Where Halifax meets Italy!
I will always recommend this place every chance I get. My husband and I went here for date night after recommendation from a friend. Everything was so good from when we stepped in the door. The manager was so accommodating and kind. And our server was not short of great. We had the seafood chowder (best one we’ve had yet with how creamy and perfectly seasoned it was), fried calamari(crisp and delish), beef ragu (super tender beef in great tomato sauce with grated Parmesan cheese) and Roasted Garlic Pappardelle( so tasty and creamy). Dessert isn’t a big menu but the cheese cake was divine. Nothing was over done and it was just right. We will be coming back. But if you don’t get anything else, get the seafood chowder. It was delightful. I didn’t get a picture cause it was wolfed down, haha.
Location is perfect for walking all those calories off after a delicious meal. The food is quite amazing and service superb. We had the steak pizza, pier burger and seafood chowder. The chowder was definitely one of the best I’ve had in HRM. Didn’t require me to add anything. It was delicious. For the price though it’s quite small. Pizza was 10/10. Hot. Fresh. Flavorful and quite pleasing to look at. The burger was yummy but a little on the dry side. The patty was juicy but small and could’ve used more sauce. I’d give it a 7/10. Cocktails could def use work. Watered down in my opinion. I’d recommend sticking to beers/wines over cocktails. All in all great experience. Great service and delicious food at a decent price.
The food was decent. The servers are warm and cordial. It has a good ambience with a view of the harbourfront. Good option for a date night. The only thing that needs improvement is their dessert.
Wow! Talk about a change in a restaurant. Last time I was at was at cafe Chianti thoroughly disappointed but I heard the location changed and decide to try it again. Not disappointed. This time was much better and I will return. Seafood chowder and calamari were delicious and both half so dishes were flavorful and satisfying. There was also a bar linked to the restaurant very nice.
We decided to dine here on Valentine’s Day. We love Italian food and this place had relatively good reviews! I’ll be honest, my expectations are pretty high when I’m paying $$$ for food. The food was good but it wasn’t amazing. Our appetizer was cold in the centre. The berries in the sangria and on the cheesecake were almost gone bad. The atmosphere seemed a bit dated but it was nice. Service was excellent. Overall, it feels like a place older folks would enjoy but I prefer our other tried and true Italian spot on spring garden.
This was my first time at this location (I had been several times to the one that burned down years ago). The appetizers/starters were amazing! We shared crab cakes, focaccia bread, and calamari and all of them were mouth watering. My seafood linguini main plate was equally delicious. One of the teens with us had a pizza which ended up burnt (not the one I took a picture of) but they apologized and did not charge us... In fact when out of their way to make us satisfied. I don't often notice the music, which for this style of restaurant is a good thing but here even the quite music was very pleasant - they had jazz styles cover songs which set the mood perfectly.
Great atmosphere, and the service was spot on. The waitress was friendly and made sure everything was going smoothly. The quality of the food was excellent. The filet just melts in your mouth. I would recommend getting the seafood linguine with marinara sauce. However, I found the pizza a little lackluster.
Love the new waterfront location near the boardwalk! Staff was super nice but we felt like we may have been forgotten about as our meal lasted 3.5 hours from start of reservation to when we finally paid. It was a steady night and we were catching up with a friend in town visiting but it even took 20-30 minutes for our bills to come once we requested them. Food was tasty.
Amazing. Sealed with a .
We used to eat here frequently. We havent been in about a year. Food quality is not the same, the cesar used to be my fav. This time it had no flavor, no bacon and like 2 croutons. My husband always gets the muscles. This WAS his fav place to get muscles. This time that came out smelling really fishy and no flavor. The wine list is half of whatvit used to be. The bread came out burned, the waiter said he would remove it from the bill but later we noticed he did not. My steak was cold and considerably smaller than my husbands. We were still buying drinks and the restaurant was about a quarter full, however the waiter asked us twice if we wanted the bill. The second time he asked we paid the bill and went to the westin bar to have cocktails instead. Extremely disappointed we always like to support local over chain restaurants. When you spend money like that ypu expect a certain quantity. I feel that perhaps there may have been a change I ownership/ chef
Wonderful place for an intimate dinner.
Yurek out waiter was great!
