The Hilltop Maritime Tavern in Fredericton

Really enjoyed this place. Great decor and theme, great music, great service and we both really enjoyed our dinner: haddock fish and chips with a side salad (Greek) and the steak salad (whole sirloin steak done to your liking). Would definitely come back again.

The burger was good, but too pricy for what you get, especially since fries are $4 extra on top of the cost of the burger. Theres many other restaurants Id rather go to before coming here again.

hilltop tavern... It was an experience forsure, our server was amazing, I drove from shediac to Fredericton to get married and we decided to go to hilltop for our dinner and it was great but I wouldnt order the 16oz tbone Id go with the 12 oz sirloin. The server even said she shouldnt of allowed that to hit our table. The 16oz tbone was a joke. It looked like a slim piece of leather on a plate. And Ive worked in the industry a long time you guys need to get somebody in your kitchen who knows how to take a cut.

Enjoyed the Service, music and Atmosphere, The food was good but not fantastic especially for the price. I thought the Burgers were way over priced. The Burgers are $15.99 just for the burger no fries included, if you wanted fries it was an additional $3.99 for a handful. I would check this place out again, but try something different. Personally for the price for the Burger fries should be included.

Food was just generally not good. Salmon cakes tasted overcooked and had a funky taste to them, almost sour. Rice was okay. Caesar salad was just about inedible. Tasted almost chemical like. Wifes mashed potatoes had cream of mushrooms soup in them and were a very odd colour. Haddock wasnt very good either. Potato skins just tasted like oil. Service was okay. Atmosphere was meh. Overly bougie for a place called a tavern. Just meh all around.

To all future readers: Fries are not included. Fries are not free with sandwiches/burgers. Fries are a 3.99$ upcharge. Your server will not tell you this and the menu is not clear. This a predatory practice as I have never had to pay for fries anywhere as a side for a sandwich without notice. Overall food was incredibly average and overpriced, server was unfriendly, and vibes were weird.

Ceasar salad on a tiny plate that prevents you from mixing it. The JD Burger was tasty at $15.99. The fries an addtional $3.99. The bottles of wine prices are decent. The waitress we had 14 Sept 2024 at around 6 pm was not good.

Picked a place at random to grab lunch and wasn t all too impressed with the food. I would have likely enjoyed A&W next door just as much, if not more, and spent less money. August 9th 2024 Jemma was our server and Steven was the Bartender that day. Jemma took our drink order and we asked for 2 Monte Cristos. The drinks arrived wrong waiting about est 10 minutes. We sent it back with Jemma and asked for what we ordered. She came back with the mug COATED in sugar. It was sticky and wet like it over flowed and the bartender didnt wipe it down. My MIL and I took the drinks back ourselves, asked Steven for the right glass and mentioned how the cups are super sticky. He didnt seem bothered and said sure. After Jemma took our orders which she skillfully memorized, We are still waiting for our drinks. Steven is making other drinks and pouring shots for the folks sitting at the bar. waited another est 10 or so mins for the drinks. We finally get our drinks just as our food arrived or just before. However, my MIL didnt get her food. We got there at 7:30pm and we got our food around 8-8:10pm. We start eating while she waited and had her drink. She finished it and asked Jemma for another cup. Jemma went to go investigate the meal and drink 8:20 rolls around and MIL has no drink or food. Jemma comes back and we tell her to cancel our order for MIL because everyone else is done and she still has nothing. Jemma left to cancel and we notice Steven starts making the drink a few minutes after we cancel it. I panic because we dont want to waste the alcohol. I rush to the counted and Im like hey man I noticed you finally started making our drink. We dont want it anymore, its been like 15 mins since we ordered, MIL didnt get her food so we just cancelled. He doesnt even look at me as hes pouring a tap and just goes Ookay byee Yuup. I was like oop ok and I go back to my table. But Im trying this new thing where I shouldnt be scared when someone wants to have an attitude. I ordered something and it wasnt to standard so I spoke up. I didnt like how he spoke to me so I went back. Hes punching in his monitor and I spoke up excuse me. Ignored. I say again excuse me, I didnt like the way you spoke to me ignored. Jemma walks up beside me Im about to ask for her help and he just began SHOUTING at me. That was I was being a total Karen and I was Gaslighting him. That I was the one being super mean to him and kept going about it. I got super confused because I dont think he knows what Gaslighting means. at no point did i deny or try to say anything that questioned, manipulate the situation, or insist something didnt happen. Customers are staring and I just turn around and look at my family he just called me a Karen? Literally out of no where it escalated so fast. Kept repeating how Im Gaslighting him and Im just standing there dumbfounded. I confronted him with no recording camera, no manager escalation because I wanted to have a conversation with what I thought could have been handled better. He took off towards the kitchen after shouting at me that I was a gaslighter again and you can see him aggressively pointing my way when he started complaining to a woman. He was speaking to whom I assume was the manager. I walked up and told her Im so lost about what just happened. I explained the situation as best I could. She was really kind and I wish I got her name. She and Jemma showed a lot of empathy as I started to hold back tears. I clearly didnt want to stir up trouble and really regretted that I even said anything. Adrenaline started getting to me having now come to settle and realize what happened. My FIL came with me when the manager got involved and we both calmly explained what happened. Embarrassed, scared and downright shamed by a bartender for trying to stand up for myself. I have agoraphobia so its really difficult to find places you can feel comfortable in. I loved going to the Hilltop when opportunity came during family visits. It was a cool little restaurant safe space. It doesnt feel like a genuine place anymore after that. Also dont bloody listen to your therapist about having moments to voice and stand up for yourself when you are treated how you dislike. Steven man..

