Tacos, margaritas and 50+ different tequilas draw crowds to an eclectic restaurant and cocktail bar.
Wow wow wow What an absolute gem of a place!! Came from out of town for a work trip and was pleasantly suprised with this place. Firstly, the staff were absolutely amazing! Secondly, the vibes were immaculate, such a great atmosphere! Lastly, the food...$10 for 2 tacos was an insane deal for some crazy authentic food and the Espresso Martini was great! Cannot recommend this any higher!!
I wish I could give this restaurant, its servers, and chefs a negative rating – perhaps a minus 100! It truly takes some kind of creativity to make everything taste so terrible. I’m honestly puzzled by the positive reviews; maybe the staff and chef have recently changed. But let me tell you, this experience was unbelievable in the worst way. We visited on what was supposed to be a simple Sunday, traveling from Milton to Guelph for brunch/lunch. From the start, our server seemed completely lost, constantly apologizing for every issue. Did that help with the frustration and hunger I was feeling? Absolutely not. Am I over it the next day? Not at all. We were starving at 1:30 p.m., and I ordered a steak dish from the main menu. The server even brought me a special steak knife, only to come back 10 minutes later to inform us that they had run out of all main dishes. Really? Was this a joke? Why wasn’t this checked before we ordered? We should have left right then, but my 8-year-old brother was so hungry that we stayed and ordered different meals, which I ended up disliking. Everything we received was shockingly salty and greasy. My aunt couldn’t even stand the taste of her taco and had to ask the server to remove it from the table—it wasn’t even included in our bill. I managed to take two bites of an egg dish that was topped with a dreadful mayo concoction. How do you waste quality ingredients so badly? My mom’s dish was no better; the taco shell was soggy and, again, overwhelmingly salty. I sincerely hope the manager reads this review and makes some serious changes, because while the restaurant's atmosphere is great, the food was appalling. I deeply regret the $7 tip I left the server, as she didn’t fulfill her responsibilities properly. And a big shout-out to the chef for ruining our weekend. After leaving this restaurant, we ended up going to Montana’s, a place we know consistently delivers good quality food, just to get a proper meal since we were still hungry. This was an incredibly disappointing experience for all five of us and a day we wish we could forget.
The waiter was so nice and gave us recommendations for food. He suggested the street corn dip, but we had our hearts set on guacamole! But next time we want to try it for sure! Love the ambiance
The food was pretty good, drinks were great! We were seated outside, not in the main area and found that we waited really long for our food and drinks. I wonder if that is because they were as busy as they said they were or they kept forgetting about us. Overall I would come back and try more items on the menu. The servers were really nice!
Beautiful restaurant, amazing staff and the food is absolutely incredible. So fresh, different varieties of proteins and the drink menu is great as well. I enjoyed the house beer but the cocktails and tequilas are great as well. Beautiful decor inside and fun, open patio as well. Can't wait to go again.
I very well located restaurant in Downtown Guelph. Big space with numerous tables, offering eating outside in the terrace or inside. The menu is not large, but good enough to capture many mexican platillos from appetizers to tacos. I tried the nachos, and the portion was big, so come hungry or prepared to share. Tortillas were crispy, good amount of cheese and guacamole. Next, I tried the chorizo croquettes, which were not a big success. It was used chorizo sausage instead of a real chorizo. These croquettes were not the Spanish croquettes, without a proper bechamel, but they were correctly fried, crispy and juicy inside. To finish, I tried their specialty, baja fish tacos. I have to admit they serve generous portions, and these tacos came with a good amount good fish and compliments in them. It is also true that when eating tacos, they don’t need to be full since it makes it hard to eat them. Overall they tasted good, however I would upgrade the quality of the fish used for the tacos. In general, this is a good restaurant to stop by and enjoy a meal with some drinks. Price is very affordable, costing around $40 per person, which is always a positive reason to try out new food. Staff and service was adequate, always attentive and making sure there was nothing missing on the table
I recently explored Guelph’s nightlife with some bar hopping, and La Reina was my first stop. When I arrived around 10:30 PM, I was surprised to find the indoor area relatively quiet, with most patrons seated outside. This provided me with ample personal space to enjoy a few sips of beer while listening to the music. The servers were polite and attentive. Although I was initially unsure about the drink recommendation, it eventually turned out to be a good choice. Next time I would like to try their tequila ( agave derived) as the theme of the restaurant felt more Mexican, and probably those are their specialty.
Stopped in here for lunch with two friends. Solid spot with a great vibe inside. Staff were super friendly and the food was solid. The drinks are definitely a bit premium price wise, but they have a solid selection and all of the drinks we got were great. Overall, I’d give them a very solid 4.7/5, and I will update my review once I go there again.
Cool spot
We ve ordered corn fritter, (super sour) tacos - Tempura Cauliflower and Baja Fish along with a Lager and pineapple mojito. Other than the drinks, everything else is bad - the food (both quality and quantity), the service everything and for the food they serve, this place is super expensive. Worst experience.
Great food, large portions, nice vibe. Saturday night service can be slow at times, be patient. Good food takes time sometimes drinks are top shelf good.
Overpriced for the quality and quantity. Cold and old rice, lukewarm and dry pork. Decent place for drinks and appetizers, mains were extremely disappointing.
Great atmosphere. Our server treated us very well. The tacos were delicious.
