Five well deserved stars! We enjoyed: Zuppa Del Giorno, Bruschetta, Garlic bread, Confit of Pear Salad and fried Calamari for starters. Dinner: Gnocchi Gorgonzola, Gnocchi Sorento, Chicken Parmigana and Tagliatelle Alfredo. Everything was so delicious 😋 Served to us by a friendly efficient waitress. Best Italian Eatery.
We came across Gente’s during a power outage a bit late in the evening when no other places in town would seat us. Gente accommodated us and made sure we ate well! We’ve been back a few times since and every time, the food is exceptional. So much so that when our wedding caterer left us in the lurch a few months before our wedding, we immediately thought of Chef Angelo at Gente’s. He curated our 30-person cocktail hour & buffet menu dinner to our requests (including gluten free & nut free options) and made wonderful suggestions. The wedding took place at our property and Angelo put together an ace service team. We were getting guest compliments all evening long about how delicious the food was and how great the service was (thanks Boris & Zoran). It was the best prime rib I’ve ever tasted. Thank you Chef Angelo for delivering beyond our expectations. We will be back for our anniversaries and any time we wish to impress family & friends.
Good experience in the summer. Good service by Boris and the outdoor location is nice. The food was okay, a bit run of the mill. Won’t wow you.
Absolutely incredible. We’re on a trip for our anniversary and stopped into Gente for dinner before heading back home. I’m a pesto girl so I got the pesto chicken penne. When I say it was an out of body experience, I mean it. SO GOOD. Goat cheese was creamy, pesto was strong, and the chicken was well cooked and tender! I will forever remember this place and recommend to anyone in the area! 10/10.
It was a wonderful experience: food, atmosphere, service! I can't wait to visit again! And try something different! This time , it was "catch of the day". I will recommend my choice for everybody. Will definitely bring my friends for a nice meal! I tried poached pear salad! If you want something light, exquisite, unexpected burst of flavours, try that! You won’t be disappointed!!!
Nice Italian eatery in the heart of Fergus, Ontario. We didn’t have a reservation but they were more then happy to accommodate us. We sat on the patio and it was just lovely. The servers were exceptional as was the food. I had the pasta and it was so authentic. Great atmosphere and we highly recommend. GO HERE!
Our group of 4 had the most pleasant meal at 4 pm on 2022-12-29. We appreciated our server Todd and his Australian accent and connections. Our table was indoors near the the front window of this Victorian home. Service was efficient and customer focused. Washrooms were immaculate. I had the delicious fish chowder and lobster ravioli. Our party had apple salads, salmon and pizza. Please see the attached photos. I highly recommend Gente Urban Italian Eatery.
Delicious meal and great service. We showed up without a reservation and were given a table in the courtyard. Lovely space and there was even a musician playing traditional Italian songs on an accordion. We had pasta carbonara and the mushroom/pear pizza. Both were excellent and we came home with enough leftovers for another meal. Food is all made on site by a very talented chef using fresh ingredients. I highly recommend this restaurant and we will return again- this time making sure we make a reservation first. Food, song, eating outdoors- true Italian experience We returned again in February 2023. Still as delicious as ever. Food, service, and atmosphere were excellent.
They did a beautiful job for my mothers birthday , party of 12 and it was fresh delicious and perfect . Thanks
Unfortunately came at 5pm and they turned a family of 3 down at the door. Reservations only. Not sure if I ll be going back.
Lets call this review, No, he wont. Because he wont. He, being the chef. What won t he do? Anything that would make a guest happy. My husband and I dropped in for a second meal nearly two years after our first. We had moderately acceptable, but just vague enough memories of our first dining experience here to take a gamble on a return visit. $168 dollars and many regrets later, here we are, composing a Google review. It took quite some time to place our order, and about the same amount of time to find the wine we ordered. We took the opportunity to stare into each other s eyes while thinking about the good old days of Prohibition. The wine a $49 Pino Grigio, was nice. But it wasn t nice enough, nor did it pack enough punch, to prepare us for the travesty that was about to follow. I should have got sloshed. Like a pair of love-struck fools, which we are, we order the most expensive appetizers the deep-fried calamari, and the crab cakes. For mains, hubby orders the seafood pasta in a marinara sauce, and I order the lamb. Things rapidly spiral downhill from there. Bread was meh and it came with a roasted red pepper spread. I hate roasted red pepper. So I did not eat it. Usually, Italian restaurants provide olive oil. But not here. I m not sure if cardboard is a species of calamari, but whatever specimen took a long journey from the deep sea to end up on my husband s plate, it lost all of its flavour and texture along the way. It must have been exhausted. The inclusion of cornmeal in the bland, unseasoned batter made for a gritty AND tasteless experience. The calamari desperately needed salt and seasoning. Two crab cakes, paper thin and the diameter of hockey pucks, were browned to the edge of blackness. The tasteless patties barely held together. Both the calamari AND the crab cakes were served with some kind of a red-pepper mayo. Did I tell you I don t like red pepper in things? I certainly told our server. I asked, very nicely I might add, for some mayonnaise, you know, the kind a person who doesn t like red pepper I know you re out there too would ask for. We are legion. But this isn t a restaurant for that kind of person or any other kind of person with a request. My server responded, No, he won t. She had clearly heard these kinds of requests the kind that real people make before. I was out of luck if I wanted to eat something that satisfied my palette. Too bad for me - and apparently anybody with a food allergy! Hubby s pasta was OKish. Verdict on the sauce, Not bad. Keep in mind my husband is a chef with 20 years experience in fine restaurants and hotels. OK is OK. Verdict on the crab cakes and calamari Oh my god! No flavour whatsoever and whatever flavour there was was bad! Did I tell you we agree about most things? My lamb tasted like lamb, which is not a bad thing, for me. Some people would have found it too lamby. I ate it all. However, the mess of vegetable it was served with, potatoes, a few tiny bits of broccoli stem, and LOTs of you guessed it red peppers, tasted entirely of red pepper. I could not eat it. Alas, we did not stay for dessert, having already been served the just version of our own. No, they won t. No, they don t. And no, we won t be back. Ever.
