With six locations across Atlantic Canada, Gahan House has become an East Coast staple dedicated to creating memorable experiences. We began as a brewpub, and we stay true to our beginnings by having a brew system in-house, ensuring that the beer we serve is as fresh as possible. With a delicious menu, handcrafted ales, and fresh East Coast oysters in our welcoming Gahan atmosphere, you will feel right at home.
Great seafood. Had the fish and chips and loved it. Also some very good unique drinks on the menu that were delicious. Service was a bit slack. Someone took my cutlery by accident and said they'd come back with a replacement but never came back. After trying to eat my fish and chips with my hands for 10 min, we had to ask a different server for cutlery. Still had a good time and dinner though.
Saw the reviews for the chowder and it did not disappoint! The portion was larger than I expected and it was really good. The bun was a nice touch. The oysters were great as well mixed with their signature sauces.
Great spot for a casual outing! Their $6 beer deal before 6pm is a steal. The food is average but enjoyable, and the service is friendly. Perfect for a laid-back hangout.
Stopped in for a quick one (great deal for two beers and some oysters). Fun spot. Lively crowd. Would go back for sure.
Best Seafood Chowder! We had seafood chowder every day at different restaurants and this one topped them all with presentation, flavour, body etc. The Lobster Mac and Cheese was also amazing! There was a young musician playing who was also great. Not too loud. Good tunes. Would definitely go back!
Absolutely loved Gahan House. Was there for a bachelorette party dinner and the server was great, very attentive and got all orders and bills right. Food and drinks were great! I had the Cajun Caesar Salad and the White Sangria and would highly recommend both. Also tried some fries and they were delicious! I will be going back!
Went before 5pm for $6 pints and everything we tried was delicious and ice cold. I had the chowder and it is definitely a top 3 chowder in the area. Would highly recommend checking them out!
Recently had the privilege of dining at this restaurant for the first time since they relocated from the waterfront location, and the experience was just as I remembered! It is perfectly located in the downtown area in walking distance to the waterfront and other places. Theres street parking available as well as tons of parking garages that are pretty affordable For starters, we were warmly greeted from the time we enters until our departure. Our waitress, Kennedy was exceptional. She was patient with us despite us being undecided about what we wanted. She took the time to walk us through the menu and even made recommendations based on our desires. She was knowledgeable of the menu items and made great recommendations. We started out with the seafood chowder, the haddock tacos and the croquettes. Everything was beautifully plated and perfectly seasoned. It really opened our stomachs up for the amazing experience we were about to enjoy. Then we opted for sandwiches. I had the signature burger and my partner had the beef sandwich. We were a little disappointed that the beef sandwich was open faced, but nonetheless they both were delicious. I especially loved that attention to detail that Kennedy took. At a point in the night, we had a bit of an issue, but she was quick in attending to it and quickly accommodated our concerns. She went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and that we enjoyed our experience. She continuously checked in on us and was so professional the entire time. Thank you so much “Kennedy (like the President)” for making our visit exceptional. You are by far one of the greatest waitresses I’ve ever experienced and your customer service was second to none. Please keep up the amazing job!!
Gahan house is a great spot if you re looking for tasty pub food and great beer. Good place to bring kids too as well, lots for them to look at plus kids menu and crayons
Had a wonderful time at our companys 25th anniversary gathering at the restaurant. Finger foods were excellent !
Really like the atmosphere and location. Food is good, but several visits resulted in slow service.
Great pub that shows sports. Really good food and craft beer. Food
Shout out to Claire, our server, and to the kitchen staff for the little extra service they provided to me during our dinner. It was busy, but you didn t seem to mind making our experience enjoyable. Great job and the food was delicious!
I visited Gahan House earlier tonight to celebrate my wife s birthday dinner. Since it was a weekday, we didn t make a reservation, but we called ahead to confirm whether one would be necessary. The staff assured us it wouldn t be a problem to walk in, so we decided to give it a try. Upon arrival, the restaurant had a nice atmosphere, and the server seemed friendly at first. We ordered one appetizer (fish cakes) and two main courses. Unfortunately, the fish cakes were overwhelmingly salty so salty, in fact, that we couldn t even finish a bite. We brought this to the attention of our server, who seemed rather dismissive about it. She insisted that the dish was not up-to our taste . We explained that it was simply too salty to eat, but she appeared rather confused, and reluctantly brought us the menu to consider ordering something else. We decided to switch our order, but unfortunately, the rest of the meal was just average, especially considering the prices. We were left feeling disappointed by the overall experience. When we paid the bill, the server continued to mention that we didn t like the taste of the fish cakes, but never acknowledged that they were, in fact, overly salty. This made the situation feel awkward and uncomfortable. As food enthusiasts, we ve dined at many restaurants and rarely return food unless it was absolutely necessary. However, the fish cakes were simply inedible, and we felt we had no choice but to send them back. Sadly, this experience was unanticipated especially given that it was my wife s birthday dinner.
