1645 Argyle St, Halifax, NS B3J 2B5, Canada
This stylish, traditional pub was built in Ireland then shipped to & assembled in Canada.
A very lively pub with great atmosphere and live music. Despite how busy it was, the service was excellent. The food we had was mediocre- we didn't have the chowder, the Guiness Bread was great, but the Irish Stew was a bit thin, and the Sheppards Pie was ok, but didn't have much meat. I would go back, though, they made great cocktails, and it was an interesting place.
Great place if you are looking for quick snacks & drinks. We tried the popcorn chicken, mozza bites, pretty in pink cocktail, burnside brewing killick beer, the busker single malt whisky & sexton. All of the food & drinks were great. The vibe was good & the service was amazing.
Amazing food. Definitely go here if you're even considering it. From the things we got, in order of best to less best (nothing was bad): Shepherds pie Pretzel and beer cheese Beef stew Honey pot cocktail Local dry cider Brown bread and honey butter Sweet potato fries Burger Regular fries Popcorn chicken Grilled cheese Diet coke haha. Seriously, the shepherds pie and Guinness beef stew are ridiculously good. I've been to Dublin multiple times in my life and these top everything I can remember trying.
Stopped in for a pint of Guinness with the family after exploring the city of Halifax. The server gave us the history of the bar and let us know that most of it was shipped right from Ireland. The Guinness was creamy and perfectly poured! The sours were great too! A nice place to stop for a refreshing drink.
A very authentic and lively place, at least in the evening. Lots of seating places inside and outside. There is a live music corner here too, but I have mixed feelings about it: it is very cool in itself, but because of the shouts of the visitors, it is simply impossible to sit inside during the performances - it is VERY-VERY loud... My wife and I ordered Roasted Ham and Shepherd's Pie. For the drink Alexander Citrus Blonde and Robot Diablo Mexican Lager beers. Everything was good. The pie was very hot, but quite tasty. The wife's Roasted Ham seemed a little small at first, but due to the good portion of tasty meat in it, this feeling quickly passed. So both dishes had a good proportion in size. After eating we decided to stay a little longer and ordered a few cocktails: Old fashioned, Honey Pot and The 3 Peat. I liked the taste of all three. The only thing I could find fault with is replacing a bunch of small ice cubes with one big cube/ball in Old Fashioned. The prices seem to be a little higher than expected, but they seem to be normal for such an order and place too, so it's up to your judging(70$/person).
This is one of my favorite pubs of all time. It’s large and clean and fun. The food is outstanding. The bartenders are attentive and personable especially Owen. You must go and see for yourself.
Traditional Irish pub. The wait staff is amazing! Fun atmosphere. Live music in the evenings. The club sandwich was huge but lacked flavor…the fries were fresh and hot!
Really my kind of bar. The atmosphere reminded me of my favourite bar back home. We came for a quick drink and a snack, so we got an Irish coffee, sangria, and an order of the blarney chips. The blarney chips are a bit expensive at $23 for what you get, but tasted good. Service was great, and it seems like a great place to come for drinks with friends or colleagues after work.
This place is everything I wanted it to be. Great food, great beer, great service, great atmosphere. I will be hitting this place every time I visit Halifax!
Alec! Amazing bartender! Came up from the valley for a night in Halifax and stopped in to this bar and was impressed with the level of service and friendliness! Great guy!
Food was great and staff were very friendly
It was a great evening with my friends at your location. The service was excellent and appreciate the friendly atmosphere. Thanks!
Absolutely a great place to start our vacation in Halifax. Incredible food and service.
Amazing vibes and great place to hang out in Halifax
We arrived at 5 pm on a Sunday night. There was live Irish trad music. Loved it! Parking: Down the hill and turn right there is a parkade (about 3 blocks away).
Excellent Location Awesome Service Great Food... It doesnt matter what time of day or what day of the week you go, everything is always amazing!!!
Nice pub with a good pint of Guinness and decent fish and chips
Poor security services. Doesn t allow us to go even inside excusing we r drunk:
Love it here for live music
Very tasty beer)))
Was a great night until one of the bartenders became very confrontational. My cousin simply asked him where his poppy was. As it was Saturday two days before Remembrance Day - many of his co workers had their poppy on but not him. He didn t like this question and said rude remarks. He was very unprofessional and honestly seemed to not care about coming off as disrespectful towards his country and past fallen Canadian military members. Won t be back.
Food was ok at best. Shepard s pie was really cheap on the meat, you could barely find any, just the thin layer of meat under the 90% mashed potato that were dry. Seafood chowder was good but I m surprised it s award winning . Had to add some salt and pepper it was so bland. Bread was really good though. Service was good and I like the atmosphere.
