ORSO Pub & Grill in Halifax

Thought wed try out this place. Music was uncomfortably loud, over priced mediocre food, waitress was pleasant though. Not returning.

Convenient location before a concert but thats about it. Arrive earlier before a concert or sporting event and go elsewhere.

Was trying to go get a snack and food hours said it was open until 11pm but I passed by at 10pm and it was closed

If youre looking for some pepperoni with your pizza, youre currently out of luck at this restaurant. Apparently they no longer carry pepperoni as a result of a menu upgrade from May 2024. Ive never heard of a restaurant that sells pizza and doesnt have pepperoni as a topping option, but hey you learn something new every day. Otherwise an OK experience.

Long wait every time

Sign said they closed at 11pm. Went inside and was told they close at 10. When questioned why the sign said 11, we were told that because they are not busy, they were closing early.

We arrived on Friday 23rd for a 6:15 reservation a little late at 6:25. Our table had been given away. We were lectured that they had a 15 min grace period - note we were 10 minutes late and the people at our table were already seated with drinks (it was busy and the drinks took at least 10-15 mins to come up so they were clearly seated well ahead of our reservation time). So when I complained I was instantly chided and told to calm down. It was not due to us being late but rather an error they were unwilling to take responsibility for. Whomever was managing the shift tonight needs a lesson in customer service. A simple appology rather than a lecture would have been appreciated.

The reviews are completely inaccurate. They charged us for things that werent even on the menu (sauce on wings). Since when is sauce extra for chicken wings?? Very expensive for quality of food.

Stopped in for a meal while staying in the area overnight and I am glad I did. The food was delicious and service was excellent. Drinks were good as well. While it was fairly quiet while we were there this place has plenty of dining area and in a great spot. Stop in for a quick meal of dinner while out on the town youll be glad you did. I had a delightful time at Orso this evening with my spouse and some friends. I want to particularly shout out our server, whose name I didnt get but who wore winged eye makeup and had several tattoos down her left arm. She was a delight, first being patient with us as traffic made half our party nearly an hour late. Then, when multiple issues in the kitchen caused some of our food to be delayed, she was friendly and funny and comped us appropriately. She made sure our drinks were kept up throughout the visit. Excellent service. The food was also quality pub fare. The fries were nice and crispy without losing the potato texture inside. The chicken tenders were well-seasoned. The wings were juicy and crunchy where they should be, tasted very good. My spouse loved their jalapeno-forward Calabrese pizza. Winners all around. Absolutely would go again, and would heartily recommend for people who want to eat in the vicinity of the MetroCentre.

Five of us arrived shortly after 5 pm for a meal, on our way to Circ de Soliel, which started at 7 pm. The restaurant was full and the server took our drink orders right away. She returned with our drinks immediately then took our food order at about 5:20. Around 6 she returned, asking us if we want more drinks. It was 630 when she returned once more asking again about drinks but we insisted we wanted our food. She then checked and apologized for the wait but said she would comp our meals due to the wait, which was over an hour at this point. At 645 she finally brought the food so we all tried to eat as quick as possible. She then came back and told us that we had to actually pay for our meals... We were so frustrated and in such a hurry we didnt bother disputing and just paid and left. We will never be back and will never recommend this place to anyone.

Food was decent - got the Orso burger with fries. The burger had a nice sweet bbq sauce and the fries were nice and crispy. Others in our party also enjoyed their food. The staff was friendly.

Food was good. We had a larger party and the server did not write down our orders initially. We waited for 40 minutes to have our six bills sorted correctly and due to being a larger party we had an automatic 18 percent gratuity fee. Poor experience overall.

My experience at Orso Pub and Grill was truly exceptional. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, setting the stage for a fantastic dining experience. I indulged in their unique guacamole stuffed onion rings, which were a delicious twist on a classic appetizer. The chicken and steak quesadillas were cooked to perfection, bursting with flavor and served with fresh ingredients. Good location and nice service, but the food wasn t great.

Had nachos, guacamole stuffed onion rings, club house and bacon cheese burger. Guacamole stuffed onion rings could have used more flavor as they were bland. Nachos were a bit skimpy on the cheese. Burger and club house were delicious! Service was excellent. Highly recommend they invest in windows shades as the sun is blinding when its setting and is right in your face.

Overall the food was amazing. Although we had reservations we waited 30 minutes to get served. I m not sure if this was a staffing issue. But we advised the Waite staff we were ready multiple times. We then waited another twenty minutes for our bill after asking for it twice. But again the food was incredible.