very slow. I am uber driver and always have to wait there for 10-20 min. they should respect drivers time.
Fantastic experience and lovely food. We had the best server! Highly recommend
came here with a group as gluten and dairy free they had a whole menu to choose from!! And the carrot cake was to die for! Such excellent service I had to come back for a full brunch and more cake lol
Classic pub environment. Music not too loud, hockey games on TV. Came here for the chowder and it was not bad. Definitely more like seafood soup vs thick chowder but the mussels were thick and juicy. Scallops were more like freezer nuggets. That said - food came out hot and portions are large and filling. Service was friendly and nice but ok. Had to ask for utensils twice, the second being a spoon for the soup. Beer was great Would come again and can recommend, but keep your expectations in check.
Great food and some fantastic beer. Highly recommend their raspberry jam beer. Location is in the heart of downtown, and the interior is modern and stylish. Service was friendly and willing to go above and beyond. Parking: Paid parking garage is located by the Sutton Place Hotel.
Great location and food was excellent. I was hoping to see more Korean BBQ on the menu
Loved it . Our first time and service was great went for lunch and had a flight of beers to start and the pulled pork nachos. Great spot and lots of tvs for sports lovers. Definitely go back
It s very disrespectful and extremely rude to automatically add the Tip in customers receipts, never again, I am already spreading this around and others agrees with this.
Food was good, alright portion size. Waiter basically avoided our table and we ended up having two who didnt communicate with each other. We had to remind them about a few of the STARTER drinks (ended up that they only got one drink because they didnt want to wait for another to possibly be forgotten). The initial waiter tried to do the separate bills and messed them up because there wasnt any communication between them and the other waitress. Just seems very unorganized.
The bartender made me a grapefruit radler. It was delicious.
We had a party of 15+. Service was exceptional. The back room was perfect.
Staff was friendly and quick, food tasted delicious
Seafood Chowder was good!
Pan fried haddock is my thing . I ve had it at a dozen restaurants here in Halifax over the past 2 years. Gahan s was, without reserve, the worst pan fries had I m I ve ever had. Crunchy hard on the ends, dry throughout. I didn t eat it, told the waitress, she offered me another piece. (After the rest of the table had finished their meals). So didn t take the offer. No consideration to adjust the price Serving staff were very disengaged but that s another discussion.
Dropped in for a drink. Good selections of craft beers...sat at the bar service was slow despite not being very busy.
So yummy, great for a large or small group!
The service was spectacular. Everyone was kind and happy to serve. The food was good. But we only had the fancy fries which were okay as we have heard many many stories of people getting food poisoning so we stayed away from anything with meat. The wash room appeared clean minus all the water and paper towel thrown about (disrespectful customers) the hand soap and the tap were manual which was gross instead of automatic. The hand soap was highly scented and smelt like flowers. It smelt great but if you are scent sensitive steer clear. The handicap button in the washroom to get out didn t work so if you need help opening the door you would be stuck. There was no help button. Other than that the staff were hard working and kind. We had the white sangria pitcher it was amazing. The atmosphere was okay. They music was a little on the louder side. Especially in the bathroom it gave me a headache. Also the music it self was not good. I am not picky when it comes to music but this was all weird DJ edits and it just wasn t it. Staff was great tho.
Pleasant atmosphere with attentive service
Was there for a group gathering after a wedding. The staff seemed rather cold and like they didnt want to be there. Some food was cold (not everyones but some were). Having had a great experience at the Gahan in PEI, was disappointed in this one.
Service was A+ Good food and drinks Food
Staff and only staff circled in and out of there The Argyle Room like they were having their own little party. While keeping costumes waiting. Never again. What a waste of time and our money. I feel sorry for the owner. So disappointed.
