The Armview is an institution. Its been a favourite of those seeking a good sit-down lunch at prices that are reasonable, for several decades. The very 1970s decor and rabbit warren feel give it a certain charm. I had chowder, which was quite good. Everyone else enjoyed their meals. Service was good even though they were busy and the layout doesnt always give staff lines of sight. Parking: Parking is a weakness, with a limited number of spots, beyond which youll need to find a spot in a nearby neighbourhood.

The kids Nutella french toast are amazing and fluffy. They have the best gravy Ive ever had!

Ive been to Armview a few times since I live close by. To be fair, it deserves 3.5 stars. Theres really nothing wrong with it. It just deserves 3.5! The inside is clean and tidy, but a bit worn out. The food is not bad, but its just not that great nor exciting. The prices are a bit high for the quality and quantity you get.

Great food. No parking. Very noisy near kitchen. Small boots.

Breakfast here is excellent. Everything else is much worse. Plain and without much seasoning. I dont understand it.

Tonight Im in Halifax and decided to pull out my handy reference TVFoodMaps for a recommendation. I found the @armview restaurant and lounge. I saw a sandwich with an interesting name, the Pickle Piggy Back Burger. That caught my eye and I went for it. Its a beef patty, deep fried pickle patty and chipotle pulled pork with cole slaw. It was very good. There was a hint of heat to it as well and I really enjoyed it. #philsfoodadventures #thearmview

This is a cute retro dinner with real milkshakes and rootbeer floats. Went on Thanksgiving Monday and service was still fantastic food came quickly and waitresses were lovley. Parking is alittle difficult if you dont mind walking afew minutes I suggest parking near Walmart and walking down.

Food might be hit or miss, this last time I ordered the steak and arugula salad. It was salty as heck, meat was tender, with a garnish of arugula with too much dressing and cheese. Had to chug my drink to eat that salty mess. I usually go for a cocktail/beer, wrap or burger and I always get the coconut cream pie. Servers are always friendly, food is fast. I like looking at the rotary. One day I ll sit on the grassy area and get an ice cream. Just stay away from steak and arugula salad

I ve been following them on Instagram for quite awhile. Finally made it out and the food looks as good as it tastes!! I was so happy with my meal. Handmade burger for me and a sandwich for my friend. Both were great! The staff were friendly. The atmosphere was quaint and inviting. Totally East Coast feel. A regular was at the table beside us. She engaged in conversation. We used to visit Armview bi-weekly but after our most recent visits, we ve opted to dine elsewhere. Last weekend, we decided to give it another shot and were reminded of why we stopped going. We arrived around 2pm after running a half marathon. We wanted to treat ourselves to brunch and a drink rather than cook and quite honestly, I wish I had stayed home. We sat on the patio and were approached by a server whose attitude made it seem as if she didn t want to be there. We asked if they were still serving brunch and she firmly said no and seemed irritated that we asked. My partner reminded me that there was one all day breakfast meal so we opted to order this. I don t eat meat so I asked if I could have an extra egg and green salad rather than the bacon, ham, and sausage. The server again, seemed irritated that I was asking for a substitution. She rolled her eyes at me and said I don t think they can do an extra egg but maybe a salad instead. This seemed strange to me as the cost of 6 pieces of meat hardly equates to a handful of spring mix and one egg I asked her I didn t eat meat and to see what she could do. She said fine and took my partners order. He asked for the same meal but instead of ham, if he could have an additional piece of bacon and sausage as he doesn t eat ham, again the server was irritated with us and made us feel like we were annoying her just by being there. It was extremely uncomfortable so we decided to move inside with the hope that we d have another server. Once we went inside, we were approached by a different person who said it was no problem to sit inside. Then, our original server from outside came over and slammed water down on the table. My partner apologized for moving and said it was too hot outside and before he could finish his sentence, the server said no problem and was walking away. We were one of 7 tables in the whole restaurant but felt as if we were a bothersome to her. She brought our drinks over (a coffee and a caesar cocktail) and again, slammed them down on our table. We were perturbed at this point and quite upset with the way we were being treated. About 15 minutes later, she came over with our food. My meal had a Caesar salad on it with bacon bits as the salad side. Being that told her I didn t eat meat, I would ve assumed she would know to not give me a salad with meat on it. I have also never seen a breakfast come with a Caesar salad. It s typically a mixed green or green salad again, this was strange. I mentioned it to the server and she rudely said, um, you didn t ask for no bacon bits. I told her I would ve assumed she would ve known this given my food order and mentioned that I would ve preferred a green salad. She laughed and said, I thought you wanted a Caesar salad. I said, I didn t ask for A Caesar salad, I asked for a green salad. She rolled her eyes and picked up my plate and walked away. 10 minutes later, my plate was dropped off again. The eggs and hashbrowns were reused from the first plate and were cold and there was a green salad on my plate. As I was eating the cold eggs, I noticed bacon bits in them and that my toast had no butter. The manager came over to ask how everything was. At this point, I told him that we were shocked by the service and that my eggs had bacon bits in them when I don t eat meat. I also asked for butter and hot sauce at this point since this was as the first time my second meal was checked in 10 minutes. My partner also had issues with his meal and was only able to mention it at this point. He ordered over easy eggs which arrived hard and he did not receive the extra sausage or bacon; they merely took the ham off of his meal. After mentioning all of this to the manager, we were told that our drinks would be taken off the bill. While this was a nice gesture, the proper solution would have been to take care of the meals we had numerous issues with. When going out and paying for your meal, you d assume that your order will arrive how you ve asked for it. We won t be back to Armview after this experience.

