Café by day, bistro by night, Café Lunette is an all-day eatery serving a greatest hits list of timeless Parisian classics and housemade cocktails.
This is really impressive elegant French style restaurant. It was introduced by the hotel reception, not let us disappoint, my kids and I were all satisfied about everything we had here. Food tastes so good, especially pain Au chocolate, crunchy and fully of favor. My daughter ordered CROISSANT BLT , she said it was so delicious and made a high comments on it. I ordered Twa-course Prix Pixe: FRENCH ONION SOUP and Seared Salmon and beef fat frites, I love the French onion soup and salmon, salmon is fresh and juicy, tastes so good. Kids loved frites. My son order CAESAR SALAD,he said not enough salad dressing or sauce on it. Finally I had it and felt it was ok. but price of this salad was a little expensive, we don’t think it was worthy $17 . The environment is unique and elegant, I love the red-crowned crane decorated wall paintings. The color of lights made me feel so warm. Waitresses are nice and check us frequently. This is good place worthy to visit again and recommend to other friends.
Beautiful cute cozy cafe, ambiance is dreamy, coffee was good. Food was below average, we had roast beef sandwich and it was very blant. Over priced for this quality of food. I would come here again for coffee only! Servers were friendly.
I would say a very good random find, the food was really good and the prices average. Although I've had better escargot and octopus but overall very nice. I would definitely go back.
Delicious brunch with the family! The smoked salmon crepe was particularly tasty. The Lunnete Special had the most amazing croissant loaf on the side. The service was wonderful and helpful with the menu. The ambiance was great, very cute. Lots of room for large parties, the six of us had a wonderful time.
Visiting Halifax in July means a greater chance of good weather and lobster season. The time when these tasty crustaceans are at their prime and the reason Café Lunette offered a special Ooh La Lobster ($54) three-course menu. But to start, an oyster ($3) to sample Nova Scotia’s array of seafood. It had a sweet finish, the restaurant using a lemon herb mignonette studded with chives, which wasn’t too pungent and just lightly flavoured the oyster. It was a much better starter than the lobster bisque that had a bitter aftertaste. At first, I thought the bitterness stemmed from the Pernod, an anise liqueur, used in the soup but finally tracked it down to the crackers of all things. Once you scoop those out, the remaining soup was a bit salty but edible and incorporated a lot of lobster throughout. The lobster spaghetti uses thicker strands of pasta and sauce, so everything sticks together well. The spaghetti had a great chewiness and while it doesn’t look like there’s a lot of lobster, the seafood was cut into small chunks and sprinkled throughout so each bite had a bit of lobster. It was a great main. You can see the seafood in the truffled lobster and mushroom roll, but the truffle oil was too overpowering. I only had one bite and already my mouth was flooded with so much flavour that I can’t imagine having an entire sandwich. If you love decadence, you’ll want to try the lobster roll. No lobster was used in the dessert but there was seaweed in the lemon posset. While it’s an interesting maritime addition, the seaweed does add an earthiness to the posset that’s an acquired taste. The consistency of the dessert was nice, almost like a panna cotta but thinner since it doesn’t incorporate gelatin. The sea salt caramel crème brûlée was very rich and somehow both very sweet and salty. It’s a bit much on its own but when combined with the lemon posset the tanginess earthiness of that counteracts the flavours of the crème brûlée nicely so we ended up eating the desserts together. Café Lunette’s cute atmosphere made us feel like we wanted to stay there and chat forever, the dining room is open and airy but there’s still a sense of privacy as ample space is given between tables. They are also so friendly – much like Halifax’s general populace – our waiter coming by to say goodbye as they were handing off shifts for the evening. We had a wonderful night and what a sad ending when we finally had to bid the café and its delicious lobsters au revoir.
This was my first visit here and the experience was absolutely lovely. I decided on their 3-dish dinner course, which came with a couple of options for each part. Unfortunately I do not remember the names of the dishes, but they were all incredible. My server (Aldo) and the host were both attentive, professional, and kind. I will be dreaming about the food tonight and can't wait to come back again - thank you so much!
I was here solo during happy hour. I had a reservation and I was seated properly. It was not busy at the time when I visited on a Saturday afternoon around 4:30 p.m. I loved how the service was really great teamwork here. Whenever I was waiting for my drink, or dish, someone other than my assigned survey will ensure that I was looked after. Throughout the night, different weight staff checked in on me on a regular basis. The French onion soup was fantastic. I pair this with the appetizer sized steak tartare. As you can see in the photo, there was ample bread which made the dish quite filling. The quail egg in its shell was a nice touch. I also highly recommend a hazelnut dacquoisse. Vibe was good and lively, and patrons all looked like they were enjoying themselves and their food.
Wow. Brunch here was literally like being in France in a typical Parisian cafe. The owners have figured out how to create the perfect French style experience. Great service, great ambience. The brunch menu was competitively priced and the food was superb. I had the tuna sandwich (at the front of the pic) and the tuna was fresh seared tuna rather than being out of a can. My partner had the ratatouille with a poached egg on top. Both dishes were fantastic. UPDATE: We returned as a party of 10 on 5 March. Our server - Crystal - was superb, one of the best servers in Halifax for sure! The food delighted everyone. I had the chicken sandwich with a French onion dip, OMG, so good! See updated pics.
Very cute place. Delicious breakfast and lattes. Staff was very friendly.
Just stopped in for coffee and baked goods but will make a point to come back, decor is really unique and the staff were very friendly.
10 dollars for a small cup of beer. Snooty attitude. I never leave low rated reviews but this place is a standout. Get a reality check.
Delicious French cuisine, beautiful ambiance and very friendly staff. One of my favorite places in Halifax.
We had a very nice experience here. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the service we received.
Was fantastic. The BEST home fries I have ever ate! The eggs Benedict were amazing, too. Our server was terrific, and the entire atmosphere was so warm and welcoming. My wife and I had the perfect breakfast there during our mini vacation to Halifax.
I liked everything very much, I highly recommend it, the prices are average.
