Casual Independent Neighbourhood Eatery..... Pastas & Burgers, Great Steaks. Wonderful hospitality and fair prices. Great wines and cocktails. Variety of seating areas and great spaces for larger tables and groups.
I recently celebrated my birthday at this restaurant, and it was an amazing experience. The service was exceptional, with staff going above and beyond to make my day special. They even surprised me with a lovely complimentary dessert. Highly recommend!
The atmosphere was warm and comfortable. The service was good. The food was delicious.
Went for my sisters birthday and was super happy with the experience. Everything was absolutely delicious, service was friendly and overall was a great night. Would highly recommend and will definitely be going back!
Awesome food and service. Came with some friends and our table had the burger, sirloin steak, the mussel clam shrimp calamari linguine and chocolate lava cake - all excellent. The lava cake was just wow - served hot with ice cream. Will definitely come back for some more!
Food is very good but expensive. Dessert is below my expectation. Deco is very nice. Different sections have different topics and styles. Service needs to improve a lot. I came in a weekend but not busy. I hardly saw my server served.
Our experience started off with some drinks as we decided to go with the lemonade cocktail. It was tiny and didn’t offer the taste that I was expecting. Moving on to the burger I also expecting more as you have to pay 2 dollars for every additional topping. It comes pretty plain. The pork dish however was really flavourful and juicy. I also appreciated the fact that all the desserts are made in house giving you that freshness.
Went for dinner yesterday and had a wonderful experience. From the moment you walk in you smell chocolate! Loved the atmosphere as well. We got a goat cheese appetizer, a burger with add ons and side, plus a handmade pasta dish. Great price. Great food. Great staff. UPDATE: they are under new ownership now and i have had the opportunity to meet. He was very kind and helpful in aiding my companies decision to go with them for our holiday party. I have attached some photos of the foods we were able to sample. Delicious all around, looking forward to trying the new menu.
Easy to reserve. our server was very caring and polite. Ambience is so calm and peaceful. The food portion is hefty and premium quality! Mushroom ravioli was super creamy and flavourful… Chocolate lava cake would just melt away in mouth. Amazing experience!
Not sure what these bad reviews are about, it sounds more like racism and not understanding Indian culture. Our server had broken English, however her heart was in the right place. Drinks came quick. Portions were huge and hot. Pricing. Very reasonable. $110 for two large meals and three drinks, 7 mins from home. What more do you want? I am not affiliated with this family, just writing an honest review. People leaving a 1 star need to give their head a shake.
Food was excellent! Danke!
Fantastic service and food! I would definitely be back for date night here again.
Absolutely delicious and quiet! Would highly recommend.
If you went to the York Road Kitchen before the fire and come again expecting the same thing, you will be severely disappointed. New owners have sunk any identity and character that existed before into the ground. Weird, non-matching decor, boring music, and canned food. Chocolate still remains in their name but literally nothing has chocolate on it (I didn t stay for dessert.) The seafood platter was a plate of randomly chosen pieces of fish (with one single coconut shrimp) half cooked and battered blindly. The bruschetta we ordered was not even close to the picture in the menu. I got the burger which was serviceable but any pasta dish is cooked into goop and covered in reheated sauce. If I were the old owners, I d sue for defamation. For your sake and your stomach s, stay far away.
Stay away. Dont waste your money. The food was awful and nothing was as described on the menu. The bread for the bruschetta tasted freezer burnt. I ordered the pasta special which was listed as baked penne in mushroom bolognese cream. I was asked if I wanted to add chicken to it which I declined. What I got was a baked penne that was black in areas. It was penne pasta in a tomato and ground meat sauce with 4 or 5 sliced canned mushrooms in it ans no sign of cream anywhere and overall it tasted old. My husband had a seafood pasta and has been feeling off since after dinner. To add to it we waited over 20 minutes to get the bill after asking for it. We walked out and turned to each other and said we were never going back. I have no idea how they have a 4.4 rating on Google. If I could give it less than 1 I would.
We enjoyed dinner for two - the atmosphere was relaxing and the food was great...delicious meatloaf and my friend had a lovely pasta dish. The service was very thoughtful and warm. Will definitely return. Food
Interesting menu. Comfortable surroundings. Pleasant.
Delicious meal and wonderful atmosphere, overall a great dinning experience.
Rarely do I review a restaurant where I was embarrassed after dining there. The rustic exterior and simple menu suggests a hidden gem, but what they were really hiding was the value for money. Their appetisers were okay, calamari and fries cooked well, but the mains are a different story. The lamb had a bitter aftertaste, possibly from a preservative and little flavour in the over-seasoned meat likely due to being frozen. The microwaved, Chef Boyardee sauced spaghetti... insulted Italian ancestors so far back I had to look up how to say mi dispiace (Im sorry in Italian).