My boyfriend and I were excited for our first experience at La Reina. It took 15 minutes for us to be greeted at our table and brought water - and once we were it was by someone who said out actual server would be along shortly. She took our drink order, and it would be another 30 minutes before our cocktail and coke would arrive. Upon them being delivered, I asked for a straw. It would take another 10 minutes and asking a second server before receiving a straw. Our corn fritters appetizer took another 30 minutes to arrive, and once it did, it was greasy and lukewarm. Our server Nicole didnt check in on how it tasted until after we had been sitting with empty plates for 15 minutes. After waiting another 30 minutes, and an apology from our server, our three orders of tacos arrived. Two of the dishes had ice cold food, but the third was too hot to consume right away. We again waited another 20 minutes before anyone would ask how things were. At this point we were extremely frustrated, hungry but turned off by the food, and were ready to leave. A different server came by to let us know they would comp 1.5 of our dishes and we again asked for the bill. A manager followed up to reiterate the same discount and apologize for the service. We again asked for the bill. It finally arrived, and with discounts, our dissatisfying experience still cost us $160. (We had a second round of drinks and two tequila shots earlier). There seemed to be no reason for the poor quality of service - there was no turnover, there were empty tables, and servers seemed completely disengaged. It was likely our worst restaurant experience, so no, we would not recommend, and no we didnt want to stay another 40 minutes for the complimentary dessert they offered. Boo.
I got the Los Pollos tacos, Al Pastor tacos, and Slow cooked brisket tacos and they were all so good! Especially the brisket tacos! We then got their Tres Leches dessert and it was so moist and tasted amazing! Also had pitchers of passion fruit tequila and spicy pineapple tequila which were also really refreshing. Highly recommend this place.
The food is excellent! Margaritas are, too! Will keep going back! Parking: Go early for a walk-in, but youll need reservations for dinner... Food : 5/5 |
Excellent food and service. The sauces were awesome!
Disappointing experience. Arrived on Friday evening at 6 for scheduled reservation. Only 3 small tables seated the rest of the restaurant was empty. We were seated in the back, as far away from any site lines as possible. When we asked to be seated in the front section so we could see out we were reluctantly moved to another table steps away from the first (again in the back). At that point we were told that was the best they could do because they had reservations. We had reservations...so what gives??? There were LOTS of empty tables. We left. The only thing I can imagine why they would do something like that is that we are 2 seniors and they wanted an image that was not us in the front of the restaurant. Staff certainly gave us that impression they were rude and dismissive. Too bad for them because we were planning on having a nice evening out with drinks apps, tacos and maybe dessert. We would have dropped a bundle. We will never go back and tell those we speak to of our experience.
It s disgusting, Don t give tips, the management keep it they don t give to their employees. Worst experience .
I recently visited this restaurant with my family and was disappointed by the food quality. The taco I ordered had stale bread, and everything was overly salty, making it hard to enjoy the meal. Additionally, the service was disorganized, I wouldnt recommend this place.
First time at this restaurant in downtown Guelph. The food was good, a nice amount of spice without overpowering my palate. Service was outstanding, good response to my questions about menu items and nice check back without being intrustive. I was offended by uniforms worn by some staff that included cute phrases like Taco Dirty to Me. I object to restaurants using sexualized practices to drive business. Customer service workers, both male and female, have to deal with the burden of offensive customers who mistake common courtesy and friendly behaviour as an excuse for sexual banter and more. Encouraging such offensive behaviour with skimpy uniforms or offensive language on uniforms is unacceptable to me
Very disappointed with the food and service!
Very good food. Among sharables try guacamole! Al Pastor was also delicious! I was here Tuesday lunchtime and there werent many people. Parking: I had no issues, but I think it can be difficult to find space close by in busy hours
Got sick from eating streak stake, it was not cooked was raw!
Fantastic cocktails and service is top notch!
Our server was Melinda, and she was fantastic; very attentive and gave awesome recommendations. We had some guac, the fish tacos, the birria tacos, and the pineapple bomb for dessert with the margarita sampler. Everything was so good! Thanks so much for a great evening, we will have to come back to try more. Wheelchair accessibility: Bathrooms I dont think are wheelchair accessible but Im not sure
Horrendous service. Went with the purpose of having lunch. Started with drinks. They came. When they came I ordered an app (was still waiting on my guest). Said I would order food when my guest arrived. A kitchen helper brought the app and didn t ask about anything else. Once the app was dropped off NOBODY came to our table. Not to check on us, not to see if we wanted more drinks or food. I ended up having to go in to the restaurant (we were in the patio) to request my bill. When I explained the issue with service I got an apology, nothing else. There were two staff in. One couple in the restaurant and three tables on the patio. I will never go back.
The spicy shrimp taco is wild. I wanted to savour every bite!
I ordered take out from here, the service was great super nice staff. I would suggest getting the taco kit, it was a good deal. El pollo and al pastor tacos were great and flavourful. Their classic margarita mix was fresh and delicious too.
Went two times and lucked out the first time - the tacos were sooooo yummy! They werent that good the second time around, the shell tasted like it was a tad too old to be served. The cocktails have been fantastic every time, so will happily give the tacos another try. Super friendly and helpful staff!
Please BEWARE if you have any religious / dietary restrictions/allergies!!! Ordered a vegetarian mushroom enchilada. Made sure the order was clear and cross verified with the person who got the food to the table that it was vegetarian mushroom enchilada - he agreed. On being billed it was found that it was a chicken enchilada!! Each person just claimed innocence and said it was probably someone else who made the mistake. Everyone including the manager was casually apologetic and said they would ensure better training in the future! Just be careful when dining at this place. Correctly ordering and cross verification on getting the food, still does not ensure you get what you want. No one seems to know anything really and they just say YES to whatever you ask the food is. I fear for anyone with an allergy; which will be casually ignored. Can be fatal!! Casually destroying anyones religiously beliefs and being careless about dietary restrictions, is assumed to be taken care of with some sorrys. Unacceptable!!
