Great atmosphere, great service, horrible food. Noodles were rubbery, gloppy, chicken tough and chewy. Vegetables hard and tasteless. We have 25.00 coupon to go back; we won't be back
My first ever 1⭐ review. Oggie's Bistro in Erie Niagara is a culinary catastrophe wrapped in nostalgic charm. The decor, reminiscent of an old bank, offers a quaint ambiance, but that’s where the positives end. The dishes we had, disaster! 😱 The chicken pasta, a sad pile of overcooked noodles and rubber like chicken pieces like they had been through a processing plant. Bruschetta, unforgivably subpar toasted bread ! Prices are absurd for the basic rail drinks, and the specials board was a joke—no prices listed! 💸 The speed at which the food arrived screamed “microwave,” not “chef.” There's zero passion here, just a pathetic attempt at cooking. If you can't respect the ingredients or the craft, don't bother. The food here is an insult to the palate—it's like serving a Michelin-starred meal in a landfill! Just plain awful!
First visit to fort erie location. Food was ok nothing special which was disappointing. No specials offered. Service was just ok. It felt like we were directing the experience, not the server. Much like any average eating experience but without the high price tag. It was a slow night. Not very many people at all. We ordered glass of house red wine which ended up being $22 per glass! The music changed to loud rock at some point which we asked to adjust the volume. In all, it was not bad just not great. Servers are the stewards of the business that sell and promote or just take your order. In this case there is much room for improvement.
Attended a party of 21 in the Back Room on a Friday Night. Only 2 other tables filled in alley. Service was poor. Waited over an hour for drinks. Food was cold and in some cases uneatable. Pizza was delivered with crust still doughy, Chicken Parmigiana was tough and chewy. Fetticcine dry .It appears the Kitchen and Staff can not handle large crowds. They lost a number of local returning customers that night.
Really nice atmosphere but the experience ruined it. We went with a group of about twenty, for a birthday party so the back room was reserved. It was 60 minutes past the reservation time before we were served our first drink! I've never seen anything so disorganized. We needed to request for someone to take our drink order. When the food arrived, it looked good. We had a limited menu because of the larger party (no problem). Probably 10 of us ordered chicken Parm and no one wanted to say anything but it was so over cooked, our steak knives struggled to cut through the chicken. As we waited for the bills, which never came, people started whispering about how tough the chicken was. By the time it was time to leave, everyone was agreeing about how horrible their food was. ("But the cheese was good" some people said) The waitress did ask everyone individually how the food was and it was made clear that everyone was unhappy with the quality of the food and disorganized process. Couples and families needed to go to the front and lineup to pay their bills. A bit of a disorganized mess sorting out who receives what bill, and they still got it wrong. Thank gawd it wasn't busy or the lineup of people through the restaurant would've disrupted the other guests (thankfully there were only two). This may be my first one star review. Unfortunately, I hope this restaurant figures out their kinks. It's my first and last time here.
Very disappointed with our lunch at Oggi today. Service was acceptable but food was not. 4 of us were seated in the “atrium” which is lovely. Given a menu for dinner rather than lunch. I had looked online prior and saw a “sports bar menu”. When asked for it, server did provide. We all ordered the perch….not good 👎. For $21 we received 2 VERY small pieces of soggy, strong tasting fish. Fries were good but 1 of us ordered the veggies and potatoes which were way overdone, soggy. 1 Strongbow cider was $14. I can buy 8 of them at the LCBO for $28. We have been in the past when it was The Old Bank…..what happened 🤷♀️? Maybe dinner is better 🤷♀️. Will we return….probably not.
Although some wine selections were unavailable the manager was quite accommodating with her suggestions and offers to sample prior to ordering. The service was exceptional. The food, both gnocchi and pappardelle bolognese, were also outstanding with generous portions. The focaccia too was tasty. Overall, we highly recommend this restaurant. The owner Pasquale, stopped by to chat. Very pleasant man. Loved it.