Great atmosphere and space! Great servers and bartenders as well. Very busy with good reasons
The bar was awesome, with great music and a cool atmosphere. I d totally recommend it!
Best salmon I have had in a very long time! Great service and lots of fun!
Excellent customer service great atmosphere Dietary restrictions: Gluten free all good Food : 5/5 |
Food was pretty poor. I had the 1 piece fish and chips for $20 . The fish was well over cooked and the fries where scarce and under cooked. If they want to be a real Irish pub they should go to Ireland and see how good the pub food is over there from Dublin to Cork and everywhere in between.
Once again....5 stars...always great to be home.
Lovely tasty food and great service with a smile. Had to sample the great Irish stew with Guinness Bread along with sticky toffee pudding.
Trendy spot, drinks were a bit expensive
Hands down the best pub in halifax. Fantastic live music. And the place is always rocking. Shout out to my buddy frank, he is a top class barman.
I would say it s a generous 4 stars. It s definitely getting a bit too expensive for the quality of food. the atmosphere and decent service when packed is pretty admirable.
I had the seafood chowder and the guinness bread. It was very good Our waitress was terrific. Food
Lovely pub! Fabulous music, vibe, food and service. The live music was a bonus too.
Busy pub
Good food, cold beer, and good service. Huge pub.
I have been here a couple of times in the last couple of months. Both times were great. The service was excellent as well as the food. I recommend Durty Nellies to anyone going to Halifax looking fir a good Irish Pub as well as a good night out.
22 bucks for a tiny chowder is laughable . It was eaten in under 5 minutes with like 4 peices of meat Fish was soggy and under done Slaw was warm and salty ( why is beyond odd) The server was lovely and the toffee cake was very good but that bowl of chowder really ruined my mood
Sat for 2 hours not a single server or anyone doing rounds for drinks is this not a thing? Pretty sure the other clubs we hit up we had a server! I havent been downtown in years but they used to come serve the tables!
Food was very pricey, The loaded Blarney chips and blackened salmon were very good and the brown bread was worthy of its own visit just for that, but the chowder, although full of fish, not potato, was bland due to the broth. It tasted starchy like it was thickened too quickly. The fish and chips was a large piece of fish but undercooked enough for me to send it back. The service was inattentive and slow, even though we had made it clear to our server that we had a deadline for Neptune, and we were there at a slow time on a Wed eve. Service was so slow that in an hour and a half we jad to leave before much anticipated dessert due to time restraints. The bar itself is beautiful.
Witnesses were fantastic and the fish chowder was great
This became our local when visiting Halifax for 3 days. The food was good and the service was efficient. A grat pub experience. Cool decor
Very comfortable. Was able to accommodate party of 6 on a Friday afternoon. The Shepards pie was the best thing ordered at our table. The honey pot gin cocktail was great as well. The brown bread with honey butter tasted like dessert and the music was a perfect volume to enjoy in the background while my party was able to hold a conversation across the table.
Delicious fish and chips, and drinks were great. Street noise can be loud at times if you sit outside, but the weather was gorgeous!
Great atmosphere with live music. The place was packed even on a Tuesday and Wednesday night
Kaitlyn is an amazing waitress! Always remembers all my friends and what they like to eat and drink. She makes everyone feel welcome
Live music! He was excellent and a regular the server told us. We all enjoyed our meals. The Irish soda bread was a hit, as was the 3 beef stew. Lots of beer on tap, but I had a Guinness Zero. Wed go back again for sure.
Bartender mickey was amazing!! His signature drink pretty in pink was absolutely delish! Excellent service and vibes
Sick live music, Hailey was very attentive and in high spirits, helped us have a great time. Thank you so much, I truly appreciate the great service that Hailey had provided to the end off my East Coast trip right! A must go for Halifax!!
A must Go-To, when in Halifax
Great chowder and Celtic music. Nice selection of beer and wine. Waitress was awesome providing tasters since we not familiar with drinks
Friend went in for a random glass of milk, much to the staffs amusement. They were very accommodating towards his random request Parking: The pub is located on Argyle Street, which is open to pedestrian traffic only Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp available on the side of the pub, leading into main floor
Fun place for live music and drinks!
Authentic Irish Pub experience.
What a blast!!!
Durty Nellys captures the essence of a traditional Irish pub right in the heart of Halifax. The warm, rustic ambiance, complete with dark wood accents and cozy nooks, makes it an ideal spot for both casual drinks and hearty meals. The menu offers classic Irish fare, with the Guinness stew and fish and chips standing out as top choices. The selection of beers, including Irish favorites like Guinness, perfectly complements the dishes. With live music often adding to the lively atmosphere, Durty Nellys is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience a true taste of Ireland in Halifax.
