A loved one of mine was sexually assaulted here on Oct 19, 2024 at 6pm. A police report has been filed and we are aiming to press charges. Do not go to this establishment.
Excellent Ethiopian food, very flavourful and quick to order. Loved the Veggie platter for two (I ate it all myself but it easily would feed two / three normal meals). My wife is celiac and they mention gluten free injera but you have to call ahead for it so she wasn’t able to eat (hence the veggie platter all to myself). I knocked a few stars off for atmosphere as the bathrooms could use a good clean. Otherwise food and service is excellent and value for money is incredible. Will definitely return
Great food. Authentic taste and texture. Injera was great but need to call day before for gluten free injera which I did not sadly. Had a combination plate and shared with a friend. Lots of food and some to take home also. Will return
The vegetarian platter is absolutely delicious! The picture is a vegetarian platter for 3 people for lunch - which only cost $33 (taxes included). The service was friendly, the food was delicious, very fairly priced, varied, and beautifully presented. Highly recommend!
This is the best restaurant in Guelph. We (2 of us) order the vegetarian platter and yeawaze tibs and we are always SO happy while we eat. It’s reliably fresh and flavourful and this combo gives a perfect variety of options. Again. Best. Restaurant. In. Guelph. Excuse the bad photos, I just wanted to eat.
We just finished a meal with two sets of our neighbours. 6 of us. The place has a wonderful feeling to it, and the service was exceptional. So friendly and clearly proud of their business. The food was exceptional. My husband and I ordered the Warka platter. The variety of items, beans, vegetables and meats were so full of flavour. What a fun night out to eat and laugh and enjoy. Will definitely go again.
We visited Warka Tree (Guelph) on a Friday evening around 7:30pm. Between 5 of us, we ordered 3 *Mild* Vegetarian platters. One of them was the vegetarian platter for 1, while two of them were the vegetarian platter for 2. The Vegetarian platters arrived after a reasonable / short wait time and were bountiful offerings of peas, lentils, cabbage, collards, chick peas and mixed salad, served on injeera, milled from gluten free teff. The various offerings were flavourful, and with the additional rolls of injeera, were more food than any of us could finish in that sitting. We all needed a take away container, including the person who ordered the platter for one. We made the right decision to ask for our platters to be mild, as none of us are true lovers of heat. The service was friendly, the server was patient in her explanations of menu items, and she was attentive throughout our time there. The interesting thing about Warka Tree is that it wasn't just a restaurant. For the regulars seated at the bar and excitedly chatting and ribbing one another, it was also very much like a social club. Some of the men seemed to be there for an after-shift/after-work beer, while others seemed to periodically come and go, like they were passing time among friends, in-between calls or, jobs. The laughter and seemed comraderie lent a casual easiness to the atmosphere which afforded the restaurant the ability to be as much of a restaurant as a comfortable meeting place for its regulars. There was a television streaming music videos from various African locations which also contributed a further cultural element to the restaurant and meeting place, and which was reminiscent of walking into an Indian establishment and hearing a bhangra track from somewhere in the distance, or like finding yourself in an Italian establishment where a soccer game is playing on a TV and an announcer is excitedly reporting the play-by-play, in a non-English tongue - except for the magical word: GOAL! The regulars were friendly, the server worked to be attentive, and we were treated to bountiful platters of delicious vegan friendly dishes. This location appeared to be accessible for persons with mobility assistance devices, but some chairs might need to be temporarily shifted to afford comfortable and easy manœuvrability. Warka Tree is in an area that is serviced by transit, but also offers ample and free parking.
Good fresh food at an amazing price. We love Ethiopian food. If you are new to Ethiopian food, I suggest you try a combo platter to share. You get a good mix of dishes to try, along with several side dishes and salads. This restaurant is very popular with the local Ethiopian / Erytrian community which is always a good sign for a restaurant when those most familiar with the cuisine love to eat there. The prices are amazing. We ate for $35 for 2 people. Service was fine. #roguetrippers. Locals love it.
The food is great... If you manage to get it open. Opening times do not correspond to what is displayed online (by the time Im writing this). It is the second time I check online before coming and it is closed.