Leaving a review for our amazing server tonight, Yurek! The food was really good, my friends and I had a great night :))
So bad, had a reso and shoved us in the corner by the washrooms place was not even half full, service was so terrible, took 20 mins to even get water, when we did there were lipstick prints on our glasses not from us . We left after an hour because nobody had come back to take our food order.
Delicious arancini and seafood linguini
Seafood chowder was done to perfection but I think what really topped off our experience was the incredible service that we received from Cait. I have been to many establishments across Canada and it is very rare that we have such an exceptional server. She took the time to get to know us understand what our foods would be most appropriate. We ordered based on her recommendations which were spot on. We will certainly come back to your restaurant and ask specifically for Cait. Well done
One of the best seafood linguine I have ever had.
My friend and I had an early dinner and were lucky enough to eat outside. We shared the calamari which was excellent and I had the gnocchi which was pillowy soft and delicious but super rich (the server aptly warned me ) I would definitely go back because there are so many dishes I want to try!
Great service and our server Yurek was the absolute best!
My husband and I had an awesome meal Here. It was terrific! The service was spectacular and always checking on you! Yurek our waiter Was always right there. I will definitely go back and recommend to anyone!! Top notch! Thank you Cafe Chianti and Yurek
Awful food. My main course was Halibut but the only thing I could taste was salt. The appetizer was great but the portion size was scanty! I am never ever coming back to this place! Ambience is overrated! Don t fall for the seaside view!
The price was a bit too expensive for us for the portions. But the food was very tasty and the staff was very friendly. The room has a great feeling with the blue sofas! (Clear recommendation for the pasta with cream, garlic, chicken...)
This restaurant was on the waterfront opposite our hotel , we enjoyed the excellent friendly service and exceptional food , highly recommend, Mike & Niki ( UK) Vegetarian options: Spinach and ricotta ravioli was exceptional
Came here for the first time after Chianti moved! Still love the food and atmosphere as usual our server Yurk has been amazing too!
Love this restaurant by the waterfront! Great good and great location! Perfect place for cruise ship passengers to get a taste of Nova Scotia! Highly recommended!
The food was good but the service was terrible. I attended a group function, with a reservation of nearly 50 people. They double booked us with another large event. We waited HOURS. It was past 9pm when we received our dinners. People in our group were finished their meals while others hadn t received their food yet. They also made many mistakes with the steaks- some were over or under cooked. I heard the cafe is under new management. I would not recommend. They seemed like they had no idea what was going on. They offered to reach out to us tomorrow . After the bill was paid
We booked the evening on a night they were closed for a private event. The service was excellent and the food was delicious.
A small nice cafe by the river side. Their gnocchi is a must try. And the pizzas are equally delicious. The ambience and the service is also good. Thank you. Vegetarian options: Mushroom gnocchi
A little pricey, but enjoyed the meal and atmosphere and the location. Nice place to treat yourself.
I recently went here and it was delightful! Our server Rebecca was amazing and so nice. The dessert was divine aswell.
Wanted to book a table for my bday land and advised it would be for ten people and the owner told me that in order to accept the booking each of us must spend at least $100 each. Normally they just add 17% gratuity automatically but this shocked me. So I told him no. I can t ask my friends to spend that much especially when they make minimum wage. My god this is a wild policy. People spend on average maybe $60 but $100?!? Yall trippin for real
Olivia was brilliant. Lovely lady and made our experience super!
We started going to Cafe Chianti when they were at South and Hollis, and then went numerous times when they were on Barrington St. This was our third visit to their new location. Once again we had an excellent meal with great customer service. Cafe Chianti never disappoints, it is always consistently great.
Spinach ricotta ravioli, Caesar salad and focaccia bread were especially good. Yurich ,our server, was exceptional. Very attentive, lovely manner, He is a keeper! We will be back!
Server was beyond amazing! Food was perfect. We sat near the kitchen but couldnt hear a peep from them and the servers were very quiet coming and going from the kitchen.