They were really kind with my family and I, and the food was awesome. We ordered a baked pasta, a risotto and a salmon with vegetables and the quantity and the flavor were really good. Id like to emphazise the attention and gentleness of the staff. I would love to come back there!
Sooo disapointing.. came for the pizza, and was absolutely terrible. Little Caesars would have been better. Heck, DiGiorno would have been better. Crust (was it Pillsbury?) sauce, spicy sausage, cheese.. all below sub par. Pretty sure the garlic bread was a day old dinner roll doctored up. This was my 2nd visit, pasta on 1st visit was just ok, nothing to write home about. It s not an Italian restaurant, they don t even know what a Negroni is Pass on this place, you ll thank me. Waste of money. Several better options in Fergus and Elora.
2 people for dinner shouldn t take 21/2 hours from arrival to check! The waiter needs to try a different profession totally overwhelmed and confused. Needless to say we won t ever be back. Food is actually good what a shame the evening was spoiled by incompetence by a staff.
I ordered take away this evening. They were busy ,I am guessing on the patio because inside was pretty empty. So it took a while. I was very disappointed by the portion size of the crab and lobster cakes, very thin and very over cooked. I was tempted to bring them back but was already home.
Intimate little place. Food was remarkable. The brie appetizer and veal parm were outstanding.
Dietary restrictions: Angelo is wonderful with working around your dietary restrictions He is an excellent chef and it s a pleasure to dine there. I ve been going there for years. Food
Always an amazing time - the chicken pesto penne is to die for!!!
We were in Elora for the day. I found this restaurant in Google. We had no reservation but we got in. Daniele our server was very pleasant. We had a great meal for a reasonable price. If in Fergus you should try this restaurant.
the overall service deserves just 1 because our order was very late (around 1 hour waiting time); however, 1 extra is assigned for the kind effort of our service staff. clean WC. no parking
Had a late dinner with a girlfriend on Friday night. We were seated on the patio and the atmosphere was amazing. There was live music as well. Our waiter was great, seeing we had everything we wanted and checked on us regularly. We shared appetizers of calamari and grilled shrimp. The calamari was coated in polenta/corn meal and was super crispy, yet the calamari inside was teder. The shrimp was served with gremolata, and was very garlicky (which we both love) I had the daily fish special of pan seared trout with grilled shrimp and it was delicious. My friend had the veal parm, and she was equally impressed. The waiter was knowledgeable about the wine list and we loved the pinot we had.
A regular go-to for my wife and I. The food is consistently delicious and we ve never had a disappointing meal.
My daughter and I stopped in for lunch today and were extremely pleased with the meal presentation and food taste/quality. Rasa was our server who did an excellent job, providing guidance and answering questions we had about the meals. I would highly recommend Gente Urban if you are looking for real tasty Italian at a reasonable price.
Not a good experience whatsoever it is small cramped and dated we were seated at a table facing the corner I had a 42 dollar striploin meal it was barely chewable full of fat and came with a tiny potato and one piece of broccoli would not recommend
I hate to put such a poor review as I want to support local and live around the corner, but I have never had a good experience. The food takes forever to be prepared, the wait staff are super aggressive, the food has ALWAYS made me sick and after 3 tries, have decided not to go again. Its a shame because it could do so well!
This was my first time writhing a review for a restaurant and alI got to say is the food is outstandingly good. Each dish was meticulously prepared with fresh ingredients. While it might seem that the prices are in the higher end the quality of food and service justifies the cost. This is definitely a place I would recommend for special occasions or any time you want to enjoy excellent food in a lovely setting.
Service slow...not enough hands. Pasta (lemon, cheese-filled ravioli) just warm. Good beer choices and friendly setting.
Enjoyed our take out meal. Cesar salad was amazing- a true garlicky, lemony salad with extremely fresh lettuce and nice croutons. Hit the spot. The pasta was lacking in flavour a little bit- I m sure some in house parm would have brought it up to par. Perhaps send small containers of parm with takeout orders. Dessert was great. Will definitely be back
Great little restaurant. Excellent soup & salad.
Arrived at 5:30 with reservations for a birthday celebration 6 people. Waiter was great. A couple arrived next to us after we got our drinks. Waiter took their food order before ours. The couple finished their meal before our food came. We were their for 1.5 hours before our food arrived. One of our party had to leave before eating to make an appointment. Questioned the server on why it took so long and he said they had a bunch of take out orders. Unbelievable to put take out pizza before a large party that ordered full drinks and a sit down meal. Very disappointing. We are locals and will not be back and will not recommend.
Great atmosphere great food, small cozy local restaurant, I will go back definitely
New Sunday morning Brunch was to die for!! Steak and Eggs Benedict with a Misosa!! Can t wait to go back again!!!
