One of my favourite restaurants ever, I love this little spot. My parents used to take me here when I was a kid, and I still love coming to this day. Love the food, the service, the relaxing and homey vibe. Perfect.

Food was delicious and made using quality ingredients. The only downside is the lack of parking. There are a very limited number of on street spots and the parking lots nearby are reserved for other businesses.

Took my wife out for a dinner date here because we were intrigued by the experiment dinner. Kudos to the chef and serving staff! We each ordered a couple appetizers and the experiment dinner and were told they could make any modifications for allergies, preference to spice level, etc. we didnt make any modifications and were each provided the most delicious melt in your mouth fillet mignon, mashed potatoes, perfectly cooked veggies. The experiment drink was also delicious, as I mentioned Im partial to amaretto and accommodated. Will definitely be back again!

Definitely one of Guelphs hidden little gems!!!! Attended New Years Eve and it is a quaint relaxing atmosphere!!! Food was amazing had Prime rib dinner!! So.. Good!!! Yummy!! Staff was just lovely!!! Best secret in the heart of Guelph. We enjoyed the daily lunch special.. delicious beef taco and best ceasar salad! Our waitress Resh was very attentive. Great ambience and nicely physically distanced. Accessible bathroom on main floor.

Checked this place out based on reviews. Sadly we were disappointed. While the food was great the atmosphere was odd. You enter immediately into the dining area which created some confusion for new patrons and also a cold dining room for those eating. There was no sign stating wait to be seated which made you feel you were entering through the wrong door. We had to look around for a staff member. Our server was extremely slow. We were given menus promptly but not offered beverages or told the specials until we were asked if we were ready to order. Perhaps it was an off day for the staff but I wouldnt recommend this location if you are looking for a cozy lunch.

I really wanted to like this place, I have never been and I was excited because of the reviews. Unfortunately, the customer service was not great. The server was very rude from the get go. They came up to us at the door and gave us a seat right next to the door, we asked if there were any other tables (as we have never been before and we didn t know if there was more space than the main room, I still don t know if there is lol) and she said Nope that s it in a standoffish tone. We said alright now worries, just wondering. We sat down and noticed there were no drinks listed on the menu or a drink list. When she came back for our drink order we asked if there was a drink menu. From there she, very irritably, went behind a table and grabbed a chalkboard wine list (only bottles) off the wall and then she went off to get the beer menu. 10 minutes later comes with a very large chalkboard menu and holds it, we re obviously annoying her as she s making it very clear. We both ordered a beer and she grumpily says So you re both ordering beers, why did you make me grab the wine list?! We said we didn t know it was right there and we didn t want to get a bottle of wine. The beer menu wasn t even in the room and we have never been before , We starting to feel so sorry and so anxious at this point to piss her off. We order the food without and issue, she was just annoyed with us. Food was good!! I work in the service industry and know that it is stressful and sometimes long days, but that was seriously the worst customer service I have ever had. I wanted to leave cash and just leave without the food because I was anxious for her to come back. Food was good but wouldn t go back

Services 2/10 Food 7/10 Portion sizes 10/10 Patio 10/10 I couldnt believe how rude our server was to us (and to other guests). We waited too long to have our order taken, and asked another server to grab our waitress. She arrived and said what, are you in a rush? When we stayed that we were just ready to order she said you reservation was a really for six but you showed up early. This was not the case, we had adjusted our reservation hours ago. Even if that had been the case, thats not how you handle that. We were on the patio (which was great) but we then had the opportunity to hear her unpleasantly bark at other potential patrons saying that they had no tables available. One couple walked up and asked to see the menu, and rudely said to them (3 times) that there were no tables. The couples still wanted to look at the menu as they live nearby and may be back another night. She was so short with them and treated this request as extremely inconvenient. The couple walked away shocked (but laughing) about how rude she had been to them. The table next to us was also taken aback when - seconds after being handed menus - they were asked if they were in a rush. They even asked the server why she asked them that question when they felt they had not given indication that they were in a rush. She offered an explanation that I did not hear. There serverice was enough to ensure that we will not be returning customer.

We were so looking forward to eating at this establishment but I have to say, it was disappointing. First off, the chair I had to sit in was broken and I almost landed on the concrete patio. We asked about the wine list which wasnt listed anywhere and then asked about the size of the glass of wine being offered, after that the chalk board was brought out with the wines listed, per glass and bottle, it would have been cheaper to order a bottle, the per glass size was paltry. Our friend asked about the special that was mentioned and if the Steak was Tender Loin or not. The server was very rude to us pretty much all through our time there, we were told pretty much you get what you are served and whatever the Chef decides to create, so no real answer on Tender Loin or medallions. We were disappointed with the rude server, the vague answers to questions about the menu and foods being offered. Our friend couldnt finish his dinner because the beef was so tough. My appetizer of Mussels was OK except for there were 7 of them that were not open and couldnt be consumed, when I mentioned this to the server it was pretty much oh well, generally there are 1 or 2 that dont open ... this was 7 of them which I was paying for. My chicken dinner was good, the beef dinners were tough. We would not go back again to eat here either.