WORST PLACE MY FATHER FELL DOWN THERE STAIRS 2 WEEKS AGO AND THEY PUT HIM IN A CAR WITH A BROKEN HIP AND SHOULDER AND DROVE HIM ACROSS THE ROAD TO HIS APARTMENT ACROSS THE ROAD AND SET HIM IN THE GROUND IN FRONT OF HIS APARTMENT BUILDING THIS PLACE IS SICK SHOULDVE CALLED AN AMBULANCE THE MAN IS IN HIS 60 S BEEN IN THE HOSPITAL FOR THE PAST 2 WEEKS
Very good Coffee, food is always good and fresh. Keep in mind its not fast food, its good food.
Food was delicious, good portion
I ve never been inside the restaurant, but the people who hang around store are incredibly rude. They re loud, obnoxious, and openly harass women. I advise staying away from the store.
never been to this restaurant but i do have a few things to say about it. the men around the restaurant are always very rude and ignorant. for example, sitting in my car and a group of men on a motor bike crash it into our car (literally shook the whole car.)and didn t even say sorry and continued to laugh at us when we got vocal and explained that maybe they shouldn t do that near cars. and as we drove off - they immediately got on to the bike again; once again near other cars. where did they end up? at the restaurant. where i know MANY women who have been harassed and cat called many times. please be smart and do not go here it is very unsafe. .
Love this local place and their African cuisine! Off course Heineken beer is available here too Food
Very tasty! Got a wonderful family vibe here. Will return for sure. Vegetarian options: Several vegetarian dishes. Food : 5/5 |
Ordered through Uber eats and we are instant fans. The portion size is amazing and the flavor just hits you. We really loved the Yeawaze Tibs. Cant wait to visit in person!
Went for the first time with my mom and it was so delicious and very nice portions for the price.
I drove 4 hours yesterday and this food revitalized me after I came home! So tasty.
My first time with Ethiopian food, and I love it. The food was tasty, and high quality. The service was also very friendly. I will be back!
Food is amazing. The owners were so lovely and kind. All around, a great experience! They even played Stevie Wonder s Happy Birthday for our friend a birthday. Ten out of ten would recommend :)
I love it here!! I ve been here 3 times in the last 2 weeks because its so addictive. Amazing food and the lady always greets me so happily.
Amazing food, good service, great value. I highly recommend the shared veggie platter!
I made a mistake not taking a picture of the amazing food, we ordered Warka platter and the food was amazing The staff are friendly and the chef came out to say hello
Fantastic food! Well priced and delicious, if your looking for stellar Ethiopian cuisine, this is defiantly the place for it!
Wow! Excellent food. Outstanding value for money. We had the Warka special for two and could not finish everything. Friendly staff. It is not a fancy-schmancy place but it has its own charm and character. Vegetarian options: Many Options
For a couple of restaurant avoiding vegans, this was a wonderful experience. Friendly people and good healthy food. Cant ask for anything more.
Very nice
Had a really pleasant experience here. Feels like a small family(ish) run place. The menu is a little intimidating but there are plenty of pre-built combos that let you try a bit of lots of things. We were skeptical that for 2 was actually enough food for 2, but the portion was big enough that in the end we didnt even finish it all. Everything was good but the veg dishes were the standouts (particularly the collard greens). Dont sleep on the Veggie combo. Service was friendly but pretty hands-off. The space is no-frills but tidy with plenty of seating. I felt comfortable while eating. Definitely worth a trip if youre looking for something different but low-pressure. Would recommend!
Food was TERRIBLE I ordered the doro wat and it only came with one egg and one drumstick barely any sauce and to much injera for 20$ that s not worth IT DO NOT RECOMMEND
A small quaint place. Not much in decor but the food is very interesting! Gotta try something new from time to time! Service was slow to begin and the owners son was drunk when we arrived.
Very tasty food served quickly. The tables are a little worn down but theres a lot of charm as well. You get a lot of food for the price! We were full and had a lot of left overs for dinners.
There is only one Ethiopian restaurant in Guelph. The food is outstanding.
Amazing and tasty Ethiopian food!
I rarely review but this place deserves it after going many times. One of the best and cost effective places in Guelph. It s unbelievably cheap for the volume and quality of food. Everything is great. It makes me laugh every time I order with there straight to business attitude on the phone. A true 5 stars! Vegetarian options: Many of the dishes are vegan or vegetarian
What a hidden gem! never knew about this place in twenty years of living in guelph and was so happy to discover it. Excellent food, very friendly staff and often packed with people coming to enjoy everything there is to offer. highly recommend!