Right from the get go hostess was rude and not welcoming. Our server was scattered and kept disappearing into the Argle Room. Not sure what happens in there. There was no manager on site to voice our opinion to. So here we are. Very disappointed
Bic stuffed my big pumpkin head into a thick and steamy vat of her best chowder and made me eat my way out.
Large beer selection and good food
Good food , service is great and nice vibes
Had the worst food experience there. I spent $22 there before tax and tip in order to get chicken tenders and fries, but instead of fries I chose lemon and cilantro rice. However, when it came back, it was the thinnest piece of chicken coated in lots of batter and there were only three chicken tenders and just a cup of plain rice with a lemon wedge. totally not worth it after that I went to KFC and spent $20 and got four chicken tenders with hefty chicken on it for dark pieces of meat with bone as side of corn and another side of macaroni. Also got tons of fries with it and two different dipping sauces and I didn t even tip there so I guess the math is clear $23 plus tax plus tip for unreasonable meal $20 feat.
Went here today for lunch and unfortunately it was not a good experience ..service was poor and did not receive the lemonade I asked for
Great atmosphere and even better service. Awesome stop after a Wanderers game for a few beer and a tasty meal, on the patio!
Love Gahan House. Great food and service. Very consistent
I loved it! I discovered Gahan House through Charlottetown (IPE) and it s a great place! Good beers. A small menu but something for all tastes. The quality is always there!
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Gahan Restaurant, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience. The outdoor area is simply lovely, providing a charming and relaxed atmosphere that made our meal all the more enjoyable. The food was outstanding both the taco and the burger were absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection with fresh ingredients that truly made a difference. I also loved that they offer their own exclusive beer, which added a unique touch to the dining experience. If youre looking for a great meal in a beautiful setting, Gahan Restaurant is definitely worth a visit!
Our visit to Gahan House offered us an affordable dining experience with decent food. The standout was the tasty lobster roll, which was flavorful and well-prepared. However, the fish dish had a bit too much flour, which detracted from its overall appeal. Despite this, the experience was fine overall. The prices were reasonable, making it a good option for those looking for a budget-friendly meal. While there are areas for improvement, particularly with the fish, Gohan House provides a satisfactory dining experience that is worth trying, especially for the lobster roll.
Very delicious beer. The delicious fish cakes. Same with the chowder (a little salty for me), large portions. I sat at the bar counter. The bartender very attentive and friendly.
First time there. Sadly the food wasn t great. The clams were so salty and lots of coating with no clam even in it. We don t like to complain but will give an honest opinion. I will say we both loved the fresh salsa that came with the nachos. Mussels were tiny but they did remove from our bill so that was greatly appreciated. I had higher expectations I guess.
Great food, good service.. atmosphere is nice
Incredible service, the atmosphere is perfect with live music and great for work dinner events! Thanks
the tables for groups are bar height which are not comfortable. the servings are small for the price and its just basic bar grub nothing spectacular. if you order the chicken n chips its just 3 small chicken strips, like a kids meal.
$19.00 for 6 pieces of cauliflower is wild.
After waiting over an hour for food and not counting the 20 mins to even have someone come say hello ended up being late for the show Thursday , I can say I won t be back . I didn t get to eat as there was a hair in the macaroni and The grilled cheese lobster sandwich was bread with cold cheese , the waitress was Pleasant .
The beer was excellent
Open atmosphere, good food, and drink specials before 5pm.
Server was excellent, was friendly and had a great knowledge on drink. Food hit the spot and the flights were good. Decent atmosphere as well. We had a flickering light over our table and it was distracting so I took one star off because of that. Overall good experience.
Amazing they accommodated our group of 11 as a walk in and we ok. Quick service especially as we had young ones with us and food was great. Kids portions were a little small but priced well so no real complaint there. Good lobster roll! Dietary restrictions: Met our needs with care, gluten free menu was so helpful Kid-friendliness: We had a two year old with us and accommodated us well and with grace
Ordered whiskey sours for the evening and they were the tastiest and cutest! 10/10
I enjoyed the Gahan House, but like most really-downtown restaurants, its a bit overpriced. The food is amazing, to be sure, and its right around the corner from big venues. Cool atmosphere and excellent service, as well.
