Restaurant de cuisine africaine authentique à saveur tropicale qui se distingue par son subtil mél
I visited Makasi earlier this year for my birthday. We had great service and the food was delicious. The plantain and goat were very fresh and the beignet delicious. I hope moving forward everyone can have a positive experience like I did and support this local business. It makes me sad to see how many bad reviews they are receiving.
ordered take out. first time in a long long time that I felt like the food in this horrible country was delicious. as a former chef of 10 years, I can tell you that the ingredients, recipes and technique used were best for the price. it is still a bit pricey, but probably due to location (rent (ban landlords)), of it was a bit cheaper, I would order it every week. thats how good it is. thats how satisfied I was. true soul food. I highly recommend.
Great portions and everything tasty, nicely served and reasonable price. Excellent service. It’s a large, modern restaurant with parking close by. I enjoyed the Congolese music and added some songs to my music app.
My husband and I love this place. The service is great. I’ve tried a few different items and everything tastes great. I gave the food 4-stars for 2 reasons. First, I find the food too oily. Second, there’s inconsistency in the food. Example, I’ve order salted fish twice. The first time it wasn’t salted at all, the next time, it was the perfect amount of salt. My husband always orders the tilapia, but there always inconsistency in the size of the actual fish to how it’s labelled on the menu. Last time we ate there, he was told there was only large tilapia left, when it came to the table, it was the same size as the mediums he’s ordered in the past. Also, each time we go, I always ask for beignets, but it’s never available. I wish it was noted on the menu that it’s a weekend only item.
The food is really really good. I mean I'm on the fence about even pointing out the negatives because of that. But The price quoted last time was 13 for a quarter chicken and rice the price when I arrived was 19 plus they forgot to make it so I had to wait The owners sons I presume just stand at the bar and come off really cold in nature. The place tries to pull off a look of subtle grace or at least an inviting atmosphere, but the bar staff has a different vibe and they are the greeters If this restaurant would do two things it could be a real go-to in this city stay open later on weekends and your trying to get these sensitive people in the door act accordingly ! And second Update menu pricing and descriptions of food Other the. That it's a great place
This place didn't disappoint. The customer service over the phone was great and the food was excellent! Ordered the family platter with chicken and I couldn't stop eating! The chicken was well seasoned and tender - and the charcoal grill flavour was amazing. The plantain was oh my goodness yummy. The only thing I'd recommend improvement on is the salad; it wasn't the freshest looking (lettuce looked a little old). That said, I'm sure give them more business in the future. Bravo, Makasi!
Unfortunately the chicken made me sick. It had an aftertaste and I believe it was old and reheated and put in onions and a lot of spice. Not impressed & i haven’t been able to eat anything for 3 days.
Ordered chicken platter takeout and almost cried. Chicken was beautifully barbequed and seared, rice was exceptionally flavoured, salad was very fresh with delicious dressing and fried plantain (my first time having it!) was extremely delicious. Ate the whole thing in my car with my hands because I couldn't wait to get home to eat it it smelled so good. Thank you very much for the food!!!!
To all lovers of African cuisine, if you are passing through Gatineau and want to tantalize your taste buds, I highly recommend the Makasi restaurant. The braised chicken thighs and plantain fries are absolutely succulent, like all their meals. Go and enjoy!
Rosie on fire. Everything was excellent. The service, the food, the team, I love it
I loved the meal especially the chicken
Take away Very good portion and very very well spiced The rice, chicken and plantains were all delicious.
Ive been there twice. The braised fish dishes were succulent but the service was very poor. When we get home, we barely say hello. I asked for sauce to accompany the fish, your waitress told me disrespectfully that you dont serve it. The thank you, the smile, I was not served. I was with my children, I didnt want to shout but mm for cleaning the tables, it was the limit of pushing yourself, I finished my task.
I dont know how you make your chicken mayo, but honestly I love it, I absolutely love it, its so good, so soft.