Made the mistake of coming here for my 10 year anniversary. Made a reservation for 7. Showed up and was told I made the reservation for 8...even thou I didnt.. Service was horrible. My partner and I ordered the exact same meal. Chowder to start with pasta as the entrée. There was a deal on if you got a drink and a starter the entrée was free. We asked the waiter if we ordered a bottle of wine would the two entrées be free..... only recieved the deal for one entrée.......false advertisement. With my bottle of wine I ordered a coffee. Coffee never came. When my wife asked for the coffee again (after an hour) the tall redhead waiter was rude and clearly didnt remember us ordering it the first place. No sorry. No empathy. On top of that they forgot our order. After 45 mins they came out and asked for our order again. Even thou we both ordered the exact same thing. Both courses were the size of a starter. The chowder was small. There were only 5 or 6 pieces of ravioli. The chowder didnt take too long but the ravioli showed up well over an hour after the starter. I left hungry. Food was good. There wasnt enough of it. To make things even worse after waiting ages for the entrée they delivered it to the wrong table. Had to ask for the bill twice after waiting another 30 minutes. Bill showed up wrong and I just paid for it as I wanted to get out of their. Ambient blue light for our table was provided by an ultrasonic pest repeller that was plugged in directly next to our table. The place was dirty. There was a pile of dirt underneath a dresser directly next to us. Would not recommend.
Food was delicious. We will definitely be back.
Great experience, ambiance and food at our dinner tonight! Would definitely recommend this restaurant. My fiancé and I loved the food and our waiter was amazing!
Wow! This a place where you can really feel at home. Cozy environment, elegant decor, highly professional staff, and more. Food is made with love and care. You can tell they are passionate about their service! Highly recommended! Will certainly be returning!
Best pasta I ve had! Yurek was amazing as well.
We visited for the first time, last night! Great food and the service from Yurek was exceptional! He was very polite, efficient and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend.
Had our Valentines day dinner at Cafe Chianti. Had the focaccia, Arancini, Mushroom Paparadelle and Ricotta and Spinach Ravioli. All were perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned and scrumptious! MJ was our server and prompt, attentive and friendly! Atmosphere is quaint in the best way. Highly recommend!
We have been going to Cafe Chianti since they were in their old location. This was the first time we went to their new place in Marginal Road. First impression, GREAT! As usual, food is amazing. Service is astounding and ambiance is great. Highly recommend this place!
The good was good but the dessert was the best part.
Loved the food and service was excellent!!! MJ you are top notch!!! Thank you for helping make our 50th wedding anniversary special!! The dishes listed below were not what we on the menu but we all enjoyed what we had, spaghetti bolognese, ravioli, parpadella. Yummy Food
Great place. Friendly staff, and exceptional food
Absolutely fantastic service, staff are incredible and friendly, food is unbelievably good
The Food, atmosphere and service was excellent...we will definitely go back again! Parking: Great parking on New Years Eve!
Dietary restrictions: Can accommodate for celiac. Food
We love this place! The new location is superb. The decor creates a beautiful atmosphere. The service is excellent, Kristy attended to our every need and is so professional and thoughtful. The Caesar salad is the best in town and our steak was cooked beautifully, so tender and tasty. The tables are well set out and private. One of our favourite places to eat in town, it never disappoints. We will be back soon. Thank you for a memorable evening. Parking: Close to restaurant
Nice customer service, food was amazing, great place to dine in overlooking water. And they gave us free flowers too
A magical evening from start to finish thanks to Christie and Yurek attending so thoughtfully to our every need. The food was exquisite and the service was top notch. The elegant ambiance took our dining experience over the top! We highly recommend and can t wait to dine with you again Parking: Parking was a dream for downtown dining! Not only is it free but it is right outside the restaurant and lots of spaces to choose from.
Excellent food and service.
We had a great dinner experience at café Chianti, the atmosphere was fabulous right on the water. The seafood linguine was too notch and our server Maddie was so lovely!!
awesome carbonara
Loved the nova 77, had a warm veg salad. Food was excellent.
The service and the restaurant are lovely and ideally located in Halifax with a beautiful view of the waterfront. Now the food...we ordered some fried calamari that were arrived on the table barely warm and soggy from all the sauce. The calamari was still full of cartilage. The main was barely okay, the flavours were lackluster and for the price, I was expecting a lot more. The dessert was the worst, the tiramisu had no coffee or any type of liquor in it and was made with cream cheese. It wasn t Italian in any way, shape or form. It was just some overly sweet stodgy cake with some cream cheese filling. The PC brand tiramisu from the supermarket tastes better. The bread was the only saving grace, it was obviously homemade and delicious. I do hope the food quality improves in the future because it is a lovely place.