Terrible food and atmosphere. Saw a rat
Spent a couple of nights in here while visiting Halifax. Great atmosphere and service.
Seafood chowder was amazing.. staff were delightful.. great service. Food
We were there to listen to Celtic music. There was a fiddler and a guitar player, we enjoyed the music and the ambiance. The Seafood chowder and Irish stew were really good.
This place is busy but worth the wait. The entertainment here was really good. We didnt try the food this time just stopped in for a few drinks and music and Dirty Nellys really nails it on atmosphere. Great list of scotch and bourbon if thats your thing.
Such an amazing spot despite it being a largely tourist area. We stopped in on Sunday, September 1, shortly after we checked into our hotel and they had a session going, my only complaint is we went in around 5:30p and music ended around 6pm. I wish there was a similar venue closer to home because this is an awesome place. My dad and I both got the roasted ham and it was perfect!!
Had a great time trivia and then music. Nice pub atmosphere and GREAT food. Parking: Parked on the side street after 6 PM for free. Food : 5/5 |
Wonderful place to grab a beer and lobster roll. Friendly staff!
Had a salad with quinoa and kale I dont remeber the name of it, it was very tasty and would recommend.
We had seafood chowder which won an award and the sausages. The chowder was delicious. Beautiful pieces of seafood and vegetables. However, the Guiness bread was not good. A bread with a banana bread texture and way too sweet. 2nd course was good, especially the sauce and the potatoes. Service a bit slow.
Delicious Irish fare. Properly poured pint if Guinness and the seafood chowder was terrific!
Friendly locals and great bartenders. Had a nice Guiness and good conversation.
Very busy place! Great atmosphere
Stopped in during a stopover on our cruise. The bartender was wonderful. He gave excellent recommendations on beers and ciders and their poutine was absolutely amazing. We will definitely be back!
Perfect stop in Halifax, Nova Scotia! Great atmosphere, feels like a true Irish pub. We sat outside, with a view the water, down the street, below. The young ladies taking our order and serving us were pleasant, helpful, and each made us feel welcome. The Jameson and the local cider drinks were delicious. The poutine and fish stew hit the spot. Glad we found Durty Nellys on our walk about town!
Our server was Kelsey. We are both nurses and have worked as servers through the years. She is the BEST server either one of us has ever had! Friendly, honest, real, kind, efficient just sooooo impressed! The fish chowder was incredible, and the wings were the best I have ever had in my life and I have had many! 15 out of 10! The music and dancing? Icing on a sweet cake. GO THERE!!!!
Usually this place is great! Well not so much today. We all know it s peak wasp season, but we chose to sit inside today (work group) Well the wasps were attacking us inside. It was awful. And also the food took over an hour to even get, and the waitress didn t even check in with us. One of our people had to ask. Then when it came we had to box it up to go because we were on lunch from work. Bad experience all around.
My/wifes food sat around long enough that a skin dormed on out soup from it cooling off before they brought it out. Also, they spared every e pensive to put as little seafood in the chowder as they possibly can. It took 30 minutes to get water refilled the first time. Don t go. Easist no tip ever in my life
First and foremost a big thanks to Frank on bar. My fiancée and I were in town visiting Halifax with intentions of relocating here from Ontario. Frank and the rest of the staff at Durty Nelly s made us feel welcomed and at home from day one. A sincere thank you to him personally. Thank you all for a wonderful time! We ll see you again!
This is not the first time Ive been to this pub and I really like the atmosphere, music, service, everything is great . Thank you
The atmosphere was great. We were able to talk with our friends without shouting or interfering with other table patrons. Fish chowder was mediocre, more broth then fish. Would come here again. Food
Must go to
Very Busy fun place
My server Makayla was somewhat rude service was poor . I had a dirty blon burger Food tasted good . A guy with a shirt drop the food didn t ask is I like salt for my fries or anything I was quite disappointed with the service . I didn t see the server for like 25 min . Next time a saw her I ask for the check to get out of there as soon as possible. I did not feel welcome . What makes this dinner passable is Live music was good on 19 sept 2024
Really good fish and chips.
Great Irish pub. Good food, Great service. Outstanding.
Heard about this place from our Taxi driver. He was not wrong! Ooh, the guiness bread was AMAZING. The chowder was so good, and the Mac and cheese was damne fine.
