Shine Brunch & Dinner in Guelph

Had late breakfast with son and his familyon Dec. 1/24. The food was delicious and the waitress was efficient, friendly and great sense of humour. The decor doesnt do it for me but that would be the only comment in that regard.

This place is always great. Geo had a wonderful attitude and made the experience so much more enjoyable. Eating out always costs more, so its nice to have the food and service justify the expense. Kid-friendliness: They have a great play area for little ones. My grandson loved it.

The staff is incredible. Very friendly/thoughtful and on top of things. Good brunch food, had the Mexican Benedict and it hit the spot. Fun drinks too.

New owner took over this week and theyve taken all the Caribbean food off the menu. Its basically a mediocre Dennys at this point. Such a shame.

Jerk bacon no more... we walked in excited to try breakfast with a Caribbean twist, but was told that a new ownership started this week, and Caribbean items had been taken off the menu, so its just bagel, toast etc. Disappointed that the place has lost its charm.

It was an alright experience but the service was not great.

New ownership has changed the menu dramatically, fired many long time employees, and replaced the staff with inexperienced immigrants - very sad

The food was delicious, and the service was great. The only reason Im giving the atmosphere a 4 star is because the ladies bathroom and the change table inside were very run down and dirty. I loved the island tiki vibe of the restaurant though.

New owners bought the place. Not only did they raise prices, they are also up charging for things that used to be substitutions. I understand that prices will naturally go up, but stop trying to make money on every substitution.

This is our go-to breakfast place in Guelph! Chicken and waffle benedict and the jerk bacon benedict are both amazing. Also theres a little play area in the back corner for young kids, which is great for parents.

Tried to eat here, it was 11:50am and they turned us away. They didnt even give an option to wait. They just said they are not accepting customers at the moment. It was odd.

Rustic but decent place. Very nice tried and true options and some unique options on the menu. Tried the omelette with Indian spices and the jerk bacon...very interesting. Not sure Id order it again but very glad I tried it. If you like these flavours then you have to go for it. I like bacon flavour and I like jerk flavour...but the jerk overwhelmed the bacon. That being said, Id definitely come back again to try other menu items. The painted tables have to go!!

The encourage you to pay cash and have a huge sign outside that says ATM INSIDE but when I went to look for the ATM, it wasnt there. I asked the hostess if there was an ATM (politely) and she said no, if I were you Id assume there wasnt one inside based on the sign outside. The one that says NO ATM INSIDE. I went to look outside and the huge sign has a sticky note on it that had a handwritten NO on it. Like a tiiiny sticky not that is partially covered by a plant. First of all, that was so rude, second of all our service was bad, they brought us the wrong food 3 times, and kept forgetting our water glass that we kept asking for. There were also a couple dissatisfied customers around us which brought the vibe down. The food was nothing special, it was good for the pice.

Their breakfast was good. Their home fries was awesome. Dont go there for their pancakes - better yet avoid their pancakes. Their jerk bacon was very good. I went there for their breakfast. I have to go back there for their lunch. There menu looks mouth watering.

My date and I both had the traditional burger. It was fresh,big and juicy. The fries were homemade served in a big deep fryer basket. The lady serving us was amazing she let us take our time talking and came over in the right moments. We definitely will be back

Extremely disappointing. Server was rude, blunt, and cold to our table. The food took an hour to get to us while the entire restaurant was empty, and even after all that time, the food was undercooked, cold, and a letdown. Waitress needs a new attitude to be frank. This place needs to get its act together. My friends and I were extremely disappointed and won t be coming back.

Definitely eat here! The owners care about their customers to keep prices very reasonable for food that is top quality, with a wide selection. The chicken and waffles, the Parmesan fries, the mango juice, the benedicts. Seriously, everything was awesome. Service is that perfect balance of friendly checking on you without overdoing it. Absolutely disgusted with the service we received today. Called in an order for pick you was told to give them 25 minutes. Went in 30 minutes later watch staff talk and laugh about my order then come over and tell me it wasn t put in to the kichen and it would be 30 minutes and that I could wait. 30 minutes for eggs! I will never be back or order from here again.

I LOVE this place, specially if you have kids since they have a small area at the back with toys for them to play. It is very nice decorated with palm trees and a tikki bar. Food is really good and the price was great. Highly recommended! Kid-friendliness: They have different toys (for different ages) at the back for kids to play, as well as boosters and high chairs. They have lots of menu options for kids as well.

This was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. This place is an absolute gem, I will definitely be back! Our server Lucy was phenomenal, she was attentive, accurate, friendly, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond. The food was perfectly cooked, the bacon and sausages especially were cooked to absolute perfection, not too crispy, but now too soft and not drenched in oil. The portions were humongous!!! If I wasnt 66 280lbs and hadnt eaten real food since yesterday I would not have been able to finish it all! To top it all off, the prices??!!?? How they are able to give that much food at the price they charge astounds me as someone who has done costing for a restaurant before lol. Thank you so much for everything this morning! It was an amazing experience and the next time I am in Guelph this is the only breakfast place I will visit!

