Best Mexican Food in town compared to other chains.

Mostly rice with a sauce that tasted like it had a tonne of mayo in it. No lettuce or salsa, just meat, rice, beans and corn even though I asked for everything. Not very tasty, not great value.

Went here today with a couple of friends. Location is very clean, staff are friendly and the food tasted great BUT they do not give you nearly enough protein with your meal considering the average price you are paying per meal. Myself and all my friends were very disappointed with the amount of chicken, steak & barbacoa we each received in our bowls or burritos. Feels as if though they give you 1/2 of what should actually be considered a regular serving for the meal

I want to love this place and i would go more but it seems they have cut their portion sizes by like half!! just not enough food for what we pay.

Not sure whats supposed to be so gourmet about their burritos. This is literally the most bland burrito I have ever had. They dont have half of the fresh vegetables that they should. No lettuce, jalapenos, raw onion or green pepper. Theres also a major flavour gap due to the lack of any good sauces. For over 15 bucks, Im pretty disappointed.

Lunch was just okay. I ordered a chicken burrito and chips with queso. I may have caught them right at opening time but the food was cold. The chicken had little flavour and the queso was bland. While the service was quick and the staff was pleasant, it didn t outweigh the mediocre food.

Fast service and great employees

Easily the best burrito place in Guelph - possibly in Ontario. I have never had a bad item from this restaurant (which explains why this is my go-to takeout option). All the ingredients are fresh and perfectly seasoned. The staff are also very nice and do a great job rolling the burrito so it is never a mess Vegetarian options: Veggie crumble and traditional bean/grilled veggie options

Reposting my review because they somehow had it removed. They habitually ignore or lose delivery orders, not bothering to START making them until the driver arrives. And they dont have the common decency to answer their phones, either. I had really high hopes from this place, and my first few visits a few years ago were great. But they have not adapted well to the COVID era, and I strongly advise ordering elsewhere.

This used to be my favourite place to eat, but now I probably won t ever be going back. The last two times I ve gone, my burrito has tasted awful. Both times I got the exact same order as usual, and yet it tasted completely different. The only possibility is that they ve suddenly changed the formula for their veggie crumble, which is the only non-meat option for the burritos. I don t eat any of the meat that they serve, and since they changed their only vegetarian option without warning, I won t be able to eat there anymore. I am really disappointed and feel like I ve wasted both my time and my money.

I want to love this place but I m often left underwhelmed and upset at how much I ve spent (and how little I ve gotten). I m not sure why it is more expensive than other local burrito places, since the food is not better. I understand the effects of rising gas prices, and food costs are through the roof, but if the tortilla chips are locally made, as stated, why is one bag $7.00? I left with a burrito, side guacamole and a bag of chips and spent $28.00! I didn t even get a drink. The guacamole is bland and the roasted jalapeños (as claimed) are not present. The tortilla chips are supposed to be fried upon order (see pic); instead, they re sitting in a bag under a heat lamp, and dry as a result. I always appreciate a burrito place, but Mucho Burrito (across from the mall), and Fresh Burrito (Speedvale Ave) are far superior.

Came in 40 minutes after they opened and they still weren t prepared in time to prepare any food. Very inconvenient and unprofessional.

Arguably my favourite of the many Mexican burrito/bowl places. Good meats and toppings. Churros are acceptable given the lack of competition. Would like to see a hotter sauce!

Had raw shrimp in my burrito and extremely stale and old churros. Brought it to the front and the young woman stared at me, practically rolled her eyes when I said it was raw and if she could remake it. She did nothing about the churros, including avoiding the question I asked her about when they were made. She was incredibly unimpressed and rude. Zero customer service skills. I wouldn t waste a burrito/food for fun.

This place makes excellent burritos!

Chicken looked and smelled like paté cat food. No flavour only spice, very bland and grainy. I expect mexican to be flavourful backed with spice. I didnt even finish all the tacos and just ate the tortillas. First time ordering a taco kit and 2 shrimp tacos for $37 which is robbery. Save your money and make your own tacos at home for half that money.

I ordered their burritos via Uber eats. They don t joke around with the size. Very filling. Burritos were really good. Definitely like theirs better than other places. Gonna try their bowls next. Will be returning for more!

The food took forever to come and my tacos were ice cold. The tortillas weren t toasted at all, they were sopping wet. I also paid for guacamole and my tacos didn t have any on them. I wouldn t recommend eating here.

Love the shrimp burrito. When Ive ordered and they are at the bottom of an ingredient container, theyve grabbed a new one to make sure I get the freshest toppings.

My favourite place for a burrito/ burrito bowl in Guelph! Everything is (and tastes) very fresh! The staff are very nice and are fast at preparing your food. Plus, the prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. This is one of my favourite quick take-out places in Guelph.