The food and atmosphere were absolutely amazing! 100% will be back! The food was by far the best Italian I have ever had in my life. Fresh, homemade and full of flavour! Literally the only downside was the service was lacking, that maybe because it was a busy evening but, having worked in the industry myself, it could have been better. It wont stop me from coming back.
Such good authentic food! Menu has good variety. Service is wonderful. Prices are very reasonable. We really enjoyed our relaxed night out and cant wait to go back when the outdoor patio is open (its a bit cramped inside if theyre busy).
Terrible experience. We did not have a reservation but we were told we can get seated in 15 minutes. We got seated after 40 min. The server forgot to hand our order to the kitchen, I had to remind her, we had the entree 50 min after we got the table. We had the food an hour later. My young one was in tears! The worst experience ever.
Too crowded. Very loud. We couldnt have a conversation with our guests. Food was bland. Waitress, however, was friendly and attentive.
A beautiful restaurant with amazing food and friendly staff!
Will be back! Great service great food.
We had such an amazing experience having 14 of us all completely Loving all the food and appetizers. The Atmosphere was so relaxing and the service was 10 out 10. Thanks so much for making our daughter s Birthday so special.
Very small venu with cozy seating, but so sweet and romantic. Wonderful wait service...our server was so friendly and attentive, answered all our weird questions and laughed at my sad mom jokes (thats a huge plus). Food was excellent, and prices were incredibly reasonable for the quality of food. We had veal scallopine limone and lobster ravioli....sauces were well made - not overwhelming the other flavors but so tasty. I could have licked my plate clean! Well certainly be back to try more on the menu!
Ive eaten here twice in the last year and both times, we were accommodated without reservations, our servers were lovely, and the food was truly delicious and fresh-tasting. During our second visit, we did wait a little longer for our entrées, but everything seemed made to order. Its quaint, friendly and I enjoy that the specials seem to change often enough. Will be back again. Cheers!
Went there this weekd and wow, this place is fantastic! Everything on the menu (even regular items) taste amazing. Absolutely recommend this place. Wish I knew about it sooner. Easily one of the best quality restaurants around. Will definitely be going back. This is easily the best other Italian place in town.
Great people and amazing food!
We had an amazing time at this restaurant. The live music on Valentine s Day made the experience phenomenal. The food was hot, fresh and delicious. I highly recommend this Italian Restaurant, would definitely come back again!
Very disappointed. My partner and I came here for a special Valentine s Day dinner because they told us they have gluten free options. When we got there they had a different menu than their usual one. The waitress seemed to understand that me having celiac disease meant I needed to eat gluten free and informed me all of the pasta options were gluten free. However, after waiting over an hour for our food, it was not celiac safe. I spent the rest of my Valentine s Day on the bathroom floor. Dietary restrictions: They provide gluten free options and reduce their sauces without the use of flour but it still was not celiac safe.
We have been going to Gente for years. We love the atmosphere! It has an intimate atmosphere. The food is consistently delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant. Charlotte and Quentin Food
Food was really good, our waitress Elvira was friendly and attentive. Excellent night out.
I love this place!
Absolutely the best Likes Nonna s cookin but it s Angelo Food
Always an amazing experience here! Food, atmosphere and service is top notch! 10/10
Highly recommend, food and atmosphere were amazing. Everything made fresh and in house, 10/10!
The food is always first class
Small, intimate setting for Italian Food, would recommend this place hands down.
Came here to celebrate a birthday. The food and service were top notch. Everything was cooked to perfection and portion sizes were perfect. We will definitely be back. Vegetarian options: Excellent vegetarian options
Taste if Italy in our own backyard For a couple of foodies this place is a gem of a find. Delicious homemade pasta, rich flavors and a broad menu make this a wonderful dining experience. Great service and friendly staff ...five stars
Loved the food!
We were just traveling through town and tried this place because we were staying nearby. It is a very nice little restaurant with fantastic food. The price point was excellent as well - I don t know how they do it?
Had carbonara which tasted so good, one of the best Italian food I ve ever had! The waitress is also super friendly and sweet. The free appetizer bread tasted great, served with a ?cheese sauce that was strong but surprisingly very tasty combined with the bread.
Friendly service and delicious food! A gem for sure. Both pick-up and dine-in has never disappointed.
I enjoyed the bread served before the main meal and the cioppino. Paula attended to us and it s an excellent service.
Amazing!! Good food, people and Angelo is just superb!
Disappointed... called ahead last week and placed an order for pick up. They said 6:10pm it will be ready. I arrive at 6:15pm, food isnt ready until 6:35pm. (It was a pizza and pasta) I left and realized there was no cutlery, I went back in and she had to ask 3 different people if they had cutlery, this took another 5 min to find a fork and a knife. I rush out back to work and get to work to realize they didnt give me my drinks, I drove back again and waited another 5 min for my 2 cans of coke, offers me 3 for my inconvenience... and of course they were WARM... and cost me $3.25 each!! For a can of pop. I finally got to eat my meal and was mediocre and definitely not worth 50$ Reviews seemed good however service is terrible, atleast for take out. Very unorganized place, will not be returning. Reply: isnt it normal practice to offer cutlery for take out? Again, no napkins nothing. You guys really need to step it up, bare minimum at high prices.
Great food and service! One notch down from fine dining. Business casual dress. Shorts ok.
We had an excellent dinner here. The food was delicious and the service was great. An added bonus was the amazing accordion player.
