1990 Barrington St, Halifax, NS B3J 1P2, Canada
Not your average Hotel Restaurant! No Truffle Oil or Sea Foam here! Classic comfort foods and favorites full of flavor!
We have eaten here the past two nights, returning tonight because we were pleasantly surprised by the prices being affordable, great service as it turned out by Samara on both nights, and tasty food. Usually hotel restaurants are overpriced but not in this case.
This place is difficult to find and hard to get to... The overall experience was fantastic great service, our server was super friendly! The ambiance is nice too-The food is okay. If you're downtown and need some afforsbale seafood maybe come here, otherwise it's okay to skip it out.
First time to Halifax. The service was terrible. I asked the waitress if there was any sulphites in one of the drinks and I ordered Naan bread. She said rudely, change drink. I went up to the bar tender and he looked at me like I was a bother. I never felt so uncomfortable in a place before. We left without the Naan bread because she forgot to order it. Wow.
Food good but service is horrible. When you ask for something the waiter acts annoyed and he waits on others before he refills a drink or brings something you need. This guy is horrible as a server. I don't recommend this restaurant as they only have a few servers, it's very small and is a "hotel restaurant".
A simple breakfast (2 eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and toasts) is $18!!! Our waitress brings the coffee but nothing to stir with. Only reason to dine here is that it's attached to our hotel.
Our service was fairly slow, even when they didn't look to be that busy. Really the only negative of an otherwise excellent dining experience. Everything tasted great!
We went in after making a reservation on St. Patrick’s Day. Given it was a busier-than-usual day the service was a bit slow(understandable). The portion sizes were fine with the taste being above average. The fried chicken burger was fine although I wish it had one piece of fried chicken instead of few tiny ones as it would be easier to handle. The pasta and the black bean burger were a success and can be recommended for Vegetarian folks. Weirdly their fries were soft and not crunchy. The taste was fine though so not an issue. Highly recommend their Black Forest cake. The taste of Beep Brulee wasn’t something one of our friends expected but the staff was generous enough to replace her order for no extra charge. This was almost at their closing time(Appreciate this for sure). Their service is good and I’ll be sure to visit again someday to try rest of their menu.
I was staying at the Halifax Hotel so dinner here was the most convenient due to time constraints. Andy the bartender was amazing, he gave great recommendations, great service and conversation. Classic and timeless east coast hospitality.
Fantastic flavours great menu and very reasonable prices
2 drink maximum unless you order food? Are you kidding. I have never heard of that.
Food cooking quality needs to improve. Quantity is very good.
The flatbread and French onion soup were delicious. We were told that the salad dressing for the Caesar salad was from a bottle when it says on the menu that it s homemade. We also had a cherry pit in the cheesecake which could have been really bad. Also, there is a legend on the menu for vegetarian options, but the symbol for those options is not actually placed beside any meals or anything on the menu, so it s useless, so we had to ask what the options were, which weren t a lot.
Dietary restrictions: They indicated GF on the menu legend but there is nothing on the menu.. had to ask the waiter Food
Really good food. Good and friendly service. Update banana split black forest cake nachos
Located inside Hotel Halifax. They have happy hour specials. Drinks are reasonably priced and food is good and service was excellent.
When we booked our vacation here, we were very excited to see that they had some dairy-free options, as my wife has a dairy allergy. Unfortunately, between the booking and our trip, it looks like the vast majority of them were removed from the menu. Usually we can get by asking them not to use cheese or butter, but apparently both their hamburger buns and their multigrain toast contain milk for some reason. We also informed the server of her allergy ahead of time and were still served butter on toast - had my wife not double checked before eating, she would have been seriously ill. Will eat elsewhere for the rest of our trip as they clearly do not take allergens seriously here.
Bar tender is super nice and welcoming
Great food and cocktail of the day. Bartender was great and explained his delicious creation to us.
Spectacular martinis and really good food :)
They have a breakfast buffet on the weekend for 20 Dollars that is decent enough for us to walk from the habourfront Marriott that we were staying at and have breakfast there instead.
The breakfast buffet is amazing taste and value! Coffee is awesome and you can get a cup to go! 10/10. Will go again.