I dont understand how the service at this restaurant can be so slow. Waiting, waiting, waiting. This place owes me like 45 minutes of my life. Everything is painfully slow. Hats off to the chefs, they are doing well. Servers need training badly.
Its not bad.
Wonderful birria tacos and cocktails!
Delicious Tacos, dips, chips. My favorite is Fish and Biria tacos!! Very very good also original margaritas are delicious, give it a try if you like margaritas.
Kate our server was fantastic!! Food was top notch and desserts to die for. Although Kate was wrong in regards to the best dessert which was the passionfruit one she was very informative!!!
Thank you for making my birthday great! Great churros. Great buffalo chicken tacos Great service and great customer service for reservation. Kid-friendliness: Kids menu colouring and courteous servers to the kids
Bro this place sucks
Great location in downtown Guelph. They sell freshly made tacos and have options for everyone. Personally I think their shrimp tacos are the best but the others definitely dont disappoint. If youre looking for quality definitely come here. The corn dip is very good too.
The food was just too ok. They Change their nacho toppings frequently, which I wish they wouldn t. Drinks are expensive but delicious. Food
Mexican brunch is a MUST!!! Cant wait to come back
Went there for lunch. The guacamole and tortilla chips were excellent. We ordered three other main dishes that tasted very good, although the portions were small. The margaritas were excellent, perfectly balanced with the right amount of alcohol. For dessert, we had churros that also tasted great. Overall, it was a good experience, but we ended up paying nearly $200 for a family of four.
Drinks and service were good but overpriced. Food was mediocre and obscenely overpriced.
We brought our 8 year old son for a dinner out! The food was great and our server Lily went out of her way to include him and make him feel special! One of our favorite restaurants and happy to share it with our kids now!
The service was painfully slow. I would watch my order sit on the bar for a while before a server noticed. They definitely were not short staffed, but for all that staff they just stood around. Food it decent, but not all of it, the seafood was off.
Got scallop ceviche on tostada - they served 2 that were the size of small coasters. The tostada was soggy & none of it tasted good. Drinks were okay & servers were very friendly.
Great food, service and friendly staff.
Came for some tacos, stayed for the salsa. Came for a nice dinner with family and happened to catch their taco Tuesday deal, which made tacos and an appetizer a nicely affordable splurge. All the food was delicious (Id love a bucket of the salsas in the flight) and our servers were very accommodating, even with a slight communication error with our orders. Will definitely come again for more drinks and snacks. We sat on the patio and the tables were a bit too wobbly for me to be super comfortable but the overall atmosphere was great Vegetarian options: Their mushroom tacos are delicious. Doesnt at all taste like mushrooms shoehorned into a dish that didnt ask for them
Worst service Waited a full hour for our food. Walked up to the bar to get our drinks. Food
Best fish tacos!!! Nice curated cocktails, also! Love their patio!! Food : 5/5 | Service
Went for lunch, it was not crazy busy inside, 3 people on the patio, we waited 15 minutes for our first drinks, food took at least 1 hour, we had to go to the bar for more drinks and ask where our food was, when the server finally came she said it may be another 10 minute, but she couldnt guarantee it never once did the server come to check on us, this was the worst experience we ever had at a restaurant. We will definitely not go back.
Enjoyable mexican restaurant in the heart of Guelph. Staff is always friendly and the food is very good.
Well after all of the hype, we thought we would try La Reina, Not impressed with the food at l. We ordered take-out so we do understand that some of the freshness is lost. Five of us had dinner and three of us thought the food tasted like it had been sitting around since lunch time. It was dry and no flavour. For what it cost (which was absolutely ridiculous p) this food should have been much better than it was. Would not recommend and will not be back. Also the portions were so small, it looked like appetizer sizes.
Everything from appetizer (I had the ceviche), to the main (tacos & quesadillas), and the dessert (cake pops & churros) were so good. Had such a great experience the first time with my brothers and daughter that I had to bring my whole family here for Father s Day because they had to try it! The only thing we weren t keen on was the kids cheese quesadillas, we thought it would be the same price as the kids taco, prices aren t on the menu but I had asked about it the first time we were there. Didn t order it until the second time we were there and it was double the price of a kids taco which I think is more filling. But otherwise experience was great.
I went to eat here for the first time last week for supper. The food was excellent, but the atmosphere was loud and the service was painfully slow. I had to wait a while for a drink refill and I had to wait an extra 10 minutes to receive my bill so I could leave.
Tasty tacos and a good selection of craft beer. The service is very good.
Orderd the Beef Cheeks and got Fish tasting Cheeks. Was bad men. Seems like they heated them up in the fryer for the fish. My partner had the some other tacos which have been hard as rocks . Taste wad bad too. We didnt finish our dish. Drinks arrived after like 35min just a minute before we had our food. We wont come back. If we pay for good food then we dont want a compromise!!! Any Fast-food from 2hrs ago would have been better. The day went, not too busy and more then 12 staff and they dont even manage to get drinks out. Also the Bar style is ok , but blasting music at 5.30pm that you cant even talk to a person besides you is just a waste of time.
I really want to like this place but after my fifth visit last night I m calling it. If it takes 20 minutes for someone to come by and another 40 minutes for a drink to land on your table every single time it s just not worth it. Hopefully they can fix their service issues, it s a beautiful patio and a great location.
