Got to have their tasting menu at their Bliss Caffeine Bar pop-up and it was amazing! Every course was so delicious and the service was great. Definitely plan to seek out another one next time we're in Halifax from Toronto!
Their tasting menu was world class. Duck was cooked to perfection, their take on chicken and waffles was very unique, and overall every dish was incredible.
Sooo delicious!! One of the best restaurants in Halifax (if not the best one in my opinion). The live music was also amazing, every Thursday evening (March and April).
We went for the Wednesday tasting menu and opted for the wine pairings as well. I ordered the vegetarian version. It was a great experience. The staff are wonderful, too. Each dish was punctuated with different tasty flavours. The presentation was spot on. For $85 plus $35 for the wine pairings, it was a fantastic experience.
Very high quality, well presented, great balance of flavour, great ambiance, had a very good time and done a delicious meal. The raw scallop appetizer was simply amazing.
Such an amazing experience! The tasting menu was fantastic, the chef delivered quality and variety. The staff are very professional and made our visit memorable. I enjoyed it so much that I booked a reservation that day to come back and try their regular menu!
One word review summary: Perfection! :) The food & experience at Hop Scotch Dinner Club are amazing. Each course of the meal left me feeling satisfied and with a sense of longing for more! I feel that each dish was planned and executed to perfection. The flavour profile in each dish is amazing! Everything on the plate tastes incredible by themselves and make a perfect dish together. Being a vegetarian, I honestly did not know what to expect, but I had seen their posts about vegetarian options on social media, and decided that I’d take a chance. Proved to be the right decision in the end. I loved the whole experience. The staff are caring and the food is amazing. I will be returning and am happy to recommend this place! Edit: just had the tasting menu at Hop Scotch! My goodness! Again, I cannot find more words than “perfection” to summarize my dining experience. Thank you, chef Stephanie, for the amazing creative dining experience!! 🙌😊
A pretty decent brunch! I had the sweet potato hassle back and it was MUCH more filling than it looked. It tasted really fresh and light. The coffee was really good and our Server was excellent. A friend had the French toast and stated it was REALLY sweet, so be aware of that if you want your French toast fix.
Fancy and good quality food
99 cent potato chips .. great price
Dining at the Hop Scotch Dinner Club, I was blown away by one dish in particular. The scallops were just divine, seared to a perfect crisp on the outside while remaining incredibly tender and juicy on the inside. Its rare to find that balance executed so flawlessly. Then there was the nduja sauce and red lentils oh, what a pairing! The sauce added just the right kick, and the lentils brought a comforting earthiness that grounded the dish. And those fermented carrots? Their sharpness and the skill in their preparation were nothing short of impressive. The dish was also a treat for the eyes, adorned with calendula petals and a drizzle of their oil, adding a splash of color and a hint of elegance. It was an unforgettable experience, a beautiful blend of flavors, textures, and visual appeal, all thanks to the creativity and skill of the chefs at Hop Scotch Dinner Club.
Such an incredible team! Anything Stephanie comes up with will make you drool. Would give 10/10 stars if I could!
Very weird plates. This is by far the worst restaurant I have been to in North America. The whole restaurant has a stinky expired egg smell. Avoid at all cost.
More people should be raving about HSDC. Brunch is special. Dinners have all been wonderful. Their take home dinners kits are also spectacular!
Are here for new years and the take out was awesome! Some different food out of the ordinary also which was nice
Well worth a visit on any trip to Halifax. Pork belly was a textual delight - crisp exterior, soft interior, never chewy but rather fatty in a luxurious way, not a greasy one. Duck similar - crisp skin, firm and moist meat, also with a lovely pavé. Dark chocolate budino for dessert was very rich with coffee and chocolate flavours. Nice pairings, excellent service.
Excellent service, halibut was to die for, and dessert looked and tasted ahhhmazing! And the cocktails were devine!
Great food! Excellent service. Cocktails were lovely
Food was excellent on a concise menu. The beef tartare is a must try!
