6220 Quinpool Rd, Halifax, NS B3L 1A3, Canada
After moving from his home in Nassau, Bahamas, owner Demetrius Ferguson dreamed of sharing the music, culture, food and drink of the islands with Halifax. And with that dream, Palm Tree Kitchen was born. Palm Tree Kitchen is located on historic Quinpool Road, in the former location of The Other Bean – a local staple for sandwiches and drinks. Palm Tree Kitchen has kept some of the communities’ favourite sandwiches on our menu to pay homage to the iconic food that was served here before us. Need a vacation? Come and feel the island vibes.
The drinks, food, atmosphere, and service made for a stellar evening. We started with cocktails and would highly recommend the Kingston Negroni. It’s finished with cherry wood smoke making it not just incredibly tasty and aromatic, but fun as well. Their rum selection is truly impressive, and I do look forward to returning to try other rums. We ordered some Red Stripes for the food. We tried both the beef and chicken patties, both had perfectly seasoned meat fillings. We also shared the trio of Caribbean tacos: jerk chicken, bbq pork, and the jackfruit. The tacos are generously pilled high and each had its own unique flavours and topping. Our server thoughtfully warned us that the jerk chicken was spicy. It was… once I got past the initial shock… I went full in on this and truly enjoyed the burn. Be warned… the jerk is seriously spicy. I like it hot, but my face was sweating had to take a layer of clothing off for this one… and yet, I would definitely do it again. Finally we had the oxtail and macaroni. Another winner! The shredded oxtail was fantastic. The place has low lighting nicely contrasted with bright decor. The music is fun and definitely on the louder side, which I do not mind at all. It’s loud enough so you cannot hear other people’s conversations, and just loud enough that you can lean in and chat with your date. I look forward to returning to try other items on their menu.
Cool spot with good music. Food was tasty. Had the bruschetta, tacos and a beef patty. The jerk chicken taco was VERY spicy, I can handled my heat and it messed me up. Approach with caution. Overall great meal, authentic flavour and cool plates and ideas. They were sold out of the scallop dish which I wanted to try.
Came here for lunch. Had the jerk chicken sandwich and a beef patty....chef advised the jerk was HOT.....and it was ....(2 Red Stripes hot)....but it was also insanely delicious. Many layers of flavour....and so big I needed a fork to eat half the meat before I could pick it up. Had a great chat with chef/owner (Meech).....was told I could not have rum until 6....so OF COURSE I came back for a few cocktails....the place was hopping at dinner....his brother Donny bartending was fun fun fun. Drinks were equally amazing.....will definitely be back when I return to Halifax.
Palm Tree Kitchen exceeded all expectations! The rum selection was outstanding, offering a delightful array that perfectly complemented our meal. Speaking of which, the food was simply amazing—each dish crafted with precision and bursting with flavor. Hats off to the chef for creating such a memorable dining experience. We'll definitely be back for more!
The Island Man.. that drink alone is enough to keep me coming back. And it’s made absolutely perfect every time I have been there. Add the hospitality, the food, and the entire vibe and you’re looking at Halifax’s best hidden gem. I have tried almost every drink on their menu and every single one is a whole different experience! I can’t say enough good things about my experiences at Palm Tree. And I’m just going to add that their beef Pattie’s are *chef’s kiss
A great time was had by all The food was great and was good value. My cocktail called “The Pink Flamingo” was gorgeous, and tasted even better than it looked! The service was outstanding; very friendly and professional. I felt like I was on vacation in the Bahamas Loved it!
Absolutely loved our experience at Palm Tree kitchen! The restaurant may be small but it is very big in flavour and heart! Both drinks we tried were delicious, we felt like we were on a tropical vacation right on Quinpool road! Meech and the rest of the staff are so friendly, it’s a great atmosphere! We will definitely be back :)
A hidden gem on Quinpool Road! The interior is beautiful, full of bright fun colors with great music playing - the only thing that would make you believe you weren’t actually in the Bahamas is the fact that there’s no white sandy beach right outside the door. There is also a lovely little covered patio at the back. The staff were all super friendly and accommodating, contributing to the awesome atmosphere. We went for dinner and tried a little bit of everything. All of the cocktails not only tasted, but also looked amazing. Same goes for the food, there’s nowhere else comparable in the city. 10/10! We can’t wait to go back again and try the lunch menu.
My wife and I Googled the best Quinpool Rd restaurants and the Palm Tree stood out so we thought wed give it a try. We timed our arrival for lunch at 12:30 (seemed like a strange opening time?) and went in to the restaurant through an unlocked door to find no one in the space. Within a few seconds, a young man (I can only assume he wasnt one of the friendly, welcoming hosts referenced in the glowing reviews) came flying into the restaurant to tell us that they werent open yet and that wed have to leave. I asked him what time it was and, without checking, he told us to leave and that we should have known that they werent open as the door wasnt open. How he thought we got in is a mystery to us. When we left, my wife checked her phone and discovered that it was 12:28pm a full 2 minutes before they were scheduled to open. We wont be back and have to question the positive comments posted on this site.
Honestly one of the best meals Ive ever had, regardless of the affordable price!
Went here with a coworker today and we absolutely enjoyed the food and atmosphere! The gentleman who prepared the meal and chatted with us- made us feel so welcome! Excited to come back for some Roti and Oxtail!