Nice and delicious food
Excellent Ethiopian in Guelph! Ive been to many Ethiopian places and this is the best Ive ever had. Its certainly the best in the KW/Guelph region. There are a few downsides. The service is not prompt. They might forget to bring you the drink you ask for, or not understand you when you ask for details about the food. Their phone was broken for a couple of months and their web site seems to go up and down. But it is a family-run place, and they are lovely people, and the food is exceptional. Go and enjoy, and tell others, so that we can make this gem successful!
One of the rare experiences that has it all - delicious cuisine, generous servings, great price, and wonderful people who offer the service. Id give 6 stars if I could. Try the vegetarian platter
I had never tried authentic Ethiopian cuisine and The Warka Tree did not disappoint! A great selection of traditional dishes with some local eats thrown in too. A great experience all around. The Warka Tree is a cozy space where youll be served by folks who care about your experience. I went with my girlfriend and we had one of their platters. A selection of spiced meats and veggies, all served on a huge piece of Injera. Their Injera is soft and spongey, it was very good. To finish off the meal we were served a coffee ceremony, Ethiopian roasted coffee beans served in a hotpot and poured into espresso sized cups. A great experience and delicious coffee. I would definitely recommend The Warka Tree and supporting a local business.
This place is friendly and the food is definitely delicious. Highly recommend
This is a top quality restaurant. For us the Warka Platter is a good introduction to the wonder of Ethiopian cuisine
Fabulous food excellent service. I would definitely go there again and bring frinds along with me.
Delicious Vegetarian Platter
Great food! Affordable, good service, polite staff. Will come back again!
I came here with my Ethiopian friend and we both agreed the food was terrible. The service was also very bad, basically ignored and felt like we were intruding by coming there to eat.
Awesome food. First time trying this type of cuisine and it was phenomenal. Portions are great, asked for some extra inerja and was given so much free of charge I couldn t finish it all in one sitting. Love the fermentation on the inerja. Such tasty and healthy food! 5/5
The host was very kind and the Warka Plater for two was incredible. Such a special place.
I ordered a vegetarian platter to go. The inside of the restaurant was quite dirty and extremely loud due to the large speaker strangely placed beside the order and pickup cash register. The food was very yummy but did not digest well (upset stomach and so forth). I would not come back here...
I ve never had the food so I can t speak on that, but I d be careful about the men who hangout outside the store later than dinner time. I ve seen them harass children, teenagers, adults, I ve had a very drunk man try to run at me. DO NOT GO THERE. It s unsafe if you re a woman, or a child.
Warka Tree Ethiopean is traditional Ethiopian food at its best. The owner puts love into every dish she prepares. They also sell Injera to take home if you want to prepare your own food. Simply DELICIOUS! Vegetarian options: There is a vegetarian section of the menu. My suggestion would be the vegetarian platter. It has a mixture of beans, cabbage with carrots, salad, beets etc. All are beautifully seasoned and served with injera bread. Parking: It is in a strip mall with ample parking.
The best Ethiopian food you could ask for! If you havent tried it, do yourself a favour and go there and see for yourself. Order a plator and try it all, if you like spice you will absolutely love it, if you dont you may find one of the vegetarian options to your liking. Since Ive know this food, it is by far my favorite. Pricier than some options but worth the coin.
Very delicious and definitely worth a try. Trying a warka platter was more than enough for two people. Will be back for sure!
3 times is a good. Always good service as well.
Food was good. Tried the meat platter. Other menu items also were appealing. Coffee ceremony was tasty and unique
If you have never tried ethiopian food you are missing exciting and unusual tastes. Plates like meat combination (43) for 2 are excellent value. 3 different meats, salad, greens, cheese. Big portions! Food is a bit more spicy then in other ethiopian places. I loved it. Try also their tea or coffee. Their coffee is not acidic.
Great food and great family Vegetarian options: Yes, there are vegetarian options Dietary restrictions: There are vegetarian options Parking: Lots of parking in the plaza
My husband and I dined in last night. It smelled amazing as soon as we walked in! The flavors didn t disappoint, service was kind and patient with our questions. We ordered a combo platter for two and enjoyed every item. It was very quiet come support this local gem! Vegetarian options: Super veggie-friendly cuisine, lots of delicious options
Amazing experience!!!