Great experience great food, very nice and clean owner is great!
Food and ambiance was great will be returning !
So good
We waited over 40 minutes for our food without being checked on, only to finally be told our food order was never rang in, and we were still charged for our drinks (a single glass of wine and one beer). We left to eat somewhere else.
Terrible service, incompetent waitress, 1 hour wait for a taco that was never prepared, she served 2 meals to 2 customers who arrived after me, left without eating.
Literally best gnocchi in Atlantic Canada. Beautiful view of George s Island from the restaurant. A must try in Halifax on the waterfront!
Absolutely delicious, one of the best tables in HRM!
Terrible service. Waited two hours for our meals, staff did not address this at all.
The manager, Rodger, was so wonderful for making my experience there top notch as I was in search for a good pasta! The staff here were also friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be back!
Service was just satisfactory when it was even present. Took a very long time for food to come out, and it wasnt even busy. It appeared the owner or manager (questionable) was more preoccupied with their own food and beverage(s) than their actual guests. Food was cold, limp, small portion and presented as having sat under a heat lamp for a long time. I would not return nor recommend this establishment to anyone visiting or living in HRM. This was not my first time here, or their front of restaurant pub, but wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, Im now giving a PSA to those. Maybe youll have a different experience, and I hope you do!
I had such good dinner here. The service was amazing I believe her name was Kristy. we got the calamari and the bread to start as well as some drinks from the bar the wine was very good. The calamari is the best Ive had in Halifax. we also shared pasta and pizza which were both good.
Parking: Incredible food with fantastic service competes with the best restaurants I have been to around the world! Beyond the food the employees are what make this place absolutely fantastic, the GM Christi makes this place operate flawlessly! Thank you for the amazing experience!
The short of it. There is much better Italian food to be had in my own kitchen (and I am of Indian heritage.) The long of it Our server was very friendly and nice but we were given three wine menus and one food menu for the three of us. One of us asked for a straw with her drink and we had to ask again for a straw. Then we had to ask if our bread was coming. We were told the bread was taking a while as it was frozen and had to be thawed out. (Why are we being given frozen bread at Cafe Chianti?) Then we got the foccacia which is usually a moist rich springy bread loaded with olive oil but this was a dried out version of it. We then had to ask for napkins which hadn t been given to us yet despite getting the bread and olive oil already. Then we had to ask for cutlery. Finally our dishes arrived after what seemed like a long wait. The waitress never asked if we wanted pepper or parmesan and never came back to ask how the dishes were until we were well done from hunger and ate it despite it not being good. One of us got carbonara. Now I make carbonara at home all the time. It is delicious when done right. You take egg, fresh grated parmesan cheese and olive oil and combine it and then pour it into a pot of freshly strained piping hot spaghetti and stir it and take it off and on the heat and add pasta water to get a delicate light creamy delicious sauce flavoured with a careful balance of salt pepper and perhaps some chili flakes. Thats what I make at home. At Cafe Chianti, their carbonara was essentially undressed spaghetti on top of a raw egg yolk with barely a hint of parmesan. The other two of us got the ravioli di zucca. Usually fresh ravioli is delicate and melts in your mouth. At Cafe Chianti the ravioli was hard as cardboard. Pockets of heavy salt. And a heavy hand of way too much parsley overpowering the dish. So a ravioli hard as cardboard over salted and over powered with parsley. I can find better ravioli pasta at the fresh pasta aisle in the grocery store. The manager acted surprised at our feedback but given the reviews on here she should be well aware of how bad the food and service is at her restaurant. She gave us a discount of about $15 or so bucks. Back in the day Cafe Chianti was a really good Italian restaurant. Now it is really bad. I will not return. Much better Italian food in my own kitchen. The owners and managers should be embarrassed to serve this poor quality food.
Great first experience at Cafe Chianti! Amazing at tentative staff and some amazing culinary magic behind the scenes everything was amazing!
We had such a wonderful time. It was our 43 anniversary, and the food was amazing. The staff are the best , and the service was impeccable. This is our New Best Place to go. We will be visiting The Cafe Chianti in the near future. 5 stars for this place.
