530 Muskoka Rd N, Gravenhurst, ON P1P 1G3, Canada
We are closed to provide our hard-working team with a well-deserved break. We will re-open November 20th Thank you!! Gather with friends and family over the inspired flavours of Muskoka at The Oar in Gravenhurst. Celebrating more than 15 years of business in Muskoka. We welcome you to join us for a unique casual dining experience in one of South Muskoka’s favourite local hot spots. Chef Brett and his team have prepared an exciting lunch and dinner menu that offers up traditional and vegetarian dishes from fresh, simple, and tasteful ingredients.
The Oar is a delightful restaurant with great ambience, wonderful fare & exceptional service! Ev was truly wonderful as our server. Polite, personable & professional. Our dinner was superb. Wife/I had the soup, calamari, pork belly/scallops & rainbow trout. Delicious! We had the Earl Grey Creme Brulee for dessert which just capped off great meal! Highly recommend The Oar if you’re in town! Excellent in every manner. Thank you Ev! 💯
Outrageously overpriced! We don't mind waiting 1h (yes, 1 hour) for our food, if the quality justifies it. But in this case, once we finally got our food, it was a slap in the face. The "steak" was a 2.5 inch excuse of a medallion, dry and completely tasteless; the portion size was smaller than the kids' menu items. The stew that was supposed to "blow mind", reminded me of canned food rations, both in taste and presentation, sided with one (yes, 1) brussel sprout, 2 tiny pieces of plantain, 1 even tinier piece of eggplant, and 3 undercooked baby potatoes. The kids' chicken fingers (store bought, frozen, of course) with some fries, and a generic dip was $14! The soup? Nothing to write home about, so don't even bother. This dining experience left a very bad taste in my mouth, both literally and figuratively. The waitress looked genuinely ashamed for charging us $150 for what she served us. A terrible end to a otherwise perfect day in beautiful Muskoka.
Stopped in Tuesday for quick lunch before the boat cruise was pleasantly surprised at vegetarian options for my wife & we both had a great lunch here. Lunch special soup & sandwich very tasty, filling. Pasta salad was nice also. Pretty fair sized place but of course now were sort of off season so wasn't too busy. Well worth the stop here. Kristin was very pleasant server as well. See you again when were in this area
A nice restaurant . First time visit this place. Great service . We have enjoyed a set lunch for a group . The dessert is super good.
Wow I was really pleased with The Oar, we arrived late on a Thursday 7.15 7.25, they close at 8, we were warmly welcomed and shown a choice of tables. We were told we had plenty of time,so just relax. There was an guitarist, David singing, he was good, he did a number of smooth covers. The Clear Water IPA was good and we ordered our food, so many good options so ordered a few of them. Fish Chowder & a bread portion, super tasty Chicken Liver pate, excellent Mussels, delightful Seasonal Salad, we loved its mix Lamb Shank, Moroccan, delicious 😋 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 It was all nicely presented Food was delivered expediently in a friendly manner, we even enquired about dessert, it was past 8, was it possible? yep no problem. Portion size was good, price was reasonable too , yay!
BIRTHDAY - Table for 8 made reservations for 6:15 arrived on time. Not a full house. Had to wait for the main course for over an hour and a half. For the appetizer we waited for an hour. The food was average at best. Onion rings were good! Chicken wings 👎🏻. Fried chicken sandwich was dry. Steak was good. Generally very disappointing, we expected better than this. Hope they do better with others. The mangers gave us a discount due to several issues.
Excellent service and a very nice ambiance. The prices were fair and the portions were excellent. The problem, the Cuban Sandwich was cooked on a panini press, which made the bread as hard as a rock. Plus the Oar Sunrise, which is supposed to have 2oz of tequila, tasted almost alcohol-free.
Oh, I would definitely recommend this place especially on weekends. The manager and the waitress were so helpful and lovely. The food was delicious. The salad was fresh and the chicken sandwich was tasty. Street parking available in front of the restaurant I would definitely recommend a brunch during the weekend. The atmosphere is classic cottage country with wood paneling on the walls, wood flooring, paddle oars on the walls and a wooden bar. Lovely.
All are good, a bit pricey though.
Expensive, small portions.
I cant say anything about the food or the atmosphere. Just came back from the restaurant, which was closed. No notice on their website. Just unbelievable
We ended our day in Muskoka with a lovely dinner at this restaurant, which we discovered by chance and such a wonderful surprise. In addition to offering a variety of gluten-free and vegetarian options, every dish we tried was delicious. The curried tempeh was outstanding, and the vegetarian poutine was among the best I ve had. Highly recommended!