Had my friend s birthday brunch here, waiters were so nice even tho we were late. Besides, great portions with food. Decoration is absolutely gorgeous. Will definitely return
Lovely service. Truly Delicious food. Well made food. Excellent atmosphere. Everything was perfect
A restaurant with very good service. Perfect for friends or dates.
The croissant blt changed my life
Overall great experience. The aesthetic is great with funky ceramic tile pattern on the floor, great apolstry classy cutlery and plates, interior decorating is warm elegant french vibes. The food was delicious but portion size was not great. $23 for a croissant and 10 hash browns was underwhelming but tastey. 8/10 but could be 9/10
Food was excellent and a good price for its location
Mainly because of the dining environment The interior decoration is exquisite, and the outdoor environment is also great. You can see the bay and the flowers are beautifully decorated! To complain about the coffee latte art, it is really terrible. It is hard to believe that it is made in a French cafe. Buttys horn sandwich contained a thick, hard chunk of egg and mushroom burn, which was inexplicably unpalatable. The French crispy pancakes are somewhat new, but the presentation is quite dark, and there is also a salad to add color.
A lovely evening spent on the patio with cappuccino, espresso and a hazelnut dessert prepared fresh upon order. Loved this place! 5/5
Thats my experience. Yours may be different. The location is perfect , on the waterfront, but parking is a big issue. The decorations and layout are excellent, and the restaurant itself is cozy. Service: I had an issue with the service, and my experience wasnt acceptable. The price is $$+, which is expected as the location impacts the price. My opinion: Although I wasnt happy with the service, I will visit them again.
As avid foodies, my husband and I are always eager to explore the vibrant restaurant scene in downtown Halifax. With new spots constantly emerging, weve been making our way through various establishments. For my husbands birthday, we decided to book a table at Café Lunette, excited for a Paris-inspired French dining experience. Unfortunately, the evening turned out to be quite disappointing. Despite having reservations, we were seated in what felt like a neglected area of the restaurant, right in a high-traffic zone near storage. It was clear that this section was less desirable, which set a negative tone for the evening. Upon being seated, our server briefly took our drink orders but informed us shortly after that his shift was over, and a new server would be taking over. While this is not uncommon, it was surprising to see the initial server continue working nearby, yet rarely did our new server check in on us. It wasn t particularly busy, so the lack of attention was noticeable. Determined not to let the service affect our night, we were still hopeful about the food, having seen great reviews online. Unfortunately, this is where the experience continued to falter. I ordered the three-course lobster menu, starting with the lobster bisque. While it had a flavorful base, the sodium content was overwhelming after just a few bites. My husband had the Caesar salad, which he found to be good but unremarkable. The second course was even more disappointing. I chose the lobster spaghetti, only to find it excessively salty, with pieces of lobster shell in the dish. When I kindly mentioned this to our server, he offered to redo the dish, but I declined. Instead, he offered a complimentary dessert, which was already included in the three-course menu. My husband s main course was chicken, and he too found it overly salty. The service issues continued when I excused myself to use the restroom. Upon returning, we waited an additional 25 minutes for our server. Eventually, my husband had to flag down our initial server to request the bill. To top it off, we were charged for a dessert that I never received. Overall, our experience at Café Lunette was far from what we had hoped for. From the subpar service to the poorly executed dishes, the evening did not meet our expectations. Regrettably, we will not be returning to this establishment.
Great lunch and dinner spot on the water, serving continental classics in a gorgeous setting. Highly recommended.
Hey guys, you behave like you are the only restaurant in Halifax. Yesterday my friend and I wanted to have a brunch in your cafe and made a reservation for 12:30. We arrived at this time and the guy host asked us to wait for a few minutes until our table is ready. He ended up forgetting about us the next minute, despite we stayed in the front of the line for the next 15 minutes, until we reminded him about us again, which he couldn t remember. The funniest thing is that there was no apology as you would expect in any decent place in such situation . The guy just proudly claimed that we are busy , and that s it (!) So, of course, we did not stay at this place and went to another cafe. This is disgusting, and you must be really funny guys behaving like this thinking you are the best cafe in the world
First date, prompt and courteous service (Jon was exquisite), portions on my eggs Benny were more than I was expecting which was nice as well, my date enjoyed the heck out of the steak tartare. 10/10, will absolutely return.
Patio is so relaxing for people and harbour watching. Delightful food and good coffee.
nothing to complain about. just a good time.
Cozy, warm, trendy. Excellent service. Great kook Vanessa.
We asked for eggs with no salt for our daughter. They were not able to make this because it s all ready mix eggs . Makes you wonder what s in their food we left and did not eat here.
Really good latte and pastries with a nice view and great price.
Amazing brunch. Food was delicious. Highly recommend it here
Great to have tofu and vegetarian options!
Server was a bit snobby and rude. The food was right definitely needed more flavour for the price
Delicious truffle lobster roll. The mussels were just ok. Salted caramel crème brulee was great. A bit over priced for what it is but solid overall.
Dined here before and always have a great time. Food is greatly timed and always delicious. We shared the French onion soup, lamb patty burger, and eggs benny!
Great location; sat outdoor on their patio; had the croque madame for brunch; food on par; service was good
Touristy venue with higher than normal/regular pricing found in other restaurants. Wine by the glass prices are highway robbery. Such a shame. Service was friendly and attentive.
We had a great time at this place celebrating a birthday. Our server was great, very attentive and polite. I had a delicious French onion soup but I also tried their lobster special menu and I was not impressed with the lobster bisque and the lobster pasta, I thought they were a bid bland. I also tried the sausage dish and that was delicious. The crème brûlée was fantastic. So a bit of mixed feelings about the food but I would totally go back. The restaurant is in a great location and has a fun atmosphere. Good place to meet up with friends.
Food
This was a very nicely decorated place, extremely nice servers and the food was very good. Servers were very attentive and everyone was just so friendly. Our food came quick and everything was up to par, we came here for brunch and a couple times for breakfast and loved it everytime.