I moved to Guelph from Toronto and I been looking for some west Indian food .. I saw this place and its advertised as authentic trini place ....there is NOTHING authentic or Trini about this place .. there are only Canadian eggs and bacon on the breakfast menu . No west Indian breaksfast items. .. I bought the double because I didnt want to make them myself and I also wanted to try them out in this restaurant.. terrible mistake .. this double wasnt authentic...it has cucumber ..who puts cucumbers in a double and that wasnt roti it was a fried oily pita kinda ting .. the potato Chana had no flavor or pepper sauce .. it was disgusting I couldnt finish it .. I read reviews of this place and the only good review are about its breaksfast..so eggs and bacon ... I wouldnt try their oxtail because if you mess up a double I wouldnt trust you with my meat .. also jerk chicken is not authentic to Trinidad ... Wheres the roti ..the curry chicken and the peppa shrimp ??... This place is whack ..and an embarrassment to my culture ....SMH

Very cute place, really busy on Sunday mornings when I went. The red velvet pancakes were so unique and delicious, and the server was really kind. I recommend skipping the bathroom there, though.

Went for Sunday brunch and absolutely loved it. Food was great, flavourful and portion sizes are big. We brought back quite a bit. The home fries are a must have; they are sprinkled with a special seasoning which make them a bit spicy and delicious. Also tried the doubles which were yummy Will be back in the summer and hopefully eat outdoors.

Their doubles are amazing!!! Honestly my favourite thing from this restaurant. I m a bit of a spice head so their spicy ones are amazing for me. Their mild ones are also excellent (I just add hot sauce). The food is well-priced and the service is amazing. The mimosa deal is great for brunch as well. Vegetarian options: Tons of vegetarian options. My brunch favourite is the Mexican eggs Benedict.

Went and had breakfast there and it was incredibly delicious. The service was fantastic as well and everyone was so accommodating. Just be aware that this is a very relaxed atmosphere and the building is in rougher shape. Seating was a little cramped as well. Despite those few small flaws the service and food more than made up for it. Would 100% suggest if you want a chill relaxed breakfast fit for a collage student on a budget.

Table tops are full of nails and I got food poison I mad mess in my pants while driving home the server was sweet and nice mkenzi I guess was her name if I did not get poison and diarrhea I wouldnt have written this review but I had to give a heads up to the owner here are 5 stars of food poisoning give the salad first than the main course not everything at the same time

A chill place to eat. Had a few issues with some foods (eggs, potatoes) otherwise its pretty good! I recommend their doubles or waffles.

I am a huge breakfast lover and I get the breakfast skillet everytime I can since I dont make those at home. I was excited to try this place but left very disappointed. The skillet was mostly inedible for me.. I ate the eggs and maybe 1/3rd of the rest. The hashbrowns are very largely cut and unseasoned. The sausage was some type of smoked, seemingly precooked, sausage that was too salty to eat. I was expecting the typical breakfast sausage I saw come out on other plates but the skillet has a different sausage. The onions (and I Love onions) were very largely and thickly cut and the fresh peppers were most definitely not fresh but were the jarred red peppers that are soggy and not meant to be in a breakfast dish. My husband had the waffle, which on the menu said it had strawberry compote but it came out dry and not even with butter. He said it was chewy and not like any other restaurant waffle he has had. We wanted to like it so bad...the server was friendly but so slow and it wasnt busy. We sat waiting for out bill for almost 30 mns as she did not come out to the patio for that span of time. Maybe It was an off day, but we wouldnt return as I am not a fan of paying for food that I cant even eat or enjoy. We didnt send it back as nothing was uncooked or wrong, it just wasnt to my liking so we just wouldnt return.

This is one of our regular spots for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Weve been for dinner a few times as well. The food is always great (especially the seasoning on the potatoes) and the service always exceptional. One of my favourite servers is also my birthday twin! The music and vibe are also fabulous. We have yet to check it out late night Friday or Saturday but hope to this month.

Loved the vibe. The flavour of the food and drinks was great. However, the main meals were not hot or even warm enough unfortunately. The appetizer would have been hot, but we had to wait for a while to get cutlery. Will still go back and try again as they were quite busy when we went.

Food is good. Prices are fair. Coffee is not good. We didn t have a good experience since the service was slow and our serve didn t give us enough attention. Won t go back again.