Very cute and modern Mexican spot in downtown Guelph. The margarita flight was the perfect way to sample their unique margarita flavours, and the brownie I got for dessert was delicious. Service was definitely lacking, but they were all very friendly.
Took a long time to get drinks ,food portions are small but overall excellent quality.
The food and drinks are always great whenever I ve gone. They have a really nice setup too with nice decor.
Just had the best enchiladas and pineapple margarita of my entire life!
Meal was luke warm and service slow.
Wanted to try the tacos here and will never go back! Service was terribly slow and the fish tacos were completely dried out, shrivelled, hard and crunchy. Not much bigger than a French fry. I ve never had a fish taco this bad. Needless to say we will never be back.
Okay experience but service took forever and felt like they were pressuring us to leave quickly. Food was great but overpriced
Best tiny tuna taco is probably one of the best appetizers I ve ever eaten! Simply delicious!
$20.79 including tip for 2 beef cheek tacos. Too expensive. Server was friendly though. Tried the beef cheek because it was a new menu item and I wanted to try something new, but it was pretty dry and didn t have much flavour.
The food was delicious but little pricy especially for the serving size. The margaritas were great, but again, not a large drink.
The food was delicious, well seasoned and made me sad cause I ate everything. I got the Birria tacos and it was great. We had croquettes to share.
Had the breakfast burrito and the fish tacos. Delicious on both counts. Our waitress, Liza, was everything a service staff person should be polite, friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and relaxed.
My sister and I enjoyed featured cocktails and a fabulous meal on the patio! Dietary restrictions: Great gluten-free options! Food : 5/5 |
Good service! Good food! Priced great! Their baha fish taco are
Margheritas were delicious! Service was fantastic. Everything was made from scratch and not rushed. The mushroom tacos and ceviche were very very yummy. Will definitely recommend to friends. Will be back! Thank you. Vegetarian options: Great options available
The reviews about poor service are true. I brought my wife here for our 12 year anniversary. The waitress seemed more attentive to others than us. We waited several times for drinks that we ordered to actually show up. The food also wasnt the greatest. We love mexican food and tacos. This place just wasnt it. Sorry, LA Reina, I thought I would give you a shot despite poor reviews, but I dont think well ever be returning. I spent over 250$ for 4 people. (Just in case you wanted an idea about price)
Chips, guac & chimichurri, birria tacos were all
Great food, great drinks! Maya was incredible, absolutely loved the atmosphere too. Would definitely return for classic margaritas
One of my favourite places to go. Multiple GLUTEN FREE options!!! Almost everything on the menu is safe. Its clearly labeled with whats safe and whats not for gluten free & the food is exceptional! Dietary restrictions: Absolutely amazing with dietary restrictions. They label on the menu whats gluten free and other restrictions. Theyre well versed in dietary needs and take it VERY seriously. I always feel safe eating here! Parking: Its always hard to find parking downtown. Especially when patio season starts. Accessible parking is available but super limited, and too often, its being used illegally by delivery drivers. If you cant walk far, are disabled or limited in movement, not the best place and parking is difficult. Wheelchair accessibility: Although you might be able to get in the front door with a wheelchair unfortunately the bathrooms in the restaurant are in the basement so its NOT accessible for those who are wheelchair dependent nor for anyone with mobility or vision issues.
It s okay..food is decent..staff walks around with tequila is vegan shirts, obviously not realizing that a horrifying amount of animals (bees) die to create agave..not to beat up on them..it s reasonable food..the owner is a bit of a dink, but that s okay.
My go to place for tacos. They serve one of the best tacos. Pollo and Baja fish are my favourite. Flavourful and perfectly balanced. They have range of drinks to choose from. It is little pricy but it is worth the price. They do have not many option for vegetarian or vegan. They never disappoint. The ambiance and vibe are perfect. I highly recommend to visit this restaurant. Great place for date and get together.
Had an excellent time at La Reina after a day on the Guelph Beer Bus! I would recommend the tacos and the chicken tinga nachos! Ill have to come back for some tequila another day when Im looking for a good time in downtown Guelph!
Great place to eat. Loved the vibe Vegetarian options: Mushroom tacos, enchiladas.. Food : 5/5 |
Guac Chips was our first order and we didn t feel like ordering anything else. Homemade guac is tastier. Drinks took a long time to arrive as their glasses were all used up by other tables. Following Cocktails we ordered Mezcal Margarita - was awesome. Hibiscus Mai Tai - was strong and liked by us. Where s the Passion - was something we didn t like and would never order again. Overall patio vibe was good!
We really enjoyed ourselves!
This is the worst service I have ever received in a restaurant. We arrived and were seated quickly as we had a reservation. Drinks and appetizers came in a timely manner. They brought one of 3 entrees and then nothing else, so 30 minutes later we asked another waitress as we were never checked on after the food arrived and they realized they had forgotten to request the other two meals from the kitchen, so we had to wait another 20 minutes for those to arrive. They did give use each a free drink to make up for it. I now just realized they have double charged us for one of the entrees. The food was good, but I would not recommend going to the actual restaurant unless you are prepared for terrible service and a long wait.
Amazing pineapple margaritas!!
Midafternoon on a Tuesday, ordered three pairs of tacos for two people, sitting on the patio. The servers disappeared for about a half hour. Asked for the bill; waited another 15 minutes to receive it and pay. We should have just walked out. Its a shame because the tacos were really very good, but we will not return.
Excellent Classic Lime Margaritas, great tacos and the best churros I ve ever had!
Jamie s service is amazing!
