State & Main in Guelph

Great night out with our extended family for a Christmas get together that we couldnt do at our house this year. They took care of us even though we were loud and boisterous. But we had a great time and great food. Very grateful for State and Maine for the great hospitality.

Amazing food.

Delicious lunch spot. Baja fish tacos with fries & dill dip were super great. Mains are sizeable; you don t need an appetizer. We got dragon lettuce wrap appetizers and they were good (huge). Had to ask for more lettuce to match the ratio of the filling, but staff were friendly and understood the request! Oddly busy at lunch. But nice chatty vibe. They have an extensive steak menu. Daily drink specials. Bowls, salads, diverse mains, etc. something for everyone. Vegetarian options: Several

Awesome place to dine!!

I enjoy going to State & Main, its the sweet spot of fancy and fun. Yesterday I ordered the Bison Burger (do not order it), it was a hockey puck on a bun. Staff were excellent, but the burger was about as bad as it gets.

Best Brussel Sprouts in town along with their jalapeños Mac and cheese even better if you grab it in happy hour :)

Kelly and the team are fantastic and deliver the best customer experience and service around. State & Main has great food, awesome drinks and a great atmosphere. Service was good, food was good for the price, and the place is nice with many screens. Just frustrating for a sports bar that doesnt broadcast Leafs x Canadiens, and instead has sports from another country playing on all the screens. Also not nice to have 18% as the lowest tip option.

This is one of my go to places. The service is always super amazing Kelly is our absolutely favourite, she is go great with our kids and always makes us feel so special by remember our drink orders, and makes everyone always feel super welcomed! Plus the food is always very consistent and the environment is great for all social settings!

We ve been regulars here, visiting almost every week, but unfortunately, we ll be looking for somewhere else to go. Customer beware: when we paid for our meals, we were asked to enter gratuity twice (we entered a gratuity, it provided us the total with gratuity, then asked for a gratuity again on the new total). They ve had a new payment system for the past few weeks, which has been pretty annoying, but this was the first time we were prompted to add gratuity twice. When we mentioned it to our waitress, she casually said it happens sometimes but why weren t we told before we paid?

Definitely a favorite restaurant! Tried this location when I visited Guelph last year and have been back multiple times, including this past week for lunch. The food is always delicious. The pictures attached are the fish and chips and the pistachio crusted salmon with asparagus and mash potatos. Both were generous portions and were delicious! The wait time for food wasnt long and the staff were also really friendly! Will definitely visit again.

Last night I went to State and Maine and was served by Abbie. She was amazing! Abbie gave great suggestions when I was asking about the menu (fish tacos were so good!) and overall we had a great experience with her as our server. I highly recommend going to State and Maine!

We had a very enjoyable dinner recently with friends. What we appreciated was the care taken to ensure a garlic-free meal. The server Cal was very pleasant. We liked being able to eat a a regular-height table rather than the cafe tables which we find uncomfortable. Dietary restrictions: We appreciated the fact that the garlic allergy remained on our profile. As a result, they were able to ahead of time speak to us about options on the menu.

State and Main is one of my favourite go to restaurants! I am obsessed with the Beef Dip and the Fish Tacos. I came tonight to celebrate my fiancé s birthday and Dakota, the bartender, took amazing care of us. He was friendly, fast, and attentive. This was my fiancé s first time and we will be back as soon as we can. Best Old Fashioned I ve had in a while, thanks so much for taking care of us Dakota!

Good apps and mains. Hard to believe that in 2024 still no vegan options.

The steak was good. It was cooked well and seasoned well. The Buffalo wings were okay, they should have had more sauce. The Margherita flatbread was horrendous, it was very dry, and the sauce was not good. The Brussel sprouts with bacon were okay, they were not as good as I hoped.

Website says Dog Friendly Patio but not Friendly at all. We were turned away after making it to restaurant thru 401 construction. I asked for special accommodation and was declined.

Dined at State and Main on June 29 for lunch. There were 9 of us celebrating my grandson s graduation from grade 8. Time there was 1 pm. Fantastic food and service. Can t remember our servers name but she was excellent.

We mostly enjoyed our time here. The service wasnt great, and no one checked on us after our food was delivered. Service has definitely changed over the years, I remember when you served a steak, you waited to see if it was cooked as desired before never checking in again.

Not my first visit - but it was my sisters. Great food, excellent service and attention to detail (thank you Kelly!); always a good visit. Vegetarian options: There are options without meat and many of the dishes that have meat can be substituted for a plant based alternative. Parking: At lunchtime there is plenty of room; in the evenings it can be a little more difficult due to the proximity of the movie theatre. Even on those occasions, parking is not impossible as long as youre ok to walk a couple of minutes.