Best restaurant in Gravenhurst. A MUST go if you re in the area!
Amazing restaurant. Food and service were outstanding. This is a hidden gem in Gravenhurst. Highly recommend if youre in the area.
Good fish, great beer selection
Food was absolutely delicious!
Amazing staff, beautiful restaurant space and delicious menu! The food was amazing, we had a lovely time visiting, and the patio is dog friendly! :) It was a great experiance and we cant wait to go back for more. 10/10 for everything!
Great food, great staff and wonderful ambience. Very welcoming.
We arrived at 2pm on a Friday afternoon. Waited a long time to be served. The $20 burger did not look appetizing, it had a good flavoured patty but lacked a great deal to make it worth the price, especially with no sides. The food was not worth the money. This is the first restaurant I ve ever been to that does not allow food substitutions or eliminations. As a customer who has severe food allergies, I urge you do not go to this restaurant! This should not be allowed. We will not go again to this restaurant, nor will we recommend it,
After finding this place on Google, we arrived with high expectations, but unfortunately, it did not deliver (understatement). We received our food without any cutlery, and the hamburgers were dry. After asking to replace one of them, the next one came out exactly the same way. The menu claims that the patty is homemade, but it certainly did not taste like it. I strongly suggest that the cook visit Bracebridge Barrelhouse to learn how a real hamburger should taste. We left the entire hamburger untouched, and they did not offer any refund for the terrible experience. Not recommended. I understand the buzz, but this place does not deserve the 4.5 stars it currently has.
Beautiful restaurant with a modern-rustic design. The two salads were excellent. We would have liked to have stayed for a drink, but felt like we had to leave, there were guests sitting at the counter waiting for a table and the bill was brought to us quite quickly.
Their Fish & Chips option was confusing as it actually did not include the fries like all other restaurants, Update your menu to reflect that fries are extra; Or change the pricing to include the chips (fries)part ! Otherwise , everything was delish
A wonderful local spot!
Food is so good!
Food was average. Price was as expected. The decor was nice. Kind of slow service. Would I go back? Probably try other places.
Excellent place to have dinner. Food and service was excellent. Nice decor and ambiance as well.
Great food and great place
We enjoyed a Greek salad that was new to the menu! Also enjoyed the battered bass and onion rings! Good meal. No view of the water, but the wait staff is lovely and the food was enjoyable.
Our server was the best server weve had in a long time, even though she was very busy the restaurant was quaint and the food was absolutely wonderful
My wife and I spent our 14th anniversary in Gravenhurst, enjoying the Steamship, Muskoka Discovery Centre, et al. Decided to have dinner at The Oar and wow, easily one of the best dining experiences weve ever had. My wife had the duck confit, I had the oven roasted chicken stuffed with sun-dried tomatoes and goat cheese. Lime margarita and Riesling to drink. Unbelievable flavour, excellent service, just a joy all around. Well be back!
Good food/service but the steaks are mediocre.
Great service, great food, great draft. We ordered the impossible burger, wings, and the chicken supreme and it was all super good. Nice atmosphere too - perfect place to spend a summer a evening
Great food. Ordered the Chicken Supreme, a really fantastic version of this classic. Service was great.
Quality food, service and outdoor area Kid-friendliness: They provide crayons and a coloring page Food : 5/5 |
The summer salad was yummy as were the garlic shrimp. Would love to return and try other menu items.
Nice place good food
Eric our server was terrific Very friendly Made a great margarita Service was great Food : 4/5 |
We went at a quieter time of the day.The menu had some unique choices and the food was very good.
Had a great experience here for a lunch and drinks. They had a couple great options for my vegan girlfriend, staff was super friendly and portion sizes were great! We even came back the next day to pick up a bottle of Underwood Wine and Willibald Gin, both were fantastic to have back at the cottage. Vegetarian options: Try the noodle bowl, it was flavourful and hearty Kid-friendliness: We didnt have our child with us but definitely this is a family friendly place with great options for kids.
Lovely spot to stop and eat on our way north Great service Awesome food and tasty moc-tails Food : 5/5
Wow I cannot say enough about this dining experience. The staff are friendly, the food is AMAZING, and the environment is welcoming. What more can you ask for? Will absolutely be back!
