I have been to Maxwells many times and the last time may be my last time. I often get the beef tenderloin, which is my favourite. My friend and I always order it medium rare and it’s always delicious. This time is was raw. When they brought one back it was overcooked and done on the grill which they don’t usually do. Maxwells is usually a place where you pay higher prices for an excellent meal. This was terrible. I live in Fredericton and am very disappointed. The picture is how the brought the replacement.
The food was very tasteful and the presentation was amazing. Rene our server was very personable and made the experience even more delightful I can not rave about the taste of the food especially in Fredericton where I find the food choices of upscale food.. far and few in between. I highly recommend a visit !
On a colleague’s recommendation, went in to try this restaurant. It’s located inside crown plaza hotel. The ambiance is very nice and the food as well. They have an outdoor patio as well which I guess just opened up with a nice river view so you can enjoy food with a nice view.
Our sever did not know the proper way to present the wine and failed to present the cork to the person tasting. When asked for the cork he left it on the corkscrew. One member of our party ordered the tenderloin, medium-rare. It came out well done. It took 22 minutes to bring the properly prepared steak and still overcooked. Another member of our party ordered the 1/2 rack of lamb medium-rare and it came out well done. My lobster risotto was excellent with a generous a mount of lobster meat.
Fantastic place and food ! It was my first visit, and I absolutely plan to return.
From the seating by a courteous receptionist, to the waiting staff thanks for the wonderful down home hospitality! To the chef! WOW the food was amazing every succulent bite was delicious, perfectly cooked and presented! The sauce was to die for!
An extraordinary experience from start to finish. Unique combination of dishes and flavours on the menu. With some selections there was a sauce menu to choose from which all looked delicious. I would certainly recommend the new tuna appetizer as it's the best I've had in all my travels. We were a large group, and everyone expressed how much they enjoyed their choices. Large wine menu. Nice renovated space and view of the Saint John River. The staff was beyond accommodating and lovely. Parking on site.
Had breakfast here. The waitresses are very flexible. When I was there a wedding party was having breakfast so that place was busy but the service was still swift. The food is good. The price is good The view is amazing of the river. There is an outside patio or indoor high ceilings. I recommend.
Food quality low and over priced slow service
Food and service always incredible. I always get the tuna. Great wine selection as well. Priced reasonably.
Beef rib, was amazing the best i ever had in my life !! The ambiance ,the waiter are just wow !!
We have a lot of great restaurants in fredericton, but the chicken dish at Maxwells was by far the best meal I have had. I didn t know this place even existed. It was not overly busy, prices are a little more expensive but well worth it.
Charged us $60 for a 3oz lobster tail when they ran out of lobster. Worst experience in Fredericton.
Try this restaurant out. Our waitress was great. The food was great. The price wasn t too bad for a higher end restaurant. I hope everyone that goes has the same experience.
The food was outstanding and the service even better. Owen was charming and attentive and the food was delicious. Don t miss out on Maxwells!
Couldnt get past the hostess. We are fully booked she said as i could see about 10 empty tables. Yes they had a group coming in but she mentioned they were going in another room. Must have been the way i looked.
I came to this place and sited for over 30 minutes without serving by any waitress. However, only 5 or 6 tables were occupied. If this how you call service NO thank you.
We were there on a Tuesday for dinner, very good service and excellent food.
The food and service was outstanding. The servers were friendly and attentive. The steak was the best I ve had in Fredericton. You have to try the wild mushroom bruschetta!!
A dining experience.
The food was fantastic. Our server, Rene, was absolutely amazing. He was very knowledgeable and very kind. He made our night out even better.
