Overall, a subpar experience & I was disappointed. Our table of 10 people took an hour to serve during lunch, which is on the brink of acceptability (in my opinion) - it took about 20 minutes before we even got water, to start - way too long given the circumstances. The restaurant was not crowded (about maybe 5 other tables or so other than us). Disregarding the speed of the service, the Poule-quoi was quite bland, and certainly underseasoned. The chicken burger did its job in lasting me until the early evening though, so it was filling at the very least. Atmosphere-wise, there was a strange scent of garbage (or *something* that was rotting) that our group got a whiff of whenever there was a breeze of any kind. == Regarding the positives: The good news is that luckily, our group had a good conversation to pass the time and I was not particularly hungry (but the rest of our group could have been). I liked the piano at the entrance of the restaurant, it was just a shame that nobody really performed on it is all. The washrooms were also pretty clean and accessible. For food prices these days it's more on the affordable side, but for the dish I actually got, 100% not worth the money.
The atmosphere wasn't great, not a great selection of drinks. Also a word of caution to anyone who might want to leave a bad review, a friend of mine who went there recently left a review (nothing bad was said, just stated a fact) and the bar cyber stalked her and contacted her employer claiming she was intoxicated (untrue). Very questionable behaviour from them...
The Fancy Nancy burger was really tasty, the brie melted wonderfully & combo of flavors was just right. The salad dressing wasn't to my liking and tasted too much like mustard for me. I had the sour beer and that was good. My server was great. I would go again.
Lots of potential with a cool set up and huge accessible patio, decent pub food…but the terrible, slow service ruined this experience. Hope it was an off night because it was truly the worst service experience I’ve had in a VERY long time and that is saying something.
We went to Troquet on Sunday the 28th. Let me start by saying that we went there for their fantastic French onion soup and it was, indeed, as good as people have told us! It’s all the broth that their chef makes! Just the perfect amount of salt! You won’t find a French onion soup like this on Ottawa side! Pro tip: make sure to ask for extra cheese on your soup and an extra patty on your burger. Delicious. Now, the ambience was very cozy and intimate. They have a bunch of beautiful art pieces of space and galaxies which you can purchase. I will have to go back to get the name of the artist because his work is a pleasure to look at and the website have posters available as well. I am planning on purchasing one :) Now, what really made it a five star experience was our server! My dear, I asked for your name and then forgot it! I’m sorry about this! However, he was the only guy working FOH that day at 6 pm. What a wonderful human and an excellent server. People like this are the reason why I and my partner still go out for dinner. And he is the reason we will be back to Troquet for sure. First, he mixed me a perfect mocktail, guided us through the menu which was all in French, made amazing suggestions, changed the lighting to red after asking for our preference and, overall, was one of the most patient, courteous, professional and accommodating servers we have dealt with in Hull! On top of that, he was extremely pleasant and funny. Excellent service. Love, love, love!
Good burgers, great fries, and great staff. Was there for lunch and will go back. They also have a decent beer selection.
July 2022 update. Considering it’s prime location, it’s a 3.5- 4 star. ( factors evaluated are ambiance , service, food quality and location) Location - 5*. Does not get any better than this resto/ cafe offering front outdoor terrace for people watching, garden Terrance for intimate dining or coffee and indoor restaurant space for hip and casual ambiance. Ambiance - 4.5*. its casual and relaxed. Mix matched furniture offering shabby chic interior which is Always laid back and comfortable each time I come here. They don’t rush you and let you pick what’s most convenient for you as long as there is room. Most menu and drink items are written on the wall. ( price is only written on the menu tho ✌️). Could use more air indoor in the summer time when it gets stuffy. Service - 4*. Bilingual service as usual. perhaps staff shortage or new staff training. It took a long time to order, get drink and food. Whilst asking for service, there was a long delay and the restaurant was less than a 1/3 filled at 6 pm. Food quality: 3.5*. Most popular item on menu seem to be burger. Fries are traditional French Canadian style…. Skin on, juicy and sweet. QC style …..😘Plates are stacked with a good portion of fries. However, for $19-$23 / plate; I expected a more succulent burger both in taste and size. Final critic is actually the Apéro platter. At best, one can call it a small ( piccolo) appetizer plate. 4 pieces of bread rusks ($2 extra charge for more). , with 3 slices of Brie, some goat cheese etc….. mixed with pickled 1/2 egg and olives…… for $24. Pretty disappointed. But I guess this is new post covid dining to its best. Last but not least: a pint is 20 oz in UK and 16 oz in America. their pint drink does not seem like a 16 onze ( American pint ) but rather 12 onze ……. But what do I know. It just seems much less than usual. Et voilà. 4* is my average best final score. My review for Le troquet.
Delicious poutine and a wide selection of good beers. Add to that excellent service from a gorgeous waitress and this may be the best place to hang and eat in Gatineau.

