A distinct new dining experience led by celebrated Chef Anthony Walsh, Drift features modern, elevated takes on classic Atlantic Canadian dishes and traditions. Located on the main level of the newly built Muir Hotel, our salon, bar and promenade offer a simple, modern and stylish setting in which to dine, drink, linger and relax without interruption.
It was our first time dining at Drift, but certainly will not be our last. This restaurant hit all the right notes. We started our evening with Lobster Hush Puppies. For mains, I had the Atlantic Salmon and I highly recommend it. My partner had the Pork Belly and Scallops, and we paired our meals with New Zealand’s Loveblock wine, which complimented beautifully. And for dessert, we took our waiter, Nathan, recommendation of the Mille Feuille. If you like apple desserts, this one’s for you. It was light, and not too sweet or heavy.
Honestly, best meal I've had in Halifax. Each course was incredible, the service was fantastic, and the ambiance was wonderful. Only critique was the Foie Gras was actually pretty awful. Tasted exclusively of oil and gristle. Everything else we had was beyond exceptional. Highly recommend. Amazing
Went in for a nice dinner when we were visiting Halifax and we were not disappointed. From the prompt, professional and friendly service to an upscale but laidback atmosphere and a seafood tower that offers a little bit of everything (lobster, shrimp, crab, tuna , oysters, scallops, mussels) I highly recommend a visit to drift.
Can I do a 6th star for service? Brian was stellar but everyone who delivered a course made me feel like the most important person in the restaurant. The food was spectacular. I came for the special Thanksgiving meal (as an American celebrating in October was different and special). Brian selected wine pairings, mostly local, for the courses and his choices were perfect. I added a shrimp and lobster cake to celebrate Nova Scotia. The symphony of flavors worked so well. And the meal ended with undoubtedly the best pumpkin pie I’ve ever had (salted caramel was just wow!!). I HIGHLY recommend this place!
Great spot for a late night dinner date. I find now restaurants try and squish as many tables together as possible and there's no space to have conversation without feeling like your neighbours are apart of it, but we really loved the layout and we felt like we had lots of privacy. The atmosphere was relatively chill and laid back, as it wasn't too busy; but still felt upscale with great service. All the dishes we had were amazing and great portion sizes, well worth the higher price in my opinion; with the steak frites being the highlight. The wine selection was great as well.
I had a good experience of dining at Drift in Halifax with my besties. The atmosphere was modern yet cozy, quite, perfect for a relaxing dinner. The service was top-notch, with our server who seems to be from French. We ordered beer and wine that were fine, similar with the other places. But the food were both visually stunning and good. As Asians, we can rate these Western style food 8/10. So, highly recommend for Asians come to try. I found the prices to be reasonable for the quality of food and service offered, with the meal costing around $80-$100 per person before tax and tip.
Pro: some dishes are amazing on a good day, for example, the abundant acres veggie salad/ Maryann’s bread with honey butter/ salmon / lamb. Staff are also friendly. In room dinning option also offers chicken noodle soup which is delicious. Cons: 1. Hygiene: most of the restaurant chairs are little dirty, food stains are visible. Also noticed a fly inside restaurant and the bar area. 2. Poor Restaurant management: you can tell the upper management are not really paying attention to properly maintain the place or to focus on training. A lot of the staff have to multi- task, (take takeout orders and serve tables, etc) and there is no clear workflow or procedure in place. 3. phone only gets picked up maybe in one out of 5 tries. So if you want to get takeout, you will have to visit the restaurant. 4. Inconsistent quality of food: they either have poor quality control procedure, or maybe they have different chefs? I stayed at Halifax for 10 days, on the good days, the food is amazing, perfectly cooked. On the bad days, lamb is undercooked, salad is super bland, salmon is not fresh, bread is dry. The inconsistency in food quality is just frustrating. For a restaurant located in downtown Halifax, at least keep the place clean and have some sort of food quality control procedure in place. Thanks,
Met up with a friend visiting Halifax on business and we decided to go here - both our first time - as he had read it was listed as one of the top 100 restaurants in Canada. Staff was amazing - checking in on us as we spent more time catching up than looking at the menu for the first hour, topping up water and bringing new drinks along with offering up suggestions while remembering my shellfish allergy. We ordered appetizers then mains and unfortunately did not leave room for dessert (will not make that mistake next time). The food was so delicious! We shared the molasses brown bread and I had the carrot and goat cheese app with the potato dumplings with Gruyere main dish. The dumplings were like little puffy clouds wrapped in cheese - decadent and perfect. The carrots & goat cheese came with cashews and was a flavourful dish that I would eat every single day if I could. My friend had the salmon tartare appetizer which was so artistically presented we almost didn't want to eat it... and we're so thankful we did (I tried some - amazing flavours!). He chose the seafood Hodge Podge which he gave two thumbs up to saying it was worth every penny. It was a perfectly warm evening on Drift's waterfront patio and we ended up staying until close. I will be back before the summer ends for another meal!
