Masterchef Canada Finalist Andrew Al-Khouri invites you to dine in his beautiful dinner & brunch restaurant on the Halifax Waterfront. Open kitchen, great drinks, and an ever changing menu.
This is my favourite restaurant in the city. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. We had the Chef's burger, the Sheppard's pie and the hot chicken sandwich, they were all amazing! And the end of days breakfast is the best brunch food I've ever had!
My friends and really enjoyed the food, the presentation and taste was on point, however the server messed up all our drinks, and just kept them behind the once’s she messed up behind the counter and we could hear her talk to a customer at the counter that the drink would be her after work drink, which is extremely inappropriate, After to correcting her on the drinks we still had to remind her that we were waiting on our original drinks, she walked out of the restaurant, and was gone for 15mins, she came back brought the food out and the drinks, we were without any cutlery. It felt like every little basic had to be requested, Which is simply ridiculous. The ambience did not complement the food, felt like eating fine dining in a Montreal burger joint.
Redefining Chillax ! Stumbled across here this AM to some fantastic food and super friendly service. . My first time trying an ahi tuna benny which was excellent down to the last potato! I’ll come here again when I’m in Hali.
Went there to try their famous oysters, but they weren’t serving them due to the season. Ended up trying the Ahi tuna avocado sandwich, and it was really delicious. Definitely recommend it!
The cheaters fench toast was so good im definitely going back for it. The staff was very friendly and made conversation with us, she even told us about how the cheaters french toast got its name. Its so refreshing from how some servers are polite but feel stiff (which is fine) but their staff really makes you feel at home
Visiting Halifax for the first time and decided to grab a quick bite at aFrite Restaurant!! Ordered cheeseburger and fish and chips, both were super delicious!! Sat outside in the patio and enjoyed the summer cool breeze. Highly recommend this place!
Mixed feelings on this one, but landing on one of major, major disappointment. This place was recommended by my wife's friend at school (a native Nova Scotian) as it's her favourite restaurant in Halifax. We wanted to try one of her recommended restaurants during our visit to Halifax and decided to go to this place for brunch. Our server was friendly and answered our questions, and made a few jokes also - which is always welcome. We placed an order for the falafel bowl, the salmon eggs Benedict, and a small French press coffee. On a side note, what is with Halifax and French press coffee (expensive $5) at restaurants which give you a cup and a half of coffee? First I've experienced this and feels kind of cheap on the restaurant's part. We didn't wait too long to get our food, but there was a reason for this: it was the most sparse and saddest breakfast I've been served in my life. My wife's falafel bowel was half comprised of shredded iceberg lettuce (think Subway style) with a few sliced red and green onions and cucumbers, and 6 small, burnt, falafel halves. The other half were tater tots you'd buy at the grocery store with barely any seasoning. All of this for $17. My salmon eggs Benedict was even more disappointing. Also sparsely plated, one of my eggs Benedict had a single slice of salmon that barely covered the English muffin and had the same cheap tater tots scattered across my plate. All of this for $21 and my watery coffee for another $5 bringing this to the worst $26 breakfast in my life. Maybe we ordered the worst thing on the menu? Everyone else's order looked great (maybe it was the chicken & waffles). What doesn't help is that the server said we made great popular choices when we asked. Clearly that wasn't the case. We went to The Henry House the day before for brunch. Paid less, had amazing service, the food was spectacular. Going here actually left us feeling sad, a bit pissed off, and still hungry after paying almost $60 all-in. Again, mixed feelings on this one. Just steer clear of what we got and maybe you'll have a better experience than we did.
We started off by asking for a mocktail. The server made us her special mix which had a tropical/peachy taste. Personally not a fan of mocktails, but I would order this one again from how good it was. We got a Schezwan Chicken Katsu for appetizer. It was phenomenal. Surprised it's an appetizer and not a main dish. Would give that an honest 10/10. Star of the night 100% For the mains we ordered donair gnocchi and the burger with fries. For the donair gnocchi, it was very flavourful. The sauce wasn't too sweet which we really loved. The gnocchi was very soft and fresh. The burger was worth the price for sure. I feel like the caramelized onions with the mayo i added for a personal preference made a great pair in the sandwich. I asked for the same mayo they put in our Chicken Katsu appetizer. (Yes it was that good) We ended it off with a brownie. It had a dark chocolate flavour and was rich. The raspberries on top were not overpowering it, I personally don't prefer fruits with my chocolate but i surprisingly liked this pair. In general the food was an easy 10/10. Service was outstanding (sorry I don't remember her name, but she was great and understood how we wanted our food and drinks made). 10/10 Bathroom was clean and tidy which is always a good thing to see. Well done and definitely coming back again for the Chicken Katsu!