My husband and I are foodies and know all the best places to eat and Einsteins is one of those places. It s one of the best places to eat in Guelph. After having a horrible experience at McCabe s last week, it reminded me that I meant to write my review about Einsteins. We took our daughter and her boyfriend for dinner 2 weeks ago for a celebration and as always, amazing food, and service. The prices are really reasonable especially when you get the amazing quality of food. We enjoyed the Cajun rounds to start and the sweet potato quesadillas and chicken quesadillas and vegetarian quesadillas, all were delicious. We also enjoyed two bottles of wine at a reasonable price. Thank you for the great service and experience.

Small quaint place. The food doesn t disappoint and the prices are very reasonable. It s a bit of a hidden gem due to the location which is on a side street away from downtown.

I was in Guelph in 2012 quite a bit for work and discoverd Einsteins. It was my go to place for creative, imaginative and all around excellent food. I am back visiting and took my wife and her cousin/ hubby for dinner, hoping it was still as good. It was, and everyone loved it. One of the many things I loved about Einstein was the amazing soups that you cannot get anywhere else. Last night the carrot corriander soup was right up there with the best. We started with warm cornbread which was killer. Prime rib special was amazing - ask for horseradish, it is homemade and special. Wife and cousin had sweet potato quesadilla and loved them. Our server Kay was great and ran after us when we left without our boxes of food. My wife commented how the prices seemed very reasonable and after seeing huge portions and quality she was more impressed. We were stuffed and were going to take carrot cake to go but sadly they were out. All in a l it was like visiting an old friend and realizing we are still best pals. Too bad we live so far away.

Our waitress Sam (I think) was so pretty and nice and sweet all night long. Would highly recommend she get a pay raise! Great environment :)

Bill Redman We recently celebrated my wifes birthday at Einsteins...there was a group of 15. From the moment people walked in the restaurant the feeling was welcoming. Our service, food and overall experience was top notch. This was another reason why you should support our local independent restaurants, with a very fair price also...The comments from the quests were to come back and try all of the great looking meals that everyone was having...thanks again.

Great location, friendly staff but the food was a huge disappointment. I ordered the e=mc2 bowl and all the components were stone cold (obviously refrigerated from the previous day(s) and not freshly cooked that day, the quinoa was cold & mushy, the squash and beets unseasoned. I would expect warm fresh and full of flavour. I think the chicken may have been cooked to order but had very little seasoning. Did I just order the wrong thing? It sure sounded delicious but definitely didn t deliver.

Our food took over an hour, I had the fish. It was greasy and bland. It was disappointing as the place came highly recommended to me and I was looking forward to trying it.

Attended a bridal shower. The waitress was exceptionally attentive, the chef very cheery and helpful! We loved the sangria, all salads were delicious and a very nice assortment of wraps and sandwiches followed by tasty coffee. I would recommend this venue for any gatherings or just a nice spot to enjoy a quiet summer afternoon. Quaint, peaceful, quiet location.

Terrible experience. Firstly the menu is outdated and states items are all $15 unless otherwise specified. We were informed this was for takeout. We then proceeded to wait 45 minutes of our hour lunch break for food. Eventually had to ask for it to took. I ordered the chicken with bree and mushrooms and the potatoes so were so burnt they were inedible. Additionally the service was not good considering we were one of 2 tables in the restaurant and we had to find our server to ask for service. If I could give 0 stars I would, way better options in downtown Guelph.

Love this place... a hidden gem that never disappoints! The menu is unique, the food is always spectacular freshly made and the service is great. Portion sizes are excellent...always leave full and satisfied or with leftovers for lunch the next day. Prices are very reasonable and the patio is spectacular in the summer. Been there many times and yet to be disappointed in any way. Highly recommend this place...one of my favorite spots wlithout question.

There are few places in Guelph that strike a good balance between a cosy atmosphere and good food. Einstein Cafe was a perfect balance. They name says Cafe but I think they ate proper restaurant. I will let the management to comment if they see the place as Cafe or restaurant?

Hosted a retirement party on the back patio and had the most wonderful time. Rocky and his team is incredibly kind and attentive. The back deck is a beautiful place to host a private party. The food was amazing!!

Einsteins is my team to go for lunches and I absolutely love it. The food tastes great every time and the quantity is something I absolutely love about the place. I usually have 2 servings for my pasta. The staff and prices are great as well.