First time at Palm Tree. I really enjoyed the food, very tasty and delicious. The place is very clean and Meech is very friendly. Sure I will come back
Legit. Food was all amazing and on point. Hottest wings Ive ever been served that actually tasted good. Order what you want, and eat what you order. No takeout. Idiots who dont know how to dine out should stay away. Unfiltered on tap. What else you want?
Out for lunch with a friend and advisor. He picked a place on Quinpool Rd called Palm Tree Kitchen. Well, let me tell you!!! If you like spice, try it out! If you like flavour, try it out! If you like authentic Caribbean cuisine, try it out! If you like rum OMG over 200 different rums from all over the Caribbean and South America. Try this place out. I had the Spicy Peanut and was mightily impressed! Heat level was right on! Meech is the owner and was a wonderful host, cook and wealth of knowledge!
Fantastic gem - excellent cocktails, delicious food (especially the jerk chicken wings which were truly spicy, and the beef patties, yum!), and friendly staff.
Really good jerk chicken
Stoped in for lunch with my partner, the atmosphere is unbeatable and the food is just *chefs kiss* Jerk chicken is to die for. 10/10 cannot wait to come back in the evening to try the drinks
What an absolute gem! Cocktails were such a treat and food was spectacular.
Incredible rum selection, top shelf Caribbean food, and one of the best hosts in the city. We ordered the jerk chicken sandwich and it was easily one of the best jerks I ve ever had. 100% fresh ingredients including actual scotch bonnet. Be prepared to sweat a bit but it s a spice-lover s dream. 10/10 will be going back often; still need to try a rum flight with some plantain chips! Dine-in only.
The sandwiches are great and match just about any cocktail, fantastic place thank you !
My favourite date spot! Best food on Quinpool by far. The owner is so kind and always makes a point of saying hello to us.
Best meal Ive had in the city! Good and spicy, definitely get the Peanut Punch and bliss out!
Ordered the fish sandwich. As we say Flavour for so Tasty & Very satisfying, I thoroughly enjoyed this culinary experience.
The worst experience I ve ever had in Halifax The owner was extremely disrespectful, rude and told us we don t deserve his respect. He does not respect black women and his attitude is highly disappointing.
When me and my friends first entered the place one of our friends was already there. We waited at the front for the manager. We got no response he continued to clean. We waited I am a server and a bartender myself so I know restaurant etiquette. He never came and greeted, mind you we were the only ones in there. Our friend had to come and get us and we sat down. We decided what we wanted and waited from him to approach us. He never did so we gave him a friendly hail. He then decides to tell us that we have to come up to the bar to order. We were like okay. The menu was very limited but as a fellow Bahamian me and my friends wanted to support so we came back after 8 for the larger menu. When we arrived we were finally greeted by a different server not the manager meech. Everything was well and good the only thing were the tables were very small and shaky. I undestand it s a new business so funds might be low for new tables. That s understandable. My friend ended up spilling her drink. She acknowledged that it was her fault. She asked for another drink and the server told us it would be a while because they had a table with 8 people. My friend ordered her new drink at exactly 9:30 she received the drinks exactly 30 mins later. As a server and bartender who takes multiple ordered sometimes tables of 20 people that is totally unacceptable for a drink to take that long. However it was one bartender so we understood. I want to make it clear that we were NEVER EVER informed of that they do not have containers for us to take our food home. Since the drink came at 10 and they close at 10 we just asked for containers. The server informed us earlier that the wings were extremely spicy and they were, so she did not want to rush them. We were told to that there is no containers or foil we can take the food in. We were instructed to hurry up finish the wings or get out.We were baffled by this because we did understand what went wrong. I went up to the manager and asked him if you do not have containers then why did the server fail to mention this at first. I asked him do you marinate the wings overnight and he said yes. I then asked him so how do you cover the wings if you have no wrap or foil or do you leave it open to be contaminated.By the way they did have foil as I saw it in their toaster oven which is way the issue was pressed. Why are you lying ? He proceeds to Avoid the question and tell me there is no way to take the food that we ordered home. I felt threatened and vulnerable as a women as they were very aggressive and I felt unsafe so we left. They energy from the first time we entered the bar was unpleasant but being the people that we are we decided to come back and give it another try. The lies and false accusations were disrespectful especially since we felt so unsafe around them. As a fellow server and bartender I am appalled because there are certain server etiquette that everyone in the industry should uphold and it was not upheld in this instance. My bad advice is more patience and the manager should do yoga as to relieve stress. Maybe that s why he s always cleaning. I m aware that the a response is coming from the restaurant so I would like to ask you. What specifically did we say that was out of line or rude to you? And tell the truth because I can name many specific example from you guys such as when you told us to wrap the hot spicy chicken in paper tissues and get out or when you told us we don t deserve respect. Some people aren t meant to own businesses and be servers. My advice is to get a better loan from the bank and get better tables. Wings were fire tho literally if you go here DO NOT ENGAGE too heavily with staff never know when they are going to pop off. And do not ordered the pina colada they bartender hates making it and probably won t. And I want to emphasize WE WERE NEVER told that they do not have container before we ordered we were told this at 10 pm when closing. Maybe come to my restaurant and I ll show guys how servers and mangers are suppose to act. Bring your own takeout containers.