We wanted to try this place the many times we have driven past and of course the great reviews which I understand were under previous ownership. Disappointed was an understatement. Our server, while pleasant, was clearly out of her depth and struggled to understand our orders. While the calamari appetizer was ok the mains were terrible at best. Incinerated frozen burger, salmon (maybe salmon) served with some kind of Indian vegetable side, schnitzel which was very over fried and so thin it curled up on the edges served with a very wilted salad. This was not a cheap meal. I think that the word has got out as there were only 3 tables covered at 7pm on a Saturday night. We love to try new restaurants, (new to us) and are willing to pay these kind of prices for quality, BUT, everything was substandard and they are completely out of their depth.
York Rd. Kitchen did a fantastic job at managing our 18-person party on a Saturday night. Everything came out quickly and was delicious. Everyone s food was hot and tasty, the drinks were great and they even did a special dessert for my mom s 65th birthday. Would definitely recommend! Thank you so much for accommodating us!!!
Amazing food, amazing service!!
Great food. Large portions reasonable prices
I feel like this restaurant is experiencing an identity crisis. Although it seems like it is trying to be fine dining, it doesnt really seem like a fine dining restaurant. We found the food to be quite good, and the server was friendly...so thats the positive. The price points of the food was a bit high, I thought, for what was served. The drink prices were also quite high, looking at $10-12 for a pint of beer. The atmosphere of the restaurant needs improvement. There were splatters on the wall by our booth, many of the bankettes had upholstery that was falling off, and a lot of the furniture seems scratched up pretty bad. Also noticed was that a number of decorations had sort of been ripped off the wall and you could see the remnants. The menu boards were quite a mess, with items being crossed out and then written over top multiple times. On the special of the day card on the table and on the menu, there are multiple grammar and formatting issues that just sort of took away from a high-end dining experience. I know these arent a big deal, but when youre paying fine dining prices, the hope is that a simple things like this can be fixed. Overall, I would say that this restaurants best days are behind it, from what Ive heard. The food was still good, and service was friendly. So its absolutely not the worst place to go, but just dont expect fine dining.
Awesome food , excellent service , amazing ambience.
Excellent service, good menu selection, very reasonable price point. The best meal I have had out in some time. The food was hot and nicely presented. The staff was friendly and attentive. I will certainly return and hope to have dessert next time!
Always drove by the restaurant and finally went there tonight for date night with my husband. Great idea cause the food, drinks and service was amazing! We got the calamari and Caesar salad to start, never a mistake! Also had the chocolate martini, delicious! We were conflicted on choosing the steak or the lamb chops but lucky for us they had a daily special platter that came with steak, lamb chops and shrimp, so it worked out perfectly! Portion sizes and quality was great! Service was absolutely lovely! Greeted with smiles and care, and their energy was very positive, which we love seeing and experiencing! Definitely will come back to try more dishes.
Very good Caesar salad here. Delicious desserts too. The staff was friendly and attentive. Food
Did this place change ownership? This used to be my favourite restaurant with my go to meal being the meatloaf. After ordering last night, sadly it will be my last. It s clear the ingredient quality has gone way down. The potatoes, which used to be thick and creamy were watery instant potatoes, I could have drank them with a straw. The asparagus was cooked within an inch of its life, so floppy I had to wind it on my fork like spaghetti. The meatloaf was dry and tough. The whole meal tasted like a frozen tv dinner. Unfortunately they ve also removed the triple chocolate mousse from the menu which was my favourite dessert in town.
Food was absolutely fantastic, service was great! The schnitzel special was out of this world
Caesar salad had no taste. The burger was ok, out of a box!!. Expensive. Server was really good. Hard to understand . Probably wouldn t go back!
Surprised by all the positive reviews, but maybe the quality has gone down since then. Food was passable, but pretty bland and the presentation had minimal effort. Worst part were the servers, who barely made an effort to smile. Felt like they didnt actually care to serve you and just wanted you to eat and leave.
We really enjoyed the fried cauliflower appetizer. I had the prime pork with peppercorn sauce that was delicious. They also had a fun variety of cocktails and martinis.
The food here is absolutely delicious! Highly recommend the White sauce pasta !!! ordered for takeout today . Hands down, some of the best food Ive had recently!
my son treated me to this restarant for Mothers day/ birthday l was very happy with the entire experience. Food was excellent, servers friendly. All in all I recommend this gem of a restaurant.
We had high hopes for this spot when my mom picked it for her Mother s Day dinner as it is nice and close to where she lives and the reviews were good. I will concede that they were operating with a special Mother s Day menu, not their normal menu. The server struggled help me with a wine selection and seemed not to know what I was asking about. The mushroom bruschetta was a soggy mess. Our mains were all good, though the cheese wheel rigatoni was surprisingly bland. I had the saffron shrimp linguine and it was the best of the mains, very tasty. The steak was just ok according to my sister. Desserts were good. We just felt that for the price we paid it was a bit of a letdown. We might try again sometime with the regular menu.
