5972 Spring Garden Rd, Halifax, NS B3H 1Y7, Canada
Simple storefront with an expansive menu of familar Chinese fare, with some Thai & Japanese dishes.
The food was tasty and the portions were large, however, the staff was a little surly and slopped food all over the table, and never came back up to clean it up. Which tracks because the restaurant was so filthy it is amazing to me the health board hasn't taken an active interest... the bathroom was nasty, and the floors looked like they've never been cleaned. Anyway, they were doing a brisk take-out business which also tracks...
Excellent Chinese food lots of food chicken balls not bad lots of leftovers. Sorry could not delete the anytime fitness pic
I ordered online from Jeansrestaurant.ca,it has “buy one roll get one free”and “10% off ”offer, delivered to my home .Really good deal! It’s a great meal, good value and delicious.Thank you so much I will recommend to my friends.
Sushi are great! But 1 get 1 free plus 15% off…we have been offered 3 miso soups! Nice treats, strong recommendations!
I’ve had it 10+ times. For the price, the quality and portion size is excellent and very consistent. I can put it back, and the combination dinners always fill me to 110%. Forget the negative reviews, it’s bang for your buck and consistent every time. Some people look for the negative everywhere, just try for yourself.
Worst experience.... Ordered pork bbq slices and veg chowmein. I have never seen a watery chowmein in my life. Chowmein must be dry but the chowmein I got was very watery like a soup noodles and tasteless , pork bbq slices was below average too... I ordered spicy too and both were not spicy.. I called them and gave feedback they said they'll change the chowmein and delivered another one but it was safe as before(watery and tasteless), i couldnt eat after 2/3 spoon. And its not written anywhere that their bbq pork slices comes with sweet honey sauce. Theres better restaurants dont order from here
The food was old cook from the night before dried up ribs they add 3 fresh ones, Chicken chow ming was a mess wasn't chicken some kind burnt meat might been cat, dog who knows, egg roll was so white inside. I advised anyone not to eat from Jean's, then didn't want to return food or my money back went to store very, very dirty.
Conveniently located at the edge of Spring Garden Road, Jean’s is a classic fusion of Asian and Western cuisine that we’ve come to expect over the last couple of decades in North America. The restaurant was meticulously clean and the decor and atmosphere were quite welcoming. While language barriers may stop you, the Chinese menu definitely hides most of what the restaurant has to offer. We were a big group so we were able to order quite a variety of dishes. Unfortunately, the food was quite lacklustre. It lacked much flavour, some of the meat was undercooked, and the spice was extremely watered down perhaps to appeal to Western palates (which is fair). However, the owner was extremely kind and this was one of the best service I had the pleasure of experiencing in Halifax recently. Her kindness alone would be worth another visit!
Go somewhere else. I ve been the this restaurant many times over the years and in the past few years it has declined and is disgusting and dirty inside. I got take out last night and while I was waiting looked around the restaurant and dirt and loads of dust everywhere and then I see mouse traps in the corners near the dining tables. If it s this dirty in the dining area then I can t imagine the kitchen any better. I m a traveler and In Most countries in the world it s a given to have a clean restaurant
I order take out always takes an hr which Im fine with but there ALWAYS late 15/30mins,last time I ordered(dec/12/2024)guy was so late I thought they werent coming and truns out they close at 9pm so I ordered a pizza no sooner finish that and my ph rings and guess who my Chinese food has shown up 2 and 1/2 hrs late,so buzzed him in,no apologies, nothing,I eat it the next day or at least I tried but it was soooo salty I couldnt eat it and ended up throwing it out,so all n all the night cost me 85$ ,I dont care how cheap or how much food they give you its not cheap if you have to throw it all out cause it tastes like they dumped a bucket of salt in it,and if you order at a certain time and they dont think they can get here cause they close at a certain time then they got no buniness excepting the order, lousey experience
Good food
BEST chinese food place in Halifax
Im staying at the IWK and needed some air, this was one block away which was the perfect distance for a quick step outside. The food was pretty good, the portions were huge and my server was great, the ideal Chinese food experience in my mind.
