The Bluenose II Restaurant has been family owned and operated in Halifax, Nova Scotia since 1964, and we proudly provide our customers with quality, home-style meals every day. We offer breakfast and various lunch specials, prepared fresh daily. Some of our seafood specialities include lobster, haddock, salmon, scallops, and clams. Of course, we serve traditional meals such as burgers, steak and seafood, but you can also choose from our Greek and Mediterranean options such as souvlaki and lasagna. We also make coffees such as lattes and cappuccinos, and it’s a great spot to grab a fresh salad or sandwich. The Bluenose II Restaurant accommodates bus tours and sports teams. See you soon!
I ordered the lobster meal Was delicious and well cooked 😋 The service was super friendly One of us ordered steak and one ordered the salmon and both said they loved their dishes as well Will come back when I am back visiting the province
Had fish and chips for lunch. Attentive and friendly servers. Couldn’t think of any issues with their services. The fish was a bit dry and greasy, very heavy breading, and I was having some real difficulty finishing up the three fishes, let alone the fries. Had to drink 2 cups of coffee to wash down all the grease.
The customer service here was great but the food was disappointing. Got the calamari the quantity was great but it was too greasy. The steak was over cooked and dry but I asked for medium rare. The lemon potatoes were salty and too sour. The boiled veggies on the side had no flavor at all. They need to reduce the amount of side veggies because it also came with a side salad. I usually eat everything on my plate but I couldn’t do it this time.
Really great meal from the Bluenose II. First off our server was delightful and she did an amazing job at tending to us making sure we were doing well. The calimari was delicious and I would recommend it to others, the digby scallops were good and the lemon potatoes were flavorful. The chicken strips and fries were tasty with a nice flavor on the fries. Portion size was large and everyone left full. Really good stop for food in downtown Halifax.
Sadly the most underwhelming food we've had in Nova Scotia. I got their "best clam chowder". It had very little clams. Mostly potatoes. Luckily I ♥️ potatoes, and the chowder was well seasoned. The Digby scallops seemed overcooked, and was bland. The lemon potatoes tasted very strange to both me and my friend. Sorry but I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone visiting.
Enjoyed the mellow vibes here. The staff were great and the food delicious. The Clam Chowder was creamy goodness, and the Fish Cakes were tasty with the roasted potatoes. A pleasant experience!
Great little restaurant. Service was very prompt. I had the lobster eggs Benedict and it was great. I'm not a big fan of having salad with my breakfast, but I do feel slightly healthier. The bathroom also definitely needs some love and attention.
First time here in 5 years.Glad to see restaurant has still retained its rustic atmosphere. Comfortable and homely. Cheese and ham omelette and home fries with Multi grain toast were excellent.Huge portion.I had a problem with the coffee.I had a latte, not knowing house coffee was only choice refillable. Latte was small tepid and Bitter tasting and was cold by time food arrived, which did take a little too long since place was not busy. So i switched to house coffee. That little exercise cost $10 My server was a really nice friendly guy.At Bluenose you get a good breakfast in a quiet ,comfortable setting.😊
Great service and food !
This chicken parmesan was delicious and well made! Its a huge portion and you will definitely feel full after this meal! I dont eat seafood, so I had limited choices on what to eat. I would come back here again for sure! Hello from Toronto!
Excellent place. 5 stars all around Food
Hot hamburger hot and delicious and a lot of it. Lemon potatoes were delicious. Panfried haddock was huge and delicious. coconut cream pie was homemade and good.
On another note we stopped in at the Blue Nose cafe on Duke where we had a nice breakfast coming in, this time it was not the greatest, very poor service, food not great, washroom not very clean and a mouse running around in the dining area, in stark contrast to our first impression. I brought it to the attention of the owner who dismissed it not really understanding what I was saying. We wouldn t be going back there.
Had lobster dinner, lobster, chowder and dessert were OK, rest in small plastic pots, horrible potato salad.
Highly recommend the Lobster Benidict. Fair prices, friendly fast service and excellent food quality and portions. Highly recommend. We went on a Saturday morning and traffic downtown was busy with extremely limited parking... especially if you drive a lifted pickup that wont fit in the green P parking nearby. Save the stress of driving and take an Uber.