Great grub, good beer. Friendly service. Visit each time I come to Fredericton since 1984. Its an icon and while theyve remodeled a few times over the years, the great food and service has remained. Still one of the best spots in town for a great steak.

Great chickpea patty. Amazing fish and chips all for a good price. Stas was our server and he was exceptional. The restaurant was very large with a lot of good size seating.could have used some refreshing. Do recommend and will go back.

My only complaint is I find the wooden backs on their booths and chairs really uncomfortable for me.

Used to be full of all kinds of memorabilia like guitars, road signs and other cool old stuff. Now it just looks like any average restaurant. Ordered the wings and a burger. Got 8 wings for $18. They were the basic, individual wings too, not the kind that are still connected. Very small. Other places do 16oz (a Pound) for the same price, and theres usually 14 or so in a pound. So theyre close to double the price here. Their only Steak was 5oz for $20. Too much, not enough Steak. So instead, I got a Hamburger. Was thin. When I say a Whopper patty is larger, I am not kidding. It is literally larger at BK. I will say it tasted good, but it was way too small for the price of $18. Never again will I eat here. It was awesome years ago. Its just a run-of-the-mill place now.

Ordered food online through delivery app. The portions are large except for the piece of salmon in the salmon power bowl. I forgot to take a photo but it was about 3x3 very small compared to other similar dishes I have had at other restaurants. A tad disappointing. But please note the salmon was exceptional taste!!! The Asian Chicken Salad was generous and lots of chicken. Excellent value for that meal.

Service was pretty good. Could have had more interaction. Too much time lapsed between ordering and getting a beverage and actually receiving my lunch. Food was on the greasy side, and I found the portion a little small for the money. The overall atmosphere was great. I loved the interior design. Overall, it was a nice place to stop in, but I wouldnt make it a regular spot.

Had to pay $3.99 extra for french fries on the plate with a hamburger that is normally included with pub food. Ie: with a meal , a choice of mashed or french fries normally inclusive. At the Hilltop, a patron has to pay a fee to have this! This extra fee was not conveyed by the server. We were unaware of this extra fee for french fries. Fee for fries. Werent all that great anyways. Very small portion. This would be like paying separately for the garnish on a Shirley Temple. Not the normal restaurant practice. Only happened upon on this extra fee by chance today when scrutinizing our bill. An $8 extra fee, plus tax. ( Two of us had lunch .) Alot of people would pay this without looking. Service was distant , and food was average. Not really good value for the money. Two hamburgers with french fries , one beer, and one free water ( I think!) $58 plus.