Kinda an odd layout for a pub, got cold everytime the door opened, food was not great, I had a pizza, service was good, inwould. go back to have a beer, but nit for dinner

Chicken Alfredo fettuccine - term al dente meaning you suppose to feel a bit between your teeth. This one was raw, sauce was good but chef was in a hurry to serve the dish...I will not come back here! Update: After 25 min i throw up everything, chicken meat was wrong also. Honestly, whats wrong with you to serve bad food??????

Got the spicy chicken burger and it reminded me of a janes chicken patty, thin as paper really bad especially for the price of almost $20. Our friends got the orso burgers and honestly nothing special way better burgers at other restaurants downtown. Not good value for your money go somewhere else.

Service was fine, food was decent but not the best, atmosphere was very laid back. Server was in sweatpants and sitting at the bar on their phone. Entree prices a bit much for the quality.

My biggest gripe is the high cost of the meals. At least offer some kind of daily special at a cheaper price...

Beer tasted like soap

The fish and chips are the best I have ever had. Huge portions. Actually had twice in a row on separate nights the manager and staff were so friendly !!!

Visited here for the first time recently in a group of 6, and everyone enjoyed their meals and drinks. Will definitely be going back.

Severely overpriced food and terrible service! It took an hour for us (a table of 2) to get 2 burgers. Our server didnt check in with us once - not to refill our drinks or ask how our meal was. Food was about what you could get at any fastfood place. Save the time and money and just go to Wendys. The service there is probably better anyways!

Went here for the first time last night after hearing good things.... sadly I can not say the same. In my overall 4 item order I only enjoyed 1 item. After it was expressed finding each item poor in quality (after the first couple bites/drinks) nothing was done. Then after asking again if there was anything to be done about the displeasure in 80% of my meal when receiving bills, I was told no. Way too expensive for the quality and quantity of food/beverage, and service appeared to be low quality/untrained as well (2 hours for total service of 1 meal during a not busy restaurant).

Not worth it. Fishermans pasta had no salmon or haddock as advertised, and only 2 mussels and 3 shrimp. If salmon or haddock couldnt be added Id understand but would expect a bit more of the other 2 for a $33 pasta

Empty on a Wednesday night of hockey, i should have gotten elsewhere. The fish N chip was not worthy of Halifax. Super dry and hard, the sauce tasted like store bought, and the coleslaw was tasteless. Staff is very nice tho.

I had an amazing meal at Orso Pub and Grill! The Meat Lover Pizza appetizer was absolutely mouthwatering, loaded with savory meats and gooey cheese. The Shrimp Cajun Linguine main course had a fantastic kick of flavor, with perfectly cooked shrimp and a delicious Cajun sauce. And lets talk about the Chocolate Lava Cake for dessert - it was pure indulgence! Rich, gooey, and oh-so-chocolatey. I left Orso Pub and Grill with a happy belly and a big smile. Cant wait to go back for more deliciousness!

So let me say I really want to like this restaurant. Great spot, good vibe and very convenient for eats/drinks prior to an event at Scotiabank Center. We went before a concert, were advised of a long wait which ended up being less than 10 minutes - Bonus! The food was below par with many comparable restos. Seafood chowder for $19.50 for a small bowl (Probably 1.5 cups) was poor in general. Our daughter left over half of it there and was hungry and loves seafood chowder. Calamari was tough and rubbery - the dip with it was good. The Club and Chicken sandwich were nothing special, served with small portions of fries. We asked the server about the chicken fingers and the fish and chips before ordering as options and she indicated they were hit and miss and often had complaints about them. I appreciate her honesty. The staff was hustling, the menu has good variety. For a meal with a pop, 2 beer and a calamari appie $145 with tip is a bit out of hand when I consider the quality. I could have went to the Keg for $50 more and had an outstanding experience. I think they may be leveraging their location a bit too much. The place has potential but it needs some TLC on the food quality/value side of things. I might give it another chance in a few months to see if anything has changed. I realize restaurants are are still trying to recover from pandemic challenges - hopefully its on the rebound.

Was here for supper before a show at the Metro Centre, had a reseveration made and our party arrived well before many of the other reservations but we still got the least ideal table in the place. Right next to the kitchen, I had servers bumping into my chair the whole time. I was pretty sure someone was going to drop something on me. Luckily they didnt. The food was fine, nothing special. The beer selection was mediocre. The service was non existent after our food. We placed an order for two pitchers and then didnt see our server for 25 minutes. One of us had to go find her, she was seemingly avoiding our side of the restaurant. She claimed to be pouring the pitchers, we said no, give us the bill. We went down to 2 Crows, where the service was much more prompt and friendly, and better/cheaper beer! I know it was a busy night, but there were a lot of people working, and it shouldve been anticipated. Servers need sections, not tables spread all over the restaurant. Its unlikely Ill go back here.