I want to start out saying the food was phenomenal and the atmosphere was very pleasing and beautiful, but our service was so beyond disappointing. We were there for a birthday dinner and really looking forward to it but we waited at least 20-30mins for our drinks and an additional hour for our orders to even be taken. Then when our waitress came to actually take them there was no apology or mention of the wait time. Our food took about an hour to come out and it was so good but no check ins from our waitress about our apps or meal to see if we needed anything or if it was ok. We had to ask for pepper and water refills. At the end of our meal we were all clearly done eating for at least 15mins and still no one came over so I had to go find our waitress and ask for our bills. All the while this same waitress was waiting a table behind us and was very attentive to them and was always checking in with them and seeing to their needs. So to see our waitress treating a different table so drastically different was very frustrating. The service was so not worth the money we paid to eat here which makes me sad to say because the food and drinks were truly amazing but service like that makes it hard to want to go back.
Food was delicious but service was awful. Our group was for 7 and our reservation was for 7:30 pm The waitress took our drink order shortly after arriving but took 30 minutes to make our drinks and an hour until she took our food order. 45 mins went by until we received our apps and an other 45 mins for our main dishes. We did not leave until 10:30 pm !! Waitress never asked us how our food was, judged us on our food orders and never wished us a good night when we left. No communication from her unless we went searching for her in the restaurant (it was not busy) and we were noticing other tables that showed up after us receiving they re food before us.
Brilliance! Tressa was incredibly smooth. She suggested all the items we needed to try ! I can t wait to come back! Food : 5/5
Everything very good from food to service I highly recommend it
A top-notch dining experience. The atmosphere was comfortable, the staff were very friendly and amicable, and the food was divine. A very good and high-class dining experience overall, for a shockingly good price.
Professionally prepared,, cooked and served food, My wife and I enjoyed our evening so much we re looking forward to returning.
The poached halibut with risotto was delicious!! Great service, and a nice relaxing atmosphere
angus tenderloin was excellent. very soft and prepared it the way I wanted it.
This was my second visit to Maxwell since September 2022. My first visit was exceptional and I was excited to go back. This visit was not so exceptional. My dinner guest and I ordered the shrimp skewers, bacon-wrapped scallops and Maxwell Caesar salad as appetizers to share. The salad contained no parmesan ( at least none that could be seen or tasted), the shrimp was average, but the bacon wrapped scallops were very good - perhaps a bit overcooked as they were a slightly chewy, but still good. The short ribs were underwhelming. I had had them on my first visit and they were excellent, so I was looking forward to having them again. Unfortunately this time they were very fatty which made them chewy instead of tender and falling apart like they were for my first experience. It felt like they were running low and we got the less than desirable cuts that were left over. It was such a let down. I dont know if they are having issues sourcing quality ingredients now, but the difference between this dining experience and my last one was significant and disappointing. The ambiance and service was wonderful, but considering what we received for the price we paid, Im doubtful we will return.
Was overpriced for small portions and we left hungry after spending $200 on a dinner for two. Would not return/recommend.
Renee was our server and was FANTASTIC! The food was amazing! We had the Tuna Steak, Beef short ribs, and Creme Brulee for dessert.
Enjoyed a wonderful meal here. We tried many appetizers and they were all top notch! Had a filet mignon that was cooked perfectly that came with mashed potatoes that were excellent. Definitely the best steakhouse in Fredericton! 5 stars for the dinner. Now on to breakfast: I ordered the Eggs Benedict. The lemon hollandaise sauce was by far the worst hollandaise I have ever had. It was so sour it made the meal inedible. The staff was quick to offer me the buffet at half price after I told them about it so kudos to making it right. Had to take off one 1 star from the review because of the breakfast as the buffet was mediocre.
We loved our experience at Maxwells, the food was amazing and the service was excellent. Our waiter, René, was so nice, he noticed we were Québécois and then spoke to us in French. We had the lobster and a ribeye steak, both were delicious and beyond expectations. Everything was high quality: side vegetables, salad, main course, desert... Drinks were also great! Definetely recommend this place.
It was a wonderful experience for the service to the meal to the atmosphere. I would highly recommend this to anyone!
