McCabe’s Irish Pub & Grill in Guelph

This is a wonderful pub. The food is great pub food. Service is amazing. The only thing I didnt like is the cost of the beer its a little pricy but I guess when you compare 4 dollar beer at Chucks Roadhouse 11 dollars for Stella at McCabes.

my score is neutral in terms of 3 stars.. I never did get a chance to enjoy anything other than the exterior..which had some prettty people just hanging outside trying to draw you in... she was offf the charts A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I would go again just to see if it was truth or the lack of sleeep induced delusions i was having around here.. but yeah wings n things!

Prebooked day before for large group to eat before it was busy. They confirmed this was no issue. We get there and they said no draft beer at all available.....will deal with that ok it happens.....we order food for 18 people and it took almost 2hrs for last plate of food to come out. Pretty ridiculous. Some people couldnt stay and still paid for their un eaten food. Dont say you can do something and not perform. We would have gone elsewhere . Was a 600 dollar bill Im not making noise over 50 dollars here

We waited for a while before anyone came to our table. Finally got our orders in and waited almost 40 minutes. Food was gross - overcooked, unseasoned. Two of us ordered the Beyond beef tacos which were just a beyond beef burger cut in half and put on a taco with toppings. I had the chicken club wrap. The chicken was over cooked and hard to chew. There was no flavour and it was just gross. I only got thru a couple bites and left the rest. What a waste of money. The floor and windows were disgusting, the floor under our booth was wet, and food and garbage weren t cleaned out before we sat down. There were wet spots on the floor throughout the restaurant. Staff were nice enough. Not worth the money or your time.

Came out for a Saturday night Leafs playoff game. Restaurant was very busy - but the staff were ON IT! Great atmosphere. I would highly recommend

Our waitress Regan was incredible while dealing with a very rude and unreasonable old customer. We were so proud of her for how respectful she was in the face of someone being very rude to her in an attempt to get more things for free. I love coming here but now I appreciate the staff even more.

Felt really welcome there, the staff were quick to serve us and friendly. The wings are really good. I plan to stop in, whenever in Guelph. If youre into a pub atmosphere, I highly recommend.

Their trivia is great. When it s not running this place is pathetic. Each time I ve gone non-trivia it s been terrible service and terrible food. The made us the most revolting poutine I ve ever seen.

We had to go up to the bar to order every time, because no one would come to our table. We were there roughly 40 minutes before we decided to leave & go somewhere else.

Service is absolutely awful, they are just rude. ALWAYS ask for your ticket before you pay they try to overcharge you. If there is another place, save yourself the bad time. Sad because the place could be great.

Went to mcCabes New Year s Eve. Upone entry we were charged 10 dollars cover per person which is was reasonable for new years. We were seated and then waited 30-40 minutes and didn t receive any service. So then asked for cover back and was denied that and eventually recieved 30 dollars back but there were 4 of us so for some reason they wouldn t give the remaining 10$ back which isn t a big deal but when I asked for that back the bar tender raised his voice and said he isn t obligated to give that back and then proceeded to get in a yelling match with me. Iv never been treated like that in a restaurant in my life. And because of this will never go back. All over 10 dollars!!

Olivia said her name was. She is my server for the evening at McCabes Irish Pub and Grill. On a Tuesday, on the last day of a short pandemic summer, I decided to sit inside and enjoy a bit of it with an Irish coffee. In this case it was made with Bushmills Irish Whiskey blended with ice, coffee, heavy cream, and simple syrup. It was a chilly day, I am not gona lie, the whispers of winter got louder and louder with every breeze and for someone who gets cold easily I wasnt going to add ice to my drink. I wanted hot and light. To be honest I doubted the poor girls ability to make a proper drink to a drowsy vagabond but to no avail and to my shocking surprise She came through like a lightning bolt piercing through cedar. She came to work with her boots on. Olivia you are the driving force behind this Irish pub, aside from being kind, you know how to make a mean Irish coffee not like that pimple that lives at the zit club.

