Love coming to Symposium for breakfast! The Eggs Benedict s are always a hit with me and I ve always had Paul as my server. Paul is a fantastic server who takes care of his customers

Went here on a Saturday morning. We were seated quickly, our server was pleasant. Coffee was good and top ups were quick. The restaurant looks nice, with large booths and plenty of space. The menu was pretty beat up and a bit dirty. Looked like it hadnt been wiped down in a while, I found stuck stains on the rear most pages. I got the Chicken club with fries, and a side gravy. The sandwich was terrible. Dry, chewy chicken breast, unripe tomatoes and wilted lettuce. I needed to ask for mayo, it didnt have any on it. The fries were ok, clearly bagged fries with some seasoning salt, and the gravy was also ok. While I have no complaints about the service or the setting, the food put me off, and thats going to weigh my review down further than the other elements.

The cafe has a nice vibe and atmosphere to it. Tyler offered an amazing service, and we had a really nice experience overall. Would definitely recommend!

I had a couple good experiences years ago and more recently a bad one. Service had been exceptionally slow. It might have been almost an hour before we ate and it wasn t even that busy. I decided to give it another go and went for breakfast. The menu was very limited to what I could eat as I can t have any wheat. For me this place just isn t worth it.

This was an OK experience. We have been here several times over the years. The food was good, but the price has gone up and the portions have gotten smaller. It has been a go to place for us, not so much now.

Lovely food and very attentive service by Amritha on what was a very busy night for them.

I made a reservation for five on the patio and the reservation was accepted. When we arrived the server showed us to a table for four (honestly it would have been tight for four people it was more like a table for two) and offered to squeeze in another chair. I mentioned the reservation was for five and the server seemed unable to process what the problem was. She did not offer to even push two tables together. We stood awkwardly on the patio waiting for an appropriate response and there was none. I suggested sitting inside. After looking at the menu and the exorbitant prices ($10 to add chicken to a salad or pasta!) we left. Every aspect of that attempted meal was unsatisfactory.

My husband and I have always had wonderful service provided by Paul. Food is delicious and quick! Parking: Very quick and easy

Disappointing meal. I had fish & chips. The fish was overcooked and the sweet potato fries were undercooked.

The food is amazing, however, Paul the server is wonderful and is why we come back. Great breakfast experience!

Decor was nice. Food was so so, and very expensive. $30 for a salad with chicken on top and a coffee. And the chicken was overcooked and tough. That s a crazy price for not so good food. Find somewhere else. I certainly will.

Ordered for takeout today, food was decent but was floored at their prices for to go pops?! After tax, $5 for a fountain pop..the same amount you would pay to dine in at the restaurant and have free unlimited refills. Should reconsider your takeout prices, complete rip off

Took my girls to symposium for dinner. We had never been there at that time. We normally go for breakfast. Our server Amritha was excellent. The food was great too. Both my kids raved about it hours after dinner. We will be back.

Mediocre is the best way to describe the experience. The host was more concerned with answering the phone than seating the people standing in front of him. Once seated we waited over 10 minutes to be greeted by our server who seemed annoyed with the host who put us in the section. We had to ask for our drinks and once our food came out ~ we were switching parts of our meals that had been mixed up. The restaurant is tired looking and needs some attention. Not a great experience.

Go-to spot in guelph for a relaxed date with the girlfriend! Their wings are SUPERB! All the servers are great, but Amritha always go above and beyond. Vegetarian options: My girlfriend is vegetarian and shes never had a better fake meat burger!

We have been to symposium several times over the years with no concerns however in the last year I can say we have been disappointed everytime we have gone but today I felt a review was warranted. We ordered truffle steak bites (24.95) the were tough , tasteless and serving size was very small , chicken wings (19.95) not a great chicken wing . Three entrees a chicken ceaser wrap(this was ok average wrap ) chicken teriyaki bowl ( I have always gotten this over the years yet in the last three visits it has changed , no veggies in it other than raw Brussels sprout pieces that are bitter and some green onion pieces and sea food pasta which was ok but lacking in flavour and variety . Our bill was $150 with taxes and no alcohol . $45 for two very small very un appetizing appetizers . So very very very disappointed.