Im response to the owner: Funny you should ask for feedback on Google but not come to our table after we had shared with the server our displeasure at waiting over an hour for any food to be served. On top of that, you asked your server to offer 10% off our apps to which I argued that they should be comped. If you wanted to know how to make my guest experience better you could have come over and spoken to us. Food was OK; fish was overcooked and dry, burger was greasy and looked like a frozen patty. The seafood pasta was good. Overall overpriced considering the quality and service. For context, our server was clearly swamped, had a large party and our table of 4. Despite this I saw multiple servers and the manager standing around not helping despite looking over and seeing that we were lacking even water refills, let alone the complimentary table bread (and our meals). Very disappointed in the management and service.
Birthday dinner really good food and beverages
When I made the reservation for my daughters birthday dinner, I asked if they would do something special to mark the occasion. My daughter, her partner, and I each had the salmon, and it was excellent. Then the server brought out a slice of cake on a board with a lit sparkler candle, and Happy Birthday etched in icing sugar on the board. We were delighted with the presentation. I understand that YRK is under new management. The server was attentive, the food was so good, and they went above and beyond to accommodate my request. I highly recommend it.
Pleasant atmosphere excellent food, attentive staff
The man serving us was very nice, and the food was delicious. I recommend their milkshakes
Food was absolutely amazing! Loved the coconut shrimp appetizer 10/10 Pasta was delicious and the tiramisu was like the one I had in Italy. Cannot recommend this place enough!
Really enjoyed everything. You must get the spiked hot chocolate. Omg
Heard a lot of good things about this place. Thought my boyfriend and I would have a nice little date night here, the place was empty they sat us down at a table, took our orders and about 5 minutes after, asked us to put our coffees in our car, and I wasn t about to so we left and will not be coming back! I don t recommend this place if you like enjoying a Timmy s iced coffee at a restaurant!
I love the atmosphere and vibe of the place! The food is really good and service is alright too! It s definitely a place I d recommend checking out!
First time here and I was hoping to love it but unfortunately that was not the case! Our service was very nice Food
Great food! Friendly people loved it!
We went this weekend for an early dinner. The new owners are wonderful. They maintained some of York Road Kitchens favourites as well as their own. First the complimentary house made bread was awesome. I ordered the mushroom stilton appetizer and licked the plate. The ravioli fungi was amazing and the Grand Marnier creme brule was so good. The BEST was my SIPPING CHOCOLATE. So amazing. The local beers served were terrific too from Fixed Gear and Wellington. We loved all the stones and crystal ball at the front. Thank you for a great afternoon.
What happened to this place? The new ownership has ruined what was once a local favorite. Never again.
There was a mix up with our take out dessert. I didnt realize this until we got home. An employee called and immediately sent someone out to deliver our dessert. Excellent service and delicious dessert. I dont normally write reviews but felt this was worth the mention as its exceptional service.
Wanted to love this place. Live super close so we went for our anniversary dinner to check it out. Food was extremely bland. We got the stacked goat cheese dip with tortilla chips that were stale. Coconut shrimp were okay. I got salmon which was super bland- didn t even have enough salt. My hubby s pasta was meh- not good, not bad. We were even offered a bruschetta on naan type snack and it was also bland and missing seasoning. Inside is unique and cute, although outdated. Restaurant was also pretty empty and we mentioned we were there for a romantic dinner and waitress seated family with 4 kids directly beside us.. so kind of killed the vibe but I understand it happens. As I said- we wanted to love this place and I think it has a lot of potential but needs to step it up a lot. Unfortunately, wouldn t recommend or go back. I m sorry to say it.
My boyfriend and I went here this past Valentines Day, and weve been here before but the menu options were exceptionally good. This is one of the best eats in Guelph, possibly the best. We really enjoyed our time and for being on the nicer side of restaurants, the amount of food is adequate. Cant forget about the chocolate~~ the York Dream drink is AMAZING and my favorite.
Came in last minute after a hike, gave free food and all was fresh and good. Great service and props to the chef
Pretty good food and friendly service.
Had an amazing lunch today. Can t wait to go back!
Food was very tasty!! The chocolate sipping coffee was interesting and tasty as well, would recommend with steamed milk. Service felt a little like they were ignoring us at times and the restaurant was not busy. Overall good and I would go back! Inside could be renovated a little!
Great food and great service
A few friends and I were celebrating a birthday and we had the most amazing food. The service was great and they went above and beyond for our friends birthday. Would highly recommend. You will not be disappointed.
Very tasty food here. I will come again definitely
Kind regards from Hamburg
So disappointed with what the new owners have done. They have cheaped out on quality. We ordered Fish and chips ( I always raved about the quality previously) half the frozen fries were still hard and cold, the other dry they used to be fresh cut fries. The fish was ok. They went to a jarred Tartar sauce instead of the house made Tatar sauce, and the coleslaw was shredded carrots and cabbage with no dressing. They couldnt even fill the tiny cup . You cant keep customers coming back with cheaping out. We were very spoiled from the previous owners quality, this is just garbage . They raised the price and give bad quality. Unfortunately we wont be back. With households tight for money, when they do spoil themselves with takeout, they want quality
Great food and service.
