Oh my goodness what a gem of a restaurant. I have lived in Grimsby for 8 years and just discovered this place. Kicking myself for not finding it sooner. The food was amazing as was the service and the ambiance. Our sever Julie was great. She answered all our menu questions and was attentive but not overly so. Our party of 3 each ordered a different meal. We chose the risotto w parmesan, mozzarella, and truffles, the pasta and braised beef, and the ricotta ravioli - all were mouth wateringly delicious. Very much looking forward to returning and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fantastic meal.

I recently dined at Casa Toscana and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. My food arrived lukewarm, which was quite unappetizing. The wait staff seemed indifferent and did not offer any apologies for the oversight. It feels like the restaurant lacks attention to detail and genuine concern for customer satisfaction. I hope they can improve, as the atmosphere has potential.

Simply exceptional!! Excellent quality dishes with an interesting variety of options including lovely Roman specialties (Cacio e Pepe, Amatriciana, etc). Felt like we were in the old country. Its that good. Upon discovering this place we came twice in one weekend. Once for lunch (the focaccia panini is to die for), and the other for dinner. Complimenti a chef Luca!! In addition our servers Barbara and Julie were fantastic!! We will be back every time we pass by on the QEW :)

My husband and I brought friends to celebrate our anniversary. My husband had the scalloping Pollo. It was awful. Vegetables were tough and it was swimming i gravy. I didnt get the waitress bringing us a giant blackboard to. explain specials. It should be memorized or written on their notepads. Very disappointed I was recommended this place by a friend and wont be back. Also the tables are way to small to seat 4. We had to keep juggling our glasses and plates.Not a good experience for our anniversary

We went on a summer evening in July. It was a Friday evening and full of customers. Service was slow at first but perfect once taken care of. My wife had a pasta dish offered that week and not on the menu. The flavors didnt seem to blend very well. Dough with green peas and lamb sausages. I had the amatriciana pasta. Even better than several dishes I ate in Italy. Classic recipe prepared with great mastery. There were other classic Roman recipes. Perfect al dente pasta, precise flavors. Well done!! And a nice wine list too with local producers (including Leaning post)

Excellent Italian dining in downtown Grimsby. Their menu offers a wide selection of mostly North Italian dishes, plus they offer daily specials. My favorite lunch is Casio E Pepe, a simple veg pasta dish with angel hair pasta, Pecarino Romana, and black pepper, paired with a good Niagara Reisling (they have a extensive wine list). Nice patio in the summer, Ive been here at least 5 times for lunch and dinner, and Ive never been disappointed. Updated August 2024, still excellent, really enjoyed the pasta with braised beef.

We went to casa Toscana to celebrate a birthday. Not only was the food 10/10 but our server (Julie) was happy to take some photos for us as well as listen to our conversation about the birthday and bring us a desert for the birthday girl on the house. While the owner & staff are wonderful, the food here leaves a lot to be desired! We were part of a birthday celebration, and maybe because it was a set menu, it seemed theyd either forgotten to add, or trimmed all the heart out of the food - everything except the branzino (which was very well done) lacked flavor. I LOVE Italian food, but this was NOT good. The antipasto platter had oddly shaped measly pieces of cheese and lackluster meats - looked like something a teenager would put together, the pasta was very dry without a drop of the olive oil they keep raving about and no parmesan at all, the salad had no flavour, and the chicken piccata was dry, without any real sauce or seasonings, just a touch of lime. The staff were great about accommodating special needs, but the lack of any Italian flavor - no seasonings, olive oil, parmesan cheese, not even any salt on the table made for a lackluster meal. It is a very nice restaurant, with a big, pleasant patio. But, the food would not entice us to return. Would NOT go back.

Had a beautiful summers dinner here. It s not a fancy spot but the food is incredible and the staff are friendly. It s not cheap, comparable to Toronto pricing so it may not be for everyone. We split and appetizer, had a pasta entree each and one glad of wine.

I really really wanted to be able to write a positive review. I kept trying this restaurant hoping the poor food was just a one off. Unfortunately when youre a party of 9 and every single person is disappointed with their meal, that says something. Between the 9 of us, there were 6 different main entrees ordered. All were underwhelming with little to no flavour. Thats the nicest way I can put it. Im no chef and dont even consider myself a great cook and I could have made a better meal than what I ordered. We had relatives from out of country and took them here as they wanted Italian. For the high price of the meals, they were disappointed. The staff, on the other hand, are fantastic. Extremely professional, helpful and friendly. If this review was just based on the staff we encountered, it would be 5 star. The location is great and the patio is great. Theres such potential for this to be a great restaurant. However in the numerous times weve been, weve always been disappointed with the food.