Anthony is amazing. Hes the Waiter if your planning to come here, make sure you ask for Anthony
Andy is awesome
The food was very good. Our hostess was excellent polite and friendly
Good choice of food, quality is as expected for a hotel restaurant, pricey of course as well. If its for vacation go for it, definitely not an everyday eating sort of place. But its well managed and staff are friendly!
We ended up here two nights in a row. The first night, we arrived too late and the kitchen had closed, but Anthony provided us with some amazing options for places that were still open, and helped us have an amazing first night in Halifax. The second night, we sat with Anthony again, and he provided excellent service. The food and atmosphere are great and have a nice broad selection for people of all tastes. Would absolutely recommend! Dietary restrictions: Im allergic to garlic, onions and peppers, they were more than happy to accommodate.
The food is reasonably priced and absolutely delicious with perfect portion sizes I had a harbour city burger with the best bacon jam I ve ever tasted! My husband had an equally delicious steak sandwich with house made chips. The chef Mohammad came out to talk to us after we told our waiter how much we loved the food. Mohammad graciously gave me the ingredients to his bacon jam! We can t wait to return to Halifax so we can eat here once again.
Nice restaurant in the Halifax hotel
The service is great. The food is delicious. I recommend coming to check it out.
While staying at Hotel Halifax, this place was our starting point every morning. Buffett or off the menu everything was great. Spacious inside and the service was top notch. Server we had for the first three days made us feel welcome and made sure we had everything we needed to start our day. Nice to have someplace downstairs from our room, being able to go back up and get ready to start our daily adventures.
Clean, friendly staff, good selection.... but for some reason there are very few people with such a location, service...
Great food and prices!
Very good place for breakfast or dinner
Relaxing atmosphere and comfortable seating. (They have small highchairs available too). They had a football game on the large TV at bar. Lovely servers. Had chicken wings and bruschetta YUMM! Kid-friendliness: High chairs. Large area so you dont need to sit close to the bar if you dont want to. Wheelchair accessibility: Large open concept, large tables you should be able to pull a wheelchair up to.
Hug portions and absolutely delicious food :)
Im a local person. My husband and I went to Barrington Hotel for a night without our teenagers! They suggested to go to Harbour city for supper. I saw the review and it was OK so we decided to give it a try. Samantha welcome us nicely and guessed immediately our need to have a discreet place. Ahmad was our waiter for the night: he was on top of everything and make sure that our experience was perfect! My husband took the burger and he was really happy! However, my steak and frites was sooo good! Master cooked, tender and juicy, charbroiled perfectly. A big thumbs up for the chef! We will definitely coming back and I will recommend that resto to our Air B n Bs guest.
Great Easter brunch buffet. Lots to eat and tasty as well. Needs more gluten free options, when asked, the chef steered me through it. Special thanks to the gluten free desert he brought out to me later.
Lovely staff - great food and drinks. Happy I booked my meetings here for my stay.
The fish tacos were wonderful as was the surf and turf. Other diners did not enjoy their meals.
Delicious food and good service
Fantastic food and service
Dietary restrictions: Notre nourriture à été super bonne, trouver un menu qui convenait était plus compliqué. Allergies au fruits de mer, donc tout ou quasiment tout en contient. La serveuse a été vraiment sympathique et très professionnelle
This isnt your ordinary hotel restaurant! Its actually fire, the fish and chips were perfection, reasonably priced and a huge portion. Staff were super friendly and sweet. Would definitely come here to enjoy some seafood while staying in Halifax without the tourist tax like at the waterfront.
Staff were friendly, helpful and contributed to a nice atmosphere in this restaurant. They also have happy hour with oysters!
First time here and food was staff was friendly. Would recommend
What a disgrace of a restaurant, No one will help
Went to meet my neice and had a grand time. Bartender was top notch Great service.
Mouth watering delicious dishes. Fantastic drink selection and a bartender that knows what hes doing!
When in Halifax, make the time to visit this hidden gem. The fish and chips are incredibly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The mussels are the best- thai coconut base broth. Come check it out
Staff was great. Andy (Bar tender) was very friendly and great to sit down and talk with.
The waiter was funny
Really awesome food!! And the servers are friendly.
The restaurant itself is very nice. The service was top notch. And the food, while the menu wasnt as big as I remembered, they had great food! Fish and chips was amazing. Also, as always, good local beer!
