Montana’s BBQ & Bar in Grande Prairie

It was really great, very nice service in a great atmosphere. The food was great!!!

Came in tonight December 2, 2024 for a date night for the girlfriend and I. We had a reservation for 8:30pm so we got seated pretty quickly since it was pretty dead for a Monday night of course. The hostess was great, told us about the half price wings and that our waitress would be right with us. Fast forward about 5-10 minutes our waitress by the name of Nav came to our table and took our drink order without a notepad, who then ended up coming back 2-5minutes later to confirm my girlfriends drink order. Fast forward roughly 10 minutes we finally got our drinks and then placed our order for an appetizer and our main meals. Appetizer came quick with our main meals coming right after finishing the appetizer. No complaints food wise as all of it was delicious. We were only checked up on once just to see if the food was okay basically, all the other times was asking if were wanted more drinks when it was clear our glasses were still full basically. It was giving the girlfriend the vibe of her being a bit pushy and trying to rack up our bill just on drinks. Fast forward to us finishing our food, we asked for the bill and machine. When our waitress Nav came back to the table with the machine, it took a her a few seconds to hand the machine over to me as she was doing something with it but when she did pretty slowly, she nonchalantly started to the typical conversation of Any plans for the rest of the night? with the girlfriend while I dealt with the bill. Well, to say the least I know what she was doing with the machine. She basically ended up shutting up when she physically watched me go back to the tipping screen to take off the tip that she added on herself of basically $16 on our $70-80 bill which ended up being like $97 with the tip she added on. Her mistake was handing me the machine on the breakdown screen otherwise I probably would ve just glazed right over it. I usually tip a constant 20% every time we go out but this time the girlfriend and I thought of 10% max as it was sub-par service in our opinions considering we ve had much better service here every time prior. So I ended up going back to the tipping screen like I stated to put our 10% tip in which was $7 and some change, not $16. Now that I think about it, I shouldn t of tipped anything for that shadiness and should ve just asked for the Manager but didn t really think of it since we just wanted to head home. Call me crazy but, I don t think that s common practice to add your own tip whatsoever. So note to self and future patrons, maybe start double checking the machine before you pay, especially if you plan on a cash tip afterwards and end up double tipping. Just thought I would write this review as I will also be making a pitstop at the restaurant tomorrow afterwork to bring this experience up to a Manager about this shady behaviour as this review may or may not be seen.

Meh, chain restaurants are so boring lol. This place has friendly staff, its clean and the food was good...what more can a person ask for.

Great place for date night!!

I brought the family here on Oct 24/24. Usually it s good but not on this night. I ordered the 10oz sirloin with baked potato and coleslaw. The coleslaw was the only thing eatable on my plate. My steak was the worst cut of meat I ever saw. Completely full of hard fat and veins. I could hardly cut through it. Our waitress was supper awesome. She got me another steak. The second steak was better but not by much. Half of it was eatable. The other half same thing. Bad cut full of hard fat and veins. My baked potato was good on the inside. Cold but cooked. The potato skin was like leather. Overcooked and hard to chew. I ended up just eating the inside. All this did not take away from the great service we received. Our waitress was supper great. Even though the cut of meats were terrible. It was still cooked as I asked for. The family enjoyed their meal. Having a toddler sitting in the high booths would not have been our first choice. It was very busy so availability did factor in. All in all was a good visit but my plate was definitely not worth $30.99 and I never got a full 10oz of steak. From this experience I would not recommend the steak or baked potato.