The Oar is always great everytime I go! Food, cocktails and service are always exceptional. Patio is lovely aswell. Gravenhurst is lucky to have them!
Guys, my Company has been working in town for 2 years now and I regret waiting this long to experience this place! Must try, I got the daily pork quesadilla deal and let me tell you. The portion was absolutely fantastic and totally according with the price, the restaurant itself is very clean and the staff wer very polite and professional. No regrets at all!
Great hidden gem in the heart of Gravenhurst. Almost overlooked this place while working in town, glad we didnt. Pork quesadillas were perfect as was the service we had from Ev!! Shall return with a bigger appetite. Food
Wonderful family-run restaurant in the heart of Gravenhurst. Our family has enjoyed many lunches on the go as well as memorable dinners with Oar/North. Looking forward to our next visits
Great place. Small family owned business, run by very nice people. Staff goes out of their way to ensure an enjoyable experience. Will be back!
We are visiting from Tennessee. We met my Canadian cousin there for late lunch. The food was excellent and everything was fresh! The lady the served us couldn t have been nicer. What a wonderful place to meet up. Who would have known from a Google search that it was going to be a great find!
Really enjoyed dining in and take out. Been on a Karaage chicken roll. Excellent fries!
Superb!
Amazing dinner! We enjoyed every choice especially the karate chicken sandwich So perfect!! Food
Nice atmosphere and good food. Service was a little slow but we enjoyed our time.
Hadnt been for a while, but they have added and modified their menu from a few years back and I really enjoyed it. I had the Quesadilla lunch special with a side Caesar, and it really hit the spot, but was really impressed with the maple glazed bacon on the salad. So good. We also had the Karaage Chicken Sandwich, and this really blew me away. It was tender and juicy, yet light, and was super tasty. Anyway, looking forward to going back...great spot.
They should have more local beers
Have been to this restaurant many times with my family, but I will not be going back and don t recommend this place to anyone going forward. I have never been talked to more rudely than when the owners son came to our table to yell at us and roll his eyes when we asked to get a take out container for our son s food. I would be very disappointed if I was the owner and this is how my son was treating guests.
Such an amazing find! A beautiful restaurant with a calming vibe, lovely staff and the best food. The menu is so thoughtfully designed with choices for everyone - meat, vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Each dish is distinct and executed beautifully. Highly recommended!
Don t skip this place!!! Amazing and not too packed on a Saturday for dinner. Service was quick, sold us both the specials. Rainbow trout and Grilled Hen, both phenomenal! Love that Gravenhurst has this restaurant!! Drinks were great too, will definitely be back!
We had a lovely lunch. Shared the new Karaage Chicken Sandwich, lunch special, and a side of fries. Delicious as always!
Although I have never dined in the restaurant but whenever I have taken takeouts, their service and food has been nothing but a treat. With vegan and vegetarian options and fair prices for everything. The owner and staff are very curtious
A small pub with a very small menu. The first 20 minutes was great. Drinks came quickly and so did the spicy calamari, which was delicious!. Then we waited and waited 45 minutes for 1 burger, 1 fries and a small salad. And when it finally arrived the burger was lukewarm and dry, the salad was a mess of field greens stuffed in to a tiny size bowl with everything else on the bottom! But the fries were great! Overall a very average experience all round.
What a fantastic lunch!! The menu is very diverse and the food was sooooo delicious. Four different dishes at the table and everyone was more than satisfied. I would also be remiss if I didnt mention our most awesome server, Ev. What a breath of fresh air this woman was. This woman should be training staff everywhere on how to give too-notch customer service. She was really a joy and just made our experience! High fives on a perfect luncheon
We recently hosted a rehearsal party at The Oar. Robbie was amazing to work with, providing incredible guidance as we planned our event. Ev & her staff provided great service the day of the event
Four of us went there last night. So disappointed. The serving of sal.on was so small with very few vegetables. How about adding rice? 2 of us got the chicken sandwich. It was overcooked and the sauce was cold. My Dad did enjoy his wings.
Excellent service, delicious food and relaxed atmosphere. The staff are so kind and helpful! Would definitely recommend you visit this gem of a restaurant! Dietary restrictions: They were very accommodating with my gluten and dairy allergies.