Came at a good time the last two times, after he supper run. The food was very good. Service was excellent both times; different servers on both occasions and they interacted pleasantly. Very courtesy and not in your face. Parking: If it is not busy, parking is good. When busy, you often find yourself sneaking arking at the Shoppers Drug Mart next door. I tend to avoid the place if there is no parking available. Not particularly fond of crowds and noisy chatter.

We had 12 people all at the same time !! We read review before coming, I am sure they were paid for. not one of us loved the food , some of us sent it back and none of us finished out of 12 people !! 19.99 for HALF a sandwich and the 3.99 on top of that to fries !! My son added lettuce to his hamburger which he didn t finish cause it was horrible , I expected to pay something ! Not 1.00 for a piece of lettuce The prices they charge for the quality in quantity of this food is absurd!!! We will not be back and none of us will ever recommend anyone too waste their time or money

This restaurant/pub has been consistently good to us. The food and service is always great, well priced for the portions. It is a restaurant, with a great pub vibe. Plenty of options on tap. After several visits though, I finally tried their spicy Korean beef noodles (not that spicy) and it is my new favourite.

Great experience, Were served our meals quickly. The pub steak was great and so was the caper haddock dinner. If ever in the area, its a good option to visit this place.

Best steak

This was our first time as we have heard great things as we checked reviews also. We were seated right away on a Friday night. It took the server over 10 minutes to get to our table to take our drink order. We ordered the spinach dip for our app with drinks. When it arrived it looked great and the portion was larger than I expected for sure. It says it comes baked with grilled naan. This was not the case. I feel the dip was microwaved alongside the naan (not grilled at all) and was not very hot as the cheese on top was hardly melted. Our main dishes came within 5 minutes of the appetizer and that was disappointing also. I order the meatloaf. It was a great portion but again it was not hot and just warm. No coleslaw but veggies were over cooked and the garlic mash was tasty but warm. The second dish was a burger and the chips that came with it were not hot also. We felt they were understaffed as everyone was moving quickly around. Our server was very friendly and once her big table cleared we got to see her a lot more. The review rating reflects the over all experience with the Hilltop. Food was tasty but not hot and the service when we did get it was okay and friendly.

The onion rings you see were 11.99 plus tax and tip. There are 11. One was not edible. The waitress was very nice.

Service was good, had an old-school atmosphere. Wasnt very impressed that the main dish doesnt include the side but is actually charged separately.

Good atmosphere and pleasant wait staff. Unfortunately, we ordered draft beer and it wasn t cold. Wings were great but ordered the seafood soup and our bowls weren t even half full and it lacked seafood, $15/bowl. When it was mentioned, we were told that that is a common complaint from other patrons. Nothing was done to correct it, probably wouldn t return. Overall it was ok.

Awesome new items on the menu..come and try them out, stop in for a cold one too. New Wait staff from Grande Falls was friendly and on the ball on keeping our drinks flowing!!

We love coming here! Never disappoints. Very large restaurant, with lots of seating. The food is always great and the portions weve always been happy with. Personal favourites are the lamb burger and the Goat cheese, Cranberry, and Pecan salad. I cant have goat cheese and they substitute it for feta no problem :)

I ordered pan fried haddock with capers. It came with a nice medley of vegetables and probably the best mashed potatoes I ve had in a while. The veggies weren t the usual frozen carrot and pea medley which was a pleasant surprise as well. Full marks for the food but couldn t give full credit as I found the price a bit steep.

This is our favorite Fredericton restaurant. Great service, good portions and good prices. Everything on the menu is delicious! The waitress was wonderful.

The steak was delicious, garlic mash was unreal, and the service was excellent. Kiddo and Mama loved the place and the food. It was homey and comfortable, easy to get to on the way through if youre passing by. Definitely recommend it. Kid-friendliness: Our waitress was so good with ours and our friends little ones, it made the experience so much more enjoyable.

This is my second time at the Hilltop and the staff there is incredible, always friendly and accommodating. I was served about an hour before closing by Alicia (Alisha?) and she regularly checked in on my table and was very friendly. The food was hot and very delicious! We were told it was a 45 minute wait but we definitely got served quickly regardless, much less than 45 minutes! I thank all the staff for making this a great experience.