WORST EXPERIENCE of my life. I can not believe I got told that I don t deserve respect because I asked for a to go box. First of all my drink spilled at 9:14, requested for a replacement and this came out at 10:00pm (closing hours). I couldn t finish up the spicy jerk wings in time and requested a to go box then all hell broke loose, I got reminded I spilled my drink . The tables are so small and wobbly, how won t you spill a drink(?), I was returning to my seat and the table wobbled and my drink spilled. They have a no takeout rule which makes no sense with the long wait times Got the most dehumanizing experience ever, got shushed by the owner, and I don t think the owner cares about the customer experience (or maybe he doesn t care how black women are treated in his establishment), he literally confirmed that to me, I asked if he thought we didn t deserve his respect and he said you don t . I didn t try the food because Meech (the owner) snatched it from me and trashed it (all because he didn t want to break his rules ). Also 4 plantains for $6?? Come on lmao Update: the owner responded, you can all see his response which are lies. First of all, no one informed us you didn t have to go boxes, your server got loud and aggressive first, after we requested for the boxes. My friend was literally shaking after speaking to you both. You didn t ask us to leave, we said good bye after you thrashed the food and my friend said she felt really unsafe. I should add that he was showing me small plastic containers from his kitchen, I asked why we couldn t get those and he said he re-uses them for food prep. The restaurant is literally right across the superstore so you know he didn t care how we felt in his space. The blatant disregard is what was surprising, the staff all decided we weren t deserving of basic decency at all. Very scary. One thing is for sure, I see him responding to all the old google reviews, he might actually start giving better service to prove my friends and I wrong, and that s works out great for us all, lol.
I love the vibe! It s one-of-a-kind in the city. I love the owners, I love the food. I love the drinks!
Fantastic vibes. Great food. Tasty cocktails. What more could you ask for?
Amazing authentic Jamaican food, delicious drinks and the atmosphere is fun.
I ve been to Palm Tree many times and it s always a great experience. Attentive and super friendly service, the cocktails are inventive and delicious. The food is great - love the tacos and sliders - and it has a fun, welcoming atmosphere.
The spirit of the Caribbean really shines in this little gem of a place! From the delicious food, to the cheerful decor, to the fun and friendly staff, you are in for a treat! Oh, and the choices or rums are staggering, not to mention the creative cocktails that are so delicious!!
We ve visited a few times. Cocktails are amazing. Staff were knowledgeable on the menu and made great recommendations. Cozy atmosphere! Food is top notch!
Visited the Palm Tree Kitchen with a group for the evening menu. Food was outstanding! I had 4 different small plates, and enjoyed them all. No drinks for me, but the others throughly loved theirs.Service was very attentive, water glasses were always full, which was appreciated! Would highly recommend! Going back tomorrow to try their lunchtime menu!
I went to the Palm Tree Kitchen with my elderly parents and my adult sister and we loved the place. My father grew up for 9 years in Jamaica and was quite surprised to see the large collection of rumsand to be treated to authentic home cooked Jamaican patties- he joked they were better than the ones he had over 60 years ago (I bet). My sister is vegan and she found enough yummy selections on the menu which isnt always the case at little shops like this. I love going there and I always bring my Dad there when he visits. Dont miss it!
Such a gem on Quinpool Road! The food, drinks and atmosphere are amazing and the staff are all so friendly and welcoming. Can t wait to go back again next week and dine on the patio.
The Palm Tree is a great place to go for a fun night out! The service is fantastic, the food is spicy and delicious and the drinks are fantastic. They have really created a feeling of a Caribbean beachside bar so its different than anywhere Ive been in Halifax. Highly recommend. (Unless you dont like spicy food.)
Love this place, cool vibe, great drinks and food. Our new favorite hangout on the peninsula!
My husband and friends of ours came for dinner, the vibe is amazing, feels like you are down south, the staff were so amazing and honestly we felt right at home. The food omg was amazing, I have never had jackfruit, I was shocked at how good it was. We are definitely going back and soon, maybe less rum drinks lol I am a light weight .
Fun spot and delicious small plates. Staff are attentive and friendly. Highly recommend!
Great food you will not be disappointed !!!
Love this place! Super fresh food, and actually spicy and flavourful jerk chicken. Very fun drinks. Love the atmosphere and just hanging out.
Recently went to Palm Tree Kitchen with friends. We had a fantastic evening and enjoyed great drinks and food. I have worked in the Caribbean for many years and this is authentic. Great place and we will be back. Friendly and lots of fun
Cannot say enough good things about the food and service. Highly recommended.
We love Palm Tree Kitchen! You feel like you are away and on vacation at this beautiful restaurant. The food is fresh and made to order and the cocktails are delicious! Make sure to stop by. You ll be happy you did
Chef is amazing!! Staff person at cash was friendly and efficient. Music and ambiance was Jamaican. Felt like a fun vacation to Jamaica for an hour. Great place. Update a year later: wonderful place. Great vibe, great food, great people!

Amazing restaurant! Staff are friendly and helpful. Great vibes and incredible food. Highly recommend to anyone from Halifax or visiting, Palm Tree Kitchen is a must visit!
My most favourite place in Halifax to go for great Caribbean food, great service and company, amazing drinks and a fun island vibe atmosphere. Thanks for being my perfect island oasis here in Halifax. I ll be back soon!
I celebrated my birthday here, and the service was excellent! Friendly staff, music was a jam, and the vibe relaxed. We ordered almost one of everything; the conch fritters were a group favourite and the cocktails were perfection.