Delicious food and impeccable service - Thank you especially to Rebecca :) Vegetarian options: The staff easily made the parpardelle dish veg for me :) Food : 5/5 |
Food was tasty however the service was extremely slow. We waited for our main for a long time. We requested more drinks but they didnt come.
Beautiful food. Staff was very nice. The problem was with a new staff. We waited a long time to order. The new waitress forgot to tell the kitchen to start our mains after our appetizer was done. An hour later we were still waiting! We finally asked for an update. We were pleasant through out and luckily did not have to be anywhere ( like Neptune). If we had tickets to something it would have been a total disaster. They apologized for the error. New staff have to learn so we were fine. All good. But we were to slow getting our bill too and table cleared although it was not busy by the time we finished- it was getting very late! The person in charge/ management also apologized. From the bill, they gave us the 5 oz wine and appetizer free. Honestly they should have done MORE. It was a bit classless of this manager or whoever she was. Cheap too after such a huge amount of time of ours wasted and is not getting upset. If we had fussed she would have likely done more but this review will suffice. The management should have made it free/ half price or even given as gift certificate to return again for a better experience. That would have been a class act. But nope, no such thing. Accidents happen and that is fine but the restaurant management should have made up for the error instead of skimping out with the very bare minimum. Lots of great restaurants in Halifax- I would suggest looking elsewhere. This restaurant really just wants your money and not particularly concerned about your dining experience.
I would fly from Seattle just to have dinner. The food is like nothing else and beats out all you have ever known! Thank you for this experience I promise to be back!
Best food I have had in my life, no exaggeration. Absolutely delicious entrees and dessert. Friendly staff.
Great service, good food, good location, easy parking, but the dining room was rather cool for our liking.
Thank you to Kristy and her team for making our corporate event such a success! You all pulled off our 50+ attendee dinner perfectly! Dietary restrictions: We had a few people with very strict dietary restrictions, and everyone was accommodated.
We enjoyed another fantastic meal here this evening. We were saying that we have enjoyed meals here for the past 25 years or so. 3 different locations, and in all those years we have never been disappointed. We have many other restaurants in the city we enjoy, but Cafe Chianti is consistently excellent
This restaurant is poorly managed, the food and service can be better and the only pross is the location.
Hands down the best Italian food in the city This place also has fantastic servers and a great view of the water Food
I had the burger today and it was delicious. Cooked to perfection and just the right amount of fries. Great service as usual! I will be back :)
I have to say it was lovely to discover this beautiful restaurant in Halifax. I cannot believe I have not gone there sooner. Yes The delicious food atmosphere was lovely and our server was so efficient. I look forward to going back soon.
Excellent food, service and drinks! Very pleasant atmosphere.
Wonderful experience for our holiday lunch.will be back again and again.
Stopped in for a drink in the pier pub. Great atmosphere and service.
As part of a Christmas party, we were very well taken care of. The tenderloin was amazing, cooked to perfection, Caesar salad was delicious, and the lemon cheesecake topped it off! Everyone enjoyed their meals!
Awesome service, Sara was a treat to be with celebrating our anniversary ! Cheers
Went to new location on second day open, found long hair in crab cakes, no acknowledgement from manager at all only did not charge for the crab cake.
I went to the new Marginal Rd location with a group of 7 friends for dinner and drinks. The food, cocktails and service were top notch. Couldn t ask for more. The staff were friendly and attentive and it was a great experience for all of us.
Staff was rude and unaccommodating. Try the bicycle thief instead.
The seafood linguine is the best Ive ever had.
It was a beautiful sunny day and saw the new location at the Seaport farmers market. Thought it would be a good spot to stop in for a bite since we saw a bunch of empty tables in the patio section. I had heard good things about the spot and it looked like an awesome spot on a sunny day. We went to line up to be seated, this is where everything went downhill. They seated the older couple in front of us after he had stood there for a good 5 minutes waiting.( They didnt acknowledge we were there or tell us that they would get back to us so we just stood there waiting for the hostess or anyone to either tell us they were fully booked and not to wait) It took them another 5 minutes for them to come around and ask us what we wanted. The hostess walks away and says she is checking on a table for us. When she comes back ( 3 mins later) she asked us if we had a reservation. We said no, then she says that they cant take anyone that isnt a reservation because they are full. ( which she could have said 10 minutes ago when we were standing there waiting to be seated) as we walk away the group behind us asked for a table as well, Then we over hear her asking dining room or bar? to which we are left shocked because they just turned us away saying we didnt have a reservation. not sure if its just under staffed, not trained or what it was that day but definitely not a good experience nor good service.