Staff is so helpful & pleasant. Food is great. Atmosphere is lovely. This was my second time here and both times were great.
The restaurant is OK. The food was below average the price for only small two plates and a couple small things you will pay a lot of money so it s not worth for your money. Go eat somewhere else.
Probably my favorite eggs benedict I ve ever had! Food was delicious, atmosphere is lovely and the staff were great and prompt even on a busy day! Parking: Underground paid parking at the queens marque, nice and close by and always spaces available. Kid-friendliness: We had our 7 month old there, staff offered high chair and lots of other kids around. Wheelchair accessibility: There s a few tables that are easy for wheelchair users to eat at.
Food was alright, french onion soup was just warm, blt sandwitch was great. Service was medoicre. Interior decor was beautiful.
Worst experience at this place. I cannot imagine them having a 4.4 star average review. Details: Waiting way to long for food that never came They forgot my order They didnt refund me the correct amount but i just wanted to leave The only item they gave was burnt beyond recognition Incredibly terrible neglect Please dont go
The food and atmosphere here was amazing; however, our server was not overly informative and lacked the enthusiasm you d expect. The more frustrating part for us was that she seemed frustrated to have to serve a table with a three year old. I ll admit he can be a lot but we didn t feel as though he was overly welcome.
We had a great experience! Breakfast was delicious, and staff members were friendly! Food
Good service and lovely looking restaurant. Great tasting coffee but the food was a bit expensive for the quality. Very strange version of a croque madam with hog roast instead of ham.
Uh-mazing meal and service! I had one of the BEST drinks I have ever experienced La Sistiere. The restaurant was having a La la lobster dinner special so I ordered the seafood bisque, lobster roll and lemon seaweed custard for dessert. Our server and bar tender was Aldo and he was wonderful. He was very personable, friendly and had great recommendations for us. We had such an outstanding 5 star experience that we came back for drinks one more time before the end of our trip. We love the ambiance and highly recommend enjoying a meal here.
It was so good, highly recommend!
Obviously very beautiful, but no substance and the food has never been great. Not the first new restaurant on the water that s over the top and pretentious, with no soul or substance. The aesthetic means nothing if the service is rude and you leave not wanting to return.
Excellent! You will not regret.
Nice spot, not for a romantic evening as it gets a bit loud. If you are lucky enough to get a booth, it is probably better than the tiny table we were given. The menu is interesting enough and our waiter is pleasant. The French onion soup has a rich and flavourful broth and did not disappoint. The pork belly was very good also, nice and crisp. The frogs legs were nice with a lemony touch but I would have preferred them pan fried and not in batter. That being said, they were light and crisp. The zucchini would have been better served thin and crispy. It was slightly undercooked and served in large pieces. The côte de boeuf was cooked just right and as requested. The sauce it was served in was amazing. Came with green beans and mashed potatoes. Both cooked perfectly and were a nice accompaniment to the beef. Crème brûlée is a must! You dont really need the langues de chat( thin cookie) it was served with but it is a nice presentation. Being a crème brûlée aficionado, I rarely stray away from it but the lemon tart might have changed my mind! Rich, creamy, with just the perfect balance of lemon, it was divine! The wine list was impressive even if we did not have any that night. $8 for a bottle of sparkling water is a bit much but I guess it s the same elsewhere. I will go back as their brunch is apparently well sought-after. Overall, the food is well worth the cost.
I like the atmosphere
Such a shame that the service and food no longer lives up to the interior ambience. The service was slow to downright neglectful. They had almost no pastries available. The ones we could order were served on saucers. The croissant was served dry and cold with zero condiments.
Nice place near the water for coffee and breakfast. Delicious!
Very enjoyable! Reservation recommended
What a breath of fresh air! Great atmosphere. Originally had a reserve for 5...needed 7..they accommodated us almost immediately. If you are in Halifax, do yourself a favor and visit this great place! Food
Popped in for a quick Americano this morning after a run - super cute spot and great americano. The girl working was super friendly too. Looking forward to coming back this week for lunch!
One of the best coffees I ve ever tried in North America. Nice European-like aesthetic, a good wine selection, great location right on the harbour, with a beautiful patio.
Took over an hour for food to come out, staff did not check on table at all, drink glasses remained empty for extended period. Will not be back
John made our night!! Please pass along our gratitude to him! Dare I say the best espresso martinis in Halifax!
Our second trip to the cafe certainly did not disappoint. Our server John(an admitted rookie ) was fantastic, water and drinks never suffered and he was very personable and easy to get along with. The bartenders definitely know their way around the cocktails. Between the table we had a few different concoctions and they were all great. Charcuterie plate for the table isnt bad (the house made mustard and jam were awesome) but the star of the show was the mains. Two of us had Patés Carbonara and two of us had French Onion Soup. Both were just top shelf! So good. Cremè Brûleé for dessert was perfect. Wont hesitate to go again. Great job everyone!
Beautiful atmosphere, great service. The food was delicious and not the usual French restaurant fare. The cocktails were perfectly made and they also have a good wine selection. Im thrilled that I had the opportunity to eat here and hope to go again!
Lack of staff organization, slow service
The atmosphere and ambiance is absolutely beautiful. I ve been a couple times now, the food is fine, I do enjoy their coffee and pastries but there aren t many options for pastries (more so sides as a restaurant than a café). The menu does allow for some gluten free substitutions which are celiac safe. Featured is the Lunette special: egg, potatoes, mushroom, pork belly; toast Matcha Latte, Almond Croissant (chefs kiss) Dietary restrictions: Gluten free bread available as substitute and gf fryer
Wonderful experience. The food was amazing!
I wanted to love it! The food was disappointing and bland but the service was warm.
Delicious chocolate cake, ice cream and coffee! Excellent service & beautiful atmosphere.
overpriced and very little portion. the ambiance is good.
Me and my friend were really excited to visit this place for the first time after reading all the reviews .But sadly we didnt feel welcomed enough. The vibe was really off because when we entered no one was there to greet us and it took a while for them to bring us the menu and take the order. Also they didnt keep a check on us throught the time we were sitting there if we wanted something. Moreover, the food was really disappointing .Least recommended place if you want to enjoy good food and welcoming treatment.