Good food, good service, highly recommended
Great place to pop in! Food was excellent and the servers were so polite. A little loud, but not horrible. Food : 5/5
I ordered the Salmon main dish. It was served in a small plate, as small was the piece of salmon. It was supposed to be the main dish, so it didn t worth it. Food : 1/5
My 2nd time at Bluenose II. Their lobster roll cannot be beat. Its delicious! I actually arrived before lunch but they kindly accommodated my order for their lobster roll. Parking: Theyre located wherein you can enjoy walking to the Public garden and along the Waterfront.
Perfect place for team meals / catering. A very kind staff and great ownership. Went above and beyond. Food was great, portions were great and the price point was even better. Definitely recommend.
I heard a good thing about this place and decided to check it out. However the service was poor and the food wasnt great either. Also, they are not that cheaper either compared to other restaurants if you want to have a lobster.
RAT! in the dining room, ran across the room at 8pm Food,,, very disappointed as they promoted themselves as a must visit . For our first time in Halifax, we will never return. Diner food(not a restaurant), drowned in butter for flavour??!!? Unfortunately our meal ever and then there is the RAT!
Went out for dinner with my partner, We had the fish and chips and the baklava, The food was okay, The service was great and it really wasnt too busy. So it was a good time.
Food and decor is dated, but a nice piece of Halifax history
Great staff but the fish was very chewy and didn t taste fresh. The coldslaw was bland but the fires was good.
Decent food and pretty good service.
We were in town on holiday several weeks ago we stopped here for breakfast twice. Excellent atmosphere, excellent food and excellent service. Good Prices too..
Great service. The atmosphere was amazing. Loved the live music.
Giant portions for appetizers. Fresh. Amazing service.
Good place! We has a breakfast here and it was delicious. Ordered lobster eggs Benedict, perfectly done and tasty.
The restaurant itself is a bit dated. it could use a refreshing. But the food and service were good. Also the prices are very reasonable.
We were there on vacation
A nice, home-style sit-down restaurant. Friendly staff, nice vibes, good (not quite great) food, but thats not to knock them. Fish and chips were good despite being battered a little thicker than I like. Fish cakes were tasty, but a little dry. Nothing worth complaining about. Honestly exactly what Id expect from the style of food. And any minor complaints were made up for by the nice vibes and friendly servers. Would recommend as a solid family-friendly choice in Halifax. Kid-friendliness: Seemed plenty kid friendly. Definitely a family style restaurant. Wheelchair accessibility: No accessibility to my knowledge. A few stairs lead up inside through the front door. Seating is tight.
Highly recommended place. The menu for 49 dollars, ideal, exquisite marine soup, then lobster with potato salad and another cabbage salad, and an exquisite rice pudding dessert. The girl who served us was very attentive and helpful. We accompanied dinner with a sparkling wine. Everything was a great success. Congratulations. Dont change. Parking: We left it two blocks away, on a Saturday at 7pm. there was no charge.
Great chowder ! Good food overall!
Very friendly service staff. Large selection of food and drinks. Unfortunately, non-alcoholic drinks are very neglected on the menu.
Good food at a good price! A very lovely little restaurant that feels like you ve gotten out of the city for a moment. A big shoutout to Luke for providing quick and friendly service as well as many laughs!
Great food.
Food was good and the staff helpful and friendly
Very delicious lobster restaurant. The service was excellent. Highly recommend to friends.
The lobster was really good. Steak was decent.
Mariners special for breakfast. Exactly what I wanted and needed.
Food was delicious, though dads came with frozen thawed vegetables, so... dont be expecting fresh veg with your food. Service was very slow, but they looked short-staffed, and kept apologizing for the delay. Definitely would return though.
Have yet to experience anything but friendly staff and great food.
Bluenose II Restaurant in downtown Halifax offers a cozy atmosphere, making it a suitable spot for families looking to unwind after a day of exploring the waterfront. The restaurant is conveniently located just a street away from the bustling waterfront, providing a gentle ambiance that feels welcoming. During our visit, we opted for the kids menu and the surf and turf. The lobster was enjoyable, but the steak was a slim sirloin, which left something to be desired. It was accompanied by canned or frozen vegetables, which detracted from the overall experience. While the meal wasnt the best weve had, it was decent for downtown Halifax dining. We also tried the chowder, which, although it contained all the expected ingredients, lacked the rich flavor one might hope for. Overall, Bluenose II serves a satisfactory meal in a family-friendly environment, but improvements could be made in the quality of some dishes to elevate the dining experience
Food is excellent and service as well
Great spot for food!