Look I was a OG Jeans lover from the beginning, left the city for a few years came back in 2021 and its been underwhelming, not bad just meh!. Figured new owners/workers-different tastes. So my last order was a bit shocking, got 2 entrees(includes steamed rice) and couple of spring and egg rolls. Never got the rice, the ginger beef contained actual rocks and debris!! The chicken balls smelled weird like the chicken had been marinating too long and smelled like old socks...I just cant justify that sort of service, I cant be alone just keep reporting them to the health department, how does the dining room stay open?!? Its been that way since 2007!?!? Is there even a bathroom?!? The thought of using that imaginary bathroom maintained but those people is nightmare fuel! Also stop tipping them they were using the total+tax to calculate at the time.FAFO!
Yes, I would never wish anyone to try or order anything in this establishment, just from the entrance to the inside, everything is dirty, dust, garbage both on the walls and on the floor, okay, you can see awards from 2007 to 2011, which is the best kitchen, maybe it was once, but now it s the bottom that can no longer be broken through, horror!!!! Im afraid to even imagine whats going on in the kitchen, where the services that control this whole process, I have no words, Im done
Would be 5 stars because everything I ordered was delicious! The Uber Eats bogo sushi was a great deal! Rated 4 stars because I was sent one wrong item, rather than the item I ordered. One of the sushi choices ordered. ( they fulfill their own delivery, even when ordered on Uber eats. ) Otherwise was delicious. Big portions, big egg rolls, all fresh and tasted delicious. Definitely would get again, even with the one small mix up. Still very good!
Always the best quality Chinese, I will try the new sushi option next time.
Big portions. Great value. Nice lady. Needs more lighting to make the place brighter. Perhaps some music on a Bluetooth speaker. Fortune cookie was awesome
T his was the most tasteless chinese food I have ever eaten. No taste at all.never again
Decent, lots of food.
Worst almond soo gai I ve ever had. Was super over cooked and rice was hard. Food
Nothing except the soup...and the pad Thai was okayish
Jeans is what many might call a hole in the wall. Having lived in HRM most of my 72 years. Id heard it had excellent food like The Cozy (but it was after 4) and Cousins (no longer with us) and others I could mention. The food was hot, fresh and generous portions of excellent flavour. It may have been the best Canadian Chinese I have eaten. The atmosphere is old school and I did think twice on entering but my gut said give it a try. I ate a hot meal leisurely because there was so much food on my plate and I dislike wasting, even the rice. I was sure I wouldnt finish it. I did but knew later I had overeaten. I was just too full. The feeling was not because of the wonderful fresh and extremely plentiful vegetables. The prices were inexpensive, seemed pre-COVID - extremely reasonable. On ordering I expected smaller portions. Jeans has not shrink-sized nor overinflated. Id go back again. If I had fussy company Id order take out.Not everyone enjoys the trip back in time to an old school Chinese restaurant that I did. Everyone was very kind and friendly and not at all overbearing as servers tend to be in overpriced places where too often it seems one is paying more for the atmosphere than the food. Sometimes such food is OK , even good but very small in portion, Not at Jeans! Parking: Jeans is on Spring Garden Road just east of Robie Street in Parking area D. Although prorated by the time of day this is the most expensive area to park with the least amount of parking. If you are already parked or need to run over for a meal before or after medical appointments across the street at the professional centre, Jeans is perfect. Its is also a manageable walk up from The Public Gardens. Wheelchair accessibility: No, unfortunately. Not all old Halifax buildings can be and my husband who was in a chair for a while understood that. His bigger concern was for those of us who have invisible disabilities, especially to chemicals and scents. These are in the mandate for an accessible city but he and I thought/think they are just words at the bottom on a list. He felt there were many options for a person in a chair and that too much fuss was put on that singular disability. Although, not enough emphasis was put on making wheelchair accessible facilities wherever they are easy for caregivers. Only about 25% of people who use chairs have upper body strength that allow them independence. He would have been thrilled to enjoy Jeans food in the car or at home.
Even in this economy they never skimp on their portions. Always dine in if you have the option to. You will get around 30% more food than if you order from doordash or uber. Combo 1 with egg noodles instead of rice is always a safe option. Enough for 2-3 people for only $20.