Fantastic spot to pop into for some grub and cocktail right in the heart of Quinpool business district.
OMG...the best jerk chicken! Palm Tree Kitchen offers a slice of the Caribbean in Halifax, with its authentic flavors, vibrant atmosphere, and warm hospitality. Cant wait to go back!
Food, drinks, service and vibes are immaculate! My sister and I visited Palm Tree Kitchen twice. We ordered the island crab dip, macaroni, Caribbean tacos and fries, all of which were amazing but we specifically loved the crab dip! We also ordered the Island Man cocktail which is so amazingly refreshing. We can t wait to come back and maybe venture away from our regulars and try more of the menu next time. The staff make you feel like you re at home and the throwback dancehall music is the cherry on top we were dancing in our seats both visits! All around great experience tucked away on Quinpool.
Went for a lunch a couple months ago. A cosy space with easy access to parking off Quinpool. Food was delightful as the Big Meech Burger and Jerk Chicken were great lunch size with so much flavour. I am looking forward to sampling the extensive rum collection! Parking: Look on Quinpool or any side streets. Wheelchair accessibility: A couple pull up tables in the front.
Palm Tree kitchen is a true vibe to experience! Staff are amazing and the atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed. If you would like to transport yourself down in the Caribbean for a short time you should definitely check this little gem out!
Had the best lunch experience here! Great value for delicious and quality food!! The atmosphere and employees are so welcoming and hospitable and the drinks seemed bottomless will definitely be a returning customer as a couple hours spent here felt like a mini vacation right in the heart of our city!
An absolute GEM of a spot tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Quinpool road, Palm Tree really is one of a kind. The charming decor has huge Island vibes and the attention to detail shows in every nook and cranny. We re always greeted with welcoming smiles and the cocktails are fabulous! Loooove the WAGWAN TING! Loved the Caribbean tacos and the beef patties- and we ll be back to try the jerk wings very soon!!
What an amazing and unique spot for Halifax!!! The ambiance at Palm Tree Kitchen complements the drinks perfectly. The décor is vibrant and tropical themed, enhancing the Bahamas experience. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to recommend the perfect drink based on your preferences. The food is soooo delicious as someone who s been here multiple times each dish is always bursting with flavor. If you like spicy foods the jerk chicken is for you just be ready for the heat! What truly sets this place apart is the owner, Meech. Meech is an inspiring person whose passion in everything he does and dedication shine through in every aspect of the restaurant. Its clear that a lot of love and care goes into making Palm Tree Kitchen one of the best spots in Halifax. Highly recommend! Continue to do amazing things Meech!
How lucky are we to have authentic Caribbean vibes in our community?! Go for the rum, stay for the food, and get your dose of island life. Meech and Donny are gems and make sure you are well taken care of! Food
Had a fabulous experience in Palm Tree Kitchen Staff were awesome and the food! Omg the food was amazing. Definitly returning! Thanks for being super authentic
My daughter and I have been in twice so far and both really enjoyed our food and drinks. She said the jerk sliders made her cry; in a good way! Spicy! I loved the island bruchetta and tomato macaroni dish. Im looking forward to visiting for a rum flight or two!
The cutest, locally owned restaurant on Quinpool. You can feel the love upon entering the space and are guaranteed to have a wonderful experience :)
Ive just visited Palm Tree Kitchen for the 3rd time last Friday with my daughters. They love it there and had begged me to go again. Its tiny but has a great vibe. Weve only been there during winter time, so this visit was great because we could sit in the patio area. Very cute! Super friendly staff, they dont let you wait for long and show up several times to make sure you have everything you need. Great food, real taste experience. Its a very relaxed and lovely place we will always visit again.
Great food and great vibes
Fantastic Rum Bar ! Great food, excellent service. We had the best time. Highly recommend trying them out.
This place is fantastic! Incredible food, vibe and best of all, the amazing people. HIGHLY recommend for a super night out.
Love this little place! Chill vibe, fantastic cocktails, great food with a lot of small plates available for sharing over drinks. If you are a rum fan, this is a place you need to check out besides any of this stuff, because they ve got a wall full of rum behind the bar. And the jerk wings are actually hot like jerk should be! Enjoyed everything about it and will be back.
This place is a gem. You want a Caribbean vibe, you have to go to this place. Amazing drinks and awesome food. The staff is extremely welcoming
Drinks were incredible! Thanks meech and Donny for a great night out
Palm Tree Kitchen excels at bringing the energy of the Caribbean to Halifax. A vibrant island inspired decor & wonderful staff warmly welcome you to Halifax s first & only Rum Bar! Tropical Cocktails & Caribbean Inspired Food Fare are a highlight of any visit! We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit & will be loyal & repeat clients as we continue to work our way through the extensive rum selection, fun cocktails & island inspired food!
My favourite spot to grab a fish burger and a beer on a lazy Saturday. Nice atmosphere, great food choices and if you like rum, this is the place to go with friends, such a selection!!
Amazing hidden little eat in restaurant with fantastic food and prices. The workers Meech and Donny are so friendly, you feel welcomed and loved as you open the door.
Have been here a few times for lunch and dinner, dining in and taking out, either with my friends or my children (ages 6 and 12 years). Food is delicious and the service is friendly, especially to my children. The decor is unique as well, gives it a sunny vibe. Will definitely be back!