Nice place to get a beer and great location right at the center of the city. The bartenders were nice too when we asked for a unique drink. Relaxing atmosphere and the wood of the bar and furniture gives a cozy ambiance

Personally I prefer the waterloo location to the Guelph one, but I still had a great experience here. All the staff was very friendly and and entertaining. The menu had a great selection of Pub favorites, and the food both looked and tasted pretty good. They often have live music here on the weekends which is very nice. My only minor complaint is that table service wasnt very fast, but that is understandable considering how busy it was when I visited. Highly recommend to anyone in the area!

place was very understaffed. took them 20 min to even come for our drink order. ordered 4 pepsis all were flat had to literally go behind the bar to pour our drinks. next come the food, what a joke 15 dollars for wings and doesnt come with fries like seriously? after about 3 hours all of our party got sick with food posioning. now we are not sure if it came from here or was it someqhere else. but one thing is for sure. we all came from separate areas as we hadnt seen each other in over a month. so we are assuming it did come fro. this place.

Went in to get a side order of garlic bread with cheese. Today. My husband and i go every week. The waitress says i cant get that i have to get the garlic bomb. I told her we were just tere 3 days ago and had it. Nope we cant do that im told. Its freaking garlic bread with cheese. Very disappointed

We were seated and then never saw a server. After 20 minutes, I approached a passing by waitstaff and asked if we could order our drinks. She scoffed and said she would let them know but continued to clean a table instead. Another 7 minutes went by without seeing our server so we walked out and went to LA Reina.

Had one of the best wings here. Spicy meant spicy and their in house hot sauce is a must try.

Today was my first visit here. Wonderful environment and food. Most importantly amazing service by Autumn. She was absolutely magnificent. Definitely going to visit again.

My teen son and I wanted to have dinner on a patio downtown so choose McCabes. Service was terribly slow - just shy of two hours! When we finally got our meals everything came at once. Garlic bombs were actually just cold garlic bread, gravy was gelatinous, my order without tomatoes came fully loaded with tomatoes, Greek salad had Parmesan sprinkled on instead of feta and my son s cold chicken burger had no sauce nor did we get any condiments. So sadly disappointed when I was looking for a fun time hanging with my son

Beautiful patio weather! So delighted downtown Guelph was busy! As were all the patios. Had a late afternoon burger and fries at Mccabes - burger was awesome and service was pretty good with how busy it was!! Highly recommend!

Not a lot to say. Just what I was looking for on Saturday night. Live entertainment! Band was incredible. Was with some mates having some snacks and beers. Prices were beyond reasonable for todays inflation environment lol service was beyond average and food was perfect. Weather was perfection! Kid-friendliness: Simple kids menu very affordable

Just got a super late lunch consisting of mozzarella sticks, burger and sweet potato fries. The mozzarella sticks were great! The burger and fries were horrible. They burnt my burger so bad that I broke a molar and it was drier than the desert. The fries were scorched on the outside but cold in the middle. Absolutely horrible experience today and we will not be returning.

The food was good but our server with the black shirt and mesh sleeves was awful. Super unattentive we had to keep asking other servers who was taking plates off our tables to grab our server so we can order our food and drinks during a Leafs game final. We were there for almost 5 hours and she came to our table 3 times and stood in the corner talking while scrolling through her phone. She even rolled her eyes at us when we asked for the bill.

The pub was mostly empty at 3:00pm when we were there. Ordered wings & fries as the 24/24 deal, and ordered a hamburger w Caesar salad. The wings were dried out, and both wings & fries were not hot. The hamburger was also not hot. Our wing sauce of choice was not avail. Seemed like everything was cooked hours before or just were left sitting when they were ready to be served. The side Caesar salad did not have fresh lettuce. There were many brown ends on the leaves. Waitress took away the cold dried out wings & fries. Brought a new order fresh & hot but we were disappointed in the quality. We remember them being much better in the past. The burger was only fair for $15. Would not order again.

This place is fine. (But why you gotta dress your nice servers up like that? They seem like they might be cold, and objectified. Not my daughter! (and I dont even have one!))

Worst experience at a restaurant after 30 years of living in Guelph. We went for dinner yesterday ant 4.30pm and the service was so slow even though it was so quiet. We sat with empty beer glasses for a while and my husband eventually went to the bar and ordered his own beer. Beer came out warm. Then our food order comes out wrong, my husband ordered one haddock fish with lattice fries and got two fish with regular fries. I ordered the nacho fries and it came out with no bacon. We realized it would take forever to get the food we ordered so decided we would pay and leave and got the worst response from the manager, who was just really an unprofessional, disrespectful server. When she came to speak to us, she was unfriendly and had a sour look on her face. She didn t listen to what the issue was and never asked how she could resolve the situation. We said we would pay for the couple of beers we drank but not the beers that came out late and warm and were told we had to pay for them plus the appetizer: I asked if they would comp the app because we now had to go eat elsewhere and was told no but she would give us a discount which was $2.50! She then wanted us to be grateful that she wasnt charging us for our dinner but if my food order is incorrect, why would I be expected to pay for it. There was no apology, even though she claimed she did apologize. On top of all that, the leg on the chair that my husband was sitting on broke while he was sat on it and again, no apology. We will never come back and there are so many great places to each in Guelph anyway. We will also make sure to tell friends and family too. By the way, we are foodies, so everyone asks us about worst and best places to eat!