Very good in taste, bring an empty tummy.
Really good Chinese style restaurant, Good food and good service. everyone should try this place. This was the first time I loved it. waiting for another chance
I have tried this place twice hoping it would be better but the food is horrible. Wet, tasteless lo mein - worst I have ever had. Minimal meat in the dish. It was expensive for what I got (their prices have skyrocketed since last time). Every time I go it is loud. And most of the people sitting are not eating so it is really annoying. There is always this one person working here (I think she is a supervisor or something) that is never nice to the staff. One time I walked in and then straight out because of how she treated them (that was a third attempt). All in all overpriced, bad food and terrible atmosphere. Also 2$ for chow mein instead of rice? Yeah right.
Sorry not worth the $9.99 which is Advertised at $9.50 .Cold food and not great selection.
I cant comment on the food because the place was so dirty, shabby and cluttered that we turned around and walked out. I think maybe the positive reviews are based on their past reputation and wonder if perhaps there has been an ownership change since then.
Looked at the menu, wanted to get chicken chow mein, from my experience of Chinese culture since when has chow mein had bean sprout as its main and only ingredient. Chow mein literally translates to fried noodles. I m perplexed by the lack of knowledge coming from a Chinese restaurant. Decided to leave and went to get real chow mein noodles.
I ordered a roast duck, which was terrible. It smelled bad when I served it. The skin on the outside tasted hot but the meat on the inside was still cold. Really surprised, this is duck made in a restaurant? The smell makes me puke!
Best Chinese food Ive ever had
Excellent food , lovely owner, old building a little rusty.
Your chicken noodle soup is me and my cats favourite dish in your store. Beef noodle is good too. My cat loves to chew the beef chunks. Hope you offer large portion of chicken noodle soup Food
Probably the worst Chinese food Ive ever eaten other than the Panda Buffet place in Dartmouth. The tofu had a weird soapy flavour. The service was fine, but the food and the cleanliness was just gross.
I love it here. Lots of good food for a good price, always worth it! Conveniently located, one of my favourite restaurants in the city.
The portion for the price one cannot complain 5/5 Quality & taste 3/5 Speed 1/5 This was my first time and got the price one can t complain. I got a number 7 and added the Jean s chicken. It was your classic Chinese take out. I do not recommend the meat egg roll at all. If it wasn t for that I probably would have given the food a 4. My biggest complaint is I preordered in the afternoon knowing it was NYE. When I showed up my order just went in the queue for their 90kin wait, they were busy! Luckily I asked the status and they moved me up so I only ended up waiting a grand total of 45min and 35min past the time I pre-order for. Of note: 10% off for pick up if that s a driver for you. Coin toss if I try again.
Great food great prices this is my favorite spot The Thai beef was amazing
Ordered from here, received flavorless rice, fried wontons with no meat and burnt chicken. Very disappointed, will not order again.
Tasteless food and the fried rice was disgusting.
The only reason to go here was to get alot of food for cheap prices. Now theyve raised the prices. The food isnt worth what theyre now charging, you can easily get higher quality Chinese from a variety of other restaurants for what Jeans is now attempting to charge. A shame we really loved Jeans before the change.
UPDATE YOUR HOURS. Nothing more irritating than planning to pick up food for dinner only to be told they closed an hour before they re listed on google.
Good amount of food for the price. Taste wise it was okay but missed some of the colourful flavours one would expect to find in Chinese food.
I really dont understand the positive reviews. This place is awful and I feel bad for their tastebuds, so uncultured.
Their tofu is unedible. Literally couldnt eat it.