Fried chicken Sando was
We had our 20th anniversary at Gahan House last night. We had the most wonderful host/ server named Tanner. The atmosphere was friendly, warm and welcoming. Gahan House was beautiful location, Amazing staff, especially Tanner . Food was awesome, had pan fried haddock. Nachos for appetizer and oysters for the table.. ( yum) Coconut curry was also served.. generous portion.. entire evening was wonderful
Horrible, horrible horrible experience It would be really nice if someone called me because the manager last night could care less or the server. Lisa Craft
The reservation of the private room, to the service we received, and the great food and drinks, highly recommend! Call Billy!
Friendly people amazing food
Ridiculous. Wouldn t serve my friends water.. WATER, because I didn t have my ID they had theirs. So, shouldn t have been an issue. First Lady didn t tell me to leave; but second did. They never got their water. On top of all of this, we seen a mouse.
The atmosphere is pleasant and the service is very good. The food was good.
Great food, great service!
This is usually my fav restaurant but I was disappointed that they got rid of the tuna tartare which has always been my favourite menu item . The fried chicken was also my next favourite but this time it was soggy and is normally very crunchy. Went downhill since last time I was there.
Best Caesar salad real good Caesar. Driest duck poutine tho real dry wooooof. Food
Best Caesar salad I ve ever had in my entire life. The duck poutine was brutal though. Driest duck I ve ever had in my entire life! Skip the duck. Get the salad instead. Food
Loved our evening here. Bartenders did a great job of guiding our selections. Good local brew. Menu is fantastic and there are plenty of great sight lines to watch the local musicians. Go here! Its great.
Great first time at the Halifax location. Sat at the bar. Sara was excellent, thank you. Great atmosphere and food and fast service. Will definitely be back.
Love their beers!
Nice place, good menu, craft beers.
Yummy, great service, great staff!! Amazing!
On the fist day of Burger Bash 2024 my coworkers and I ended up at Graham. And of course I chose the double double burger. It was an excellent burger, the beef patty was fresh and topped with pulled pork and jalapeño bacon jam (need I say more?) all layered on a brioche bun. It s but of spicyness gave it the great taste and the size was perfect for a lunch in between work. Overall a good start of the bash this year.
The brunch menu is fantastic - offering a few familiar breakfast options with more unique options. Great spot to go on a Sunday morning, especially if you are staying in one of the local hotels.
It was a good visit to Gahan house. The place is good with nice food and the in house freshly brewed beer. Enjoyed spending the evening with my family and friends. The evenings on weekend are always fun in downtown and this location usually is busy and happening. I would highly recommend to visit this once to try their beers which you can buy from there as well.
Burger Bash Burger/Fries and Service was okay.
The food was descent but the live music waaaay too loud
Wasnt going to mention this because I enjoyed the food and the company so much, but there was a mouse running around near the vats the whole time we were there. Put a trap.out ! Lol. Dont let this fact deter you from going. Place is exceptionally clean and their wings were excellent. We ended up orderimg all three of their flavors!!
Our server Tori was awesome!!
Beer is delicious!
Had a really great experience at Gahan. I have been here a few times before and never had any issues. We were seated promptly, the server provided great service and the food came quickly & tasted great.
We were a large table of 9 and were all incredibly impressed with the high quality of service on all fronts that we received. Our server was upbeat, friendly and make great recommendations. Drinks and food were on point. Will definitely visit again!
Nice selection of Beer and Food. Lively atmosphere, especially on Game Nights.
Food was just okay. Kinda greasy and some weird flavor combinations going on. Not bad, but nothing fantastic. Prices are reasonable for what we got, but it wants super memorable. Great beer though!
Had a variety of food with 8 of us out for dinner. All were happy as the food and portions were good. Some vegetarian options and a good selection of craft beer.
One of the best spots for fish & chips! Great brunch as well
Duck tacos was good! Coctails was delicious! The other food was good as well, but more common, nothings super special or delicious. Food : 3/5
Our food sat for a lonnnng time before they decided to give us silverware sadly:( hard to get a server to come to the table:(
Food was incredible. Only place that actually uses fresh fish in their fish and chips. Server was awesome!
We had our office party in the private room of the restaurant. It was an amazing experience. Food was excellent and the service was good.
The food here is so great !!! I really enjoyed the tuna tartar, fish and chips and mussles! Ive been here a few times and I will come back everytime Im in town!
Great food and service
Excellent food and service. Great beer selection too
Great atmosphere and the food was very good
Our waitress was AMAZING!! I dont remember her name but she was short, blond hair and had lots of tattoos. She was very nice and joked with my friend and I. Service, food and drinks were great!!