Got the weekend special which was an elk bavette. Delicious!
Awesome experience
The food and cocktails were very good. The service was exceptional.
Welcoming. Good service. Cook lost the salt or seasoning tonight . Everything tasted super bland. Best things were the fries. I expected much more for a 200$ meal.
The best coffee in Halifax
The dishes look and taste incredible. Service is exceptional. Not a very big venue but worth it.
Very chic and cozy restaurant by the water Food was delicious Food
We went for coffee and dessert at Café Lunette, and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the dessert and bread. As a French person it was really good to find the servers from my country here. The only downside I would say is the quantity which is a little low in their dessert and on the baguette for the price but in any case the taste was there. I recommend.
We had a great time there with friends and family. Service was good and helpful. Food was yummy and would recommend. Really good location on the waterfront, but you should plan for your parking in advance (we got lucky).
I think every time I have been promised French food in Halifax, I have been disappointed. Well not this time, Café Lunettes is the real deal. The food is excellent and actually tastes like home. I started with the escargots and they were one of the best I have ever had. I absolutely love their regional menus, it is perfect to discover the richness of French cuisine. A must try gem!
Food and service were wonderful. Great atmosphere as well!
Their brunch is unbelievable! I got the butty croissantwich and it was one of the best Ive ever had. Great oat milk cortado too. Mimosa was delicious and the caesar was pretty good too! (All in picture attached)
Was a very nice café, loved the food and the music. The service was great and the staff were very nice! Definitely worth checking out before a lovely walk along the waterfront
Interior is a mix of styles, but if you do not care - its 5 stars for you. But part of kitchen is open to the hall, so its noisy because of that. Probably the only place you can grab some coffee during weekend after 5 p.m. Foie gras is 4/5 (compare to France) and the portion is restaurant size) but worth it.
I love Café Lunette, always a great place for a great time. Food is amazing (brunch and dinner, I have not tried lunches, but for sure it is good)and service is great.
Lovely decor and excellent food and service!
Eggs Benedict was pretty good, except for tje shredded potatos, it was tastles and too moist. Liked the presentation of it. Golden Chai Latte was decent.
Came here for brunch during the storm. Luckily they were open! We were the only ones there when we arrived, but got busy quickly. We ordered their special, beef brisket hash and it was delicious. Loved that they had a variety of vegetables. The eggs were cooked perfectly! Will definitely have to come back for dinner or drinks. The whole ambience was so nice, loved the decor of the whole place. The servers were attentive and quick.
Went for the first time during a snow storm, food was perfect the waiter was incredibly attentive and the place is just great to be in. Will definitely come back again!
The girls and I wen here for lunch and we surely enjoyed our time. The service was okay the waiter did take awhile to get back to us, but to be fair it got busy. The food and atmosphere was everything. Definitely will be visiting again Parking: Because of the location you have to either pay for nearby parkin or hope that the few free street parking that is near is empty
Went on Valentine s Day, even with a full restaurant and a busy kitchen the service was fantastic and the food wasn t much of a wait. The drink special was fantastic and we both left agreeing that it was one of the best examples of our respective dishes. The French onion burger and the ratatouille. Definitely will be back to try the raclette!
If you could be magically transported to a quaint seaside French cafe from the all too familiar daily living and boring routines of most Haligonians. Then you would truly understand and appreciate how this fine French Bistro could make you feel. Cafe` Lunette offers the most exquisite delicacies equalled by exceptional service and atmosphere. You owe it to yourself ( and others) to go there and to enjoy a dining experience at its finest.
The environment is great Tastes good Vegetarian options: There are vegetarian options Dietary restrictions: Will ask about dietary restrictions
Wonderful decor, great lighting, delicious drinks, and amazing food. What s not to like about the open yet intimate Cafe Lunette. The service was amazing, and we truly enjoyed every aspect of our December dinner from start to finish. Highly recommend a visit!
Weve been three times so far and they never disappoint. We finally tried the french onion soup and it was wonderfully rich and comforting. One of my favorite restaurants in the city !
Lovely spot with good food. The staff is very polite as well
Perfect lunch.
my partner and i went here as a celebratory dinner out in halifax by the waterfront. we had the prix fixe and it was very delicious. we had a very memorable time here and it ll definitely be in our hearts and mind next time we re in the area. also! they have half price bottles after 9pm (which we didn t know at the time but is a great deal) and we had a bit of bubbly with dessert.
ADAM ADAM ADAM, If you go you have to ask for Adam! Thank you so much for a wonderful experience and making us feel so cared for! 10/10 recommend for the service alone!
Really enjoyed the patio by the harbour. Coffee is top notch and the pain-au-chocolat was the best i ve had outside of brittany france. Great people work there.
Perhaps the only classic French restaurant I can think of in the city. Certainly the best. Decor is completely on point. Staff were great. Every dish was a hit. Update: went back. It was much busier and the stock menu. Not a home run. Dishes were cold or under-seasoned. Perhaps an off night?
I came here for brunch on a Saturday morning. The service was okay, but they were out of ALL pastries. They were also out of the only vegan option. The server made no attempt to ask the kitchen about other options, which was surprising because this is obviously an upscale kitchen with chefs that could have very easily made vegan food. I was offered a plate of tomatoes dish or a $24 ratatouille without cheese. There is no way I would pay $24 for vegetables. I did in the end have a small plate of fruit for $14. I was very disappointed. Two of us had iced coffees which were not cold, and two of us had hot beverages which were not hot. The other people I was with enjoyed their dishes. If you are going to serve vegan food, there must be vegan food to be served. I came very hungry and left hungry.