My husband and I tried this gem of an Italian restaurant last evening. We didn t have a reservation, but although busy, we got a lovely table overlooking the bay window. From our friendly and very efficient waitress, Jordan, to their wine selection onto our delicious main courses, Ceasar Salad, Gnocchi Gorgonzola for me, Ceasar Salad, Spaghetti and meat balls for my hubby. Our meals, accompanied by delicious home made bread was absolutely delicious!! Kudos to Chef Angelo!!! We can t wait to try your Sunday brunch!! We will definitely be back (with reservations) for a Friday evening for live Italian accordion music to add a festival Italian flair to accompany another 5 start dining experience!! Bravo!!
Had reservation for 6 Friday. Arrived on time. Was seated. Brought a bottle of water. Ordered our food at 615. Caesar salad arrived at 6:15 pm. Our chicken parmigiana arrived at 715. An hour to wait for dinner. Spoke to others and they all had the same comment. One couple arrived at 5. Did not get out of there till after 7. So. The food is good. Service so so. If not in a hurry and want to kill a couple of hours. This is the place to go. Also. There was a guy running around in a white t shirt. Looked like he worked all day in construction. Then worked here. He took orders. Cleaned tables. Knocked over a few things at different tables. Not sure if we will go back.
The food was amazing. No complaints at all. The service was very good and high-end. It is fancy but not too fancy.
Never been to Italy but I m convinced Gente is the real thing! Scrumptious every time we have been. Love Sunday Brunch!
I dont understand the rave reviews. We *really* wanted to love it here and felt giddy when we arrived. Small, family-run restaurants in old houses are generally the best and tend to be our very favourite. But from the moment we walked in, it was a bit of a disaster (boxes and deitrius piled to the left of the front door, a mop leaning against the wall to the right, table for two next to where we eventually dined with a laptop, various papers, and other office supplies strewn all over it; it felt very disorganized). Despite having a reservation, we stood and waited over 10 minutes for a table. No big deal! We were happy and smiling. These things happen. The one server complained to us that they were overbooked and he snapped at the only other server to help him clear tables. Its awkward for customers when staff is bickering in front of them and theyre made to feel like a burden. The older gentleman server seemed very flustered and unhappy. We were seated in the corner of the room and given tepid water in a glass bottle and were left for 40 minutes - no menu, no drinks taken, no bread served, no apology or be with you in a moment, not even any eye contact. After about 25 mins, I tried in vain to get their attention with a friendly hand wave and an excuse me, but it was as if we didnt exist. It was so strange! We talked about leaving, but had been looking forward to trying this place while on our staycation babymoon (we live in town). We were going it could become our new go-to dinner date spot as its within walking distance to our home. So we really wanted to give it a chance and were willing to overlook the slow service. Were reasonable people and get that everyone has off nights and makes mistakes. We were finally able to flag down the server and to kindly tell her wed yet to see a menu. To her credit, she apologized and explained that she thought wed already ordered. After ordering, the appetizer did come fairly quickly (bruschetta was tasty, but I was surprised to see dehydrated parsley on the tomatoes and on the rim of the plate. This was true of the store bought complementary bun that was fancied up with oil and dried oregano, too. Even as just an enthusiastic home cook, I always use fresh herbs, especially for finishing touches). The server forgot the wine, but remembered after our entrees were served. Again, she was friendly and apologetic, which helps when service is lacking. We had the veal scallopine and tagliatelle rustica. The veal scallopine was tender and the vegetables were nicely cooked. The fresh tagliatelle was enjoyed, but the veal was tough and the sauce was bland. We both agreed both dishes could have benefited from some more seasoning (freshly ground pepper is offered in addition to powdered parmesan, which we accepted, but there isnt any salt on the table). Were not sure if we both just ordered poorly or what? Maybe we chose the two least popular dishes on the menu? It did seem the other diners were drinking quite a bit, so maybe that accounts for the good reviews about the food? Or maybe it was just an off night for both kitchen and serving staff? They did have an outdoor private event and another large table indoors. Were not sure well try it again as we spent over $90 for one starter, one glass of wine, and two mains and didnt have an enjoyable meal. After reading many good reviews, we were really disappointed. Usually, when service is poor or slow, something is done to make it right; perhaps a complimentary glass of wine or dessert. That sort of thing makes such a difference to the diners overall feeling about their experience. But this wasnt done. The evening was somewhat saved by the musician playing the accordion and belting out Italian tunes. It was incredibly charming! This really added to the atmosphere and was the only part of the meal that was memorable in a good way. If you go, Saturday night is the night to go as thats when they have live music, which was a saving grace.
By far the worst experience Ive ever had at a restaurant. I cant even blame the waitress for not coming around because at one point she actually said its just how it goes here. We waited 1.5 hours and we just couldnt wait anymore. All we received while waiting was the complimentary bread and one of the apps we ordered. We ordered a bruschetta and mussles. The mussles didnt even come out the same time as the bruschetta. Super disappointed because the bread was good.
wonderful
just amazing
loved absolutely loved everything about this place
Parking: We stayed near by Food
Fabulous Italian food, made from scratch. Lovely, friendly atmosphere. We had Elvira as our server and she was wonderful, friendly and very accommodating. Highly recommend. July 2023
Service is superb! Our friendly waitress was so helpful and accommodating. The food is one of the best Italian restaurants Ive even been to in Southern Ontario. They make everything in house with the freshest ingredients. Their tomato sauce is to die for. Youll need an extra order of garlic bread to sop it up. The atmosphere is what you would expect, pictures of famous Italian cities, bottles of vino pouring freely, authentic Italian music playing in the background. Also not over priced for the amount and quality of food you get. Scozia down the street should take some lessons from the chef at Gente.