New 2024: we came again and had a wonderful time. I loved the grilled steak salad. Shout out to Sarah, she went out of her way and provided superb service! My friends and I had a wonderful time here! We particularly enjoy their fries and dill dip. We also had a great cobb salad and club sandwich. If you come here, ask for Sarah because she is a wonderful waitress!!! All good all around

My husband and I had a really lovely meal. We love to come to State and Main to celebrate any and every occasion. We had a really pleasant experience being served by Alexa.

Went Friday, May 24. There was a group of about 16 boys with their parents. Manager did not make much of an effort to get the boys to be less noisy. Parents did not make any effort. Left early because of the noise. Groups this large should not be booked if they cannot be controlled or put them in the corner.

Came here for a friends 26th birthday, and our server Kelly was an absolute hoot. She was super kind, professional, friendly and the food was awesome and that made our experience even better, the Cherry on top. She made us feel at home and we re super grateful for it. Had a great meal with a friend who had never dined here before. We were pleased with outstanding service by Jade who accommodated our request to share appetizers, salad and 2 mains! She even took care to have the Cobb salad divided into two bowls. No problem changing the dressing. It s always a good experience at S & M. Good portion sizes, tasty food and fair prices. I ll be back! I really liked the Spanako flatbread. Dietary restrictions: My friend has a serious shellfish allergy & Jade made a note of this, and checked with kitchen staff.

We were in town visiting friends and decided to try State & Main after reading some uninspired reviews from similar restaurants in the area. We had a large party and the only seats available were the high tables near the bar which turned out to be ok. The dinner menu was compact, but had a wide array of choices. Serving sizes were smaller than I had hoped, but pretty standard for restaurants nowadays. We ordered a variety of dishes and much sharing was done, and everything looked and more importantly tasted good. Our waitress was bubbly and very helpful to our needs and interacted amazingly with the kids in our party. All in all it was an excellent dinner. Dietary restrictions: We had a vegetarian and a gluten allergy in our party and a separate menu was provided, with the proviso that they would do their best to accommodate. Kid-friendliness: There was a separate kids menu with a variety of options, the serving size for the kids items was very generous, and doggy bags were provided to bring the leftovers home. Dessert was limited for the kids, but ice cream is always appreciated.

As always, we had a great time here last week. My friends and I decided last minute to meet up for dinner and drinks and we walked in and got a table and the food and service was great. After dinner, we hung out a bit longer to catch up and no one tried to get us to leave. The food is delicious and fresh and the atmosphere is welcoming. We are looking forward to sitting on the patio the next time.

Very nice place just outside the center of Guelph, excellent cuisine and prices below the Canadian average. The staff are young but very knowledgeable and kind, I recommend the Empire State steak, excellent marination, very very good.

This place was such a disappointment. My wife and I went there yesterday for dinner. We sat at the bar and after the initial greeting, were basically ignored for the entire visit. If you needed anything it was 10 mins of trying to get any servers attention. The placee was completely mismanaged with clearly nobody assigned to the bar area, so you were just fighting for anyone of the servers to acknowledge you exist when they came behind the bar. The food was medicore at best but the service was atrocious. After our main we each wanted another drink but after the 10-15mins wait we just decided to get the bill. All servers were busy out on the floor with tables and the person who looked to be in charge mainly just stood out front but did no actual work. Really disappointed but glad I know not to waste.money here again.

I went in for a meal tonight with some friends, and the food and the wait staff did not disappoint. The wings came out hot and were delicious and the Caesars were the perfect blend of spicy and tasty. Our server Darian was polite, funny, and knowledgeable. She knew when to be around our table, and when to allow us to enjoy our meal and conversation. I would highly recommend this restaurant, and when you are in, ask for Darian, she will not disappoint.

We love it here and service matches the quality of the food. The menu isn t as extensive as others in this market but there is something for everyone.

The food at this restaurant are not worth the price. Our server seemed annoyed with our presence and overall very judgy. It also seemed like the manager was constantly watching the servers and yelling at them. I would never want to work here. They all seem like they hate their lives. Please take your money elsewhere. The Keg is way better anyways.

My friend and I both ordered the chicken tender. I had really enjoyed them the last we were there.But this time both orders were over cooked, over-salted and the chicken was dry. The waitress offered to have new dishes cooked up, but we declined. My friend was given a cake. Should we really have had to pay for the chicken tenders? What is your policy when food is not edible? My friend now tried the cake and it was so dry it was also inedible.

Mushroom/beef burger with cheese and glorious bacon served hot and nicely done. Safely live far away so cant go every day.

We had a great anniversary dinner tonight. Our server Jacqueline was very polite and attentive. The pretzel bites and Calamari appetizers were amazing! My only issue was that we were sitting in the bar area and it was hard to speak with each other. Well definitely go again.