Absolutely Shameful experience from the moment we stepped into the restaurant in Grande Prairie, Alberta. We had reserved a booth and asked FOUR times on the phone to make sure that we would get the restaurant side. Got to the front desk at 6:30 pm on Saturday with 5 younger women just standing there. We were told that our reservation was for the lounge/bar side. Again, we asked for the restaurant side as per our reservation request but were told there was no tables available. We were seated at a booth in the bar side. Then we got an EXTREMELY rude female server (M) She gave us our menus. Found out very quickly that there was no Rickards Red beer. Then while she passed our table we were ignorantly told by the same server that there was no brisket. 6:30 PM and none of the famous barbeque cuisine brisket available?! 2 1/2 hours since opening for dinner. We ordered drinks and spinach dip which took 20 minutes to arrive to the table. This dinner was supposed to be a celebration of our sons graduation of his second year at the college but turned out to be VERY VERY disappointing. The quickest response that we received from the staff was that the supervisor brought our bill to be paid before we could even start eating the appetizer. If we could the rating would be MINUS 5.

The food is phenomenal and proper good sized portions. The staff are amazing. Very kind ladies who were attentive to serving. Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich is delicious - especially when you add the maple bbq sauce! Hot, fresh and tastes homemade. Nice atmosphere, and more importantly the restaurant is clean and well maintained.

A fantastic place for an evening with good food and a lovely atmosphere. Had wings and the steak, compliments to the chefs who prepared it. And great service by Dave, she was so friendly and made it more enjoyable.

This is my first time having a negative experience at this location. I had the regular Rib & Wing combo and my wife had the Chicken Burrito Bowl. Portion sizes were small. The chicken breast seemed like it was cut in half it was so thin. Fries were not fresh and the wings were dry.again the rib size was small as well. The service was very poor. Went the whole meal without being checked on and no drink refills. We had to stand up and go to the greater to ask for our bill after waiting for quite a while with empty plates and cups. The manager came about 8 minutes later ,as we were still standing and waiting, he had the debt machine and not even the bill which I had to ask for and only got a copy of after I had to pay. Not once did the manager ask how anything was or apologize for the wait. The restaurant wasn t even a quarter full. We never saw our waitress after our food was set on the table without utensils. Now, the neighbouring table had a great waitress .to bad she wasn t ours . We ended up going elsewhere for desert as we were still hungry.

We love Montana s GP! We return often because we always receive great service, great food and it fills our family for a great price! Highly recommend

Delicious ribs! Austin cheesesteak was literally mind blowing bro! Canadian burger was everything a Canadian girl dreams of! The smoked chicken nachos were authentic and tangy!

Ordered a steak medium rare. Closer to the rare side, got a medium well steak. I don t usually send food back but this was over done. Took another 20 minutes for the second meal to come out and it was definitely rare. I cut into the steak and I thought it was the toughest cut of meat I ve had in a long time. Nope. Just a really dull steak knife. I had to use my pocket knife to cut my steak because the second knife they brought me was more dull than the first one. Waitress was apologetic but we had to wait for the person that brought our desert to bus our table.

The food was excellent, service was also excellent. For being called Montanas and remembering what the restaurant was like when it opened, could have been more western-themed.

Had a great meal of Ribs, beans and coleslaw. Delaney was our server and she is on the ball. Excellent service !!!! Nice to see some restaurant staff really trying to make people enjoy going out again ! Food was good. Service was 5 star

Arrived in town to escape the busy tourist scene in Canmore and first to welcome us in GP is Gabby who was an awesome server. She was fast at taking our order and made sure we had everything we need for dinner. Food arrived in no time and the ribs were fleshly cooked.

Tough place to get a seat at 13:00 hrs and a server as well

This review was taken down but the public needs to hear this!!!! Overheard the manager on duty order his staff to clean the BLACK MOLD out of the cooler WITHOUT TAKING THE FOOD OUT of cooler first... I couldnt bring myself to order food so I just had a couple of drinks and left.

This is the second time in the last couple of months we have been there. If you use an ama card for a 10% discount they increase the price of your meal by at least 10%. Really disappointed you have to scam your customers like this!

We ve been here several times since discovering they have the spinach dip with the fried pitas (do yourself a favour and order it for an appie, ask for all pitas, it s so good!). Food is always great, service is awesome!