Very comfortable spot with friendly staff. Its a great regular spot for anyone that lives nearby, and the lawn seating during the summer is really nice and relaxing.

Food portions were small for the price. We wont be going back mainly due to the filty restrooms. Smelled like poop, after it was just cleaned. Disgusting smell of poop! Food tasted good but hard to get that smell out of your mind while eating.

A Halifax staple! It should be a stop for anyone visiting! Love the decor, the food and the service. One of the best fish chowders in the city! The apple crisp is to die for and service is always excellent.

Fish is small if you want big fish and chips this just aint it!

Its hard to find liver and onions, a treat from my past, but they have it here and it was perfect. I saw they have Montreal smoked meat as well. Id like to go back to try it. Decor could use an update, but my lunch partners thought it was part of the charm. Note: Very little parking, so youay need to park up the hill at a large lot and walk down.

We thought wed found a nice inexpensive place to have breakfast. The food was decent and the service was good but the place...there was a distinct urine smell. Also, charging $3 for very bad coffee makes this place not so inexpensive anymore.

The food and prices were great, servers were a bit behind but nice overall. We sat on a patio and it was quite noisy.

Fantastic food. Delicious tacos and wraps. Good service. Parking is a bit treacherous but we will definitely go back to try the brunch menu. Parking: There s a free parking lot but it s a bit small so you may have to look elsewhere at peak times.

An absolutely beautiful little spot with lots of amazing seating outside and a calm relaxing inside dining area. I orded the fish and chips with a side of gravy. The home cut fries were surprisingly my favorite part of the dish, I couldnt stop eating them even after I was full to the brim. When I tried to give the waiter two $20 bills to pay, he only took one $20 bill and told me to have a great day. My order total was something like $20.18. I highly recommend this establishment.

The Armview is a Halifax institution, offering consistently great food and service at an affordable price. They know their lane and stay in it, not getting too fancy and expensive, but offering excellent, family friendly menu options with a cozy, neighbourhood diner vibe.

On a nice warm summer evening, in the golden light of dusk, sitting on the side of the rotary somehow feels scenic. I loved the drinks and the patio. We had a Shirley Temple, and a Strawberry Milkshake. We both had Chicken Cacio E Pepe and while it wasn t my favourite, my partner loved it. Service was awesome.

Outdoors picnic tables dog friendly, with a reduced menu. We went beautiful day in June, lots of breeze coming down through the 5km gully. My daughter and wife got cold Vegetarian options: Veggie burger my wife didn t eat, because it was too squishy, I ate it and thought it was good but I m not picky.

My fiancé and I love the Armview park! Awesome selection of ice cream and even better service. We had ice cream on our first date and came here to take engagement pictures to reminisce. Had an unfortunate experience in the beer garden...we ordered food only to hear after a long wait that a mistake had been made with our order. Mistakes happen so we were ok with that but after waiting another long while it was apparent they had simply reissued the order without moving it up in the queue. After another long wait and still no food we finally left to go home to eat. Disappointing that they didnt deal with the mistake more proactively.

Went to Armview for dinner and to sit outside on the picnic tables by the grass area with my husband. As we walked in and asked the server if we could sit outside, she instantly said I don t think there is space when there was an empty table right behind her on the picnic tables. From the get go she clearly didn t want any more tables. Once we showed her the empty table she said sure you can sit there. We ordered our drinks and food. We sat and waited for the food for 90 minutes. We understand it was a busy evening at the beginning with the nice weather but people started to leave, it started to get empty, there were people who came after us and ate their foods and left while we still waited for our meal. The server didn t even come to our table to let us know but kept sending others to the table to tell us it should be ready soon. After waiting 90 minutes we gave up and got up to cancel our order and ask for the bill for the two drinks we had. The server didn t even seem phased and said sorry there was nothing I could ve done, I asked others to check on the food and she constantly tried to blame others for it instead of taking some responsibility or showing some compassion. And there is a lot she could ve done, she could ve offered to comp at least one of the drinks or bring something small to snack on for the inconvenience. She was not friendly, not compassionate and clearly didnt even care. We had a horrible experience and would not go back simply due to the poor customer service.