We came to eat on Sunday, September 8th at 4 pm. We went in because we saw it was full and we assumed the food was good. And so it was! The food was excellent, but the treatment of the woman who was at the bar and as a waitress was really annoying and rude. I could call it racist. I came back from a weekend vacation and I found this. A bad taste in my mouth.
We waited and waited for our supper to arrive, and when it did, the haddock was smothered in a strong tasting herb, and the roasted potatoes were nothing more than boiled potatoes covered in grease and more strong tasting herbs. The only food that was acceptable was the salmon and the haddock, to a certain extent. Dont waste your time (lots of it!), and money here!
Delicious breakfast, huge portions, awesome home fries. They made a mistake and didnt record our large reservation, but they were still able to serve us all fairly quickly given the circumstances. Pretty surprising that a reservation like that would just slip through the cracks, but Im more impressed with the service teams ability to pull off a large reservation with no notice during a weekend breakfast rush. And the food was delicious!
We had a long travel day and once we settled into our hotel we ordered from Bluenose II for pickup. I returned home to find the staff had forgotten to include my wifes Ceasars salad and garlic bread. We called back and they were swamped so I made the short trek back... and heres why they are 5 stars! That couldnt have been more apologetic, they offered a discount, added extra of both items and encouraged us to come back. Incredibly pleasant staff! The food was amazing! My wife had the fettuccine and I had the Atlantic salmon with roasted potatoes and veggies. Best roasted potatoes and salmon ever! My wife loved her fettuccine. Thank you for taking care of us.
Best breakfast ever. Servers was impeccable.
Me and my boyfriend went there in the evening and got the lobster dinner. The lobster was overcooked, chewy, hard and cold. It came with a chowder soup, that was good in spices (taste) but lacking seafood ingredients. The service was good and our server was attentive. Food
The clam chowder and the seafood sampler are highly recommended.
Told us table HAS to tip 18% because more than 6 guests i did not. Ifs fine that it was a big table and its a little more difficult but he literally forgot people existed, when it came to asking for drinks and we had to triple ask him or remind him some of us existed and he gave one of us another persons drink and left before we could tell him they only ordered water. He spilt tartar sauce on one of us and came back maybe like 5-10 minutes later to apologize for it. It really is just a tourist spot. Would rather just starve then go here i cant lie. Bad service and the fact that he tried to get us to tip 18% is wild cause when i asked him if I HAD to he just said we dont have to so I didnt tip at all especially for his bad service.
Great food with a cafe atmosphere. We had poutine, calamari, and lobster rolls. The sweet potato fries were great.
Massive amounts of food . Had the breakfast poutine. Jess did offer to change it when I wasn t sure but it filled me up.
The best lobster benedict Ive likely ever had. Service was a bit slow due to the crowd but the ambiance and food (also beer) made up for the wait.. Will definitely go back for more
Great service, great lobster. Thank you Thomas and team.
The lobster cooked to perfection, everything was very good but we especially appreciated the service from Giorgia (in French) with a generous and frank smile.
Went with group tour people, service was very bad, missing items, have to remind them for each item, food not bad, quantity was very less.
Went here because it is marketed as family friendly. Food was not great. Service was not good either. Kids spaghetti sauce was somehow spicy. Seafood was not near the quality of every other restaurant we went to while in Halifax. Would not recommend based on our visit.
Quite disappointing with the food and service here. The seafoods are salty. I would expect something better in this price.
If you are looking for good food downtown, and you also need to not spend a large sum - this is the place to go. The clams are some of the best I have had, and I have had a lot of clams because I live in Nova Scotia and I love seafood. The location is great - close to the Art Gallery and Historic Properties and the waterfront. Parking is a pain, but thats Halifax. There are spots but you may have to walk a bit.
Great service, plenty of great food. Prices were very reasonable. Would love to go back.
Great food and in good price range for everyone to enjoy.