Easily became one of our favourite places while here visiting Halifax Our server, Yanick is the reason we came back more than once, he was very good at his job and super personable!! He also did not make a bad recommendation when it came to drinks!! Awesome patio and great variety of drinks! Thanks Yanick!! Cassie and Mike Food
Great pub with great entertainment
Thank you for an amazing night!! Live music was great and our bartender/server was amazing. We moved away in 2006 and coming back home to great atmosphere meant the world!!
Food was disappointing both in portion and flavour. Our server was great but food took a very long time.
Busy place. Great service. Try the Dirty Blonde beer. Wonderful.
Always a great time and delicious food.
Had the crab cakes and the stew they were both delicious nice patio on the pedestrian street and some live music inside!
Prototype Irish pub in the heart of Halifax.
A good place for having fun during my visit to Nova Scotia, their having live music, and walking distance from the waterfront.. a good price for drinks also and love their long island ice tea..
Beautiful patio, stellar service, wonderful food, and exquisite drink menu. The club sandwich with house made foccacia was delish, and the cocktails were fire .
This place made our vacation super special. Loved the entertainment, and surprisingly no cover charge which meant more money for beverages..!!!! Food
Very nice irish pub with very good foods and ambiance
Sat at the bar as I have many times. Had a nice pint of Guinness and a Smithwicks, ordered some of their mozzarella bites, they were fantastic. Live music was amazing.
Awesome place, bartenders are mesmerizing to watch work. They are incredible!!!
A very fun place to party
Great food! Music was a bit too loud, though Im sure they would have lowered the volume had I asked.
Quite possibly the slowest most un attentive service experienced in Halifax. Save yourself the pain and go elsewhere
Sat at the bar, got probably the worst service, ignored, and then the food was so meh I regretted stopping there. Do yourselves and favour and find somewhere else to go.
Perfect Guinness pint. Lovely atmosphere.
One of the best places in Halifax for live music. Decent selection of veggie options on the menu, and a great beer selection.
Had fish and chips and a burger. Fish was above average and burger tasty.
Great pub atmosphere, great service and excellent food/beer!
A popular pub
Can say the server, she was very friendly and helpful when ordering. Great service and great atmosphere, love the music. Ordered their Voted #1 seafood chowder, not sure who was voting but far from #1 and pricy for portion but they are in tourist haven. Also tried the Guinness stew, not bad but again a bit pricy for the portion. Would happily return for the music and a pint but would find food else where
Food and ambience was great
A little noisy
Great place for a drink in the weekend
Great times and great music
The seafood chowder was phenomenal the pretzel was fresh and soft and the beer cheese was super tasty. Drink selection was great and sticky toffee pudding a 10/10 inside would have been too loud for me but great atmosphere if that is ok with you and outside was not as loud. To top it our service was top notch to boot. 10000% recommend
My wife and I love Durty Nelly s as the staff are outstanding, atmosphere electric and the food top notch.
Fun spot
Better place in Halifax Very good service Server Dylan was exceptional Food : 5/5
We spent a week in Halifax and Durty Nellys was the only spot we felt needed to be visited more than once. If you end up going at night, make sure to go during the day another day as its a completely different atmosphere
Very nice Irish Pub in Halifax!
First time at this public house. Went there with folk from work as it were. Not a big bar guy, so not a lot of reference for me. Place was cozy, but very loud. Actually, I think it was our collective table that increased the decibel level to the point my Apple Watch thought it prudent to warn me that permanent hearing loss was but a round or two away. At some point a wee band appeared, two violinists (fiddlers?) and a guitarist. They played the most delightful music and I just stood and watched them. In fact, I could have stayed and listened to the song that they played (pretty sure it was the same song o er and o er) all night, but more bars were calling our little group, so we had to hightail it out of there. I cannot speak to any foodstuffs, as it was not the intent to eat at this time. I had a bottle of San Pellegrino and I have to say it was delightful. A splendid time was had by all, and I am sure once we left, the entire establishment sighed in sadness.
Best seafood clam chowder I ve ever had. Absolutely incredible.
The food is good. Also the service. The place is clean. Its not outstanding and out of this world, but more than an honnest beer and meal. Its a good place to go!
Super fun! Always a great atmosphere! Thank you for the great table for our reservation!
Beautiful place well located, we believe in it! a real Irish pub, the decor is fabulous and an excellent place for a small dinner, dont miss the nacho style waffle potato plate
Had a great time listening to the music and enjoying the food and Guinness. Vegetarian options: The burger was fine but the sweet potato fries were excellent Food : 4/5 |
Great pub to visit in Halifax! Regular live music, great drinks and nachos were really good! Service was quick.
Great atmosphere, really good service.
Great lunch on the outdoor patio lunch. The team managed our party of 8 very efficiently. The fish and chips were excellent!