This restaurant is fine. Last time I rated it 5, this time 4 averages at 4.5. One thing that would be nice is if there were more alcohol free beer options. The Mexican one is ok, but there are better options. Food : 4/5

We went in with kids and where treated like second class citizens... the guy at the front was so rude saying they could not move tables and then we waited for 20 minutes for menus and where ingored cause we had kids with us we got up and left went to the keg way more accommodating and way better service if you have kids AVOID THIS PLACE

I order takeout from this location, and it always slaps!!! Service is great and I recommend the margarita flat bread, it is always tasty and the cream cheese on top is perfect and has the perfect crunchy texture on the outside but soft once you bite in. Definitely recommend

Went here for Sunday lunch and it was the best experience! The food and drinks were amazing and served hot. Would definitely recommend the truffle Parmesan fries on their happy hour menu. Came in to eat tonight with my boyfriend before a movie, was seated right away and had the soup dumplings and royal Bangkok bowl, food was absolutely delicious! Darian was our server tonight, she was excellent, provided great recommendations and made us laugh! Definitely will return!!!

This was our 1st time at the Guelph location of State and Main previously being numerous times in Kitchener. I had the lettuce wraps which is my favorite at every restaurant that serves them. These were without a doubt the best ones I have ever tasted! The portions were huge with me bringing enough home for leftovers tomorrow. My husband had the fish and chips which were also a generous serving. Our server was Lindsay and she was excellent, efficient and very knowledgeable with a pleasant smile . Overall a great experience and we definitely will be back!

We had a great girls night out at State & Main. They went above and beyond to make sure one of our party s meals was perfect for her when it was originally very spicy. They were very generous with birthday desserts and it really made us feel special that cake was soooo good. I had dinner last night and was very impressed that the staff at the front were so accommodating when I asked not to sit at a tall table. They quickly arranged a small booth for us even though it was super busy. Fern was our server. She was so lovely! Very attentive, friendly, and did a great job taking care of us and checking in to ensure we were good. Props to the kitchen staff too! The food was so yummy! Super impressed. This has now become one of my favourite restaurants in Guelph.

We were on our belated Valentine s Day date night and we booked a reservation online. We were seated right away and our server arrived immediately to take our drinks order. Our server was Fern and she went out of her way to get a mug with handles for me to drink my soup (I have not been able to open my mouth fully since a brain surgery operation) and to look for heavier cream for my husband s coffee. Fern was polite, prompt, informative and attentive. Food was delicious. We had the Empire Steak and Pistachio salmon cooked to perfection! Thank you chef. Thanks so much to Fern. We will be back there again and recommend it to others. Vegetarian options: We didn t require any of these but were made aware upon arrival that they offer vegetarian and gluten free menus.

Food was very good. My steak was very slightly overdone. My wife loved the bacon tomato soup and the salmon. Our server, Fern, was excellent. Friendly, attentive and prompt. Genuine, which is a bonus for this customer. The Coffee IMO was excellent. Another bonus for me. Apparently a little to strong for some palates. Thankyou

This place used to be a favorite but the last time we went they had no record of our reservation even though I showed them the 5 texts confirming it. They sat us anyway but no compensation. Time before we sat at the bar. The guy beside us ordered after we did. He got his steak, ate it, got desert, ate it, paid and left before we saw any food. No compensation. Think management has deteriorated a lot. Everybody makes mistakes but now it seems like we are dismissed by management.

Met a friend after work for dinner have been a number of times before with family. Better than other chains; good portion sizes; nice atmosphere with some TVs for sports but not a sports bar or the focus of the place. I had fish tacos and they were good.

Was made to feel very unwelcome in this establishment. The service was slow and unfriendly.

Took my mom and dad here for dinner on Saturday night. We started off with the pretzel bites and each of us had entrees. Our server Olivia was so kind and bubbly. My mom had a dozen questions for her regarding the menu and she answered them all with enthusiasm and without any hesitation. She made some great food and drink recommendations for us and we all enjoyed our meals and experience very much. We will definitely be back!

We went for dinner on New Year s Eve and had the couples special. We enjoyed an appetizer with salad and a delicious steak! Everything tasted great and the service was excellent! We split the dessert also included with the special. I would definitely recommend, however it wasn t intimate if you re looking for that.

this was my second or third time here in a few years, atmosphere and service is good but food quality and taste is lacking while the prices are getting quite steep. Drinks are expensive, I had the French dip and the bun was a bit stale and looked as though it was out of the freezer, there wasnt much meat and the fries were salty but not hot and crisp, definately not fresh cut from real potatoes but likely bagged and frozen and not worth $20+. I did enjoy the salad which had real bacon and the Mocha ice cream pie for dessert was wonderful. Maybe this is just a spot to come for dessert after having a roast beef sandwich at home! Its a bit sad that there are fewer and fewer restaurants with real chefs and its becoming more of a heat and eat scenario where someone else does the dishes. The customer service team did reach out with apologies and an opportunity to try again in hopes of a better experience so we will. For me when management want to improve and make the effort that does say a lot and perhaps why some restaurants do last 10 yrs or more and others change names and disappear every few years Dietary restrictions: they do offer gluten free options.