Great place with only fresh and healthy food

I was so happy when I walked into this place and saw that it looks like what you would get at Chipotle, except its far from it. 1. The burrito bowls are much smaller in portion size. 2. They dont have lettuce or nearly as much choice in ingredients (only black beans, plain brown rice). 3. They soak everything in too much sour cream and burrito sauce while skimping on other ingredients. If you want something that looks like warm cereal, eat here. I wasnt offered cutlery, a receipt, napkins or a bag to carry my order in. I shouldve just stayed home and had my frootloops for dinner.

Oh my goodness I got 3 steak tacos for $15 which is a pretty good price for the portion size and the amount of stuff in the tacos! Although the food was absolutely delicious my third taco was soggy from the sour cream but thats most likely my fault! Owner is such an amazing person and so nice! Highly recommend

Decent, if uninteresting food. The food is fresh and the restaurant is clean. My biggest complaint is that no matter how many times you ask for just a bit of rice you get a burrito that is 90 percent rice. The manager is a thoroughly unpleasant human being. My last (and last ever) order was only rice as far as I could tell. I could not find a shred of cheese, vegetables or sour cream. When I complained about it, and showed him my order, he didnt offer to replace it or even apologize. I wont be back.

I would call their quesadilla more like a Mexican grilled cheese (cheese and chicken) No topping options. Watered down sour cream. At least the people watching downtown was fun. Quesada is MUCH better. Will not go here again.

I visited Z-Teca for the first time this evening and had a very disappointing experience. I have heard great things about this restaurant but unfortunately it did not make a satisfactory first impression. Upon entering the restaurant me and my girlfriend waited for a little more than 5 minutes before being served as all the employees were working in the back. We ordered a Veggie Crumble burrito and were somehow given a Battered Cod burrito, not even close to what we ordered. I dont understand how this happened but the staff member was condescending when we politely pointed out the error and waited patiently for her to make the correct burrito. You didnt see her put the fish on? the employee rudely remarked, referring to the other female that made our order incorrectly initially, as if it were our duty as customers to supervise the staff as they perform their work. I dont usually let an incorrect order ruin my experience at a restaurant, but the fact that the staff were so impolite regarding a mistake of theirs left a bad taste in my mouth.

Best mexican in Guelph to be sure! On the one hand it s sad that a fast food joint is the best tasting mexican around...but tis true! On the other hand...the food is fresh and flavourful, the meat is tasty, the veggies are great and the salsas decent. They are generous with their portions and the service is always friendly I find. It s my go to for as good a mexican meal as you can get in Guelph!

Burritos are nothing to write home about, but the tacos are great, large and cheap ($4 for what looks like 5/6 tacos). The proteins are all good to great from what we tried. Personal rec is to get the cod, fried fresh and hot, the perfect contrast to the cool salsa and generous cheese and cilantro. Or try the pulled pork with the mango and pineapple salsa. Downsides: chain restaurant so nothing exceptionally adventurous and daring, bad hot sauce options, no corn tortillas. Overall: solid for a chain restaurant, fresh and generous veg, good protein options and great value. Would come back.

Im confused how so many people seem to give this place 5 star ratings. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing or went on an off day because my burrito bowl was nearly inedible. Chicken was rubbery and poor quality, the bowl was almost entirely rice for a $12 price tag. Need more vegetable topping options. Beans sitting in onions & liquid was unappealing. Wont be back.

This place could be epic. The quality of food is awesome. The problem is the staff. The owner is great & the other dark guy, but the white guy & all the dark girls are sub par almost to the point of rude. They act as if they are doing the customer.. a favour. Even if no one is there, they rush you and act like you are annoying. Never a smile.. might crack the face I guess. A lot of my friends have said the same. Start to avoid the place because you know the servers will be only tolerating customers. Really ? This place will go down , not because of the food but because of the ignorant, unfriendly staff !

Staff were reluctant to give ingredients even when I mentioned I had an allergy. Burritos were mostly rice, maybe 6 beans. We got our order 15 min before close and they asked us to leave despite my son not being done. Ive never been kicked out right at closing time without warning. Quite unacceptable. Wont be back. Bar Burrito is better.

Decided to give this place a try today around 3:45pm. All of the employees were hiding in the back room (could see footsteps under the kitchen door). We waited for 5 minutes and no one came out. Even tried shouting hello to get someones attention. Pretty poor service! I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because the environment seemed cool. Might give them another try in the future if the service improves.

Tried the pulled pork burrito. It should be called a rice burrito. It was the most lack lustre burrito --- heck it was the most lack lustre meal Ive ever tried. For $12 for one burrito I want the WOW factor - I can only post this if I give it a star but in my opinion it didnt even deserve 1.

What I like the most about Z-Teca is their respect for ethnic food and tradition. I might be biased because I ve been part of the team before, but what I can tell you is that respecting old fashion recipes and procedures is priceless! This is what you can call slow cooked food, served in a fast food environment. PS: If you re looking for a greasy, full of mayo and artificial flavours monstrous size burrito for the after party, this is definitely NOT the right place. Now, if you want to bring your kids to the closest to a homemade hole in the wall Mexican changarro where grandma is the cook GO FOR IT!