Good food
The best of all Gatineau! Fresh product and the taste of Africa
Beautiful place, a discovery! Excellent food, reasonable prices for what is offered. The meal was served on time. Friendly and generous customer service, we graciously received an entry, but incomplete. We took our order without distinguishing the accompaniments, no follow-up once the meal was received, no receipt of the invoice. It would have been appreciated. But great
You are the best God bless you
Very good food and excellent customer service!!!
The food is good, a varied buffet, very good customer service. A nice welcome, the Service can be slow at times, but the staff is respectful. I recommend this restaurant.
Beautiful place. Awesome food
Lovely. Great Service.
I never receive the correct order. you really suck.
Great african food restaurant in downtown Gatineau
Very good service
very tasty
Best Congolese restaurant, I highly recommend
This place has closed. There is no restaurant Makasi at this place anymore.
Good charcoal grilled food! Their spicy sauce is actually spicy.
Be careful when ordering chicken at Makasi. We insisted to the girl that we didnt eat rare chicken, but we ended up with a poorly cooked chicken inside with blood and its not the first time. Very disappointed.
The food is so good Parking: Easy parking
Very good Congolese restaurant in the National Capital region. Own; Warm atmosphere and wow food, I recommend the chicken mayo and plantain. Parking: Plenty of parking spaces. Kid-friendliness: The place is spacious.
The waitress was very rude and the prices are ridiculous
slow cooking staff were talking in kitchen in stead of cooking our food long wait like 1 hour minimum costed very expensive
The goat is very good
I had a bad experience with them. And twice already they were mixing up my orders and when I called for the second time the guy over the phone was rude. You really have to review your customer experience. It s sucks.
Chicken and goat are very good. The rice tastes good too. Good service with Esther. I highly recommend.
I love the atmosphere that reigns in this restaurant, with African dishes you will feel like you are traveling across the continent remembering every moment you have Lived as a child. Pleasant service, clean surroundings, a meal that makes your mouth water, their chef who goes to each table to greet the customers and find out if everything is correct
You are really overpriced and your portions are very small. But at least be kind enough to give the little things like the pepper or the little magic cube for those next door. But you always serve with a straight face. Discouraging
The best cuisine in the world! I swore
Cosy, calm and clean environment. Varieties of music Playlist and fantastic meals.
The best restaurant in Gatineau. The food is delicious, the service excellent, and a great atmosphere. Food : 5/5
I liked the clean place apart from one of the servants who is a little self-conscious by spanking seem to not know how to speak her language which is Lingala but the rest I recommend Parking: You have to pay 7 dollars next door in a very secure private parking lot
The chicken made me sick, and the service was really bad. Prices are crazy high..do not recommend it at all
Great food and the customers were great. Staff was rude but everything else else was perfect
We were treated to a magnificent buffet/dinner for 20 people
Overpriced
Bad experience. They sold us a burnt braised chicken. How can we sell a burnt chicken to a customer who pays their money??? Bad customer service, we called and the person on the phone told us its because of the coal. Plus he was haughty, not polite. Bad experience. Very disappointed.
The dishes are excellent
I stopped taking deliveries from Makasi for 6 months because every time it took 20-30 minutes. Have some respect for the drivers and fix your wait times. Every driver that accepts an order for you looses money and makes less than minimum wage that hour. Seriously it s unacceptable and you know this.
We moved to the region about 6 months ago and ordered about 10 times. Food is good, but orders have been delayed everytime. I can tolerate that... just about. However last night we ordered. Got there a full 45 minutes after the time they told us and still had to wait. I could have lived with it. Now when we got home and started to eat we both noticed the makayabu was off. Stopped after a couple of bites but not even an hour later were both on the toilet non stop with violent diarrhea! I called the restaurant at 9pm to let them know, only to be rudely told there was no way that was possible because said makayabu was in freezer. First of all freezer does not mean food will stay eatable forever. Where is your sense of customer service. I had to ask the lady to first stop shouting at me and secondly hear me out. Rule number 1 of any business serious about customer service: do not argue with your customers. Fix it. And dont tell me to come back for $15 refund. Its not about the money its about the customer service. Next time: start by apologising and secondly ask the customer what you can do to fix it. Because seriously: Food poisoning is dangerous and you can be sued or worst loose your license. Please do better. Thank you. An extremely frustrated and disappointed customer. Black owned businesses just need to do better if we are ever to compete commercially with the others. Your food is good, fix the rest: fix the lateness and confusion and check every order for quality control. Merci! I hope the onwer reads this. I want your business to thrive and right now this is not good enough.
