If you like batter, this is your place. Way too much batter. Very little fish. Very disappointing.

Holy smokes this place is good. Had the halibut with chips, and my wife had the same but gluten free. Perfect ratio of fish to batter, the chips were just right, and I dont even like coleslaw but I even ate that. The only fish and chips I had that even came close were in Seattle. Im told the gluten free version was the same as my experience. Price was great as well. This is another North end gem, so glad we tried it!

So happy to find gluten free fish and chips and gf battered shrimp, too! My parents had the regular fish and chips and the kids had burgers.... everything was fried perfectly, not greasy or heavy at all. It all tasted amazing and the service was literally extraordinary. Definitely recommend!

The absolute best fish and chips in town. And the owner is so lovely and remembers all her customers, a real family restaurant. And they have gluten free fish and chips, which is not easy to find.

At one time this was a great place to eat, friendly and pleasant. We arrived at about 6:20 and wanted table service since the retaurant is open till 7:00. We were told that after 6:30 they won t seat any one. I mentioned that it was well before 6:30 but we were told sorry . We will definitely not go back.

Very friendly. Good fish. Great service. My only recommendation would be that the tartar sauce was a little thin/runny for my liking, and the french fry portion could be a bit bigger. Coleslaw was good. I will definitely go back again. I would definitely recommend it.

I m surprised with so many positive reviews. This was hands down the worst halibut and chips we ve ever had. Very thick batter and rubbery chips. 60.00 for 3 fish and 2 chips (take out). These are not the British fish and chips I grew up with.

Ordered gluten free fish, and it had an orangy coloured batter that tasted like corn flakes. I did not like the gluten free at all. Hammerhead s in Hamilton is the only place that can properly batter fish gluten free. We paid a lot of money for heavy batter and a thin amount of halibut. Feeling ripped off! Thanks for the gross food!

Absolutely my favourite place in Guelph for fish & chips! Both their pickup and delivery options have been great during COVID, everything is delicious and hot when you are ready to eat. The prices are very reasonable and you get a good amount of food for the price. They also have a dedicated fryer for gluten-free items (including the fries) which is wonderful for my partner who cant have gluten. The staff are great and very accommodating regarding allergies and intolerances, they advised us about the malt vinegar containing gluten as well when we ordered there for the first time.

I m really surprised to see any reviews less than 5 stars. Had halibut and chips with gravy, coleslaw and tartar sauce. Absolutely lovely, great portions, friendly service. Will definitely be back soon.

Glunfree fish and chips and great service

Ordered the gluten free fish and chips, and it was delicious! The staff (family owned I believe) was so friendly, and helpful (gluten free is new for me). So far I havent enjoyed the no gluten very much, but theirs was so good, you barely remember its different! Thanks so much! Will definitely see you again!

Ordered takeout for the first time tonight and was absolutely thrilled! Excellent quality and quantity food for the pricing, all the condiments you could need and perfect service. Will be visiting again shortly.

The Facebook page Caught on Guelph voted this as the best Fish & Chips in Guelph so we had to try them. And it was 100% worth it. Their fish portions and so much bigger than anyone elses in town, and yet they were cooked to perfection. I enjoy crunchy french fries more than the kind they serve at Captain Jacks but they were still delicious and the breaded shrip appeticer was completely worth it. Cant recommend it enough! (Also, they were so nice to us on the phone and when we went in on Saturday).

What a fantastic local restaurant! The fish was amazing. I have been driving by this local restaurant for the past 20 yrs, without going in. I sure missed out. My advice to everyone, stop in tonight, you won t be disappointed . Thanks to all our local restaurants for hanging in there this past year.

I found this place not long ago but now we go very often to get fish and chips. My wife and kids love it.

The fish and chips were delicious, the batter was perfect and just really enhanced the flavour of the fish. The bartered mushrooms had a nice flavour though there was a lot of grease in them. Fries were absolutely to die for. Service was super friendly. Only reasons I only gave it four stars were: -the Mac and Cheese bites were made with KD and it was like 7.95 for like 6 bites. To me, I don t think it s worth it when it s Kraft Dinner and the taste was just not great. -the coconut shrimp had barely any coconut and it just wasn t great. We ll definitely be ordering from here again because the fish and chips speaks for itself, though I don t think we d order the other stuff again.

Great fish and chips and the service is fast and friendly. The hostess makes sure you have all the extras (cutlery, ketchup, vinegar, etc.) before you head out the door with your takeout. I go there almost weekly and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Im from Cambridge. But whenever Im in Guelph for shopping or what have you. This is a must stop place. I literally drive out of my way to get here. The couple that owns it is as sweet as can be. They are always happy to see you. As for their food. Its really good. I love how their fish isnt overly bartered and you can actually taste and enjoy the fish. Their portions are great as well. Seriously, if I lived in Guelph, I would gladly order from here once a week. Help out a great local family business during these troubling times.

Ordered through skip the dishes at 6pm and the delivery driver didnt show up at the restaurant until 7pm which is when the store is supposed to close... Not only did they stay open to wait for the driver but they re made all the food so it would be fresh and they did it all without us calling to complain, theyre the ones that called us to apologize for skip the dishes being late. Food was priced good and tasted amazing would definitely eat there again but will never order anything from skip the dishes in the future.

This must be the only Fish & Chips restaurant on this planet that doesnt give you tartar sauce. Plain Fish & Chips is not very favourable. Any rating above 1 star is fake. Very disappointing dinner order at our workplace. Will never order from again.

Best fish and chips in Guelph

What a great little resteraunt ! Weve passed by this storefront many times saying we should try it and finally got around to visiting. It wont be the last time ! The fish and chips (why would you order the burger !) were cooked to perfection, crispy English style batter (available gluten free too !) fresh cut chips and a generous helping of homemade coleslaw. The staff were great and the feel of the resteraunt would remind you of being on the East Coast. Good value and just right portions.

The food at this restaurant exceeded my expectations and the customer service was delightful. I enjoyed visiting Captain Jacks for lunch and will likely do so again in the near future. You can feel good giving your money to Captain Jacks restaurant in exchange for their lovely fish and chips; big chain restaurants dont really need your money and have servers that will never remember you and dont really love their jobs. Captain Jacks, however, is an amazing, independent restaurant, run by a hard-working couple who deserve for their restaurant to thrive for many years to come.

Wonderful haddock as well as schnitzel on a bun. Reasonably priced and good portion sizes. Family owned hole in the wall type of restaurant. Youre paying for the food quality, not the decor. Would eat here again.

Ive been to the Guelph location 3 different times, and theyve been closed during their posted open hours every time. If you plan to come here for lunch, have a backup plan in mind. Last time I will be trying this location.

Quaint little West-Coast style fish and chips restaurant with super friendly staff. Seems to be a local favorite. Ive been for lunch a few times and have seen regulars come in and out. Fast service and good food! I recommend it.

Had the haddock special for lunch today..$8.50!!..way cheaper than a greasy burger and fries. Service was quick...a great place to stop on lunch. Portion size is perfect.. not too many fries (which how many times would just ended up wasted)...and I do prefer my fish with light batter which they will happily do upon request.

The halibut and chips were very good and so was the coleslaw and mushroom soup which my server Sandy said she made herself. Extremely friendly server. One of the friendliest Ive ever met.

Its a cute little restaurant thats easy to miss. The prices are very reasonable for the food you get. I went for lunch and got haddock, the taste is spot on. The staff are friendly and service is quick. Would definitely return for another lunch excursion.