Partner and I decided to try this spot after hearing many good things and we have no regrets. Firstly Id say the food is certainly underpriced - would have happily paid more (their apps are cheaper than a chain!). Service was fantastic and pacing was great. I was not a huge fan of the aesthetic - it felt somewhat disjointed and/or plain. I do understand they are moving, and frankly that might be for the better. Food was basically spot on. Flavors were complex, but not unnecessarily sophisticated for the sake of doing so. All plates felt like they were inspired from the heart, rather than a bid to seem upscale with gimmicks. My only critique is that the duck felt slightly over, meanwhile the fat was not rendered quite enough. Partner had risotto which I felt had broken slightly. Despite these minor items, I would highly recommend checking this place out when they open their new spot. :)
Remarkable! Id go back at any opportunity.
We had takeout on their last day of service, as theyre switching to pop-ups until sometime in the fall 2022. The meal was absolutely top shelf, we asked for takeout due to covid defence and no issues - the meal was top rate and the flavours came through amazingly. Not a substitution for dining in of course but its amazing what they were able to do. Good luck on the new enterprise!
The team at hop scotch never fail to provide a stellar dining experience. Seasonal, and regional influences as well as the keen attention to detail will keep me a loyal customer wherever they relocate to!
I hired Hopscotch Dinner Club for dinner for 6 at our home and it was an amazing experience. I made a few suggestions for food and they put together the perfect menu accompanied by the ideal wines. Excellent communication during the planning process. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Our guest were very impressed. I would highly recommend this culinary team. For us it will be one of those unforgettable dining experiences.
I ve ordered the take home tasting menu three times now and they have all been superb. The skillful preparation and use of ingredients is really impressive. Keep up the great work! These meals have been a real treat to look forward to at the end of a busy week
Most delicious and creative dining experience ever
The food and service at Hop Scotch are both top notch! The lamb and Duck were both rich and generous portions and perfect comfort dishes for a chilly winter day. I am a sucker for Devilled Eggs and the crisp chicken skin and Japense seasonings for a fun and delicious twist on a old favourite. The Winter Pavlova was as much a treat for the eyes as it was for the palette (Bay Leaf Pastry Cream was an eye-opener and a new flavour inspiration for my ice cream shop)... Speaking of ice cream, the house made sorbets and ice creams were also very well done (this coming from a maker of ultra-premium ice creams). Highly recommend.
Lovely evening. Attentive staff and wonderful atmosphere. Had tuna tartar, scallops and the hassleback sweet potato and could have eaten 3 more of these dishes. Highly recommend!!
Lovely and friendly service, good wine, like the new décor... Also respected the social distancing norm, which some restaurants dont do (sadly). My main, halibut was a nice thick piece, well cooked, but I didnt necessarily love the sauce and el dante peas in which it was served. I like my peas cooked, but not mushy, and a bit more flavour to the dish would be good. My hubby really liked his lamb shank dish, I had a taste, was savoury! Our chocolate dessert was also very tasty. Would go back again and curious to hear about other dishes. Congrats to the new owners!
I came here for brunch with my partner who is vegan. She loved the mushroom schnitzel and I had the breakfast plate with fishcakes. Everything tasted like it was created with care, and I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the city.
We ordered: (Appetizers) 4 Deviled Eggs, Tuna Tartare, and the amazing Sour Cream Potatoes dish. Recommend all 3, especially the potatoes. And then, we ordered 4 mains: Duck, Sweet Potato, Lamb Shank, and a combo of the Sausage and Scallops dishes. I just have to say, every dish was excellent. Not a single one was just good, or very good. Each felt very creative, extremely fresh, and very tasty. It was really impressive going A+ for 5 dishes. Each of us was beside ourselves sharing the dish. A wonderful experience. And Evangeline was our waitress, she was great and friendly, made the experience better.
Tuna tartare, scallops with risotto and duck breast were all amazing
My husband hosted a private dinner party for my birthday at the Hopscotch dinner club last night. From beginning to end the experience was awesome. They helped us plan the perfect menu for a seven course meal that my guests and I enjoyed like nothing else ever in Halifax. The service was impeccable. I am so excited we have this place in our midst. We ll be back many times.
Had the mushroom schnitzel sandwich with the salad and potatoes for brunch and it was amazing! Beautiful presentation, great and friendly staff. I was so engaged in conversation I forgot to take a picture of the beautiful presentation, but would definitely recommend. The restaurant also has the original bank vault from back in the day, which is now a private dining space for 4. Edit: had the opportunity to go back for brunch recently, Ive attached a picture of the mushroom schnitzel.
