10431 100 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB T8V 2Z6, Canada
The restaurant is small a very clean 5 out of 5. But the food stood out I know nothing about Korean food and the waitress was a big help. What I ended up ordering was some of the best food I have eaten in GP since I moved here in August. I have not paid yet and I’m already dreaming about what I want to try next time I come back.
I've driven by this place for weeks, meaning to stop in. I'm so glad I did. Nicely decorated inside and very clean. They were playing smooth jazz and the atmosphere was fabulous. The server was very attentive and kind. Excellent service. We ordered the rice bowls, I had the squid. The rice was well covered by the sauce and in perfect proportion to the squid. Usually you get a big heap of rice with a small bit of whatever on top at most restaurants. It came with a miso-type soup and a selection of kimchi. The flavours were excellent and the food left us feeling great. Not bloated or still hungry at all. Its really cool that this old building is back in action and we have a lovely, first Korean restaurant in Grande Prairie.
Authentic Korean food in Grande Prairie! - from someone who’s travelled around Korea. Will definitely be back to try other dishes.
The food is incredible. The staff is amazing. Absolutely love this place. To go from Jimmy's Liquor to this restaurant is pretty amazing. It's a cute little restaurant. The music, completely awful, wish they could find something different. They will help show you proper ways to enjoy Korean dishes, love that. Prices are beyond reasonable. They have no problems in offering you more sides. As a lover of Korean food, beyond happy we have this here now. I know it won't fly up here, but really hope gopchang ends up on the menu. Also, a choice of spice level would be nice, would like some of the dishes to be much spicier. But overall, the fact we have this wonderful establishment in GP is so welcome.
We had a lovely dining experience. Our food was fast, hot, and flavourful. The service was prompt, polite, and warm. We were given generous portions and encouraged to try all the accoutrement to get the most out of our meals. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit overall. Thank you for the delicious meal Hallyu!
A wonderful little restaurant in Grande Prairie. Korean food is quite distinct and Hallyu does it justice. The restaurant itself has a cozy atmosphere, feeling more like visiting friends then a typical dining experience. The building itself is a little run down, but the feel is still great. We got our whole meal withing 20 minutes of ordering. An amazing response time for a restaurant like this. The staff was friendly and even helped coach us on the proper pronunciation of the items we ordered. Which I appreciate, but others may find off-putting. The meals are a little pricey but they give you so much food. Definitely bring friends and share.
Absolutely delicious, it wasn’t long until the food arrived probably 10 minutes after we ordered. The side dishes were nice, the food we ordered only came with one rice bowl however the kind service lady insisted on giving us another rice bowl for free. They made sure to check up on everyone dining. Definitely coming back, the food was great and so was the service!
Ordered and got our food in 10-15min! I got the pork rice bowl. It was a little simple, but it was tasty. The chicken stew is tasty and good portion. We got a complimentary miso soup. The atmosphere is clean and bright but no music which is kind of odd. The service was pretty good, just took a while to get our drinks, and the utensils didn't come with the food 😂 The prices include tax which is nice, so a meal is affordable. Overall I am curious and will try more dishes.
Friendly staff, great food. Will eat again
Way too salty and greasy, not much fresh green, only have a bit of vegetable covered in greasy deep fry and in greasy stew. Kimchi is highly sodium. Thus, no balance between heavy and light taste. Very thirsty after the meal.
Always the best service! Plus the staff are always excited to share their culture. It s my fave restaurant in GP
Delicious, super friendly, great prices! Highly recommend!!
Just had the pork and rice soup. Delicious! 100 percent recommend!
Amazing food, the flavors were soooo good, well definitely be back, cant wait to try more dishes.
Fantastic food, was difficult to choose as it all looked so good so will be back to try other dishes for sure. Great waitress super friendly and funny. Good size portions and reasonably priced.
The food was amazing, the service was very polite and wonderful and the atmosphere was very relaxing. Overall a pleasant experience
Great customer service, excellent food.
Loved it, we havent eaten much Korean food before the waiter gave us some really helpful advice. Service was unbelievably good.
I have never been to Korea and had Korean food from there, but this meal felt very authentic and if nothing else was very very delicious. The server was extremely helpful and friendly and made the experience so pleasant and comfortable. I would recommend this place to anyone who would like to eat comforting food in a welcoming place. I would most definitely visit this restaurant again anytime I would be looking for a great dining experience.
The food is very great!