This used to be such a great place for date night. Recently went with a few friends and we were all so disappointed. This place has clearly switched hands recently because the food quality is NOT the same. Service was painful.
The waitresses were friendly. We, however, found the service to be very rushed from the start, considering that the restaurant was not too busy. Our mains arrived whilst we were still eating our entrées. When looking at the quantity and quality of the food overall, we found the food not quite worth the price.
Went to the restaurant with a group of 12! The Service and the Food were good!
Have been going to York Road for a few years now and finally decided to leave a review . I love the cozy atmosphere and the friendly staff. All the food is very yummy, but especially love the pasta. Noodles are fresh and made in house and I am yet to have a bad meal.
Excellent food!
Good place to dine, great desserts however I was not fortunate with my burger. The bun was a bit stale..... Overall the service was good and attentive .
I had such a lovely time dining in this wonderful establishment! The delicious food was complimented by the incredible atmosphere and very helpful staff. Would totally recommend!
My experience at York Road Kitchen was nothing short of fantastic! Wonderful service, delicious food, and very welcoming atmosphere. The food tasted like fine dining, but with generous portions. I would highly recommend the in-house made pasta dishes and any dessert. I will 100% be returning here.
Fish and chips was a real disappointment. I usually order the fish and chips. However, this time there was much more batter than fish and couldnt eat most of the meal. A real disappointment.
Chocolate on your food. This is the gastronomy dreams are made of. Always delicious. Highly recommend.
Available reservation time slot online but cancelled via email after the fact Edit replying to response: you should have called me instead of cancelling then if there were arrangements that could have been made. I won t be changing my review because you re a small business.. lol
Took my parents here for a birthday dinner. Absolutely loved it! Food was all excellent, drinks were great, the atmosphere really encourages conversation and just being together- no screens Just had a great experience overall!
I brought my mother-in-law here to celebrate her birthday and we had a fantastic evening. It was our first time here and we were impressed by the cozy inviting atmosphere. The spacious booths and jazz music playing added to the relaxed vibe. I had coconut shrimp to start and the salmon which were both delicious and my mother in law enjoyed her fish and chips. They removed the chocolate fondue from the regular menu but thankfully it was a feature that night! An added touch was the salt scrub treatment in the restroom...my hands were silky smooth leaving the restaurant! Overall we had a lovely experience and would definitely go back in the future.
Family friendly elegant atmosphere. Beautiful bar, excellent drinks. Our meal was delicious. We had the Pasta and Brisket. Our desserts were rich and decadent. Service was excellent. Thank you Sara and team
Found this place by chance last night and it was incredible. Great food great service great atmosphere great prices
What a great spot for a date. My Fiance and I enjoyed dinner here tonight and it was a fantastic experience. We ordered the Thursday night date night dinner for 2 which we had the choice of choosing between 3 different appetizers, 3 meals and 3 desserts. The service was great, our waitress came and asked us several times if we were doing good and our food was out really fast. The deco in here is also very well thought out and kept my eyes happy. For our first time here we enjoyed every bit of it.
Great food, great atmosphere, great service! Deserts are awesome!
Try the mushroom raviolli it is delicious, add some garlic shrimp. Great meal, hubby had the meatloaf, definitely one of his favourites. Great atmosphere!! Staff are friendly and the food is yummy! Vegetarian options: They have a great menu with lots of choice for vegans.
Great place, we will be back
Nicely put together wife and husband joint offering good food, mostly with a chocolate sub-text... tasty food, friendly service ensures a return visit is in the cards for this gem. Dietary restrictions: Willingly accommodated the dietary restrictions of my party... allergies to fish, shellfish, nuts and sesame easily handled...I will triple check... says the helpful server...bravo!
Just lovely!! Bonus...Norah Jones music ...great service! This is hospitality of the best quality! The food was delicious.Thank you G.V.and family
We chose York Road Kitchen to host our 50 person wedding reception. The planning of the event was easy. The day of we showed up at the restaurant and the staff was attentive and service was great. Each round of food came out quickly so for the most part we all were eating at the same time. They offered a limited number of surf and turf meals as a free upgrade, which was nice. Lots of guest raved about their meals and we had no negative feedback from out guests. We were able to watch the hockey game at the bar after supper which gave us some elbow room in the back as 50 ppl made it cozy. I would recommend the YRK to anyone needing to entertain a bunch or just to take the family out for a nice dinner.
Great service, great food, great experience
The service was slow, and the food was nothing special and not very flavorful and poorly seasoned. I have visited before and it was much more enjoyable. Hope they figure it out.
Called to make reservation two weeks in advance, restaurant never confirmed and gave the reservation to another party.
Yummy burger with blue cheese and bacon jam...all of their entrees looked great and had vegetarian options too. Lots of drinks to choose from as well. Had a honey brown ale but would gladly give their cocktails a try. Would like to try the patio next time as well.