The atmosphere is amazing, very well done! The mural work, the día de muertos, Mexican revolution, wood skull etc the place is super nice. The staff is friendly and the margarita with Miguel was quite good. However, I had had ceviche many times in my life and I was not expecting this huge chunks and lacking other ingredients, so I can t recommend it. The tortilla soup was missing some flavour as well tbh, and the queso fundillo felt a little too microwaved for my personal taste.
yum yum
Im not one for reviews but I stumbled past the door and walked in. Order on a recommendation and chocked on the price for lunch $29. Never spent that before and was wondering what I got myself into. Was the lunch huge for $29 no. Was it enough sure was. Will I do it again. 100%. The quality of the food was outstanding. So fresh and the level of quality was better than anything I have eaten in a take-a-away or eating out. It just blew me away. I just felt I had something authentic for a change and not processed and I would pay extra for that !!
High prices, food thats just okay, a pretentious atmosphere, and a very unwelcoming boomer vibe. There are so many great places for food and drinks downtown, theres absolutely no reason to go back here. You really get the sense they dont care about their guests, the city, or neighborhood. A place like this doesnt belong in Guelph.
Overall I had a good experience at La Reina. The price of the food was slightly overpriced compared to the competition and the quality/taste didn t justify the price difference. We would ve loved to had a couple of the delicious drinks, but the service wasn t the greatest as over a 2 hour period we saw the server at most 3 times before bringing the bill. Once to bring the drinks/take our order, once to bring food and once for a refill. Overall the experience I expected, which was good at best.
Food has gone downhill a bit since our last visit. A very loud and vibrant spot- so good for groups, and nice decor. Service was disappointing and a few small things they need to work on. My wife s dish had a hair in it, which can happen - but they should have at least acknowledged it. These days, La Reina is average at best, disappointing since this was always our anniversary spot.
Great variety of Mexican food.
Awesome food, out of this world margaritas, pleasant & friendly servers, delightful decor and reasonable pricing. Great venue for lunch the day of my daughters wedding shower.
First time here. Went to lunch and what a great atmosphere. The seating is excellent, spacious, and comfortable. Food was so delicious and very reasonably priced. We got the lunch special (soup or salad, taco dish of your choice, and pico de gallo. The server was so friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. I will definitely be back!
The striploin taco is one of the best tacos I have ever put into my mouth! The tacos in Kensington market in Toronto are good but this is even better! The margaritas are well crafted and produces a symphony of flavours!
Decided to try this place out this past Saturday. The food was incredible and the margaritas were delicious. Atmosphere was nice, especially for a busy night. The service was some of the best I ve had in a while, our server Liza was super sociable and gave great suggestions. Highly recommend!
Had a delightful dining experience here! The nachos, queso fundido, and tacos were all top-notch and absolutely delicious. However, I wasnt as impressed with the breakfast burrito compared to the other items. While the appetizers were tasty, I did find the portion sizes a bit on the smaller side for the price. Nevertheless, the food was yummy! The aesthetic and vibe of the place are definitely worth mentioning loved the atmosphere! Overall, a great spot for some tasty bites and a good time.
Came for a sampler, will be returning for the full experience. To be continued... Part 2: Fantastic experience, did not disappoint for a special night out. Everything tasted great. Ceviche was really good, salsa flight was nice, tacos looked amazing, and taste just as good. Cocktails are awesome. Always appreciate the service here. Super!
Came in for a quick bit before the hockey game. No reservation but staff accommodated us quickly with seats at the bar.
Pretty good
Best mexican in Guelph. If you are ever in the neighborhood you have to try it. Better than any of the chain Mexican places
Super cool atmosphere with tons of really unique Mexican décor. Really great upbeat vibe. The staff were excellent and great to chat with and learn about their huge selection of different Tequilas and other cocktails. The Margaritas seem to be premade for their flights which is easier for the amount they serve but for me, Id prefer it made fresh each time! The food was good but Ive had better. I would absolutely go back!
Very nice restaurant food was fantastic got the birria tacos which was great and the nachos and guac were delicious with the chips! Went with a large work group and service was fantastic. The vibes of the place were great I especially loved the hot sauce bar!
La Reina is a very much welcome sit down Mexican restaurant. If you want burritos that are more gourmet than chains, and a place with a vibe to sit down in, then come here. The one downside is that the burritos are overpriced for what you get, there isnt as much value compared with a takeout burrito.
Service great! Tacos delicious! Chips were a little too salty for me
I am so disappointed in the service I received here the other night. Although the food is quite good, the service for take out was atrocious. I went in the main door and stood there for a good 5-10 minutes with not even an acknowledgment I was there. Having been ignored, I went to the takeout door and was told I had to wait for a manager to cash me out. This manager came into the kitchen, chatting up coworkers, laughing, and walking off. I waited for nearly 20 minutes before I could pay and get my food (now cold). As someone with quite a number of years in the service industry myself, this was the worst service Ive received in years. I may also add that they only had 3 tables in the restaurant, so being busy was not an excuse.
Good food. Music tad loud to carry a convo.
The food was excellent! Our waiter was attentive and the manager working was amazing!!!! The bartender also did a great job with our drinks! Looking forward to visiting again soon.
Always one of my favorite places to go downtown guelph :) Try the ceviche and mezcal margaritas Hahaha
La Reina Bursting with authentic Mexican flavors, a fiesta for the taste buds!
Love this place! Dined here for the first time tonight with a few friends, and this place hit the spot! Everything was delicious, the staff were exceptional, and the atmosphere was just fun! I tried the mushroom tacos, nachos, and key lime pie... all were amazing. Now, if I could just remember the name of the delicious beer I had - Mexi-something? I will definitely be returning here with the wife. Cheers! Vegetarian options: There were a few, as I said the mushroom tacos were delicious - and I believe they are vegan.