This was an amazing experience, as you walk in you know that you are going to enjoy your time at this establishment. The service was very good, very attentive and knowledgeable. The lighting, atmosphere and decor was just something out of a magazine. The options for drinks and food were endless. They had some veggie options, but not a lot. If you are vegetarian just know you are limited to two dishes max one being a shareable and other an entrée. Overall, the food was delicious the trout and chicken dishes were amazing and the steak tartare was loved by everyone. The service was friendly, they didn t charge for extra bread and dessert due to the lack of vegetarian options for myself which was greatest appreciated
Recently named #74 in the 2023 edition of Canada s Top 100 Restaurants, café Lunette is a classy & delicious recent addition to the Halifax harbour front. The food we had was very tasty and clearly made with care. The kitchen is semi-open and preparation & team activity is observable from one side of the dining room. We are visiting Nova Scotia before a conference in Halifax next week. We flew into Halifax on a Saturday morning and decided to visit the city a bit before heading further afield. Given the timing, we had planned a weekend brunch. and clearly the restaurant is busy, as we made a same-day reservation attempt at 7 AM, and the earliest we could be seated was 12:30 PM. Since they do take reservations, I strongly recommend making them a day or two (or more) in advance, if you have a particular hour in mind. We started with oat milk lattés, and certainly the beans were of good quality (I did not ask which roaster they use). We also ordered the heirloom tomato salad, which was excellent and a great entrée portion. For mains we ordered the avocado toast and the PB & J French toast. The avocado toast was very good, and the addition of salted ricotta was a nice complement. However the fig compôte, though tasty, did feel a little unnecessarily sweet in what was otherwise a savoury choice. The PB & J French toast, with haskap compôte and crunchy peanut butter, was quite heavy, but extremely tasty and original. The service was quite attentive in spite of the hectic brunch crowd, and the staff were all very professional. The noise level, even relatively late (towards the end) in the brunch period, was quite high, and that should be noted for anyone who is planning to have proper conversation at brunch time. Overall, this is an excellent addition to Canada s food scene, and creates a completely difference ambience than most other offerings in Halifax. We did not try the dinner menu, and it is certainly quite possible (as seems to be indicated by those who have enjoyed lunch or dinner at Café Lunette) that the place shines even more when it becomes a proper French bistro in the evenings. Vegetarian options: There are some vegetarian options and they are quite tasty!
I was served by David. Drinks were 10/10, food 10/10, service 10/10. This is a great restaurant. I recommend to local people and tourists, it s a great place to stop!
Had a mid morning espresso and cappuccino on a quiet Friday. There was a massive group in front of us, but our order was taken promptly, we were notified about the potential delays; however, we were still quickly served.
The food was delicious and presentation nice, except for the omelette, that was basic to say the least. Drinks are great. Atmosphere is loud even at half capacity. Service was slow we ordered drinks waiting for the rest of our party and the rest of the party arrived 30 minutes late before the 4 drinks showed up
Had a great dinner at Cafe Lunette this evening! Jessica was an amazing waitress, she provided excellent service and kept our glasses full! It is so nice to go out for a romantic date, eat delicious food and have great service
We loved dining at Cafe Lunette. The food and the service were excellent! We ll definately go back,
Me and my friend decided to go here for breakfast and we waited for a bit and no one acknowledged us. I think the manager (had a different attire than everyone else) then comes over to us and looks at us with such a confused look. It looked like as if we weren t supposed to be there or something, it wasn t warm and welcoming and it made us very uncomfortable. She basically tells us we can get coffee at the bar but that s not what we wanted and we had to tell her we wanted to be seated. I was watching how the staff was treating everyone else and they were treated with warm greetings, got their coats taken from them and got seated immediately. I ve never had an experience like this at a restaurant and I m very disappointed at how we were treated. I cannot think of any other reason why we were treated like this other than the fact that we are people of colour. Everyone s attitude (the staff) towards us did not feel genuine at all. We were very uncomfortable the whole time.
Was amazing
Great service and incredible food. The decor and setting is a treat too. The steak tartare was to die for.
Beautiful spot, perfect waterfront location, tasty food and good service.
Went in cause it was jazz night and wanted to listen to some jazz, but wasn t hungry so I just ordered a brioche and glass of water. Several times we were asked if we didn t want wine, felt super pressured and honestly uncomfortable. Won t be going again.
This was the second time giving it a try because the first time the service was very bad, same service this time. Last time the food was good but I didnt even had the opportunity to try the food this time. The place looks nice though
Onion soup, , crepe burger were amazing!!! The best black Americano in Halifax !!!
Meh
service is always amazing 10/10 however the food always falls flat. Lots of potential to be good however I have been 3 times and I am never satisfied with my meal unfortunately.
You only have one chance to make a first impression. Unfortunately, Café Lunette did not make a particularly good one. After our recent visit to Paris, we decided to give this restaurant a try. The location on the waterfront is nice enough, but as with everything in downtown Halifax, parking is a pain (not their fault to be sure). The decor and layout are well executed, however Café Lunette suffers from an all-too-common malady among local eating establishments - a relatively low ceiling and an almost complete lack of soft surfaces leading to a very noisy environment. With about 80% of the tables full, it was nearly impossible to converse across the table at a normal volume. I had reviewed the menu online in advance and was really looking forward to the Beef Tartare, but was very disappointed to be told there was none left - this was at 1:30 in the afternoon - a late lunch. Not good. We shared escargots for an appetizer, and they were quite good, served with tiny pastries on top of each snail. I settled for a roast beef sandwich as my main for $25 which was nice enough if a bit pricy for what it was. My partner enjoyed the Poulet Basquaise which seemed a bit more worthy of its $26 price. The service was fair but not remarkable and although the overall experience was satisfactory, taking into account the trip downtown and the requisite parking fee, the unavailable menu item, and the unpleasant volume levels, we will not be rushing back any time soon.