Warm staff , very luxury restaurant with great service and food .
Went for breakfast. A very calming atmosphere. Sit by the window for nice views of the courtyard and harbor. Great service. Blueberry pancakes are very good and you can order just 1. The eggs were cooked perfectly. Would go back.
Can t say I ve ever been blown away here. Nothing inherently wrong with anything I ve had either.
We got the sea food tower was absolutely fantastic, our server was kind and helpful. Wheelchair accessibility: Can easily access this place with a wheel chair!
Drift has nice interior and worm atmosphere, The service is always great. Honestly the food is ok and their menu doesn t change much. I would definitely recommend trying their food.
Went for brunch with an infant. Was given a great corner table where she could lie on a soft sofa type corner chair. Best scrambled eggs, unique but delicious hash brown, jam was very nice!! Lived this place! Will be back! Thank you!
Great place for meal/lunch
Unsure of which restaurant to go to on the waterfront, I went in person to see ambiance and staff. Right away, I was impressed by Drift and the booking service I received from Ian. I was late to my reservation due to traffic, and my table was politely held by Andrea, who took my call. Finally, my overall dinner experience from the food and drinks to my server Daniel was impeccable. Well worth the money spent and I will be coming again to enjoy such a warm and friendly place. Highly recommend.
The service here is outstanding and the food is amazing. We ve been a few times now and on each occasion everything has been perfect. It s such a lovely atmosphere too and a great place for brunch.
Good atmosphere but lacking in food quality. Seafood hodgepodge was disappointing for Nova Scotian standards (fish was cold!). Also came here for Brunch and again nothing special unfortunately.
We were first attended by Lexi. We are Vegetarian and she immediately brought vegetarian menu with smile. We were served by Brian. He was very polite ensured that delivery was fast and after every order he came back to know whether food we liked and also to ensure that we dont have to wait more for anything else. Looking to the presentation and Quality of the food, I can definitely say that Management and Chef of the restaurant are highly professional and customer oriented. We love to come back and will definitely recommend the restaurant.
We had a lovely breakfast. Nice table bit for some reason we were caught between waiter/waitress. One lady got us a coffee & 2 waters took our order but said she would not be serving us. My over easy eggs came out scrambled. No big deal. Pancakes were very good. No one checked if we were OK, no offer of more coffee. We said something when lady picked up our dishes. Bill was adjusted on coffee. At the end of the day watched coffee pot go by a good half dozen times. Still a good breakfast.
Breakfast services are great. Oysters are way tiny compared to other restaurants near by. I dont recommend ordering oysters from this restaurant.
I have mixed feelings about my experience at DRIFT. My primary complaints would be surrounding the food. The menu is full of items unique to Nova Scotia or the Maritimes, which I loved. However, I had never heard of many of these things, so I turned to Google to tell me what they were. I was fine with this, except... The results I got on Google drove me to order the Jiggs Dinner. It sounded like exactly what I was craving that night. On Google, this is a platter of beef, potatoes, and vegetables - basically a meat and potatoes meal. What I ended up receiving was a stew. This is not at all what I had in mind, and was not what I was craving at all. The stew tasted okay, although in terms of flavour it was mostly very salty. My father ordered the Roast Chicken and Rappie Pie, and he was also a bit confused. He thought the full meal would be a meat pie with some vegetables on the side. Instead, he got a small pie, with a large portion of chicken beside the pie. Overall I think the menu should be much more clear and descriptive about what youre receiving, particularly if its a reinvention of pre-existing dishes. The dessert menu was very limited, so sadly we did not try dessert, as my father has some dietary restrictions. The service was very friendly, both the hostess and our server were warm and happy to chat with us. The atmosphere was also comfortable. I just left feeling disappointed by the food.