Ahmed was amazing, we went there in a small group the day before our wedding and he served us deftly, matched the energy of the table and felt like an old friend to us all. When he heard we were getting married he declared we were having shots and congratulations! We were staying at the Hotel Halifax so we caught him the next day on our way home and he said he had called our venue to check that we were having a great time and he had been thinking about how I said I was allergic to alcohol and some things I could try. Ive never felt that a server actually was invested in what we had to say before that day, but it really felt like he was genuinely celebrating with us even when we came by the next day. The food we had was good but the service was unmatched, well definitely be back to see Ahmed again!
It is only open from 7am-10am for breakfast
Great buffet selection. Service was a tad slow but overall an excellent value
I was skeptical of the quality of food we get at a hotel restaurant. Wow! I ordered the 10oz ribeye and it was phenomenal. It was cooked to perfection and the flavour was amazing. I can honestly say it s the best steak I ve ever had. The prices were quite reasonable as well. I recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Food is amazing service is great.
Always a great time! Fairly decent prices, nice atmosphere and very friendly staff make for an excellent experience. Kids under 5 eat free and staff are wonderful with the little ones. I think the only thing I would change is the location of the bathroom. Its a bit of a jaunt for the littles and a bit small if you have to bring a crew with you.
Great service...tough stringy steak...
Cool...
Very good
It was a lil dark
The food here is amazing! I love the power hour lunch menu
Nice hotel restaurant. Have been to several events here and always good. Burger week burger was excellent as they have been in the past. Very accomodating serving us lunch at 10am. Staff very friendly and attentive. Nice atmosphere and clean.
Really good food. Fun service.
Sure it must be nice, but never been in it.
Very good lunch specials.
Great service all around. Great cocktail menu and happy hour menu.
Consistently good food and service. Great variety
Amazing staff and a beautiful environment. The food was great!
The drink prices are absolutely outrageous. Food was mediocre.
Nice grills
Food is excellent, service is subpar!
Amazing Brunch! Friendly staff! Top notch Hotel Restaurant! Brian, the evening bartender/manager is awesome. Go see for yourself!
Stopped at the bar and met Brian the bartender. Best bartender in the world! He was so welcoming, warm and engaging! Thank you Brian for the best evening!
Only there once for breakfast, the buffet was not good. In the hour we were there the bacon tray and bread station was empty the whole time, the eggs tasted funky, and the french toast was like cardboard. Had to chase down a waiter to get a refill of orange juice, and at the end when paying wasnt even asked how everything was. Also a side of toast for my 2 year old was $6. Save your money and go to McDonalds in the mall, better food and service.
Service was excellent. Nice atmosphere and food was great
Excellent food and great service!
Food is about average for a hotel restaurant. Brunch staff is friendly but the service is incredibly slow. I waited 20 minutes to pay after I got my bill when the place was empty.
We stopped in for a late evening dinner after a day out in the city on the way back to our hotel. Our food was excellent, as well as the service. Would definately come back for another meal!
Unfortunately, the food and service completely missed the mark. Our server, although very nice, was responsible for our group of about 20, all alone. Drinks were delayed, bottles of wine were corked (uncorked but recorked and we had to remove), menu descriptions were wrong when asking, food (like halibut) that was on the website menu, were not on the menu. Generous portions of food, but the risotto bed for the haddock was way over garlicky and was a pretty mushy risotto, even for risotto. The haddock had a pea crust in a very unappetizing yellow colour and was dry. Our winter salad, when asking came with no greens and was to be a warm winter squash salad... it came heaped with greens and mine with barely any squash! Lots of confusion, but that could be because of only one server for the entire group... maybe one server for drinks and one for food? Cuisine and service improvements need to happen, and updating a menu online should be instant, especially these days. Sorry for the harsh review (not for our server), but you really must up your game, especially being in one of Halifaxs bigger hotels.
We dropped in today for their burger during Halifax Burger Week (lunch time). Overall, I found the service, food, and atmosphere quite nice. Our server (Shawn) was friendly and refreshingly prompt on everything from drinks to the food hitting the table. They have a pretty nice looking Power Lunch Hour menu that runs all week and, if I were in that area more often, I could see myself hitting it up regularly. Parking is nice since Scotia Square has a parkade. No meters or on street shenanigans to deal with.