Over the top customer service, fantastic food & prices that would please any wallet. They even have a seniors menu which they serve every night of the week that is extremely well priced. Casual relaxed dining atmosphere; jeans welcomed. Although we live out of town, we will definitely return!
food was great, would highly recommend
We went for the date night special. The service was top-notch ,our waitress made sure to check in to make sure we were satisfied. Ill definitely will be returning
Made reservations for 5 here last evening, originally requested for 6:30pm but was told the earliest available was 7:15pm. When we arrived, the restaurant had few people in it, which was odd that they couldnt accommodate our 6:30pm request. No big deal. They also had advertised an appetizers BOGO promotion, but was told that only applies to customers seated at 7:30pm (we were 7:15pm) - again, also strange... Although the food was excellent, the drinks, although looked wonderful, was very bland (except for the caesar). Service and order accuracy was good.
We wanted to love it, but.. four of us for dinner. We all thought our meals were so-so to average. Wont be returning.
Nice atmosphere, good food, and excellent service.
This place blew me away, the pesto fettuccine Alfredo was amazing, but the real star of the show was the sticky toffee pudding. You must try this amazing delicacy.
Food was amazing, the best option in this area
Partner was served pork chop which was raw in the middle; they proceeded to serve the same pork chop reheated afterwards on the same plate. Dangerous food practise. Apparently under new ownership now, so avoid.
Food is good, service is good .all over is excellent.
My husband and I have been here once before and really enjoyed the food, however tonight we did not have a great experience and ended up leaving before we were even able to speak to a waiter as one didnt even show up to our table to serve us. My husband made a reservation for us at 6:30pm, after we arrived we waited for a few minutes at the door before a staff member came over to seat us. After we were seated at our table the staff member left and no one came to bring us water or drink menus or even take our order. While we were waiting, the gentleman who sat us went to the other two seated tables in the room to take dishes and take more orders from them, but never acknowledged us despite us having been sitting at the table for nearly 20 minutes. So we left and are now hopefully going to find a restaurant that wants our service.
Super delicious food friendly staff will be happy to come back
Ive heard great things unfortunately Ive tried to contact them multiple times to book their private room to not get a response including me walking in and giving the hottest my name and number. If it wasnt a good fit they could have just said so but clearly dont want my business.
Eclectic and interesting style makes for fantastic atmosphere. Food is top-notch and service staff are helpful and friendly.
This restaurant has changed hands. They are also writing their own reviews. Staff and family! We were there as a party of four. We were ignored at the door and then seated in a very abrupt manner. The server didnt acknowledge our presence for at least 10 minutes. Things didnt get any better. We used to celebrate all our special occasions here. We miss the previous owners.
New owners are ruining this lovely place. I used to love coming here, but new owners, no idea how to run a restaurant, served us freezerburnt fish and tried to make us pay for it. The food is nowhere as near as good as it used to be. Will not be coming back.
We celebrated an engagement here! So happy for our friends and the staff provided excellent service. The food was pretty good, I was kind of hoping for more chocolatey creations/fusions but their staples were all spot on. The milkshakes were to die for. I had both the standard milk chocolate and mint chocolate, it was so good the first time around, I had to get another one. And the portions were quite generous. I was stuffed, and almost did not finish my meal. But instead, I ate more sides because it was all just done right. I would go back and order more milkshakes if I could. I really enjoyed it!
Used to love this restaurant. The last two times it has been obvious the fries and calamari are frozen and not made in house. Apparently it s under new management which explains the sudden decline in quality. Seems like the good reviews are staff and friends. Ordered a two piece fish and chips, calamari, and pasta. Instead of two pieces of fish with fries, we received two individual orders of fish and chips and were charged $16 extra. Do not recommend.
Fantastic food for a good price. Try their smores!
The food is average, it seems they dont change fryer oil as often as they should - the fish and calamari, and shrimp, and the fries were very dark and had a distinct smell of overcooked oil. Their cocktails are good and the dessert is great. The waiter was friendly and welcoming and I tipped him well for his service. The tables are clean but overall the place looks quite old, and not very well maintained. I would not call it a cozy place. Although I have no complaints about the service and overall atmosphere, I doubt that I will visit again. Parking: Pretty much unlimited parking in the lot, along the road and across the road.
The Food and service seems to have dropped off a cliff in recent months. It feels as though they fired all their professional staff and the new owners have replaced them with friends/family who are completely out of their element. Originally I gave them 4 stars. Since then Ive been back more 3 times. While I thought it may have been an off night I could forgive at first, after our most recent visit I felt the quality of food and level of service was downright shameful. Its hard to imagine going back again now. The pesto cream pasta seems to have lost all flavour, and the amount of sauce added can be real inconsistant. The sundae that comes with the kids meal is now about half the size, arrived half melted, and they no longer ask if we want hot fudge on top. Caesar now came with sugar rather then salt around the rim (when we brought this to their attention we were told it was intentional). I hadnt ordered the milkshake previously, but on my recent visit I found it resembles mildly flavoured milk. Not thick in the slightest. The last waiter we had seemed completely disinterested in the job. We even had to grab our own cutlery as when we were brought our food the server disappeared before we realized we had nothing to eat with. Original review: Massive portions, Good quality, nice ambiance, a deal card for kids that gives a bunch of free meals if you go back for repeat visits. I loved their pesto cream pasta and was happy enough with their roast chicken. The lava cake could have been better. My biggest problem with York Rd Kitchen & Chocolate Bar is that the vegetarian options are somewhat limited. Overall, this is one of my favourite dine out spots.