A good local pub to spend a friday night with your friends. Not so expensive.

Great resuraunt. I had the seafood chowder, full of seafood. It was really good. My girlfriend had the pan-fried halibut. Perfectly cooked. Our server was friendly and checked in with us often. The prices we quite reasonable. Great little resuraunt.

We had an amazing experience at Orso. Great vibe, amazing food and great quantity too ! We went around 5 in the evening on Monday and the guy who served us was really sweet and friendly. He was so helpful and professional. Great service and we had a great time !!

There was only one person manning the bar and taking food orders. He had no help. I gave 10% tip for the food and 0% for service. Hope this place gets more help.

Best deep fried fish and chips in Halifax.

Before game yesterday stop by for some appetizers and drinks had a wonderfull time. The food was delicious and drinks were amazing.The service was top notch and katelyn did great service.

food is fairly priced for the amount given. waiters and waitresses are kind and polite. service is fast even if there is an event that causes the restaurant to fill up completely. I have tried most of the menu as is quite tasty.

Nothing bad to say about this place. Easy to make online reservations, we only ordered appetizers and the portions were great. Cocktails were delicious (chocolate raspberry martini). Nice atmosphere not too loud to talk with the folks at your table. Staff were attentive, knowledgeable and pleasant. We will return when in the city next

Excellent food with properly done tartar sauce for fish and chips- with vinegar not sugar! My son had the Orso burger with spicy garlic potatoes which was a great choice. Friendly and helpful wait staff, and a very nice accessible washroom. Music was a little loud but not overbearing. Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp entrance at grade and very good accessible bathroom.

Ok so lets start with food .. Tasteless food, green chutney doesnt have salt, onions rings were worst and, moreover, you dont have so much choices. They get close on 10 pm and after that, you cant order and sit in the restaurant, although they are open for online orders till 12am- 1 am. I am not sure what type of business model they are following where they are not capable of treating in person.

Came on a Saturday evening, was busy but service was good and the food was good too. Recommend the seafood chowder. Was a bit loud so not a spot for quiet conversation but handy to grab food before a Moosehead game.

I was excited to try this place after seeing it on Barrington many times and we finally got to go! At first I thought it was closed for a staff meeting since there was only 1 other group inside at 6pm on Saturday night.. which I thoughts was strange. Our French accent waitress was nice! But the decor was not.. it was dated and tacky with bear canvas. The food also was tasteless and not very good.. I never finished my grilled chicken burger nor did my husband with his Orso burger. So disappointed because the prices were higher than expected so we paid quite a bit for our meal.

Convenient spot when you are going to the Mooseheads or Thunderbirds game for sure. Good staff, good beverages. Food was not great. Could have been an off night though.

Horrible service. Ordered 2 traditional burgers with cheese no onion and after 45 minutes received one burger and one pizza with cheese no onion. No apology giving and told that s what I ordered and was asked to wait another 45 minutes, will never return.

We came in for a friends birthday and we waited 10 minutes to get seated when we had a reservation. The restaurant was not very busy either but I m assuming tonight was understaffed. The bathrooms were a complete catastrophe. The reason I rated this the way I did is because the food was amazing and our waitress liah was amazing. We could clearly see she was running around like crazy making sure everyone got the best service that she was able to provide with what seemed like really bad circumstances for the evening. Yes we waited a long time for food and drinks but I would go back due to the amazing food and service by our waitress.

AUS Basketball Championship weekend led myself and friends to Orso Pub, for supper, as it was across the street from ScotiaBank Centre. We were seated and drink order taken immediately, as every table was on the same supper break. Staff was very efficient and answered all our food related questions and didnt make us feel rushed. We ordered a variety of dishes to share and everything was perfectly cooked and tasty! Unfortunately, my memory does not recall our exact meal but everything was great. A visit to Orso is on my list for my next Halifax visit. Check our their menu, you wont be disappointed!

Very friendly staff. The food is overpriced. My friend had severe heart burn from the food - meaning the oil was not hot enough. Considering the price category I would not recommend this place.

Great atmosphere. Service was fast and polite. First time dining. I enjoyed the different menu options and chose a few staples. Food was well prepared and delisous. It was a bit dusty in places but I can hardly subtract a star for that. Overall wonderful experience.