I ordered off Uber eats. There was a glitch in the order.Called them to plead my case that it is a wrong order. There were unwilling to help. Called Uber eats back. They lied and said they d correct the order. The still delivered the wrong order. I know it s a business but have some decency. Been ordering from this restaurant for years. Kid-friendliness: The moment he heard I was an African person I could tell his demeanour on the phone changed.
the staff were very kind and quick but the food was not great. enormous portions, ate my fill and the container still looked full but taste-wise it s unfortunately a miss. lots of batter on the ginger beef which isn t needed with the already large portion. the batter made me feel a little sick after a bit so i switched over to the rice. can t go wrong with staple chicken fried rice! the sauce for the ginger beef was marked as hot so i thought it d have more kick but the sugar almost put me out before i felt a hint of spice so it d be good to ask for it extra spicy if that s how you like it since i m not even big on spice myself. very very sweet though. the egg roll had a puréed meat filling i think? i m not sure since i haven t had that kind of egg roll before but it isn t my favourite. was pretty bland sadly i m disappointed but you can give it a go if you re open to it
I wont say the Chow Mein we tried were authentic, but still taste good!! Super big portion, me and my boyfriend couldnt finish one single Chow Mein! A crowded restaurant with 5-7 tables, so I only dined in Once, usually order take-out. Food
I ordered my food at 4:48 I was told 15 min I called back at 5:48 i was told again that the driver did not pick up my order was not picked up i asked him to make sure the my food was hot . Had to call back again at 6;19 he said the driver was on the way i got my food about 5 min later . My food was not hot kinda luke warm . I will never order from there again
60 dollars for dinner for 2 and spare ribs. 1 hour and 20 minute wait for cold food with no flavor and the texture of under-cooked and re heated not fresh. Stale dry ribs not sticky. Infuriating. This restaurant has gone down hill. Will order from the silver dragon next time. Edit: To put the absolute slovenliness in perspective, it took 50cents worth of beef oxo to make the rice taste like beef and take away the white from the rice, 1/4 cup of sugar $1 and 1/4 cup of lemon juice less then a dollar + a half a bottle of honey garlic sauce, $2 for a total of $4.50 it cost $6 dollars more then the last time I ordered it.
i called the restaurant and ordered mapo tofu and steamed rice for delivery. i asked if i could get mapo tofu with no pork and i could! the guy on the phone and the guy who delivered it were super nice and the food was delicious and super hot when it arrived!!!! mapo tofu is my favorite dish and of all the places ive tried here, they did it best. i recommend the restaurant and this dish!
Listen, the food here is great, but the atmosphere is bad it unfortunately turns you off from ordering from here.
Ordered food for delivery, and it was delivered earlier than expected. Food was plentiful and delicious, I love Jeans.
Not the cleanest inside but I gave it a shot anyways. Portion was big but not the tastiest compared to other Chinese restaurants.
The food was ok. I will not be returning.
I called to order food and was left waiting for almost 9 minutes. My snack is only half an hour, when I arrived I saw that I was on hold so I ordered my food in person.
Really tasty, affordable, rich and fresh. The service was exceptional. I am definitely coming back ...
Great food and services, ans they take Dalcard payment!
Food isnt as good as I remember.
The place is an institution with most Dalhousie students. It is not fancy, overly decorated, or stylish. The place offers great food, incredible service, and delivers. Have been eating at Jeans for eight years. The prices are more than reasonable, the portions are large and the food is delicious.
Great food
Food was good when it came, and very hearty portion sizes. Tons of menu options. Decor was also very interesting. But we were given dirty dishes (cups still with lipstick on them) and the table we sat at was sticky (visible globs of something). Server seemed annoyed when we asked for new cups. Tables were also quite crowded together, and the place was very quiet except the cashier on her phone, so not terribly comfortable for dining in. Several stairs to get up, accessibility may be a problem for older/disabled patrons. My company burned her hand on the radiator by her feet, so another thing to keep in mind.
The rice was not all hot,but the chicken chowmain was great was to was the egg rolls.
Soggy and flavorless. Do not recommend.
I only order very specific dishes here which works for me. Dine in service is good. Try curried chicken, Spicy chicken combo for 9.99$ and shrimps with lobster sauce. They are good.
Ordered through door dash and had my delivery brought to the wrong area HOWEVER the costumer service at the place is TOP TIER. Dawn delivered my order to my place after WORK HOURS. Once again, Dawn great customer service!
Amazing value (I recommend the lunch specials). Food is typical.
The portions are very good and the food is so good, I always order delivery and very friendly phone staff and delivery drivers. If a mistake is made they correct it with no issues..great place to eat
Decent food, huge proportions, perfect for a place located near the university. Any combo can last for two meals atleast.
