Le Bistro By Liz you'll find old world French charm in the heart of downtown Halifax. A quaint, cozy, full of life bistro featuring sumptuous dishes created with fresh local ingredients! Live Entertainment 4 nights a week Open 11-11 daily Weekend Brunches!
Amazing place with great food, awesome staff and beautiful ambiance. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a semi fancy and affordable outing or date. The steak was delicious and the pasta was great too!
For sure a hidden gem. I think it's location under an old apartment building makes people overlook it. I thought it was a cafeteria for the longest time! Anyway, the atmosphere is my favourite in Halifax. A little slice of a Parisian street stereotype. Fun and kind of rare these days. French onion soup immediately put a smile on my face. Loved dipping the included buttered bread in the soup. Lobster puff pastry with tarragon sauce had a nice flavour and pastry was perfectly light. Beef bourguinon was tender, but the flavour was pretty standard. I would recommend trying another entree if it's your first time here. Overall, looking forward to coming back and trying other menu items!
Went to Le Bistro by Liz for our first trip in Nova Scotia for our Honeymoon and we were amazed with the exceptional service and outstanding selection of food. The French Onion Soup was by far the best I've had in Canada, hands down! We also tried the Garlic Shrimp, which we devoured, and they were grilled to perfection! The server was kind enough to bring us a complimentary piece of pie for dessert to help us celebrate our honeymoon in Nova Scotia. I can't wait to return in the future for our anniversary!
Le Bistro by Liz never disappoints. Service is excellent. Love the lemon parfait pie - light and refreshing - ate it too quickly and forgot to take a picture. I rarely order soup at restaurants as I find them usually very salty. The onion soup here is perfect! For the entrees, they do give you value for your money. We have yet to try every single item on the menu. Can’t wait to go back.
Such a cute, cozy place with classic dishes that are delicious. Stopped in here with my dad and his girlfriend. Both just wanted a light meal, while I wanted something a little more substantial. We got appetizers, Arancini, which was delicious! And Escargots in the classic garlic butter, which was also very good. They opted for the French Onion soup as a main. It was plenty full of onions, which my dad loves. Very filling with lots of melted cheese oozing down the sides of the dish. They were both full after their soup. I opted for the pan fried lemon haddock on a bed of rice. The vegetables were tender and delicious. The haddock was light and flaky and I love lemon on fish. So it was a perfect dish for me. We ended with sharing two profiteroles, which they were kind enough to split on 2 plates without asking. It was the perfect small dessert. Nice and light but decadent too. Everyone loved their meals. I will definitely be back.
Came for Saturday brunch with no wait and it’s a super cute French interior. Great croque monsieur and the best potato skins! Menu entrees also came with a complimentary alcoholic or non alcoholic beverage. Highly recommend checking this place out!
Such a great place ! We celebrated our honeymoon in the Maritimes and made sure to come here for dinner and absolutely loved it. The food is fantastic. The service is prompt and the staff is infectiously friendly 😁. The decor is cute and quirky. The atmosphere is has you feeling like you just landed on Paris. Highly recommended and would definitely go back again We had half eaten our dishes before realizing that we should take a photo. It was a tough to choose between stopping to eat for a photo or just keep eating They even surprised us w a cute dessert
Visit: June 2024 The food was delicious. I had the salmon crepe with potato skins. The crepe was thin and soft, while being a bit crispy on the edges. The salmon was perfectly cooked, moist, and flavouful. The crepe and Benedict sauce was creamy and buttery, and the textures worked well in tandem with the crispy potato skins and acidity of the ketchup. The brunch also came with a complimentary drink, which I got the mimosa. It was a nice addition, though im not used to drinking so early in the morning The staff was very kind and the atmosphere is very aesthetic, bustling yet homey feeling. The smooth music accompanied the red decor and plentiful live plants gave the space a very lively feeling Highly recommend!
We had a fantastic experience at Le Bistro by Liz. Delicious food. Cozy atmosphere. Service was great. Perfect Date night.
Food was good, service was great. Very clean and welcoming. Not my usual type of place to eat, but was enjoyable. I was treated to this meal, I dont think Id spend my own money for this type of food though. It was good, but not exceptional.
Busy restaurant with excellent food. Pleasing atmosphere.
I dont come here enough. Food and service is always great. Thanks again!
Wonderful lunch experience. It was busy and service was still efficient and attentive for a lunch meeting.
Wonderful bistro.. French inspired food. Well presented and cooked.