The best restaurant in Guelph , 4th time here . Food is amazing , bar amazing . Superb service . Dessert very good . 4 times never disappointed .
Sad that we never got to try it under the previous ownership. They no longer do chocolate fusions on their dinner menu. Despite the menu itself not having changed and saying that items came with chocolate gravy, when ordering we were informed that it was just plain gravy. The food was very plain, prices were high ($27 for chicken parmesan with fries and a tiny salad), service was adequate. Wont be returning.
We have been going to the York Road Kitchen and Chocolate Bar for a few years now. What a wonderful out of the way place this is. The food is simply outstanding; I ve never had a bad meal. I have however settled in on the fish and chips as a favourite. Now my problem is the each time I go I spy something else on the menu but my mind says what about the fish and chips . The tower of onion rings is a favourite app as well. The atmosphere is casual and quiet with wonderful music playing. In fact I ve found myself asking the wait staff who is playing and then exploring the artist once I get home. Became a Gregory Porter fan this way. All in all, you can go wrong at the York Road Kitchen and Chocolate Bar. We ve been on date night, I ve been with a buddy, we ve been with friends. All like it. It is one of our quiet, out out of the way, favourites in Guelph.
Came and was only asked about water waited over 20 minutes to be served and had to go to front counter to say something about being served . Not offered anything for the convenience of having to wait. Manager didnt come say anything. Food was ok , not worth price in my opinion.
Not how I remembered. New ownership perhaps? Service was friendly. Food was ok. Place was extremely quiet for a Saturday night. No fun atmosphere whatsoever. Oysters were not shucked properly, difficult to eat as they were not loosened. Not memorable enough to return.
New management have ruined this place. Will not return.
This restaurant is absolutely outstanding. What a hidden gem. We have dined here since this summer and have always been blown away by the quality of the food, ambiance, originality and service level. This place is almost too good to share!
The food here is amazing! We held a birthday party here and the food and service was phenomenal! Everything was fresh, nothing was dried out from beginning to end. Dave worked with us on our menu options and was accommodating the whole way through. We will return without a doubt!
What a difference a year makes. Last year I was happy to give this establishment 5 stars across the board. We went there the other day and boy have things changed. Apparently they are under new management and the growing pains are showing. It is understaffed, disorganized and lacks any of the charm and atmosphere from before (likely because the 2 waitresses were running around trying to service all the tables by themselves with minimal help from other staff). Staff were polite and apologetic but slow - I get it, but the transition from old to new is critical. It feels like they are in some kind of middle ground where theyve lost what the restaurant had before but havent put their own mark or brand on the new one. I should have known when the website has nothing else than a 2 month countdown timer to a new version. 2 months?! Thats a lifetime in restaurant terms. The food and drinks were ok but the calamari was overdone and not the tender, lightly battered app we were looking forward to. Menu changes werent posted or mentioned and I was surprised when I got gnocchi instead of the shell pasta. Not the end of the world but they need work managing expectations. My wine was ok but my partner was let down with hers - who puts olives in a chocolate martini? Id say they dont go together. Also, dont sit a couple down immediately beside the loudest table in the restaurant when there are other, more intimate, options available. It felt a bit like eating in a high school cafeteria. I hope this place can get its act together quickly. I will sorely miss what this restaurant used to be.
Eh, what happened? Do the new owners not think people won t notice the poorer quality and lack of cleanliness in the restaurant? Our meals were awful. Cold coffee, expired desserts, and food cooked in rancid oil. I actually got sick and vomited a few hours after eating. We will never, ever be back and will recommend people *not* to go anymore. Service was great however and I feel bad for the staff having to work here now. Used to love this place :( They don t deserve to piggy back off all the 5 Star reviews the previous owners worked hard to get. Such a shame!! Stay away unless you want to be sick
Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free options Food
Delicious food well done and the service was awesome.
Friendly seruce, was quick enough and the food was good. Good selection of cocktails and local beer as well!
We finally had the chance to try York Rd Kitchen a couple of weeks ago. The restaurant is unique and nice inside. We were happy it was child friendly. Service was great as well. The food was good. We all ordered something different and enjoyed our meal. I had the chicken pesto fettuccine, my husband had the steak and my mother had the gnocchi and we all liked the food. It was a nice change from the chains but in terms of pricing and food, we did feel it was a bit over priced for what we received.