The mussels were juicy and came with a fantastic sauce. On the other hand, the pasta was pretty plain for the price, and I was disappointed that the poutine didnt have curds, rather what tasted like cheap mozzarella. Service was fantastic, both eat in and take out
Service was good. Chicken sandwich was very dry maybe over cooked
Overall disappointed with lunch. The server was very nice, but service was extremely slow. Seemed to be a kitchen issue. We sat near a window and it was really chilly! The food looked nice but was disappointing. Minestrone soup was luke warm, over salted and didnt taste like minestrone. No herbs or pasta, no parm and very few beans. The seasonal salad was interesting. Great components but they didnt marry well. Plus it was missing its dressing so there was nothing tying it together. But the salads biggest problem was the small bowl it was served in. Looked great, but it was overflowing and very difficult to eat without pieces falling on the table.
Had a great lunch, the white winter cosmo was delicious. I had the burger and muskoka salad, my friend had the chicken pot pie and a caesar salad, All was so delicious!!
Great place for a catch up with friends. We enjoyed a beautiful lunch and were made to feel welcome to stay and visit. Highly recommended.
Went on New Years Eve and they had a special menu with live music. Would recommend reserving a table in advance. Yummy food, polite staff, and short wait times. Would recommend!
Absolutely a must when in Gravenhurst! Delicious food and wonderful servers and staff!
Excellent Valentines dinner
Food was good Service attentive & friendly Food : 4/5
The mussels were fresh and delicious, and a very generous portion! Our server Kaitlynn (sp?) was very friendly and helpful, great service!
Best place in Gravenhurst.
We stopped in to the Oar for a quick lunch and it was great! Piping hot French fries, tasty soap, and a yummy Turkey sandwich. I like the artwork and the decor inside it s a nice touch when a restaurant has real wooden floors. My only criticism is the price for the lunch. The sandwich itself was affordable, but they charge extra for fries, and I was surprised by the final bill. Still, a nice place to eat and connect with friends and family.
Wings and sweet potato fries were legendary. Service friendly and attentive. Even cool coffee mugs to enjoy. Food
Went here for dinner during a weekend getaway and had a wonderful meal. The service, atmosphere and experience were all excellent. We ordered the cheesy garlic bread, steaks and winter salad. All delicious! Our server went the extra mile when she found out it was my birthday. I would definitely come again.
Too expensive. Portions too small. No side with meal... Loved this restaurant the first few times I went. Portions used to be larger and had way more menu options. Recently however the prices have become exceptionally high (unreasonable) $35 for a 6oz steak the size of the palm of my small hand with no sides or anything. Sides are extra. $5-6 extra to get a very small side caesar salad. Two glasses of house wine were $23 (11.50 a glass!). Service was good and flavors are good but menu prices and lack of menu options in comparison to what they used to have was very disappointing.
Like the live music, food and service were excellent
A consistently very good dining experience. Have been coming here for many years, and they never disappoint. A good menu selection, for most tastes, and reasonably priced.
Service was friendly, the decor is nice and the place is clean; however, menu is expensive for what you get. Two impossible burgers are $19 each (no pennies here in Canada so round up!), no sides or drinks. Then, to add two side Caesar salads are $8 each. Youre now at $54 for two burgers and small side salads. When you add 1 pop with that the bill is now $60. Yikes. The burgers arent gourmet in anyway either, and we didnt add any freaky toppings. $60 for two people for burgers and salads, eh? Add tax. Add tip. I dont feel the prices reflect the value.
Stopped in for dinner after viewing a house for sale in this great town. Food & service were great. Now that we ll be moving here in a few short weeks, . we re very much looking forward to becoming regulars @ The Oar!
Had dinner on Friday night and waited about 45 minutes for our entrees. When we asked our waitress why it was taking so long, we were told that the kitchen was backed up. But that didnt make any sense to us as we noticed at least 2 other tables that were seated after us, got their dinner before we did! And after she apologized for the delay, she asked if we wanted anything else! Why would we order anything else if it was taking so long just to get our initial order?!?!?! I checked out past reviews after dinner there and saw some people experiencing similar extremely slow service as well and they were posted 7 to 8 months ago. Clearly their service has not improved!
New 2023 Menu! Love that they have vegetarian options too!! Always a good mix of food. We had Tuna Nicoise Salad, Tempeh Stir Fry, Thai Crab Cake.
This is a very nice quiet place where you can eat, drink and actually hear yourself think. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Parking: There is generally lots of parking close by.
Very noisy - the entertainer was excellent but was competing with the loud chatter of the customers to the degree that we couldnt enjoy a normal conversation at our table of four.