Hubby and I found this great authentic Italian restaurant and the food is amazing. We are Italian and the food is authentic and made by Angelo the chef and owner! Lovely man with a passion to cook authentic Italian food. Hubby and I will be back! Dietary restrictions: I can t have black pepper and they accommodated!
Parking: Lots of street parking and free lots. Food
Visited Fergus first time to enjoy the taste of Gente Urban as kids asked for Italian food during long weekend. We were amazed by the hospitality, quality of food and service with love & smile. Thank you Angelo, Shelby, Jakob & Hunter
The best Italian restaurant in town. Thank you Chef Angelo
What was to be a celebration of a special birthday started out well. Friendly, helpful wait staff ensured that the physically challenged birthday guest was able to access the patio table easily. A 6 p.m. reservation, orders in by 6:15 and still waiting for our dinner at 7:45 - eventually arrived at 8:00!! This would seem to indicate an incredibly unprofessional and/or incompetent kitchen putting the unfortunate wait staff into the impossible position of trying to ensure us that we were not forgotten - our waitress apologizing several times and indicating that everything is cooked from scratch using traditional family recipes . > >>> A guest commented, at one point, that hopefully all s well that ends well and that the food would be incredible! Not so! It was at best mediocre and certainly not worth the wait or the frustration. The explanation for the over the top long wait did not make sense - even we know that it does not take over one and three quarter hours to cook a veal scaloppini or salmon fillet even using traditional family recipes . If that is going to be the wait time for a basic meal then this restaurant seriously needs more professional organizing and prep time.
We always order our pizza from Gente. But what we got tonight was burnt dry and NOTHING like there usual Margarita Pizza. Grrr
This was the worst dining experience I have ever had, and we go out to eat 3-4x a week. We came here for dinner on a Sunday evening and as you ll see in the photo, there was only one other table with guests (+2 tables on the patio). When we arrived, we were seated, however from there it went downhill. Our waiter kept promising that he would come over to take our orders, and once 40 minutes had passed, we finally got to place drink orders. Realizing he had taken a long time to do even this, he offered to put an order in for our kids to get them fed, which we appreciated (at first). The problem then was that he didn t take mine or my husbands orders until the kids food arrived. We placed the orders and my husband heard the cook tell our waiter that it would be 20 mins to cook our meals and for us to pick something else off the menu. The waiter came by and didn t mention this at first, but about 15 mins later decided to finally tell us that it was going to be awhile. At this point our kids were done eating, so we asked if he knew what we could expect for timing for our meals (politely). He went back to the kitchen to ask and we heard the chef tell him that if we didn t like the timing then we could go across the road to eat. I couldn t believe what I heard, as we had been very patient and understanding and there was absolutely no justification for this kind of comment. I told the waiter that we heard what was said and at that point were just going to pay the bill. So $55 later, our kids shared one meal, and we had some beverages. As a business owner I m still in disbelief at the service, especially when there was literally no one there. I can t imagine what it would be like here if they actually had full tables.
Absolutely the best Italian I ve had in years! The mussels, crab cakes, pizza and shrimp pasta were phenomenal. Friendly and attentive staff and the people who dined there were also the same. Would highly recommend for a date or night out with the family.
An incredible dining experience! Highly recommend.
The food was great as always and the staff are super friendly. Would highly recommend 5/5!
The service was amazing, our server Elvira the manager (top notch)
A cozy restaurant with incredible food and very friendly staff. Do expect a long wait for your food, we placed our order around 6pm and it took about 30 minutes to get our garlic bread order, and another 40 minutes to get our main courses.
Fabulous food, warm atmosphere, and friendly staff made for a wonderful dining experience!
Service can be a little slow but the food is amazing. Highly recommend the gorgonzola pear gnocchi!
The food was amazing, and the service was awesome
Dine In, Fantastic Service!! Excellent food, wonderful community atmosphere. Highly Recommend. Food : 4/5
We had an amazing dinner at Gente! The food , service, and experience was phenomenal!! Highly recommend!!
I ordered the pepperoni pizza. Save yourself some money and go to pizza pizza. Tastes the same and will feed 4x more people. Was told our take out order would be ready at 630. Showed up at 640 (after reading takeout reviews) and food was still not ready. Was told a couple minute. 20 min later the food was ready. Hate to bash a local business but this is my second disappointing experience here
Amazing pizza!!
Food was excellent
Extremely good food! Very nice place I would make reservations! Its not very big! But it was really nice!
Cozy little Italian place...food was very good
Authentic Italian cuisine, beautifully refined classy interior decoration, and lovely patio, which occasionally features live entertainment and classic Italian serenades with interactions to make you laugh and smile. Very clean and sanitary and well kept. Incredible salmon, the fettuccini Alfredo boasts a light creamy deliciousness. Beautiful experience, always fantastic.
The bruschetta was excellent, the pasta fantastic and they had a great wine selection( we got a very good riesling). Had a wonderful experience, looking forward to when the patio opens up!
Love the owner, and his staff. The food is delicious every time.
The pepperoni pizza was delicious an the gf loved her fettuccine alfredo
This place has so much charm and patrons and server have lots of personality. Always a favourite of mine when passing through town. Much thx Good for date nights too!
A warm and friendly place for a Friday night dinner. Food was well prepared and fresh.