I love Ethiopian food and was not disappointed! The food was delicious, and there were lots of vegie options! Would 100% order again!
Today is Monday and during the Ontario Lockdown. The hours shown on Google about Warka Tree Ethiopean Restaurant says that they are CLOSED Mondays. But I was very blessed to be able to order their traditional dishes on SkiptheDishes for Take-Out. Their food saved my life! I am a homemaker and I have to manage a lot of things at home. I was finished cleaning and then didnt have the strength to cook a wholesome, healthy homemade meal to nourish my exhaustion. Nothing beats the spices that were prepared and applied magically into the two dishes I ordered. Special Yebeg Tips with Injera Salad included the salad and it was refreshing! The salad vinaigrette is amazing. The meat was spiced beautifully, but slightly chewy, though still edible <3 The injera bread sourness was perfect. And the warmth of the food was good! (Not cold) Definitely going to order this dish again if I ever fall back on cooking at home during lockdown! Doro Wat has the special, authentic taste of Berbere. It had a Chicken Drumstick and a Boiled Egg. It has the SAME PRICE amount of the menu item Special Yebeg Tips. Looking at the price comparing the two -- I wished it said Single-serving portion for the Doro Wat because my husband also wanted to have a bite. But the Yebeg had more so that was the perfect price to feed 2 people. So I would recommend this place if you feel like eating something healthy instead of processed junk food and wish to treat yourself with something more authentic, exotic and healthy! Many wishes of success for this restaurant! Thank you so much for being available on Monday, regardless of your normal store hour operations presented on Google. I will order again in the future! Thank you for feeding us. :)
Really hearty and tasty vegetarian platter. This is one of my favourite restaurants and dishes in Guelph. Yemiser Wat (red lentils in spice red pepper sauce) - which comes on the veggie platter or as its own dish, is awesome! Injera is really good too, and you can buy it in multi-packs to go. Really delicious and well priced food. The chef and employees are really nice.
We had both the Vegetarian, and the Warka special platters. Both were outstanding! Fresh, and flavorful! Delicious!
I dont eat meat so the only thing Ive had is their vegetarian platter but Ive had it SO many times because its so yummy and filling and has lots of foods in it to satisfy whatever craving I have. I especially love the beets in it and wish I could have a whole side of just that sometimes
Love it. Great menu yummy food!
Always great
Im not sure how to know when this place is even open. They apparently dont follow their open hours. I placed an order through Skip the Dishes at 5:30pm on a Saturday when basically every restaurant is open. Restaurant didnt accept order so it was automatically canceled by Skip with no reason (I am assuming nobody responded to Skip the Dishes at the restaurant)and then skip the dishes wanted to give me credit instead of refunding credit card. So I had to waste more of my time chatting with someone at skip the dishes to get my money back. Really bad experience and I didnt even get food. This is the second time I have tried to get food from here during hours that its supposed to be open but wasnt able to either time because it was closed.
Impossible to order food from this restaurant on Skip the dishes or Uber eats. The store is not following their open hours. It says open hours is from 12pm-9pm and I order from Skip dishes at 12:30 and 1:00 and my order keeps getting cancelled. And then I have to waste time to ask for a refund on Skip dishes. It s disappointing cause I need to order from Skip or Uber due to pandemic.
Fast and friendly service, amazing authentic Ethiopian cuisine!
amazingly interesting food selection here. a must for foodies.
This is one of my favourite spots in town. The food is great, but its the people who make this a wonderful restaurant; the hospitality has been more like you are a friend, come in and enjoy and less like I am a waiter, what do you want. its a small but important difference in the feel of the place.
Wow amazing food! So fresh and delicious. We loved every bite of the awesome flavours. We will certainly be back again and again!!!
Friendly people, great coffee, amazing food, comfy and cozy, would definitely recommend it for quality Ethiopian food!
We had items 41 and 42 in the menu. Food was cold, lamb was not tender and the lentil was slightly spoiled as if it was previous day.
Wonderful food and gracious hosts/owners! The platter was a nice way to enjoy a variety of the dishes. Loved the inerja!
My girlfriend and I were excited to try our first Ethiopian food. She went to pick up our order on her own and this guy asked to see the confirmation number from skip the dishes. He proceeded to yank her phone out of her hand, add himself on her Facebook, add his number in her phone, and then forces her to take a picture with him. Non of the other 4 staff members seemed to mind him harassing her
Great service and delicious food.