First time and I have mixed reviews. Same experience as others so I know this wasn't a one off. Atmosphere is amazing. Didn't know about specials but luckily we saw the board no prices so we were surprised when we got the bill...more than expected. Almost every dish was great except the mushroom sauce wish was inedible with too much salt. I hope this was just a slip because we liked the rest of the food so much that we will try it again. Friendly service but for the price I expect more.
Service staff are untrained. Management argued with our party of 6. He used foul language with children at the next table. Terrible people to deal with!! He told us he was short staffed like it was our fault for being there.
Delicious food and very hospitable staff.
Very good dinner, large portions and love the pasta sauce. Cheese cake was delicious. Look forward to coming back! Recommended dishes
Food is delicious. Service is amazing. The building is very historical and youve got to see the inside and the courtyard.
The food was amazing but Daisy was not very friendly. I actually felt like I was bothering her.
The food was absolutely delicious! The service was impeccable and we loved the ambiance of this restaurant.
The food was delicious and Josie made our visit even better. Will be returning for sure! Dietary restrictions: My friend that was a tag-along is vegetarian and there are enough options. Parking: Parking wasnt too hard to find.
This is a very nice quaint dining spot. The food was excellent the service was overwhelming and the atmosphere was perfect. For most of us middle class this is an excellent restaurant to go for a special occasion. Give it a try you wont regret
Ordered a goat cheese pizza... there was a giant hole in the crust. Couldnt pick up the pizza because it was soggy and it wasnt goat cheese. When we complained, was told our palette must be off. Will not be returning.
Weve been going to the Old Bank Bistro for years. This is not the same restaurant..the draft beer selection is poor, they no longer support local breweries. The wine selection isnt much better. My wife and I looked at the menu and decided there was nothing there for us. The new menu offered half what the Old Bank used to offer. We got up and walked out..its a shame. It used to be a wonderful place to go for food. The restaurant itself is still the same, so its nice..waitstaff was friendly, though a bit slow. We wont return ..
I don t like giving poor reviews to private owned business but I have to be honest - beautiful interior - servers are very friendly, but slow, and seem inexperienced. We ordered the bruschetta , veal parm and oggi burger The food was good ..- but for the price it should have been great , it wasn t . The burger was a decent burger but nothing spectacular. The veal parm was good but a little on the soggy side - basically the same as the Barrel for double the price . This isn t Toronto - if you re going to charge outrageous prices ,the food and service needs to justify it , and at the moment , it 100% doesn t . Definitely wasn t the worst meal I ve over paid for - but certainly wasn t close the best meal I ve had . I really hoped it was better
My husband and I thought we would try the new restaurant for Valentines day, we used to frequent the Old Bank Bistro so thought we would give this place a try. Food was just OK, but very pricey, staff although friendly did not seem to be very well trained. Server tried to give the table behind us our main course, not once but twice! No one offered us more drinks or much attention at all. When we finally did get our meal the seafood risotto was swimming in red sauce, drowned out the taste of the seafood, portions were adequate but very high priced. Dinner for two with 2 drinks cost us $240. I should also mention that they tried to impose a mandatory 20% tip on top of the $209 bill. Not likely to go back or recommend this restaurant.
Went for New Years Eve, the atmosphere was cozy and romantic. We both had the 16oz steak, I could not finish it as we had crab cakes for the appetizer, salad and of course the steak. My husband had the lobster with his and I had the jumbo shrimp with mine. Oh and grilled veggies so needless to say I couldnt finish my steak. Did take it home to enjoy the next day!!!!:) Will definitely go to Oggi Bistro again. Its wonderful that Old Fort Erie has a great restaurant which we need!!!!
Visited a few weeks ago after a friend dropped in for lunch. Not sure how long this place has been open, but felt like major growing pains. The place is pleasant, especially the enclosed courtyard between buildings. The servers were very nice but all presented unexperienced, felt like there was no experienced person guiding/teaching the team. Everything from getting water, trying to find a bottle of wine and taking orders was very slow and unfortunately, other guests were complaining aloud. Rough days happen, but sadly the food was underwhelming. Mussels were cooked well but had a flavourless thick tomato sauce poured over, bread was good. Veal parmigiana at first taste - chicken or veal? Little over done. I had the homemade gnocchi, which was quite good - but the accompanying sauce did not taste like a rose with basil, more cheesy Alfredo, and the option to change to just tomato was not possible. Hoping that they were just having an off night and perhaps we will give it another try again soon because the area could use a great local spot.