Love this place! Definitely one of my favorites
The dine-in area isnt too big, so I usually get take out from this place. The quantities are great, and the food always tastes fresh!
Jeans Chinese food is delicious, inexpensive, and fast. I ve been recently eating here for about a month now and I can say it s definitely a new favourite of mine. The lunch specials are all amazing, I will be trying more menu options as keep attending. Many are saying the place itself isn t the best looking, although that may be true, it is NOT dirty. The interior is home-like and comforting. I love this place!
Was glad to see the place hasnt changed. Had a combo with fried rice and sweet and sour chicken. Both were excellent, best I have had in awhile. Also ordered chicken chow mein which I didnt care for, it tasted and smelled fishy. Prices were cheap and waitress was very friendly.
Amazing food and good portions.
great quality and value for your money. Thank you!
Great bunch of folks and the food was good. I like that you can get combo plates , single plates or dinners for 2,3 etc..the General Tao was combo was plenty on its own..bit got a beef dish as well..would go again for sute
This is an excellent Chinese restaurant if you are not pretty picky.
Very little sauce on my lo mein noodles, some had no sauce at all and it had very little taste. 3 or 4 thin slices of scallops and a few pepper slices. There were 5 or 6 large shrimp, tho they too were pretty tasteless. All in all a waste of 15 bucks. They certainly have gone downhill in the last couple of years
Ive been here 5x and was disappointed by 3 of them. The food was great on my first visit, however the 2nd, 3rd , and 4th were horrible. On my 5th visit it was amazing. Youve sucked me back in
Disappointing food quality, except the sweet and sour chicken is fabulous. Portion size is great, but I dont think we will be back.
Unfortunately, I can only say it was the worst Chinese food Ive ever had. Too much batter on chicken, rice was dry and tasteless. Chiw mein had some taste so was edible. I rarely leave food on my plate but left at least half. Extremely dirty so afraid to think what kitchen was like. My friend had about 2 mouthfuls and asked to have her plate removed. Never again, never.
Best Chinese food Ive ever had
My favorite spot in town! The jeans chicken is perfect!
Solid food
A small restaurant. Very generous portions for the price.
From the day one I have been a regular here.
The food is amazing. If you go don t be put off by the appearance and give it a try. Everything I have tried over the years tastes great and the prices are excellent. If I had to complain it would be the spicy options are not spicy enough even when you ask them to turn it up to 11.
Really happy with my first order of a combination plate from this restaurant. The combination plate 1 has fried rice, Jean s sour & sweet chicken (love it) and egg roll. The size of the portion is large which I like very much and price is fair.
Not dependable, keeps changing their words, drags you and then after waiting for long they says if you want you can cancel. I had rang them to check on the delivery timing since we were really hungry and the person confirmed it will be within an hour, after waiting for more than an hour, on my follow up call, they says its gonna take more and you can cancel if you want . So rude and unprofessional .
Really good. Great portions for the price
Quite upset with the Chow Mein as I was expecting noodles not Bean Sprouts. And nowhere its mentioned that its only bean sprouts.
Chinese food is it??The Food is a joke. Wasted time and money, Chicken tasted like it was cooked and frozen for 6 months. Ratio of veggies to meat is not right. Very disappointing.
Very nice familial atmosphere, inexpensive and very good and healthy food, very student friendly
Food was really good and quantity wise too. Only thing was customer service was little off. Other than that everything else is good.
Wait time sucks i waited for more than 30 minutes. Customer service sucks too. Worst experience
Inedible. Waste of money. Noodle dish came without noodles.
A lot for a little
Love the food and staff. Weve never been disappointed. Fav dishes ... Jeans Sweet n Sour Chicken; Chicken Sou Gai; Beef n Broccoli. We were there this evening. Its one of our Date Night spots.
Service was good, food was even better
The food was good and the waitress was on point very attentive. No better place to spend a birthday.
Im sorry, what I ordered for tonight tasted awful. It s so annoying to pay $45 for an order and you re unable to eat it. The food tasted bad and spoilt.
they can t seem to make their spicy chicken actually spicy - otherwise excellent
Need to change the hours online !!!