A local gem! Ive been here twice for breakfast and have had great experiences both times! The food is excellent and flavourful and the servers are pleasant and attentive. Prices are reasonable for the amount of food you receive. My only minor complaint if you could call it that, is the decor is meant to simulate an island vibe but it comes across as a little cheap. If youre going for the important things, the food and the service, this place earns top marks! Thanks to the servers for making this an enjoyable place to visit and to the chefs for making my tastbuds sing! 5 stars!

Ordered breakfast through Doordash. Delivery service was very late, so I called the restaurant to ask if I could pick up the order myself and they were very polite and accommodating. After the call ended, someone accepted the order which made a refund impossible. They remade our entire order for us. We didnt even ask them to do it. They just did it. Our food arrived hot and delicious. If youre there for breakfast, you need to try the waffle Benny. Youre welcome. Incredible value, will for sure eat here again.

Service was good, atmosphere was good, the food was terrible. I ordered the jerk chicken bowl and my some ordered the jerk chicken plate. The chicken tasted old like it was reheated from two or more days ago. It did not have authentic jerk flavour. The rice was off.... It was a long thin rice, not basmasi or jasmine... I have never seen this rice used at any Carribean restaurant in my life, no flavour. I was thoroughly disappointed and I am not even all that picky to say the least.

Great brunch with some Jamican specialties. When we went service was not great. Had to go find our own napkins, and werent able to order samosas to take home. Perhaps just understaffed that day.

Great drinks. Overall, food was quite average. The server was incredibly nice and would recommend if anyone is looking for a great bar in the area!

We went to Rise and Shine last weekend and had such a wonderful experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and we appreciated everything they helped with! The food was SO GOOD! We ordered the Trinidad Doubles and had them spicy. They are a must pick and were so great. Highly recommend this spot both for dinners and for brunch!

Ive never had a bad meal at Rise and Shine. You get your monies worth for the price you pay. The plates are full. The Trinidad and Jamacian food is outstanding! There is something for everyones palate. From. Oxtail to the vegetarian fare. Vegetarian options: I had the vegetarian skillet and an order of doubles. I had to take food home because of the ample portions. They both were excellent. Parking: The restaurant is on Macdonell downtown Guelph. On the weekends, the downtown is very vibrant, so parking can be a challenge but not impossible Kid-friendliness: Kids have such diverse palates these days. Trust me that Rise and Shine has something for everyone. Check out their menue online. Wheelchair accessibility: The restaurant is on the first floor and has wide aisles between tables for wheelchair accessibility.

This place was amazing. The food was next level with flavour, portions were great! The prices were very reasonable. Service was fast and friendly, they let us bring our dog into the patio and tie him to the table. 100% recommend the quava mimosas pitcher! Next time we re in Guelph we ll be back!

Nice looking restaurant with friendly staff. Their doubles were tasty, but certainly not traditional. They were a blend of a Jamaican patty and an Trinidadian double. One is enough to fill a person. A huge turnoff was the sheer volume of flies in the washroom, which is located next to the kitchen. Had I seen that prior to eating, I wouldn t have had my meal.

I visited Rise & Shine to try their Caribbean menu items. I had high expectations prior , unfortunately I was dissatisfied with my meal. I ordered the doubles, curry goat and jerk chicken. I received the food after about 30-40 minutes as service was extremely slow. The doubles were not authentic trini doubles as I m used to. The dough was fried but it was similar to a dry pita and had a floury / oily taste. It had channa, potato and tamarind sauce with cucumber. The cucumber did not mesh well with the flavour of the double. The curry goat was very oily , mostly bone but had good flavour and went well with the coleslaw. However the rice was hard and bland. Same with the jerk chicken - the entire dish was covered with a sriracha-type sauce that overpowered everything else. I spent $60 for 3 people, which was not worth the cost in my opinion. Overall , I would not visit again.

If you want authentic Trini food, this is NOT the place to go. Please don t try the doubles, it s nothing like what you would get in Trinidad or the heart of the GTA. I should have known that this place is not authentic when the majority of the menu is Canadian food.

The service was great but food was only decent. My bacon was a little undercooked and they took it off my bill after offering to remake it. Unfortunately the restaurant (and especially washrooms) are quite dirty and unkept. Fruit flies, old dilapidated furniture. The island theme is apparent but it seems to be all the old furniture from a previous restaurant.

Came on a busy morning and got seated right away. Staff were fantastic, and food was unbelievable! Our server Lucy with the blonde hair was amazing, super chatty and made our stay more welcoming and enjoyable. Will be coming back!

Had a great meal today at Rise and Shine. The food is amazing, the staff are friendly, efficient, and accommodating. It was our servers first day and she did an excellent job! Meals are all made fresh in house and it shows. We had the jerk chicken meal, BLT and jerk chicken soup, and kids grilled cheese, all were amazing. The prices are on point for the quality of food you receive. Would highly recommend to anyone !