My family of 5 including our 4 yr old grandaughter had lunch at Bluenose II Aug 2nd 2024. The food was delicious and very large portions. However I am writing this to reflect on the service. We were greeted at the entrance by a young man who introduced himself as Habib. A very genuine greeting making us feel most welcome much like when visiting a friends home. He asked where we wanted to be seated, not always a choice at many restaurants, and took our order for drinks. Along with those refreshments he had the foresight to bring the crayons and activity pages. Our meal came quickly, was delicious for all and of a portion that our granddaughter was the only one for ice cream. During our meal Habib not only checked back during the meal but made eye contact each time passing by. This young man did everything required for us to enjoy our meal and definately has the personality that will bring us back to Bluenose II when in Halifax.
Prices and portions are good, so its good value, but the food isnt great.
Probably great for dinner food, we tried it as a cheaper seafood alternative and would not recommend it for that.
Great owner and server. Very apologetic for our short 15 minute wait. Smoked meat sandwich was authentically Montreal style. Seafood platter was just ok. Scallops were undercooked. Nautical diner felt less touristy.
Excellent place to get meals breakfast all the way to supper!! Every thing is great even seafood and good prices.
Would never go there again, very disappointed! Right off the bat we were forced to tip 18% each just because we were a group of 8 (even though the bills were separated). The veggies were obviously from the freezer. The salmon was dry as hell. The scallops were previously frozen and fibrous. The potatoes were old and had a sketchy sour taste to them. I would definitely not return nor recommend this place to anyone. That was the first and last time for me!
Nothing fancy but it does hit the spot especially on a family trip.
Didnt know you could have a haddock corn dog...awful experience
Very good food and reasonable prices.
While I was visiting Halifax July 19-22 I stopped in for a delicious meal. I highly recommend this place
Amazing place with lovely food and wonderful service. Would recommend to everyone visiting Halifax.
We had the lobster roll and the surf and turf. The lobsters were great, however the steak was thin and the roasted potatoes were a little soft. But the drinks were great, we had the cider and white sangria.
Quick and polite service. East coast charm.
Love this place. Very generous portions. Friendly service too.
Delish...definitely will go again
Nice place like its big brother.
Just had one of the best lobster rolls I ve ever had in Nova Scotia. That s as a Nova Scotian as well
Great food, lobster dinner was perfect. Nice, calm atmosphere, service great. 5 stars
Fantastic customer service from Luke. Definitely an asset to your organization. Very attentive and friendly. Fast and efficient service
Good lunch restaurant! The choices are varied and the place is charming
Nice restaurant with a large selection of fish and seafood dishes. Pleasant service, delicious food and calm atmosphere.
I used to like their burgers, until 2 weeks ago. Ordered the usual burger platter. It seemed to take unusually long. I finally received my food & the burger was the most disgusting burger I ever had in Halifax. The beef patty had the consistency of old shoe leather, there was a strong liver taste on the beef patties, on the bacon, on the bun, on the fries & even on the salad. It was disgusting & inedible. I tossed it out for the gulls. The cook looked like the star from Best Of Bum Fights on YouTube.
Great lobster meal here. Digby scallops were delicious too. Good value.
Liver and onions is great but everything else we ordered was disappointing. Lobster was too chewy, steak was way overcooked and not a great cut. Fish and chips were quite bland. When we walked in, most of the tables were empty and dirty. The staff were really friendly and pleasant so that did make up for the food a little. Might give it another go as it may have been an off day for them.
We had our friends come to Halifax for a visit. We went to different restaurants outside the city. They were all good. So for their last night we made reservations for 6:00 pm and requested a window seat at the Blue Noise. When we arrive they had us by the window in the corner I liked their choice for us. The person that took our order was the best server ever.5 star. The food was excellent. 5 star. I ordered red wine. The red wine tasted different. All wines tastes different. On my second glass of wine. My stomach did not agree with me. I had to go to the wash room. When I returned my wife ordered me an other glass of wine. Could not finish my second glass. When our server returned I asked him about the red wine. I informed him it tastes different. He informed me that the red wine comes in kegs and might be some sediments when the keg wine is low. We asked for our bill and said he would take off the two glasses of wine. I stated I had a drink of the second wine and I will pay for. I have never heard of wine coming from a keg. Now I know why I had to go to the mens bathroom. When you see wine bottles behind the bar I would think wine came from the bottles. I would go back in a heart beat. I would order a bottle of wine next time.