Decent pub with good food and friendly service. The haddock tacos were tasty.
Tasty beers, delicious foods, well priced compared to similar restaurants in the area.
Great portions of food & excellent service. Will definitely be back next time in town.
We ve been here a number of times now. Perfect as you don t need to book, the beer is excellent & the food menu is great! Highly recommend. Burgers were very tasty!!
Don t go here, drinks are expensive and bad, food is bad, and most importantly if you go there, I have to wait for a table and can t get in fast enough! P.S. To the Gahan house person who replied my review: it was a positive review and a joke, dude! I love this place. Don t drink too much of your ale
We visited a couple weeks ago during the ECMA week and it was our first visit since this location opened in the Nova Centre. The atmosphere was much better here than when they had the other location along the waterfront. It made you feel like you were in a big city, but the food and drinks tasted as if you were in small town PEI. The beer was delicious as always and the nachos were too notch. Probably up there as best in Halifax
Food was OK, fries were awesome. But fish tasted a bit over done and that the oil was in need of a change.
First off, if youre walking here from the waterfront, train for a marathon beforehand to make it up that hill. Came here with the family, so there were 9 of us. Service speed was as expected when faced with a group that size, some with apps, some not. There were members of the group with lactose and gluten intolerance, so its nice to see they had menus that cater to both, while still feeding them a good meal. I had the oysters, fried chicken sandwich, and seasonal veg. The oysters were well-shucked. No sand. But man were they ever small. That should be a crime, given the part of the world theyre in. The chicken sandwich was really tasty and I loved the veg, though I wish the serving of those was a bit bigger. Other dishes ordered were the chicken curry, beef melt, burrito bowl, brown bag chicken, and brown bag fish. Everyone enjoyed their meals overall and liked the beer recommendations provided to them as well. Dietary restrictions: Offer a gluten free and a vegan menu
Really great visit loved the pretzel bites!
I came specifically for the house brewed alcoholic root beer. I live an hour from the city so choosing a place is a big deal to me as I dont get to dine in Halifax often. On this occasion they didnt have any root beer on tap. They had some in bottles but would not sell them to me because I was dining in. Im sorry but this doesnt make sense to me. Im a paying customer regardless of whether Im eating in or out. I was incredibly disappointed as this was my only reason for choosing to dine there. The food was good. I had the bagged chicken and chips and it was spiced really well. My dining partner had the calamari and also enjoyed their meal. I hesitate to come back because of the poor service received on this occasion.
I visited here for the first time recently. The food was pretty tasty. I ordered the chicken wings, pork belly tacos, spinach salad and cheesecake. The wings were crispy, but not that flavourful. The portion size was fairly small for the price. The tacos were delicious and the cheesecake was tasty, but pretty sweet for my tastes. My favourite thing I had was the spinach salad. It was sweet and tangy with lots of different textures from the goat cheese, walnuts, cranberries and onions. I found that the service was somewhat lacking. We werent in a rush so it wasnt a big deal, but it did take over two hours for our appetizer, entree and dessert. I understand that it was busy when we visited, but our server was almost impossible to track down most of the time.
So disappointed so much disappointed They changed whole menu they change all chicken wings flavours and all the vegetarian menu i wish they got back the barbecue wingss Food
The Burrito Bowl was really good. It had the right amount of heat and a good variety of ingredients. Highly recommend.
Staff is excellent!
Traveled to Halifax from NJ and stopped at the Gahan House for lunch. Our waitress Kennedy was amazing. Our group of 14 was seated right away and had amazing service and amazing food!! Highly recommended if you are in the area.
Came here for dinner last night, service was prompt and the place was nice. Had the Calamari as an appetizer, upon finishing it I became quite sick and had to go to the washroom. Not sure if it had gone bad or twas undercooked. The mains were good, Seafood Chowder and Coconut Chicken Curry. I d appreciate some info on the squid, It s quite concerning considering how sick it made me.
The pickled beet/onion salad was good.
Really Nice ambiance. Beer is cold and really tasty. Food is really good too! I had the Fish n Chip un a Brown bag. Awesome dinner. Not the best, but really really good! The Blueberry beer is very good too. Ill come back!