Wife and I shared the chicken and dumplings for an appetizer and also got the pork cutlet curry and the chicken and rice meal all were very good. Service was quick and friendly, with a warm friendly atmosphere.
Very pleased we finally have a Korean restaurant in Grande Prairie. It fully surpassed our expectations and we will definitely return. My daughters favorite dish Tteokbokki was very well done and had a great level of spice. Another family favorite is Bossam. The portion was more than large enough for the family to share and it was definitely the best Ive ever had. We tried something new tonight too. Sujebi was great, I think we have another favorite. Staff were very pleasant and took great care of us. Look forward to eating here again.
Super friendly and helpful staff and delicious food
I don t often leave reviews but the food was excellent! Friendly staff who even threw our soda in for free!! Portion to price wise was beyond fair ! Highly recommend!
amazing food and excellent service! my favourite dish was the gimbap and i m incredibly grateful for the complimentary soda that was offered. will definitely be back again!
The older lady staff in this restaurant was extremely rude and pushy with her service, keep interrupting us during the meal and reminding us they re closing soon( which was 9:34, they closes at 10) and that we need to leave soon. Witch this awful atmosphere of dining time, we decided not to give any tips on top of the bills. To our complete surprise, the older lady who was far outed line during the dine-in experience; run after us after we payed and already gotten into our vehicle, and came pounding on our window and demands for tips . She went on for a 5 minute rant to lecture us about our late leaving time and our decision on not giving any tips. During her angry lecture, she used some factors of that were we re supposed to leave the restaurant early so she doesn t have to pay her staff for overtime?? Accompanied with the fact that there s 2/3 of us that s not white Canadian so she assumed we don t understand the idea of tipping and strongly highlighted on the point of because we re in Canada, so you have to tip . And after I reminded her that it s harassment to charge after customer and trying to barge into a car, she then gotten offended and told us to never come back . Which gladly, we won t ever. Absolute joke of decency in this place.
Ive been meaning to come Here since it opened, and I finally did today and I am so happy I did, dont let the area of town fool you, this place has such a beautiful atmosphere, the food is incredible, and the staff are so kind and were really helpful in understanding how to eat the food as its meant to be eaten, just a wonderful experience, my new favorite dining spot by far! Prices are so reasonable and portions are generous.
The food is really good, I ll come here again for sure
I really enjoyed the food at this Korean restaurant. It tasted very authentic and reminded me of being back in Korea. The service was pleasant, and our order was delivered promptly
The customer service was amazing, very kind and helpful staff. Will definitely be going back!
Amazing food, amazing staff, easy 5 stars
Delicious food, friendly staff! Will definitely be coming back!
Bring lots of friends or a big appetite ! So much to choose from . Delish! And lots of leftovers !
Kid-friendliness: The servers were great with kids. Very helpful and informative. The server helped a young girl and showed her how to eat her meal. Very family-friendly. Food
Slow service. Kimchi is too salty
Yummy and healthy food. Ill be back
Everything was so great! The owner is so sweet and she even gave us extra rice with our takeout and was very interactive. we were sat immediately and wait time was very quick, lots of delicious options and the atmosphere of the restaurant was also great The food was amazing and authentic, I especially love it because there is virtually no other korean restaurants in GP So amazing and will definitely be going again! we got the jjajangmyeon , deokkbokki and chicken jiggae!! highly recommend the deokkbokki and chicken stew, it was so tender
Bibimbap was delicious. Great service. Nice atmosphere
Food was great. Good customer service. Will definitely come back.
Food was amazing, staff were helpful and kind! Good service.
This place slaps. Great food. Servers were cool. Some people in the reviews havent gotten out of gp and it shows.
Everything about this place is rad as hell. The food is so good. The portions are massive. The prices are fantastic
Amazing food and service!
The Korean Lady is the main problem of the restaurant. The way she handles service is below mediocre. Shed take your order and get half of it right. (For context we ordered Korean Fried Chicken and got chicken balls instead, the rest was ok), then shed forget the drinks you asked for. (Had to remind her what we wanted). But here comes the worst part. She kept treating us like idiots who doesnt eat Korean food. She kept saying this comes with this and that is paired with this. And asked You know how to eat?. My girlfriend and coworkers were uncomfortable with the way she handles her service. Then she checked on us for the last time and mixed the fresh Samgyupsal (It was old and precooked instead of the ones you have to cook yourself) with the leftover Bossam we had in the cooking pan. She ruined the quality and presentation of the food by mixing everything together like pig food. Would definitely not recommend going at this place. Takara is a much better option.
