy. They sell to sell. What a disappointment. I didnt want spicy food and I asked if the food is spicy. He tells me no. What a surprise it was spicy. They sell to sell.
I visited golden gate restaurant recently, come and see the renovations, they have a covid 19 prevention center where you wash your hands and sanitize before you pick up your food or make your payment. The place is nice, and their food is still delicious. Vegetarian options: You could get beans and plantains, yams and jollof rice. Veggies as well.
I love this mom and pop restaurant! The owners are very Covid safe with a hand washing station available at the front or hand sanitizer. The jollof rice with chicken is excellent and well seasoned. I d come back here in a heart beat
Friendly, warm, the fufu was amazing albeit spicy. Would recommend to anyone (and I have) but if you have a low spice tolerance, eat slowly!
I have been going to this spot for years now the food is so good the staff is super friendly I have never been disappointed the smell of everything the spices no matter where I have lived I will always travel to these guys for some real good african food i will continue going to these guys every chance I get only thing I would go into Toronto to get during this covid time that just shows how good their food is!! Thanks guys see you again soon
Great food and staff are friendly, we visit from Ottawa and eat there when possible.
The best I have ever had
Food is yummy. Staff are on point.
You cant go wrong with them. Its affordable and good portions and tasty
Edit: My waakye was so fresh today I had to come back and change my ratings. The food was soo good . Thank you
Good food!
Best Ghanaian food in Toronto
Best Ghanaian food in the GTA!
Amazing
The Jollof rice was AMAZING 10/10
egusi stew...yummy!!
The food reminded me of back home. Definitely will be ordering again.
Im in love with there food Plz more
Best African food in town

Their red red meal never disappoints
My favorite African restaurant
One of the best African restaurant in town.
I love this place. Small family owned business. Sells delicious Ghanaian food
great food and good service
Made a fun choice for takeout; tried the Golden Gate Ghanian restaurant and had a good experience. They offer choices that you just cant get at other restaurants, so if youre in the area give them your business and Im sure that they wont disappoint.
Good food
Unfortunately for me I cant rate this restaurant a Zero stars if I could, I would have gladly done so. This restaurant is one of the most dimly lit, run down looking establishment, the server took what felt like decades to greet/serve my friend and I. They have horrible customer service skills! Extremely Unprofessional management too! I will never refer anyone I know to dine there. If anyone is looking for an exceptional Ghanaian restaurant to dine at, go to afro Continental bar and grill the staff were warm with excellent customer service skills.
They re always kind to me and their food is good and affordable
Amazing tasting Ghanaian food, really feels like home made. The jallof rice is one of the best in the GTA! Really great staff and they give some of the best portions for the price of any West African restaurant Ive been to. Always try to stop by when Im on the area. Looking at some of the negative reviews all I hear is unhappy people that couldnt be pleased regardless if a red carpet was rolled out. Golden Gate, cant wait to visit again, mouth is watering already
Theyve always got my home cooked meal ready.
It was pleasant and the employers and employees are courteous. The environment is clean
The old man who helped me tonight was really rude. I dont understand why but he didnt understand what I was saying and assumed I said something else. Anyways I wont be coming back there if thats how they treat customers.
I love this place! I believe it is family owned and the entire family helps out. I love that because it gives it a loving family feel and you can taste the love in the food! Best jollof I ve tasted, meals are very full portions for good price.
Food is Delicious! Great quantity and nice staff
Coming to Golden gate for the first time last week was very refreshing. I have always loved eating Wah-chay and I definitely will be back for more. I will try the jollof but the Wah-chay definitely was amazing. Will try both next time I am there.
All the great food from the Motherland.
Authentic Ghanian food. Great people. Been going to this place for years. SUPPORT !
Really good food for the price
I went there for the first time today! The food was delicious and the customer service was great.
This restaurant has a variety of delicious African food - mostly Ghanaian. You can choose to eat in or take away. I saw a promotion in the restaurant about how you could end up eating there for a full year if you bought or sold property through the advertising agent. I liked that there was an option to pay in cash or card. I didn t like that they wouldn t take credit cards or a 100 bill. There is free parking in front of the premise but it is used by customers visiting the adjacent businesses as well. Limited room in the restaurant, better to take out if you are in a big group.
Real good African food and quite affordable. Would do with clearing the clutter on the counter though, looks too busy.
We order from here often and the quality is consistent. Peanut soup is amazing, always a friendly face. Great family business makes u feel at home,
Service was good, small portion of meat mostly rice
Great customer service and delicious meals
Excellent Service tasty food for its original culture.
the best restaurant
Food is nice and prices are very reasonable
Sumptuous Ghanaian dishes
Great food
Looks dirty
Food was amazing- got the fried yam , sauce and Tilapia
Ridiculously too pricy of a restaurant and difficult finding parking if you drive. Will not recommend to anyone.
Nice place to take a date or to go eat by yourself and think. A very simple place and the food is very good.
Always Greta food and amazing service
The best waakye Ive ever had. By far! Staff is always respectful as well.
Delicious food
Great food! Wish diehuo was served daily, sooo delicious. Only con is the place needs some renovating but the food is great!
Great west African foods, I really wish we could have the same in Ottawa.
Priscilla says this is an amazing restaurant... going to visit soon!
WORST IMITATION RESTAURANT EVER!! JESUS TOLD ME SO!!
Food is good and service is fast enough
Amazing food everytime
My favorite fried yam and fish joint

Went to Golden star for the first time today and those people can cook!!! So if you find yourself in Ontario and you want some great Ghanaian food? visit Golden star for a swell time!!!
Great food! Had the Banku and I was satisfied!
Good food
Ghanian food at its best and by the best. I felt at home there.
Authentic GH home cooking
Good price, great portions, excellent quality. Fast service. Recommended highly
Nice and polite service and the food is definitely a plus
Great customer service, delicious, healthy/nutritious food/menu. One of my favorite places to eat period.
Great food!! Tastes deliscious! Large portions! Welcoming atmosphere! Genuine and kind owners!
Great Afro food
Am Nigerian, however Ive been trying different Ghanaian cuisines lately. Friendly service, large portions and most importantly the food was amazing.... Very tasty. I ordered the Fufu and Peanut soup with ewe okro stew. My first time trying it and am hooked. Also appreciated the warm welcome and service. Highly recommended.
Lets go GHANA
Great option of Ghanaian dishes. Delicious and reminded me of being back in Ghana.
Exquisite Ghanaian food
The waakye is good and the jollof very good. But apart from that it looks really dirty the environment I wish they keep it a little tidy and the bathroom is worse so pls only order to go.