Excellent meal, nice atmosphere, friendly service and gluten free options. We really enjoyed our time here and will come back again.
Possibly the best kept secret just steps away from the Halifax waterfront. Phenomal food and service!
Fantastic way to spend a Friday night! aFrites serves best food in Halifax. In most cases I could walk away and try to figure out how to remake it but aFrites left me in awe! 10/10 experience. If you get the chance, you have to go!!
David was a wonderful server and host. Had the Canadian breakfast with tasty Canadian bacon, gluten free bun and a homemade rhubarb and strawberry jam, fluffy scrambled eggs and a large crafe of French press coffee. Very interesting menu with lots of of homemade choices run by a small group of people that are passionate about their restaurant and making delicious food for their customers. Pleas stop by and you wont be disappointed! Dietary restrictions: Excellent gluten free buns! Delicious!
We were drawn in on the promise of a renovated space with a new bar, new menu, and new cocktails. If I am being honest, it felt as if they were only open so they could prep for the week ahead and providing service was second priority. The atmosphere was terrible, the cocktails tasted as if they were made from bar mix, and the food was mediocre.
We visited due to the high reviews, unfortunately we were left somewhat disappointed. The service was the worst part while friendly, it was a miss. It took 30mins to receive our large French press of coffee which was 10$ for about two cups each. This came out after our food had already come, despite asking, so we were left eating then having our coffee.. When our food came out we had no cutlery to eat, no spoon to stir milk into coffee. It all just seemed so scattered we were left asking the server for each thing. The food was okay, coffee was not great, to be honest we just won t be back.
So disappointed! We live in downtown Halifax and have been to a Frite a number of times, breakfast & lunch. It was one of our favorites and we referred a number of people. So we had a business dinner for 4 persons with cocktails. Ambiance and service were fine, but the food disappointed. This was a first for us, inedible fish and chips! In Halifax! Fish was completely dried out and the batter over cooked. Fries meh. Oysters were fine, ahi tuna looked great but the sauce was surprisingly tasteless. Burger good, but its a burger. Dumplings ok, not great (we have some frozen ones from Costco which taste better). Beef bulgogi, inferior piece of beef, ok taste on plain rice with no veg - kinda boring. I get what afrite is trying to do mixing different flavours in eclectic dishes in a small open kitchen, that is why we went. They advertise cocktails but only have four on the menu, the two types we tried were disappointing. But now, after $325, I feel I must apologize to my clients. I spoke with the manager the next day, told him we had a different experience but he didnt inquire as to what it was. My problem now is, with those prices do I risk a return visit?
Great coffee and donuts!
Went for lunch and wasn t disappointed! The burger and fries were fresh and so delicious. The margarita was refreshing. The service was impeccable AND meeting Andrew was the cherry on top. I enjoyed his season on Masterchef Canada and he was every bit as impressive in person as he was on the show. Fantastic restaurant!!
I dont usually leave comments but this is a restaurant that deserves mention and note. I am from the Bahamas and missed Caribbean food while living here in Halifax, NS. To see a dish native to my region was amazing and to have it prepared with such care and passion was astounding. The service was excellent, quick and attentive from start to finish. The atmosphere matched the taste of the food. There was just enough comfort to relax your shoulders coupled with the edgy nature that one would expect from this type of venue. I was not disappointed in any shape, form nor fashion. I highly recommend this spot for date night, a relaxing Saturday afternoon or just a random pick. The owner is friendly and inviting, the staff are wonderful and pleasant and the vibe is pure Canadian East Coast. Dietary restrictions: They cater to pescatarian diets which was perfect for me.
Service was delightful. Wine and beer were good. Its not a huge selection, but all wonderful options in a great atmosphere. Would highly recommend.
Loved it from the beginning till the end. The menu is a variety of stuff with Mediterranean twist. I loved the Zaatar Fries. Also the Lebanese Fattouch ws pretty damn good. The staff is really friendly, they make you feel comfortable. I definitely recommend this place in case you wanna enjoy a cosy place while grabbing a bite and having drinks :)
I went there for my birthday and was treated like a King. Those blueberry margaritas were amazing. The fried chicken on rice was fantastic and the charcuterie was on point. The staff are wonderful and friendly.
i really did enjoy the atmosphere and initial service here. drinks and apps were good. i got the hot honey chicken club, which was dripping in oil, undercooked bacon, and soggy bun. just generally tasted so low quality for a near $20 meal, i didn t finish. i work in the service industry myself, so i didn t complain, just decided i wouldn t be going back. because of the food quality and the ridiculous price, we decided to just round up the tip to the nearest $5. server was not happy with this, so much so that she went over to her friends/customers sitting at the bar and started very audibly complaining about us while we were still sitting about 5 feet away. tips are a favour and no one should be treated poorly by a server over an OPTION.