The food was delicious and the service was amazing! Loved every minute, every dish, and every cocktail.
Great meal on all counts.
I WILL BE FOREVER HAUNTED WITH THE MEMORY OF THE TUNA TARTARE I ATE TONIGHT
We ordered Hopscotch at Home for my birthday and it was incredible. The food was freshly packaged with very clear and simple heating instructions. The food was delicious and complex. We had a special request with our order and it was accommodated without issue. We will definitely be ordering again and dining at the restaurant once it re-opens!
Cant go wrong with Hop Scotch. One of Halifaxs hidden gems. We stopped by last night for the seven course tasting menu. My partner and I have been lucky enough to travel the world and eat at some of the best restaurants in Paris and Montreal. This tasting menu out did any of those restaurants. The vegetarian options are not to be missed, and if you see duck on their menu, order it. Cant wait to go back!
Amazing tasting menu! Missing photo of tuna tartare and marigold sorbet.
I didnt really enjoy the dishes here. Everything was almost there with some great components, but they all had something missing. Presentation of the dishes were excellent, though flavours and balance were a bit off. If I have to pick a favourite, it has to be the devilled eggs. Tuna tartare could use more acidity overall and needed an edible vessel (chips, or baguette). Kohlrabi was very greasy and I believe the temperature of the oil was off when the food hit the fryer. Duck breast was cooked to perfection, though sides were underwhelming and it didnt feel like a well composed dish. Risotto was a bit overcooked and mushy but scallops were great in that dish. Cocktails were underwhelming, so I will not recommend this place if you here for that.
The atmosphere here is so welcoming, and the service and food is fantastic. I had the Gin and Tonic special, and Chicken Croquettes to go along with it, I couldn t have been anymore pleased with the results! Not too mention the live music which just went along with the vibes perfectly, even though this was my first time, I felt like it was my 20th- can t wait to go back.
This restaurant is a must do for all foodies. . There are so many over rated places frequented by tourists, that can not hold a candle to this establishment. We have now been there 3 times including a tasters night and have been blown away all 3 times. We went with a friend from TO last night and he could not have been more pleased. Service is also amazing. Keep doing what u are doing , you have an amazing formula for success !
Delicious brunch and great service
Superior food and service. Nice atmosphere.
Terribly disappointed! After a spectacular meal when they were a pop-up, I came last night with high expectations. At first, we were offered a table in the center of the room, with a full view into the kitchen, when there were many others unoccupied in a more attractive space. We requested another spot, which was much more suitable for our small party. Fortunately, it was accommodated. Our wine selection was fine, though it was so cold, I couldn t get any bouquet or flavors until I d warmed it with my hands. The appetizers were pleasant, but nothing special - the zucchini blossoms were nearly drowned with a cream cheese stuffing, and the chicken croquets were uninteresting. My risotto with scallops was fine at first bite, but then the peppercorns and salt took over and overwhelmed the scallops, which were cooked beautifully. I wasn t able to finish, as the spice kept on coming . Service was perfunctory, though the bartender/wine steward was very engaging, and our server was able to neatly divide the bill so we could treat one of our party to the meal. I did finally have to pour the remaining contents of the wine, as no one came along to do that. Finally, the live music was so loud that conversation stopped entirely during their numbers. I was glad that we were near the end of our time there. On a positive note - the dessert was lovely. The zucchini chocolate was rich and moist, and accompanied by just the right amount of frosting, a tempura battered blossom. and scoop of delicious ice cream. It was shared by three of us, but I could easily have eaten one all by myself. I do hope this was an off night for the kitchen, but I ll need a lot of encouragement to want to come back again.
Always have a good time there!
Delicious!
Delicious meal and cocktails, and great service. Especially recommend the pork belly, halibut and duck breast.