Casa Toscana could be my favourite Italian restaurant in the Country. They have a great team, and food has always been consistently outstanding. Keep it up folks!

Update Aug 9 2024: Had another birthday dinner, 65th milestone celebration (not mine lol) and as usual the food was excellent. Julie was our server and was very attentive, atmosphere is wonderful making us feel as if we were dining on the Italian seaside with music, lights and sunflowers. Will definitely return for dinner. Update May 7, 2022: went for my birthday with some friends and I had the veal, someone had the Carbonara, another the pasta with salmon. Everything was excellent from the appetizers, the main course and wine. Once the patio is set up will be visiting again soon for appetizers and wine on the patio. Wonderful restaurant serving fabulous authentic Italian food. One of the few businesses that have been able to pivot during this pandemic and provide outdoor dining all year long under their individual greenhouses so they could continue serving the community and loyal customers. Highly recommend trying dine in or take out.

Outstanding, Spettacolo from the moment we were greeted! We are self proclaimed foodies, Italo-Canadians, bar raises high by our parents in terms of food and its preparation. Fresh pasta cooked to perfection, with fresh ingredients, herbs to taste so each shines . We had the featured Beef carpaccio with grilled seasonal peaches that melted in your mouth. We each had a feature pasta that left us wanting more! My Hugo Spritz spot on and my husband had the best Negroni, second only to the one he makes for himself. So lucky to have eaten here tonight as all tables were reserved. There was enough time to squeeze us in. We started with Carpaccio di Manzo an appetizer of thinly sliced tenderloin which was on a plate with dollops of ricotta and chunks of peaches and a sprinkling of Casa Toscana s liquid gold olive oil. My goodness if all I had was this dish I would have been happy. I had the Polipettine Della Nonna spaghetti and meatballs which was a mixture of meats and house made pasta. The flavor was amazing and I loved the noodle to meatball ratio. Hubby had the Pasta alla Genovese which was a slow braised meat. He had to have gluten free pasta but said it was good. It appeared to have a white wine sauce. We did have to ask for bread which was minor (he may have thought we didn t want it as hubby is celiac). I m glad I asked as the bread was so good, dipped in their awesome olive oil with a bit of balsamic. For me, the appetizer and bread stole the show as well as the Gelato dessert. Hubby had cafe mocha and I had pineapple. There was live music; an amazing classical guitarist and he was so good! There was a fountain near our table and a little bird hopping around drinking water making for a great ambiance out on the deck! Lastly, our waiter Devin was very good and attentive! Overall it was a great experience! Dietary restrictions: It is nice to have gluten free options. The pasta was penne and hubby said it tasted good!

Our server was Devon and he was wonderful. We enjoyed a bottle of red wine Pupillo- Baronessa di Canseria . It was a beautiful robust wine which went well with our spaghetti and meatballs. One of our dinner guests ordered the rabbit special. It was amazing. We ended off our meal with delicious house-made desserts. All round a fabulous night out at one of our favourite restaurants.

Sorry I didnt originally explain the review. - We came in to buy some sliced cured meats about 45min before closing and the clerk refused and said some excuse like the machine had already been cleaned and that using the slicer was a bother and we left empty-handed. My partner and I regularly frequent Casa Toscana; it is our favourite restaurant in our neighbourhood. I was disappointed for the first time in 3 years with the service last night. I noted within the comment section of my reservation request that we would be celebrating a 30th birthday; I also mentioned this to the individual that sat us, as well as our server. I have been a waitress for 12 years - typically, when a guest makes a reservation note or verbalizes they are celebrating something, the restaurant will do something on their end to acknowledge it (i.e. complimentary birthday dessert, complimentary glass of Prosecco). Unfortunately, there was no acknowledgement for this milestone birthday. I would recommend this restaurant for a date night, but not a place to go to celebrate something - especially if you are hoping for acknowledgement from the restaurant/wait staff.

The food was absolutely incredible, prepared with the freshest and most authentic ingredients. The service was top-notch, and we were fortunate to have Barbara taking care of us. It was truly an amazing experience!

A real gem

Cozy resto with delicious food. My friend and I ordered white sardines and bruschetta as appies which we enjoyed. Our mains are both pasta that we devoured in an instant. The waitress was the nicest.

I popped into their Bottega shop a couple weeks ago. I purchased some fresh pasta, truffle pasta sauce, some olive oil and cheese. Everything was so fresh, high quality and excellent value for the price point. Cannot wait to stop in again and pick up more goodies!

One of favourite local Italian restaurant. We love how it is family-run. We have purchased fresh pasta and cold cuts from their Bodega shop and have had many intimate dinner dates. We love sampling the olive oil and often will refill bottles on our stops. Always on point!