35 mins and counting for a take out order. There is 9 tables worth of patrons. This is the definition of unprofessional. While waiting staff couldn t even offer me a beverage. I will never go here again and I strongly suggest you look for other places to spend your money.

My experience at McCabes was exceptional! I was promptly seated and served with a menu by informative servers who had recommendations for food and beverages. Chloe makes a great caeser and amended it to my preferences! The location provides a great view of the downtown features Guelph has to offer. Expect prompt and professional service that makes a lasting impression.

Pretty good place for beer and sweet potato fries.

Took almost 40 mins just for an appetizer and the place was not busy at all (arrived at 1:30) . Pulled pork sandwich was in a hamburger bun with about 2 tablespoons of pork. Spinach dip had no spinach and was just cream cheese. Crispy chicken sandwich was dry and had none of the sauce it was supposed to have. Chicken wrap was drowning in red hot. Nothing Irish about any of the food. Awful.

Food is pretty good and drinks are cheap enough. A nice place to start your night out before heading to the clubs and there is usually live music on weekends.

Music is a big buzz kill alot of slow, sad songs with a few upbeat tunes in the mix. Service has always been atrocious all of my many times coming here, service is far to slow to check up. Bomb food, really good only reason I go back.

Food was absolutely excellent and tasted really great. I was here with friends from work and we loved it. We loved the vibe. The price of the food was worth it. However, where we sat (not the table itself) was a bit dirty i.e. the surrounding. Our server was great.

My wife and I were on vacation so wanted to do something new for lunch. We also had our youngest daughter who we wanted to treat since she will be leaving for university this fall. We decided to go downtown Guelph to enjoy the patios. We order some appetizers and drinks. The service was amazing and we didnt have to wait to enjoy our beverages. The appetizers arrived to the table shortly afterwards and everything was very fresh and delicious. We had the Bang Bang shrimp which are a really simple dish but the sauce is amazing. We had onion rings and fries as well. I really enjoy just being around the atmosphere of downtown Guelph, especially Mcabes

A pound and a pint for $18 on Thursday. Yes please! Decor is looking tired and a bit scuzzy. Could use some TLC. Service was great. Overall, its pretty good. Not exceptional, but pretty good.

Took an hour and a half to get our order.. still got it wrong... then I witnessed their security manhandled an elderly woman with a walker. They are worse than the rcmp that trampled the handicap elderly in the peaceful protest in Ottawa. AVOID THIS ESTABLISHMENT!

I had the unfortunate experience of visiting this restaurant not once but twice, and both times I encountered blatant racism that left me deeply disappointed. During my first visit, my group was asked to pay a cover charge, while none of the white patrons faced the same request. To make matters worse, they failed to inform us that the kitchen was closed after taking our cover charges. Hoping it was an isolated incident, I gave them another chance, only to be met with even more shocking behavior. The staff informed us at 11 PM that they were only taking last orders, but we could stay longer. After placing our order, our food didnt arrive until 11:45 PM. To add insult to injury, another staff member arrived at midnight and rudely told us to pack our food and leave, even though we were the only ones still eating. Its impossible to finish a meal in 15 minutes. The blatant discrimination and disrespect I encountered on both visits were utterly unacceptable. I strongly advise anyone, especially people of color, to avoid this establishment if they expect fair treatment and good service

This is the first time I felt that I don t belong in this country. The staff is very rude. My friends went at 11:30 pm for few drinks and appetizers. They said this is the last call for food. Which understandable. They said you can sit until 2 which is when the pub was suppose to be closed. Around 12:15, they started clearing plates and brought take out boxes even though we were eating. They said we re closing in 15 minutes. When I went with my friends once before this, It seemed like rules were different for people of colour. Service was different for people of colour. Staff was very rude which I felt was only happening to our table. My cousin had to go home because he left his ID at home (he had pictures in his phone), understandable. However, there were few people came after us who were not people of colour and they did not check IDs for them. One of them did not even have ID, not even in his phone. This is 2023 and these things should not happen. This is sad and disappointing.