Abysmally long waits to get a drink. Like a severely understaffed bar team.
It sucks, but its where everyone in Halifax seems to go. Its a place with drinks and live music you cant hear.
I have seen pubs that look more Irish but in this case its an irrelevance. This is simply an excellent pub on Halifaxs Argyll St. The tomato soup and irish stew i had tonight were of the highest quality washed down with a Kilkenny cream ale. Not cheap by any means at nearly $50 but you get what you pay for.The girls serving were excellent at their jobs.Very friendly and efficient. Classy decor and an obvious place for watching sports. A high end, trendy establishment. Well worth a visit. The food alone is a treat.
Always a great time when you go to Durty Nellys. A local MUST! Fabulous bartenders-great staff and such a positive environment to enjoy a drink, or food from the unique and delicious menu! Food
Food was really good but pub was very busy and loud!
Unsmiling staff going through the motions.
Love this pub!!
What a spot to take in the Euro final with good people, tasty beers, and great munchies. Being from out of town, the GM and staff made sure to take care of my family, we appreciate it and had a blast!
Been here many times, food is decent pub food and service is always great. Last time we tried to go I had made a reservation a week in advance knowing it would be a busy day and had even confirmed the reservation the morning of, but when we arrived they told us they don t take reservations on Sundays. Not sure why I was allowed to make the reservation and why nothing was said to me when I confirmed it. This was really disappointing and the hostess was incredibly rude when we arrived. They did not have tables available and we had to leave to eat elsewhere. We will not be returning for a while after this disappointing experience.
We sat on the patio which overlooks the hill down to the waterfront and it was such a cool location. Amazing service, lots of beer options and some delicious food all make for a great pit stop.
This has to be a local fav. Extremely busy on a weekday night. Bar staff was friendly, knowledgable and made for a great experience. The food is legit! Try the poutine with the Demi.
Durty Nelly s is as authentic as it gets for an Irish pub, complete with perfect Guinness pours. Located a few blocks from the Halifax waterfront, the outdoor patio provides great views of the harbor. Highly recommend for a day time drinking session or a sit down dinner.
The food was pretty good, but the atmosphere was not my favourite. Live music and watching a televised sport are both valid choices for entertainment, but having them together in the same space makes conversation almost impossible, and the atmosphere a little overstimulating.
Great full size British Pints and cool, old school pub atmosphere!
Great pub, excellent nachos.
Its tragic theres no more brunch. One of the only reasons I stopped by. Please bring it back! I miss the white pudding!!
If youre going to have a website. At least keep it up to date instead of having events listed that dont exist. The waiter can drop his attitude as well when a customer questions him about it. Tons of Irish pubs in the area that serve their customers better than these guys.
Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options Food
Warning stay far away. Some of the worst bartending I have ever experienced anywhere before. Waited 20-plus minutes trying to get a drink. Spoke to people waiting even longer. Tried holding my arm up, wallet out, speaking to the bartenders and even trying to holler to get their attention. Eventually, I whistled which finally caught the attention of the bartenders. They became extremely unfriendly and proceeded to tell me that is not how I get a drink and they arent dogs. Extremely unfriendly staff, very poor service from the bartenders. I would highly recommend not wasting your time by coming here. Unfortunately, I had to learn the hard way. Luckily Halifax has far better bars. Id highly suggest anywhere over here.
Highly recommended
Some of the best Haddock we have ever eaten. Great service but a little noisy. Food
A fine list of scotches to choose from and a great meal. Kid-friendliness: Not the type of place to bring kids. Food : 5/5 |
Have to get there early to beat the rush
My friend and I were just in Halifax for a day or two and we came across Durty Nellys which was bumping with a great atmosphere on a Tuesday. Their live band was excellent and there was a good mix of crowd in terms of age groups. Food rating is N/A we just went there for night life.
Great pub for a pint.
Been going there for years. Staff are exceptional. Will keep going back as long as its open.
Great super
Great crowd
A fantastic Irish pub with a great atmosphere and a good selection of drinks. There is a great atmosphere here and it is a good spot to watch live sports.
What a wonderful and happy little place! Dont skip over the spinach dip appetizer, it was wicked good!
I am a simple guy. I see Liverpool, I love. Lots of Liverpool souvenirs were at display, which being a die hard Liverpool fan, was a real delight. Maybe the owner is a Liverpool fan? Not sure, perhaps I will ask next time. Excellent service and atmosphere as well. Would love to come back many times.
Try their seafood chowder and if youre in the mood, catch their live music.
Go during a Liverpool match
Food was good. Gravy on the poutine was amazing. Service was great.
Loved the live music we never found on the Cabot Trail...