Staff was very attentive, might have been new but worked very hard. Food was very good and house wine was above average. Owner was very friendly and helpful, not overbearing. Overall great night out.
A hidden gem in the heart of Fort Erie, the most authentic Italian food we ve tried in a long time.
Excited to try new local restaurant but was somewhat underwhelmed with my visit. Restaurant courtyard give a nice atmosphere and the owner was very nice going to tables and greeting diners. Servers and hostess must be inexperienced or we picked the wrong night. Made later reservations as we were out celebrating a birthday, server did not list to us the specials but we saw them on the board. I should have asked for the price of the specials first (that was a bit of a surprise when the bill came). Food was good but for those prices I ve had much better at other local restaurants. Short of serving us our order we did not see servers to ask for refill on drinks. Portion sizes were large could have done with smaller portion, tomato sauce was just average. Cappuccino served with no spoon or sugar and no one around to ask even thought restaurant was empty at this point. Upon leaving we said good night to the one person we saw and made our way to the door. It was locked. Went back to speak to the staff and it was the Entertainer who pointed to us another door behind him that we needed to use to exit.
What a wonderful evening with delicious food! We didn t plan it - we just said let s try the Oggi - today! Not disappointing at all! Nice atmosphere in the courtyard , a very nice waitress and a charming Pasquale made the evening perfect! Menu has everything for everybody!!
Awesome Italian food!! Great crab cakes and seafood risotto!! Yummy!! Great service, thanks again Rhylea!!
Very very disappointed.... Good Service but the food was way over priced. Ordered the special Osso Bucco and Risotto, meat was tough, fatty and grissly. My wife only ate the Risotto due to the meat being so tough to cut through, I left more that half of my meat positon. Told the waiterss and she offer to comp a dessert, as she could see my wife plate was full being returned to the kitchen. My mistake not asking the price of the special, I would not return based on this experence and the way the staff handled our disappointment in the meal. As we were part of a large group (7) we were also charged 20% Service Charge on the bill.
We booked a table for a small birthday gathering. We use to go to the The Old Bank Bistro and always very pleased, however under this new business we couldnt be more disappointed. I have taken 5 points and rated those according to the 1 star. Service was excellent (she even told us about the gratuity on the bill as a heads up when we received the bill at the end of the dinner), Food was mediocre definitely not a wow, price was way way over its value, time was very long and always seemed to come with an explanation. Finally gratuity when they felt it was justifiable to calculate a mandatory gratuity to our party of 6 which included a 1 year old who didnt order anything unless he miraculously can talk and eat an order of chicken parmagiana. This establishment is trying to get same clientele like their Grimsby restaurant. Let it be known that Fort Erie community will not conform. We will not be back.
Underwhelming is the kindest description we can give. Our friends had the calamari; not crispy, cold, very small portion size, some of the larger pieces undercooked, greens were not edible. We shared the arugula salad; half wilted, with some of the greens ready for compost. The gnocchi were good, but the sauce lacked the redness and flavour of a rose and the fresh parm was powdery. The pappardelle sauce was tasteless, presentation was unappetizing. I cant speak for our dinner partners mains except to say that they requested salt and, like us, they didnt finish their meals. The last bottle of white wine of choice was warm, the guys beer of choice ran out after two bottles, the service was excruciatingly slow. The couple at the next table were told that the pizza oven was out of order. The bread was good! The three servers we dealt with were pleasant but inexperienced and lacked the knowledge and authority to deal with our concerns. We were polite to them, as they were trying their best and there didnt appear to be anyone minding the shop. Growing pains, or just a bad night? Hopefully, but before we decide to try again, well wait for more reviews and keep our fingers crossed. Meantime, there are a couple of other excellent Italian dining options in our town. The bar is set pretty high here!