Had the hot roast beef very good
They had a lobster dinner special. Everything was delicious and fast service Our server Habib was very friendly Food : 5/5
Not a great place to go. First, the waitress forgot our Pepsi that we ordered, then when we reminded her and we got it, it was completely flat. Second, the lobster roll was not good, dry and flavorless. But at least it was real lobster. Third, to top it all off, the waitress spilled coleslaw sauce all over me when cleaning up our dishes. Decent clay chowder though, more creamy than clammy.
Very much enjoyed the lobster eggs Benedict
Decent amount of food but quality left something to be desired. Priced fair. Got pork souvlaki. Meat felt a little dry but the tzatziki sauce made up for it. People in area described it as a trucker stop (not in a bad way) and I would tend to agree. If youre looking for something affordable with good portions, i would come here Kid-friendliness: Good kids menu with crayons
Traditional family restaurant. Delicious food, large portions, and reasonable prices. Great downtown view from the corner booth.
Relaxed atmosphere and very good seafood, with friendly service. Generous portions. Thank you!
This restaurant offers the best clam chowder, and the best Lobster meal you could ever have while in downtown Halifax. Their pricing is fair considering seafood meal is quite expensive. Service is great, and we were recommended the best Lager to be paired with our meal. ( Toller gold lager ). I highly recommend you get the Lobster meal and this comes with potato salad and really good tasting coleslaw and clam chowder and it s just $50. It s worth it!!!
Hard to complain about their quality food, everything Ive had from Bluenose ii has been delicious and service is always incredibly friendly.. but today I ordered take away lunch and was served next to no fries, which is not the end of the world but I have to leave this review to point it out before this becomes the norm... sometimes you order and get a heaping pile of food, but lately the take away orders are being skimped on, I would have to assume because its take away and no one can take it back to ask why. Photo is before I ate anything, can see the bottom of the container as if half my fries were eaten.. I also picked this up myself. $20.
Very welcoming and funny waiters, and very good food as well as beautiful decoration
Service was excellent, we had a small baby with us which requires a lot of patience from the waiter and he was great. Awesome to eat all the local seafood cooked properly and not break the bank on Alex. We had a seafood platter and the traditional fish cakes. Would recommend this place so much any time for people visiting the Maritimes and wanting to enjoy the seafood.
Cute place to grab a bite downtown. Service and food were excellent.
Don t order the baked salmon, it s not fresh. Got food poisoning after eating here and had a really bad stomachache throughout the night and finally vomited.
**Summary:** - **Food:** Average taste, nothing special. - **Atmosphere:** Ordinary, not impressive. - **Price:** 10-20% overpriced, considering the downtown location. - **Service:** Very poor, server was chatting with others, not worth tipping. **Detailed Evaluation:** We visited this restaurant hoping to enjoy a good meal, but it fell short of expectations. The food was average, with nothing particularly memorable or unique. The atmosphere was also just ordinary, nothing stood out. In terms of price, it felt overpriced considering the quality and quantity of the food. Even factoring in the downtown location, it seemed about 10-20% too expensive. The biggest issue was the service. The server was busy chatting with other staff at the counter and paid no attention to our table. They only brought the food and never returned. This made us question whether tipping was even warranted. Overall, this restaurant did not provide a special experience, and the poor service was a major disappointment. We will not be visiting again. **Rating:** (1/5)
The best lobster roll !
Great food for great price!
The food was amazing. I never really liked calamari, but their calamari tasted great. So did the lobster roll. If youre getting side, go for the fries. The mashed potatoes was eh. The service was great, very friendly and helpful. The vibe was also great.
Decent food, decent prices. Accommodated our group of 40 with ease.
Can t go wrong with the Bluenose. This place survived the test of time for a good reason. Bonus: Local craft beer
Took a while to get seated even though it wasn t busy, then they just said sit where you want, after a while a waiter came and took my drink order, a bigger table came in so he forgot about me and started serving them, another waitress came over and took my drink order and breakfast order, tea came with no milk, my $11. Breakfast was two eggs and 3 pieces of sausage, after I finished I got tired of waiting for the bill so went to the counter my first and last time there, I d rather have a 5 dollar Tim s sandwich than a 20 dollar bluenose special
Delicious meal. Great service , you get your moneys worth.
Such a great place to grab a bite to eat right at the heart of the waterfront.
