Over more than a decade I have driven passed Jim’s. Never have I stopped in. Until the other day. I popped in on a snowy morning, needed to warm my bones with some eggs Benny, and Jim delivered! The hollandaise was thick, not runny. And had great taste. My eggs were poached a little too hard, but I was ok with it. No big deal. The home fries were great. Just big ol chunks of potato, hit them with salt and a bit of ketchup and mm mm they were yummy! Had an OJ with my meal. It was OJ! Now as for why atmosphere is 3 stars. Jim’s has two entrances. Both of which do not have a breezeway. So when people are renting from both sides the dining area does get quite chilly in the winter. But that’s all! Clean plate club too!
Staff excellent and friendly. Food service was quick. Seafood platter and fish and chips good. Desert, coconut cream pie and strawberry short cake excellent. However, seafood chowder, terrible. Extremely salty with no content . Mostly potato. Not what was stated in menu. Not worth the price.
For decades Jim's was one of my parents "go to" places whenever they came into the city. Mom was there for the clams & scallops, Dad for a variety - haddock tips, chicken parm and lasagna being a few. I'd get the clubhouse, was never disappointed. Tonight I gave the meatloaf a try and I'll tell you what - I did not regret the choice. Huge piece of homemade meaty deliciousness. Will absolutely be going back for more. The other's with me had the hot turkey sandwich (loved it!) and the liver with onions & bacon (also a hit!). We were stuffed and happy as we left. What more could a person want?!

Food was beyond AMAZING!! we tried seafood platter, fish and chips, scsllops and chips, sweet potato fries, donair, Pecan pie, homemade coconut cream pie and strawberry short cake. All of them were sooo good. We love it!! They gave us a seperate tartar sauce for fish and chips. It was really good!! My favorite was seafood platter and Pecan pie. Staff was so friendly, nice, polite, energetic and sweet!! If I ever to visit Halifax again I would definitely go again! Highly recommended!!
Sea salt fries were the best thing that night, wish the server would have recommended we all get them. Fish was decent, tartar sauce wasn’t overpowering. Nachos were ok. Calamari was rubbery, nacho salsa was a bit watery, donair burger meat was bland, poutine gravy was pretty bland as well and I think they used shredded mozzarella.
If you’re looking for a hearty dinner with a combination of pastas and seafood selections this is a great spot. It’s that old family restaurant type feel. Unfortunately when we walked in no one was there to greet us. The women at the counter remained on the phone and kept her head down. I asked if we should seat ourselves or stand and look around. The feeling of being an inconvenience in someone’s day. Luckily the waitress whom came to our table after we seated ourselves saved our impression with a kind smile. The menu has a number of selections depending on your appetite or what you fancy. We ordered a few different things off the menu each to meet our taste buds. The food was alright the saying, “you get what you paid for.” would come to mind. The clams were a hit in the way they were prepared and definitely what we were looking for. The fish and chips were more oil and batter, having to play hide and seek to find the fish within the batter. The end result was it was filling, and a hit and miss. Sadly the smell of oil as you leave stays on your clothes and you are reminder of your dinner. Not being from then area i guess one could say it was a free souvenir.
We had a good time here reuniting with some old friends and this was a pretty good to do so. The food was pretty good but nothing special. The fried foods were a bit soggy and the wait times were a bit long but the waitress was friendly and patient with us.
Classic diner vibe with friendly servers. Food is always tasty for takeout or eat in. Breakfast and brunch are recommended!

Great Family dinner
To be fair, we ate here about an hour before closing. Just as we sat down we overheard an elderly couple complain to the waitress about their food so it wasn t a great start. We found the food pretty bland yet expensive. The restaurant certainly needs renovations but the view of the basin is beautiful. The waitress was very sweet. When we looked outside we saw a fluffy little ratatouille on the patio table looking right at us. However, it s right beside the water and there are rats everywhere in the city so I don t think it s specific to this restaurant. Overall, we were pretty disappointed given the good reviews online. Nice staff but the food wasn t worth it to try again.

This has a more traditional feel as a local restaurant, and its right on the water with fantastic views on a clear day. The menu is large, so theres something for everyone. The choice of drinks is extended too so its worth a visit to sample their cuisine. The waiting on team are polite and well presented. Vegetarian options: Theres a good few options here for everyone. Parking: Loads of parking. You wont have a problem. Kid-friendliness: Theres kids options on the menu too, and you can always ask for food to go if theres too much.

Some of the best views of the Bedford Basin at any restaurant in the city. Comfortable atmosphere, exceptionally friendly staff, and fantastic seafood. The moussaka is amazing as well! Dietary restrictions: Some gluten free options available.

Ordered seafood platter, clams, scallops and fries just warm ,scallops over cooked and muscle strips left on sides of scallops, chips some fresh fried and some refried. Overall meal was just OK!
Its not fancy, but it is warm, welcoming, the staff is fantastic, and the food is always great. If ever there is something wrong with an order the staff will go out of their way to make it right. I have returned here over and over through the last 5 years and everytime it has been an excellent experience start to finish. Parking: Parking spots might seem full looking in from the road, but there is parking on the side and near the back as well.
Amazing service ( especially sea foods), Nina made our evening. Parking is always available except at rush hours(5-7pm)
I highly recommend Jims restaurant to anyone, we went there yesterday for the first time and it was very busy but the staff were super friendly and the food was delicious and the portion size was well Beyond amazing for the price, we definitely be back asap

A great family style restaurant. In our few days here in Halifax weve visited twice and left full and happy each time. The food is great, the staff are super friendly and the view of Bedford Basin is beautiful! Dietary restrictions: Staff were very happy to make any changes possible to the menu to make it better for you! Parking: Theres parking on three sides of the building and around, so theres a good bit of parking, it just might feel tight sometimes, but youll have no trouble getting in
Great meal, great service. Imagine your classic family restaurant: homemade food, friendly service and warm atmosphere. This is it boosted on steroids. Food was great, very reasonably priced, the staff went out of their way to make us feel home. Food was out in 20-25 minutes, which is completely standard, but they felt so bad that it took too long due to a large online order that they treated our entire table with desserts on the house. If this isn t going above and beyond, I don t know what is. We will be back!