Delicious dinner at Drift. It was our first time there and it exceeded our expectations. The restaurants interior features a marble fireplaces and harbor views and creates a warm ambiance. The salad starter was fresh and tasty. The roast chicken was excellent and the rappie pie complemented with a bit of regional style. Service was excellent, with friendly knowledgeable staff enhancing the overall experience. Drift delivers on its promise of elevated Atlantic Canadian cuisine. Well be back!
Amazing food and perfect atmosphere
Very excited about the attentive service and great wine recommendation. Unfortunately, my partner and I were underwhelmed with the food. Not sure if it was the night or our choice in the menu. The appetizer was incredible but the food that followed was not up to par. The hodge podge came out cold like it had been sitting out for a while. Great atmosphere, poor overall food experience.
Great experience! Surprised my wife with a date night here for our anniversary. Our server Lexy was amazing, and she gave us a special complimentary appetizer to start. The cocktails were very good and worth the money. I would recommend the Drift & Stormy. Everything was perfect from the service to the atmosphere. The food presentation and taste was spot on. I will be back!
the staff were professional and helpful. the wait time was way less than i expected. the options were limited though.
The cliche I never leave reviews applies here but I truly loved the breakfast here. The hostess was lovely, our server was great for a busy Stat Monday breakfast. The food was very delicious and cheap. Please be advised Im a BC resident so the prices felt extremely cheap for quality. It is 18$ for a breakfast sandwich at a crappy cafe in my town so this was wonderful.
Went for breakfast and it was delicious. Staff was patient and attentive and the Full Breakfast was terrific!
Had the seafood with haddock cheeks which were lovely but 6 mussel shells only 4 mussels, 1 small scallop, tiny shrimps and raw vegetables, steak and frites, tough bit of steak. One very loud female ( possibly drunk) who could be heard on the other side of the bay, not the best. Pleasant server who even apologized for the loud female.
The Hostess Hillary was amazing. Made the experience so pleasant.
Aug 2024 we had four dinners at the drift. The food is fantastic. All the servers were great but one in particular Mya (not sure of spelling) was most incredible. Mya was very professional, polite, personable explaining all the details of the meal, always ensuring water at the table was poured and drinks were promptly provided. Her level of service elevated the restaurant. The atmosphere is great however the seating cushions (which are very comfortable) we re often stained. Would recommend and would love to go back to finish working our way through the menu! Thanks for a great experience.
Joey was incredible! Food was amazing but the service as exceptional! Food
The food and customer service was amazing, but the volume inside the restaurant was loud making it hard to hear the person I was dining with. This did take away from the overall experience for me.
Over priced food.. well under serviced. I wasn t exactly acknowledged after being seated. Waited half an hour then had to ask to order. Severely overpriced and under serviced. Food was good however. Overall experience was below average. Would not recommend.. Don t waste your time or money!! Kid-friendliness: Served by three different people. All seemed semi friendly but unorganized as to who was serving me. Would not recommend
Amazing cocktails, food and service. We had the Pork Belly & Digby Scallop dish and it was out of this world. Nathan did a fantastic job with our table. We will definitely recommend Drift to friends and family. Thank you from Ottawa!
Food, service and atmosphere were all Carson our server. Mijai was excellent. Highly recommend!
The pork belly was amazing! The cocktails were very well done. We would go back! Service was great!
The new classic! This is a Halifax must do. Drift was phenomenal from start to finish. Not only is the food delicious, its beautifully and creatively presented. I would highly recommend the hodgepodge. Wheelchair accessibility: Entrance and washrooms were accessible.