The atmosphere was really nice, we had a super nice server. Service was a little slow, especially for our drinks, but the server kept us updated. The food was overpriced for what we received. I had a Caesar salad which was $17, it came in a bowl, there were chunks of bacon and anchovies. The taste was good but for a $17 dish it could have been plated much better than an average restaurant. My chicken Cordon bleu was two pieces of chicken; a leg, and half of half a breast, and was sloshed, on top of a mushy polenta which took over 3/4 of the plate. Not sure if it was the later dinner service that we had (8:15 reso) that threw the chefs off, I m certainly hoping this was not their regular plating of this dish. It looked like pan fried chicken, no ham visible, and I think the cheese may have melted in the polenta. This is a French classic and I know how this dish should be done. I did not bother to say anything at the time because the atmosphere was nice and I was determined to keep my lovely outing lovely. The dish was well seasoned and ok, but was a little overpriced. People eat with their eyes as well as their mouths, so from what I saw, the dish was not worth the $34/$36 that I payed ( I wish I took photos) The restaurant was one of the better ones I had experienced however in Halifax, I just wish the platings and taste matched the price. This was a classic case of ambiance and service ruling over production. The service and atmosphere was good enough that it was enough for me to forgive the food.
Amazing dinner, I cant remember our servers name but she was from New Finland. And she was amazing. Perfect service, funny, attentive. She made out whole night.
French classics impeccably executed -- everything was delicious. Also, we all (seven of us) agreed that this was some of the best service any of us have had in quite some time, courtesy of Olivia, who rocks.
Appys were decent, tasty and presented well, entrées were prepared incorrectly and disappointing although had good flavor... chicken Cordon Bleu should be boneless and the steak for two was an inferior cut of beef and not the ribeye steak as advertised with a random bone on the side. Desserts were also decent.
Great place for breakfasts, while walking along the water. The breakfast starts serving at 9 AM. Coffees, drinks and some pastries are served from the opening at 7 AM. We will come back.
The atmosphere definitely felt French in decor and quality, and the food was delicious! We had brunch and it did not disappoint! The menu is small, but high quality. The service was great, and the manager was very attentive to guests and what was going on at his establishment. Definitely worth going to!
Sweet little spot with fantastic menu options! Ive been here twice now, both on the cafe side and the restaurant side.I had the avocado toast with an egg and it was delicious. Their coffees are to die for!! I love the cappuccinos. The atmosphere is so beautiful and service is friendly. Will continue to go back!
I ve been here twice once for breakfast and once for brunch. The service is good. The croque madame was tasty and filling, however the ham and cheese galette and the escargot galette were just ok it comes with a salad. And the matcha green tea latte was not very good. But the amandine, the macarons, the butty croissantwich, the lunette special and the cappuccinos were super delicious. Would recommend
We visited Cafe Lunette twice during our week long Halifax stay. The location is a minute from our hotel. So it made sense to drop in once or twice for breakfast. Unfortunately their amazing brunch menu is only available on the weekends and it starts at 11:00AM as an FYI. We tried the petit dejeuner menu of course which included their amazing freshly baked pastries. We sampled the Butty Crossaintwich, Assiette De Fruit, Porchetta sandwich, Lunette Special, Pain Au Chocolat, omelette w/ fries and their coffess and lattes were expertly hand crafted and it was a home run on the taste scale. Every dish was made with skill and it showed. The only drawback is that the service can be slow especially during the busy mornings. But the atmosphere made up for that. Happy Eats everyone :-)
Very nice experience from all points of view
A magnificent and delicious evening at Café Lunette! Divine dining experience. Beef tartare, Caesar salad with roasted bacon, scallops, Burgundy snails and delicious steak fries! This French bistro has a lot to offer! Well located near the port, the ambiance and service make the experience pleasant and relaxing. I came for lunch and came back for dinner! Thank you to the entire team for your excellent work and attentive service. What a wonderful evening we had! Special thanks to Andrew and Tessa
Cute store, amazing food, super friendly and attentive staff
I went to Café Lunette on a rainy day with family and it was a wonderful experience. I ordered the French Dip Chicken Sandwich, a savoury and filling dish, alongside a latte. The overall experience was great for every single guest in my party. The atmosphere is beautiful and a perfect place to take pictures for your socials. Would definitely dine again.
Best Americano I have had across Canada!! - J#
Trout with almonds is amazing!
The only place you can get frog legs in town!
My wife and I were at Cafe Lunette for a Friday evening night out. We had one of our best meals in Halifax for quite some time. We had oysters, scallops, the boeuf au jus was delicious. The drinks were well done and deserts to die for. This restaurant has become a must in Hali.
I came here for brunch last weekend. The weather was nice, so I sat outside the restaurant. The atmosphere of the restaurant was also very good. The employee were very kind, too. But... The cappuccino that the male employee brought was the worst. My wife grabbed my hand when I was trying to stir coffee with a spoon. You cant really see the spoon in the picture, but someone put the spoon in the coffee and there was a clear black mark in the mouth. When I told the employee, she changed the spoon right away. I didnt complain to the restaurant because I couldnt ruin my date with my wife. The food I ate was delicious. Especially poached eggs are really delicious. Make sure to check the spoon when you drink coffee, too. The manager of this restaurant must train the staff. The food was really delicious.
We went to Café Lunette since it was among the best restaurants on several listings. The restaurant decor is very pretty and the service super nice, however the food was not more than ok. Oignon soup was good but with 19$ too expensive. The Lunette special was ok but the pork belly so greasy we couldn t eat it (and we are very good eaters). So unfortunately we can t recommend the place.
Straight up, this is the finest restaurant in Halifax. My Wife and I have eaten here a number of times and every instance saw food and service of the highest quality. In addition, the atmosphere is always great. Wether the place is bustling, or maybe a bit quieter, it s always a lovely experience. In our latest visit, we were served by Hendrika, and also had the opportunity to meet Andrew, the GM. Everyone who works at this restaurant positively contributes to the always enjoyable and friendly atmosphere Cafe Lunette has become our restaurant, and highly recommend to anyone looking for amazing food, excellent service, a wonderful atmosphere, and solid value.
Fantastic food and excellent coffee! Manager Andrew is also great.