My wife and I visited this place for the second time, having had a memorable experience last year. Unfortunately, this visit was quite disappointing. From the beginning, we had to wait almost 10 minutes before our waiter approached us, despite being told by the front server to find any seat. We also saw many group of customers were still waiting for the staff service too. What I notice is that there were over 20 customers and only three staff members, resulting in poor service. We had to grab menus ourselves as no one attended to us, even after trying to call them. Then, we ordered 2 lobsters, and while the food quality was good relative to the price, the service issues overshadowed our meal. We requested a soft drink, but our waiter forgot and left us waiting for almost half an hour. We only received the drink when we asked for the bill and reminded our server of our order. Although we got the apology, the lack of sufficient staff led to an overall poor experience. We left feeling quite upset and under-served. Its a shame because our previous visit was so positive. We hope the management addresses these staffing issues to improve customer experience in the future.
The Bluenose II Restaurant in Halifax is a well-regarded spot, especially known for its seafood offerings. The fish and chips were a highlight, featuring a tasty batter that wasnt overly greasy. The portion size was generous, and the fish was fresh and well-cooked.
It was a good experience overall. Not exceptional but the Service was very good. Lobster roll just ok. Seafood plater, a bit disappointing. Food : 3/5 |
Dietary restrictions: They offer gluten free substitutions Food
This restaurant did not disappoint! There are a LOT of high end dining options in Halifax but thats not for everyone. My husband and I prefer local hangouts, diners and dives. This great diner fit the bill. Comfortable atmosphere, excellent service and a great meal were enjoyed. My husband had the lobster dinner ($49) which included clam chowder, full dinner and dessert. I had the Digby Scallop dinner ($24) and enjoyed 8 giant scallops! I also tried the chowder which was delicious. We had the housemade baklava and coconut cream pie for dessert. Both were excellent!
Great seafood. Excellent service. Well priced.
After getting off the Hopper tour I asked the guide for a recommendation for a lobster dinner. He named a few but said I would go to the Bluenose. The waiter, his name was Will was excellent! The lobster dinner was very good. He gave me instruction sheet on how to crack the lobster. I really enjoyed it. Go hungry if you have this dinner for 50$, lobster, potato salad, coleslaw, chowder and a fresh bun. You can end it with rice pudding but I declined as I was full! This restaurant is close to the water but not right on it.
I deducted a point for serving frozen fries with the fish & chips. Service was great and we really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere.
Was there 4 days ago. We (4 black females)waited over an hour for our meal. The waitress claimed it because the steak which was flat as a slice of bread was taking time to cook. That is surf and turf. I ordered shrimp/veg stir fry. It was bad. They basically took the shrimp and the vegetables and pour some black sauce over it. It was salty. Other folks came in after us and got their meal before us. I feel this restaurant do not care to serve people of Color.
We went for breakfast. They have very diverse and delicious breakfasts. The waiters were very professional, welcoming, friendly and kind. I would especially like to thank one of the waiters, Jessica. He gave us a great service. The prices are very affordable and they also offer you coffee and water service for free, you only pay for one coffee. A hygienic and clean restaurant.
Our server was good but the space needs some sprucing up. The food was disappointing. We both ordered the seafood platter ($27 each) which included deep fried clams, haddock, 5 scallops and 2 small shrimp. It came with choice of potato and steamed vegetables. Nothing tasted fresh. The vegetables and fries were definitely from frozen. It was just okay.
Friendly staff, but service is slow. Food is served piecemeal, rather than together as ordered. Lobster came out overcooked. Rice pudding came out undercooked. Fish and chips has a soft, bready batter. Not crispy and not to my preference. Served without tartar sauce.
tl;dr relatively inexpensive with decent food (solid 3.5) and super friendly service. Fish and chips had a tasty batter and wasn t too oily but was missing a bit of crunch. The coleslaw was really good but the fries also lacked crispness. The clam chowder had a unique dilly/lemony flavour that wasn t my cup of tea but given this place has been around since 1964 maybe it s a local flavour. The mussels were a bit disappointing. The broth was nice but the mussels themselves were small and a bit on the dry side. Not overcooked, but were a bit chewy. Was hoping that sea-side shellfish would be better. Finished it all but for us it s what took it from a 4 to a 3. The Hoppy Boy IPA was excellent and our server was very friendly. No regrets and a good price.
Price is too high for the subpar food and awful service from my waitress - other staff are much nicer. Very British food but definitely try the Digby scallops.