Love this little place with the carribean vibe. Enjoyed the pork sandwich that we had. Will be back
Food and drinks are amazing. I would definitely recommend giving it a try, if you re looking for something different and good vibes.
Palm Tree Kitchen was a highlight of a recent family trip to Halifax! The cocktails were excellent and the friendly staff had encyclopedic knowledge of the dozens and dozens of rums on offer. The food was flavourful, filling and reasonably priced. I very strongly recommend Palm Tree Kitchen to anyone who appreciates rum or Caribbean food.
Love, Love Love the Palm Tree!!! I had the fries and BBQ sliders. So Yummy!!! For dessert had the Run cake, to die for!!! Can t wait to go again!!
Delicious food with a great Caribbean atmosphere. The staff were so friendly and we loved watching the bartender work his magic.
The staff are friendly and welcoming, you immediately feel at home. The drinks an easy 10/10 and the food is chef s kiss perfection!
This place is great. Delicious small plates, awesome cocktails and a great vibe!! We go as often as we can.
Best Caribbean Cocktails in the city!! Great service and friendly vibe.
Incredible place. One of Halifax s best restaurants. The flavours are so incredible. I m not a drinker and I couldn t stay away from the drinks. The staff were exceptional to our family. 10/10 recommend.
I ve been to Palm Tree many times for delicious cocktails and the evening menu. Finally made it for lunch with family and was not disappointed. The Big Meech, the bbq port and the Jerk chicken all hit the spot. Husband is keen to return for the rum flight. The service at Palm Tree is always friendly and the vibe is chill. Treat yourself to a unique experience that makes you feel like you have left Halifax far behind.
Went to the Palm Tree Kitchen for the first time today... but it definitely wont be my last!! The food was absolutely delicious!! I am torn between going back and ordering the same thing (because it was SO good), and trying some of the other options that sound equally amazing. The service was fabulous- our order was taken quickly, the staff member was super friendly (from the moment we walked in until the moment we left), and our food was at our table before we knew it! It has a super cool ambiance; the Caribbean feel (loved the music!) was the perfect setting for a nice, relaxing meal. I highly recommend Palm Tree Kitchen- it was a wonderful experience with a delicious meal!
Such a fun spot! My family felt welcome and enjoyed the great atmosphere and food!
Amazing!! Will definitely be back Absolutely love the vibe Meech and Donny have created. You feel like you re stepping into a little Caribbean paradise. The music makes you want to dance, the drinks-even the mocktails for me were soooo sooo good. And the food is insane! The decor is so cool too The pinks and the neon and the old school movies playing on the tv. I can t wait to go again and again. It s one of the top places I recommend when folks ask for suggestions on where to go. Couldn t love it more. Vegetarian options: Yummy jackfruit tacos and lots of veggie snacks like popcorn and cotton candy
Love this place! Meech and the staff have created a fun and welcoming environment. The cocktails are incredible. Go here you won t be disappointed!
My wife and I took our 5 year old to Palm Tree a few months ago and he has been asking to go back to his favourite restaurant ever since. 10/10 food and drinks!
Thank you Meech and team for bringing such a vibe to Halifax! Excellent food cocktails and atmosphere. The pulled pork and the jack fruit sliders pack a punch! It takes great courage to set up and run your own business - I love this for you Meech and everything that Pam Tree Kitchen brings. Looking forward to coming back tonight with friends!
Amazing atmosphere, amazing food, and the BEST owners! Love going to eat and socialize here. Highly recommend :)
Fabulous service and delicious food. I ll be back!!!
I have been to Palm Tree multiple times and it never disappoints. The food and the drinks are exceptional. The staff are so welcoming and friendly. It is always a good time with great island vibes. The decor is bright and fun and the music is fire. We are so fortunate to have this establishment in Halifax. I can t wait to go back!
Been a few times now but havent had any of the food yet. I can say their rum selection is amazing and the drinks are extremely tasty! Great vibe and atmosphere for a few drinks and the service was great. I would recommend if you like tropical drinks and/or rum, cant go wrong!
Most delicious food! Even more amazing service!
This restaurant nails it with its Bahamian charm! From the vibrant decor to the delicious food and drinks. Friendly staff and very attentive service. A must-visit in HRM!
Great atmosphere, friendly staff and very tasty food and cocktails! Will definitely be going again!
Great food, great service and in the most charming environment. Highly recommend this locally owned small business, it deserves to be a regular spot for locals and and must see for folks visiting Halifax.
Finally took an opportunity to get to Palm Tree Kitchen about a year after they first opened their doors. I regret not visiting this spot sooner. Had the BBQ pork + jerk chicken sliders and tacos as well as the fries - all packed with flavour. Extensive variety of hard-to-find rums (and Red Stripe beer). The staff are very welcoming and it is clear they they take pride in their product and go above and beyond to ensure an authentic experience. We are lucky to have Palm Tree Kitchen in Halifax.
Just enjoyed a wonderful lunch here. Meech (the owner I think) was very polite and recommended a couple things on the menu I should try. Will definitely be back for more patties!
Cocktails were amazing! Cant wait to come back to try the food!