Was in town visiting from Ontario and had a fantastic meal here. I had the donair meatloaf which was a very delicious take when compared to other donair dishes I ve tried while in Halifax. Our server was very friendly and attentive in what was a very busy restaurant. Would definitely recommend this spot to anyone visiting from out of town and will make a point to stop back in the next time I m visiting as well.
The food tastes great and the service is good. They just need to work on their portions because it feels like I am ordering off the kids menu.
Excellent food and quiet easy going place. Joyful service and the music is very nice. Coming back here for sure Food
My husband and I had breakfast here one of our last days in Halifax. The food was fantastic! Even better was how hands on the owner was. Helping build the summer patio and taking a break to come inside, clean up and then help prepare our meal. Highly recommend the chicken and waffles. 10/10 great spot!
Great food, atmosphere and service.
An amazing experience from an amazing group of people. The food was impeccable, we had an unbelievable brunch.
Great little spot. Have had dinner and brunch here and was fantastic both times.
It wasnt the worst
Service was attentive, efficient, and friendly. Food was fantastic. Andrews fusion of heritage & experience fully on display in his dishes (executed flawlessly by another chef I believe). Just go here.
First time here, but I suspect I will be back. Amazing ambiance. Many great options, and great price point. Parking can be tricky but it s worth taking the time to find a parking spot to get to this place. Looking forward to trying the Donair Gnocchi and carrot cake next time. Our server was attentive and really outgoing. Keep up the good work to all of you!
What an incredible find! We are so thankful we were recommended aFrite, the food was beyond expectations! The staff were knowledgeable and attentive and we cannot wait to go back :)
We had brunch at aFrite. Food, coffee, service were great. Reasonable prices.
The food here doesnt seem to be the same every day. It seems that the chef uses fresh ingredients at the chefs discretion and cooks with his own recipe. Sometimes the customer is the subject of the food experiment. Of course, it can be delicious food or bad food to the customers taste. I ate duck meat. The two sauces under the grilled duck legs were made by the chef himself and were perfect for my taste. But... But... It was too hard whether the duck legs were grilled incorrectly or quickly defrosted from the freezer. I respect the chefs personal recipe. But duck meat needs to be studied a little more.
Great coffee and light snack for brunch. Definitely will plan a return dinner visit.
Cute spot, friendly staff. I m not a coffee person but I wasn t overly impressed with the $10 French press coffee (for 2 people ~ 3 cups) The end of day brunch something was yummy with the syrup all over it but it tasted almost table syrupy vs pure maple syrupy still delicious. Chicken was very nicely fried but mine was still cold in the middle (I think it s pre fried but was juicy and fully cooked, I checked, so I don t think I m at risk of food poisoning) waffles got a big soggy sitting under the food/ waiting for chicken? But I m picky about waffles. The shakshouka (ordered because I ve never tried it before) wasn t my jam Just a lot of tomato paste with eggs and almost soggy bread (did the bread even have butter on it??? did not taste buttery) sad. But maybe other people like tomato paste and soggy bread I d give this place another chance because they have a good looking French toast
Smaller portions than I hoped for, but the food was fantastic!
One of the best fries in town but its all for me.... didnt enjoyed the meal....less tastiest burger I ever had in my life. Sorry Food
Really enjoyed this place. Nice drink menu and great food.
Get the carrot cake. You will not regret it.
Had the traditional breakfast. 3 eggs Sunnyside up they were perfect. Very inviting place. The service was friendly . I need to go back now that their patio is open.
Great staff. Cozy small restaurant. We parked at pier 22 area walked harbor front before stopping here. Expected plate full of donair gnocchi but side was empty. Left room for fries but not there. Glad we ordered the truffle fries earlier. Parking: Park at end of Harbour front near pier 21 and walk
Very friendly accommodating my daughter is in a wheelchair and they were making sure that she was comfortable and very welcome
We went for brunch. The food was amazing. I had the eggs Benedict, the best Ive ever had. My friend had the seafood arancini, 5 days later she is still swooning. The service and atmosphere were as good. Only thing.....too much food.
Amazing food and even better drinks, well be back for sure
Our server Julia was a delight, amazingly friendly and fun. JFs cooking is absolutely amazing, you have to try his carrot cake. The music was a blast from the past!! Food : 5/5
Server was very friendly..Went during brunch time so had access to only the brunch menu..Had the lobster arancini with some extra sides for my kiddo & I which was sufficient..