Good food!
I have recently made a few visits to La Reina to enjoy their food, their cocktails and the atmosphere!! I have decided I am going to work my way through the menu! The food is so enjoyable and flavourful and it is great to know that many of their items are made in house, so I don t mind paying a little more for freshly made and creative food. I can t get enough of the corn dip and home made tortillas! The margarita flight is super fun and the bartenders are full of information regarding the large selection of premium tequilas that are displayed around the restaurant. We have invited many guests to come and enjoy the fun and the servers have been engaging and delightful. The atmosphere is very cool and I haven t been disappointed yet! It is a little dark for my failing eyes but it is part of the charm;) I think it s great that they can their own cocktails for you to enjoy at home- love that spicy pineapple margarita!!! Until we eat again!! Cheers to the staff:)
Ordered a drink at lunch while pointing to the drink on the menu of what I wanted. I was charged nearly double the listed price of what I pointed to. When I asked the server, I was told that a drink with the exact same name was also listed on the back of the menu and he assumed that was the one I wanted. I was never told their were drinks of the same name nor given the option to choose. You know what you are doing La Reina. This is by design, not an accident. Stop taking advantage of your customers. One star. Updated response: Dear La Reina, I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to bring to your attention a small inconsistency I noticed in your menu. It appears that the Pineapple Express is listed twice. Understanding that menu creation is a detailed process, this might have been an oversight. I also noted your earlier explanation regarding the use of internationaly recognized alcaholic classic names like the lime classic margarita. However, this rationale seems not to apply to the Pineapple Express. I believe addressing this could help in providing clear and accurate information to your customers, enhancing their dining experience. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I appreciate your commitment to customer satisfaction and look forward to your response. Best regards
A little disapointed with staff ther. As i sat by myself on patio waiting for a relative to meet me, when she showed up, staff were staring and standing around.. did not take my order for 10mins. And then took half hour to get a drink. Not sure if they thought we were gonna dine and dash or if my relative ( disabled) was. Not a good place if you want a drink in under 1 hr... Wont go again.. And wont recommened to anyone with a disability. Felt very uncomfortable.
Another superb dinner! Great food, terrific summer vibe. Loved the tequila tower too!
My boyfriend and I stopped in here for dinner a few weeks ago. The food and drinks were expensive, and I was very disappointed with the quality of the tacos. The tacos were so bad I couldn t even get past a single bite. It was bland, the chicken was dry, and the cilantro was overpowering The service was chaotic, disorganized and the environment was far too loud. I was unimpressed . I am not the type to leave bad reviews, but this was one of the worst experiences I ve ever had. The only good part of the experience was the guacamole. If you re looking for a nice place, I would not recommend it.
Without a doubt, the atmosphere is the best thing about this place, happy music and attentive waiters. My partner and I ordered a tequila margarita with Mezcal, it was exquisite. The food leaves a lot to be desired, the tacos could definitely be bigger and less expensive. I would go back just for a drink, but I recommend eating somewhere else.
Popped in for brunch on the patio and the vibe here is fabulous. I had the chicken and churros and can guarantee I ll be coming back for the same dish because it was that damn good. They definitely let you take your time so if you are in a rush (which we weren t so it was fine) tell them and I m sure they would expedite service. Can t wait to come back again soon!
I know La Reina has been in Guelph for some time now but this past weekend was my wife and I first time dining there. We sat out on the patio overlooking Macdonnell St. It was such a nice day that I think everyone had the same idea as us and wanted to dine outside. Our reservation was for 7pm. Booking a time and table using their online booking through their WEB site was a breeze. I think this is one of the fastest restaurants for getting our food order out. I really appreciated the promptness but trust me, the quality of our order was spot on, delicious and we savoured every bite. I had the Pacifica Tuna bowl and my wife had the Chicken Tinga tacos. For refreshments we splurged and I tried the Flaming Moe and my wife had the Hibiscus Mi Tai. Yes, drinks were a little on the expensive side but well worth it. Service was amazing, always made sure our dinner evening was going well, our food was to our liking and helped make a suggestion as to which of there many Tequilas I should try. Thanks La Reina for a great night out and if you had anything to do with the great weather well, thanks for that also. Cheers and well definitely be back.
The more things change, the more they stay the same
The food took a very long time to come but it was worth the wait. Ill go back!
Nice spot for authentic tacos
This place is so cozy, warm and welcoming. The servers were so nice and the atmosphere was delightful. Had an awesome cup of coffee with a friend. Will try their food next time.
Tacos Al Pastor were good, but not great. Very very oily and not a lot of flavor. My wifes Quesadilla was apparently delicious though. Carne Asada got top marks from my daughter. Ordered Mexican Coke, but got Jarritos Cola instead... Tasty, but not what I was expecting. Churros were nicely cooked. Guac tasted like just mashed avocado and could have done with some lime, salt etc. but that is just personal taste ... chips were done very well. Pineapple Jalapeno salsa was amazing! Atmosphere was great inside, but a lot of flies buzzing around. Overall, it was a mixed experience meal ... Some of us really enjoyed the food, and others not so much. Nothing was truely bad though. I would definitely come back, but if/when I do, I will definitely be ordering something different. Vegetarian options: Several vegetarian and pescitarian options on the menu. Parking: Good luck!