Really nice fish and chips, thank you Shawn for the great and quick service, I was in a rush.
Wife and I went here for their breakfast buffet on a Saturday and it was phenomenal!! We found out that they extend their hours on it during the summer as we were afraid we were too late at first. The selection was awesome - lovely pastries, oatmeal, smoked salmon, bacon, sausages, quiches, waffles with maple syrup and much more!! They even had little smoothie shots which were delicious. The price was higher for buffet but very worth it - definitely check them out!!
Perfect location in the lobby of the Delta Hotel, good sea food, recommend the chowder and mussels yum.
Busy morning and the buffet was under served. Reasons from staff as to why this was the case did not match observations of patrons (eg staff said they are always replenishing the scrambled eggs and one patron told me that he has been waiting 20min for the eggs. When the eggs did come out, there was enough for 6 small portions - the brought the eggs out on a dinner plate and transferred them to the buffet) Food was average. Waffles were from a package and not made fresh. You may be better off ordering off the menu. Overall, the price you pay for the buffet if service were good, would be average for hotel breakfast. Based on my experience, it was not worth the cost.
Great place to grab a good local draft and a bite to eat. Chatty staff, great service, plenty of seating options.
Nice service and food
great food and great service!
Best chowder Ive ever had. Yum
Good quality food
Very nice place for dinner, I had my meeting there, food is amazing and staff are.freindly ,,, prices moderate
Good food, good staff
Visited here tonight with a group for work. The service was excellent, our server, Greg, was very knowledgeable, had great recommendations and was very personable. The majority of us, by Gregs suggestion, had the Chef Grill, which was a prime rib steak and scalloped potatoes. My god was it good. Steak tender enough to melt in your mouth, potatoes were perfect and all served beautifully. We order several appetizers for the table, and after a few wings and some nachos, I wished I could have lived in Halifax, only to have more! To top off the great service, the head chef for the evening came out, checked on us to see how we enjoyed supper, spoke with us and that little touch really made the night for us. Usually people dont think to try the in house restaurant when staying somewhere, but I know Ill be coming back here next time Im in the city, even if this isnt my hotel. I highly recommend this restaurant, and I cant praise the staff enough!
Great meals, great drinks, but the service is better than any other location in Halifax! Lunch specials are affordable and tasty!
The food was amazing and staff was superb. Steak was cooked to perfection, just the right amount of seasoning not over done. Great wine selection and the staff was very welcoming and engaged.
I was quite pleased with this restaurant situated on the bottom floor of the Delta Halifax - it was above expectations for a hotel bar. Food was standard pub far, and seemed reasonably priced - the Harbour City burger I had was quite good. Beer selection was good, but slightly pricier than Id like (8$+ for a draft IPA).
Please note the date of this review, because this is life and things change. The reason I can only give four stars on my score for the Harbour city Bar & grill is because Ive never had a five-start dining experience (and am unlikely to unless I marry a wealthy widow). However; I have had several four-star experiences and this was the best among them. I went to this in-hotel restaurant, because the menu looked interesting, it was close and I was tired. I checked the prices with nearby stand-alone restaurants and the costs were comparable. The wait staff were kind and easily engaged, something Id expect of a hotelier (but not always met). I ordered a liter of the house red because I hate not having enough wine with a meal and/or waiting for a refill for a glass. Also, Im too cheap to order labeled wine by the bottle. The wine was quite nice, would work with any dish, since it did not overwhelm the taste of the meal. The dinner started with an unexpected amuse-bouche that had a piquant after-taste that gave me an appreciation for the chefs ability to assemble a dish. For the main course, I had chili-marinated chicken breast with several vegetables on the side. I ate the vegetables first because cooked vegetables can soon loose their appeal. These veggies were steamed (I think) to perfection and had a bit of the chicken sauce to make them totally delicious. The chicken itself was excellent and the bit of skin left with the chicken had a suburb flavor. For desert I had a locally-invented dish, named for a small town on the opposite side of Canada. The presentation was phenomenal and the slightly coconut-flavored coating over the ice cream and chocolate was very-very nicely balanced. So my suggestion is, if your are in the harbor district of Halifax and are looking for a great place to have a meal, look no farther than the Harbour City Bar and Grill at the Delta Halifax hotel.