We chose the option where they choose what we are having for dinner and let me say we were not disappointed. We each got a different delicious meal, it was beautifully presented and a very generous amount of food. The staff were wonderful, I loved the art for sale on the walls and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.

Einsteins is a hidden gem in Guelph. I have never been disappointed eating here, the house salad is by far the best salad I have ever had and the entrees are cooked perfectly every time. 100% recommend if you are looking for a great spot to try!

A hidden gem in downtown Guelph...absolutely my favourite little funky joint with delicious food! The staff is unbelievably friendly and helpful. We will be back over and over to try something new everytime we come. Everything is made from scratch and you can taste the love in the food!

Food was amazing. They have the best garden salad Ive had with a house dressing. Prime rib was melt in your mouth. Salmon was cooked perfect and ended up having 2 pieces. Ended meal with creme brulee. Will definitely be eating there again.

Best Salads in Guelph.

This is hands down one of the best restaurants in Guelph. Total hidden gem, with some of the most delicious and unique flavour combinations I ve ever experienced. Rocky and his team make incredible food, for incredible value. This place is a MUST try, everything on the menu is top tier. (Some of the best Mexican I ve ever had) Do yourself a favour, and try them out today!

I cant imagine its easy to run a restaurant right now but like tonight was something else we order the thing on the website that said basically the cooks decide what to make. They decided to make some sort of chicken kind of parm and mystery white fish... two things id normally avoid at a restaurant but I had an open mind. Well the fish was quite clearly frozen since it was rubbery, fair enough we are in landlocked guelph. Fish somehow ended up being both chewy and mushy, its was also soaking wet for whatever reason and relatively flavorless. The chicken was rock-hard and dryer than the Sahara dessert and also flavorless. I get it, stocks are low and options are limited for making things but it really doesnt excuse how it was made. Also with a surprise me type order idk who thought it would be a good idea to choose chicken almost parm and fish? Two very not ideal restaurant orders unless you really like that stuff. 4 stars because maybe today is just an off day since Ive had the food here before and it was good but it reeeeaaaly was not good today 2/10 on the food but 10/10 for still running during this time. My main point is, avoid the surprise me option at all cost. Probably wont be ordering here again but its not to say its a bad place, just had a bland and disappointing order this one time.

Wonderful Cafe. Everything Ive had is top quality. Homemade food. I would highly recommend the Cesar salad with grilled chicken.

Amazing food, great ambience, service could be better hence the 3 stars. The staff did not respond well to specific dietary requirements and did not really want to accomodate us. We had their quesadillas and the quality as well as the quantity were beyond average. Oh and also, sometimes they are fully booked on weekends so always call ahead. Dont know if that was a excuse made by them to avoid serving customers with dietary needs or they were actually fully booked for dinner service. The interior is pretty cool, i have not checked it out but have heard lots of great things (especially the Einstein facts/pictures on the walls). Their outdoor patio is very cozy however the chairs could use an upgrade, an hour of sitting on hard metal chairs is not very comfortable but does not contribute to my 3 star rating. They do not have a separate fryer if you are looking for a Celiac friendly kitchen. They do try thieir best to avoid cross-contamination, no reactions yets so thats something. I like how their menu is on a piece of a black board and is always being updated with new items to try. Will definitely return to give them another chance with their service.

I had the Experiment Dinner, and it did not disappoint! My experience is Chefs love when they can go rogue from a set menu...this meal option is different every time they made it! One person had pasta, and I had a Mexican style chicken dish. 10/10 recommend! Very affordable, two dishes and a bottle of wine was very reasonably priced.

As a long time fan of Einstein s, I am so pleased to be able to enjoy Rocky s excellent dishes during Covid. My friends and I continue to get take away as we have porch visits. Three out of four of us were disappointed with the experience last night. It took an hour to get our meals after ordering despite the small number of guests on a Tuesday night. One meal was under-cooked. Two of the mediocre pasta dishes came with such a vulgar quantity that when we finished, it looked like we hadnt touched our meals. And they forgot to add shrimp to my jambalaya. We sat in a quaint corner that was very cold. This was the first time wed been to Einsteins since before the pandemic. The waitress was lovely and attentive.