Terrible service, waited for more than 15 nobody came to the table, not even to offer drinks
Great place for Mexican food. Definitely try the pollo tacos. And my wife swears by the pineapple express margarita
Awesome food and great service! Highly recommend the Carne Asada bowl!
Ive walked along this intersection maybe 20 times in the last few years, but never entered this restaurant. Someone said they had tacos, so we went. STUNNING. Venue is clean. Staff is fast and professional and friendly. One main waitress, one on training, three supporting players, all for a table of eleven. Tacos were excellent. We brought a collection of hot sauces which might have helped, but I was careful to sample each taco unsullied before spicing, and they were excellent. Then, dessert! Tres leches took me back to childhood, key lime was just excellent (not too much sugar). Will absolutely return.
What a nice place. Delicious food and drinks, nice comfortable seating, good music, and friendly staff! Will be going again!
Absolutely get the guacamole and chips! The best thing on the menu from what we tasted in our 2 visits. Great atmosphere and vibe with awesome service. I personally didn t care at all for the flavor of the coleslaw that comes on top of every taco - but that s an easy thing to omit! The burrito was tasty and the side salad to this dish was delicious! The nacho platter was really good as well. Edit to 3rd visit to add that The Birria tacos were delicious!! Very salty and could use twice the guacamole, but very good dish I would order again! Will absolutely return as we enjoyed the patio a lot.
Great elevated Mexican foods here.
Our service was a bit slow upon arrival, but it was so worth it. The food was delicious. We got the corn dip, an empanada, barbacoa tacos and churros. . Food
#margaritas
So fun! The margs are so yummy
Went out for an early dinner on Saturday for an anniversary. I had two beer and my wife had a cocktail and then a margarita flight. My wife ordered the mushroom tacos and I ordered the shrimp tacos. The mushroom tacos were very tasty and my shrimp tacos were decent. However, it looked like generic over cooked shrimp and two of the tacos were extremely hot while one didnt seem to have any kick at all. I definitely wouldnt have entertained expensive menu if it hadnt been for a special day. $24 for three shrimp tacos seems a bit outrageous. Ending our dinner, we opted for Keylime pie and some churros. The Keylime pie was very very similar to a Keylime cheesecake and was definitely not pie and the churros were not very well cooked Not sure if they were premade or frozen? The caramel sauce that came with it was amazing, but the chocolate sauce tasted like it had been burned. I think our bill was $167 with tip. (20%) Overall, decent food for very expensive prices with the quality being inconsistent.
fish tacos were great! enjoyed the 5 lb burrito AMAZING atmosphere!
Amazing! I ve been looking for a good Mexican place for a while. Found this gem in Guelph. Will be retuning with my hubby in tow. I had the lunch special and choose the fish tacos which were really good. Can t wait to try other items on the menu!
Heyden was a fantastic bartender! Made us a delicious spicy margarita
I would give this place a 5 stars, but unfortunately, this is unacceptable. Having a change table in the middle of the hallway, under the stairs, is very disappointed. This is 2023. Why do parents have to deal with this. As a DAD who changed my kids diaper there, I felt uncomfortable as people were coming down to the washrooms. Why do I have to expose my kid to potential pervs? Or why does a mom have to be exposed to potential comments from males regarding this kids. Do better Reina. Learn to adapt.
Great tacos
Only had the churros for take out. Took about 10 mins for them to make it, came out piping hot and fresh with chocolate and caramel dipping sauces, huge portions for 6 sticks at $7, but was way too oily.
Ordered two orders of taco for takeout.. First photo is what I received for take out tonight. So so small considering they are $15.. and not like the description or like I have received dining in the restaurant (second photo). Quite disappointed with my order tonight, also took me a while to get in contact with the restaurant. Saving grace was the corn dip tho. Hoping it was just an off night and not a decline in service used to love coming here :(
Very tasty food and unique options. We highly recommend La Reina
great mexican food amazing margaritas Food
Amazing food and drinks!!! Loved this place and cant wait to go back.
Very authentic place, beautifully decorated in Mexican style. Food is fantastic. Loved fish tacos!!! Margaritas are must to try as well! Food : 5/5
Very nice vibe. The art on the walls etc was very cool. Dinner and drinks were very good. My understanding is they are newer. The staff was very friendly. I ll return next time I m in the area.
The ambiance is very nice and I liked the Mexican feel to it. The server was very attentive and kept a smile through the service. Food was very good. The fire-roasted corn was amazing (ask for extra squeeze of lime). The Baha Fish was very good, though it could be better and the fish was a bit dry from inside ! Margaritas are some of the best I had in quite sometime. Overall it s very good place that I would recommend and I will go again when am in town.
There s 3 things that are really hard to mess up, eggs, burgers and Mexican food. This place took the prize with one of the worst cuts of steak I ve ever been served in my life. The service, despite the place being empty at lunch, was slow , inattentive and generally indifferent to the fact I was breathing in the restaurant . 0/10 would not recommend .
Every time I eat here the recipe has changed, I just want the delicious baja fish taco I had when I first found this place. I have ordered take out 3 times since and every time they are awful and not what I wanted. I call to talk to them about it and they hang up on me. Poor service. They don t even put Baja sauce on the taco anymore, it is just mayo and cabbage, like no. I will not be eating here anymore.