Such an amazing experience! Fabulous atmosphere, incredible staff, insanely delicious food, what more can I say? We stumbled upon this place and wanted to stop in for a drink. Although they didn t open for a half hour the very generous general manager offered us a patio table. This incredible customer service prompted us to come back 2 hours later to celebrate our anniversary. Our server (both times) Madison S was FABULOUS. Although we have to catch a plane tomorrow, we re hoping to squeeze in one more visit. Thank you for the Maritime hospitality xo.
Big portions for such a high end restaurant! Parking: Free on Sunday evening.
Comfort food, delicat drinks and great service
Great New Waterfront Eatery The new Pub located at the end of the cruise ship terminal and attached to the Cafe Chianti is well worth a visit. We were there for lunch about a month after the Pubs opening and were impressed with the quality of the food and the very friendly atmosphere and service. The P.E.I. Mussels were perfectly done and served with a tasty garlic butter sauce - there must have been 20 or 25 of them in the bowl. The Fish and Chips were just what you want and expect in this traditional pub dish. The batter was light and crispy and the chips were spot on. The six beer taps included a good variety of options. We had the Stella Artois and Garrison Irish Rose (a local craft beer). Give this new place a try - you will be glad you did.
Outstanding service and food. Had a special alfresco event for 21 people at Cafe Chianti August 2022 with a quiet location by the harbour. Kristy Sutherland is general manager extraordinaire! Special thanks to Kristy for working tirelessly. Class act all the way. She made sure we were happy from everyone aspect. We had garlic shrimp, fried calamari in sauce and pizza for appetizer and we had a selection of mains from steak frites (AAA tenderloin), seafood linguine (fresh from the sea) and the best baked halibut and mashed potatoes. Dessert was outstanding especially the tiramisu! Better than some from Italy! Great selection of wines and beer (we had the house rose). Michael assisted with our service and couldn t be more professional. Roger you have you have a fantastic staff and offering. Kudos to the chef!
We have been traveling up the east coast and other places have said that they had the best lobster rolls, but these were the best lobster rolls we have tasted! The seasonings were so complementary to the lobster! The bread was toasted to perfection! Thank you Roger for chatting with us. It was truly delightful. Next time we are back for a visit, we will for sure be stopping by again!
The seafood linguine, the bistecca, and Italian popetta, everything tasted delicious. There was alot of seafood mix in the linguine! I would recommend this place if your looking for great drinks and very appealing superb tasting food! Waitress and other staff were so friefriendly. This was a great spur of the moment dinner. So happy we found this place!
My husband booked reservations to celebrate our 29th Wedding Anniversary on October 2. 2022. We had dined at the 2 previous locations and thought it was a safe choice for dinner. The atmoshphere was quaint and boades a lovely view of the harbour. We ordered our drinks and appetizers, crab cakes (we received one for $16, the menu clearly says CAKES which would imply more than one)and the warm bread. The bread was delicoius however the crabcake was cool and had to be sent back. We did receive a fresh one which was fine. Our main course arrived. My husband ordered a pasta dish which was piping hot, I ordered the halibut on risoto. My dish was luke warm at best (the flavours were good but obviously the dish sat waiting for some time). We had to flag our server down again to take my dish back to reheat it. I sat and watched as my husband enjoyed his meal...thank God I had eaten some bread to hold me over. As my husband was finishing his meal I asked our server to cancel my food as this was not how I intended to celebrate our Anniversary. She did apologize profusely and attempted to rectify the siuation by sending us home with 1 dessert. We dont normally ever eat dessert let alone without having dinner first. We ended up spending $85 including tip (he had 2 beer and I had 1 glass of wine) for me to sit and watch my husband eat dinner. Maybe the Chef was having an off night.
Everything we had was so delicious! The pasta, arancini and caesar salad were all very good. The manager came over to check on us and she was very lovely and the service overall was amazing. This was one of my favourite spots while visiting Halifax!