Ordered the Rotary Club with side Greek salad. Whatever was used to prep the bread for toasting was perfect. Crispy and flavourful. Our group of six were all pleased with their meals and the service was great. Would absolutely return.

This is a local gem - love bringing my family here for brunch or dinner! We had an issue with a take out order, and the manager was quick to rectify the situation and had the correct items delivered right to our door within 20 mins! Top notch service.

Everything was going well at the beginning until I saw mice, when we mentioned to the lovely server he said that they are aware and that they have many mice.. To see them while we were eating, tells me that they have a huge problem and who know where have they been, not feeling comfortable eating my meal anymore, mice transmit serious diseases.

Waiter was extremely rude and made every interaction with her uncomfortable. We came in for a light snack because we were working and had some extra time between job sites. I ordered the French toast from the kids menu, because I wasn t very hungry and wanted something light. The waiter condescendingly responded We dont serve the kids menu to adults. What difference does it make? If the item is on your menu, I should be able to order it. Could have done without her rude attitude. Won t be returning to this establishment.

So I went to the Armview for the first time ever earlier this week for fish n chips and It was soon good I had to go again yesterday. Not only did I get the biggest pieces of fish I have ever gotten at any other place in Halifax. the fish was also the freshest fish Ive ever gotten anywhere in Halifax Finally, the staff are awesome, super friendly, and I love the classic look and feeling of the place so Im gonna give this place my first 5 star review

The simple and dated look of this restaurant may appear to be just another regular cafe However don t be fooled by the looks the food is excellent. We have tried a variety of dishes and desserts and non were found to be lacking quality. The service is down home casual and very friendly but servers are quick and knowledgeable. Our only issue was the fact that mice were dancing under our table (2) and when we bought this to the staffs attention it was treated as though this was a normal situation they could do nothing about. While we still have a good impression of the food and service - if you are concerned about mice maybe wait until they have solved their rodent issues.

The quality of the seafood is great, fish and chips was crunchy with good haddock pieces, unfortunately the coleslaw was worm and tasteless.The waiter staff is friendly I would definitely eat here regularly there s great chefs in the kitchen. The wings are the best in town.

We ve just come back home after what we thought was going to be a bust of a night courtesy of our toddler, however, after a rough start she settled and we were able to eat in at the diner. We had a lovely dinner that was even more pleasant because of the staff. We will definitely be coming back for some delicious steak frites and to quote my daughter super yummy mac n cheese. Great, classic Halifax eatery. By 12 noon the place was packed, across a wide demographic of diners, from young professionals to retirees. The food was good and the service was spectacular. If you like burgers or fish, for example, you will have many choices. Parking is an issue, so you may have to park on a side street and walk just a bit to the restaurant. But its worth it.

Were held an event, reserved the back room. We all had a great time, 40 or so people came. Or only complaint was that one couple was charged separately, and had to pay their own bill because they sat at the bar , right next to everyone else, this is ridiculous! Their bill should have been included in mine. Bartender was obnoxious about this. As the host I am very upset. This is why I rated at 3 stars instead of 5

We were in add-on room I think and it was very loud, sit outside if you have the opportunity. Had a person with a walker, the washroom was very cramped. Id probably give the food a 3.5, the salmon in salmon bennie very mild, almost tasteless, fries good but not that hot , egg was a bit soft. Service was great.

This is not just another restaurant. This is a unique establishment and eating here is a transcendent experience. The staff and clientele are equally cool and groovy. Go here! Parking: Parking is in the back, entrance is to the right of the building. Keep a sharp eye or you might miss it!

We sat outside--it was a beautiful sunny day. The traffic noise was as expected being located next to a busy rotary. We enjoyed our meal--good home style cooking. The milkshake was awesome! The waitress was sweet although she seemed overextended--not her fault.

Came with the family and sat in the patio. On a main road so a little noisy during rush hour but with amazing weather who cares. Food was great and our server really attentive. He suggested the pork gyro special and I was not disappointed. One of the best flavoured gyros I ve ever had. I wish I was local because I would get that weekly. Kids chicken nuggets were homemade and tasty. Great spot, glad we found it!

A decent breakfast, but nothing was seasoned enough. But the humidity was off the charts and it wouldnt surprise me if salt simply wouldnt sprinkle. Will have to try on a dryer day.