Fantastic experience! 10/10 would recommend and will definitely return. I have recently spent notable amounts of time traveling through the Caribbean and this place is authentic but better. The jerk chicken wings are delicious, however very spicy. Buyer beware. If you can handle the heat I highly recommend them. I was warned, but didnt listen. Conch fritters were better than any I had while in Bahamas and the crab dip was phenomenal. The cocktails rival any in the city. The Pink Flamingo is both beautiful and delicious and the Mai Tai is one of, if not the best, Ive ever had. Their rum selection does not disappoint either. A lot of unique options that you simply dont see in NS or even on the east coast. Saving the best for last: the staff is better than advertised. Incredibly friendly and helpful. Island vibes in excess. The atmosphere is also great. Good music and very fun aesthetic. Definitely check this place out and see for yourself. This is what Id consider a hidden gem and it doesnt deserve to stay hidden. 10/10. 5
Unreal food, drinks, and staff. Meech is the man
Love this place! The professional and the jerk chicken sandwiches at lunch are out of this world. The service is great. Easily best jerk chicken in city
Phenomenal food with even better service
Eat here quite often. Pulled pork sandwich and beef patty are my two favorites. Had a few cocktails here as well. All were great.
This place blew me away. Unbelievably tasty - I can t stop thinking about it. The Jerk chicken was incredible. Vibes were perfect. I will be back regularly.
Funky spot with an amazing rum selection (no Screech?!) I love a good Tiki drink and the rum flights are fun. Need to go back and try the food.
The staff , food , drinks and atmosphere are amazing and combined make for a great experience. Our second date night here and definitely not our last. 10/10
Awesome food and great drinks!
Amazing cocktails, amazing tacos!
I have eaten there 4 times and it is always great. I recommend the mackerel in a great sauce and plantain. Enjoy the food, rum and atmosphere!
What a spot! I did not have any food but the service was too notch, the rum was amazing, and atmosphere was great! Definitely a spot to visit!!
Step off of Quinpool and into Paradise. The experience and environment at Palm Tree Kitchen is unparalleled in Halifax s restaurant scene! Their attentive staff, delicious food, and upbeat atmosphere make you feel like you ve escaped the city for a night of Caribbean music and cocktails. Highly recommend!
We loved the drinks. We both enjoyed the tacos immensely. The guys were beyond friendly - made us feel like family.
Foods amazing, people are amazing 10/10 would recommend
The vibes are immaculate a quick little getaway right on quinpool the drinks are bomb. Small but tasty food menu and the service was great!!! Good vibes all around.
We were very well taken care of by the crew at Palm Tree. Excellent cocktails, fun vibe. Looking forward to returning.
Fun place to grab a drink and a bite. Highly recommend.
Such a gem on Quinpool! The food is amazing and we can t wait to be back for dinner and cocktails. Meech is one of the best. The jerk chicken is fire. You should come here!
An absolute gem. Palm tree exceeded all expectations. From The moment I stepped in, I was transported to a tropical paradise. The flavors of the food were an absolute delight, and drinks were unlike anything Halifax has to offer (as it s the only rum bar in the city). The staff were awesome, their warmth and genuine friendliness made you feel right at home. 11/10 recommend to stop in to grab lunch , dinner, or drinks. The vibe is unique to Halifax and offers selections not found in other restaurants around.
I met Meech at the Port liquor store and he had an excellent knowledge of rum. When he told me he had opened a rum bar in Halifax I had to go; I was not disappointed. You walk in and its cosy and you are greeted by everyone. The wall of rum is very impressive and probably one of the best stocked that I have seen in Canada. The bartender knew his rums and was whipping up some impressive cocktails. We were fortunate enough to have a ring-side seat to watch Meech in action in his kitchen. All I can say is pure artistry. We sampled a number of things on the menu and they were definitely made to high standards. For a few hours I was transformed back to any number of wonderful little bars I visited throughout the Caribbean.
One the best restaurant services I ve received in Halifax. The owner is so charming and left us feeling like we had a moment in paradise. This is a hidden gem on Quinpool. I love that the food, including the spice, is authentic. Kid-friendliness: We brought two babies and a large stroller. We felt right at home. It s always anxiety provoking dining in at establishments, but we never once felt that way. The owner chatted with us about his family.
great staff, great food, great drinks! lovely little hidden gem :)
Excellent Jerk Chicken wings. Very spicy just the way I like it.
Delicious food and great vibe
Great atmosphere and service. Felt like I was on vacation as soon as I walked through the door. Highly recommend the variety of rum cocktails and jerk chicken
Highly recommended! I wish I had ordered 6 tacos - they were SO good.
Great food, great vibes, lots of different rums to try! Cant wait to go back and eat the rest of the menu.
Loved my experience! The food was amazing, service was top notch, and you felt super welcomed as soon as you walked through the front door!
Great food, great drinks, beautiful spot !
Wonderful little spot, great food and drinks, service was swift and on top of everything, owner is a top guy in the kitchen working hard
Incredible food, music, drinks. Staff are amazing and the atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed. Can t wait to try all the cocktails and desserts on the menu! Vegetarian options: Good options for vegetarian/vegan and gf Kid-friendliness: Vibe is relaxed and kid friendly
Food is authentic and delicious. Service was on island time but totally expected due to how busy the restaurant was! Cocktails were creative and amazing! Can not wait to go back.