Great food and service! Our appetizers were fresh and hot, Caeser salad was crisp. Absolutely delicious mains and generous portions. Host and servers were prompt, attentive and professional. Overall excellent dining experience! Parking: Close location - well lit.
Edit: the food changed over time, not as good as it was before, still nice atmosphere. Original post: Too expensive for us to choose on our own, but I look forward to going there for the work Christmas party! Good food and good service.
Great staff and food. Right on the waterfront!
Excellent service and delicious food! We had the arancini and calamari as an appetizer and both were delicious! Our mains came out hot and tasted so good, we couldn t leave a crumb on the plate. Service was great and very professional! 10/10 would recommend coming here, for any occasion!
Lovely ambience and amazing food! Has good vegetarian options as well. Must try!
Good atmosphere, polite people, however somewhat slow. When it arrived out of the 3 dishes we tried the seafood linguine was the best. This was slightly on the spicier side but, very creamy. The restraunt was hard to find at first, as it is kind of blocked by the building beside it. Lots of parking thankfully dont have to find street parking.
We happened to stumble on Cafe Chianti last night, and it was a truly lovely experience! The ambience, the service and food were excellent! !Try the steak, and save room for dessert! Thanks Roger and staff for an excellent experience! Kevin & Lindsay
Service, food and atmosphere is terrific. Best seafood linguine in the city.
Cafe Chianti...halifax. Our family so enjoyed your very excellent service last week. It was so positive and delicious, server was so right on! Thank you again. We will be back for more Ravioli!
Excellent service, food was delicious and the atmosphere was classy. If you want friendly service along with a taste of authentic Italian food this is your place. Shoutout to the owner who came to our table after your dinner to check in on me and my partners experience. We will be back.
My husband surprised me on Valentines day by taking me here and well, I gotta say I loved it. The food was delicious, the staff was really friendly and the decoration is amazing. Such a romantic place! A must visit!
Very nice Italian restaurant in downtown Halifax. Excellent ravioli; tasty appetizers, and a good wine list. Excellent service. Will go again.
Wonderful restaurant. Great service and delicious food!! Haddock was very good, also the gnocchi was great. We really enjoyed everything!
Seriously delicious pasta. I would recommend the lobster ravioli. There are huge chunks of lobster tail in the pasta, which were cooked well. Great location downtown. Upscale atmosphere for a romantic night out. Decent wine list.
Amazing food, excellent service. Staff is so polite. Strongly recommended.
Amazing food, amazing staff and ambience.
Outstanding food and service, very warm atmosphere not found in many restaurants, will definitely be a repeat customer!
A cosy atmosphere, warm, good food and the service is excellent. Thank you Lindsay and Chrissy for a wonderful evening.
Management really hopes everyone forgets how they treated staff during the pandemic.
Wonderful meal with outstanding service, true fine dining experience.
The food was well prepared and presented the staff were lovely and fun to talk to and the ambiance and the comfy seating were awesome I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!
Food was delicious, staff was friendly. Highly recommend
When I think of Chianti , I think of silence of the lambs where Hannibal lector cannibalizes his victims while drinking this wine and some nice fava beans. Luckily you don t have to worry about that here and can enjoy some good food
My favorite restaurant in Nova Scotia.
Excellent food, great service. No crowds, worth the walk up from the waterfront.
Service is professional, me and my friends tried several dishes on several visits like the seafood linguine, breaded chicken, tenderloin, cheesecake, calamari, overall all items tasted good, but not special, could cook the same at home, and that is what we all agreed on. The Italian cuisine offers much more variety and dishes, that could be incorporated in the menu. I hope that for my review I do not end up sleeping with the fishes
I honestly left out of this place feeling unpleased, there was a gentleman going around greeting tables, not sure if it was the owner, I believe his name was Roger. I watched him as he went back and forth, sometimes a third time to EACH table except OURS. Laughing, offering a glass of wine etc. our table was skipped and overlooked by Roger several times. The tables he circled and spoiled were all white folks as our table that was not receiving that same attention were not. pretty darn obvious of the favoritism that was shown. We felt unwelcomed, neglected, and confused. It is heart broken to experience this especially in these times. Most definitely will not be returning as these feelings will forever stick with us.
We have eaten here before. It was ok
Very good wine selection. Service was amazing. Food was delicious. Exceeded our expectations. I felt the atmosphere totally reminded me of Tuscany. I would definitely go back to that restaurant.