This is a friendly, heart-warming, and authentic restaurant in a class of its own in Elora-Fergus. It gets low points on the trendy b.s. meter, and high points on a place with authentic cuisine, owners and staff who are obviously passionate, and live music to complement the full experience. We just had an unforgettable night with our 3-year-old who they sang to and smiled with. We felt like part of the family. Gente Urban Italian Eatery just took top prize and set the bar for us!!!
More like Urban Italian Cheat-ery. Food was subpar and not worth the cost. Took 25 minutes just to get water to our table, 40 by the time we ordered. They were out of mostly everything and I had to change my order 4 times to compensate for their lack of supply. Sauces tasted like they were out of a can, onions werent even sautéed, the brie appetizer was literally from M&M Meats, and the Gin mustve been the cheapest turpentine they could get their hands on. Will be the first and last time we eat here.
This is top notch Italian food. Incredible Caesar salad, best gnocchi Gorgonzola I ve ever had and the crispiest-most delicious pizza. Our server Aerie was amazing and chef Angelo cooked everything to perfection! Highly recommend and we will be back!
Very disappointed. Service was painfully slow, took an hour and a half for four people to get food, strongly considered leaving after an hour of waiting. Drink was extremely over priced, $8.50 for a rye and ginger ale, no ice and was practically warm. Food was not worth the wait or price. Unfortunately we will be returning nor do we recommend.
The service was slow. There was a black hair in my Caesar salad and seemed to be mixed in the dressing. They took it away and brought me a new one. The chef said it isn t mine, my hair is too short, really! Wasn t mine either and no apology and no discount or even an attempt at a free dessert or anything. My second time there and won t be back. I have had way better Italian food at other places. It made me feel sick!
Enjoyed a lovely meal with my family, we were a group of 12 the food was amazing. Very large selection of Wine. Service was great. We will be returning. 10 stars to Gente Italian Eatery
This is a Fergus Gem. Place is very cozy, Food is absolutely delicious ( we had appetizers and veal parm), service was great. Will be back!
We went to Gente to celebrate my birthday, and it really was a five star evening. We sat on the patio, which was nice and lively with almost all the seats taken. We started with calamari and crab cakes and they were both delicious.I had ribeye steak which was a special that night and my husband had fish stew ciopino. Both dishes were superbly cooked .After owning an Italian restaurant for 17 years,I appreciate when someone puts so,much effort and love in their food. We met the chef,Angelo and that was really pleasant experience. We shared the glass of wine with him(Ripasso)and talked about restaurant business and food. You really can tell that he is a master chef, not only in knowledge but what he presents on the plate.I cannot recommend the place enough.Absolute gem in little town of Fergus,it really is worth the drive!
FOOD WAS SUPERIOR, SERVICE GREAT, AMBIENCE REALLY NICE, WE ATE OUTSIDE ON THE PATIO. AND WE HAD DINNER with 2 GREAT FRIENDS, LIFE DOESNT GET ANY BETTER!! Dietary restrictions: All foods prepared fresh and there are a lot of options. Parking: On street parking is very close. Wheelchair accessibility: If youre good with the weather, you can sit outside on the patio. If not ,not accessible.
Great little old house converted into a lovely Italian restaurant in downtown Fergus. Great homemade fresh food served with love. The service was amazing by our charming server. The patio has a very nice setting with soft music playing during your meal.
Food was wonderful Best place to eat in Fergus!!!!
We stopped here for dinner, no reservation. The gentleman came out of the front door and informed us they had no room, but the patio was empty. He eventually came back and told us we could eat on patio but had to be out by 630 (it was 5pm) because of a reservation. We had just finished eating our food - ceaser salad was delicious - and he brought out the bills without asking. We asked if we could see a dessert menu to order something for takeout and were told no. He said that takes time and a table was coming for 630. Felt like we were an inconvenience and had to rush our meal. When we were leaving a musician came and started playing. Felt like we werent allowed to enjoy the experience because we were being pressured to get in and get out.
Never disappoints! Amazing food and ambiance. Highly recommend
As usual prompt friendly service top notch cuisine, my favourite local restaurant. Great chef, great atmosphere
Chicken parm was good. Not full though after. Would go back again.
So cute restaurant with extra delicious food! Best of the best!
The most wonderful place in Canada! Excellent food and excellent service!! Pasta, calamari, desert, music... 10/10
OMG we had such a great time with our girls night out! Our waiter was a lot of fun! Also the accordion guy was awesome! He played Bon Jovi Living on a prayer we had so much fun sing with him! The food was delicious! Everyone enjoyed their meals! We were there on a Tuesday and I remember the waiter saying the accordion player is there on Saturdays too! What a gem for Fergus to have!
A great dinner! Best Caesar salad around. Quaint restaurant with good service and an authentic Italian trattoria feel. My veal a limone was excellent! Well be back.
Had a delicious penne Al vodka and bread. So yummy. The caprese was delightful too The chef is quite charming
This place is a secret charm in Fergus. The staff are so personable and authentic. The food is incredible . The Ciopinno is a total winner. You will not regret this place. Authentic sauces and food. Love this place
Food was not nearly as good as it used to be.
Warm atmosphere & wonderful food....dont drive by. You wont be disappointed!
Had a great dinner here with The wife and 2 kids. Will be back!
My god oh my lord the food here rocks, from the pasta to the pizza and everything in between its high quality food and the service is superb all staff is well dressed and snazzy oh and dont forget the amazing canolis all around a great restaurant in an old town.