Lovely restaurant right on the harborfront. We will absolutely return. Every course was phenomenal and the atmosphere inside is so beautiful and elegant. Maya our server was amazing. Offered some useful tips about the area and was incredible at helping us choose our meals for the night.
I used to love Drift Restaurant. Back in 2022, I stayed at the hotel for a week and ate nearly every meal there. The food was great, and I even brought my business partners along to enjoy it with me. But sadly, things have really gone downhill. This salmon dish in the picture? It looked good presentation, but it tasted awful like it had been sitting in freezer forever or missing any touch of spices. And this isn t the first time I ve been disappointed lately. In 2023 and 2024, I kept going back, hoping it would get better, but it didn t. Out of my last six meals, I could barely finish half of them, and tonight, I couldn t eat more than a few bites. I even had to send back my Caesar salad it was bland, had no cheese, and just tasted bad. I forgot to take a picture. But it was returned after a bite or two. We also ordered a steak and it was okay. The pasta was fine. Nothing special about these dishes but were eatable. THANK YOU FOR REMOVING THE SALMON COST FROM THE BILL. I ADD a 20% TIP AS TOKEN OF MY LOVE TO DRIFT. I really wanted Drift to be as good as it used to be, but after tonight, I m done. I m sad to say this will be my last meal here. My tips to Drift management: It might be worth revisiting the quality control processes, especially for ingredients like fish that can easily make or break a dish. Freshness is key, and it s something regular diners like myself notice immediately. Additionally, revisiting the recipes and ensuring the flavors are consistent with what made Drift so great in 2022 could help bring back loyal customers. A little attention to these details could make a big difference in turning things around. Your menu is limited so make it perfect.
The Halibut pie is a must try! Everything was amazing, nice view of the square and well decorated. Friendly staff also.
Drift is a beautiful restaurant. Our server was professional and knowledgeable. My friends scallop and pork belly dish was very good but the Atlantic salmon with sea lettuces (seaweed) and roe tasted like I was eating the bottom of the ocean. Order only if youre a big seaweed fan!
We got up to leave after not even receiving drinks or ordering after one hour and 15 mins. It was, at that time 9:15pm and we were starving. We were intercepted by the manager then said they would cover our meals if we stayed. So we decided to try. The food was mediocre. Certainly not worth what is listed on the menu. One of the dishes we ordered was not what was listed at all - lobster and shrimp cake was served as a fishcake and was likely with haddock- no lobster or shrimp. Our cocktails we got after 1.5 hours were great, but by that time were were very tired. Our server was lovely and apologetic. There are obviously many more issues happening at this restaurant than a problem with service. They seemed unprepared for many problems arising and there were other tables with issues as well. The bathrooms were very dirty and stinky- it was pretty gross. I would not go here again.
We waited for 3 hours. 3 HOURS AND NO FOOD. And they still forgot our food even though we payed. Nothing is fresh.
This place is always outstanding when I visit Halifax! Fresh quality ingredients and the staff are always welcoming :) I love the harbour front view and always enjoy it here!
Amazing experience, excellent attentive service. The seafood tower was outstanding. Knowledgeable and attentive restaurant manager that not only knew the wines but was willing to spend time talking with us. Our server Josiee was delightful and even gave us the secret hideouts that serve the famous Halifax Donairs!
Interesting menu. Very busy. 5 star service. Rappie pie was extremely salty; not edible. Chicken was also salty. Pasta with cod and scallops was excellent!
Enjoyed an excellent brunch at Drift on the weekend. Great food and service. Gluten free options were easy including toast! Their waterfront patio is lovely on a warm summer day. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free
A very good restaurant and recommended. The service is unique and Maja contributed to it. Professional service turns your visit into an experience. The cuisine is commendable and whether its meat or vegetarian, its worth a visit. Absolutely recommended
I took my partner to Drift for her birthday dinner, and we had a fantastic meal. I ordered the Pork Belly & Scallops, while she had the Potato Dumpling Gratin, and we both found the dishes to be excellent. For dessert, we shared the Wild Blueberry Buckle and enjoyed cappuccinos alongside it. We were thoroughly impressed with all the food and drinks and couldnt stop raving about them. The only downside was the price, which came to about $150 CAD including tip, a bit steep for our budget.