Fried plantains are the best! I dont share those hehe
They are never ready. Dont respect the time. Always late. If you are in a hurry dont order here. THANKS
Honestly, the food is good! Popopopo warms the heart.
Yummy charcoal grilled food. Their spicy sauce is actually spicy and everything I ve had so far is tasty.
THE MAKASI-2 RESTAURANT HAS MOVED SINCE NOVEMBER 1, 2022 TO 77 Prom. du Portage, Gatineau, QC J8X 2J9
Very dirty, cockroaches, really not clean
The problem with African restaurants; it s because they are always poorly organized!!! I ordered Chicken Mayo and it was super salty I still gave it another chance, I ordered 3 chickens with rice and bananas arrived to take the order; the chickens werent ready, they told us they didnt have any more bananas lol and a rice dish cost $40 lol mediocre! Never again!! Bye! They are too poorly organized!
Very good restaurant! The food is amazing! One of the best African restaurants in the region. Best chicken mayo in town!
Chicken mayonnaise very good but the rice not seasoned enough
The food here is really delicious and well seasoned . I like how soft and tasty the goat meat is . Even the chicken is really amazing with a nice golden colour and a tasty seasoning. I gave four stars because It is too expensive with a small quantity but beside that, the food is great .
Amazing tasty congolese food
The ordered a fish dish and it was very fresh and delicious. Their donuts are super tasty! 10/10 Would recommend!
The food is amazing! It is a bit pricey for the quantity but the food is delicious! I will order again for sure!
Delicious
The braised chicken and atike were very good. However, the in-person service was really lacking. The employee who didnt say a single word when I arrived was then very hesitant to give me my order because I didnt have adequate proof (I had ordered through the Doordash website and not the app). I showed him the text messages I received from Doordash and the email confirming the order. I offered him ID, which he wasnt interested in, even though my name was on the order bag. He ended up giving me my meal, but grumbling. Its up to you to judge the situation...
I used to love this place, but the quality of the food really went down. I asked for the spicy chicken, but the flavor wasnt there at all. The chicken piece was small and too salty, and Ive had better plantain elsewhere.
Ordered the biegnet and goat 30mins ahead of pickup and when I got there I still had to wait 10-15mins for them to actually put my order together. The goat was alright, flavour-wise but cold. The beignets were re-fried and not freshly made. Overall disappointed because I have previously had their freshly made biegnets an they were decent.
GOOD
I discovered it recently after tasting chicken mayo. I came back twice afterwards. I like the welcome and the dishes offered there. Its worth the detour for a good meal
Its a bad experience for me
Just rubbish. Sorry but its my 2nd time and its the worst restaurant. Too much oil, too salty, not spicy. never again
Order braised fish. It was bland and like rubber. Zero customer service. Not a good experience for me at all
i just called and they didnt give me any service at all . the website says is open until 9:00 pm . they guy picked the phone up and said the snot service. wrong information missinform .!!
Nice place. Welcoming and great staff. Fast and delicious food. Feel like home. Only bad thing is the price , they re bit expensive. Overall I had great experience and the food was so good( took it home). I highly recommend. Will definitely be going back .
food was excellent! I had goat and chicken mayo. the service was also very good. the place looks nice. will definitely be going back (although a bit pricey!)
Service and greeting was excellent. Great food in a cosy setting.
Very good cuisine
The service is excellent and the food is very good!
Very clean place, really good food, extremely kind and professional staff.
Excellent place. Great staff. Everything s good. Tokossssss
Best african cuisine in town
Plantain and goat cheese!