What s not to like? Friendly service in a great central location and a varied menu with something for everyone. And of course a great local craft beer selection on tap. Vegetarian options: Several tasty vegan options Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free options.
Breakfast doesn t seem to be as popular in Halifax as it is in the states so we tried most of the breakfast options over a week visit. This one was simple and good diner fair.
Entrée was over cooked. With all the choices downtown I wont be choosing this location to eat again. Service was good though and location band atmosphere are excellent. Shame about the meal.
Live music was a plus on Thursday night. Food and beer were excellent except for my sons fish and chips, fish was way over cooked even if it was the last thing to come out as they screwed up the first order.
Spacious spot for large gatherings. Food-wise, loved the seafood chowder and the fish cakes. As for drinks, the Hibiscus sour was pretty memorable. The staff was super friendly too.
Had the pleasure of visiting this location as well as the one in St.John. highly reco the coconut curry and the oysters
Ill start with the pros. The calamari and mussels were excellent. Both season perfectly. The mussels were in an original sauce that most other restaurants are skipping out on. The tartar was also a fairly generous portion. Very fresh. The service was friendly but not the fastest. Adequate speed, Id say. The fish and chips were alright. The chips were so good. Great seasoning. The fish came fried in their beer batter. Its good, but heavy. After a couple of bites, you start to feel it. We removed the batter from the second strip and ate the fish. Still very good.
Pleasant staff. Fish was great!
We were 7; my daughter-in-law called ahead for reservations just hours before. We were seated outside with beautiful lighting from both the dining room inside and the street. Service was on the slow side but it appeared that she was pretty much alone on a very busy night. She always wore a smile, answered our questions, and apologized when a 7-UP was forgotten. For the record, she brought it before being asked about it. A variety of drinks were enjoyed. Several appetizers were ordered from our group, replacing meals for some. Between us, Cajun Caesar salad (very good), seafood chowder (one of the best), tuna tartar (amazing), wings (so yummy), nachos (delicious), calamari (perfection) and a variety of mussels (very good). I ordered brown bag fish and chips. It comes with 2 large pieces and it gets heavy on the stomach while getting through the 2nd piece. The fries are amazing. All servings were nice size; nothing skimped except for maybe tartar sauce. Im certain that if I asked for more, I would have received another. No room for dessert. No complaints on the washrooms by anyone (I didnt need to go.) Parking: Parking your car in this town is quite the challenge, especially with all parking lots filled to capacity before 6:30. If you dont mind walking 10-15 minutes, parking can be found on top of the hill by the university. It makes for a good workout after dinner.
Nice, clean setting, but thats about where the good stuff ends. Wait staff seem to be just going through the motions and the food, well that was bad on a whole other level. Started with the oysters, which arent cooked of course, so theyre almost impossible to mess up. We ordered the nachos which were ok, but priced a little high at $19.00. After that, it was the pork belly tacos, which arrived ice cold, overpowered with pineapple and rubbery bits of pork belly which had absolutely zero flavor. Last time I was there I had the fish. I shouldve stuck to that, cause the tacos were abysmal.
The best part was literally the drinks
Fish tacos were great. I would go here again and order them again though there are other items I would try. The nachos and chips with dip were very basic and ok. The service was very good and friendly. The live music was way too loud and not good. Peanut allergy friendly.
Food is great, but theyve cut down the menu considerably since they were on the waterfront. The beer is excellent. The patio can get chilly if the wind is blowing. Patio is also dog friendly. Food
Fantastic oysters, great service and really amazing choices. Thank you for a relaxing afternoon. Special thanks to Holly.
Stopped for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. The vibe is kind of like a sports bar. They brew their own beer, which I enjoyed. I had fish tacos which were super well seasoned and very yummy. My wife had a fresh salad that she enjoyed. Overall, very good.
Our waitress Ariel was fabulous!! She was friendly and sweet!! The food was delicious, I had the Beef melt and mmmmmm! Would come back just for the service we received
Great service and food
Good burger , nice beer and excellent staff
Had a great time here, the blueberry ale was amazing. Had the fish and chips which was delicious. Highly recommend
Worst food I ve ever tasted. Felt like we got leftovers. Food just thrown on a plate. Chicken wings were super dry and coated with 1 inch seasoning, same seasoning overdressed on fries. Chicken burger was awful . Three small nuggets thrown in a bun, again felt like someone s leftovers. Both my husband and I got food poisoning and are still sick. Only good thing was the flight.