Great new spot on Quinpool! I got 3 pulled pork sliders and they were some of the best sliders I ve ever had. In addition to their extensive rum selection, they have red stripe stubby bottle beers which is a classy touch. The service was nice, when we were leaving the chef even gave us a free coconut oatmeal raisin cookie and it was insanely good. The music was good, very upbeat and catchy. I will be going back to try their lunch sandwiches because I hear they re really good, but I d highly recommend this place for dinner and drinks too!
New and unique spot located in Quinpool. I tried their Beef Patty and Guava Jarritos and I felt that I just came from the ocean and looked for something to eat. The patty was hot and delicious and packed with flavour. The vibes of the restaurant is one of a kind and can t wait to go back and try their mains. The owner Meech was really welcoming and told me all about the inspiration behind the restaurant and dishes. I can t wait to come back!
Great food! I didnt know jackfruit could taste so good, and delicious innovative drinks.
A must try for authentic Caribbean food, drinks and atmosphere! Can t wait to go back.
love this spot. great tasting cocktails and an awesome vibe. perfect place for small plates. I keep craving it for a late night snack after playing sports
Really busy Friday night but the staff did a great job keeping things flowing. The atmosphere is so unique and fun. The steamed mackerel was incredible and the drinks were super tasty. Limited seating options for groups larger than 2 so you may need to way, but you NEED to check this spot out. Vegetarian options: Clearly marked on the menu
We tried this new restaurant on Friday night, we were impressed by the beautiful and colorful restaurant. Unfortunately the kitchen closed at 10 PM so we werent able to try any of the food. We ordered drinks instead we waited about 25 minutes for our drinks and 1 of the drinks ingredients sold-out so we were given a complimentary drink which we appreciated and tasted amazing. Given its a new restaurant the service is unfortunately a bit slow. Hopefully that improves with time.
So good. Had the conch fritters, crab dip, a patty and some cocktails. Everything was excellent. The conch fritters reminded us of Bajan fish cakes, which is a big plus for me. Also loved how cozy and bright the space was. Looking forward to returning soon and trying the rest of the menu. (Edited to add details beyond just so good)
VIBES ! If you want to feel like you re on vacation hit this spot. Music and decor are on point to transport you. Food was awesome, perfect small plate portions so you can try a bit of everything, which we did. Loved it all but particularly the bbq pork slider and the fries, love me some matchstick fries. Servers are super friendly and personable!
Immaculate food, drinks, and vibes! The BBQ Pork sliders were excellent and I loved that the small plates let us try lots of things. Such a friendly atmosphere with great servers. I had a great night and will be back when I m next in town!
Palm Tree Kitchen is a welcome addition to the neighbourhood. Quinpool has lacked a cocktail bar for a long time, and Caribbean food only adds to the increasing variety of the neighborhood. The bartender is extremely talented, the food is authentic and delicious, and the service is attentive and welcoming. A must try if you haven t been yet. Vegetarian options: Variety of vegetarian apps, an excellent fish dish, and jackfruit options for tacos and sliders.
Had a wonderful night out at Palm Tree with friends a few weeks ago so suggested to my Husband we go back for our Anniversary Celebration. We spent a beautiful summer evening in the back patio and enjoyed excellent food, drinks and music. Made us feel like we were on a Tropical Honeymoon! And the staff were so kind we even got a celebratory drink from the bartender. I can see many more date nights here in our future :)
Best bar in halifax!
Best rum selection in Halifax.
Enjoyed a delicious lunch of Jerk Chicken and Fried Fish sandwiches on the back porch with pineapple and guava sodas. Felt like we had walked up from the beach and found a local Island hangout.
Wow! Mind Blowing Amazing Food, Drinks and Service. This place is awesome. The kitchen is by design small (1 man space, he can reach pretty much ~everything with 1 step in any direction) so food orders will take island time to get prepped. .This is a good thing! You have more time to appreciate the music, the atmosphere, and some amazing drinks. (and - the food prep in the kitchen is a joy to watch / an image of efficiency in action. Plus, lots of interesting stuff getting assembled at the bar too!) We had a great happy birthday outing here tonight, and - really (!) impressed. We tried 1xEach of the tacos - Jerk Chicken is hot as anticipated but great flavour; the pork is a less hot option/ superb flavours - option. Jackfruit - woot - very tasty. Apparently it is not a meat. :-) but who can say. Crab dip was excellent; not at all boring like it can be at some places. Nice complex flavours. Yum. The Mackerel was delicious - served with Plantain on the side, with a delish tomato sauce. And to finish, Guava Duff - cake served hot that was a perfect close for the meal. Anyhoo. Enough Said! Really really recommended. If you like Rum they have more choices than you can comprehend. If you prefer other drinks, they have a great selection of local beer, wine, and other soft drinks that are interesting and tasty. And a boat-load of amazing sounding cocktails to choose from. So. Anyhoo. Find your way there tonight or sooner!
Great dinner at the new restaurant with a beach bar vibe and fantastic Caribbean food. Highly recommended all the tacos; jerk spiced haddock with plantain; and the mild but complex flavours of the cream cheese crab dip. The guava cake is sumptuous and flavourful. Good selection of local summer beers on tap. The chef, bartender and server were friendly and enjoying themselves and the customers while working hard to bring out delicious drinks and dishes on what they call island time . You will have too much fun to notice the time pass.
We came for a quick bite and found a new favourite. The depth of flavour on the mackerel dish is unparalleled in the city. The menu is full of something for everyone. The cocktails were top notch. Great vibes and service to write a google review about. If you haven t been, stop reading this review and go now while there are still tables left.