One of the worst Chinese food ever I eat mostly items undercooked
It was amazing fast service a huge amount of food and the quality was amazing so flavourful not greasy at all 10 out of 10 would reccomend and the ricw was so cheap for a large amount of food
Jeans has the best bang for your buck basic Chinese, they have a lunch time special and their prices all around are good for the amount of food you are getting.
The best chineese food in nova scotia we travel from the annapolis Valley all the time just for chineese food from jeans and no other
Great food!
The food was amazing, the ginger beef was ridiculously good. One of the best meals I have had in Halifax.
... I was very disappointed..the food was alright!...However my friend and I decided to eat inside and it had just about appeared unsanitary, I had to use the restroom bad! and honestly the bathroom was horrifying so I didn t even use it ..it was dirty and so was the silverware.. honestly.. I cannot support it.. I won t eat there again It was not a vibe...just being honest Ps this is not a fake review I m a real person.
The building is scheduled for demolition. Good riddence
worst poutine looks like somebody puke on it and shame on the owner just said its fake . do see the receipt
This place has been voted as the best Chinese take away in HRM. And they deserve it. Excellent food, huge portions, and extremely FAST! Ill definitely will be back.
I just ordered from here through doordash and Ill tell you it was cold and uncooked Ill never order here again thats why I gave them a 1 *
Middle of the road, well prepared but basic, general tso more sweet and sour than General tso. Huge portions. Near university so more targeted towards student budget and palate.
What can you say about Jeans that hasnt already been said, best Chinese food in the city
I felt terrible after eating here, threw up when i got home. they had big portions, cheap, the rice was best part, don t recommend the meat (i got the mongolian beef)
Underwhelming. All the authentic beef/chicken dishes are the same deep fried protein/veggie combo with a different sauce. Not even good for a late night, no other option scenario. not an authentic experience *this is a real review. Do yourself a favor and go else where
good portion. fast preparation and delivery. not edible. its so freaking sweet. i ordered beef steak chinese style. i do not think any food is supposed to be this sweet. Owner says fake review is just funny! Honestly, food would taste alright, maybe even good if there was not insane amount of sugar in it. Please improve your food, instead of acting like its fake. Take responsibility. Acting like the earth is flat just because you think it is, will drive customers away.
Had Jeans Again tonight....as always delivered to Dartmouth Quickly Hot and Delicious...Love this place!
The food might not be perfect, but it is very good and affordable. The employees over there are all very nice people. The boss Jeans is also very kind. I will definitely recommend the restaurant to my friend. They are currently improving their service, and I hope their business can get better.
I ve been ordering from Jean s for 20 years and the value is still the best in the city. Large tasty portions, packaged well, and they ve pretty much never messed up an order (I order once a week). Tonight I tried their Shanghai noodles for the first time (delicious by the way) and they sent me a handwritten note telling me how to order them for a cheaper price the next time (hint: add them to the combo). I was very surprised but grateful at this small act of kindness and thoughtfulness. I even had my kids read the note so we could talk about how small gestures can have big impacts. Thank you Dawn and thank you Jean s!
No soya sauce provided for completely tasteless soup as well as tasteless entree of barbecue pork and noodles. Soup was wonton and noodles. Not happy.
Always takes forever to arrive and theres always an issue. This time no honey garlic in the honey garlic ribs...just salty old dry ribs......
Debit machine didnt work at door. The containers were covered in sauce and a mess to deal with. Not everything that was ordered was delivered, which I didnt realize until after I paid for it.
Was closed at 10pm on a normal Thursday when it says you close at 11pm? Didnt pick up phone and walked all the way here for nothing.
Food is low-quality . Don t expect much here. Not authentic chinese. Your typical canadian-chinese. I don t see many chinese/asian people eat here. Pretty much mean the food is not good(which is true). Two stars because staffs are nice and it is edible.
Great food, the portions were large and the food was freshly prepared, fast service, definitely some of the best Chinese food I have ever had.
Hole in the wall restaurant. Might have been up there years ago. Place needs a do over remodeling bad! Food ???
Tried their tofu pad thai. Delicious! Jeans is a long tradition for many, reasonable prices and friendly service...
