Restaurant Caramela in Gatineau

I placed an order for a Goatmeal dish and it was not of good quality. The meat was very tough. The article felt like it was wet. Zero taste. The texture of the dish left to be desired. Look at the images yourself. This is exactly how I received my dish. No more orders for me from this restaurant.

A good atmosphere in a modern decoration. The only negative point was the service which lacked professionalism.

Quite disappointing African restaurant with excessive prices for ordinary dishes.

I loved it . The meal was delicious. Really like the flavor of Africa. The boss and his brother were really very welcoming. The interior is truly wow. Reservations are available for birthdays, weddings, etc. Its an ideal place. For opening and closing hours, consult their Google page or website. I was in the Caramela restaurant, that of Saint Joseph. Thank you for the service despite our delay, you welcomed us and served us.

Whether dine-in or take-out, I have always enjoyed this restaurant. They care about customer satisfaction. Welcome, atmosphere and tasty meals. Ive been going there for a few years, I recommend it without hesitation. Thank you Caramela and good luck

first we waited two hours for chicken and uncooked meat, there was two music playing at the same time, they spoke badly to us, they ruined my mothers party, they thought my mother couldnt pay when she was just complaining about the bad service.

So me and my Family got the food but it was very Cold and is raw food. caramels do better

If there was 0 star that s what I would give !it was our first time going there and we were so excited to try their food but We got there at 6pm and ordered food, we waited almost 3hours and left at 8:30 without our order !!!!no one came to even apologize. additional to that we got moved two times telling us that they made a mistake the table we were sitting at were reserved!!! I realised that you get back to who gave you 5 stars and never bother about whoever gave you less than 5! Please save your business! you can do better.. Clean the snow from the entrance!

Very poor service. I strongly advise against it, I was very disappointed and I regret my money, the horrible drink I wont even tell you, I didnt even touch it. In any case if I had been warned I wasnt going to waste my time and money.

The food is catastrophic (mediocre) and its the same for the reception, the ingredients for the drinks are too archaic and the latter are neither good knowing that the costs are not to be borne by everyone, I advise you against it and thats it. was my first and last time going there.

As absolute gringos, we weren t sure what to het ourselves into, and we were zero disappointment! Top tier food in terms of quality!! I d recommend this to everybody.

Friend had a private birthday party last weekend, staff was friendly overall good experience, great little spot to hang out, not too crowded, can have intimate seating if you desire.

Need of improvement in service

We sat for over an hour waiting for our dish. There were only two of us. We had to go see the boss to find out when we would be served. The food was good, but everything smacked of amateurism. Too bad, the atmosphere was good and the waitress was very nice, but you really shouldnt be in a hurry.

The fish was dry. Impossible to tear it into pieces, let alone chew it and swallow it. The first time I ordered there it was very good but this time it was a failure. I prefer not to take the risk anymore and I am eliminating this restaurant from my future and regular orders.

Bad service, lack of professionalism, very rude waitresses who think that everything is men are there for them. They dont have fair prices for their goods, there are hygiene problems. I went to buy to support our black community, unfortunately it was sad. DON T DARE BUY FROM THIS RESTAURANT!!!

I usually get the BBQ chicken but my last order on Jan 24, 21, the chicken was undercooked.

Worst service I have ever had. Theres no point in booking days in advance since we did and they didnt have any tables reserved for us. Also when we arrived, we encountered another group who were leaving because the table had been assigned to another. Anyways, after 20 minutes of waiting they gave us a table and the owner came to stop the waiter from taking our orders and she said she would take care of it. She told us that the kitchen had just closed (7:30 p.m.) but that we could have steaks, sambusa or chicken wings. We said to ourselves that we couldnt leave without taking anything since we were already there and we agreed to order from these 3 choices and suddenly she ghosted us! She completely ignored us while she was in front of us and left despite our cries for help for her. In summary, we spent more than an hour there for nothing. Lack of customer service and worse, lack of professionalism.

OMG the worst restaurant I have ever experienced in my life, the worst food I have eaten. The rice was not cooked at all (it looks like plastic), I ordered chicken and it looks like they were cooked in water, the plantains were filled with oil, not to mention that the order arrived after like 2 hours of time. The food is unhealthy. How you can open a restaurant and present this kind of food frankly. Please dont order from this restaurant if you want good food. Ps: And we say we don t support black business tell me how you can support that!!!?????????!!!!!??????