Amazing service and plenty of food
Had to try the Bluenose after hearing about it from friends. Service was great! We wanted to have some fish after eating a ton of shellfish over a few days, so tried the haddock and the fish and chips. The food was pretty solid overall - the roast potatoes with the haddock werent really roasted, but thats a little nitpicky point.
Excellent food, excellent service and close to Scotiabank Centre and the waterfront. Do yourself a favour and have the potato skins, theyre fantastic. We also had the calamari platter and clam chowder and both were excellent. The sangria is light and lovely. We will be back.
We went in as a group of more than 50 people from the school music band. The restaurant served out food quickly and food tasted great
Very nice restaurant with great food! We had the lobster roll with sweet potato fries and it was amazing! The wait staff is friendly as ever and were quick with the service and food delivery. Wish we werent there for a short time otherwise I couldve eaten there all day! We were told about another place to get lobster and then pulled aside by another local guide who pointed us in the right direction and we were not disappointed! Absolutely give it a go if youre in the area.
I love this place and frequent here, I highly recommend their lobster roll (its the only thing I ever get) the staff are great, food is good, and its by the water.
Friendly and delicious food thanks
Ive been to the establishment more than once during my trip in Halifax, and I seldom pay restaurants another visit (mostly cause I like getting a taste of a wide variety of them). That should tell you something about my positive impressions of the Bluenose II. The food always proved flavorsome (especially the pork souvlaki, which felt and tasted suitably meaty), and the waiters were always happy to make tweaks to my meals. It helps that the joints atmosphere was pleasantly cozy and maritime. Kinda like Halifax, then! If youre visiting Hali or a resident looking for your next go-to spot for delectable eats, the Bluenose II has you covered.
Food was fantastic. Service was even better. Our waiter was so helpful and friendly. Lobster was fresh, kids meals were great. Steak was cooked to perfection. 100% would go back. Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly. A true family restaurant. Fantastic kids meal options. Welcoming enviroment.
Every time I visit Halifax it s a must stop for breakfast. Food is great and the service is always fast and friendly.
Service was poor, and the waitress barely knew the menu and potential options. Interior is absolutely dated and benches in the booths are very uncomfortable. As per food, chowder was one of the worst I ever tried where you can barely find any seafood but just empty cream. At least Pan Fried haddock was decent but far away from to be rated somehow above 3-4 stars.
Great local spot for quick and tasty breakfast!
Fish and chips had a layer of raw batter in both pieces. The fish inside was good, but you had to scoop it out of the batter to avoid the raw goop surrounding it. Otherwise, everything else away alright.
Great value and food quality was also great
Great breakfast spot right downtown Halifax. The staff are always great. The food comes out fresh and hot. The place has a relaxing, warm charm.
Loved it. Price right
The lobster Benedict was a hit! Fish and chips were also good. The restaurant makes excellent use of its space and can seat a lot of guests.
Had full lobster for the first time in over a decade, great place.
The best lobster roll in the city.
Great service great food. Excellent customer service from Sam.
Had fish and chips that were wonderful. Great service, great supper!!
Not their finest hour went there because of the great reviews but was dissatisfied Ordered fish and chips which were terrible The lobster dinner was fair Our server seemed to be the owner and they were obviously short on servers She was rushing us out brought our bill but forgot our dessert which came with the dinner When we reminded her she graciously brought us 2 Prices a bit cheaper for Halifax however quality of food not so great
The place is busy because of its location and prices, but not because of the food. The chowder was cold, as was the lobster on the lobster roll. Most disappointing about lunch today was the staff seeming to neglect clearing tables. There was 10 empty tables and I was told to seat my self. Only one table was cleaned so I sat there. In the hour I was there, no one cleaned all the surrounding tables. Having served for over a decade myself, you dont go back to the kitchen with empty hands. Its a bad restaurant with bad staff serving ok seafood in a great neighborhood.
Food and service were awesome would recommend the bluenose burger and fish and chips
The waiter was extremely helpful and had great customer service skills. Everything about the meal itself was great except the fries, Im not sure if they were undercooked or I just got a bad batch but they werent my cup of tea. Other than that, it was a beautiful dining room and wasnt overly busy. It did take 30+ minutes for our food to get to our table though.