We love eating at York Road Kitchen. The food was really good and the service was fast. Food
We hosted my daughters baptismal reception here this past weekend and all expectations were exceeded. The private room we recieved was perfect for our event. The venue was very accommodating. The staff were very friendly and offered wonderful service. The food was delicious! We are very grateful to Dave and his team for hosting our reception and providing impeccable service and a day to remember!
We had a luncheon for 12 people. York Rd Kitchen worked on a fabulous menu plan with two entre choices for the group. The food was awesome! The staff were very attentive and accommodating. I wouldnt hesitate to book another function with them at all.
Food was fresh and flavorful. Staff was friendly and professional. Great place to go for lunch or dinner.
Fantastic place for a family Christmas dinner!
We just finished celebrating our annual Christmas party at York Road kitchen with 45 guests and everything was amazing! The atmosphere was fantastic, the restaurant was cozy and welcoming the staff were fantastic and very accommodating and the food was wonderful. Dave helped us coordinate everything and had his team very organized to handle such a large party all at one time. We took over the entire restaurant playing games, doing speeches and having prizes given out. The staff was very polite and patient with us despite all the Ruckus we made playing minute to win at games. Thank you York Road Kitchen!
A very weird flex to release a new menu on social media, then close 4 days later for Saturday dinner time without making an announcement on the same platform. Then instead of posting a sign on the front door, they look at would-be customers as if we should have known theyd be closed for the first Saturday of the new menu. Like a few formerly great spots around town under new ownership, they really shouldnt be allowed to keep the good reviews from the previous restaurant. Its just not the same anymore.
We had a reservation but sadly both werent feeling great. Changed the reservation to take out. Amazing food and really awesome the way they presented it.
I went to YRK when they first opened and was pretty unimpressed so didn t go back for a long time, until we had a hankering for milkshakes when we were out for a walk in the OR. The staff were super friendly, the milkshakes were good and what was coming out of the kitchen looked solid so we decided to give their takeout a go to mix up COVID Takeout Fridays a bit. SO happy we decided to do it! They offer reusable dishes, which is great and everything we ordered was absolutely on point. The care they put into plating the takeout containers was so appreciated and made it feel like we were having the treat of eating at a real restaurant again. For the ultimate endorsement, our 7 year old said the chocolate gravy was the best gravy after GrandMum s and the chicken fingers were better than McDonald s - high praise indeed for a child who would live off of chicken nugget happy meals if we let him. He also called the Mango Blue Spritzer the master drink (I don t know what that means but he asked it be included). Thanks so much to all the staff for making another pandemic night feel a bit more special!
I ordered the Valentine s Day Date night done along with two kids meals and was blown away. First of all, they thought of everything. The food was delicious, the extra cookies, hand-made hand scrub, and cocktails were a very nice touch. The icing on the cake for us though, was that they sent along Valentine s themed pencils, erasers, stickers and colouring pages for the kids that were unexpected. What a great surprise! They loved it. Thanks for making it a wonderful evening! We will definitely order again soon!
We had 10 people and our wedding dinner celebration at York Rd. The food was delicious and every single person raved about their meal. They were accommodating and thorough with our needs. The staff were so friendly. Will definitely be going here for dinner when we return to Guelph.
Wonderful service, delicious entree and amazing desert ( try the chocolate lava cake ) in a unique atmosphere ~ Highly recommend. ps the homemade hand scrub in the bathroom is so nice!!
A unique little set up with lots of charm makes this a great place to share with friends or out of town visitors. The food has all been delicious. Their chocolate gravy is definitely worth a try! Its not sweet at all, just extra tasty!
Our first visit to YRK and definitely not our last! The staff were so friendly and gracious, and the food was so delicious! We will be back!
Awesome food, must try the york road ceasar !
Great food. Great service. Highly recommend
Food was not as expected but good place for drinks and dessert.
Great service, very friendly. Great atmosphere and even better food
A small menu varied menu but with some items having a chocolate addition and great knowledgeable staff. You cant go wrong!!!
Great service with a chocolate touch to most dishes. Very good food and the most creative meal Ive had in the area..... Great meal Ill be back..
Best Restaurant I have dined in Guelph . Worth going every time I can . Second time in this restaurant my favorite , the ravioli with mushrooms and regula , filled with blue cheese excellent .
Service and food were decent.. found the restaurant not very clean. If you visit this restaurant do not order the mac and cheese for your kids.. they make it with a very strong tasting cheese. My kids ended up not touching it after tasting it.
Amazing food, warm customer experience and extremly kids friendly
Nice staff, food was pretty good
A perfect meal destination. I had the pork chop and it was one of the best pork chops Ive ever had. Absolutely delightful Food
Was in Guelph from out of town. I haven t been here for a few years due to the fire and the pandemic. It was every bit as wonderful as I remember! Did not make the same mistake I made the first time I went here tonight I left room for dessert . Thanks for a delicious meal and a great evening out!
Great cocktail selection for something new and fresh. Vibrant food. Definitely recommend.