Ordered the dingle tower burger and asked for nothing on it exept bacon and cheese. I received my burger and the burger was not how I ordered it so I mentioned it to the waiter and they offered me a new one. I was running low on time so I asked if I could get my burger to go. Unfortunately I didnt check the burger until I got home but it had more toppings on it then when I got the first one. Very disappointed and wouldnt recommend to anyone who has allergies or is a picky eater.

We had a group of 10 and didn t have a reservation but they accommodated us immediately across 3 tables. The food was really good. The lobster benny was exceptional and had good chucks of lobster (and surprisingly reasonable). The waitress was really nice and attentive.

Vegetarian review: I ordered a veggie burger and pancakes. There are not much options to choose from, just these 2 and salads. Burger was really good, must try as it has 2 patty - hash brown and beans one. Pancakes were okayish. In drinks, i ordered freshly squeezed orange juice, it was good. Ambience is cute and cozy on the patio with a roadside greenery view. Service was really slow, there was no one to attend for almost 5-8 mins to provide menu or water. Even to collect the bill no one bothered. Vegetarian options: Just 2 options on the menu - veggie burger and pancakes

Been here twice both for breakfast, the first time was pretty good. Nothing that stood out but it was a decent breakfast. The second time was disgusting. Every single item on both of our plates was under cooked. The coffee was extremely cheap and old tasting, neither of us could drink it. There s tons of breakfast places in the city that are so much better for the same price. I wouldn t go back here.

We really wanted to dine here for breakfast/brunch, but parking situation was challenging. We arrived around 11 unable to find parking. Parking by the restaurant was limited, and the lower parking lot was full. We called, and were told that these were the only options. We waited 20 mins with no success and then decided to go elsewhere. Be aware of parking might be a challenge if you plan to dine at this establishment.

The Armview has always been a favorite spot of mine. The food is fresh and delicious, the staff are very friendly, and the vintage atmosphere is super cozy. Definitely give this great spot a try, you will love it

Very nice family owned/run restaurant with a comfortable vibe. Apparently a local favorite that gives one confidence of a good choice for consistently well prepared food. A small grassed area with picnic tables next to the restaurant and an attached patio allows for dining al fresco.

Best Breakfast

Starving after a delayed late night flight, I found this highly rated restaurant open. I went to have food if any kind, instead I had such a great MEAL and amazing service from Ellen. I love seafood, and my favourite fish is halibut. I asked her to help me decide between the sandwich and the fish and chip, and going with her recommendation I had one of the best sandwiches I ve ever had! The bread, the spread and the halibut all 3 were unbelievable! I would HIGHLY recommend, and ask for Ellen too because she was great! My Caesar salad was light and delicious, and I can t wait to have it all again. But next, I have to come for breakfast and have the salmon eggs benny! :) Thanks Armview and thanks Ellen! Parking: Tight parking at the rear, and no parking on the street. Kid-friendliness: Friendly atmosphere for families!

They re breakfast is good. Outdoor set up is really nice in the warmer months. There is no parking, except for 3 or 4 spots out back.

Really fun atmosphere and great service. Breakfast is standard. They do a solid eggs Benny and their hollandaise sauce is excellent. Homefries are sometimes a bit off; they can be over-cooked/deepfried... Kid-friendly, fun regular spot for the family. Also, it is an excellent outdoor space in the summer. Update: someone on fryer is crushing it: beautiful golden homefries today (see pic) :) Dietary restrictions: Wish they allowed for modifications to their sides (half fries/salad). Kid-friendliness: Need crayons!!

Fantastic experience here! Brought my baby and they were so accommodating. The pan fried haddock was fresh as can be and 10/10 delicious! Can t believe I d never been here, will for sure be back asap!

Great food, fast service, and overall good vibes root beer float was very nostalgic

The close proximity to the busiest rotary in the city makes this place dangerous for accessing it. Be carefull of the traffic and the places to park. Service was great! The lady was very nice and we had a good time in the restaurant. Food was ok, but I did not see anthing that will bring me back there to eat. Overall, it is a good place to visit if nothing else left to be visited in Halifax.

Food is always great and never a long wait. Great drink selection. Between the bar, diner, patio, and new garden addition you have a match for any vibe of atmosphere you re feeling. To top it off with top notch staff, management, owners, and fair prices what more could you ask for?

I will give credit to the waitress but nothing else. Ordered breakfast which should have been easy. I had the bacon, eggs, toast and home fries. The home fries were cold and tasted bad. My mother ordered the same but with ham. Her home fries were the same as mine. Her ham was shaved, not sliced!!! Not a cheap place to eat so expected more. Wont be back again! Parking: Tight fit and limited spaces in back.

Great little place! Good food for a decent price. Hard to find this kind of place nowadays.