La nourriture est correct, mais je ne crois pas que se soit particulièrement professionnel denvoyer un message privé au travail de mon amie après quelle ai donné le Troquet une opinion dune seule étoile à cause quils ne lont pas laissé rentrer à lintérieur (elle était une cliente) pour aller au toilette. De plus, le message qui a été envoyé à son employeur était faux.

Came here for canada day. Pleasantly surprised. Even my normally discerning children loved it. Great service, despite how busy it is on canada day. Very friendly server. Poutine, hot dogs, burgers, fries. And panini. All typical pub food but delicious and a decent serving size. The location is convenient, and with very cozy, and comfortable decor Highly recommend.
We used to come here for the Nice atmosphère and good food. Not anymore as the food is terrible, service is very average and more importantly, it will take them 1 hour to serve you! Good lucky if you have hungry kids with you.
I do not recommend for families with young kids! It took them almost 1 hour (55mn to be exact) to get 2 burgers and 2 kids menus ready! I do get that its lunchtime, but 50mn! I am still waiting while writing my review :) will update if we hit the 1 hour mark, which will not be surprising, lol. Cannot talk about food quality, but when kids are hungry, that comes after lol. UPDATE: indeed 1 hour + food was mediocre and no apology
Boy how slow their service is! 1 hour to get an order for 2 adults and 2 kids. And no one comes to let you know that there will be a delay, or offer something for the hungry kids (who teansform to mo stars when they are hungry). After 1 hour, the food is below average at best! Food
$20 for a dry burger that you can get for 3x less in a snack bar, and at least it wont be dry. The fries were good, but it seems that the kitchen forgot to salt them.

Comfort food at its best! I dunno what kind of potatoes they re using but they serve the best fries I ve ever tasted. OUT OF THIS WORLD! Nachos and fried chicken sandwiches are winners as well. The atmosphere is so cool with the edgy artwork. The service is friendly and attentive. A home away from home

The food is so good and made in-house, must try the caramel cheesecake, made in house and tastes so good! The owner is very kind and accommodating and there is always new and beautiful art to look at and to buy here! If you enjoy art, good food, and live music, you will love it here!

We actually went for the entertainment, so the dinner menu wasnt our objective. I did enjoy my chicken burger by my poutine side was disappointing. The fries and gravy were lukewarm, so the cheese curds didnt melt. Many people were there early to get a good seat for the show, so the kitchen was probably overwhelmed. I havent figured drinks into the dinner cost.
A nice surprise during a visit on the day of the England-France match. While visiting the region, our friends took us there for lunch. After a beautiful hike, a small but delicious brasserie lunch served by a robust and friendly waiter. We are definitely going back. The atmosphere remained pleasant even if sometimes enthusiastic...with good reason!

Im always really happy to come to Au Troquet. The waitresses and waiters are always on top. The place is really great in Hull. I find that the value for money is really good. I really recommend this place.

Great little restaurant on the pedestrian street. Pleasant to eat there in the evening in summer when it is hot. On the other hand, I found the portion of Poutine and the hamburger a little small. At least the food is very good and the atmosphere is warm and friendly!

Wow, Im showing up for one of their comedy evenings, since they announced that Sonia Bélanger was going to be there (my favorite up-and-coming comedian, btw!), then finally they tell me that she wont be there! Really not very professional!

Overall an average and passable resto/bar. Food wasnt as good as the price point suggested. Better spots just about anywhere else in the area.

We went there to try their highly recommended French Onion Soup. Very disappointed to hear its not on their summer menu. We didnt stay. The hostess was nice, but not being able to get what we went for defeated our visit. Very busy & loud patios as they sit in the middle of several restaurants.