Such a unique restaurant in Guelph. Highly recommend! Beautiful decor, wine on tap, sipping chocolate and very yummy entrees at a reasonable price. Need I say more?
York road has been a family favorite for many years. Last weekend they did an outstanding job hosting my bridal shower in the back room. Everything was delicious and fresh, great ambiance and service! The chocolate fondue was to die for, reminded me of the old days at the other brothers. Thank you all for everything.
A very mixed outcome but slow service and overly greasy food spoiled the meal. Came here with my family for fathers day. To start we probably had the worse table in the place as we were basically in the entrance way with a choice of views including watching people stream in and out picking up their take out or a 60 tv screen. Neither was what I thought I thought I would be looking at in a proper restaurant not a pub. Server was nice and friendly, unfortunately l was also very slow. I ordered a beer when we seated at 6pm but didnt get it until 6.25 which I felt was too long of a wait. Food was mostly OK but I ordered fish tacos and the fish was very greasy and ruined the dish. The same happened with the entrée which came with wedges, they were essentially wet with grease. My wife and I had the wedges and both portions were left behind as they were inedible. My daughter got the childrens pasta in a pesto and cream sauce but this was also swimming in oil and ultimately not eaten. The restaurant did comp us a fondue desert which was nice, but ultimately this place fell far short of expectations. The menu looked great with so many options we were sure it would be a winner for us but 3 out of 4 people were unable to eat all the food served due to excess oil and grease.
Thoroughly enjoyed our couples special.on the patio.
Excellent service, the food & the drinks were great.
So yummy! The food is tasty and is a must if you are a chocolate-lover. I had a fantastic chocolate cocktail and my sister really enjoyed her lava cake for dessert. The menu is really interesting and they have daily specials. The kids menu is also really great, the price is excellent and the offerings are good! My toddler loved the pesto pasta with her chocolate milk and of course a sundae for dessert!
Amazing food best milkshake
Don t appreciate the manager and line cook Allanah Nightingale s harassment over Facebook, after not selling her a couch to flip. Don t think I ll be coming here if that s the restaurants atmosphere.
Extremely friendly staff and great vibe of the place. Indoor or outdoor. Great food menu and amazing taste.
The atmosphere and service was mint. Food was on par with what youd dream iflt would be. Being a person who is NOT a fan of chocolate, I HIGHLY recommend the chocolate gravy tender.
Fantastic food, great service
Not just good dinner, but an entirely fantastic dining experience. Every aspect of this place is incredible, from the amazing food and drinks, to the wonderful staff, and even the decor and furniture, all of it is top tier quality. Will certainly be making this restaurant a regular destination.
From the outside, restaurant looks like a cute little hobbit house in the shire from Lord of the Rings. Inside felt the same as well as moody, romantic cozy round bench seating, slow jazz music that wasn t loud. Service was wonderful and food was delicious and presentation was that of a high end restaurant. We loved this restaurant and will be back and bring others. New favourite spot.
Great, original food. Awesome service. Great atmosphere. Classic! Food
Its a very cozy place! Nice decor and amazing service.. Just alil less satisfying with food. But again dessert was just perfect! Food
This place is great, the pan seared salmon is top notch. Good variety of options too!
Great little spot! Excellent service and the pasta was amazing.
Amazing cozy atmosphere serving comfort food staples.
Food was good. Servings large. Sticky toffee pudding very good. A nice place for a quiet meal.
Takeout was great, will return for dine in sometime in the near future !
Good food and good service
We went to YRK recently after not being there for a few years. The servers were great, the meal took a little too long to arrive. When my wife s steak came, it was cold and not very tender. They reheated it, but not an overall great experience for her. They did not offer to compensate it. My salmon was good.
Super service. Great food. Definitely will be back!
The only good thing were your servers. Your hamburgers were dry and tasteless resembled cardboard and the cauliflower was still frozen. I had better meals from a Hungry Man Meal.
One of the most creative and lively menus in the city. Warm, cozy ambience. Attentive, accommodating staff. Really well thought out taps from all three of our local craft breweries, including the often underrepresented fixed gear. A quality experience throughout! Highly recommended.
Had a large reservation (16 people) on the patio for my birthday and York Rd. Kitchen did not disappoint! Stayed cozy in the tent with a heater and they even had blankets (October so it was a high of 9°)! Food was delicious, and server staff very attentive and friendly. It was perfect!
Best restaurant value in Guelph. Amazing food, inventive cocktails, great service and a cozy vibe, all at very reasonable prices. Highly recommended!
I got the pork chop and the potatoes were fridge level cold. Kids Mac and cheese was made with strong cheese, which they refuse to eat. Staff was nice.
Such a cool atmosphere, friendly staff and the food is so freaking good. The truffled bacon Mac and cheese is to die for. Make sure you leave room for dessert, these are not your average dessert choices - these are chocolate masterpieces - as pretty as they are tasty Very reasonably priced for a lovely meal, and a family favourite at our house
Great service food and atmosphere!