It was our first time there and would definitely go back again. Food was excellent, service was excellent and atmosphere was excellent.
Absolutely incredible food & service. The staff is the sweetest and the food is finger-licking good! Highly recommend checking this spot out if youre in town :)
Look no further! Delicious quality dishes. Attention to detail welcoming staff. Ticks every box. Wish I knew if it earlier.
Loved the food and the atmosphere, our server was very friendly. I was hoping to come back the last time I was in the area but unfortunately they are closed on Sundays.
Great service and great food. We both had the lunch special. Pesto chicken wrap. I am never disappointed.
Literally everything here is fantastic. Top notch quality. Best corn chowder I ve ever had. My dad ordered a second of this appetizer after! Eat on the patio Food : 5/5
Required a Gluten-free meal, Staff was knowledgeable regarding allergies, it was definitely comforting. It was provided, delicious! Dietary restrictions: Staff is gluten-free savvy
We wanted to come here for dinner but the only reservation we could get was before 5, which isn t a problem but we came in with high expectations for such a busy restaurant. First off, the pasta carbonara was $30 which was unreasonably high. We found the carbonara quite gross as the eggs was scrambled in the pasta. Additionally, the tuna salad was 50% olives and had uncooked potatoes and the whole salad looked grey. One would expect a salad to have greens however that was not the case. Would not recommend, there are better places that are cheaper and have better quality. (And less flies)
On Thursday July 20, 2023 I took a bus tour group here for lunch. At least six of my group complained the salmon they received was spoiled and did not taste right. Several were were sick later that night. Service was poor. No drinks were offered, coffee or tea. The owner/manager denies all responsibility and claims our group was the problem. I have taken our groups to 30 or so restaurants this year alone, and received only praise for our visits. The owner/manager was not even present during our visit, and no staff member ever asked (I was the tour dirrctor and introduced myself as such to the person who greeted us at the restaurant) if everything was alright and we were happy with their service. This same person claims they had four other bus tours ( presumably of recent vintage ?) who were very happy with them. No other groups were present with us, so I find this totally irrelevant to our visit. And going back for three months on Trip Advisor/Google/Yelp I find no reviews from any tour group or any individual who said they were with one. So, apparently whenever these groups were there, they were not so pleased as to post a positive review of their experience.
Incredible food!!! I placed an order for pick up for 4 people. It was ready on time, packaged well and still hot when we got back to the cottage. Two of the meals were the Vegan Impossible Burgers. Hard to believe but this was THE BEST Vegan Burger I have ever had. The french fries were to die for! The other meals were thoroughly enjoyed as well. Wonderful food, great service! Thank you for such a delicious meal.
Wow! The tomato soup is home made and delicious. We had the chicken wrap and it too was delicious. Great service. Great atmosphere. Definitely recommended. Thank you for the experience.
Wonderful summer salad with lots of different tastes and textures, great service!
I just had the most disappointing dining experience. The menu and the waiter deliberately misled guests by concealing the price of the soup on the menu. This deceptive practice led people to believe it was included in the daily features. Its unacceptable for a restaurant to try to scam customers with hidden fees on the menu. Moreover, the waiting time for our food to be served was unreasonably long, exceeding half an hour. It was frustrating to wait for such an extended period. The hygiene of the place was also appalling. There were multiple flies buzzing around the restaurant, and one even landed in my friends plate. It was extremely unsanitary and off-putting.
Excellent food and service!
Delicious Hamburgers and Poutine fries. The italian sandwish was awesome. And the waitress a delight to talk to.
Food was fantastic, the real issue was when I brought to attention my waitress that my soup doesnt look full for 8$ as per other pictures on the site, she advised me before it was a bowl and not a plate. I see other plates and they were full compare to mine. Spent 125$ that night, doubt I will come back unfortunately
One of my favourite spots in Gravenhurst. Beautiful patio in a lovely spot. Service was amazing and quick. Food was a true 10/10. Had a few vegetarian and vegan options as well. Lovely spot to go for lunch while in town. Definitely recommend.
Great little spot for good food at reasonable prices.
Nice bistro experience
What a fantastic meal! The calamari was perfect, with a tasty dipping sauce. The spring salad was an absolute delight. The service was excellent.
Lovely drinks and good food!
Big portions, good food.