Three of us went for the Sunday special 4 bucks off burgers. It was excellent. Real homemade burgers which is the absolute best to any good restaurant. Fries on the side were nice and fresh. Beers and burgers...what more can you ask for on Lazy Sunday. Waitress was friendly and did her job well. Give this place a try.

Great service and yummy meals. There was no air conditioning on a hot September day - it gets quite warm inside. Quiet and calm atmosphere on a weekday around 5pm - but it gets busier on peak days and later in the evening.

We met friends at the Guelph location this past Sunday. We were in a booth against the roll up door. The roll up door was disgusting. The windows were filthy, there was dirt, dust, garbage, and leaves left over from the Summer which I guess no one feels needs to be addressed.The Caesar Salad was made with wilted lettuce that looked like it had been frozen and dethawed. All of the food had a coating of Cajun Spice on it. My husband ordered a burger and Caesar salad and was originally brought Fish and Chips. We dont mind paying good money for quality well prepared food, unfortunately that was not the case. Terrible experience, terrible food, terrible atmosphere.

We have went here many times over the years and it is always ok. Tonight the food was soooo good! We ordered Tacos and Wings. Our server was very pleasant. It was busy before the Storm game but our food was served quickly.

Nice Irish pub, awesome food, great service. We were going to the Riverrun theater and told the waitress and needed to get our food quick. She had our food and drinks at the table in no time and had our bill ready to go with time to spare. Great place !!!

Have been here a couple of times in the last few months. If youre looking for a place with reasonable pub style food, this is a decent spot. Very casual, menu is all pub style items (with a couple of exceptions). Food is good for pub style when compared to other pubs and some good selections of beer. Good place if you just want to hang out, have a beer and something to eat.

WORST SERVICE EVER!!!!We waited at the table for 20+ mins at the table. This is the first time we visited which happened to be our worst customer service ever received. We arrived at around 9.20-9.25 p.m and we were offered a table with the menus. There were 3 serveres at the bar during that time and not as busy as compared to weekends. We waited almost 25 mins and then decided to walk out as the servers were even started serving the people who came after us. We politely told one of the other server about this issue when we were walking out and the only reply was We are sorry. I am not sure if they do this often or is this because of our colour or our race. Anyways we are never ever returning here.

Prior to ordering our meal I went to the ladies room. Three stalls, first one locked, 2nd stall full of paper (no one flushed), 3rd stall had water raining from the ceiling. I went back to the 2nd stall and flushed it, the toilet began to back up. I turned to leave and, due to lights being burnt out, had to feel the walls for the door. We did not order, but left. If this is what the bathrooms looked like, I could only imagine the cleanliness of the kitchen. Before leaving I spoke with the manager, who was working Sat. June 18 approx 6pm. I told her of the situation and that I could not stay in an establishment in which the bathroom was a cesspool. She was pleasant and apologized. We went to the Wooly Pub, a few minutes away. Excellent food and the bathrooms were spotless. We actually told them of our experience at McCabes and when the bill came they took 2 pints of draught off our order. This was not our intent and asked them to charge us for the draught but they insisted. We in turn tipped more generously. McCabes must know that Public Health can fine them for the dirty and disgusting state of the bathroom and that bathrooms should be monitored hourly for cleanliness. Maybe this is why the place had so few people in it.

Went with a few friends. Ordered the combo platter and burger. We asked for the sauce on the side for the wings and when it was served the sauce was in fact not on the side (no biggie). My friend took a single bite of their cheese burger (which also had tomatoes when requested to not) and out came the wax paper used to separate the prepped patties!!! Spoke to the waitress about it, she comped the meal but also made it a point to tell us that this isn t the FIRST TIME this has happened. This is a major health and safety risk. Never ordering food there again.

The food is covering grease its so unedible.

After receiving and finishing my first drink I asked for a refill which the waitress kindly gave however it was a different drink and I often get allergic reactions ti certain types of alcohol. After one sip I brought this to the waitresses attention and she immediately became very defensive and claimed profusely that it was the correct drink. I then left and began to break out in hives and needed a Benadryl. This kind of service must be brought to the attention of the public as this can be extremely dangerous to anyones health. I will never return to such a poorly staffed establishment.

No pints of beer as advertised. The beer glass was tiny around 16 oz or less. Thats against the law. According to the law (Fairness at the Pumps Act) A pint contains 20 fl. oz. (568 ml) in Canada.