The location is great if you are going to something at the Scotiabank Center. Dining room is nice and clean and well furnished. The service was great and meals were ready much faster than I expected. The one problem was that the music was blaring so loud it was difficult to talk to my friends. Loud music later in the evening is fine but makes being social difficult. We left early so we could visit before the concert.

Such a shame! Just moved down the street. We stopped in for lunch, place was empty at noon on a fri.....we ordered wings( the only thing that was good) and mussels. The mussels tasted and looked like they were boiled in tomato soup. Our mains were chicken parm burger and steak sandwich. Chicken parm flavorless and over cooked. Served next to frozen McCain fries. The steak sandwich was so sweet you could not even taste how overcooked the steak was. Gross! A table of 3 walked in right after us....poor them!

I will not be back. It took 50 minutes to get a beer, and when we got food finally it tasted like chemicals. I tracked it down to the bacon, which did not taste like bacon. The service was terrible and the food was over priced. Dont bother

Hey we went there for Sunday lunch, i mean the ambiance is really good, the food is really good, the location is really good, but unfortunately the customer service is not very good!! I mean we were still eating and one of the waitress came and asked us if we are done ,she was in a rush to take the dishes away as soon as she can although we were still eating., We asked her for napkins , she did bring it to is but throwed on the table rather than keeping it on the table. she might have a bad day and dont wanna see us there. I mean we really don t appreciate this kind of behaviour. I still tip her 2.50$ For her customer service, although a small amount but! Other than that the food was really good.

Went there a little while ago but forgot to leave a rating. The food was really bad, pretty much everything but the garlic fingers were freezer burned. Not exactly ideal when getting overcharged for a steak that wad overcooked and chewy. The vegetables were soggy and the mashed potatoes tasted like they came out of a box. The worst part was they charged us $6 per glass of watery iced down brisk lemonade. Worst dining experience Ive ever had. The service was okay.

I am a 12 year old boy who loves mock tails! I love to make them and invent them. I ordered a virgin strawberry basil mojito, when I say this I really mean it, this was the BEST drink I ve ever had! It was amazing! I went and I thanked the bartender and she told me some tips and tricks about bartending! The service was amazing and I had a beautiful time! Thank you so much for this awesome experience!

Don t order take-out from them. I had a good experience dine-in the other night. Decided to order delivery on Uber eat tonight. It was a bad idea. The seafood chowder portion was sad, and chowder itself tasted super salty and burnt. The chicken quesadilla didn t come with the sauce it should have, and had straight chicken bones in it. Dine-in again? Maybe. Take-out? Never.

Ordered bacon cheeseburger. It was bland but well cooked, nice and hot. The fries were great though. I didnt feel I got my moneys worth +$30 for those two items (including taxes and tip) . Kitchen was really slow as it took over half an hour to get our food. It was loud and the music was also loud and geared to the clubbing crowd. thumping music between 5:30 and 7 is not great for atmosphere. I wont recommend it but I wouldnt turn anyone away who wanted to try it. Bathroom was nice and clean. Our waitress was excellent.

Our order arrived extremely fast and was delicious! They have a great varied menu, and something for everyone. We will definitely be coming back here.

My boyfriend and I went to Orso last night as part of our date night. I had never been and he was very excited to take me as he hadnt been in awhile and he liked it the last time he went. Our server was lovely and our drinks came in a timely manner for how busy it was. It all went downhill with the food. I ordered the spicy chicken burger and the orso potatoes. Potatoes had zero salt on them and were incredibly bland and my chicken burger was served on a stale bun. Like, rock solid, hockey puck of a bun. I asked the waitress to tell kitchen to just toss is in a fresh bun and it took over 10 mins to get back to me at which point my chicken was cold. Left hungry.

My wife and I stumbled upon this pub while out for a walk and decided to so in. We both ordered a tall ship ale and a spinach salad from the sweet, university age server. She brought our drinks and our salad shortly after. The pub has a great atmosphere with a bear theme. The salad presentation was great as was the taste. Washed down with a great ale, this was a nice lunch. When we are on the city again, my wife and I would like to visit Orso again. {I hope we have the same, wonderful server.}

Don t order takeout chowder. Very small portion for $18 a bowl. Not worth it. Soup was ok but def flour in base only a few pieces of seafood and it s like we got a ladle and a half of soup per bowl, just an inch and a half of soup in big takeout bowl so imagine $80 for three bowls of soup with a tiny half piece of garlic bread. Complained via Uber eats but no answer. Spinach salad was really good. Only reason to give above one star.

The only thing I dont like about Orso is that the music is usually a bit too loud. Otherwise, its a decent place to grab a drink and a bite.