We have been loyal customers to Symposium for a long time. Today was our first visit since the menu change and it was extremely disappointing. Shrink-flation at its finest. The prices are higher, the portions are smaller and some of the food quality has changed. Do not order the braised ribs- they are not worth it. For 35 dollars you get two small pieces of ribs with a sprinkle of potatoes and veg. You are better off going to the Keg or Montanas. The calamari portion has shrunk and the price is more and the childrens chicken fingers have changed. My girls loved them but wouldnt touch them today. Our server was lovely and apologetic (not her fault obviously) She made the evening out worth while. Thanks Abby. We dont know about returning now which is a shame because this was one of our favourite dinner spots

We love symposium and have been visiting often. We enjoyed great food today and the service was very friendly. However, maybe because of the menu change, they dont offer Sunday Kids Free Special anymore. But, it is still listed as a Daily Special on the website, so customers will be confused. The new menu, Fishtaco, was excellent.

We waited about 20 minutes and then flagged down a waiter so we could order our food. After taking all of our orders she informed us that the kitchen is backed up and it will take about 30 minutes to make our food. The restaurant was not even halfway full so we ended up leaving and going elsewhere.

Had lunch today with a friend and we both had the perogies. Absolutely horrible. Very tough and not much flavour. Had trouble cutting with a knife. Needed a very sharp steak knife I would think. Think our order got forgotten and left under the warmer too long before it was picked up. Maybe even put in microwave to reheat. Service was terrible. Hardly anyone in the restaurant and took forever to get menus. A table came in long after us and were eating before we got ours. Had to remind the server. Complained and they gave us half off which was lovely but would definitely not come back to this restaurant. I have always had good food at Symposium but not this location.

Had business team members up from the states and its a great place to host a large number of people. Staff very helpful in booking their room for these type of things and overall everyone had a great time, and enjoyed the dinner

The vibe and customer service was great! However the food tasted kind of bland

Waiter had very little knowledge regarding the food. It took 1/2 hour to order and 4 times he had to go to kitchen. Is advertised as gluten-free but had very few options. Basically salad with no dressing for $15.00. Portions are very small. Had to track him down to get the bill. Expect $30- $40 per person, no drinks. Not worth it.

Has to be the best Symposium I have been to in a long time. We had a young waitress who did her best serving us. It was obvious she hasnt been serving for a long time but was friendly & kept checking on us. The food was great & the location is in a great spot. The only thing we didnt like is that there is only a single washroom & the door is literally right at the bar entrance for the staff so you hear the washroom & see each person going in& out. The bathroom looks like an afterthought as it is centered in the middle of the restaurant, with the drywall around it built into what should be the staff area behind the bar. With our booth right across from it, it stuck out like a sore thumb. We needed to go but chose to stop elsewhere because we felt awkward going when everyone could see and hear who was in it. Not to mention I dont think a wheel chair could easily access it. Vegetarian options: They had some protein bowls and salads that looked delicious on the menu but I had the steak sandwich and my friend had the chicken sandwich. The chicken was supposedly incredible and my steak sandwich was pretty good Parking: I found the handicapped parking a little awkward as its at the end of the building and not really set up very well. Would be better if it were close to the doors and if you didnt have to walk through the driveway to get to the walkway

Came by for dinner with family for spouses birthday. The atmosphere was very calming, and the service was good. The manager was very kind, and had a good attitude. The food was to my surprise delicious! Finding more and more restaurants not tasting as good, so when I tasted my food I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was! Even the desserts were good and very filling! I would come again, and I would recommend!

Our new breakfast spot! The last few times we ve been, we have had the pleasure of Paul serving us! He is super friendly and very efficient with what he does. The food is always fresh and tasty.