My friends and I came here for lunch before we continued our Atlantic Provinces Tour. We met Andrew and my goodness, he was super helpful beyond just ensuring we got a good brunch. Initially, we almost weren t going to eat there because they were only serving lunch as at the time we got there, but he (Andrew) provided suggestions on what we could get on their lunch menu if we wanted something close to a brunch. In addition, he provided great recommendations for the rest of our Atlantic tour. His tips were super helpful and saved us a lot of time. A huge shout out to Andrew. We also had a good chit chat with him before we left the cafe. Food was good and service was great.
Having brunch at Café lunette was a great experience. The ambiance is very welcoming and charming. My friends and I had amazing food and the waiter gave us great service. I would like to give Andrew (General Manager) a huge shoutout!!! He provided us with great recommendations (food, travel routes) for our trip to PEI! He was very welcoming from the moment we entered the cafe and we had good conversations with him.
As always, the food and service was excellent
Excellent meal with very knowledgeable and attentive, but not obtrusive, service. Went by the glass for wine and all the pairings were great. I don t think I ve ever ordered chicken in a fine dining restaurant but, as this was a french restaurant, I had the chicken cordon bleu; if I go back I don t know if I ll try anything else as it was outstanding! Only complaint, and this is strictly personal so I still gave them 5 stars, was the restaurant is extremely loud. Not a problem for us as a group of four people but, as an example, I wouldn t bring my wife here for an intimate dinner as the atmosphere is too boisterous. All in all, still highly recommend (for the right occasion).
Horrible service from the gentleman at the bar. Had a reservation for 11am. We came in at 10:55am and he told us that we could not sit at any table of 2- it had to be AT a specific table even though we had a reservation and spoke to us very condescendingly saying we made our reservation improperly if we wanted breakfast?. We are now sitting here in an empty restaurant with multiple table of 2 s empty, yet had no choice of where we sat. We came here yesterday for a nice breakfast and returned today will not be coming back, will be our last visit.
Terrible experience - thanks to the server/manager named Andrew. I took my mother for a brunch on Sunday at 11.30am 2 weeks ago, and from the moment this person greeted us, they came across rather frustrated and not willing to get us in despite the entire patio being empty. Obviously the indoor section was packed, but the outdoor section was fully available with clean tables set. Once we requested for the patio, he said they wouldnt serve to the patio and if it rains, he cant get us anywhere inside, so we would have to figure it out. He also added they cant serve to the patio, so we would have to order inside then wait outside and then walk back inside to pay once our meal is finished, which felt rather like he was commanding officers in a military establishment, rather than a fine French cafe... I wish that was all, then when I was ordering at the bar by accepting his conditions to sit outside, he yelled at my mom because she took 10 steps inside the restaurant and he said she couldnt walk inside. Completely ridiculous... The worst happened when him and his other teammates started serving to other people in the patio literally 10 minutes after we sat down by accepting their condition of not serving to the patio, and figuring it out on our own. All the people around us received the menu to their table outside, and ordered while sitting at the people, but Andrew treated us completely like trash. I cant find any explanation to this behavior. All I can say is I would expect much from this business as long as people like Andrew are still hired and treating customers this way. Ridiculous. I dont recommend this place to anyone.
We went here for dinner on a Wednesday night and had a wonderful experience. The service and food were both exceptional. Our server took the time to explain everything on the menu and answer any questions. I had the porc which was great and my husband had the trout which was cooked perfectly. The crème brûlée was delicious too!
Worst service ever , not recommended at all , very rude with attitude, expensive . Don t waste your time and money
The waitresses were rude and had an attitude.. The menu in French and they don t explain what each course has in English and we suppose to know French by heart :) not recommend
Delicious
Nice place, but too noisy and only a couple of clients in ok women
Good food with great decor!
Second time at cafe lunette , first time was amazing , and I was looking forward to my second time with my date but I don t think I have ever been so disappointed at a restaurant . You can see how short staffed They were and very overwhelmed, which actually made our experience really overwhelming. Let s just say you would have to wait 20min for an already made cold croissant , we ordered 2, only got 1, then we ordered 1 mimossa , we got 2 instead , everything was coming up at the wrong time , the waitresses seemed so frustrated and had so much attitude after we asked for an omelette for our eggs which they refused to do which I don t understand for a breakfast place , how is making an omelette hard ? Mine you the first time I went there they did it no problem . Overall they ruined my morning , my date and really disappointed service overall for what we paid for . I complain to the manager who was very unhelpful ans border line rude . Clearly won t be returning and PS: You cannot be a French breakfast place without omelette
Very charming place and very courteous service. A must near the ferry terminal.
This was such an amazing experience! The food was delicious and service was incredible! I would highly recommend!
My wife and I visited Labour Day weekend. Staff were great and food superb. Importantly the low noise volume allowed us to chat. Highly recommended. Vegetarian options: Several options were available. Dietary restrictions: Wait staff were knowledgeable about what was or could be converted to Gluten Free. There were several dishes available.
Everything about this place is good except for the hot chocolate !!! It has no chocolate at all. I requested to change the two offered to me, but the next two ones were even worse. Better to remove from your menu
Simply wonderful. Only stopped in for a coffee but the food looked wonderful.
We had a variety of food for brunch and I have to say it was quite good. Coffee, food service and atmosphere overall great food experience. Would we go back? yes.
My favorite restaurant in town! Dog friendly patio and stunning ambience inside and out. Menu is varied and very well priced and authentic and delicious all in one! The food is amazing and well crafted with care please take the time to stop and visit this place you wont regret it
First stop of my Halifax food adventure, a French bistro. When in Halifax, do what the French would do Eat some escargots and b uf bourguignon. Beautiful restaurant with great decor. Service was attentive and friendly. The cocktail (Spritz à Lunette) was light and refreshing. Perfect for a warm Summer evening. The escargots were nice but I had better. The boeuf bourguignon on the other hand was delicious. The beef cheek was decadent and fork tender. The aligot potatoes were rich, creamy and stretchy while the haricots verts were perfectly cooked. Overall very satisfied.
Beautiful French decor. Nice restaurant with a bar. The waitress was friendly with good manners and had a great knowledge of their dinner menu. Food was delicious from starters to dessert. Would definitely return!