Went 2 times to give this place another chance. The first time being the soft launch where it took 2 hrs before anyone asked to take our order, the waiters telling us theyll come back to take our orders each time we asked. When the food did arrive, we were given no utensils or any tools to cook our food to the point where the table beside us offered to give their tongs and scissors. The korean lady also kept yelling at her staff where you can hear the staff asking her to calm down. Went the second time to see if anything changed now that the place had calmed down but was left disappointed when the same korean lady started mixing our food in the same pan as the samgyupsal. We were left dumbfounded as she mixed all our different food we ordered and started cooking it for us. Asking us if we knew how to eat the food weve been eating, also kept giving us rice that we didnt order and when i asked her if it was free she said theres a charge for it?
Glad to have another restaurant to add to the diversity of grande prairie s food choices. I don t know if people are aware that it s a new restaurant and saying that, it needs time to adjust. I ordered two dishes and they came out in a timely manner and the staff were very hospitable. There may be a language barrier at times but it adds to the authenticity of a food from a different culture trying to share with the monotone landscape of GP s food choices. Some of these dishes you can t eat unless you drive to Edmonton.
Finally a Korean Restaurant in GP - something I ve missed since moving from a larger city centre. The food was delicious and a real taste of home for me! It does not get more authentic than Hallyu. I will be back & can t wait to take my family when they come to visit.
The food was very authentic, the service was friendly/helpful and felt very personal
Service is much better now! And the food is still great!
Really tasty cuisine and selection, and I couldn t believe the price . and the service was spectacular. Looking forward to coming back! Food
I have good experience here all the time, they have good food and tasty. Recommend for all people who wanna try Korean Cusine in town.
i like the owner, she is very friendly and attentive
This first korean restaurant . eventhough somw time they forget my odder but the food really delicious, like orginal korean food .. atmosphere so great :) .. i big fan restaurant !!
Attentive staff, saw people saying the older korean woman was pushy but i don t feel she was she was very helpful and got stuff out quick and helped clear tables quick. Quick service, lots of free sides and good food. Hopefully with time menu will expand but it s been great so far!
Delicious! Reasonably priced and great service! Will definitely go again.
Very good Korean food!! Owner is very nice and friendly staff
I am only giving one star today as we were not able to eat the food unfortunately. We came in at 621pm and had ordered our food. About 10 mins in our server handed us 1 dish which it was not ours. We continued to wait. We noticed a few more people coming in and some of them we knew and they have been seated. About 30 mins in a different lady comes to our table and asked what we ordered, I then repeated my order and continued to wait (still no drinks). 45 mins in again the same lady came back and once again asked the same question I then at this point repeated my ordered and asked if we can have our drinks at least. We then finally received our drinks and continued to wait. 50 mins in I then noticed our friends table has received their food and we were 10 mins ahead of them. I then finally went to the counter to ask how much longer for our food and they could not give me an answer. As I walked back to our table I noticed another table we were ahead of has received and finished their food. When I noticed that the couple who just walked in got their food first before we did. I drew the line and we walked. 1 hr and 10mins and My 2 year old daughter was super hungry and we could not wait any longer. I heard good things about the food but maybe we will wait when they were more organized.
Great tasting food! Just need to have better communication between servers and kitchen staff. Getting an order through the phone is basically impossible. Had to personally visit the place for take out as the person who answered the phone didnt call me back even though they told me they would call me back.
Authentic Korean food in GP! Finally! The food tastes just like Korea and I lived there for two years. It s nice to finally get a real Korean restaurant in town.
It was authentic, delicious and fast. Will definitely be back.
Authentic Korean menu. Delicious food that perfectly captures the tastes of the Korean palate.
Waited 45 minutes and left. The lady and child beside us had been waiting almost a hour. Had to ask for a menu, no water, no nothing. The lady beside us was given a menu and nothing else. A table of ten came in well after us and were waited on before myself and the table beside me. Multiple groups of people came in and left without food. So to summarize the service is horrible and I have no idea what the food is like.
Sad to leave this review. The food here seems great, wonderful flavour and very authentic. But the old ajuuma running the front makes it impossible to like. Pushy and rude, actually reaching out and touching your food and mixing things together on the plate like you are a child who doesn t know how to eat. Also aggressively refusing to recognize any fault. Most people will never return here and I am one of them.