Waitress was very good. Food was delicious but far too long to get our food
The food was so delicious, the service so friendly and helpful. We had a large party eating here last night and they did everything they could for us to make our meal perfect.
Great place, great food,great staff!
Nice vibe, cozy restaurant. We dined there for birthday and enjoyed the food. It was nice that it was super close to our hotel too, short walk!
Delicious food! Everything I tried was excellent. The caesar was fresh and delicious, the steak perfectly cooked and the tiramisu melted in your mouth.
The restaurant was full of guests enjoying the various menu offerings. I opted for their meat lovers pizza and it was delicious.
Lovely place with very good food.
Again an outstanding dining experience. The waitress Kristy remembered us from five months ago...the owner visited our table and the food top notch. Loved the whole dining experience. Will be back.
Fantastic food and service! Will most definitely go back.
I always enjoy my experience at this restaurant. Tonight I had their steak cooked medium rare, which was absolutely delicious. The staff are always so professional, courteous and always available to refill drinks or take your plate away when youre done. I highly recommend!!
Very nice atmosphere and delicious food. We bought a Groupon for $100 worth of food and drink for $60. This made our night even better by saving a few bucks. Id definitely recommend the restaurant with or without the Groupon.
Fine dining and excellent staff
Everything was delightful. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection. The service was professional and friendly. You have to try the bacon wrapped artichoke hearts!
Overall pretty satisfied with the experience. The service was awesome, the environment was perfect, the food however wasn t as good as I expected. The lamb was a little bit disappointed, but the pasta and the wine are just perfect. For this price range, I was hoping they could do better.
Had a reservation last night for 7pm, managed to be seated right away. Ordered Lobster Ravioli, which to be honest was very tasty. The issue I had was it didnt show up until 8:40 pm, and rather a small portion. After we left we had to make a stop for McDonalds on the way home
Loved it, always enjoy going.
Slow service and bland food. Was great years ago but we will not be returning.
Amazing. The best food weve had in the city. Dont compromise, this is where you need to be.
Romantic
Simply exceptional!
Such a beautiful spot and the service is excellent! Most of the servers have worked there for a long time. The pasta dishes have so much flavor, you really can t go wrong with any of them. Throughout the year they have Groupons that pop up.
Lived the food and atmosphere , blackened haddock was amazing
This restaurants owner laid off their entire staff and their head chef back in March and now theyve reopened without bringing any of them back. If youve had a good experience here before you should know that the people who were responsible for that are no longer working here. Owner refused to give accurate RoEs and to pay out severance to long time employees. I will not be supporting this restaurant or any other restaurants owned by the Kenny family including Kennys Pizza.
The owners laid off the entire staff at the beginning of the pandemic and hired a completely new staff without telling the old staff and now the old staff is fighting to get RoE s. I definitely won t be visiting next time I m in Halifax
Owner sucks
Wish I could give this restaurant 0 stars. The owners laid off their entire staff in March of 2020 during the pandemic. Just recently in June theyve re-opened with entirely new staff - they even replaced the head chef. I cant imagine supporting a business that disrespects and treats their staff so poorly. The staff who worked there before the pandemic now have no jobs and cannot qualify for government assistance. This restaurant cares more about its profits than its workers. It doesnt deserve your hard earned cash!
Management is unethical. Do not support
Laid off the staff in March and hired a completely new staff without telling the former workers they would not be coming back.
Owner with a terrible attitude. Fired all past staff during pandemic.
Great service
Great experience as always. Your staff is so attentive. Food? Absolutely not! Each dish is a masterpiece of incredible flavours. Every morsel is better than the last one. The Lamb is delicate yet powerful in flavour. Been half a dozen times, once when it was clearly beyond packed and service lacked for a minute. But when the staff knows there s an issue, they make it right. This restaurant is one of the finest in our city! Already can t wait until the next visit
Excellent food and staff
I am not fan of Italian food but this place i would totally visit again. The service was amazing. The food was amazing. I am so impressed with the sevice received and will visit again. Thank you cafe chianti for an amazing evening.
The food, exquisite
Wonderful dinner and a lovely ambiance. The new Bruschetta is great. Service was excellent. Would definitely go back....maybe tomorrow!