If your kitchen is visible to the guests you should really make sure the chef is following proper hygiene practices. Gross to watch someone dip your french toast with their bare hands and then wipe them off on thier shirt instead of washing.
Halifax is full of expensive restaurants. This was more mid priced. Nothing we ordered was exciting
We visited for my partner s first time in Nova Scotia. We had the Syrian flatbread, donear gnocchi and burger. It was all well made and the serving staff were awesome. Would definitely go again. Highly recommend
Food was amazing so many flavors and we will be back, however there were not enough servers on this morning and by the time my coffee got to me it was cold.
Beautiful interior with attentive service, aFrite, though a little warm and humid inside, provided great food and atmosphere.
Top! From service to well put together dishes, everything is top notch. Tres tres bon! Food
The food here is amazing and the staff is super friendly, warm and welcoming. When were back in Halifax, well make sure to come by again.
The burger was outstanding...friendly staff and a fun atmosphere
Amazing food, fantastic service!! Get the carrot cake!!!!!!!
The staff were very friendly.
Stepping into this restaurant was a pleasant surprise, highlighted by the charming presence of our server who sported the most remarkable moustache Ive ever seen. This iconic facial hair seemed to perfectly encapsulate the wholesome and inviting atmosphere of the place. The service was truly outstanding, with our moustached server exuding warmth and attentiveness throughout our meal, making us feel like welcomed guests in a dear friends home. As for the food, the appetizers, especially the hummus with donair meat, showcased a delightful fusion of flavors, while the burgers and fries offered a satisfyingly classic main course. The carrot cake dessert was a standout, delivering a comforting and flavorful finale to a genuinely enjoyable dining experience.
Very good seafood and salad.
DELICIOUS!!!! 100% recommend
One of the best meals we have had in a while. The kimchi poutine was such a great combination and the donair gnocchi was so flavourful. Great service and cool atmosphere. Can t wait to go back.
The servers were very friendly and attentive, the food was good, they gave us the drink but we waited more than 40 min to have our food :( The restaurant was full and the staff was not enough to serve everyone. You have to go with a lot of time in advance to avoid hunger stress because it is a long wait
Have a bad taste in our mouths and we didnt even get to eat here. Checked online to make sure they were open, arrived at 7:30pm on a Monday to find the doors locked but all the lights on including the patio lights. Initially excited quickly turned to disappointment and frustration. Not sure well be back to try again if their posted hours are inconsistent.
David is fabulous. Tasty snacks and a low key atmosphere. Definitely make this a stop of yours
a decent place to visit if youre in town
The servers were very unwelcoming, almost like they didn t want us there, while the owner sat at the bar and read out loud all the reviews he could find about his restaurant online. The floors and bathroom were very dirty and the place in general was just very unappealing. The only thing worth coming back for was the hospitality and friendliness from the head chef, and the food he made was very good, I had the donair gnocchi. Other than that don t waste your time going downtown Halifax just to go to afrite while there are so many other great restaurants in Halifax.
The food here was so so so good. I loved how small and intimate it was for a yummy brunch! The only thing that will make me think twice before going back is the server. She was... well... kind of scary.
Delicious food and great service! Extensive drink menu and everything on the food menu looked amazing
Such a lovely place and delicious food
From the moment we walked into the restaurant, the waitress was extremely rude and unwelcoming. Her behavior was so unpleasant that I decided to leave without placing an order.
Stopped here for brunch - interesting menu for a brunch place - Eg Korean dishes along with your typical chicken and waffles. I really liked the food and the service was great. The portions were a bit small but a lovely visit nonetheless.
Always amazing and creative food.
Really tasty brunch spot! Its not a big place so you can make a reservation to make sure youll have a spot. The shakshuka was really good, also the donair breakfast.
One of my favourites - definitely recommend for the delicious food and consistently good experiences.
Great place to eat food with family.
Super friendly server and lovely that the chef came to check in as well. It was a cute, cozy environment and great food! I had the French Onion Burger and my father had the Jambalaya, Calamari starter and cannoli dessert - all were delicious and flavorful! Will definitely be back. :)
We ordered the shakshouka, chicken and waffles, and mimosa flight for about $80. I will say that for the price paid, the food did not live up to expectation. The waffles were not fluffy enough and the cream on the chicken is a bit unflavored. However, the place is crowded and seemed really popular.
Great breakfast
The food here really talked to me. Bursting with life and flavour. I had the lamb gnocci and calamari. The waitress was amazing.