Absolutely the WORST service experience of my life. I had to fetch our server twice for food order and they completely failed to order one entree for my dining party. So disappointed. The atmosphere and food were decent but completely overshadowed by the terrible service
Went here for dinner last week and absolutely loved the food! Had a great time
The service was a little slow due to understaffing, but everyone was incredibly friendly. The carnitas tacos were pretty flavourless, though it didnt seem like the pork itself was seasoned at all. Parking: Its downtown Guelph, so the parking situation is hit or miss. Street parking exists but is hard to come by, but the new-ish parking structure by city hall is a very short walk away. Kid-friendliness: If your kids are picky eaters, theres probably not much on the menu for them.
best Mexican food in guelph hands down! Nice place and lots of space for seating Good selection of Mexican food and drinks, however service is a bit slow when busy
My friend and I love it here. We come all the time:) The baja fish tacos are amazing, along with the margarita flights! The service is phenomenal and the servers are wonderful!
Came in last night and had a great experience! Food was awesome and our server Mya was great and very attentive! They also have a deal on their take home margaritas if you dine in which we thought was fun. Will definitely be back.
Food was good, but size of tacos for the price was steep. We ordered 3 seperate meals, all premium tacos. Our 3 tacos were tiny on each plate. Pollo tacos were a lot fuller than others. If you want to charge that much, a side should be added.
Had the classic taco lunch special with a salad. Tacos were delicious.
I recently dined at La Reina, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. From the moment I walked in, it was clear that this upscale establishment was not living up to its reputation. Lets start with the prices. I dont mind paying a premium for an exceptional dining experience, but the prices at La Reina were undeniably high, and they certainly didnt match the overall quality of the meal. The portions, on the other hand, were shockingly small and devoid of flavour. I expected a bit more value for the cost, but the amount of food served was incredibly underwhelming. It was almost as if they were trying to pass off appetizer-sized portions as full meals. The service was a major letdown. The waitresses appeared disinterested and argued with me saying the menu prices were incorrect, making me pay more than advertised. At one point, I grew tired of watching the drinks I had ordered just sitting on the bar while my waitress engaged in a prolonged conversation with a colleague. Frustrated, I took matters into my own hands and retrieved my drinks myself. As a Mexican, I was particularly disappointed with the quality of the food. The tacos I ordered were nothing short of a disgrace. I couldnt bring myself to take more than one bite of each taco. The flavors were bland, and it felt like a far cry from Mexican cuisine I had hoped for. What saddened me the most was that I had eagerly anticipated dining at La Reina and had even recommended it to a friend who joined me that evening. To say that I felt embarrassed for hyping up this place would be an understatement. It was a disappointing experience from start to finish, and I left with a sense of regret and unmet expectations. I certainly wont be returning to La Reina, and I cant in good conscience recommend it to others looking for a satisfying dining experience, especially if they have a passion for good food.
really enjoyed this place! The guac and homemade salsa is defs what won me over. Service was great as well!
Small portions. Not much appeal in the appearance of the food. Pricey for what you get. I did the Al Pastor. It was 3 tiny mushy tortillas with a tablespoon of meat on each and a dab of avocado sauce...thats it....$22. We wont go back. Food
The place has a great atmosphere, and the food is good, the tacos al pastor could have used more seasoning but they meat was super soft and they were generously served. They have some good vegetarian options. Shoutout to the girl that took care of us, she was very nice and funny. Vegetarian options: Mushroom bowl
The tacos are banging; every time Ive come here it hitt the spot. Atmosphere is upscale casual, and the prices reflect. Its reasonable to come once or twice a season. Could definitely have a date here, or study low-key. The nights arent on a Tuesday night, but then again, where is ? Would recommend as a spot in Guelph. Food thought, stick to tacos or basics. You take risks when you stray away from the norm. ((Looking at you soup))
Unfortunately we had a very unpleasant experience with an unfriendly hostess. We arrived at the time of our reservation on Friday night at 6:3. Hostess was visibly upset while taking us to our table, wanted to seat us at a high table but I requested a regular table if possible and she rolled her eyes at us for some reason? Got to our regular table, we were waiting for a waitress/waiter for 20 minutes then we gave up and decided to leave (3 tables who came after us were greeted by waitress and served drinks) We did let the manager know of our experience and she apologized profusely before we left
Soup was not good. Literally just broth with an avocado cut into and soggy chips. Tacos good. Service good!
The service was unbelievably slow! We had reservations for our party and yet it still took amount an hour to get drinks and an hour and a half before appetizers were served. Dinner and 2 drinks took over 3 hours. The guacamole and chips was very good but even the non spicy tacos were spicy and made my lips tingle. The margarita flight was great but the ones offered were not on the menu and we werent sure if the samples offered could be ordered as stand alones. Im not sure if I would go back with a smaller group but I know I wouldnt recommend it for a larger group unless you dont mind waiting.
While seated at the bar, I observed a server mistakenly deliver the wrong drink to a customer. Upon realizing the error, the server returned the drink to the bar. However, instead of discarding it, the bartender transferred the beverage into a new glass to be served again. If this is what they are doing out in front of customers, I cannot imagine the health violations occurring in the back.
Pretty decent spot, stopped in for a quick bite. Spicy Pineapple Margarita was refreshing and tropical, I think it had Passion Fruit in it as well. Loved it! Fish Tacos were pretty good, fresh tasting and easy to inhale (which I did). I would recommend this if coming here. It is filling but without that overly full feeling. Tortilla Chips were really good and we ll seasons! They were also nice and thick. Salmon Ceviche was decent, the marinade was very vibrant and delicious, but there was a slight fishiness that I did didn t love.
I tried calling the restaurant three times to place a take out order with no answer. So I went in to place my order in the restaurant, and they directed me to the back door to order take out. Unfortunately the food has gone way downhill, the $25 burrito was brutal, and the nachos were awful too. The only positive were the fish tacos. They need to fix the food, and maybe they ll pick back up.