Well! Theresa, our server was a gem!!! We had the shrimp entrée The Tuna Steak And Steak and Harvest Salad All were exceptional!!! And the Ceasar & Empress Gimlet were spot on ! Also to note that we enjoyed our dinner on the back deck with a lovely evening view of the river and gardens. Everything about it was fabulous Spend the money. It is worth it.
James was excellent to our group, food was great, excellent atmosphere
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary with dinner on the back deck at Maxwells. It was very special! The meal was great and the venue (overlooking the river on a beautiful late summer evening) was picture perfect. But what really stood out was the service: it was truly outstanding!
Great place!. It was our first time here. I will definitely go back.
We were there early because we had a concert at 8pm so it wasn t busy. Food was very delicious. I had the tuna steaks and I have to admit, it was the best I ve ever had. They unfortunately placed us(party of 2) in a weird place by the washroom with a unstable table. I feel we would ve been more comfortable in a more « restaurant lookalike » area of the restaurant. Service was good.
This has become my new favorite restaurant in Fredericton. The most important thing of any restaurant, the food and beverage were truly excellent. I had a ribeye steak with béarnaise sauce and fingerling potatoes accompanied by a cocktail when I arrived and a glass of wine along with the steak. The steak was perfectly cooked, seasoned and was a very high-quality cut of beef. The sauce accented the meat very well. The potatoes were also very well cooked and seasoned. The old fashioned that I had before my meal was expertly prepared and the wine I chose, a Cabernet Sauvignon, complimented the steak. Beyond the food, the atmosphere was also very inviting, everything I would want in a steakhouse, with comfortable seats and pleasant lighting that made you want to stay and enjoy your dining experience. Lastly, the service was impeccable with the server being very attentive but not intrusive. This is my new go to spot in the city for special occasions, out of town guests, or to simply have a great meal.
Went in to try a new restaurant. Customer service with James was great. Shared good laughs with him. Go there to see what great service is.
We went for dine around freddy and it was very disappointing. This is the second and probably last time we will be going to Maxwells, unfortunately. Onion soup was basically the tail end of whatever they served everyone else. Soggy tasteless onion mush, with a piece of toasted bread with melted cheese. The cheese on bread was the best part. My coq au vin was very dry, bitter, just bad. The short ribs were unfortunately very bland, looked like they had been in a sous vide all day and not seared at all. Grey all the way through. The chef was phoning it in by the looks of our meals. The desert was ok, hence the one star.
We went for breakfast this morning. Will never go back unfortunately. After being seated, the servers did not return with menus, or even water. We were hungry so eventually just got up and had the buffet. After having to get up and ask for coffee, which eventually came (with no milk/cream), my husband got a bowl of milk meant for cereal from the buffet to use. We were unable to get any water to drink and eventually went to the entrance and asked. 10 minutes later we received 2 glasses of water for a table of 4. Server told us to get the rest from the buffets ourselves which we had already tried - there was no glasses or water available at the buffet either. Food was fine but hard to enjoy when you aren t even allowed to have a glass of water. The hotel is lovely, would stay again. The other restaurant is great but Maxwell s was a disaster.
Wow! This restaurant had such amazing food and the service was excellent!! The house pasta was fresh and comparable to the pasta of Micheline star Chefs in Florence! The crème brûlée was also lovely. All at an extremely affordable price. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Fredericton and will be back soon!!
Outstanding experience at maxwells steak and seafood!! From the beginning of the meal until we walked out the door our server (Rene) was absolutely amazing! He helped pair the perfect meal with the right wine, returned to check on us regularly, gave us pointers on the areas to see in town and even gave us a local history lesson. Most importantly though the food was perfect. It was one of the best all around meals I have had in a restaurant. I will be back and highly recommend this restaurant!
Excellent restaurant. Consistently great food, drinks and service. 2022 Edit: went again post-reno and the food is still excellent. Service was great, we had a lovely dinner.
It is a very nice restaurant, especially the waiter is very friendly.
The quality of the food speaks well for this establishment: beef carpaccio is fresh and thinly sliced. Steak was medium rare on the spot. Service was quite agreeable.