This is by far my favorite breakfast stop in Halifax. The food is so fresh and tasty, the staff is super friendly and it has a very cool atmosphere. I need to check out lunch amd supper here soon. Definitely put this restaurant on your list of places to go, you wont be disappointed.
Stopped in at the invitation of the sign out front to check out the new bar. Great drinks, amazing oysters, and a great visit with David at the bar and Chef JF. Highly recommend - these guys care!
Dont come, run. Chinese people don t lie to Chinese people. One thing is worse than McDonalds. 26 knives for mutton. When the dish was served, there was no mutton, just a few bites of it was still minced meat. $40 pork, regular, 32 knives for duck legs, very fishy, not as good as salted duck.
Food was great staff was so friendly and was a really nice setting had the chicken waffles and the chicken was sooooooooo good
Grabbed a quick bite here and enjoyed their homemade kimchi! The lobster arancini was a tad too sweet but still pretty tasty. Service was great too :)
We tried as many things as we could on the menu for much and shared them all! Everything was wonderful! Don t miss this one! It s been the best food we ve had all week.
Incredible food, great service, impeccable vibes :)
We stumbled on this place by accident and could not have been more thrilled! Everyone at the table loved their dishes and the customer service was amazing!
Meals are so tiny and expensive. I ordered lamb turned to be 98% pasta rest is sauce and lamb aroma.
I came here during my first trip to Halifax about a month ago and the brunch I had here was probably my favourite meal of the trip. Staff are so friendly and attentive and the food is amazing. Good selection on the menu but not too large so you know that anything you order will be amazing. I had the Bibim Brunch Bowl and it had a nice portion and delicious flavours. I will definitely be returning next time Im in the city.
Excellent service and atmosphere. It s not many places the Chef comes out to see how the meal was. Bravo Zulu. :-).
Atmosphere was awesome, they have a great patio, and its really beautiful inside. Food was pretty solid - the truffle fries slap, but then again Ive never had bad truffle fries. The burger was kinda dry and thin but toppings were good. Presentation went hard, never had a burger served on a piece of slate before.
Awesome food, great service, great music playing.
Delicious food and a nice atmosphere!
Had our last meal of our 14 day vacation here and it was the best meal we had the entire trip. Food was amazing and the service was equally amazing. Will definitely be making a stop here again next time we are in Halifax.
Our family went for brunch on Natal Day around noon. It supposed to be our first downtown dinning out experience with our newborn. Without even tasting the food, I already feel it s a bad decision to choose this place, simply because of the server, she maybe efficient but forgot dinning experience is almost about customer service. She made us unwelcome and maybe a bit discriminated?! (1) We arrived with a stroller and offered a table in the middle, which has no space around to park the stroller. Luckily there re a plenty of tables insides, we asked to sit next to the window where we feel in case our baby cries, we won t bother other guests. (2) Then the same server came to take our order, no smile with 0 patience and limited helpful suggestions when we try to decide what to order. And she didn t ask us if we want a drink and didn t ask my husband if he wants bacon or sausage for his egg benedict. When I point out to her, she seems very impatient and didn t apologized at all. (3) I noticed she is actually very friendly and smile to other guests. (4) Last but no least, she ate snack in front of people, sorry for being picky, this looks unprofessional. Disclaimers: (1) Food here are great, and the other server was very friendly. (2) I have never feel the same with other restaurants in Halifax for the past 10+ years.
Delicious! Great ambiance, service and drinks. A must in Hali!
Food was super tasty, service was quick and the waitress was so so so nice! Had a great time
Great food and overall service. The staff was open to chat about all cool things to do in the Maritimes which made me feel very welcome.
Stopped in for the brunch menu. We had the French toast and the everything breakfast. Both met expectations, and we full plates. The staff was engaging and helpful. Will definitely consider another visit. Portion sizes were normal.
Location is excellent in downtown halifax, however if you live outside peninsula you will have a hard time to find parking. Layout and decorations, I like the decorations inside, it is romantic and cozy. I also liked the patio outside. This part is Cleanliness, staff keeps the tables and dining area clean, cleaning is accessible. Time to be seated, our experience that we found plenty of seats. Time to be served, reasonable Staff and service: it was ok Time to get the food, I felt it took longe than expected. Food, to be honest, the calamari was excellent the main course was not enough. I found it is less than average course. I ordered orange juice, really it was a joke. Taste was Okey Price, if I want to compare the food qty vs the amount paid. It is $$$. Conclusion, my experience wasnt that good compare to others. In the future, it will not my first choice. Your experience might be different than mine
Always delicious food and friendly staff. Vegetarian options: Options available Parking: Near by parking lot
the food here is absolutely incredible and the service is just as good. will be back soon!