Great food and staff. Theres a reason they are usually busy and its best to make reservations.
Great food! Excellent service! Nice atmosphere!
Vegetarian options: Vegetarian bowl Food
Great service / food / atmosphere.. been treating myself here f/40+ yrs. Liz and her team keeping a Halifax Tradition. Bravo f/keeping a tradition going. Encore 07 Nov. 24. Hey Liz
Wow, the eggs benni was delicious, the most perfect place for brunch with the girls! I would reserve.
I French people . This place has decadent joe as well as beautiful wall art. At times provocative. The bathroom was clean and me and my wife had a good time. At this restaurant. 10/10 would recommend
My wifes meal of haddock was excellent. Unfortunately, my Coquille St. Jacques was very poor primarily because the scallops were overcooked, discoloured and tough. And the overall dish was not tasty. I was offered a free desert.......not good.
Truly romantic place. Go there to propose.
I had the french onion soup. The broth was deliciousThe cheese was perfectly melted. To my liking, There was not enough caramelized onions in the soup. Just remember its called french onion soup. Bowl could have been bigger.
Peggys cove is a must-see. Lots of little stores in the one area. Selling locally made jewelry, handmade items from local sellers. Definitely up there with the best coves I have seen.
Le Bistro by Liz never disappoints. The menu offers a wide choice of dishes presented with care, mouth-watering, and at very reasonable prices. The servers are always attentive and friendly. Even when the restaurant is full, its never noisy. Definitely #1 in Halifax!
Everything is always amazing!!!
Absolutely incredible, Ive gone by this place many times and we decided to pop in this evening. The staff are wonderful, this is the kind of service you look for when you eat out. Attentive, great recommendations. The food was scrumptious and the interior was cozy and inviting. Highly recommended, the bruschetta was really good. We will return.
I had seafood chowder, excellent and red wine, good. Then shared a lemon parfait with a friend. Also excellent.
Despite being at the bottom of an apartment building, the restaurant is quite cute inside. We were accomodated quickly and enjoyed a lovely late lunch. The Croque Monsieur and Club Paris were very good, the Crepe Florentine was a bit bland in taste.
Unreal service. Great menu. I dont normally order chicken clubs but I wanted something light for lunch and wow it was actually cracked.
Excellent dinner last night. Had fresh blackened haddock, onion soup and cheesecake. Delicious
The french onion soup is the best one I have ever tasted.
Great food at a good price served by awesome wait staff. Cant ask for anything else.
My first time, definitely wont be my last one. Love, love everything about it
An absolute delight for Sunday brunch! We were in from Montreal meeting up with a friend from Dartmouth. Thank goodness we made reservations! The food was delicious and the service beyond expectations, friendly welcoming and just made our visit special!
Loved it
Excellent food! Beautiful atmosphere! Everyone was very friendly! Very clean! Cant wait to go back!
I have been dining at Bistro by Liz for many years without complaint. I always love the food and atmosphere. This week we had an unfortunate experience. We asked to have our desserts and bills brought together to table. The bill arrived. It included the cost of desserts, however the desserts did not arrive. We waited about 20 minutes, watching our waiter serve other tables. Finally we had to leave, to go to a film, so asked for new bills with no desserts. The server apologized. We paid our bills and left. Desserts at Bistro by Liz are delicious (especially the lemon parfait pie) so we left disappointed that day.
Great restaurant in the heart of Halifax. Delicious food, wonderful atmosphere and friendly service.
They never disappoint me, no matter which dishes I order. Every time I came here, it was always a pleasant experience! Food is super tasty.
Lovely staff but the food isnt worth the price.
My family and I had a great time.
Bistro by Liz is by far our favourite restaurant in HRM. Thank you Liz and staff for making our dining experiences awesome. From the fantastic food, pricing and atmosphere, including an incredible staff, you cannot go wrong spending some time in this establishment. Well done!
Repeat diner here! We ve enjoyed the dinner and brunch at LeBistro by Liz and have had wonderful experiences every time.
Such a great restaurant, everything on the menu looks delicious, vibe is great for dates and staff is super courteous!!
We enjoyed this gem very much on all fronts, including service, food and wine.