Excellent staff, food and ambience

Visited again in early July: had the Chicken Piccata and my friends had the muscles in white wine and the Baccalà allacqua pazza. We also had the Delizia al Limone. Well worth visiting this restaurant, as well as the Bottega next door. Visited in early May 2024: Amazing menu, fresh and genuine ingredients and gorgeous historic venue.

Cozy Italian restaurant on the main street in Grimsby. They pride themselves on their authenticity and all menu items are as is. There are no modifications or substitutions allowed. The food was delicious and the homemade bread to start could have been a meal itself.

I had wanted to eat here for over a year after hearing about it. We decided to come for a lunch. The place is beautiful and service was good. We ordered bruschetta which is usually tomatoes, the menu did say vegetables but when it came it was all mushrooms. One of the party did not like mushrooms. While it was delicious the server should have mentioned it was a mushroom bruschetta. The main dish 2 of us ordered was carbonara. It looked lovely but was so salty it was hardly edible. We mentioned it to the server and she offered to replace it with something else. I have had carbonara many times and have never been able not to finish it because of the strong taste. We didn t want to order something else because the 3 person would have had to eat alone while we waited. This was very very disappointing to have a main dish like that at a restaurant such as this. Also, it would have been good to have some bread at the table, none was offered or brought. Weird. The desserts we ordered were delicious, the tiramisu was excellent. Overall I would not recommend the pasta if this is how salty it is.

Cafe Toscana is a unique market in the heart of Grimsby. The shop offers a limited quantity of specialty Italian grocery items, house made olive oils and balsamic vinegars, imported wines and a few specialty fresh food items. You can also stop in and enjoy fresh baked goods with an espresso or coffee on their patio.

Chef Quentin was amazing. Made the experience phenomenal for me and my girlfriend. We will definitely be coming back once the beautiful patio is open to enjoy that experience. Our server Devin was out of this world. 10/10

Nadia is a gem and makes the already good experience a great one!

Amazing culinary experience! I really enjoyed the meal my daugther and I had last Friday night. The Carpaccio was well seasoned and melted in your mounth. My dauther has the spaghetti feature and I had the tortelli one. I dont know what is the secret to their home made pasta but they are always so light and perfectly cooked! It was an excellent five star meal at a reasonable price.

We had reservations to eat here for Mother s Day. Unfortunately we were greeted by a very rude host because of showing up early. We wanted to see if they had an earlier spot, we were prepared to go next door for a drink, but were told we had a reservation for a reason. We were taken back by the way it was all presented. We ended up going to a lovely restaurant near Grimsby by the Lake. We would like to return and hopefully have a different experience next time.

Upon arriving, I was promptly seated, and the service throughout my visit was exemplary. The staff were courteous, and the atmosphere was pleasant. However, the food did not meet my expectations. Given the price range of $30-35 for a pasta dish, I anticipated higher quality. Unfortunately, the pasta was undercooked and lacked flavor, with the zucchini being the only somewhat flavorful component. The portion sizes were also disappointing; my partner and I finished our meal in less than ten minutes and were still hungry. Perhaps we chose the wrong dish, but in my opinion, while the service was excellent, the food could benefit from significant improvements.

My partner and I are very disappointed in the pasta we had here. The pasta was hard and lacked any authentic flavor. Just a couple years ago, this place was amazing the pasta melted in your mouth and was full of flavor. Unfortunately, thats not the case anymore. Yes, the pasta is expensive because its made with ORGANIC DURUM SEMOLINA FLOUR from Altamura (Puglia) ITALY and Conestoga FREE RANGE ORGANIC eggs, as the owner proudly states in a previous review. We understand that eating healthy isnt cheap, but it should still taste good for what it s worth. At $60 for two pasta dishes, we expected a lot more in terms of flavor and quality. Sadly, it seems the quality has gone downhill, and its no longer worth the high price. On another note, the service was phenomenal.

Always amazing fresh and amazing service

Our first visit here! Julie was absolutely fantastic. We had a couple of shared appetizers and the sardines were amazing. A beautiful bottle of wine from our home town in Italy paired with delicious hand made pastas. We will be back many more times.

Absolutely stunning venue like I was in Italy great staff and even better food.

It was our first time but definitely not the last! Devin was our server for lunch, he went over the features and menu with us. We got the feature tomato soup , olives, carbonara pasta, and the soup/panini combo. Everything was delicious and super fresh. We went to see Nadia at the cafe next door for some espresso and to buy the Luca wine to enjoy at home. Everyone was so nice and friendly. We felt like we were eating in Italy.

I like this cafe/restaurant. A little bit different with a restaurant, nice Cafe wine available for purchase along with a variety of pasta. Unique and bright. Wonderful.