We showed up as a party of 17, including 7 kids, without a reservation. It wasnt our first choice but our other meal plans didnt work out. We told the hostess that we didnt need to be seated together because we knew it would be tough without planning. She had us wait 3ish minutes and arranged it so our party did end up all together. Even though there were 17 people, one waitress took our orders quickly, got us our food quickly and had everything rung out and cleaned up quickly. She was just fantastic. Atmosphere was great, we were there around 3pm on a Friday and it wasnt too busy or loud. Not my first time here, and certainly wont be my last!

Solid: a pleasant surprise given the past quality. I had the JD Burger and side salad, and a delightful Maritime Pale Ale from Grimross. 9/10 We reminisced about watching Ben Johnson win gold in 88 there... ah the Hilltop of the 80s and 90s...

Our waiter Nathan was pleasant and efficient.We got the Jack Daniels burger and a Greek salad.I was not so impressed with the food.The burger was burnt black on the outside,pinkish in the middle.Didn t taste like fresh meat.Maybe the blackened burger is a new flavour choice for some.The salad dressing wasn t the flavour I m use to in a Greek salad.The portions were okay.After all is said and done,I would have been more satisfied to have went to the Golden Arches or similar establishment and saved myself about $45.00 for the gas tank.Very disappointing.

Thank you for making our wedding anniversary date-day very special and memorable. I highly recommend this restaurant for a truly wonderful experience, which is for sure going to exceed any expectations. The following are just a few reasons: 1) The food quality, taste and uniqueness are hugely impressive. All the food items Ive had have been absolutely mouth-watering. I especially recommend the Steak Salad for steak so tender and juicy that it literally melts in your mouth.. yummy! The Chicken Nachos are also a must try as I have never had nachos with sweet pickles and feta cheese before...also sooo very yummy! Two must have desserts are a very unique Beer Brownie and a super moist Carrot Cake (with pineapple chuncks in it....mmmmmmm!!); 2) The Staff is all so very friendly, attentive and fast. They even warmly welcome you with a fresh bowl of warm popcorn to munch on while reading the menu...a very warm and personal touch; 3) The restaurant and washrooms are very big, spacious and clean. There is no chance of feeling claustophobic at any time of the day here; 4) The ambiance is very warm, inviting, cozy and comfortable. Its a very easy-going environment. The lights are at a perfect brightness, not too bright and not too dark. They always have really nice 80s and 90s music playing in the background at just the right volume, perfect to be able to hear and enjoy both your conversation and the music. They even have strands of really pretty, soft lights hanging around the bar...it really completes the whole expetience. Last, but definitely not least, I highly recommend you try their Miramichi Irish Red beer....I guarantee that it will go amazingly with whatever you decide to eat!!!! Mediocre food, Mediocre service. It was,....okay.

Went here for lunch while waiting for a delayed flight and, not only was the food good and affordable, but the servers gave us a map of downtown and marked off some of the attractions in the city to give us an idea of where to spend time while we waited to go to the airport. All the servers were very friendly, especially our server Nathan! Highly recommend for tourists.

Food was average, good craft beer list, service was poor, invest in some wait staff and busboys and sell a whole lot more, if I could have ordered another drink I would have, so would my wife and would have tipped more especially if I didn t have to wait 20 minutes for the check. Do the math, probably 40 tables time 2 drinks several times a day and the capacity to serve way more people

Ive been several times and every single time has been outstanding! The food and service are great! Ive had the Holy Smoke burger twice! That chorizo jam, no words except YUM!! The lamb burger is fantastic and the meatloaf with garlic mash and creamy coleslaw is to die for. Ill be heading there again Friday. Cant wait!

What a wonderful place. The chicken and pickle nachos was delicious. The atmosphere was high end yet you could be casual. Our waiter was super nice. Loved it, would gladly come back.

Steak was cooked perfect but not as tender as it should be for a NY tenderloin.

For the price, I should have been a lot fuller. BLT was good but was the size of a barely half sandwich. Add small side salad for an additional $8 and this was not a $24 meal.

100% a Fredericton staple. The staff are phenomenal; our server Darcy was awesome and had recommendations that were loved by both of us Kid-friendliness: Plenty of seating and booths for families.