My husband and I had dinner here, and plan to return next week after our trip around Nova Scotia. This dinner was one of the highlights of this lovely city. The warm welcome by the owner and well paced service added to the experience. We haven t had escargot for a long time, and these were excellent, with plenty of bread for the delicious garlic butter. The scallops in the Coquilles St. Jacques were cooked perfectly, as was my husband s salmon. Rarely do we order dessert, considering the quality of our meal, we could not pass up the opportunity. The profiteroles filled with ice cream topped off this great meal. We can t wait to come again for the last night of our vacation.
Went for first time for anniversary lunch. Together got the Club Paris and the Spaghettini Aglio e Olio. The chicken Breast on the sandwich was impressively juicy and a great amount of condiment. The pasta was cooked just right with alot of garlic goodness~ the place was beautiful to eat in with comfortable lighting.
The food here was fantastic! The croque monsieur sandwich was absolutely terrific and is a must try. The service is also great and the owner/manager went above and beyond to make the experience enjoyable and she truly cared. This place is absolutely fantastic
Love this place ! Great find and it did not disappoint:) Liz - you are a testament to great customer service and care, along with making your customers feel comfortable and special all at the same time . Food was delicious and perfect portion. Dessert was yummy and it was a great dinner out . Definitely going back !
Absolutely fabulous place to visit and have a meal alone. I was treated with the utmost of respect and the food was prepared to perfection. Definitely recommend this beautiful restaurant and it is also owned and operated by an equally beautiful lady.
Wonderful restaurant: amazing atmosphere, friendly professional staff and delicious food and drink at a very reasonable price. Liz is a consumate professional and her hospitality knows no bounds!!
Food was overall delicious (linguini was quite salty, but still super good!!) and the restaurant itself was very homey and cozy!! However, I had an odd experience when I asked for the Caesar dressing to be subbed with a vinaigrette, as I saw other salads had vinaigrettes as an option. I was initially served two pourers filled only with olive oil. When I checked with our waitress about it, she returned after some time with a pourer of balsamic vinegar. At that point, I felt the unspoken message that I was to whisk the vinaigrette myself with a fork tableside with those two ingredients, all within a tiny pourer. I love a simple vinaigrette, but I felt put off by the rather obtuse understanding of my substitution request, and would have preferred if they said they couldnt honor my request rather than make me feel a bit foolish at the table with my fork and pourer haha!
Visited Le Bistro last night for our 49th anniversary and it was simply wonderful. We were warmly greeted at the door and led to a lovely table for two by the window. As I was saying. This is perfect! , the owner Liz overheard my comment and stopped by to say hello. Had a lovely chat about the story of the restaurant (her passion for providing her customers with a wonderful experience at a reasonable price is clear). The French bistro decor is lovely, the service impeccable and the food absolutely delicious. I ordered the coquilles st Jacques which came with seasonal vegetables and duchess potatoes-so good. My hubby ordered a steak, filet de boeuf- a 7 oz tenderloin, medium rare which melted in the mouth, especially the sauce- a savoury red wine demi. We were then surprised by a lovely dessert, their signature- lemon parfait pie. It was incredible. Le Bistro will be our restaurant of choice from this point on. We could not recommend this restaurant more highly.
I love this place. We dine here almost every time we come to Halifax. The service is wonderful and the food delicious!
For groups a great place to have dinner .
I love Le Bistro, I always have. Lots of amazing memories there! I dont have any one meal to review at this moment but will do so in the future. I would loooove to see the classical guitarist back in the evenings! It would be a very classy addition to the ambiance.
I took my husband here for his birthday dinner and it was a wonderful experience. The server was great and personable and the owner came to introduce herself and chatted with our daughter and gave her a free dessert.
One of the go-to places to stop in for a meal, and theres always the yummy desserts!
I highly recommend this restaurant. Excellent meal in a very pleasant atmosphere. Reasonable price. I really liked the onion soup. Well come back!
Already looking to go back to celebrate a family event! Went here for the weekend brunch and all dishes were excellent. I had the croque monsieur and my son had the avocado toast. Good options if you are in a breakfast mood or lunch mood. All main menu items come with your choice of mimosa or Caesar. Highly recommend this spot!
Amazing
Love this place. Great for any occasion. Prices are great as well!
Spontaneous date night on our way to the Rebecca Cohn to hear Reeny Smith grace the stage with Symphony Nova Scotia. Dinner was delightful (and delicious). Hard to choose an entree. So many options, too little time. We ll be back! Dietary restrictions: It s Food Allergy Awareness Month. Well done accommodating rare allergy to alliums and recommending several options.
