The fish (halibut) was delicious. A generous 1 piece and fries...for fifty cents you can have half fries, half coleslaw. I thought the price of 22.99 a little high and two pieces was 39.99! People are paying it though. It was busy for dine in and takeout. The restaurant needs a little update... Service was friendly, and the food came quickly

I just got 2 pieces of Haddock and chips from this restaurant for $33. When I got home the fish was swimming in grease. There was a pool of it at the bottom of the box. When I went to it eat the fish was rubbery with an odd colour and after 5 minutes the chips became hard. This restaurant used to have great food so I m not sure what has happened. I have given this restaurant many chances but I m officially done.

This place was surprisingly good, reasonable priced, fast, and with a very friendly server. Next time Im in Guelp I can see myself stopping by again. Fish and chips are good, the ceaser salad is ok. Friendly service!

The cod was good, good batter, a nice sized piece. The fries were barely warm, under or over cooked. No cole slaw. The prices are surprisingly high. Nearly $24 for halibut.

Our waitress was very friendly and service was great. Fish was excellent, my fries could have been cooked a little longer.

There is a very diligent young man at the helm of this restaurant. Steven always tends to the counter, serves the food, and ensures his customers are well looked after, and happy with the service. As for the food, my wife and I think there is no better place for fish and chips in Guelph, Ontario and the surrounding region.

Excellent fish & chips. It surprised me that they didnt have any beer from Wellington County Brewery thats just down the road. A beer from there or another Craft Brewery would have made the meal much better.

Sorry I hate to rate so low but probably the worst fish and chips I ever had. The fries were not completely cooked, still crunchy inside. The fish batter was way too pale. Not sure if they were rushing the orders, maybe fresh oil but it was not good. Sorry, I really wanted to enjoy the meal. The lady working the front was very nice.

This place I gave 5 its a little Gem. I ordered the battered Haddock and Chips. The fish was absolutely delicious with a thin coating of light and fluffy melt in your mouth battered and the Chips nice a thick real potato a treat indeed, I was so impressed I went two nights in a row. This place is my number one for fish and Chips and excellent service

May have been the worst fish I have ever had , batter was not crispy and the fries were soggy and not very great . It also is a small portion for 17$ . On the other hand the mozzarella sticks were good . But I feel like I got ripped off . I ate the fish so it wouldnt waste but very disappointed.

I ordered 2 Halibut and chips for my wife and I tonight. $50 frikin dollars. The fish was all batter with little fish. The absolute worst fish I have ever had. Honestly the fish was about as thick as a piece of sliced cheese with an inch of batter on both sides. Greasy as well. When I went in I ordered 2 individual orders. When they gave them to me one box had 2 pieces of fish in it and the other had two orders of fries. Cant figure that one out. Never going back there ever.

Thieves who sell haddock as halibut. I spent weeks comparing their fish to one I trust. Every other time I went to golden I accused them of mixing haddock and halibut and I knew the difference in flavor and flakiness. This is the only time I recieved halibut when I paid and ordered halibut. I have two massive peices of haddock in place of my halibu currently after not specifying I know the differnece. When asked the Owner said white fish is white fish and the kitchen csnt be bothered

Great food, would recommend the Cod. It seems to have a different batter than the jumbo haddock. Both were great although the service was missing something. Our appetizer came with no plates, despite there being 3 of us. Ended up eating off our napkins... Also fish didnt come with lemon. Had to ask for lemon, to their credit they brought the perfect amount and quite quickly. Our server was quick with everything, food, drinks, lemons, ect.

The food could be better I ordered the fish and chips and it was a little too greasy and the portions were not big enough according to what they read the prices for.

Was not happy with our meal salad had next to no dressing on it and tiny for $7.99 definitely not worth it I had too put the fries in the air fryer too heat them up. Tartar sauce is some packaged garbage. First fish and chip place I ve eaten at where they don t have coleslaw with your meal. Going with a 3 out of 10 here fish taste good that was it .

Went here for Good Friday fish and chips, spent $100 on 6 pieces of fish and 3 servings of chips and then found out when i got home (3 minute drive) that everything was stone cold and tasted disgusting. Extremely disappointing.

First time trying Golden Fish & Chips and we were very pleased. Firstly it looked very clean inside, the staff were very friendly and organized especially as it was Good Friday!! The fish was crisp but not too greasy. Uneven pieces but very tasty!

Meal prices for fish & chips were very expensive. In their defence, I guess prices for seafood which they have to purchase are very highly priced, as well. Staff was very cordial and polite.