Drift is a beautiful restaurant, housed in downtown Halifax. Its unfortunate the food did not meet the feel. Although the review represents dishes that arent on the current menu, there were some major misses in the meal. For instances, there was a fluid gel on the iced digby scallop dish that was pure vinegar, and so incredibly harsh, all this time later, I still remember how pungent it was. While the rest of the dishes were just....fine ...it wasnt near the price we paid. Skip this restaurant in favour of Highwayman if you only have one of two nights in Halifax.
Great atmosphere, service, and food. I recommend The Hipster sandwich and the blueberry pancakes. Vegetarian options: For brunch, there is just one vegan option - a salad. There is a sandwich called The Hipster, though, that can be made vegan by substituting egg for something else. This is what the server recommended and it was delicious! I really appreciated her recommendation and knowledge of the menu.
The food was amazing. After the prompt arrival of our appetizers, we had a prolonged wait for our main courses (the scallops, and their take on Hodge Podge(. The server was very apologetic (busy night in the event space above for SailGP), and ultimately comped us part of our bill. Aside the wait, and excellent experience with delicious food and attentive service.
We visited Drift Restaurant for an early lunch, hoping to enjoy a pleasant dining experience. While the food was satisfactory and the interiors nicely decorated, our overall experience was marred by the poor service. The food itself was decent. The dishes were fairly prepared, and the flavors met our expectations, though nothing particularly stood out as exceptional. The restaurants interior design is a highlight, offering a stylish and comfortable ambiance that we appreciated. Unfortunately, the service was a significant letdown. The servers seemed indifferent at best and outright rude at worst. Whether they were having a bad day or this is their usual demeanor, it s hard to say. What was clear, however, is that their attitude felt dismissive and arrogant, which made for a very unpleasant dining experience. Its a shame that such a lovely setting and decent food were overshadowed by the negative interactions with the staff. We left feeling quite unhappy and disappointed. We hope that the management addresses these issues to improve the overall experience for future patrons.
Met with another long time immigration blogger who made Halifax their home for the first time in person at this incredible restaurant located at the bottom level of Muir. Given where it is located (nested at the corner of the building), you can t really see the ocean in the restaurant, but the nice vibe and decor can make up for that. The shore is also right outside the restaurant so one can enjoy the view before or after visiting the restaurant. They do not serve seafood chowder here so my sever recommended the hodgepodge as an alternative. The hodgepodge is filled with many different type of seafood served with an interesting piece of bread. I especially enjoyed the fiddleheads which I have been told is a NS specialty. We also asked our server for recommendations for a photogenic cocktail for my Google reviews and she recommended the two you see in the picture I can t remember the name but you can just show them the picture if you wanted the same! The cocktails are on the sweeter side if that appeals to you. We visited on a Friday and the place does get loud and busy towards the end of our dining experience.
Simply the best food service and atmosphere in Halifax! World class I want to add: I checked the other « bad » reviews and most of them are about the price LOL if you can t afford the delicious food, service vibe ambiance decor don t go! Go somewhere cheaper.. stop complaining you knew the price in advance/ don t cry about it after the fact!! Nobody forced you to order anything.. be fair. The food is delicious and very consistent. The service is perfect too! And it s beautiful, great vibe. Gotta be honest.
Having dined at Drift over 20 times, I can confidently say it s easily one of the top five dining spots in Halifax, arguably top three. Most of the gripes I see in the reviews are about the price. As someone who frequently enjoys the culinary scenes in spots like Paris, Berlin, London, NY, LA, Stockholm, Seoul, Oslo, Vienna, and Zurich, let me just say: Drift s prices are entirely justified. In fact, it s a steal compared to what you d pay in those cities for this level of craft. The food, the service, the vibe they re all on point, every single time. Drift is hands down one of my favorite haunts in the Halifax dining scene. Highly recommended for those who get it.