Had a wonderful mothers day brunch experience at Le Bistro. The staff were wonderful at fitting us in and the atmosphere was lovely. Everyones food was amazing and even my pickiest eater was tempted to try new things. Highly recommend.
Must stop place for brunch! Make sure you make a reservation or else youll never be able to get in as its crazy busy! Due to its business it is a loud environment but considering that, service was fast and food came flying out with also good quality! Complimentary Mimosa with ordering brunch! Will definitely be coming back next time I visit Halifax! Tables are very close together because they are trying to accommodate for the amount of people that are coming for brunch but all in all, I enjoyed my brunch here!
From our first date to our 8 year anniversary, le Bistro doe snot disappoint. Such an unforgettable experience with delicious food and amazing atmosphere. Definitely recommend! Food
i ve been twice, (once for brunch, once for dinner). food was okay but service was incredibly slow. the first time i went we sat on the patio and were the only ones out there so we thought maybe they forgot about us (which is fine we werent super bothered). but then when i was seated inside the second time it confirmed that no; they are just really really slow. it also wasnt that busy. the decor inside is also really odd. like theres way too many themes going on.
The food quality is good, but the portion seems to have gotten slightly smaller for the big breakfast (but likely a sign of the times) The server we had was excellent, ad well as the atmosphere. Liz is friendly as always as well. Id give 4.5 if I could.
Overpriced Four Entree Disasters. Skip dinner. Runny mash potatoes. Four small scallops burried in mash. Beef bourguignon was a dish of gravy. Wheres the beef? Pass.
Had a wonderful brunch here during their free mimosa hours! Amazing environment, very nice decor, and kind staff. Service was quick and helpful, and everything we ordered was delicious Great way to start out the day - will definitely come back!
Had a wonderful experience for dinner on a Sunday night. It had been sometime since I had been there, but LeBistro never disappoints! You feel welcome has soon as you open the door, are greeted warmly by all staff members and are able to relax and enjoy a delicious meal with fabulous, friendly service
Great food and service.
The place is cute and the service is adequate. The food was lacklustre to say the least. First, the menu is full of mistakes (it s plateau DE fromage not plateau AU fromage) a detail I know, but if you want a French identity and atmosphere in your restaurant, at least do it correctly. The grammar was not my only issue, I am still looking for any kind of flavour. I ordered shrimps as an appetizer. It was supposed to be a dish that had garlic in it my breath was still fresh at the end of the meal, I couldn t taste even a hint of garlic. The other issue were the description of the dishes themselves, one dish was supposed to come with pommes duchesses , what I got was piped mashed potato and a boiled potato on the side. That s not what a pomme duchesse is. The prices are fine, the meal wasn t too expensive. I do think they could simplify their menu and really focus on being accurate and on quality. It is a cute place but I left very disappointed.
I love Le Bistro and visit often. The food is always manifiique and the service just right: attentive enough you dont feel forgotten but not so attentive as to be intrusive. The prices are reasonable for the the quality and portions of the food. The only reason the atmosphere gets 4 stars rather than five is that it does tend to be noisy. But I recognize that its noisy because its always packed. And its always packed because its great! The haddock burger is a personal favourite.
We went to celebrate our 27th Wedding Anniversary. We were greeted with such warmth and made to feel special the moment we walked in. This continued with the service from Matt, who couldnt do enough for us. Surprised us with a complimentary desert for our anniversary from the Le Bistro By Liz which was absolutely delicious and an incredibly kind gesture. The ambiance and feeling that you are not just guests but more somehow is not accomplished unless its genuine, and it certainly was. Thank you for making our special day even more special. We shall be returning more often. Special thanks to the owner ( I think ) that greeted us and Matt for a beautiful evening.
Today we visited this restaurant for the first time. We really liked the interior, atmosphere, music and service. The food is Canadian and French. It was served beautifully, looked appetizing and was very tasty. We had a very nice time! I recommend it to everyone, you wont regret it. Well definitely come again. :)
Delicious in all ways.
Ive been to Lizs twice and I really like the vibe, the food has been ok.. The first time I had the seafood risotto, it did come with plenty of nice seafood but the risotto itself was mushy and the second time here I ordered the eggs benedict for brunch, the hollandaise had so much lemon that it was sour so that was disappointing, I did like their potato skins side.
Very nice atmosphere. The lamb shank was delish, and so was the chowder. Service was top notch. Grazie!