Yum! Nice atmosphere. Great service
Food was excellent, always a large selection and is very good regardless of what you order.
Thank you for another delicious meal and for accommodating the dietary needs (gluten-free) of our family!
Good quality food, good friendly service.
We have been enjoying Gente since they have been in Fergus. Today was my husbands 65th birthday and our first choice was Gente. An absolutely delicious dinner as usual. Thank you Chef Angelo and staff.
Great food..nice place and atmosphere
Excellent meal and excellent service.
Very tasty food, highly recommended.
6 STARS, where to start? :) How about with the incredible man who took my order over the phone with such happiness, and then made my evening even further with his kindness towards me upon picking up my food! And to the crew in the kitchen - we had the Farfalle Pesto and the Spaghetti Carbonara, along with some Bruschetta, it was all so delicious, I will recommended and I will return!! Absolutely BEAUTIFUL food!! Thank you from myself and Hailey :) Now, to anyone staying at the Air BNB above the restaurant - the first thing you will notice before you even reach the top of the stairs will be the amazing smell coming from the vents. It made our mouths water instantly, and yet the food still blew us away when we tried it!! Eating here was one of the main highlights from our 3 night stay in Fergus this past weekend, you will not be disappointed. (We were even asked if we were staying upstairs, and then promptly given takeout cutlery and napkins) Thank you again Gente Restaurant for an amazing experience from start to finish, we are looking forward to our next visit! :)) Misha & Hailey
Amazing authentic Italian food, Ive ordered twice and loved it both times!
Phase 1 day 2 of opening and we didnt have a reservation but they were happy to accommodate. Amazing service, lovely environment, and fantastic food. From out of town but will definitely come back! Cant say enough good things about this place, highly recommend. Cheers!
Opening night for patio we were staying above the restaurant. We figured there may not be room for dining but wanted to do take out because we figured it was a great restaurant. The white man waiting for his food said you must knock . We knocked, a server opens the door and looks at us (two brown Indigenous husband and wife) tells us there s no take out available. We say ok thank you. He must have been the last order. We get food across the street and bring it back only to see not only white folks coming and placing orders for take out, but being seated by drop in as well. Other than the fact we were the only visibly brown people there I felt extremely unwelcomed. Stares from one of the staff I assumed owner all weekend without one smile as we were staying quietly and respectfully above.
Excellent service, seated without reservations and the food was amazing, very nice little patio with lots of shade.
Take-out of veal piccata al limone with potatoes and vegetables was good. Portion very small. Would have expected some bread with it.
Great Calamari! Tasty pizza!
Very lovely, cute little patio, personable experience :)
Good food and service.
GREAT pizza and service!
OMG sooooooooo good. Ordered a bunch of different dishes (Zio ramano pizza, spaghetti carbonara, Chicken parmesan, Brie wedges, Caesar salad, bruschetta) for take out to sample with the family and it all was amazing. Couldnt stop eating it until its all gone :). Definitely going back to try other dishes. Staff was friendly and informative. It was worth the wait and price.
The starters were really good, and patio set up they had was very clean and pleasing. Although it did rain on us which sucked ! The service was amazing and respectful. I d go back on a Sunny day before the summer ends for sure! The pizza was delicious
We order for 10 people takeout. Food was ready on time and very hot when brought home and served. The meal was fantastic all parties loved it. We are very pleased with all they did to make our evening great.
Loved it
Great pizza! Our waiter was a delight and very personable. Delightful experience!
I have gotten take-out about 4 times from this place and it s probably the best in Fergus for Italian food. I can t speak for the indoor dining experience, but every time I have gotten takeout, the staff is extremely dismissive and borderline rude. I feel like whenever I call in to order I am inconveniencing the person at the restaurant. Picking up at the restaurant feels no different, it s like they think my order is a huge hassle with everyone attempting to avoid the extra work. I may get helped with minimal enthusiasm OR I may be left waiting outside for 20 min because they forgot about me. It s a shame because though the food is good, the customer service is virtually non-existent.
We are recent locals and we were introduced to this excellent eatery! Small and very quaint. Service at its best. Food beyond comparison!! We highly recommend you call to reserve. You wont be disappointed!
Tonight I had one of the best dining experiences at Gente Urban Italian Eatery. The chef Angelo informed us that he was serving a rack of lamb as a special. We ordered the lamb and I have to say it was the best lamb I have ever tasted. I am not exaggerating when I say that it actually melted in my mouth and the flavour was just spectacular. Whatever Angelo did to prepare the lamb was true art work. The service was just wonderful throughout the evening. Thank you for restoring my faith in dining out. The whole experience was totally worth the hour drive and I will make it many more times Thank you
Excellent Italian cuisine. Very good service
Love this place. Great atmosphere and the food....speaks for itself. Hidden gem.
Great food. Friendly staff.
Awesome. The best
Food is amazing and authentic. Portions are very large and their meatballs are to die for! Highly recommend!
Thanks Angelo for a great meal. The veal parmesan and gente risotto was terrific, and your family made everything great, Thanks again.
Simply delicious. I wanted two things from the menu that were not available however Angelo surprised me with a exquisite chicken pesto plus focaccia bread. Great taste.
Awesome service! Called a day ahead and they accomodated special menu requests! Thx!
Ate on the patio tonight and it was beautiful, service was prompt and food was excellent!
Veal made me a bit queasy, but pretty good pasta.