If you don t want to take risks come here as the food is been consistently excellent. Great service and the place is beautiful! Can t complain honestly. Bravo! Ps: I m from Paris and I ve eaten at some of the best restaurants, Michelins you name it! I know what s good! This is legit
The staff and service here is excellent. The ambiance is fantastic, the food is exceptional, and you leave with a smile on your face. They treat you right. Wonderful upscale bar/restaurant. Highly recommend.
Enjoyed the freshest mussels cooked to perfection and a selection of creative cocktails that perfectly complemented the meal. The service was impeccable, making the dining experience even more memorable. If youre looking for a true taste of Canada, this place is a must-visit when you travel to Halifax
We visited Drift for Father s Day. The food and drinks were outstanding. Especially the Caesar that my husband ordered. We brought our 12 month old. Drift is not the right atmosphere for a baby. We were moved tables once due to the high chair needed. When my baby got ahold of the menu, the server was non accommodating and unkind towards her. When they took our order, two items were missed and had to be requested again. After the second time, the pancake we ordered still did not get made and we were left without. The bill was also requested twice, I had packed up and had our baby in the stroller before it arrived. Our whole experience was tarnished by the service. For an expensive place to eat, I would expect better.
Came here close to their closing time and they accommodated, delicious meal and drinks, shoutout to the bartender/mixologist for creating such an incredible drink the forager tastes like Canadian nature, not to mention the story behind the drink?! Foraged herbs to make the forest syrup !! :) special thanks to our charming waiter who took great care of us and helped guide our decision on dinner and desert. Incredible staff and gorgeous + comforting atmosphere.
Great place with wonderful service. The staff were so nice about the phone I left behind to Ill always think about how relieved i was for thier hospitality.
Grabbed a coffee here for $2.45, handed server a $5, she asked if I wanted my change. I said, yes .Then proceeded to be rude the rest of the transaction. Sorry i didnt tip you 100% dear lol
Drift definitely has a relaxing atmosphere. Soft colors and beautiful decor. The ladies working are lovely. But I feel its a bit pricey. $32 for pancakes and a coffee.
Sadly the mussels were so bland! Late night service was meh .it s likely they were in a rush to close the kitchen. Thats our fault .
Absolutely deceiving! I would not recommend this place. First, tables of two are squeezed perpendicularly to the back of tables of four. You end up eating in people s back and having their hair on your table. The menu looks elevated but, in the end, is very deceiving. What is on the menu does not reflect what you get. Plats are dripping with fat and you leave the restaurant feeling unwell. We had the crabs cakes. 3 of the so called crab cake didn t have crab in it. It is basically a huge ball of dough without taste served on mayonnaise. If you are lucky, you might get a tiny chunk of crab the size of a 5cent. After that, we ordered the dumpling which in fact are potato gnocchis dripping in fat, butter and cheese seems like they are triying to block your arteries and kill you by making you do an hearth attack right in the middle of the restaurant. I told the waitress, that raviolis are on the menu and not gnocchis. The anwser I got is : dumpling and gnocchi are synonyms The drink I ordered was also missing an ingredient according to the waitress. We ended the night with a bill over 200$ and feeling like we ate a brick of butter seasoned by stranger s dandruff. Thank for that ! Better go to Bar kismet you won t be deceived if you are expecting elevated cuisine and wines.
Okay Halifax and anyone visiting . . . Drift is the real deal. Felt like we were being pampered from the moment we walked in the door. Was given a free sample appie while waiting for our wine. The appetizer, Crispy Tourtiere Roll, was incredible. The layers of flavours evolved in your mouth as you ate it. A must have when you go. Our main, pork belly and scallops was also out of this world. The smoked carrots/squash added a whole new level to perfectly caramelized scallops that tasted as if the just came out of the ocean. Our waiter was amazing and so attentive. Cant say enough about how great this place is.