Such a great vibe! We came in super hungry and didn t even care about waiting for food because the music and ambiance was so enjoyable. The fried plantains has an amazing sauce, the baked Mac and cheese is super savoury, and the sliders are top notch. It s small portions so fun to try a bunch of different things. You can tell it s quality ingredients. Staff are so friendly.
A great new spot on Quinpool with a great vibe. You actually feel like you re in the Caribbean. Food was great and the drinks were amazing. Will be coming back for more.
The vibes so cool! The bartender is amazing! Love the drinks and grub. It does suck you close on soccer game days, especially being such a new place and already closed on random days and those of us who don t care about or follow soccer have no idea when the games are so it just means going elsewhere to not show up and it be closed.
The Caribbean vibe at Palm Tree is unmatched in the city - and probably in the province. The food is authentic and delicious. I love the fact that it s a small bites & cocktail bar; encouraging Haligonians to take their time, sit back, relax and enjoy not being in a rush. Need a vacation with nothing over $16?? Get your booty into Palm Tree!! (Photo of Conch Fritters)
My daughter and I went out for dinner at this busy new place on Quinpool. Palm Tree Kitchen opened in June and offers a fusion of spicy island flavours in a vibrant atmosphere. We started our evening with a couple of cocktails, the jerk chicken wings, and an order of fries. Then we tried the tacos - she had the roasted jackfruit, I had the jerk chicken. We ended off with the Bacardi Rum Cake. Everything was deliciously prepared! The cocktails were fantastic and the food was full of spicy flavour. Palm Tree Kitchen is devoted to rum. With an extensive selection of rums (well over 100) and available tasting flights, the bar invites you on a sweet journey like no other in Eastern Canada. If youre a connoisseur of rums, this is the spot for you. Its a busy place in the evening but the attentive and friendly service flowed very well and we were always well looked after. Whether youre seeking some expertly crafted cocktails or craving authentic Caribbean cuisine with a friend, this fun restaurant and bar in the heart of the citys west end is a great venue. Palm Tree Kitchen will be a fave place to visit, especially for a mini island getaway when the snow flies in winter!
Read about this place in The Coast and was excited to read that a Caribbean shop opened in my area and thought I would try it since I love Jamaican Patties. Went there at 12noon one day to grab one and was surprised to find it closed. I thought it was strange. Did I get my dates wrong? Maybe they havent had their grand opening yet? Googled it and found they open at 12:30pm. VERY unusual hours if someone wants to eat at lunchtime. I had some more errands to run in the area so I circled back at 12:30pm to find another couple waiting. Doors were still locked. We see someone in the kitchen who ignored us. I went to my car while the other couple walked away annoyed and complaining about their hours. I was texting my friend that the shop was still closed and couldnt get any patties for us. I see someone come out about 5 minutes later to put out the umbrella at the entrance. I asked him what time they open. His reply was around 12:30 I told him it was past 12:30pm now and wanted to know if they were open yet. He said NO and continued putting up his umbrella clearly not bothered by my annoyance that they were not open on time. I decided to go home and make lunch instead. They obviously did not care about keeping to their posted hours or customer service. I decided to give it another try the other day because of my love for Jamaican patties. It was after 1pm, I walked past and it was dark inside. I held my breath as I tried the door. It was open. I went inside and went to the counter and asked for two Jamaican patties. I was shocked to hear that it is EAT IN ONLY. I couldnt believe what I was hearing. I asked him again. I cant take these now and go home? The reply We dont do take-out. I was truly shocked. Ive traveled to many Caribbean islands and this is unheard of, that you cannot order a pattie and go about your business. This is street food, not dine-in food. I walked out and will NEVER GO BACK. Sometimes people just want to order food and take it back to the office or eat at home. Especially since their menu has a selection of sandwiches. This place will not last long. Its too bad, because I love Caribbean food. Ill take my business elsewhere.
I did not get any food but had some drinks with friends and the friendly staff let me sample a few of their very impressive collection of Rhum. Very next experience.
Had lunch there today and cant wait to go back for dinner. Awesome Caribbean dishes, both authentic and with some unique twists. Plus the best rum selection I have ever seen.
SUPERB cocktails, tasty food, great staff, cool decor. Love it.
Amazing drinks and food especially loved the corn and fries! Great vibe a fun Friday night!
Palm Tree Kitchen is one of the most welcoming, warm and hospitable places Ive been to in Halifax. The music is fantastic, the vibe is relaxed and friendly and makes me think of warm evenings spent with a rum punch in hand after a long day on the beach. The cocktails are stunning, and the rum selection is designed for the Rummelier and the every day rum drinker alike. I cant wait to come back to Halifax and spend some time with the food menu. Thank you!
The drinks and vibe here are unreal. Knowledgeable and fun staff. Would highly recommend.
Finally got the chance to visit this new rum bar (opened on July 1, 2023). We arrived later in the evening so just had drinks. Great selection of rums from the Caribbean. You can try flights, cocktails or select off their well stocked shelf. It is a tiny little spot with a big vibe. The servers are great. Met the owner Demetrious Ferguson who was cooking in the open-view kitchen. He is quite a character and quite an entrepreneur. I have been telling all my rum enthusiast friends to visit. Cant wait to go back to try the food. Well done Demetrius!!!