Good people working there
Beware The menu on their website posted 6 mths ago is completely outdated. Both of us had prechosen our meals. Disappointed we both had to find a substitute. I had the salmon special. Sauce was spicy but once I scraped it off the salmon was good. However the roasted red russet potatoes were not only not red but mushy and the cabbage side had a weird spice flavour. From looking at the other diners plates, I wasnt the only one who felt this way. The other half had the turkey wrap with a side salad. Both were very good. Thankfully the side salad was big and was shared so I didnt go hungry. Not in any hurry to return. Too pricy for the inconsistency with the quality. Update fyi I looked at the menu on the website the day of our visit. It had not been updated for 6 mths and had completely changed so I wouldnt encourage people to use if you dont keep it up to date.
Ordered the pickerel. It was served undercooked. Brought this up with the server, who ordered another for me, but the service was awkward and cold for the rest of my stay. Not returning.
They brought a wrong bottle of wine and cracked open without confirming our order. It was a half bottle and we were a little confused as we thought our wine was a full size bottle. We asked our server about it then the manager came out pretty much blaming us saying you received this bottle and we should have known its the wrong wine. We did our best to explain what happened but he pretty much refused to accept and kept blaming on us.......sigh the server was very nice and apologetic but the experience was so bad that we did not enjoy the rest at all...... Do not go here. I am so sorry about coming here tonight.
Love Calamari, always excellence service!
Lovely, cottage-y kinda place. The risotto was okay, its different. The cheesesteak sandwich was on the dry side. Love the calamari! Wings and mussels are good The mocktails are also really good
It was very good
Amazing local restaurant in the heart of the Muskokas in Gravenhurst! One small thing. Dim those lights in the dining room and throw some candles on those tables!
The place is very cosy. Good variety of food options. I suggest the oar burger, very juicy. There is also a good variety of drinks that you can choose from. Overall we had a great experience. We had stop there for late lunch after a small hike nearby. I recommend. Also the waitresses are great and the service is fast.
Amazing food, awesome environment, and lovely staff.
Recently we had a Celebration of Life for my mom at the Oar. It was a difficult day for us but Robbie and the staff were amazing at helping us through the day. The food selection and variety was outstanding. It was exactly what needed for my mom. Great food and an authentic Muskoka atmosphere.
Great small town restaurant, very tasty food and friendly staff as well!! The food was very fresh and lots of flavor , well made food as opposed to the big chain restaurants. Will definitely come back!!
We were in a lockdown so could only do takeout but they were AMAZING! so super friendly and accomodated gluten free for my celiac at no extra charge. Great food, great customer service! Cant wait to come and dine in!
We were lucky enough to have The Oar cater our 18 person wedding in August 2021 and we could not have been happier. They were so accommodating, so considerate, and so responsive. Truly, we could not have been happier and wed recommend their catering to anyone and everyone who asked!
We really enjoyed the food and the service was great!
My calamari and winter salad were unreal 10/10
Had such a fun time with friends! Great food and amazing service!
As always, food, staff and entertainment was wonderful
We dropped in at this cute place on the way to Muskoka and were not at all disappointed!!! The beyond meat burger tasted fabulous They also have other vegetarian options like falafel wrap and fries. The burger was served with choice of sweet potato fries or normal fries both of which tasted great! Would definitely recommend this place for a quick drop by for a fantastic lunch or brunch.
We went to the Oar in March with our kids. The tables were spaced out and the restaurant had a great ambiance. We ordered chicken fingers for the kids and they were very happy. We ordered sweet potato and carrot soup, garden salad, the fried chicken meal with mashed potatoes and vegetables, and the beef chuck meal with mashed potatoes and vegetables, ice cream and cheesecake. The food was excellent- we really enjoyed it! Would definitely go back!
Lovely restaurant with great service, decor and quality of food! I had the fish and chips and the batter was some of the thinnest and crispiest Ive had, though a little disappointed there was no coleslaw served for the price.
What a fantastic experience. Great staff. We held a medium sized event in the West Wing and the service was astonishing. Catered to dietary restrictions. Adapted when numbers changed due to the weather. Just a brilliantly executed event. Thank you!!
great burger and craft beer
A wonderful and tasty lunch. Highly recommend this restaurant! The staff is warm and friendly also.
The staff and food was amazing.
Really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Made their own burgers and caesar dressing - very tasty. Fish & chips hot, crispy and flavourful.
Love the food. Great location. Beautiful decor.
We love this little gem in Gravenhurst. Honestly one of the best burgers Ive ever eaten. And its close to my favourite breweries Sawdust City. Win, win.