Honestly a place you need to try in Halifax ! The food was amazing and the service we got from the manager as well. We ll be back for sure !
A highlight in our trip in Nova Scotia !!! Really cool place, the manager, who did the service, was nice and efficient !!! Very delicious and affordable ! Can t wait to go back !!!!
The tacos are better than Antojo. Had the beef and lamb.
Excellent first time experience! Food was right on point! Service was great! Definitely a go to place!
The food was incredible
Great food, an irreverent ambience and engaging staff make this little Mediterranean fusion restaurant well worth a visit.
Outstanding food in Halifax!
Friendly staff , theyve definitely got the right things going on . Wife got the gnocchi which was great . I ordered the burger and fries . My belief is that they re created an old time classic . I thoroughly enjoyed it . We enjoyed the Apple cider on tap from the Annapolis Valley called The Classic love how it was served by the keg
Came here from several recommendations from locals here in Halifax. They have a brunch menu, but only serves pressed coffee?. Maybe in Canada this is normal, but in the rest of the world is unheard-of and something a cafe in a country town of 100 would only do. Food wasnt very warm and bacon was like charcoal and overall the flavor was nothing to write home about. same experience to dinning at a chain Cafe here in Halifax. Very over priced, considering the quality just wasnt there. The waitress Rayan I think her name was, was on the slighty passive aggressive side. Was blunt to my friend who has an accent. I hate to make complaints and but I am sick dinning out here in Halifax and paying more than I should for poor quality food. HRM cafes, bars and restaurants need to step up their game. The restaurants atmosphere was only decent thing.
Delicious food, nice atmosphere, good service. We spent a good time there.
Lets open a dining room and call it restaurant Overpriced, dirty plates and forks. Seems like schedule is too hard for waitress, or she need to manage her energy better. Yes, quality of food a bit better than average for Halifax But I would prefer to have 6 Steaks at my hometown then one waffle with chicken here I dont mind to pay even more for the same dish, but if you call yourself a restaurant be the one Dalhousie Howe hall gave me better experience
I am very upset with this restaurant. A good friend commented on one of their posts about how she walks by everyday day and sees the staff in there preparing food and not wearing masks. It is all windows and you can see right into the bar/kitchen area. She was respectful in her comment and was hoping they could explain because this was a restaurant on her wanting to try list. Instead of replying they deleted her post and blocked her. If that doesnt say something about them I dont know what does.
Really great atmosphere and tasty food
Great food! Great service!
Remains one of my favorite brunch spots. Their chicken and waffles is delicious, as are their eggs benedict. For those who cant decide between those two (like me), their EDBD is my go to.
Everything was delicious!
Its been a recent tradition of mine to come here on my birthday with my partner. Like the many times weve been here, the food was delicious and the staff were quite friendly. The chef on the night we went (Feb 28th) did a great job coming out and checking in with us on what we thought of the food. He was even kind enough to give us a sample of a dish he made. Great service and delicious food, cant ask for anything more than that!
Lovely place and staff, great menu and absolutely delicious food!
Amazing food and service from an amazing team!! Great atmosphere as well!!
The food is good, but bad service. When we went for brunch, we waited for about a half hour for our bill. Tables around us had been seated, served, and left before we could even get our bill. We couldn t grab the attention of the server, so I got up and asked someone else if we could have the bill. The sever came back very snappy and as we paid he crumpled up the receipt and threw it on the table. Will not be coming back here, just an uncomfortable situation.
Amazing
Had the 4 burgers and 4 fries deal last night for National Hamburger day! Did not disappoint! Had 2 chicken shwarma, 1 chef burger and 1 truck stop burg... All 4 were delicious. Cant wait to try another one when things open up
Could be the best brunch in Halifax, we absolutely loved it
Amazing oysters and great service
Best food and service, they really treat you like family everytime.
Was really looking forward to this because of the good reviews and I love Mediterranean food, and small hidden gem businesses. Went on Sat 24th july. They were very busy, maybe understaffed as well. We werent welcomed, our menus were just thrown at us. The mussels were smashed up so there was tiny bits of shell in every bite. The baba kafta was so tiny, disappointing, and nothing like a kafta kebab (more like a table spoon of oily ground beef covered in deep fried pita strips?). Lastly, the fish and chips was undercooked. They were really busy, I was really grateful they fit us in. But I would have preferred to cook at home and save my money : (
Adventurous and eclectic food that hits the mark. The quality and execution will bring me back again.