Live music, kids menu, variety of beers on tap made in-house, and some solid and tasty food Dietary restrictions: Dairy free, vegetarian, and vegan options! Kid-friendliness: We were offered a kids menu with crayons, kids water cup, and a list of options for dinner. Wheelchair accessibility: Accessible entrances and patios
Food was fabulous. Server was friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was quiet, it was early afternoon.
Beer here is tasty because you can order flights of beer. We enjoyed the food so much that we came here twice on our holiday they have real chicken on the bone chicken wings. Seriously the staff were courteous and friendly a great place for food and beer
Excellent service, good beers and the food is amazing. Seafood cowder, chicken curry and pretzel with beer dip were 10/10.
I ve been here several times. Staff are all very young and seem to be un-attentive to the point where you have to wave them to get service. Several just sitting on their phone and chatting with people. Beer is well made, nothing experimental, mostly safe and traditional styles. Food is good but kitchen is slow. Overall an an average brew pub. I would keep coming back. Update: went back again and same issues. This time my food was soggy. No soap in the bathroom. I asked them to refill it and it wasnt done. I basically had to eat my food without washing my hands. And left without my hands washed. Won t be going back.
Got chicken tenders and fries. The tenders were not tender, and the fries were very salty.
Overall food was lightyears away from Gahan in PEI. What a disappointment! A staff member -i think he was the supervisor because he was switching back and forth with our waiter to serve us)was changing lightbulbs on 3 light fixtures nearby (stepladder was 3 feet away). The ceilings are incredibly high so who knows what floated down on our food. Fish and chip batter was mushy in no time and my fish tacos were certainly generous in anything else BUT fish. Waiter was ok. When we asked about mussels (we remembered the ones in PEI 6 years before) the menu had understandably changed but they said oh we still do that type (white wine, etc) but it s not on the menu because it s not gluten free . When we received them they had no bread. Then we had to wave down the waiter to ask for bread! How about asking us in the first place!! Sheesh, all the way from northern Ontario for this. This place is all about location, certainly not about food and service. So disappointed
Nice place with good
Came here for a company event. Food was great and private room was excellent. Service was outstanding. Highly recommend!! Don t forget to follow me!!
Just a really good, solid place. Really good food and service. Go there all the time and Ive never been disappointed.
Clean and fast. Oysters fresh and pint options were fun. Food is fresh and tasty.
This place has great food and decent beer. Although, the brown I had recently wasnt as good as it normally is. My only compliant is the way they take reservations. I tried to make a reservation online, they werent taking any as they were booked. I decided to stop in anyway to see if they had room. They once again said they were booked and wouldnt seat us aside from the bar. We were there probably about 45 mins and at least 6 tables were empty the entire time. Not sure what theyre doing, but it aint working.
Great atmosphere, great staff, amazing beer .. the fish was probably the best fish Ive had.. perfect amount of batter and very hot and delicious.
A group of 11 of us ate there just over a week ago. One of my friends ordered a 5 ounce glass of wine and then an 8 ounce glass of wine, and when her bill came, she was charged for two 8 ounce glasses of wine. She pointed this out to our server, who basically told her that she was wrong and charged her for the two 8 ounce glasses anyway. Another friend ordered her meal with no onions, and it arrived with onions. She could not be bothered to say anything, so she just ate it and obviously did not enjoy it. Another friend of mine ordered the pork belly tacos. She said that what arrived was basically uncooked fat, so she had two bites and left the rest. When our second round of drinks came, everybody was having to figure out what belonged to who, because people that ordered a 5 ounce wine were given an 8 ounce wine and vice versa. One of the girls ordered the same type of wine twice but the two glasses tasted different. We still don t know if we got the actual wine that we ordered. We at least made the amounts correct. For my food order, I had asked if I could just order two of the sides and was told that I could. I was not informed that the prices would be different than the $4 each listed. I was then charged for a small size of the salad at $9. And I was charged $6 for sweet potato fries when I would think that I would at least pay the $4 charge for it as a side to my salad? I am not sure why the price for those increased to $6? I will say that the fries and salad were tasty for me at least. When our bills came, mine was incorrect (for the drinks, I did not mention the food prices) as well as my friend to the right of me. We both asked for them to be corrected, which she did. But then they came back incorrect again, with my friend to the right of me basically paying a few extra dollars for my wine. Our server asked us if we wanted the bills redone again, instead of just apologizing and going back to make it correct. At that point we were just annoyed and we felt bad to send her back, so we said not to worry about it and just left it as is. Then, to top it all off, she announces to our group that any group larger than 10 people automatically has to pay an 18% tip. There is nothing listed on your website about this, and the person that made the reservation was not told about this. So I actually question if this is even true. I don t understand why somebody can give less than good service, but then also be rewarded with an 18% tip from every person. I can tell you that I certainly would not have given her an 18% tip based on the service that was provided. Overall, I can say that I will not be going back, as there are many other restaurants around Halifax that provide great service for large groups, and do not insist on a certain percentage of tip for poor service.