Absolutely fantastic. Home food made delicious. In my view any restaurant starts with the wine they offer. Although just a simple list with a handful of items, they are all 10 out of 10. Then the menu. Lots of choices in the menu. Food was delicious, attention from staff was delightful. Its definitely a place to come back too.
Amazing food, Indians must try this meal.
Nice place. Great Berger my first time there ,but I will go back again
Unfortunately the waitress forgot to place our order. We sat and waited for over an hour while the two tables who came after us received and finished their food. No one came to check or even let us know our food order had not been placed. Yhe reason I left 2 stars is because the food was excellent. However the staff were rude especially after we had waited so long. I appreciate all that the staff did for us after we received our food. Overall maybe this place deserves a second chance. I recommend the fish and chips it is more than enough for one person.
Visited last night (June 16, 2022) for dinner, with my fiancé. We ordered the Spinach Artichoke appetizer served with char-grilled naan points and what appeared to be house-made tortilla chips. The portion size was very respectable and the freshness and quality were exactly as expected, although we felt the quantity of chips (not the dip) could have been slightly increased. We ordered 2 Blueberry Mojotos, which were garnished with fresh mint and a tasty lime slice. Both were delicious. We both ordered the Gnocchi with Butternut Squash and Bacon, Parmesan cream sauce garnished in fresh herbs which was absolutely out of this world. The SIZE of the portion of our Gnocchi left ME somewhat wanting, but the quality was exquisite. My fiancé thought her portion was just right. We declined to have dessert as they only had one slice of the carrot cake remaining. No fault of their own, probably just sold out, as the place was relatively well attended for an early Thursday evening (around 5PM). They had live music , a man playing guitar and singing who was a little loud (presumably over amplified) but was very talented as guitarists go. Our hostess was pleasant and promptly seated us at a comfortable enough table, but our server was either new to serving, or didn t really want to be there last night, as she made everything seem it was an inconvenience, when we could find her. Given the QUALITY of the food (very high), more than the portion sizes (slightly below average), the price point is what we expected, but could deter some people, especially during these hard financial times for most. We would VERY LIKELY go again, because they nailed almost everything that is actually important in running a good restaurant. UPDATE: (June 23, 2022). Had a repeat visit tonight with my fiancé. The food was again, FANTASTIC, having the Spring Wrap, Haddock Fish and Chips and another Spinach Artichoke Appetizer. We also tried the Double Chocolate house-made brownie for dessert. Our (not the same as our previous visit) server (Christina) was leaps and bounds better than our initial visit. She was absolutely on point . This place is a MUST-TRY!
Went to this restaurant to have diner after a long day of hiking in the beginning of June. Had the burger with sweet potatoes. No wait, really nice waiters. It s worth the try.
Excellent food, we really appreciate that everything is made there fresh. The staff were friendly and made sure we had a great time.
Dined out on the patio with our dog under the table. Excellent in every way---interesting menu, polite, prompt, friendly service, and, most important, GOOD FOOD. Parking: Limited but available
The food was good, but the price was excessive for a simple sandwich and fries ($21). I was expecting a larger sandwich. Poor value for the money.
Great food and friendly service - the summer salad was fresh, the fried fish was tender, and the poutine was great. We ll stop by again the next time we re in town!
First time, friendly staff. Great service, good food. would go back.
Went to the Oar for dinner and ordered the fried chicken special it looked absolutely delicious. When biten into the inside was very cold as if it was frozen. Sent the chicken back and was surprised when we were given back the same meal just heated up. It was the exact same piece with my bite taken out of it... We had assumed a fresh meal would be made. Since the chicken was heated so many times it was then dried out and mushy. Disappointed as we wont be going back.
I don t know if the food is good or not, already wait 1hr after order
Yet another fabulous dinner at The Oar. Everything was perfect... had a big reservation for 12 and it was great. Thanks!
The Oar is a great spot in downtown Gravenhurst. The patio is lovely and the inside is cozy and intimate. The service is fantastic and the food is delicious! They have so many vegetarian options, which can be hard to find in a restaurant setting. If youre looking for a great spot for dinner, check out The Oar. Ask about their giant aloe plant!
This place was amazing. Wasnt sure what to expect, but turned out to be one of my favorite places to eat.
We stopped in today for the first time. I had an incredible salad and my BF had what he called the best burger he s ever had . We will definitely be back. Atmosphere was great as well.
Nice little place with good service but the food was average.