The food was tasty, although it looked nothing like what I ordered. Nicely renovated inside. The older Korean lady serving us was kind of pushy and rude and did not understand what we wanted. She was also rude to staff that appeared to be doing well and understood what we wanted. She also came over and grabbed my friends utensils and started scooping his food and somewhat aggressively putting it in his mouth and telling him how to eat. A coworker experienced this 3 times in one visit as well. The food was pricey for the portion size. I will l likely not return due to the uncomfortable force feeding.
Beef ribs served hot on a portable stove...nice We didnt wait long. Foods were served a few minutes right after ordered...about 10 minutes. Very efficient. Free kimchi appetizers...another bonus. Very happy. Will go back again.
I am giving 2 stars because their kimchi was good. I really want to wanna go back to this place, but a bit traumatized from our first visit. We ordered the Samgyeopsal and the Korean style curry (looked similar to the Japanese one) with pork cutlet. What a let down of a place, and if their service doesnt improve, this place will most likely close down. First off the curry. Arrived at our table. Clearly it has been sitting on the pass for a long time. It was cold. Ice cold. Its so cold a film has formed on top of the curry, and the top of the rice is dry. And then theres my order, Tha samgyeopsal. Which traditionally, it comes as a full set meal with Banchan, kimchi, rice, soup, lettuce and ssamjang. Mine arrived. Lady had put down the hot plate and the metal plate that had onions, kitchen, and the pork belly. Im confused. So I asked isnt this supposed to come with rice too? Server said she didnt know, shed ask. Then the rice came. And then I asked again if this is all really that comes with it. I asked the Korean lady where the lettuce is. Because traditionally its a lettuce wrap meal. So disappointed that if I didnt know what came with it, I would have paid for just the slivers of pork, kimchi and raw onion. I literally had to ask for everything that its supposed to come with. One item at a time. We also ordered tteokbokki. That alone shouldnt have taken over half an hour. But it did. Service: SLOW. The time we spent there is the amount of time we would be spending at Earls or Keg. That slow. It was so slow, we debated on leaving. First off, and the most obvious, they opened without training anybody and everybody. Nobody knew what came with what, other than the Korean lady, which I am assuming is the owner. I dont even understand why it took over an hour for our meals to come. The curry sauce should have already been stewing as part of their prep before the start of their service. And mine, mine literally came with raw ingredients. We were quite literally not committed to be there for almost 3 hours. Just ridiculous. Atmosphere. Man. It was bright as a hospital in there. It was so bright. Get yellow soft light. Its easier on everyones eyes, and it would actually make the food look more appealing. I am really hoping they would improve. I love Korean food. And I actually quite liked their kimchi. If I knew they were going to be this slow. I would have just ordered rice and kimchi because their kimchi is actually pretty good. Would I go back? Oh man, I dont know. If I do, it would be a while. Just to give them time to actually improve. I typically post reviews after Ive been to a place multiple times and have tried multiple items on the menu. The service is making me never want to go back.
I ordered chicken balls...not sure of the real name. While I waiting they brought me a bowl of miso soup...probably the best miso I have ever had. I got my order then they added rice and a small noodle, Seaweed and bread side. I got a hot sauce and a mayo dipping sauce. Extraordinary taste and fantastic service! Cant wait to try other dishes.
Excellent food, fresh ingredients and generous portions.
Glad to have authentic korean food here in GP.
Tasty, authentic korean food but the service is lacking. There are room for improvements such as: Servers must be trained more. I recommend assigning 1 server to 5 tables, then just focus on those tables and check on them from time to time. Our servers were all over the place, they did not have our orders written down so they kept forgetting and gave us wrong dishes three times. Customers must wait to be seated so that staff is aware they arrived. I saw customers who were waiting for more than 20 minutes with no menu, and no one offered beverage/starters. Samgyeopsal should always be served with lettuce and ssamjang. They only gave us the meat and thats it. The serving was so small for 25 dollars. The portable stove had lots of problems as well - it kept turning off, the grill wont stay in place, and it took forever to cook thin sliced meats. Water jugs instead of bottled water Too noisy. Please keep it down. Play some music for a better ambiance. Thats all. I am giving 5 stars for now since they just opened recently. Good luck to this restaurant. I will be back and hopefully there will be improvements in service.
Great authentic Korean food! Must try. The food is definitely better than the ones in Edmonton