We had a birthday brunch here for me on the weekend. From the complimentary mimosa to the Benny to the potato skins so delightfully crunchy, I dont, and never have, have anything bad to say. This place is wonderful. Parking: Its downtown Halifax. Of course parking is at a premium.
Very Chez Paris!! Food delicious!. Meal hot (temperature)from beginning to end! Will return for sure!! Food
Friendly environment good food.
Le Bistro By Liz is by far my favourite restaurant in the city!! I live downtown and could go to so many restaurants in the area but I almost always end up at Le Bistro. The servers and the service are exceptional! The food is always excellent and the menu caters to everyone- I always order something different and have never been disappointed! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this restaurant!
Cute Parisian theme restaurant. Amazing food and even better prices.
From my first date to end of career, this place has remained a favourite. Wonderful food, warm atmosphere and amazing service.
Absolutely love it here. Liz is a gem, staff are absolutely lovely to deal with and food is top notch. We have never had a bad meal here, and dont even get me started on brunch! So much love for this place. One of our favorite spots by far to go for a lovely meal. Dietary restrictions: I have food allergies and they always try to be as accommodating as possible.
Best golden beets in town!!!
We enjoyed everything about this restaurant. Our server, Shiona, was delightful. Everyone in our party has a great time. Dietary restrictions: We had a few people at our table with food allergies and intolerances. Mainly gluten and dairy. Their orders were handled with the utmost care.
I m just trying to do a reservation. Two days and nobody answered. I d like to have my birthday dinner there but no answer
Food and service were wonderful. One of our very favorite restaurants.
LeBistro is a classic that never disappoints. Amazing, friendly staff and the food is always reliably good.
Our server Colin was friendly and suggested a nice pairing of wine- I m not usually a fan of red wine but this one was great and complimented our meals well. Our drinks, appetizers and mains were served promptly and were delicious. The inside of the restaurant is gorgeous and has a warm atmosphere. Our first time here and we will definitely be back in the future!
Lizs restaurant in Halifax is truly exceptional! The welcoming ambiance, outstanding food, and attentive staff consistently make it one of my top choices. While I dont know Liz personally, I have always been inspired by the way she runs Le Bistro.
Le Bistro deserves a virtual high-five for consistently winning my culinary heart. Ive been a fan since the pre-Liz era, and I must say, Liz has seamlessly transitioned into the role of the culinary captain, steering this ship with finesse. After a recent concert, our crew found solace in Le Bistro, trading concert vibes for the soothing notes of desserts and specialty hot chocolates. The parents indulged in the sophisticated world of specialty hot chocolates, strategizing their post-concert recovery, while the kids happily embraced the classic hot cocoa a testament to Le Bistros universal appeal. This charming establishment has been my trusted companion for date nights and those much-needed decompression sessions. Liz, your ability to maintain the character and charm of Le Bistro deserves a culinary medal. Heres to more delightful evenings and delicious escapades!
Amazing!!!
Great food, great service and great atmosphere!!! You can t go wrong.
Service was excellent. My meal was good, and the portion size was plenty. Atmosphere was welcoming and relaxing.
super friendly staff and some of the best food in all of Halifax!!
Delicious food, as a true European I can say that you really eat here in a European atmosphere, good bistro cuisine, reasonably priced with French and Italian dishes. Very authentically own. Recommended
What a gem this place is! Friendly people, delicious food, great vibe.
Fantastic food & accommodating staff
The staff were very kind and the accessibility was great. However, the food we ordered was only so-so. The salad I got had a strange vinaigrette that tasted like mayonnaise, and my mom got their mussels which had a distasteful sauce. I can t speak to the restaurants entirety, since we only ordered two things, and I m sure some of the food is also great. Just the things we ordered we didn t love.
Food was great, but maybe Im too old because I thought it was very noisy.
Brunch was incredible and our waitress provided great service.
Its not the best tasting entrées but the appetizers are great.
A very enjoyable meal with exceptional service.
Great little restaurant with cool vibes. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly.
Excellent service and delicious gluten free options. Loved it Dietary restrictions: Many delicious gluten free options, and the server was knowledgeable about celiac and cross contamination and was able to recommend a substitute for one of the sides
Chardonnay was atrocious. Escargot was okay but the French onion soup was the worst I ve ever had absolutely no flavour. Didn t eat it and the server did not ask how the meal was.
Beautiful restaurant and the food was amazing!!