Blown away at the excellent food. Full of flavor and delicious! Each dish is well thought out and makes you yearn to try more. Our server was so very nice. The chef was top shelf. We will be back. 6 out of 5 stars!
I liked the food. It was light and fresh. The menu is very diverse. Its good to have options. Unfortunately, we ran into a bit of an issue but staff handled it well. A glass broke in the kitchen and our food had to be tossed. We were told it would take about 10 minutes to be served. It ended up taking almost 30. That was the only thing that threw me off. Both servers at the spot apologised multiple times. Later, even one of the chefs came by to explain and apologise. Problem solved. I would definitely go back to try a few more things.
Immaculate food here! Definitely in the top two restaurants in the city for vegan food
aFrite is an excellent place to unwind and enjoy an assortment of very well prepared gastronomic wonders! The food is well balanced and expertly seasoned. From appetizers to dessert your tastebuds want more!!! If you want to discover this unassuming treasure make reservations. While we were enjoying the food and amazing staff, countless people had to be politely turned away on a Monday night!!! Chef Jean-Francois was very gracious and talked with us even though he was very busy! He was very charismatic! Eliot, our waiter was excellent and very efficient!
one of the best restaurants for arabic food!
Came for Sunday brunch. Waited over half an hour and watched as both of the 2 groups in front of us left during that time. I get that they were busy, but after 4 tables and left... we still waited another 15 minutes as tables sat uncleaned. I figured the service wouldnt improve once we were seated, so we went to another restaurant down the street. 10/10 Wouldnt wait again.
We waited almost an hour while multiple groups that were ahead of us either left or waited just as long as us. There were tables in the restaurant that were sitting dirty since before we had arrived and still were after we left. The people on the patio seemed to have been forgotten about, one couple having to even do inside to finally get their bill. There was no proper waitlist, just the *only* waiter I guess keeping it in his head while everyone waited out in the heat.
An unforgettable dining experience! High quality food, delicious cocktails, and a wonderful cozy, intimate atmosphere. Cant wait to go back!
Fantastic food. Get the calamari.
Wonderful service and amazing food. The best calamari we have ever had. Its food you still remember the taste of the next day...we had happy endorphins!
Wonderful experience all around! Amazing Chefs, Waiters, atmosphere, location, and of course flavours and textures that Ive never experienced elsewhere! I highly recommend making a reservation since an evening at this restaurant is in high demand. Also... the desserts are creative beyond measure I hope to visit here again soon!
Had brunch this morning at aFrite. Our server Dawn was friendly, and quick! I ordered the Steak and Eggs, and my partner had the Shakshouka. Both dishes came out quickly, hot, fresh, and looking fantastic! Both dishes tasted amazing, they were absolutely incredible. I was exceptionally impressed with the Scrambled Eggs! One of the better brunches I have had in Halifax! Definitely making my list
Good food
Stopped in on a whim for brunch. Very cozy atmosphere and had the most delicious ceasar. Would HIGHLY recommend the chicken and waffles. Never my first choice but so happy I decided on those. Best ones I ve ever had by a landslide. Will visit again when back in Halifax!
Original menu. The meze board is a must to try. The chef goes around the tables to meet the customers. Courteous and friendly service.
A delightful evening filled with great food and excellent service. We had an enjoyable evening dining at aFrite. While it s a little understated, the food and service here are well worth the visit. We dined in a number of Halifax restaurants on our trip, and aFrite rises into the top ranks for friendly, down to earth service, and delectable food. JF is the head chef, and he made sure we were good with our meal, checking in from time to time. Our server, Eliott was a delight. All of our food and drink choices were terrific- so grab anything off this menu- you ll be happy with your choices. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
End of days brunch. That is all
Came for brunch a few weeks ago. Only 1 server who was run off his feet. That may have been the reason he did not bring us even water for 20 minutes and only after I finally got up to ask. It was only 2 min later he brought our food. He did not bring our drink order of mimosas for another few minutes (25 min after our order). That maybe should have been a red flag as they were warm and frankly not good. Flat cheap sparkling wine with a dash of pomegranate juice does not make a good drink. So while the food itself was just okay, we wont go back. There are so many other great food experiences in Halifax.
Good food. Pleasant staff and a safe feeling atmosphere that is enhanced by the foods wonderful aroma and the wonderful people working there
Had my first dining experience with aFrite last night and needless to say, I can not wait to go back. Food and drinks were 10/10 (best calamari Ive ever had in my life). Service was excellent. Huge shout out to our wonderful server David. Great job guys!
