i wasted my entire lunch waiting to be served and they served the people who came in after me before they served me, left without my food because if i didnt i would have been late back for work, thank God i hadnt paid yet.

Always a great time at Westcliff. Food is delicious traditional diner food at a very reasonable price in a traditional diner atmosphere, which is next to impossible to find these days. The banter between the owners is quite entertaining and they are always welcoming and friendly. Love to support this locally owned longtime Halifax staple. A few things to know when you go; 1) When you enter grab menus for your table as well as paper and pencil to write your tables order (all orders for one table on the same paper please). Be sure to include any drinks (including water), side choices and sauces on the paper. 2) When youve finished writing your order down, take it to the counter and give it to one of the owners. They will make your meal and bring it to your table. 3) When you are finished you bus (clean) your own table off and bring the dishes and garbage to the bins provided. 4) You then go to the cash to pay (you dont pay at the table) As someone with anxiety this was a bit overwhelming at first but now its become a unique dining experience that our family and friends enjoy. Honestly if other places lowered there prices and asked this of their customers Id be all for it. Small amount of effort to save a good chunk of change.

Immediately as I walked in everyone (including the customers) said hello and welcomed us. Caution if you are an introvert lol. Food was incredible and everything on the menu is under $10 no parking unfortunately.

I love this ma and pa restaurant so much. It truly is a hidden gem. Large portions, very affordable and they make you feel at home Vegetarian options: I had grilled cheese and onion rings!

Awesome owners/staff and the best value in Halifax.

I have been coming here since 2019, and I have absolutely no complaints. Walking into the restaurant, you are almost instantly greeted by the husband and wife that own the place. Some of the kindest people that you will meet here in the city. The food is consistently good no matter what you order, and the price is always more than fair. Stop by on your lunch break for a quick bite to eat, or bring the kids for a nice diner style dinner. Either way youll leave with a belly full of home cooked food and a smile on your face.

I used to go there this place but now that theyve raised their prices and havent increased the portions of the food, so I dont see it as being a deal anymore so go elsewhere now. Thats what happens when I place raise their prices they lose customers

My first impression of here, was old school. The place you dream of going to. Husband and Wife operating the business, giving it the mom and pop shop vibe, you know youre going to get the best food of your life. Prices were not what I expected and I believe its because they dont have staff to pay, which makes your jaw drop when you see the generous plate for such a low price compared to other places. You grab a menu and write down your own order which helps them continue cooking orders to perfection. They praise everyone for the business and company, showing they genuinely care for the people. I cant wait for my next visit to try other things on the menu! Parking: I was told there was no parking for the business, you have to park on a side street. Kid-friendliness: Booster seats available for little ones. Owners are always cheerful with the children. Wheelchair accessibility: No wheelchair accessibility.

Very friendly family run diner with delicious food and a throwback look to it! Love eating here and cant wait to get back. we got there a bit late but they still served us and gave us some good conversation!

A husband and wife team that work very well together. Theres a bar with little round seats as well as bench seats or seats that you can slip into. They have a menu if you want to look at it, but you just write what you want on a piece of paper and put it on the bar area or give it to them. They usually have 3 specials a day. The are super nice and since we go frequently they are always wondering whats going on. I usually get the Poutine and let me tell you its a giant plate! You definitely get what you want for cheap $, but its not cheap food that doesnt taste good!

Open Tuesday to Friday from 11 am to 6 pm. I could go on about how great the food, value, and old school diner atmosphere is but I wouldnt do it justice. Just go, you wont be disappointed. Get the cheeseburger with onion rings and a milkshake to initiate yourself. Best club in the city and the fish and chips are great.

Great food, better service!

Tried calling there to place an order for pick up but when I didnt get an answer we decided to just go over. This was the first time there so was unaware that they were getting ready to close for the evening. This couple were such sweet people and even though they were closing, they still took my order and stayed past closing to accommodate me. The service was impeccable and the food delicious. This is definitely a place I will return to. Thanks for your kindness

First time ever coming to this place, we were greeted by the owners, and right off the hop they were a little frustrated with us because we didn t automatically know we had to grab a sheet of paper and write down our order and phone number and then find a seat. Was kind of embarrassing how they ordered us around and talked down to us as if we were clueless and should know how this place runs by now as if we ve been here a thousand times. It was followed by many laughs from their regulars (oh well) - was even asked to get up and move to the stool bar so a gentleman who just came in could sit at the table we were at, which we happily did, and then we were asked why we did that 5 minutes later and were told to sit back down at the table again (followed by even more laughs from the regulars) . Was very confusing and embarrassing. food was awesome though, amazing prices and unbelievable portioning. We had to go and grab our drinks ourselves and grab our plates ourselves though, we weren t waited on like a traditional dine-in experience. Now that I know the atmosphere of this place and what to expect, I d come back. I just think they should ve been a little easier on us because we told them we ve never been here before and they gave us a hard time for it. Maybe to impress the regulars, that s what it felt like. But overall it was enjoyable, felt like I was at my grandparents

I called Westcliff yesterday at around 11am and asked if they could have our order ready for 11:45. They never asked me if I wanted take out or dine in so I assumed we could do either one. We got our food and sat down to eat and the owners got really upset for not saying we wanted to dine in on the phone. They kept giving us weird looks and were really rude. Not to mention the food was cold.