Food is generally good / predictable. Usual over priced wine by the glass. Fries were worthy of using in place of road salt and when asked gor replacement was told would be 10 min. Limited desert menu, two of 3 contained nuts.

Olivia was the best waitress ever. Shes so unbelievably sweet and goes above and beyond to give you the best service possible. She checked on us and gave us extra chips. Food is great and the atmosphere is so cozy. My friends and I had a great time. Would definitely go again!

I highly recommend the state and main, Guelph location ! The restaurant is very well kept and you feel welcome as soon as you walk in the door. I went with 3 friends on a busy night and the service was amazing. Our waitress Olivia was so attentive & very nice.

I had dinner with a friend on Saturday evening on the patio and the food and atmosphere was Great but I have to say Olivia our server was absolutely Phenomenal and made our dining experience so much better. She gets 10+ stars! Food

Over the weekend, my family and I dined at State and Main, Guelph. I chose the Cobb salad paired with the house white wine, which impressed me greatly. The standout, however, was Kasey, our server, who exuded charm and courtesy, going above and beyond to ensure our comfort. While the music was a tad loud for my liking, Kaseys exceptional service more than compensated for it. I look forward to returning once more.

Calamari was delicious, love how they add crispy fried onions and peppers to it. Burgers are great. Service was fast and friendly

Terrible service by our server Fern. We came in Saturday afternoon for lunch and ordered 2 tuna poke bowls which came to us surprisingly fast. The food had decent taste but our server didnt even bother to refill our drinks and water glasses. We saw her talking to a coworker for all our time there and she did even once check on us. One guy did come to us asking about how we liked everything and we told him about the service thankfully he got us water and refilled our drinks. He told us he would talk to his manager about this and this was an isolated incident.

Just went to the State & Main for date night. I had the 9 ounce steak cooked perfectly, my wife had the pacific rim bowl she loved it. Awesome food, great service. Would highly recommend Thank you

Looked at menu. Ordered a Grilled Chicken Club and received a chicken burger with half cooked bacon. Told it is the way they serve it. Not impressed Food : 1/5

Pretty good. A bit skimpy on the fries and bison burger was pretty plain but the kids mac and cheese was great! Kids meals seemed larger portions than the adult!? Pad Thai type bowl was also spicy and good! Too bad kids meals dont include drinks.

Had the Asian Noodle Bowl which was outstanding!! The server was so cheerful, it made the experience extra special.. recommended for sure!!

Came in on Tuesday for dinner with some friends and our server Fern was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant was busy and the vibes were good. Had the bangkok bowl and it was amazing. Will definitely be back!

Service was good but slow, very cold inside I wanted to leave my jacket on!! This was my first time coming here and the only thing I was interested in was the cob salad and unfortunately I didnt enjoy I didnt even finish it, the cucumber was cut long and didnt taste clean, the spinach greens were majority of the bowl and very little cheese and egg, and I had to pick all the tomato out as they werent good anymore. Overall I was kinda disappointed with the food. The only good food was the bruschetta flat bread! My drink was really good I got the sunshine one with mango and peach I believe!!

We have lived in the area for almost 30 years and went to State & Main for the very first time tonight. The food was excellent and exceeded expectations. We both had pasta dishes which were very tasty.The staff were friendly and helpful. Only minor complaint was that it was quite noisy.

My family had a great dinner here! Staff were friendly and accommodating, it didnt take long to get our food, and the food was great! The restaurant was clean, the staff were wonderful with our kids, and the atmosphere was really nice.

The food and drinks are solid and reasonably priced, but the best part is the service. Dani was our server and she was seriously wonderful. She was attentive but not pushy, and we had some great chats while she helped us pick what we wanted. Dani was warm, quick, and really accommodating. For the service alone, I d highly recommend having a drink or a snack before your next movie.

I love the food here. Its not super expensive, but the quality is really good.

I pop into this State and Main location once and awhile for lunch for the Spicy Tuna Bowl and the service is always top notch. The food is consistently wonderful and the atmosphere keeps bringing me back. Wait staff and management are wonderful at this location. Also highly recommend for small work gatherings. Have never had a below 5 star experience. Love this restaurant gem in south of Guelph!

Love this place. Great patio. The servers are all very friendly and kitchen is timely with their food orders. Some different food choices makes it interesting! We did happy hour this time for birthday get together it s usually pretty busy and noisy, but we managed to hear each other . Thx for the complimentary birthday cake!! Delish!!!!