Very quick service, friendly, too! Food very good although I preferred the old style hash browns (larger, softer). Very fresh, desserts are quite decadent. Price reasonable for what you get. Atmosphere good, especially when it is not too busy. Vegetarian options: I can get the eggs Benedict with spinach and tomato instead of ham
We got an appetizer, main and dessert, and all of them were made very quick and very good. We were there on a weekday afternoon so there was hardly anyone, and the service was very good. Waiter was checking up on us about every 10 mins, and we were done in about an hour. The decorations are very cute, too. I would recommend their cheesy bread as an appetizer, so good! The view was nice too. Dietary restrictions: I myself am not gluten free, but they have gluten free desserts and they are very good! I got one of the GF cakes and you could not tell it was GF!
Great food, at a good price. We go there every time we visit Halifax.
The food was excellent and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
Great food. The fish chowder soup was the best. Had my first experience eating a lobster whole so that was amazing. Got fish and chips to go.
I was disappointed that the homemade veggie burger was anything but. Super disappointed in the fish, the batter was way too thick and just generally not good. Food
Ate here almost every morning during a recent business trip. Breakfast portions are ENORMOUS and the staff are lovely. Not a fancy restaurant, more like a diner, but definitely good value for your money.
Our waiter was amazing. Great service! We will be back.
Only had breakfast there
Excellent food but what really made a difference was the service. Good service is hard to find these days. Our waiter was excellent. We forgot to get his name but he made our night so much better. He was 19, dark hair, Very personable. We had a table of 10. We were loud lol He didn t miss a beat. Not only did he remember every single order he had drinks replaced instantly, laughed at our lame jokes, had our food out all together and took care to make sure everything was to our liking quite a few times. He took interest in where we were visiting from asking questions and even wished us safe travels back to our home provinces at the end of the meal. The food was delicious and hot, we all ordered completely different items and cooks had them all out together. Prices were better than anywhere we have been all weekend. Totally recommending this place to everyone visiting.
I went here with a group of 8 guys, with half of us ordering the full lobster dinner. Three of us recieved a great dinner, one of us received a lobster that was a lot less full than the others. After highlighting this with the server, they did offer to cook another, but at this point the rest of us were done eating and we had to get going to a show so he declined. He thought that they may partially comp the meal as a result, but they didnt, and that wasnt an issue. The issue was that server insisted that he still pay 18% gratutity due to our group size. I realize that the issue with the meal wasnt the servers fault and my meal was good but I would be frustrated if I was in his shoes.
We had a gorgeous breakfast
Good selection of diner food. Generous servings. Reasonable prices and good service. Interior is a little tired but comfortable. Getting in the door could be a challenge for someone with mobility issues. (Awkward steps) Wheelchair accessibility: Cant see how anyone on a wheel chair could get in the front door. Maybe there is a different entrance but its not obvious from the street.
One of my fav spots downtown for a filling breakfast. Excellent service, endless coffee, just right.
This restaurant delivers great food, I ate my food and it was very good, delicious, some would say. My server was this guy with a beard. I don t know his name but he was very nice and polite.
Good food, the restaurant is a classic.
Prices are reasonable and the food we have tried here for the most part is good and in some cases (clam chowder) is great. Staff are very friendly and attentive normally. We will return.
Vegetarian options: Spinach bendict is delicious!! Food
Our server was super nice! Thats the only reason we didnt leave! The fish and chips was 99% batter and soggy, the Caesar salad was just meh and my kids didnt like the chicken strip and fries cause they also were soggy. Biggest waste of 100$. Would never waste my money again!
We were there for supper on Sat, Feb. 10. This was our third time going here. The first time, the steak was cooked perfectly. The second time, it was mostly raw (veggies were mushy and inedible, barely ate any of the steak), and the third time, it was completely overcooked (no pink at all, charred black in places). All four of us asked for our steaks to be cooked medium and they were beyond well done. None of us wanted to complain because, with the exception of one, we all work in the customer service industry and we understand what its like to deal with difficult customers. Our waitress was friendly and deserved her tip. We rarely go out to eat because of how expensive it is, and the inconsistency of the food ruined the experience for us so unfortunately we wont be back.
We liked our visit. Dishes were good and tasty.
Great Location awesome prices and Excellent Service!!!
Still one of the best places to grab breakfast in Halifax. Friendly, good prices and great portion sizes
Great food, great people!
Traditional Diner with a modern twist. Reliably high quality - my recommendation for lunch in the city!
Nice place for seafood!