This is one if the most affordable diners in the city with an entertaining and friendly atmosphere. Westcliff is one open room with the kitchen being just behind the counter where you order and can sit. The ordering system is unique, you pick up a peice of paper next to the menus and write your order down and leave it on the counter. Like I said affordable food, normal diner foods burgers, sandwiches, fish and chips, with constantly changing specials. The average price of something on the menu is 6-8 dollars. They also have common substitutions on the wall near the menu so you can see prices for burger and onion rings instead of burger and fries. The food here taste like a small diner / cantine which is kind of the allure. Nothing gourmet but it feels like home. The husband and wife team running the diner makes it feel like a dinner with grandparents who bicker but love each other and that makes the experience wonderful. Cant recommend this place any more.

Like most people I will agree that the owners were a little short about having to write your order and phone number on a little piece of paper. However, this is one of the most unique places Ive been since living in Halifax for the past 5 years. They knew most of their customers by name and thanked us very much for the tip (Weve never been thanked for tipping like that!) Throughout the meal they were very friendly and tried to make us laugh. Prices are the cheapest youll find anywhere in Halifax, maybe even Canada! If youre looking for an extremely friendly and old fashioned atmosphere, and you want to feel at home, THIS is the place to go. We will certainly be back!

Wow! What can I say about this place? The food was great and had that real homemade taste. Was treated extremely well service wise and the hospitality was beyond that of awesome. The menu prices are unbelievable! I felt like I had taken a step back in time. It is a throw back to years long gone and I cant wait to return. Walked in to a very warm greeting, customers write their order on a piece of paper then relax and soak in the atmosphere.

Where do I start? This is mine and my boyfriends favourite spot. I was told by someone to check it out, and I m glad I did. You get large portions, and the prices are SO affordable. It s so good. The milkshakes, sundaes and banana splits are also so good for the price! I highly recommend it, and just wish it were open a little later, but even still, I make time when possible to get there, and it never disappoints!

My family loves this place. We bring pretty much any visitors we have to Westcliffs. The owners are hilarious and very kind!

Literally a time machine into the 70s, this spot is a great place to grab a quick bite thats also homemade and served by two of the loveliest owner/operators youll ever meet. Basic food stuffs (burgers, fries, chicken fingers, etc.) with the occasional dinner special served all day, and completely reasonable prices! They take definitely take debit, though Im not sure about credit cards. Limited hours make it a bit harder to visit during the day, but its worth it!

This place is amazing. Great burgers, great fish and chips and great milk shakes. The pricing is very special and it is a fun experience. It has a very unique feel. Unlike any other restaurant experience. It does have a slight learning curve involved. Like putting in your own order at the counter. Try it. You will like it.

It was like walking back in time, not just because he decor has likely not been updated and felt authentic, but because the service was something you wish you would see at other restaurants today. The food was phenomenal, and Tyler was an incredible host.

I was on my way out of the city but stopped for lunch due to an online review I saw. Its a Mom & Pop diner. This place was excellent! The staff were super friendly and the food was great with generous portions. And to top it off, the price was unbelievablly low. Will be back. A++

I was a bit disappointed after our visit here considering the rave reviews they have. When we walked in, we were told to write our order down on a piece of paper in quite a harsh tone. I sat at the counter to do so, and was then told to go to a table to make room for other people (we were the only ones in there at the time). I can appreciate giving the same instructions over and over can be frustrating, but it was our first time in and it wasnt clear what we were supposed to do - it was a bit embarrassing! We both ordered cheeseburgers and milk shakes. The burger was absolutely delicious - nothing fancy just great quality meat and not complicated. The fries and onion rings were good, what you would expect. The milkshakes werent particularly what I was expecting. They were quite thin; more like chocolate milk. The prices were really low - under $20 for our lunch which you certainly cant get from a fast food chain anymore. We would go back to try more items on the menu, but hope the couple was just having an off day. We hope to see their friendly side that so many others have commented on.

Best place to eat in Halifax amazing food

Westcliffe is both a unique experience within Halifax and a dream come true for the cheapskate. Travel back to the 1970s with old fashion decor, seating, and prices to boot. Upon entering, customers grab a piece of paper and pen. Customers then write down what they want from the menu and present it to the two workers at the restaurant. This is a great strategy for keeping costs down, as a waiter or waitress does not need to be hired. The two workers are very sociable and enjoy mingling with customers. Upon getting used to the atmosphere and the unique ordering method, you should feel right at home. My first meal Ive had at Westcliffe was a 3 pc. fish & chips with a chocolate milkshake. After taxes it totaled just over $11. Portions extend across the whole plate. While the food may not be from scratch, it is tasty and hard to complain when the prices are so low. Its difficult to leave the restaurant unsatisfied. Overall, I highly recommend trying out Westcliffe. Its an experience both for those who want to relive the 1970s experience and for those needing a cheap, tasty meal. Westcliffe can be found coming straight down from highway 102 for tourists. For locals and university students, Westcliffe can easily be accessed through Bus #1, #80, and #81.

I made my first visit during an off time between lunch and dinner so it was kind of slow which was nice. Its a very relaxed place run strictly by a mom and a pop. The diner has a welcoming worn-in patina with character. Great fried comfort food at a comfortable price. I had the cheeseburger with the works and onion rings. The burger was fried to perfection with a toasted bun, the onion rings were hot crisp and fresh. It was a comfortable place to grab a bite and I look forward to returning.

Staff are friendly. Theres a warm atmosphere. The food is good and the serving size is generous. Its reasonably priced. The washroom is on the same level and its clean. The location is easily accessible by bus and theres street parking on Bayers road.