Food is good quesadillas are yummy. Easy to eat and just pop right into the Metro Center. Servers and host were awesome. The host actually told my husband that they were full. As we were leaving he came running after us to tell us that a table just opened up. Over and above! Thanks!

I had the Orso burger. The home-made BBQ sauce was good but the burger patty was disgusting. It was rubbery, hard, and tasted like some second rate frozen grocery store burger patty form the freezer section. I was with a group for lunch so I didnt want to complain. For a pub this should be a safe choice and not worth the $18 price at all. Very disappointed with the food. Atmosphere and staff nice.

Ordered delivery. Received shrimp tails in my chowder as well as bones. But that wasn t the worst I actually spit it out because it tasted like sour milk and flour. I called to tell them not only was it dangerous to eat fish bones but that it might be bad (incase someone else ordered) his exact words: it s fine, and we re not sending out another order of it I m sorry sir but I wouldn t feed this to an animal let alone want more of it. Classy. Won t eat here again.

The food was delicious here with large portion sizes! My partner had the quesadilla which was unreal, and I had the Fishermans pasta which was also delicious! Will definitely be back again!

Great patio to have drinks after work since it gets direct sun, unlike the other places a couple streets down. They have propeller on tap, so that s a bonus. We ordered the burger and nachos with the expectation of average food, so they did not disappoint on delivering a pedestrian level food experience.

Unfortunately, we didnt have the best experience here tonight as food wasnt what we expected. Chicken on the Greek Salad was cold, dry, smelly and definitely was leftover from lunch or last night dinner. I assume if you order either side salad or 10oz Steak at any restaurant, youd deserve a fresh food specially if they charge you 5 bucks on a $8 side salad. Shrimps on Pasta were a bit smelly (not like other fresh shrimps weve had so far in Halifax). Also, the Pasta sauce was too much that penne pieces needed to be found in the sauce pool. The waitress was nice though

We had a great experience at Orso! The nachos were the best weve ever had and we polished them off in no time. We both ordered the Orso Burger and couldnt stop talking about how amazing it tasted. Their homemade BBQ sauce is to die for. Fries were excellent and crispy. The service was 10/10 as well! I didnt get our servers name, but she checked on us throughout the meal to make sure we were ok, but she wasnt overbearing. We will definitely be back, as this was an amazing first experience!

We arrived as a group of 10 on a Friday evening. We were one of 2 tables and received subpar service. The waitress was very short and almost annoyed at our table. Our food came out at all different times, omitting some of the orders. I got the wrong order but the next time the waitress arrived at the table she had our bills . We were a quite groups of adults and we were very confused at the situation.

Great food, it never disappoints The staff are friendly and the location is great. Right next to the Scotiabank Center, easy to get a bite to eat then head over for a hockey game or concert.

I havent eaten here - but when I was in an absolutely dire situation, the staff did me a solid and let me use their washroom. Ill be coming back to try the food - but know that the staff is friendly, and wonderful people.

I used to love this place. They have delicious steaks. But tonight a Indian/Middle eastern face server was very rude! The food I ordered was 10oz NY steak as before, I complained about the wried smell and texture, she said she will talk to the chef but she didn t, and trying to push us to pay the bill and drive us away. Thank you for your cold face. Never come again

ORSO was just, well, a poor experience. The food is pricey, but doesn t really deliver. The salad was stale, with unremarkable dressing. Quesadillas were pretty much Costco ingredients thrown together rather than freshly made tortillas or filling. I d hesitate to recommend this place. Good service though, but unremarkable otherwise. Visit at the peril of your wallet and satisfaction.

One of the best burgers Ive had in the city. Was a great place to eat with a lot of drink choices. Wish they had more local beers on tap.

Staff: 5/5 Food: 3/5 The staff here have been consistently excellent but you need to understand what to expect in terms of food. Its mid-quality cheap pub food which is probably a bit less than youre expecting from the décor and pricing. The pizza and quesadillas have stood out as quite good. Im 90% sure the fries are McCain SureCrisps (which arent bad, just understand youre probably getting frozen fries). As of 2021 the kitchen has been majorly overcooking some items. Ive given up on ordering chicken sandwiches or burgers because theyve both been destroyed and dried out by overcooking. Their hot chicken sandwich was also not hot. And not in a this isnt that spicy way, but in a there is literally not even a hint of spice in this way.

The location next to the Scotiabank Centre combined with their excellent online reservation service makes this pub a very convenient stopping place for a meal and pint before taking in a game or concert. After three visits I can say that their food and service are consistently good and the overall cleanliness is excellent.