I went to Symposium on Good Friday for wine and apps. They have half price wine on Fridays but our server said the manager took it away for the holiday. I find this so cheap and disgusting to make some more money. We left and went to another restaurant that had the same special and didn t even think of taking it away for the one Friday holiday a year. I ve been here in the past and it was decent but if they are going to nickel and dime it s not worth going back. Give your money to an independently owned small business instead.

Amazing food, usually amazing staff until tonight. We had a very unfriendly server, she barely spoke 2 words to us, never checked on how the food was, didnt refill our empty glasses, when we asked for chocolate sundae for my son and she said okay chocolate ice cream and walked away, my son was like oh its supposed to be a sundae and she very rudely snapped back they are the same thing ...which i had to clarify they are not the same thing as sundaes have whip cream and sprinkles. 1- you should never snap on a customer...nevermind a child, especially when you are incorrect!

Wish I saw the bathrooms first! I would have never ate there! Meh food for high priced breakfast in utterly filthy bathrooms. If they keep their bathrooms that dirty, tells me how clean they keep their kitchen!

Terrible food, overpriced, and questionable food safety. Would not recommend the breakfast or brunch menu here. I had a smoked salmon dish and my salmon was mostly grey and brown. Staff are nice but disengaged and busy.

My husband and I came in for lunch today having never tried Symposium before. Our waiter was super friendly and did a great job through our time at the cafe. The problem is the food. We had the warm spinach dip to start, my husband had the Symposium burger and I had the vegetarian wrap with Caesar salad. Now, the Caesar salad was great, and the flavors of the other things were good, but good God they use so much oil that I had to hold my wrap with a napkin. And my husbands hamburger bun had disintegrated before he could even get a proper bite in. The dip even was solid oil. All we could taste, even after eating the dessert (which was great btw and I can see why Symposium is famous for dessert), was oil. There was no flavor left behind because of how oily everything was. I didnt expect that coming here and especially didnt think that it would be the case with a vegetarian wrap. You can literally see in the one picture how bad the oil was for even one part of my wrap; the other side was so wet the wrap had disintegrated basically. So while the service was great, and the dessert was really nice, I dont think we will be coming back here due to the food and the fact that it was almost $100 for our food when it didnt feel worth it.

The staff for lunch and breakfast are awesome.

From the perspective of a 7 year old... The bread was a little crunchy and there should be root beer available. The chairs were very comfortable and fun. The food is excellent. The service is 5 star. From the rest of us - The food is excellent with great portions. There is a good Happy Hour from 3-6 pm everyday. The kids menu is really good and kids eat free Sunday. Excellent overall.

Some of the items we ordered were not up to our expectations. Fries needed to be cooked longer, calamari was over cooked (rubbery). Chicken seemed to be package and was not flat top cooked like we were told, chef Mic, microwave. I had the fish and chips, fish was really good. The manager came by to see how our experience was...

Absolutely horrible experience...will never go back. My friend and I both ordered the BLT with side Caesar salad The sandwich had two small pieces of bacon, lettuce and the tomatoes were not edible. The tomatoes were white in colour and hard as a rock. We brought our disappointment to the managers attention who responded that that is the way they get the tomatoesHe took our plates and said he would show the kitchen staff. When he returned he advised us that the tomatoes had now been separated in the kitchen. Not sure what this meant ...but obviously this did not address our concern over paying almost $20.00 for a sandwich which was not edible. Imagine our astonishment when we got the bill and the manager did not take the cost of the sandwich off the bill. When I talked to him about not taking the sandwich off the bill...he basically said too bad and didnt care that we were really unhappy. I have never written a poor review before but couldnt believe the lack of customer service. I will be letting all my friends and family know to never go to this restaurant. For the sake of a $20.00 bill this manager could of and should of handled this situation so differently and we would have left on a positive note. There is a lot of competition with restaurants in Guelph. I will be spending my money in a establishment the serves not only great food...but am made feel that I am a valued customer. Perhaps a course in customer service would benefit this manager so this restaurant does not lose more customers in the future!!