Ive been going here on and off for about 5 years. I remember the value being a lot better than it is now. For $18 total you get a pretty small portion of Halibut & chips. For what I got I would have been fine paying maybe $13-14. The fish was fantastic, had they included a lot more chips I would have been happier.

This place used to be good. I spent $150 with tip and tax which includes a family size haddock and chips (they no longer serve the jumbo haddock family) in addition I ordered 2 halibut and chips. This came with 2 boxes of fries. Not enough for a family. Their solution is to buy more fries next time instead of including and adequate amount of chips. When I called to talk to them about this the owner hung up on me. TL:DR french fries undercook and under portioned. Too expensive for what you get. Look elsewhere!

Really nice guy serving the food and really wanted to give a good review, but I am so spoiled by how good The Fish Hut is that the two are not comparable. I know cost is a factor in these days/times but felt it was much higher than expected. If I could make a suggestion, try other recipes to make the fish/batter more flavorful.

This was a horrible experience from start to finish. Firstly, order didn t arrive within the hour despite receiving a confirmation email and paying for it online. Called the place at the hour mark and while the manager/owner was polite, he didn t take responsibility for his computer system not working properly and said it needed to be refreshed and that is why they didn t see the original order. Then he offered to make it and deliver it himself, which while we appreciated, we would have preferred he offer a credit or some kind of refund seeing as how we had to wait an hour and a half for our original order to arrive. The food was awful. Greasy. Tasteless. Everything tasted the same from the fish to the calamari to the battered mushrooms bc they use the same batter for everything. They also forgot one of our sides of coleslaw and still charged for it. And this was expensive (almost $100 for three meals and two apps). Not even worth $25. Never again.

Absolutely wonderful! I have been coming to this fish and chips shop for over 15 years and they never disappoint. Since the beginning of the lockdown, the prices have gone up a little, bit not too much for the huge portions you always get. Make sure to try the clam strips! They are delicious and are always cooked perfectly.

The food was very good and the place very clean and friendly, but being new to Guelph, that was my first local fish and chips and I will continue to try other places.

Dec. 28. 2019 update: had dinner here again. Delicious and the food was nice and hot. ...... We brought friends here for dinner and all four of us loved our fish and chips. It was not crowded when we got there so the service by the single server was fine. By the time we left, it was getting busy; not sure how they would all get prompt service. This was the first time we ate in (instead of takeout) . There are many tables, some by the window for a view of your car while you eat. (Certainly not scenic.) Fish is not cheap anymore but the Haddock was decent value because of the Special that was on that evening. They offer beer and wine in addition to soft drinks. (Beer is an ideal companion to fish & chips.) Haddock tastes just like Halibut to me, but is $5 less expensive. The Cod is actually a dollar more than the haddock dinner. As I write this, I feel like driving down and having the haddock and fries for lunch. They are so good, I could eat two orders myself. We had dinner here again Oct. 20 and again, the Haddock and Chips were delicious.

I have only had the halibut and chips takeout several times - very good. FYI only debit and cash accepted.

Just a great fish & chip place.

First time dining here and the inside looked clean but my order was for take out. Order the 4 can dine jumbo family deal. Fish portions were a good size but the fries were more like a 2 person portion rather the 4. The fries came in 1 box and the fish was wrapped separately. The weird thing I noticed is that they only provide 2 tartar sauce packets and charge $1 for 5 of them if you want more,, is there a tartar sauce shortage happening?. Price was not reflected in what you get and was $20 more then most places in Mississauga.

The fish and chips were delicious!!! The haddock was extremely crispy and the fries dipped in gravy were amazing. Plus shout out to the individual working cash, I know things are extremely hectic right now for restaurants during this pandemic and the employee taking and handing out orders was very friendly and kind to every customer even though it was obvious they were very busy. Very grateful for you guys :)

A delicious lupper of cod & fries .... as well as a shared appetizer of battered mushrooms. COVID protocols in place .... sanitizer at the door when you come in, signs up explaining take out & dine in procedure .... they take your name & phone number just in case its needed .... waitress in full face shield and you are asked to leave your face mask on until AFTER food is brought to the table. Quick service, hot food and the waitress was friendly. Limited dine in menu and some things werent available as they werent stocking things that had the tendency to spoil .... but all and all a pleasant & delicious meal.

For the price the food should be better. Asked for my fish and chips to be well done but when it came out it was not. The fries were still firm, not cooked at all, a sort of beige I color. I asked him to take it back but he said the cook says this is already well done and said he couldnt take it back. Sorry, but for the price Ill go elsewhere in future.