Amazing service, the food was flavor full but lamb was a little bit chewy.
Best Ethiopian place in Guelph
The ambiance should not be your first factor in deciding to dine here. The service was very good. The food, although different from anything I have ever had was good. I appreciate the presentation and friendly staff. Its good to try different things. The staff would be happy to assist here.
Great food and service!
Attended this lovely place last evening with a Meetup Group... All I have to say is WOW!!! Not sure why I never experienced this cuisine before but I will definitely be back time and time again. LOL. The food was fantastic and so full of flavour! And the coffee roasting and ceremony was a treat for the senses! I actually have a sensitive digestion and to my surprise, no issues at all! Wonderful experience overall! You definitely need to try this place!
Great selection of Ethopian cuisine. I got the veggie platter. The food was amazing, fresh, flavorful. Service was great as well. I will definitely eat here again!
First time having Ethiopian food, wonderful surprise
My girlfriend and I wanted to try this place out for Valentines and were so excited since we love Ethiopian cuisine. Unfortunately, we left greatly disappointed after waiting over thirty minutes without being greeted or offered a drink, let alone any food. We actually walked up to the bar and waited there for ten minutes, hoping to at least get a drink order in, but we were ignored. On our way back to our seats, we got the attention of a lady who was dropping off food to another table and let her know we were ready to order. After another ten minutes waiting, around the twenty five minute mark, the table across from us who came in ten minutes after we did had their food delivered which was really the cherry on top of the abysmal service we got that night. All in all, we are extremely disappointed that this place wouldnt even take our money and wasted thirty minutes of our time on Valentines Day. Luckily we made it to Cafe Greek Garden across town which was incredibly accommodating and offered delicious food which we loved. If youre at all hungry or thirsty, or wish to be served a drink within thirty minutes of sitting down, avoid this place at all costs.
Delicious and affordable.
Friendly service. Yummy food. Quick service. Love the experience of eating the injera and food with hands.
Probably the only Ethiopian:Eritrea cousin in town but the best. The food is flavoursome and pleasantly colourful. I loved the chacha, dulet and the salad most in addition to the terracotta made traditional coffee. The owner and the chef are courteous and very welcoming. I think I am forever hooked with the East African cousin
Amazing east African food, Ive tried many Ethiopian and Eritrean restaurants and this is by far the best, best Chacha tibs in Ontario. I would highly recommend Worka Tree to my family and friends, you will not be disappointed.
Ethiopian food is one of Roguetrippers favourite world cuisines. The complexity of flavours, the richness of spices, and the way the flavours of the various dishes on a platter combine to create more taste sensations is to die for. The Warka Tree has been a place we meant to try for quite some time, and since it is in Guelph, and very local to us, we finally made it happen. We ordered the Warka Platter for 2 which included chicken, lamb, salad, lentils, and beets, and more.
The food here is delicious and I like how they give you large portions. But I think the service there can be improved. Sometimes when I come into the restaurant there is no one is at the front, and when I ate there they didn t ask me if the food was good and I waited a long time to ask for the bill. And sometimes they don t answer the telephone. But food here is really good and would recommend.
Fantastic food. Ordered take out of platters 42&45 for two, on Sentayehus recommendation. Did not disappoint! Also picked up some of the Laza drinks. Definitely going back. Looking forward to dining in once restrictions have lifted.
Delicious food and generous portions.
I was told my food would be ready in 45 min. After 1 hour and 19 min, Im told I still have to wait 19 more minutes for the last of my order to finish cooking. Absolutely unacceptable, will not return .
The staff are always so kind and welcoming, and the food is phenomenal on all accounts. Definitely worth visiting at least a few times to give everything a try!
This place is Amazingggg! The food is delicious and huge portions. Highly recommend it, it s worth an hour drive from the GTA too. We always get #41 and we (2 people) can never finish it, it s enough food for at least 3 people!
Bespoke Ethiopian food. Good variety, portions, and flavourful.
Authentic ethiopian cuisine. Delicious and aromatic.
Authentic Ethiopian food, as good as anything you can find in Toronto. The injera was fresh with a nice tang.
Best Ethiopean food Ive had anywhere, the vegetarian platter is amazing and huge! I wouldnt recommend any restaurant in Guelph above this one.