We enjoyed a lovely, relaxing and delicious evening at Maxwells last week. This was our first visit since Maxwells revised its format to steak and seafood. We found the menu complete with just the right variety of appetizers and entrées to our liking. My rack of lamb was tender, tasty and cooked to medium-rare perfection. We told our charming and very efficient server, Teresa, that we were not in a hurry and she accommodated our pace perfectly. Her wine and menu suggestions were greatly appreciated. We topped the evening off with a special Maxwells coffee. Wonderful! And it was so nice to find a restaurant where the ambient noise has been controlled. What bliss to be able to carry on a conversation without yelling. We will be back.
It was really delicious! Excellent Tomahawk steak with blue cheese sauce, best mashed potatoes and service as excellent as it is charming. Thank you R.C.
We had a great meal with excellent service. Expect to pay a premium price for the professional service and exceptional food. Our server was friendly, prompt and professional in his demeanour. The meal exceeded our expectations from the start to finish. Portion sizes were beyond our expectations and the quality of the food was second to none. We will go back for another celebration knowing that we will have another amazing experience.
Service is extremely slow did not like that we didn t order the buffet so we had to wait an hour! Woman working was rude
Stayed at the hotel and ate their everyday breakfast and supper and fantastic! The vegan French toast was super good but very sweet so we split that with the chefs breakfast and it was a perfect touch ! Chicken wings were so yummy and crispy , chicken Shawarma wasn t the best I ever had but I ate the whole thing so what does that tell you . Very reliable consistent and big portions . The eggs beny is delish I found the fresh biscuits it s on are better when the biscuits are thinner bc I had it a couple times ! Great quality would eat there again .obvi
Beautifully renovated!
Love the place.
Vegan chocolate cheesecake, you have to get it!!
Excellent service, delicious meal.
Ordered Wings. It was very oily and no taste. The cocktail which I ordered wasnt tasting good. Moody interior. Old age theme but its not bringing a good vibe.
We were so disappointed!!! We chose this restaurant after much research for a special occasion dinner. The menu online was full of varied and interesting items. When we arrived the menu contained three entrees a few small plates salads and desserts...nothing interesting or that indicated fine dining..the waiter stated the menu we had seen on line was 8 years old and the menu we were looking at had been in place a year..He also advised the restaurant had no control over content on line even though it was the actual website for the restaurant...OR anything Open Table posted..he was really rude and condescending..that. along with the fact there was nothing appealing on the menu influenced our decision to go elsewhere for our dining experience.
Went during the afternoon on a Sunday for the afternoon tea. Weve visited a few times and weve always had a good experience. The servers are friendly and the sandwiches and desserts they serve change every time weve gotten the tea. Its $15 per person for the tea and its a nice lighter option for lunch.
I had the best service ever and the lobster was delicious.
Great service and food
Ordered the $15 afternoon tea with my friends. The food was bad. The texture of the pudding/custard was weird and can taste raw egg flavour(didn t know if they actually have eggs in them); chocolate clusters tasted pretty cheap and not fresh. The scone/tea biscuit is mediocre (and it was served cold, most of the hi tea I went serve scone warm). The taste of sandwich is also below convenience store level, and the cheese used tasted not fresh as well. Tea selection was low (server only mentioned ard 5) for a place to serve afternoon tea. They change the menu every time and this might be just a bad day for the chief but then the quality control is just not acceptable. (And this is the only place I went for hi tea that they don t introduce their pieces on the plate when they don t have a set menu. Maybe it s cuz they have nothing special.) It was a Saturday noon and the service is not good. I know it s a $15 thing and don t have high expectations. Wouldn t recommend this if you actually love hi tea.
Good food, good customer service, nice ambiance!
Wow!! I just had the best breakfast ever! The new renovation looks beautiful and the breakfast burger is amazing!! This will be our new go to breakfast/brunch place. I cant wait to go for dinner as well!