First off, the food was great and delicious! However, the service was horrible. Our waitress made a rude comment about we being undeceive where to sit. When we said yes to fresh pepper, she would not return and her tone was in general not friendly. After we paid, she run off and did not say anything like we didnt gave her a tip which we obviously did. When we walked out the restaurant and said to her have a good one, she would just ignore us even though she heard us as she made eye-contact. Would return if the service was better. Comment to owner: last Saturday

Update July 2020: The cafe has made an update to the staff. Our server, Kelly, was amazing! My family and I went after work and wanted a place with a patio nearby. Called a couple other places first but they were full. Thankfully Einsteins has a table we reserved. The food was good. Ill be back. (Original review from 2018.) Id love to rate this restaurant a 5-star. Its so close to my new office that it could have been my regular (3x per week) lunch spot. Heres why I cant: When you show up just after the 2pm the lunch period you cant even get a cup of coffee or a drink. I took someone who works with me out for lunch on the first day we moved into our office. The food was good. I went back at 2:05 to buy my friend a drink for his 50th birthday and was told we had to go somewhere else. It seemed odd to me given the place was still half full and wouldnt clear out for an hour or so. This happened to me again 1 week later, so now I dont even bother. I walk past this restaurant almost every day and go somewhere else. It is amazing how much a poor server can cost a restaurant.

Food was great the price is right and services was tops a must try.

I ordered the experiment and wanted something with red meat and got a awesome meal which is the idea behind Einsteins. I like how the owner showcases local artists painting that are up for sale which speaks the attitude of the owner for supporting local people of Guelph instead of the bigger restaurants here in guelph Service was top notch and friendly. When I visit Guelph, Im sure to stop here everytime either it be breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Great food and service! Received 20 takeaway meals for a staff holiday luncheon around noon. Great variety of choice, affordable flat rate prices. Meals came packaged with each individuals name and order. smooth service and great safety protocols. Delicious! will return!

This used to be my favorite spot in Guelph, back then the service was as good as the prime rib. Today, you should still go for the prime rib but you may be waiting an hour or more before they bring it to you. It seems like there has been some turnover in staff or management recently as our last two visits have been less than stellar in terms of speed and attentitiveness. We are off to find good beef elsewhere unless something significantly changes here.

Brought a colleague here midweek for lunch about 1pm. A pleasant greeting at the door but then no menu for 20 minutes. We were not in a rush but ??? Four tables were amidst or finishing and one large table of at least 6 looking very hungry by the time we were finally served (with a yummy special) and so by 3:30pm we opted to go instead of waiting another half hour for the sweet. The food here is always uniquely good, varied and fairly portioned as well as reasonably priced. Is hiring adequate servers for this small space the problem? Have always loved the vibe, its funkiness, the location and the styling that with subtle and classy upgrades have somehow retained echoes of this establishments history. I think Ill try again but ... hum!

This is a hafta go spot when in Springfield!!! Great breakfast. Good lunch. Best breakfast horseshoe ever!!! Coffee is hot. Iced tea is good. Place is clean. Wait staff is friendly. What more can you ask for? No trip is complete without coming here.. Ive had a few different lattes and snacks. The snacks can get very pricey considering what youre getting but the place makes up for it in charm. Its not the fanciest place by any means but Metropolis is practical and gets the job done right.

Service got off to a very slow start but then everything went well. Caesar salad is fantastic. Good portions.

Dinner took forever and was subpar at best. Definitely won t be back Response to Owner: If you can t accommodate groups, don t book them. We ordered 1 round of apps and a main. Didn t realize this would be a tall order for a restaurant. Perhaps instead of being condescending and blaming your customers for what they ordered you could try offering complimentary bread and maybe apologizing for the wait next time.

Have been here many times over the years. This restaurant always offers great service and delicious food. Last time I went with a friend for drinks after work and didnt feel pressed to order more. Would highly recommend it.

We did The Experiment option and it was AMAZING!

Food is fine. Nice ambiance, but service left us and our food cold! It took 3 hours to finish our supper with friends--not because we enjoyed leisurely conversation, but because it took forever for each dish to arrive...from the water and salad to the horse radish that should have accompanied our prime rib--to the cheese cake my daughter had to chip frozen chips from to eat! Especially at that price, we expected better!

Better call ahead if youre looking for an afternoon table. Planned a meeting at Einsteins for 3pm. Website site said open. Doors were locked. I called and there was a recorded message saying they closed for the afternoon and would reopen for 5pm This place had an awesome patio shaded by nature trees and shrubs. They also had an impressive tap list and comfortable seating. Sorry, cannot comment on the food or service as there were none.

This is a lovely restaurant with amazing food that is tasty and reasonably priced. It has been around for decades and continues to be a great place to meet with friends and have a great meal and drinks.

Beautiful patio, great food and wonderful music during the warm months. A perfect summer dining experience!

This quiet little house has some great homemade food. The sausage pepper penne is my personal favorite on the menu. The small private room upstairs is great for small company dining!

It was very good and very good service

Brought my partner, whose is both vegan and gluten intolerant, and the server could not have taken better care of us. Truly excellent service. The food was good too, and portions were large. Recommended!

A older house made into a restaurant! Room felt private. Waitress friendly with great service. Meal not skimpy. Enjoyed the mussels. Will go back next visit to Guleph!!