A serious problem with bees we were eating and there were 6 of them at the same time which bothered us. One in the beer, one in the nachos, one in the poutine, etc.
The servers were lovely but severely understaffed, so the service wasn t great and they messed up our orders. The food was disgusting, I didn t think it was possible to mess up a hot dog but I m still feeling sick 48 hours later. The patio is in a great location but not worth it.

New review: Still fantastic. Some of the changes due to Covid has brought out the best, including at Le Troquet. Try the Bavette de Boeuf Poutine! Also inexpensive-excellent red wines! Not pretentious. Good basic food. Great service. The specials are the best.

A must-visit café in Gatineau. Excellent choice of beers. Some vegetarian options (but not vegan since everything has cheese) on the menu. Several activities on the calendar (movie evenings, comedy, slam, etc.) I like the fact that we can talk there for hours. Warning: there is too much goat cheese in the hamburger (ask for a reduced portion or remove part) and insufficient amount of salsa with the nachos ($2 for an additional quantity!!!).

This is a very nice spot and the server was nice but we did takeout and even double checked if there was cheese on the burgers and they did not give either of us cheese burnt burger too. For nearly $25 after tipping its not worth it at all

Pleasant dinner in a nice area (only pubs). Very friendly welcome. A slightly elevated musical atmosphere, but nothing prohibitive. The prices are reasonable. The dishes and deserts are homemade. A large selection of local beers on tap or bottle is offered.
Food was fantastic!!! BUT the waiter ordered the wrong dish, knew he made the mistake and made us pay for it. Then served a watered down coffee. Couldnt own up to it. So sad, that some people cant be authentic.

The nachos were a bit bland but the service was excellent. Despite the large crowd and weather outside it didnt get too hot or muggy in the restaurant.

We went, table for 6 people, back patio. We waited over an hour for our plates after we placed our order, we had two children at the table. When the dishes arrived they were very lukewarm. We reflected on this to our hostess. There werent that many people in the restaurant to wait for such a long time. In short, the dishes are no longer what they were before. Very disappointed, I dont think well go back.

There were 4 customers in this place and 2 servers... all 4 of us customers were stuck waiting with empty drinks and waiting for bills. Fellow at the bar, literally in front of the bartender had an empty beer so I asked him what was going on... he had asked for another Heineken twice he said in both languages and was still waiting. Our table was English, guy at the bar was French so bad customer service in both languages. We wont be back. Girls that work here are extremely pretty though.
Excellent Italian pizza with lots of interesting choices. Wide selection of wines and a few beers on tap. Service was great and sitting on the patio was relaxing, excellent that its on a walking street for the low noise. Though it wasnt officially on the menu, their barrista pulled off a decent caffe machiato, which is hard to get in North America.

One of Gatineau/hulls best kept secrets! Food is fresh and tastes great! Caesar salads highly recommended, as are the burgers (and beer!). Over the last 15 years, I surely cant say that Ive had a bad meal or bad experience at this place. The food is always fantastic, the beer selection is on point, coffee is so aromatic and tasty, and the people are just tops! You cant go wrong with a stop at this place.

After a long day of work I decided to go and fill my stomach with a good burger. They have a good variety of microbrewery beers that will appeal to all tastes. For me it was a boreal ipa from the northeast. The burger was excellent served with fries and spicy mayonnaise. The service was very good. The courteous and kind employee. The place was very clean.

Very disappointing! Mojitos tasted just like soda, they must have forgotten the rum and sugar cane!! Poutine with overcooked flank steak served on a gelatinous cold sauce!! Very disappointing! The waitress asked me if I liked it and when I wanted to tell her that it was cold she was already serving my colleague who still had the fork in her mouth .

Ordinary food and really expensive for two paninis and a hamburger at the level of a fast food... In addition, even if the waitress was nice, but the service is terribly slow...more than an hour to get our three sandwiches. The waitress should have informed us that the waiting time was too long... Really very disappointing... Too bad.

One of the most important gastronomic spots in Old Hull whose reputation has already been established for years. Located near the Alexandra Bridge. The food is excellent and the service is simply friendly and personalized. The quality is there! I highly recommend it to everyone!

Looking for a good time in this artist inspired bar, this is the place to go. For comedy, jazz, poetry, great food and awesome service. Youll feel elsewhere and forget that youre downtown Hull for a night. Great place to bring a date. ;)