Good food for the price. Large portions. However, once I ordered delivery, specified that I was paying with cash, and the delivery man did not bring change with him. I ended up having to tip over $10.
We picked up a few meals today, the floors in the restaurant were filthy gross. The chicken balls were very hard as if they have been cooked 2 or 3 times. Not the same Jean s good quality we have had in the past.
Food is great... but not a great dine-in atmosphere.
Food is very good. Large portions, friendly staff
So disappointed with this place, thought I would give it another try but I wont ever go back here again. Honestly they should be refunding me for the horrible tasting food, liquid everywhere from the containers being squished and broken. I ended up having what feels like food poisoning from this food. Almost 60 bucks spent here, the food isnt even worth 10 bucks in my opinion. Now Im going to be stuck out money and throwing out 90 percent of the food. What a waste of money and time. Nobody should end up sick because of food theyve ordered especially after spending that much money on it. Such a huge let down !
Only got cash on u...cant get delivered without a visa
Hoping the food is good. Very Scared cause the place has not been cleaned since 1967 by the looks of it! Hoping for the best and hopefully not see the toilet for rest of my day. Should ashamed to even have a place looking as dirty as this
I ordered chicken chow mein and received an odd mix of chicken, wonton strips and bean sprouts. As well the deep fried wontons looked nothing like the menu photo and tasted like old frying oil. A complete waste of money.
Inedible
I had always liked Jeans Chinese food, but last evening I had a dinner party and placed a large order. I was upset that food was terrible, from what was suppose to be chicken balls ( more like popcorn chicken ), tasteless spring rolls, dry honey garlic ribs, and tough. Other dishes were so so. I will never recommend this restaurant anymore ! Total embarrassment for me as a host. I never mind paying good money for good food, but this was a disaster !!!!!
Massive portions, good prices, but if you eat in the bathroom is not accessible nor is there an area to change a baby. The restaurant is very small. They offer great deal for pick up and delivery though, so better to eat their food at your own home.
Good stuff! Not the fanciest food in the world, but big portions and tasty meals that never disappoint.
Great little place, easy to walk to.
Once good delivery, the quality of which began to suffer. Hopefully in the future I will still leave a positive review,
the food is amazing, and the service is ok... but honestly when it comes to hygiene, they are lacking a lot. the place is not the most appealing.
Great food. Awesome amount n price
Worst Chinese food in a Nova Scotia. Health & hygiene dangers. Update: November 2nd: two out of a group of 5 people who ordered from here have been violently ill for 7 hours into the evening and early morning after eating delivery from the night before. One is a child. No one felt good afterwards. This place should be shut down by health authorities. Absolute corruption that a place like this is allowed to operate. Health authorities do not care about your wellbeing and that this vile operation is allowed to continue proves it. Somebody must be getting a kickback to look the other way.
Love the food.
Place is a dump but food was great
Best Chinese restaurant there is .
I have ordered delivery twice. Tried three dishes so far. Jeans spicy beef was just as described and I really liked it the first time so I ordered it again. It is a great dish over rice and the portion was very generous and good for a couple of meals. Shanghai noodles were also good and reheated well. The ginger chicken was ok; lots of chicken but its breaded and the flavor was really sweet and not very hot. If it was spicier I would have liked it more. All the dishes were reasonably priced and came in recyclable containers with the exception of the accompanying rice which was in Styrofoam to keep it warm. I would order from here again
I am surrounded by Chinese food places where I live and I still order from Jeans. A delivery driver from there is the first person who ever found my house without directions. I assume I must be chipped from a previous order and thats how they know where I am. So long as they use this data to deliver deliciousness and not retribution Ill keep ordering.
We ordered out from jeans today the food was ready in 15 min and really hot the sevings were large which was great for leftovers. Chicken balls are delicious. We will be definitely eating here again.