Good place to eat or to order african food
How can I pay for something so overpriced and still get an empty box. There s is no way you close that box without seeing it is empty. Overpriced and they lack respect
Good African food
Open until late evening
Heard about the place from my sister. I figured I d support a Congolese restaurant but ILL NEVER BE BACK AND WILL DEFINETELY NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE IN THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC. They simply don t care. Food was okay; nothing spectacular. The food is the only reason why they are getting 2 stars to be honest. TARDINESS - I called at 19:00 and asked for the food to be ready for 20:00. I know Congolese people have an issue with time so I gave them an extra 15 minutes and arrived at 20:15. My food wasn t ready. i ended up leaving the restaurant at 8:50pm. COVID-19 MEASURES When I arrived, a gentleman with a mask on his neck was sitting at the bar. I stayed away. The guy that had taken my order came out of the kitchen, him too with his mask on his chin. NO ONE IN THE KITCHEN WAS WEARING A MASK. I mentioned it. His response everyone is wearing a mask YES ON THEIR CHIN. and he continued COVID got all of you paranoid Paranoid? SIR, we are in Phase 2 and went in the red zone yesterday. SAFE TO SAY THIS PLACE DOESNT CARE ABOUT COVID OR THE HEALTH OF THEIR CUSTOMERS.
Amazing food! Great African restaurant in Gatineau! Everything on menu is good!
Bad welcome, the owner doesnt smile, doesnt even say hello. Whats sickening is that the first time I went there to buy chicken, I made 2 orders, I needed chili for each of my orders, but the manager preferred to chat with me instead of adding spice to me. Customer service is lousy. Then there is no difference between mayonnaise chicken and plain chicken. Its just the mayonnaise they add to confuse the customers.
Very well eaten! The food is delicious.
The meals were cold (chicken meat) overcooked. The meats had no juice because they were overcooked. Reception 3/5. The service is very slow. The menu is poorly organized. YKO and PILI PILI have the best braised chicken in the region.
The worst experience of my life. First of all, we ordered 2 tilapia but there was only one left. The manager therefore offered salmon instead, supposedly as compensation. To our great surprise, she brought us a small slice of fish with some vegetables and tomatoes (extremely bland), which we refused of course because it was not honest on her part. As for the tilapia that was available, it was dry and hard as a stone, impossible to chew. When we reported this to the manager and the waitress, they gave us bogus justifications. This was the very first time in my life that I didnt tip for service. My girlfriend and I are extremely disappointed and will NEVER return AGAIN.
The price does not correspond to the quantity of the food (too expensive for nothing). The goat is $22 with 22 pieces of goat or less even Here I am in total disappointment. The star is for the donuts, they are good but always expensive.
Now I don t give out 5 stars freely. But I got to say this one was well deserved I mean wow. For the price you get enough food to stuff you for the day! And the taste omg, words can t even begin to explain. The goat especially was the cost of grace when done well goat is magnificent and this restaurant understands that and does it to perfection. I saw myself eating both all my plate and some of my friends plate, that s how good it was. 5 stars well deserved. This is truly that good good African food. Expect to see me here again very soon and to pass the word on to everyone I know! ============================= (French version) Now I dont give 5 stars freely. But I have to say this one was well deserved, I mean wow. For the price, youll have enough food to get you through the day! And the taste, words cant even begin to explain. The goat especially was the cost of grace when done well the goat is magnificent and this restaurant understands that and does it to perfection. I saw myself eating both my plate and the one from my pot, it s really good. 5 stars well deserved. It really is a good African meal. Expect to see me back here very soon and spreading the word to everyone I know!
THE FOOD IS TOO EXPENSIVE FOR A FROZEN FOOD HEATED IN THE MICROWAVE, IT PREPARES VERY POORLY AND WITH THE PRICE OF THE FOOD I PREFER TO GO AND TASTE A STEAK AT THE KEG, NEVER GO, IT S A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY
Good food and friendly staff !!