Went here last when I was a student - more accurately, my parents took me here for special occasions when I was student!. Visited here with my own kids for the first time in over twenty years. Nice to hear that the current owner, Liz, used to work here as a waitress in the 80s and now runs the show. Pros: - service is excellent all around - decor: quaint, with a true French feel - the food was excellent (we went for lunch): our party got the seafood risotto (excellent) and the special (a breaded, deep fried haddock sandwich on a brioche bun) - My daughter has celiac disease : servers were knowledgeable about what was and was not safe, and many GF options were indicated on the menu Cons: - cant think of anything Love to see that this restaurant is operating well these days and hope it stays a fixture for a long time.
If looking for quiet, Sunday evening is ideal.
Have been here 2x in the last 2 weeks. Enjoyed our meals everytime. The price is very reasonable for the quality of food. Would highly recommend.
Very good, hasnt lost a step over all these years!
Nice restaurant friendly and excellent food and service. Unfortunately Halifax has taken out lots of parking and replaced with bike lanes so if you have mobility issues it makes life a lot more difficult
Loved the dessert
25 stars out of 5 say my kids. Everything about our brunch here lived up to the hype. Absolutely delicious!
The staff was great and were very accommodating of our gluten free needs. The gluten free bread is some of the best we have had. The menu marks gluten free options and there are a lot of them.
Had a wonderful lunch with friends. Liz is always a great hostess at Le Bistro. The food was excellent and the service prompt.
Lovely little brunch spot in Halifax. Great prices and the food is beautifully presented. Would love to go back again and try other menu items!
A Halifax classic, a gem in the Halifax restaurant scene for many years. The newer restaurants may be fashionable but Le Bistro has maintained their place as a go to spot in Halifax The mussels were great really need a spoon for the delicious sauce. The Coquille and Seafood Crepes are very good and the seafood was very fresh. I forgot how good the lemon parfait pie is , next time I will get the large portion. Our server reflected the professionalism of the hands on owner Liz. We really enjoyed our evening dinner.
Iconic Halifax Bistro . Excellent seafood crepes and salads.
Great spot for supper and brunch with a free ceaser with every entree
Good food, a bit outdated place but good food.
Really nice French Bistro inspired restaurant. The service is perfect. The food is nice. Many gluten free options! The prices are really fair! Totally worth it!
Wonderful experience! Delicious onion soup and mussels! Our server Matt was exceptional! We have been touring NS for 12 days and the Lemon Parfait Pie was without a doubt our favorite dessert!
Very nice restaurant. Had Sunday brunch. Food was great, service excellent and atmosphere very comfortable. Highly recommended.
On a visit to Halifax for a conference, coincidentally ended up here three times - twice for lunch and once for dinner. The food was great! The service was awesome too. We had a great time! Would highly recommend if you are in the area. Don t let the oddness of it being at the bottom of an apartment building put you off. It s worth the trip to Liz s.
Great brunch spot and good value. Fantastic service and you can tell the resto has its regulars because it has a very welcoming vibe.
My husband ordered toast doree aux bananes and I ordered a croque monsieur. I was delighted to see banana bread French toast with bacon on the menu as those are all the things that my husband loves in one! My croque monsieur was alright. Wish there was sour cream for the potato skins. But otherwise it was ok. All entrees come with a drink. Not a bad place for brunch. I do wish they are open earlier and the service was alright.
Enjoyed brunch with my husband and we loved the food specially the dessert
Had a great meal here Super service. Tasty food. Reasonable prices. Great ambience. Food
Food was pretty good but there was a giant bug in my cloth napkin which crawled back into it after it had been discovered. She replaced both our table settings, but expressed no apologies and nothing was comped (which is standard when a big distressing bug is found, no?)
Food was excellent. Great atmoshere
As always the food was amazing.
Overpriced for average food
They close at 8 so if you show up at 7 they won t let you order.
We went to the restaurant today with a table of three for brunch. Delicious food, attentive service, we didnt have to wait long for the food. I really like the space and the service here. We will be back again.
Very nice classy restaurant. Service was exceptional. The Filet Mignon served exactly as requested. The crème brulée had an exquisite crust. All our guests enjoyed their meals as well. Not rushed at all, that allowed us to relax and enjoy our company.
Instantly my favourite brunch place in Halifax. Not only their menu is extensive and creative but they also seem to execute it really well. We took the haddock and Benedict and mimosa everything was near perfect. Amazing interior ambience and staff. Their potato with skin is absolutely bomb
Yummy lemon curd pie!