Dont eat the Thai food, everything else are pretty good The Thai food just way too sweet
Best Chinese for me and very affordable ... The quantity which they give us awesome ... My fellow Indians you should try this restaurant ... Everyone else too
Took almost an hour and a half to deliver. Was told 45 min. Legit fell asleep waiting for the food to show up and missed the call. Called back 5 minutes later apologizing, with the intention of offering extra money for the missed call (even though they were almost an hour late!!) and got chewed out by the lady working at the restaurant. I m a good customer and have ordered regularly, always tip well, and to not even be afforded a second to explain myself on the phone is insane. Order elsewhere! Place is an unsanitary looking nightmare if you ever visit in person as well. Could explain the stomach issues some have complained about!
This is hands down the greatest Chinese restaurant in Halifax, and one of the best in all of Canada.
Best authentic Chinese I have ever had! I highly recommend going for lunch as its like $8 for what would be 2 meals for me. I always have leftovers
Great place awesome portions
Excellent Chicken fried rice. Wont say the same for other items though so price is kinda fair: You get what you pay for. The dining area seemed small, dark and gloomy. Could use a little makeover. They accept Dalcard.
Was good and cheap price
Food and service were very good. Portions were huge! Great value for your money.
My lunch special was $8 for a mountain of rice, around 7 chicken balls, and a spring roll. Tough to finish, and a huge quantity for only 3 types of food.
Yum yum...
Large portions and a cheap price. Not the most quality ingredients. Lots of msg but not unusual for chinese food.
Very cheap. For those who have just come to Canada and want to eat Chinese food, this place is recommended. The cheapest bowl of noodles only costs about 10 Canadian dollars.
Long wait for delivery and sub par food. Awful egg rolls and wontons....both thrown away!
So delicious
One of my most favored food spots in the Dalhousie area, if only just for the reason that it offers one of the only non greasy options for late night food. The staff here are also really kind, and youll occasionally find a small gathering in its cozy environment.
Where to begin? I guess with the worst, the fried wontons. I put wontons in quotes as wontons, by definition, have a blob or meat or other filling inside their fried wrapper. Jeans doesnt understand this. Their wontons were just fried chips of egg roll batter with no dumpling filling to speak of. Just dry, half stale, scummily greasy pieces of egg roll wrapper. Never have I seen a place try to pass off chips as wontons. It was astounding. The wontons wouldnt be that bad if they werent fried in the same mystery oil as everything else in the restaurant. This shared oil imbues everything it touches with a slight but very noticable taste of fish and chicken fat rendering anything that has been placed in it a off-putting, eerily mysterious flavour area. The fried chicken balls were questionable at best and physically revolting at worst. The coating was the same bland, slightly fishy oil and batter combo seen in the wontons and the chicken seems to be composed of several malfitting chunks of chicken giving a single chicken ball multiple textures of meat as its being bitten through this giving the whole experience an anxiety inducing uneasy of never knowing what may be bitten into. The egg roll was your average mince meat paste in a wrapper but, like everything else fried, contained a fishy taste and a strange oil that leaves a slick scum on the inside of the mouth. The chicken fried rice was surprisingly good but Im not sure if thats just because its night impossible to get chicken fried rice wrong or if everything else in the meal was of such low quality that it just seemed like a shining beacon of flavour at the end of the arduous journey that was the trek through the rest of the meal. Would not, and will not, order again.
Good portions, slow delivery
Good food, reasonable price, good service!
Great Chinese food.... No wonder they are highly rated!
This was our first order from here, and We are so happy with the food, and the quality of service, thank you!! Best take out experience, if I could give more the 5 stars we would!!!
Best dam takeout I have ever had, thank you for the best tasting food ever
I absolutely hated the food. Waste of money and time.
Its cheap but so good and the portions are huge.
Great food and good price
The best Chinese food Ive ever had in Halifax

Best Chinese in Halifax
Small little place..defently could use a upgrade but food is good
Jeans us amazing!
Hi I Love the food here. The restaurant its self is lacking. It just doesnt look clean. The bathroom was horrible. I love love the food so dont want to see kitchen. If they would put a bit of scrubbing into the entrance and rest of place would be great improvement. The low rating is for the condition of the place.
Recently ordered takeout and the food was terrible. I had Mogolian beef which tasted like fish. I had to throw it out. My daughter had ginger beef and the sauce was too sweet. I will not order from here again.
Love the food and such great service.