I came here for dinner with my girlfriend, as we entered she tried to greet the male host and she was actively ignored. The host only spoke to me and looked at me throughout the interaction. This made our experience at first very off putting and rude, you should teach your hosts to be more welcoming to ALL people not just to men. Although our experience with our server was excellent, I believe her name was Maddison, she completely turned our impression around.

Our waitress was Kaylee and she was fantastic! She was all smiles, polite and charismatic!

The restaurant was exceptionally busy when I arrived to pick up a meal. The team of staff were all trying their best to help each customer. There were a few errors with my order, but the manager, Howard, was superb as he quickly fixed one of the errors. I arrived home and found a few more items missing. It was a little bit upsetting and I called the restaurant. The staff were very responsive and respectful. The manager requested me to return back and they went above and beyond to make sure that my family and I had stellar experience with Montana. Overall, beyond impressed by the dedication and service by the team Thank you Montana for taking care of your customers even when its a to-go order!

Always a great experience with Montanas in Grande Prairie! The portions are large, the food is good, and our servers are always so pleasant. Whether its dine in or take out, were always happy with our meals.

This is my husband s favourite place to eat when we come to Grande Prairie. He loves the chicken and rib combo with apple butter bbq sauce.. I usually try something different every time great food and great service!!!

Our visit started off a little rough but the food was amazing and Cliff made the whole experience right. You wont find a better person to deal with in the restaurant business. We will definitely be going back

The bartender was fast to take our order and friendly. The food was awful though. I got the buttermilk fried chicken. It was missing the cornbread. The green beans still had stems on them. I got one very thin sliced pepper that was cold. The chicken had been sitting and the portion was small.

Anhitos were a Lilly cheap with the cheese but were still good (new guys lol) waitress was a little add but was please t to deal with we said no croutons on our salad and it came with croutons. She totally stood up and took responsibility. I liked that no one is perfect and I get it at 7 on a Saturday night. Well done guys we will be back to use our gift certificates we received for the f-up I recommend!

Montanas is always our go to place for nights out. Great service, good eats, friendly faces.

Playoff hockey Oilers vs Dallas and the staff were not allowed to play the audio from the hockey game. Instead we had to listen to the boring corporate playlist, this is very anti Alberta and Canadian. We live in oil country, I don t see the harm in pausing the Jonas brothers to listen to the oilers game for 3 hours. Please Montana s change this policy for every hardworking man and woman who want to sit down and enjoy a good meal with there family while they enjoy some good old fashioned oilers play off hockey.

Montanas has become one of our favorites in GP for a mid range family meal. Staff are friendly, the servings of food are HUGE and tasty, and theres not usually a long wait to get a table unless its a holiday. Highly recommend.

Took my son to Montanas. Waitress was rushing us along, talking fast and making us uneasy. Food was made by a cook not a chef. It was just run of the mill. Not bad but nothing special. The staff sat two people in the next table with the worst cheap perfume Ive ever smelled and the table was so close I could reach out and touch it with ease. Based on the experience we had that day, 3 stars is generous.

Superb discovery! Big, big strong point of this restaurant is the service; our waitress was just exceptional, smiling, warm, efficient and so kind. Well done ! Went to eat there today and loved the apple butter barbeque sauce. Not a real big rib person but loved these ribs and bought some sauce to take with me to Alaska. Our waitress was amazing too!

Food was great. Service we had was okay but there was one server there that had his long hair hanging in his eyes along with a scruffy black beard Thankfully he never waited on us . I do think if you are going to have that mess of hair and beard you should be at the very least tying your hair back with a net over your beard Food

Beef Rib was excellent. I had it with fries n coleslaw. Fries were barely warm but I talked to server and the send me hot ones. Nice!

I had an amazing time with some friends. I couldn t catch his name sadly, but our server was absolutely amazing. He was fantastic and checked on us lots. Had lots of drinks which was fun. The children I saw looked like they had fun. Also the cookie skillet was amazing. And the mama lemonades!