Just walking by, it looked a little sketchy but what looked sketchy was really intimate and comfortable. The food was amazing, including the dessert, and the chef easily accommodated our dietary needs of gluten and dairy free. Easily as good as, or better than, any of the higher end restaurants nearby. If you like great food, great service and cozy atmosphere, this is a place you need to try.
Restaurants in the area on a sunday evening were full so we selected this one as we were starving. Ordered the mussels and calamari. Both were excellent, although servings are on the small side. Waitress said it was a lb of mussels, though was only 1/2 lb. The broth was excellent, cooked with pork served with French toast. If youre really hungry you may need to order 2 meals. No happy hour here which was disappointing. The chef was friendly and came by to say hi.
The food was good, look forward to going back and trying some more
We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was great - it is a nice mix of different cuisine.
Amazing eggs Benny. David was very handsome in those sweet glasses. He revived us from our Saturday night. Great atmosphere.
Local or just visiting? This place is a must visit. Brunch, lunch and dinner!! 6 s! Nothing like in NS.
We just had brunch there over the weekend on a short trip to Halifax. Oh my god, this is probably the best brunch place in Halifax. You have to try the Chicken and Waffles or the Donair Eggs Benedict. I wish I could have brunch twice in one day.
This is a great place to go if youre looking for something a little bit different but also a little bit familiar The fries are amazing, The drinks are great and the service is excellent. I really want to go back and try brunch.
Amazing innovative food! Everything we ate was superb, definitely going back.
Food was delicious and ordering was easy! Very kind staff who take pride in their work. Will go back!
Incredible food coupled with incredible staff makes this place a must stop to eat!
Friendly staff, eclectic but complete menu with lots of twists. 100% satisfied and full. Great value and perfect location
The food was absolutely delicious, we also tried their strawberry rhubarb sangria and WOW . The service was amazing, our waitress was really nice and was knowledgeable of the menu. The staff was friendly and really made you feel welcomed .Thank you Afrite! I will definitely be back.
Let s start from the bottom: The English muffin wasn t your average grocery store Ben s English muffin. I suggest it was from a local homemade bakery, it was soft but with just the right amount of toasty-ness. The homemade bacon was on point. The perfect floppy bacon consistency that is still cutable without cracking, however is not uncooked. The egg was spectacular. Cooked to perfection, however they didn t even ask how I wanted my egg. They knew it was just going to be perfect anyway. The yolk was runny enough to mix with the hollandaise, but the whites cooked through. And to finish it off with the delicious hollandaise- creamy, with a hint of refreshing lemon to conclude the dish. The hashbrowns were fresh, and I enjoyed the slivered green onions, however I could have done without the salad, who tf wants a tomato and cucumber side salad with that type of Benny.
Donair gnocchi? Say no more, the Kafta was delicious too
Love this place! Great service, delicious food and the oysters are just
Kymber and JF made our birthday event beautiful. Service at this restaurant is excellent, ambiance intimate but still in the Bishop s Landing mix. Forget the long waits across the street come to aFrite for authentic food prepared with care and service that makes you happy you came out.
Fantastic food. Love the decor. Staff was super friendly. We will certainly be back again.
Great food! Great service!
Great food, great service! Cute atmosphere. Can t go wrong :)
Delicious food! Great location I had the cheaters french toast which was great but my girlfriend had the shashouka which was out of this world! A must try.
My wife and I finished our anniversary night away at Afrite for brunch Sunday morning. Wow! Wonderful, friendly, and attentive service. The menu had a very eclectic choice of brunch items. We had a Korean bimbap bowl and the bacon eggs Benny. Everything was beautifuly plated and delicious. Coffee was served up fresh in your own French press, no waiting for refills! The atmosphere felt so welcoming and cozy. If we lived in the area it would for sure be our go to brunch spot. Will be back for sure!
Pretty cool!!!!!!
Add this to your list of must try restaurants, you will not regret it. While staying downtown for work I was constantly dinning out and this place became my hands down favorite restaurant. The staff are super friendly/welcoming and the food is phenomenal (the chicken and waffles for brunch is divine). I cant recommend this restaurant highly enough.
Love this place. Amazing food and a friendly low key environment.
Amazing meals. All four of us got something different and loved every bite So fresh and so tasty
amazing burger week burger. Nice cozy place. Friendly professional service. they should win burger week.
Unique environment
Perfect for a beer
The atmosphere was nice, music wasnt too loud the only thing was benches were hard so became a little uncomfortable, but not uniquely bad. The service was very really good. The food was absolutely fantastic. The fish and chips were probably the best Ive ever had. Truffle fries were also delicious. Great restaurant would highly recommend.
Loved the atmosphere and ambiance, but menu lacks variety and is somehow over priced