The worst restaurant experience. First there was no one to greet us. Waited for over ten minutes before someone showed up. Second, they did not want to give us a menu instead asked us to scan a QR code for the menu. Then, we had to wait for over an hour for our food. When 23$ fish arrived it was small and not cleaned. The smoked spinach was over salty. I did not ate the fish. The restaurant has potential, but as its managed now, going there will be a waste of time and money.

We are still in Caramela and it s a shame that we never took the time to evaluate what good things we received. Sorry to all those people who had a bad experience, because I have seen them! But without flattering them, I always have one of the best times in this restaurant where I especially find the flavors of home and even more! Take a chance, dear customers, by tasting everything so that at the end you have more than one favorite dish! Dont stop to be negative, recognize that Caramela restaurant has its touch of excellence! No sense. A real shame to serve such dishes. We ordered the Caramela Steak and the Braised Half Chicken. The steak should have been called Steak Cramé instead of Caramela. It was so dark and way overcooked. The chicken was so braised that it was burnt and way overcooked. The fries were cold when served. When the chicken meat approaches the grayish color it is because it has been more than overcooked. Not edible. Dont go there because you will easily waste $75 for 2. For the others, enjoy your meal. Me never again.

Greatest restaurant in town, owner and the servers are the most hospitable people! Jennifer and Delicia treated us like Kings and Queens!! Great experience, food was amazing and the drinks as well! Would recommend anyone who hasn t been to go and have a good time!

The place and decoration is perfect! The service is very poor. Long time waiting, 30 minutes changed in one hour and half! no one to respond the calls for making orders! Food: The chicken was bad! It was cotsco barbecue in microwave! But the spinach and smoked fish was perfect!

I really like this restaurant, one of the waitresses is super helpful. Their super tender meat I wont get tired of eating there... only problem is the customer service which is really lousy, no one ever answers the phone so if you want to book (Good luck) the waiters are not trained in the ethics of table service when the customer arrives after having set up his table and before asking him if he wants something from the menu it is always necessary to bring water this allows customers to wait more comfortably given the time that the meal takes before arriving. Apart from that its a nice place with a nice atmosphere on the weekend you must like the maquis to go eat at caramela on Friday or Saturday because its very noisy.

The service was very poor, the waitress kept forgetting what we asked her for sometimes she wouldn t even bring it .The food took forever to come and by the time we got it ;it was cold and wasn t grilled.I was really disappointed and unsatisfied.I don t think i can recommend it nor go back there again .

The food is good but the service needs to be improved. The server did not know the menu, the tables were not well cleaned neither were the floor.

3 times at the restaurant with poor service. 2.5 hours of waiting to finally have the fish almost burnt with dirt inside! And yesterday we waited another 2.5 hours to learn that our order was no longer available. And believing that complaining to the owner was a solution No! He yelled at me saying Im just complaining I was I am and remain lost! Cant explain it to my brain!And we are told to support our African brothers/sisters with their business I thought I would see a change after 2 attempts but it is time to turn my back after my third experience.

Never order on Uber eats with this restaurant I have ordered from them several times the food is good but they have very bad service on 3 occasions I ordered u order errors with them either an item was missing or the order chicken that came halfway DO NOT ORDER WITH UBER EATS A MISTAKE OK BUT 3 it becomes a scam I have ordered more than 10 times in this restaurant via Uber eats really disappointing one thing is for sure I will never order again but then never at your place

Order was tainted, both my partner and I got extremely, extremely sick from chicken we ordered from here. It was undercooked and probably mis-handled. One of us had to go to hospital as a result of eating here.

I usually dont write bad reviews, but this place stuck out to me enough to warrant writing one. To start, the service was horrible. We seated ourselves, grabbed our own menus, and when it came time to order, we were told that our choices of food were out of stock. Understandable, but you should always tell your customers whats not available before they make a decision. I opted for the tilapia, rice as a side and taquitos. Im a little confused as to why Mexican food is served at an African place, let alone COSTCO brand taquitos. My girlfriend had boneless chicken. Despite being the only people in the restaurant, we waited around 40 minutes for our food, which turned out to be some of the worst food Id ever eaten. The seasoned rice was very oily and tasted flavourless. Not only that, but the rice was served piping hot in a very hot bowl. The only way to achieve this is by MICROWAVING old rice. Ugh. The tilapia was served as a whole fish, gutted and fried. Unfortunately it was old and devoid of all moisture and flavour. Not only that, but the boneless chicken my girlfriend ordered had bones in it!