Great prices and DELICIOUS food. Wonderful service as well. Warka platter is great for a taste of everything :)
Nice food
Food is great, service was very professional and kind! Would certainly go here again.
Best Ethiopean food Ive ever had - get the vegetarian platter!
Delicious. Will be coming back.
An amazing authentic Ethiopian dish!
I have ordered the vegetarian platter for 2 on several different occasions and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I have also tried the meat platter though and found the meat to be extremely tough and overcooked. The staff are also very unpleasant. I live 2 minutes away and will only go if I have a serious craving for the vegetarian dish, otherwise its not worth the bad service we get when eating there.
The food here is amazing. Our waitress was very kind and there was a nice family atmosphere in the restaurant. Very good vegetarian options as well. Definitely recommend
Really tasty, cooked to perfection and great portions.
Always great food and great prices
This place is incredible. My girlfriend is vegetarian and this is one of the only places where we can go and share a meal
Very beautiful clean place and the most amazing food one of the places to experience great people very pleasant personality and welcoming
The food is delicious, and they now also serve caribbean food as well. So if you love roti and double and beef tibs and doro then you came to the right place.
Fantastic food!
The place is a bit dirty, service is quite poor. Our food came before our drinks, one of which they forgot. When we asked about the menu we were given wrong information, one of the women knows the Caribbean menu but nothing else. Our food for 2 came for 1, the made us more but charged us the higher price. Our food was cold... it didnt taste fresh, and while not bad it is undoubtably the worst ethopian we have both had. Both places in kitchener are miles better
What an amazing find. We first ate Ethiopian food over 23 years ago on a trip to Boston. Even in Boston those days it was unusual. Finding Warka today was a blast from the past and such a pleasant surprise to find the atmosphere, people, service and food were outstanding. We had the Warka platter and were amazed at the quality, quantity and price. Well definately be back to work our way through thus menu !
Service was incredibly slow, over 1.5 hr to get the food to the table. The server ignored the table and did not offer any tide us over, nor did she come back to take drink orders. Food was good - but after waiting so long would have eaten the table and been happy
1. If you order takeout, expect most of it to be fridge temperature. 2. Don t even try calling (if you can actually find their correct phone number online), they won t pick up under any circumstances. I ve ordered the vegetarian platter a few times for takeout. The food itself was alright but nowhere near the quality of Ethiopian restaurants in other cities. Biggest problem with this place is they don t care about their customers. If you want to order takeout, you have to show up to order it then wait because they don t answer their phones. The wait is usually only 5-10 min and you will get maybe 1/5 of the platter that s warm and the rest is literally straight out of the fridge. I m not sure if they intentionally give horrible takeout so people come in to eat (which I will never do) or because they just don t care. I ve been there waiting for food while others have come to complain about the food being cold. The lady complaining about her cold food, leaves and in less than 5 min they produced her entire order which I m sure was cold. I ordered my food before her and got it after her and mine was also cold. I started off this review as 3 stars but as I was writing I realized how bad this place actually is. It s worth it to make the drive out of town to a place that values its customers.
It was a long wait for the food but the wait was worth it! We order the platter and was amazing! More than enough for two people. We had plenty of left overs to feed us again the next day. Would recommend to others!
It was a very nice experience there. I would recommend to always pre order. I ordered a meat platter and coffee. The food was very good.
Testy food and good customer service
Very disappointed. The food was sparse and way overcooked. A few pieces of shredded head lettuce and a very small bit of meat. Not much flavour. I ordered lamb and pretty sure I got dried out beef.....the restaurant itself needed cleaning...
Great atmosphere. Very reasonably priced. Very big portions. Authentic
Went here for my friend s birthday and wish she d chosen somewhere else. We waited TWO hours for our food with no explanation, no appetizers offered to make up for the wait, and we weren t even offered drinks. When we were leaving, the server literally pushed our friend out of the door. It seems this is a common local hang out place, may have significance to the local community, but it certainly isn t a place to go for good service or if you re hungry. Too bad, we really wanted it to be good.
One chicken drumstick and sauce( Dori Wot) for $11.99 which was takeaway.call the restaurant to check if the made a mistake but NO. This is a rip off.
Mmmmmmm
Great Ethiopian food!
Great food
Good food.
The veggie platter was delicious!