The worst service Ive ever had.
Ordered a hot turkey sandwich and a cheese pizza for my son. The hot turkey was ready, about a half hour after ordering, and I heard the waitress ask the kitchen where was the pizza. They had forgot to make it. So we waited and waited for the pizza. When it came, the dough was not cooked. And my hot turkey had been sitting so long, the bread was mush. We both left hungry. The kitchen staff might want to pay less time joking around (could see them from our table) and more attention to their orders. Side note, no complaints about the waitresses. They all did a good job, and discounted my order.
Food here is amazing and the servers are all so friendly. It feels so homey here. Would absolutely recommend!
We have been in twice in March on our way home from Halifax to Bridgewater. we found the place cold both times. Breakfast was good on the last time we stopped

Been going to Jims since I was a kid. Jims really does feel like family. Everyone clearly enjoys their jobs and Tina is one of the best. Portions are great and a great taste.

I recently visited Jims and had a wonderful experience. The eggs Benedict I ordered were cooked to perfection, with the eggs perfectly poached and the hollandaise sauce rich and flavorful. The staff at Jims were friendly and welcoming, and they made sure that our entire dining experience was enjoyable. Our Order taken and was not ordered and the waitress who was really busy didnt come back to our table for 1 hour to apologize...we got out of there an hour later when the mistake was found ..which was a 2 hour supper for us

I love it here its my go-to Good prices and good food. I used to go there every weekend for brunch and still go sometimes now for brunch and dinner. And lots of parking when the lot is full you park next door, I just park next door all the time I find it easier to get in and out. I think they own the busines next door. Thats what Ive been told by someone

Had the pan fried haddock and poutine. My partner had mashed potatoes with theirs. We both really enjoyed it. The tartar sauce is perfect with a hint of dill; way better than Ive had at places like Jack Astors. The staff were super friendly. We ordered beforehand and picked up but the place appeared to be well kept. Well definitely be going there again.

Jims is an institution, a place where youll find solid dishes and friendly servers. The great views of the basin from the back room and patio make the experience all the sweeter, almost as sweet as the homemade coconut cream pie.

Best clams and chowder!
Ordered their Jimbo seafood platter, it had grilled haddock, golden Digby scallops, clams, calamari, grilled shrimps. The seafoods were fresh, cooked to perfection. The Nine Locks dirty blonde was very good. Service was excellent.

Just ordered through DoorDash , I got the hot turkey and all I gotta say is WOAHHHHH the chicken gravy was so unreal, honestly wanted to drink it. turkey was so fresh and delicious, the mash potatoes were like grandma made them ! Overall amazing been going to Jim s for awhile and it hits every single time !! (Also I forgot to take a pic cause it was so good , so here s the photo I took half way through )

PS I even got to see one of my students from a number of years ago. Will definitely be returning. Kid-friendliness: We had a special needs child with us and the staff made sure our needs were well looked after.

On our recent visit to Halifax, we stopped at Jims for lunch. The sandwiches were delicious and fresh. The home made coconut cream pie was awesome! The service was quick and the hostesses were pleasant. Great place for lunch! Parking: This restaurant is very popular and parking can be a challenge during busy hours! We were patient and found a spot!
Our server was fine, but I was less than impressed with the food. The burger was probably no more than 3 oz, overcooked on one side. The salad was mainly lettuce stuffed into a little bowl and the fries were warm, not hot. I did ask for and receive replacement fries, so I appreciate that. Nothing tasted that good, just fair Given my disappointment I would not recommend this place.

A good local restaurant. There are many menus, but most of them are delicious. Very friendly servers Parking: The parking space seems to be a little inadequate compared to the number of customers visiting the restaurant.

At lunch time we had a spaghetti with meat sauce which was excellent, and a steak breakfast which was good. We were also pleased with the service and surroundings. I would certainly have the spaghetti again. Edit: Later visits were even more creditworthy and warrant a five star rating.

Undercooked mozza sticks and really bad main dish. It was so bad I sent it back and didnt bother ordering anything else. My three year old wouldnt even eat his fries because they were that bad. My friend ate his dish because he was starving but even that was pretty bad. But at least his was hot. Server was great tho. Until she walked away and we could hear her talking about us. And how we didnt like our food. Really dirty bathrooms to. Over all awful experience and would definitely never recommend this place to anyone ever.
Me and my partner went to Jims on Friday and had Fish & chips. Fish was nice and crispy, not greasy and the fries were hand cut. The fries were not piled high on the plate, which I liked. Recommend this place! They could upgrade their chairs though, pretty creaky.

Wheelchair accessibility: Accessible parking spots, ramp over curb. Front double doors may be a little tricky, but side door is better. Accessible tables and the elevated seating area has a ramp. Bathroom has accessible stall, soap dispenser and roll under sinks. There is also an accessible built in roll under baby changing station in the ladies room.

I ordered the jims breakfast. The potatoes were under cooked and u could tell by the Color and texture they were cooked in old grease. The sausage was absolutely disgusting. The inside was mushy almost raw. The only thing I enjoyed were the eggs and toast. I wont be going back.