Attracted by the cute rabbit logo and the neat environment, turned out to be one of the worst bars I ve ever been. This place has everything attractive on a SURFACE level, craft cocktails, live music, and good looking food! However, we ordered their signature cocktail hop scotch and it was overly sweet and overpowered all other ingredients, might as well call it hop syrup. The cardamon cocktail was okay, slightly off balance just needed a tiny bit more syrup and a better garnish (a cardamon instead of a lemon wheel). The food was not impressive either, the pork belly was very fatty and had a salty crust that doesn t take very balanced, the beef tartare was served on a sad soggy cold waffle. Last but not least the live music, there were absolutely no chemistry between the three performers, when we first walked in we thought there were first year music students but they certainly don t have the same appearance as those, absolute amateurs creating noises, no harmony, no musicality, just made some sounds that annoyed us the whole 20 minutes before we had enough and left.
Food and flavours are fantastic.
Wonderful experience, delicious meal, room a little noisy when there are people
My first experience at Hop Scotch was flawless. The atmosphere is cozy and classy. The meal was divine. Patrick provided excellent service and was very passionate in the way he spoke about menu items.
Great tasting menu for an extremely reasonable price, though I consider myself extremely well traveled in terms of food I found several new flavor combinations, which really left me surprised.
I wanted to try Pavlova and it exceeded my expectations. Our water was friendly and other food was great too.
Do yourself a favor and make your way to Hop Scotch for thoughtfully composed and prepared to perfection dishes along with spectacular service.
My husband and I went out to Hop Scotch for a date night. Our experience ended up being disappointing and rushed. I had called in advance to check in that there were vegan options on their Wednesday menu. We ordered an appetizer and main each. I was told by the server that the ravioli could be made vegan stuffed with a tofu filling. When my main came it was some spaghetti noodles, and a couple diced up vegetables and cubes of tofu, with no sauce. It also was an $18 item and was smaller than an appetizer serving. I finished my meal in approximately 5 small bites. I mentioned to the waiter that he said it was going to be ravioli and he changed his response to something along the lines that the vegan version was a spaghetti option and left. To make the experience worse, the waiter made our experience rushed. My husband had a glass of red wine and we both had an appetizer and main in a an hour. Our reservation was for 7pm and my husband was writing an e-mail of our disappointing experience to the restaurant e-mail in the car at 8:10pm. This experience was 1-2 months ago. I was giving the restaurant time to respond to the e-mail my husband sent. But since we have not heard back, I decided to write this review. We will not be dinning at Hop Scotch Dinner Club again.
Just a window in the wall, this place had delicious and gorgeous strawberry shortcake! Was so good and fresh, worth the trip.
Simply amazing. Stephanie and her team are doing great things here.
Amazing food. Great price. Hard working kitchen and front staff.
Love the new stuff they are doing here at Hop Scotch! The food was excellent and the service was great. I look forward to going again!
Lovely food-- the market salad was totally wonderful. Service was really nice and portions were bigger than expected!
I rarely write reviewed unless I am blown away but the depth and profile of flavour in each dish we ordered constitutes the title of some of the best food weve had in the city. And whats great is you can have an experience like this that doesnt break the bank. We will be back.
Good but nothing more. The dishes lack greenery, the duck breast doesnt taste much and the salad was disappointing (very little vinaigrette, pickled onions and corn. On the other hand, the tartare starter was successful, very tasty and the main course was Absolutely tasty scallops. Portions are smaller than in other restaurants of the same caliber. I dont think Ill go back.
Stunning food and service with a menu based on fresh, local ingredients.
One of the best dining experiences Ive ever had. The duck breast in particular was phenomenal, as was the smoked eggplant babaganoush
Excellent service and food. Nice to be able to bring your own wine and pair it ahead of time.
Fantastic. Excellent food and service.
Perhaps the hype set my expectations to high but there were several issues. Mainly, the food was not up to par. Bland, clearly cutting corners to save costs. I had the chowder, lamb, ribs, potatoes. The chowder didnt remember a chowder. The lamb and potatoes shared the common trait of being underseasoned. The ribs are worth it and well done. There were no cocktails available and the server who was his second day, didnt know the menu. He also was either having an off-night as he brought several apps to a table with no side plates and cutlery. Furthermore, the atmosphere is depressing. Something is dreadfully operationally wrong. The staff were very inviting and friendly.
Service was extremely poor. Was very slow and even once we got our bill we then waited 20 minutes before having to go to the bar to ask to pay as our server wouldnt come back. The food was fairly good but service sort of ruined experience.
Delicious food!!! Super friendly staff. Everything was plated so beautifully. Definitely a spot for a foodie