Went here for my boyfriends birthday dinner. Not too busy on a Friday evening. We sat outside when the weather was cooler. Our waitress was very friendly and gave us suggestions for our visit. The outside sadly is right near the main road and a lot of loud bustling going on around so not a romantic atmosphere. The inside looked more intimate. The food was pretty good too.
Let me say that Ive made this special request a dozen times before, never with the expectation that they would deliver, but to my complete amazement they enthusiastically obliged. When I made the reservation, I made the special request to have a drawing of a T-Rex waiting on the table. When I saw the drawing when we arrived, to say I was delighted is an understatement. The attention to detail went far beyond this special gift from the talented artist on staff, but our whole meal was spectacular. This experience has convinced me to return for my next special occasion and beyond. I will never hesitate to recommend this most wonderful gem to anyone looking for a special experience. Thank you to all at Café Lunette. Dietary restrictions: They asked when we ordered if we have any allergies. I thought this was incredibly thoughtful, and shows they care about the guests.
So beautiful! Great location, tasty fresh made bakery. Loved it, didnt want to leave Food
Absolutely delicious meal and gorgeous restaurant! Lunette has been on my radar for quite some time and i m so happy I got to try it! When you walk in the smell of french onion soup is intoxicating so I had to try it for myself! Absolutely delicious! Super cheesy, lots of croutons, and the rosemary flavour in there is delicious. 10/10!
The overall experience was descent and we walked away happy with our choice of destination but... as professional chefs, we alway have to squash our expectations and be aware things cant always be as we wish they should be. The atmosphere and decor were pleasant and the service was friendly and welcoming. The food needs some small improvements: For exemple: Puff pastry has no place on escargot de Bourgone, expecially when slightly undercooked, Swith to using breadcrumbs mixed in the garlic butter and as a topping and the escargot would be so much better for it, providing a slight crunch to the pallet. Maitre d butter was too heavy on the parsley and too light on lemon juice and ground pepper. Fix that and your streak frite will be a hit! The meat on the other hand was good and well cooked. The biggest kitchen faux-pas: Roast your almond ahead of time and use them as part of the cooking process for your trout. Otherwise, they leave a plain and waxy taste that doesnt add to the fish meats flavor. It simpy become a cooked piece of fish with raw almonds on top. This is kitchen 101. Finally, the opera cake was passable but a little too heavy on the sponge and too light on the buttercream. Served at a good temperature, (a nice touch) but layer your buttercream a little thicker, swith to a better joconde recipe and use a slightly heavier ganache topping and you will be fine. Pineau des Charante on the dessert wine menu was a nice nostagic surprise!
This use to be our favourite place but our last visit was not great. The main manager, a gentleman in a grey suit made our experience stressful. He really damaged the environment and carried so much stress on his shoulders that you can feel it resonate throughout the room as well as within the servers. Our server Yas was great, friendly and handled all of our requested with enthusiasm. At the end of our dinner we asked if we could speak to a som, and unfortunately this manager was the guy to talk to and he knew absolutely nothing about wine and was extremely unfriendly when approaching the table. As if we were annoying him with asking questions.
The best croissant with almonds! Amazing atmosphere. Little France in Halifax.
Very nice place and good service
Super cute decor and delicious food!
Delicious brunch and dinner! By far the best restaurant in the Queens Marquee
So good
Great Latte Bon Latte
We ate outside at this café while visiting on a cruise. The croissant that was the basis of the roast beef sandwich was divine. Tasty and medium rare cuts of beef filled the sandwich. Fries were plentiful. And my side salad was dressed nicely with a vinegrette. This bird visited us and adorably begged for bits of the croissant.
This was a great place to grab lunch, though a bit more costly than other places and portions were on the smaller side, it was delicious nonetheless! Great service also!
A great addition to the Halifax waterfront. Amazing service and food, Logan was an amazing server during my meal.
One of the best restaurants I ve ever eaten in Halifax. The interior, food and service was impeccable. Everything was delicious!
Excellent restaurant, food and drink. Great vibes for date night. The french onion soup is veal based and it certainly had deep beefy flavours in this. Topped with bread, I enjoyed how it soaked in the broth and gave the soup more texture to enjoy it with. Quite good. The cote de beouf was also amazing. It was cooked perfectly and served with a red wine jus that had me yearning for more. Each bite sent me to new highs. I ve had a lot of steak this year (e.g. CarverSteak in Las Vegas) and this is definitely up there with the best of them. The daily special they had was a miss for me though. It was a mushroom dish that although it looked like lots of work went into it, I d try something else from their main menu next time. Good cocktails Overall I heartily recommend Cafe Lunette
Very bad experience, really terrible service attitude!
I was in Halifax for a work conference and had to make sure to go to Cafe Lunette for a dinner. So worth it. I actually felt like I was back in Paris. The interior decor, service, food, atmosphere. I left with an incredibly satisfied palette and cannot wait to return!
Exceptional dining experience with a wonderful atmosphere. Cocktails from the bar were amazing, appetizers and mains were excellent and their desserts were a nice ending to a great meal. We ll definitely be back!
Love the fact that Cafe Lunnetes take on the diner breakfast is actually really unique and on brand. Caramelized onions and mushrooms on the hashbrowns, pork belly as the meat, a tasty slice of sour dough toast - it was a pretty fun french breakfast plate. The atmosphere is just like all of the other restaurants down here; top notch. They had some surprisingly affordable to-go offerings as well, like a breakfast sandwich for 6 bucks!
Ordered the stake, the mussels and the Mac and cheese, I dont remember the French names for these. Not justified for the price for sure. Not wowed by the food at all. Food
The decor and atmosphere were beautiful, however, the food and overall experience was sub-par, especially given the prices. Our food was cold and the flavours just werent there. I left an almost full plate but our server didnt ask how the meal was. The server also didnt check on us once throughout the meal and was very slow to come take our order and give us the bill. I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant, but it was very disappointing and I wouldnt recommend it to anyone I know, unfortunately.