Amazing find 2 mins walk from my hotel. First time in Halifax and I will let everyone I know traveling to here.. Im a New Zealander so no friends here sorry I had the special of the night which was blackened Salmon
Beautiful place, good service and delicious food. Thank you for great hospitality Liz! Elisabeth S from Vancouver BC Kid-friendliness: Very polite and quick service.
My potatoes skins were too oily
Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs at the entry. I would call ahead and reserve a table letting them know about your mobility, but it shouldn t be an issue. Food
This place is amazing, every dish was wonderful and done to perfection, our server was so friendly and the decor everywhere fits with the french bistro theme. Will be back again!!! Food
I hate to say this but dont go for brunch. The food is never hot, the best you can hope for is lukewarm. The eggs used the omelette are liquid and not fresh whole eggs. This really dose lower the quality of the food greatly. I want to love this place but I simply cant recommend it at all.
So beautiful and in a great location. Friendly staff as well. Weve been to France and were delighted to get a little taste while in Halifax!
A short walk from our bed and breakfast, we had a spectacular dining experience. The staff is very knowledgeable, food service amazingly quick and the food is divine. We were treated like family and felt like royalty. Cant recommend more highly. 100% fabulous! Dietary restrictions: My shrimp allergy was noted and honored. We had 4 different entrees and everything was perfect
Was amazing and the food was scrumptious!!!!
Just popped in and fell for this place. It was recommended by the proprietors of the hotel just down the road and were glad we went. Good meals, nice modest wine selection. Well worth a visit if youre in the neighborhood.
This place is super cute! The food is also amazing and the staff members are so friendly. New favourite spot
Title: Brunch Bliss at Bistro by Liz! Rating: (5/5) I recently had the pleasure of indulging in a brunch experience at Bistro by Liz, and it was an absolute delight from start to finish. While the entire meal was exceptional, there was one standout that stole my heart the potato skin side dish! From the moment I walked into Bistro by Liz, I was captivated by its inviting and stylish ambiance. The restaurant created the perfect setting for a leisurely brunch, and the friendly and attentive staff immediately made us feel at home, setting the stage for an unforgettable dining adventure. Bistro by Liz boasts a menu that reflects Lizs culinary prowess and her dedication to sourcing the freshest, finest ingredients. Every dish we sampled was a work of art, but the potato skin side dish was truly the star of the show. These potato skins were a brunch dream come true perfectly crisp, golden shells packed with flavor. They were generously garnished with a tantalizing combination of cheese, bacon, and chives, creating a harmonious symphony of tastes and textures. It was a potato lovers paradise on a plate! Not only were the potato skins delicious, but they were also visually stunning. Lizs meticulous attention to both flavor and presentation sets her apart as a chef who cares deeply about her craft. Its evident that every plate that leaves her kitchen is a labor of love. But the excellence didnt stop at the potato skins. The rest of our brunch experience was equally outstanding. We relished a diverse array of dishes, each masterfully prepared and bursting with flavor. The brunch cocktails were creative and refreshing, adding to the overall enjoyment of the meal. The service at Bistro by Liz was impeccable throughout our visit. The staff was well-versed in the brunch menu and provided excellent recommendations. They ensured our glasses were always filled and that our brunch experience was nothing short of extraordinary. Beyond the food and service, the restaurants ambiance struck the perfect balance between upscale and relaxed, making it an ideal destination for a leisurely brunch gathering. I can confidently affirm that Bistro by Liz exceeded my brunch expectations in every way imaginable. If youre a brunch enthusiast, the potato skin side dish is an absolute must-try. But dont stop there; explore the entire brunch menu, and youll uncover a world of culinary delights waiting to be savored. Whether youre celebrating a special occasion or simply craving an unforgettable brunch, Bistro by Liz is the ultimate destination. Liz and her team have crafted a brunch experience that will leave you with cherished memories. Im eagerly anticipating my next brunch adventure at Bistro by Liz!
Always impressed by the service here. Staff seems to go above and beyond and are consistently super friendly and helpful. The food is also very delicous and reasonably priced. Weve come for both brunch and dinner and been impressed both times. They might have the best tomato soup Ive ever had!
Good place to visit, I love this place.
This is an absolute GEM in the HRM! The food is sublime, the wait staff attentive, the atmosphere delightful. Even when there was a missed communication, they remedied the situation immediately and went above and beyond what was expected in the situation. Will absolutely be returning. Big thank you to the young man with the long-ish blonde hair.