Bad portion sizes. It s not even a fancy enough restaurant where that s expected. Paid $32 for schnitzel cutlets and was only give 4 cubes of roasted potatoes, I understand why they put the cutlets over to potatoes now. Very disappointed

Went to have a coffee with a friend, was able to enjoy a Chai latte with plant-based milk. Seating was comfortable and roomy, one side was more casual but nicer coffee shop, and the other side was more private with booth style seating. Staff were very friendly and quick, would definitely return! Dietary restrictions: Has several plant based milk alternatives for beverages.

Got my fiancé a chicken vegetable soup last night as he was sick and it was $10 for this tiny container of soup that consisted of soo many herbs and vegetables, hardly much soup, definitely bottom of the pot remains. He took one bite and didn t drink it anymore.. I tried it and it was super sour. Definitely do not recommend

Lunch Special Menu... scnitzel and chips with onion gravy was fantastic!

Seafood pasta was excellent, huge portion! The carrot cake was dry, which was disappointing for a place that prides itself on its cakes. There were groups having their Christmas gatherings here when we had dinner, they were so loud we could barely hear each other at our own table which made the experience less than stellar this time. So maybe avoid at Christmas if you want a quite dining experience.

This place was great, a surprise find everything about it was great. Great portions and fresh food. Will be coming back for more for sure!!

1/10/24- another late night dessert night with my daughter. The owner was in tonight and is always so very kind and attentive. The server was was polite. We had cake and coffee and I ordered a burger to go. They never rush us out even though its late. 12/16/23- another great meal and exceptionally good service. Came in with my mom who wasnt feeling very well. Our server Paul grabbed her some gingerale and crackers and suggested the chicken soup..he was so kimd and kept checking in with ua to see how she was doing. 11/27/23 -Once again stopped in with my daughter for dessert after a walk. Dan was our server. As always we had amazing service. He was attentive and very polite. He Made us some spectacular drinks. Very friendly conversation. --------------------------------------------------- Stopped in with my daughter after an evening walk. We stopped in fairly late, to have a slice of hummingbird cake and a coffee. Thomas was our server and was fantastic. Very attentive, and polite. Id go back again just based on the service but the cake was also a hit

Absolutely awesome and food exceeded my expectations!

Went for Thursday date night special. The price was very good for two people. Food was ok. The menu handed to us had a different steak option than what was posted online. We received the online version. Steak was cooked perfectly, but the rest of the meal was underwhelming. Service was excellent. The restaurant itself looks a bit dated and lacks personality. While our meal was ok, our experience wasnt enough to make us want to return another time.

Eggs benny have no flavor and not a lot of sauce. The eggs/muffin should be completely covered in sauce. Home fries are fantastic, just wished I had more I also didn t get alot of fries as well. Server was fantastic! Very friendly.

I finally got to check out the Guelph Symposium and I am impressed! Service was great! Food was amazingly delicious! I really enjoyed the atmosphere. I noticed they have a couple large rooms that can be closed off for large parties. I highly recommend you stop by for breakfast lunch or dinner!

Nice room.for a larger gathering

I picked my wife up from here after an evening with a few ladies for a Christmas party. I think there was about 12 of them. One server that was very overworked so meals were slow and drinks were forgotten. Something that you can hardly blame the person for, its more of a system that seems to be broken. My wife had fish tacos and she ate one, took the other two home...but shortly made their way to the garbage after she thought about how awful they would probably taste after they were reheated...soggy fish She was pretty bummed about the food, as were a few of the other ladies, which sucks, because they had a fun time all hanging out. My wife had a few and while waiting for her ride, she asked for a coffee and they billed her for one. I mean, yes, that coffee has a price tag. However, they knew who she was and the large group she was with and decided to charge her for a coffee. Really? Close to $1000 spent on a group and you charge for a coffee? Classy move.

Maryam did a awesome job serving our family Christmas dinner.

We attended for a large family gathering. Maryam did really well at keeping the flow going, without feeling rushed or waiting too long. Kid-friendliness: Our kids were happy with their meal choices and dessert. The private room gave them room to play.

Your regular run of the mill type breakfast place. Bacon was terrible, eggs were ok. Dont think I would go back