Top drawer atmosphere, food and service. However there was a waiter who dashed around the restaurant with the wind in his hair and pep in his step, it was very cute- however there was a smell of bologna coming from his pockets and I caught him eating hamster food.
I went there 3 years back and even though the service was slow just like today, the food was at least good. But when I went there now, I ordered fish and fries: the fish inside was amazing but the batter was burnt and bitter in taste; fries had amazing dressing on it but the dressing was SOOOO much, it started tasting horrible. My friend ordered chicken penne and it was so salty, she could barely finish it. The waiters and waitresses work so hard but they are clearly understaffed for a Saturday evening and the quality food food isn t what it used to be once. The menu card looks perfect though. One thing I loved was that the waitress remembered to get me lemon wedges for my beer and took care of that. She also agreed to click our photos at the end of our dinner.
Service was fast and pleasant. Mostly pub style food, but portions were good and it wasnt too loud. The location is good if you are going to an event downtown.
Delicious food and generous portions! The interior is very cool, lots to look at and admire. Our server was really nice and patient despite our constant distractions making us forget to look at the food menu to order. The brown bag chicken comes with a TON of fries.
This is an organic review and completely based on our visit experience. We made a visit to Gahan House in Halifax to celebrate our wedding anniversary on 30th july 23. I heard alot of good reviews and decided to opt this place. 1. Food: we ordered chicken wings with sweet Thai chili sauce. It was fine (I expected it to be more better). But the dessert surprised me which I ordered.for my kid. She wanted a brownie with vanilla ice cream in which brownie was super delicious but found some sort of cream with it instead of vanilla ice cream. Should be taken care of before serving. 1. The service started with a pleasant welcome and the bar section Ambience was nice. However when we were done with drinks and appetizers, we were waiting for someone to ask for the main course but surprisingly no one turned up so we decided to move out and went to the counter and paid the bill with the tip. Still 3 stars for the overall service. 2. We decided to move to the beer garden section and were offered a low seating chair with table which we agreed upon. To my surprise, when I returned back home, I saw pet hairs spread on the back of my t-shirt. It was a complete shock for me. Edited: I am happy to see the reply from the service team and I shared my concern over email and hoping one day, I will get a reply back before we consider to try Gahan house again.
Went here for Burger Bash and definitely will be back. Although they seemed to be short staffed, the staff was nice and accommodating. Our waiter picked a wonderful cider for me try.
Dropped in for a quick drink with family who were waiting for a show at the local theatre to start. Despite not being in there very long it was very evident how delighted the table was with their service. The cocktails were excellent. I have had eaten there in the past with no complaints either. Its a good spot to kill some time and enjoy good food and drink.
Great food and drinks!
Food was really good.
Very bad experience at this location. Server was rude and not in a good moon. Worst part, i saw a mouse running in the dinning area, I thought it cant be reel, i must have imagine that, but my girlfriend came back from the washroom and mention she just saw a mouse as well. I run to the bar to mention it to 2 staff member, they answer was, no worry its probably the same one you saw twice. I asked for the bill and leave.
** Gone Downhill - Save your $$ ** Attended a Christmas work lunch at the Gahan House. I ve been multiple times to three of their restaurants - they used to be good. Chicken sandwich was barely okay. The crispy chicken was overcooked and dry, it came with just a handful of coated fries; slapped on a plate with not much more effort taken than that. $21. Portion small / mediocre. Ordered a Pepsi, didn t get a refill as the wait staff only came back to the table once, at the end of the meal, with the bill. Really disappointing. Not terrible but now well below average. The last time I went to this Gahan House, I also remember being underwhelmed, so this was the last time for me and I ll make sure work steers clear in future.