Server was kind but food was sloooooowww. In seeming apology they offered extra soft drinks to kids and charged for the refills. Food was ok. Dont order bang bang shrimp. Wont be back .

The place is good. I live in Toronto and sometimes I just need an escape to towns around me in order to get a bit of a change. The place never disappointed me, although last Wednesday the security guard was refusing entry for people without giving a good explanation. My friend was mad and had to go inside to find space. It caused a misunderstanding, which was somehow resolved by Elina the manager and the waitress. They were very nice and they took care of us very well. The place is fun and their food is good. I wish they had healthier options, but in general its cheap and the vibe is good. You cant go wrong. For a few drinks and food youre probably gonna spend something around $300 for 2 people including the tips, but bare in mind we drink more than your average person. Im sure other people can have the same fun for much less than that. Their steak is around $28, which is not even close to any steak restaurant we visit on average. In Toronto a good steak would cost you $40 at least. And that wont even be an A grade piece. In general the place is good, fun, and the prices are very reasonable. The coconut shrimp is really good. Also the fish taco. I wish the fish werent breaded, but I guess its a thing outside the city.

Awful service. Every time we go. Today we wanted to give it a try and we sat outside waited for 25 minutes and no one came to serve us. We left and went to a different restaurant.

Service too slow but good food and beer

Poor service over the last few times going, sat at the door, waited 20-30 mins before being offered to order drinks. Was there for 2 hours and only had the chance to order 2 drinks. Second whisky sour came out so green it must have been just syrup from the taste, couldn t finish it and left

Servers were friendly. Ordered mozza sticks for appetizer and waited so long that by the time they arrived they were lukewarm and the cheese was no longer stretchy. Regular fries that came with the fish and chips were so over fried it was all crunch and no fry. They were out of coleslaw and didnt tell us until the food arrived. Music started blasting for no reason. Had the wrong food delivered to our table 2 times while seated. First time here and so many things went wrong I cant recommend it.

We thought of visiting this place for Birthday celebration but my 6 years old was not allowed. If you have some policies in place put that on your website. Little guy was so upset when he was not allowed.

Service was good. Waitress was friendly. Ordered the fish tacos. They were good but if I could offer one bit of advice. Make the tortilla bigger so that I can enjoy the complete taco. I ended up eating them with a fork and knife Parking: Parking is first come first serve. Is on street spaces

When we arrived there was only two tables occupied. We were a party of four - two small kids. The service was slow, but it did get very busy about 30 minutes after we had ordered. The food was truly bad. Not complicated - a burger, a poutine, mozzarella sticks. There was no gravy on the poutine. The burger was cardboard. The mozzarella sticks had absolutely no pull to them, they were very firm. Id return for a beer or cocktail but wouldnt eat here again.

Worst service I have ever experienced. 2 girls claiming to be management had no idea what they were doing. Find better staff!!!

Waited over an hour for the food and when it came out it was almost cold. Fries were uneatable, could not get through more than 5 fries before my jaw gave out! Way too many things went wrong. For what s it s worth, the 5$ daily cocktail was good

I have been to many Irish pubs all over and yes there is an ok selection of Irish Beer the menu itself is lacking ... the only thing noted that would be found at a good Irish pub was the Fish and Chips.. so unfortunately my table left unsatisfied and one of my friends could not eat anything available due to dietary restrictions requested a coffee and couldnt get a coffee as the machine was broken.

Popped in for lunch on a random Thursday in October 2022. Recommend the banquet burger with sweet potato fries. Quick service, attentive staff, pricing in line for food received. Parking: Easy street parking

Nothing against the staff, those who were working were great. But they were severely understaffed. Decent food, great location. Food

My husband and I had one of the worst restaurant experiences here. The server was rude to us the minute she got to our table which Ive never experienced before. We didnt stay for the food (after reading some of the reviews, were thankful we didnt). The service here is atrocious and I would not recommend this establishment to anyone.

bar was sticky both times I went, service was slow, food was mediocre. not a terrible place to get drunk. I guess, but for me as someone who went in the afternoon and just wanted a decent beer and food I wouldnt recommend

Service is slower than most pubs. Beer is good and food is ok. Been around a while and probably could use a face lift.

Always a nice go to spot downtown guelph whether for the nightlife or noon hour shenanigans. Most of DT has changed the past few years but McCabes has remained the same for as long as I can remember