You could easily drive by this nondescript restaurant and not even notice it and that would be a shame. My husbands burger and fries were exceptional (and hes picky) and my Falafel Poke bowl with the salmon was among one of the very best meals Ive ever eaten at a restaurant. We wish we had discovered this place the first day of our vacation because we would have returned daily. We are heading back for round 2 today. All the meals we saw being served looked spectacular and the servers were excellent. Dont miss this gem!
Don t bother going down to the restaurants on the water - you ll never get a better meal than at the Oar . We ordered their catch of the day for dinner absolutely delicious! Wife and I eat fish every chance we get and this was the best we have had this chef knows how to cook Great waitress..(think her name was Grace)rustic down home atmosphere.. heading back for lunch today. Dan & Wendy
Very good food and service.
Great food and atmosphere. Excellent servers as well and great beer selection. A perfect experience!
Vegetarian options: It has different vegetarian options. I tried stuffed portobello mushrooms and it was really great
Our family has a great dinner!
Expensive, limited menu. We sat outside but the bees were troublesome
Burger and fries were delicious. Staff was friendly.
Great service, awesome burger and one of the RARE places that has Steam whistle pillsner on tap, fantastic job guys and girls keep up the good work
Amazing service. The drinks were beautiful. Food was sooo good. (Highly recommend the nachos.) Great spot!
Parking: In front
Had the classic burger with fries which was one of the best I ve ever had! My wife loved the onion soup and baguette too. Really friendly service. Overall excellent experience!
Great service. Great staff. Wonderful flavourful food. Perfect portions. Highly recommended
Happy we stumbled across this local restaurant during our visit. Enjoyed our experience, food was good and our server was attentive and friendly. Must try: falafel poke bowl + grilled salmon!
Lovely bangers and mash.
Went to this restaurant 5 minutes ago, the website said it is open, got there and it was closed for a private event. It would be nice if the website reflected what is actually happening so a trip is not wasted.
I was tricked into coming here by the Google review (am I right about the Google review?). I recommend everyone who comes to Muskoka to try this restaurant and feel the feeling of being tricked. I m really hooked on the taste and price of this restaurant s dishes. The best thing about this hotel is that the bathroom is very clean
We had a wonderful meal and the service was excellent. TY so much!
Great place to sit down and eat, listen to live music and great food. Staff friendly and very helpful.
Nice little rustic tavern like restaurant in Gravenhurst. Food and service was excellent. Highly recommended if youre in the area!!
Great tasting food and friendly service. Vegetarian options: They have vegan options Kid-friendliness: Chicken fingers
Great food. Good atmosphere. Vegetarian options: A few options.
Delicious food, really enjoyed the drinks as well. Get the Muskoka brewery and their winter long island iced tea
Always a great spot to enjoy a meal .....cheers!
First time there for lunch. Food was excellent and service was just right. Dietary restrictions: They had a gluten free bread option for my dining companion which was reported to be good. Food : 5/5 |
The absolute BEST focaccia bread I ve ever had! I literally come all the way from Toronto just for the focaccia. The steak is delicious. Staff are friendly, place is cozy with a nice patio.
Delicious food, great service.
Great place. Good food and service.
Not a bad place to eat I guess, just not what we had. We were there for a late lunch, almost right before dinner... so we just ordered a bowl of soup and some onion rings to share. The soup was barely warm, and there was not much in the bowl, maybe a cup and I really didnt like it. But the onion rings were good. Other pub style food going by looked good though. I guess we have to try it at dinner time.
This was my first time here. It was absolutely incredible. The potato and leek soup was delicious. The calamari was tender and perfectly cooked. Wonderful experience, I will be back
They have good food and very friendly . I would definitely go back .
Extremely disappointed, I understand difficult times however the prices certainly did not match the service or food quality or presentation. Would not return or reccomend.
Really nice food, pleasant atmosphere, and great Canadian service, worth a visit in a beautiful town
This restaurant has charming Nd rustic decor with oars and a hanging canoe. The menus is varied and moderately priced. My soup was delicious. I plan to return soon.
The staff are friendly. The food is fresh, wholesome and tasty. An enjoyable evening was had thanks guys.
We drove a while to get here and we were not disappointed. The portions were huge and the food was really good. We ordered falafel wrap, chicken wrap, soup, fries, and calamari. Everything tasted good and the service was excellent. Would highly recommend if you need a place to eat in Muskoka.