My daughter and I wanted a good French onion soup and this was the place that popped up. We also ordered a club and fries to split. The staff graciously prepared two separated plates. However, the cleanliness of the restaurant needs work. We sat by the window which was filthy on the inside and outside, the ledges were discussing and I was continuously swatting flies from around our table. They were all over the windows and window ledges. For this reason it was not enjoyable.
Great slow lunch and some local advice
I thought my dish was good but too runny, lots of fish, scallops one or two big shrimps, mushrooms, celery, and other veggies, penne noodles, all and all pretty good taste wise, but the broth could have been thicker for my taste.
Was there with a tour group.service and food was excellent.
The waiter was awesome the food was amazing would definitely go back highly recommend this place
Nice place, good food, service very good.
Came tonight for my birthday food was awesome and service. We will definitely return. Waiting for dessert now.
Great atmosphere - great food.
Great atmosphere, service was fast, friendly and knowledgeable. Loved the food we ll be back.
This is a wonderful locale for brunch, or any other meal for that matter.
Had the French onion soup. The broth tasted like hot water with some onion in it. Seriously lacking in flavour. Thank goodness for the cheese topping. I also question the French bistro that serves chicken fajitas as the lunch special. If youre hoping for Julia Child or a taste of France maybe look elsewhere.
Their weekend brunch menu was awesome. The big breakfast was generous and yummy. Pancakes were buttery and fluffy as cotton. Avocado on SD was alright, albeit a tad smaller compared to the rest. Good vibes and friendly service.
We went to the Bistro because it was close to the QEII and reputed to be celiac-safe. The restaurant was eclectic, cozy, and welcoming. Everyone who dealt with us was very aware of celiac, knew exactly what could be made gluten-free and reassured me that the phenomenal looking (and tasting) soup really was gluten-free. They were also clear that deep-fried options were cross-contaminated. We had the French onion soup (gf), almond salad (gf), and a croque monsieur (not gf, but could be made gf), all were excellent. Both of our desserts - chocolate pot au creme and creme brulee - were gluten-free and made in house. They were excellent. The washrooms - of which there are two - were clean, spacious and gender neutral. Recommended for both celiacs and gluten eaters. The environment is exactly what you want for a cozy, comfortable meal and conversation, and the food tastes like someone cared when they made it. Dietary restrictions: Very aware of celiac protocols, felt safe dining there as a celiac.
The French onion soup was delightful. The service was stellar, and the atmosphere made me feel like I was back in Paris. Highly recommend!
The food is good but the owner s opinions on the homeless are a little dated. Maybe it was just an unfortunate interview with a poor choice of words
A reliable spot for a quick meal, with a relaxed atmosphere and great vibes. The service here is always excellent! The food is consistent in quality and value, though I wouldn t describe the menu as exciting or creative. Le Bistro is a neighbourhood favourite for brunch, serving all the classics (I recommend the savoury crêpes,) and a complimentary mimosa!
First day in Halifax, so we had to go with local recommendation and tried the very popular French bistro. As you walk in, it has a great atmosphere, and the staff are very welcoming. Menu has excellent choices, and we picked some classics. The Seafood Risotto was delicious and so was my creamy mushroom soup. My partner had French Onion soup and Beef Bourguignon, which he approved. And the desserts are yummy, the classic Creme Brulee and the Cheesecake. The waiter who served us was very helpful, attentive, and friendly along with the rest of the staff who were very courteous. A wonderful French bistro to visit and enjoy if you are in Halifax.
Hard to say anything bad about this place. Brunch was top notch, priced right and served with pleasure by great staff. Always a great time visiting this place....
Lovely place tucked away adjacent to Park Victoria apartments. I ve been here several times when in Halifax & am never disappointed. Highly recommend the seafood risotto with a nice rose. Shiona was wonderful :)
Always an awesome experience with the food and great staff
Great spot. Owner is active on site. Ambiance is wonderful and great food.
Excellent service and great food. Our server Kate was amazingly polite and helpful with our orders. Absolutely going to return.
I enjoyed it a lot and had a great experience at Le Bistro by Liz. Great service and delicious food. I strongly recommend it, and I will return for sure. Food
They welcome us with great enthusiasm. The ambiance of this place is so appealing. We tried salmon and seafood crepe. Both dishes were delicious and presentation of food was great. Customer service was so attentive and helpful in choosing dishes. I would highly recommend it.