Totally not impressed. Upon arrival, the place was open but they were doing construction and painting indoors, so tables were strewn all over the place. When a booth was finally put together we sat down reluctantly. The food was only okay. I can t say much about it since I m not too knowledgeable on Ethiopian cuisine. However, if you don t like sour/vinegary foods, this will not be the place for you. My main grievance was the service - absolutely terrible. We ordered a regular coffee because they have that and a ceremony coffee listed on the menu. It took 20 minutes before we got any drinks, only to have the waitress say they didn t have any regular coffee so we opted for tea instead. The food took 30-40 minutes to come out and the gentleman who arrived 20 minutes after us got their food before we did. The waitress never came around once to see how the meal was tasting which really bothered me. Definitely won t be coming back.
Tasty food, but be prepared to eat with your hands!
Authentic Ethiopian food right here in Guelph. They could use more English on their menus, but the food was plentiful, fresh and very tasty! After living in Toronto for years I missed having a place where I could get Ethiopian Food and was grateful to have discovered Warka Tree. Its not quite up to the standards of my favourite place in Toronto, but its very good,
Great experience, went with my SO and we got the platter which was more than enough food. I have never had Ethiopian food before and this was a great introduction. The lady who runs the place was very sweet and next time I go there I going to try the coffee!
Amazing!!!!!!
Excellent food. Welcoming staff and very inexpensive.
The food has a unique taste
Food was good, but I dont think they are used to helping people who are looking to try something new. We felt a little unsure of ourselves, if that makes sense. But it was a neat experience and enjoyed our food!
So the meals were fantastic and a very authentic atmosphere, service was not the greatest. Giving it 5 stars for the chef and food!
The food is excellent! I love getting the platters and sharing around the table. Sadly the last time I was there they didnt have any of the juices listed on the menu except for one and their beer selection was also reduced. The service isnt the best but I keep going back because the food is so good.
Amazing food and really friendly staff!
Fantastic food. I m salivating just thinking about it. A fantastic experience for those who have not tried the customary classic and delicious fermented flat bread served with every Ethiopian meal. Crazy Yum!!
We ordered the vegetarian platter for two. The menu didnt include a lot of detail so we were pleasantly surprised by our dish. A nice variety of curries, salads, beets, collards. We took over half home with us. Most other customers seemed to order beer vs wine. I think thats the right call. The while wine was room temperature.
We have three Ethiopian restaurants in the area that we frequent. Our favourite Guelph location is the Warka Tree. Pleasant, well lit atmosphere. Friendly service. Excellent platters. Expertly seasoned. Proportions are plentiful. We are a family of four and always enjoy our experience at Warka Tree. Nobody ever goes home hungry.
Visited Warka Tree with my son. We shared #42 (see picture of plate for two). The portion was very large. We were both full and I brought some home. The food was very tasty. The bread had a very different texture and flavour than Id had before. The server (who was also the cook) was very friendly and helped us find a good choice of food. There were a lot of vegetarian choices on the menu. We choose a plate that also had some beef. Our drinks (juice) were bottled in Guelph. It was all delicious and well be returning soon!
Great food! First time eating there. Staff very helpful with suggesting a traditional plate as first time tasting Ethiopian cuisine. Will definitely go back. Some time to get food though as cooked to order..
Best Ethiopian food Ive ever had. A jewel of Guelph.
Best restaurant in Guelph, adorable owners. Suuuuch incredible value. Couldn t recommend more!
Tasty and flavourful food. The collared greens were delicious and my dinner date raved about their split lentils. Really delighted to find this in Guelph!
Showed up just after 11am. Offered to sit anywhere. Chose the least dirtiest table. Crumbs everywhere and tables in disarray. Ordeded food and drinks but waitress walked off while ordering, talking to someone else. Needless to say, she did not bring the beer my huaband ordered. While waiting we noticed the floors were all sticky. Tables disgusting( actually went to get paper towels and soap from bathroom to clean our table). Walls are dripping with old grease and pop spray. Definitely not appetizing. Food arrived and it was a huge portion and very tasty. Only plus. Will not be dining there again sadly. Was so excited to try, but very let down.
This was the first time we tried Ethiopian food and the experience was so good. Food was good and had different flavors on it. Food was so filling. Service was good too. This is a nice family restaurant and the place clean too. We will definitely return again soon.
Was good
Dont go because it is my favourite restaurant and I dont want it to get busy! Highly recommend this place.