We have visited this restaurant many times, and were delighted to finally enjoy a patio experience. The food was excellent. Husband had pear salad and chicken; I had calamari and fish of the day. While my food was a bit rich in flavour, it was excellent overall. Recommend a light appetizer with the main course as they are rich. Our young male waiter was excellent and professional.
The food and service was the best in a long time. I highly recomend and will definately be back. Thankyou
Food was amazing!!! Lentil soup was delicious for a cold summer evening. Grouper special was great too!
Amazing food, great service
This eatery is ok not authentic italian catering more north american style. Food is ok but it is missing the WOW factor. To bad that italians cannot represent italy as it is in a plate...and they just please the north american crowd. We had the calamari which was good but to much gravy and way too many onions...as per the eggplant parmiggiana was driwned in tomato sauce. My wife had the rib eye steak pan seared and again too many onions...she would have chosen more a striploin which is a more flavourful cut. I had the lasagne which was very ordinary and flooded with tomatoe sauce. Again Angelo if you want to represent Italy do it right. We will be back! T&D
Didnt know what to expect. Came there and it had a beautiful atmosphere. Nice patio and gorgeous vintage seating inside. Service was top notch. Cared for our safety inside the restaurant and followed regulated cleaning habits. Food was fantastic. We had 3 pasta dishes with 2 meat. All were terrific. Dessert was a taste that brought me back to my childhood of vintage Italian desserts. I must say, we had a great time there and will definitely be going again
Great menu and lovely staff willing to give fabulous food/wine pairing ideas and make up to go packages for seconds on dessert (cause they are just toooo good for one!)
Warm and homely atmosphere at this little Italian eatery thats actually a house! Food was was well up to par and the fresh pizza bread appetizer was surprisingly delicious! Staff were super friendly and service was attentive.
Was highly recommended, but was disappointed. Maybe expectations too high for the penne vodka and penne with sausage. Got take out, they were kind and gave me focaccia bread (but seemed more like pita bread). Ordered at 6:15p was told to pickup at 7:40. Wasnt ready till 8:10p. Very basic meal. Got home, added cilantro, fresh basil, Newfoundland sea salt, peppercorn pepper, chili flakes, grated parmasean and that gave it some life. The sausage was soft (I would have coined /pan fried it to give it some crispness). If you like a very basic pasta for almost $20 then its perfect. The ambience is nice if youre eating in. Staff seems nice. Maybe my expectations were too high.
The food and wine were delicious. We had the apple and mushroom salads. The penne alla vodka and beef special were great. The gentleman waiter was very gracious and pleasant throughout our meal. It started to pour while on the patio and he didn t seem phased working in the rain. We appreciated his great attitude and service!
Amazing gem in historic Fergus town. Delicious food, and only place to feature Thanksgiving dinner with entry, main course, and great dessert. Highly recommended as it is cozy with great selection of wine. 5 stars for sure!
Got thanksgiving dinner for four, portions were large & food was excellent. Apple tart desert was delicious & rich. We absolutely love this restaurant.
Incredible food and charming atmosphere. The service was great. We had two starters, a pizza, a risotto and the vol au vente everything was flavourful and top quality. Highly recommended.
Loved the food - great dinner spot and they even made me a sandwich off menu for the road at lunch!
Great food
Thank you Gente for a very delicious meal. This was my first time at Gente, I found the restaurant cute, quaint and comfortable. No complaints about the service, the server was attentive, jovial and the meal flowed perfectly. The food was delicious as presented no salt etc needed. I had the Gente Risotto for my main, my partner and I shared the calamari appetizer and I a mixed green salad. I was also pleasantly surprised at the number of gluten free options for me to choose from. Thank you Gente for a lovely date night, we will definitely be back.
Second time here. Food is amazing. Server is very knowledgeable and personable. Reasonable prices. Will be back. Try the eggplant parmesan.
Hands down the BEST italian food around! Coming from a girl who spent every sunday at her Nonna and Nonnos for dinner, this is the closest to authentic Italian food you can get! Would definitely recommend the pizza, carbonara and chicken parmigiana!
Fabulous food and service
Only one word to describe it. Wonderful. Im going to go back. Best cannoli I ever had
it was a really well decorated restaurant. the price is not too expensive. the service is really nice.
Stopped by last minute when someone recommended it. Was surprised at how good it was. Very authentic Italian. A real Mediterranean feel to it. Sat on the patio which was nice. A nice addition the dinner experiences available in Fergus. Will definitely be back. Prices very reasonable and quality food.
Truly reminded of being at a Italian restaurant on Amalfi coast. Looking forward to going back to the Gente Urban again. Happy that you opened your business in Fergus. Congratulations!
The Food is amazing. The Service amazing. A little piece of Italy just a step away
A delightful dining experience! Salads fresh and innovative...Pasta perfectly cooked, hot, and delicious! Loved the decor...comfortably casual but urban in design.
Amazing food, took my parents here and we all loved the food. Best Italian food in town!
Nice, very small Italian restaurant in an old renovated house. Wonderful aromas from the kitchen when you enter. Good selection of Italian standards. Tasty food, friendly service. Reasonable prices.
Food was very good. Ambiance can be improved, particularly by changing the lighting to something warmer. Restaurant is crowded.
Very good food but a little slow
The food is always amazing!
Fabulous food. Excellent service!
Exceptional all around. The food is delicious and you can tell prepared with care. It was a relaxed evening. The atmosphere was Romantic. A true authentic Italian cuisine