I particularly like the sweet potato sauce in pork belly&scallops. It has a very dense texture and rich layers. The juice of scallop is very full, retaining the taste of seafood to the greatest extent, and it is very smooth in the mouth. My friend ordered the steak medium rare, but it was slightly undercooked. Price per person $50+
Easy 5/5 for this place. It is on the pricier side, but it offers great food, a relaxing ambiance, and excellent service. Perfect for anything from a romantic date night to important business meetings.
Fantastic food with presentation to match
The pancakes were amazing!!
Came here with a group for my friend s birthday celebrations. The restaurant is very beautiful with the low light and cozy vibe. Our group got drinks and then appetizers to share. The cocktails were very delicious and the food was tasty. Our waitress was very nice and welcoming. She checked on us often and made sure we were happy. It is on the pricier side, so I wouldn t go all the time; but would definitely go there again for a date night.
Amazing place to get dinner the servers were the nicest i ever had and made me feel important. The food here was something familiar but elevated and eccentric.
This was my first time at Drift, and it was incredible. The flavor profiles, the presentation & the mood of the restaurant were all amazing. Such an incredible restaurant and I can t wait to return.
Its a restaurant worth trying on the waterfront. The setting is incredibly chic, cozy, and beautiful. The service is top-notch, with attentive servers. The food is decent; some dishes are excellent while others offer something unique.
Come for brunch food tastes great Highly recommend the lobster and shrimp toast Vegetarian options: There are vegetarian options Dietary restrictions: Will ask about dietary restrictions Parking: Hotel parking lot
definitely saw a lil critter crawling about as one expects for hali but otherwise a lovely space. bartenders slinging some fun cocktails and mocktails
My husband took me here the second time as we had a great impression with our first visit. However, we are so disappointed with this time. First of all, we found a hair in our soup bowl. Moreover, we ordered steak and the presentation was below average which was not what we would expect from a fine dining restaurant. The taste was not so good either. The steak comes with fries and salad which have no dressing. This is fast food restaurant level. Save the money and go somewhere else. We aren t coming back.
Beautiful restaurant and great service. Loved seeing the east coast themed menu. We really enjoyed our experience, however it was quite expensive. We both thought our meals were decent, but had higher expectations considering the price.
The restaurant itself is nice, the bathrooms are nice, the service was good, but the food falls short. The $24 beef tartare was the most boring and one-note beef tartare Ive ever eaten, and it also happens to be one of the most expensive in Halifax. The soup and pie with the Christmas dinner special were both quite good, but the Christmas dinner itself was average or slightly better than average in taste. The turkey dinner was a laughably small portion. There were 1.5 Brussels sprouts on the plate, about half a teaspoon of cranberry sauce, a fairly small portion of turkey, and a small amount of stuffing and potatoes, plus a few roasted root vegetables. The turkey wasnt super moist and seemed like it was either a little overdone or had been sitting around a while, and the stuffing was about on par with boxed stuffing in terms of flavour and texture. The mashed potato was very smooth and nice and the gravy had great flavour. For $114 including tax and tip, Id expect either a more reasonable portion size for the turkey, or everything on the plate to be incredible and perfect, and Id also expect a little more wow factor from the beef tartare for the $24 price tag on it.
Fantastic Christmas dinner.
3.9 stars Mediocre Food with Top Notch Service We went as a large group and tried various items on the menu. The steak & frites, priced at $49, didnt live up to expectations. It was tough and lacked quality. The fries were a bit overcooked. The Chicken & Hodgepodge dish was average, nothing special. Unfortunately, the seafood was a complete letdown. We are seafood lovers so we judged this the most. The mussels and oysters were bland, especially considering Nova Scotias reputation for seafood. On a positive note, the drinks were enjoyable, and the bread with honey butter was delicious. The ambiance and service was beautiful and made the experience a lot more enjoyable. For the price, I feel like the quality wasn t there.
First time to Drift and it was amazing. Exceeded our expectations. The steak was beyond good, as were the brown rolls!
This is our familys favorite breakfast venue. The staff are attentive and friendly. I cant say enough good things about them. The breakfast menu is concise. They dont usually have specials for breakfast but do have them for the brunch menu. The items on the breakfast menu are invariably well done. My go-to is the mushroom omelette, but the benny, drifter, straightforward are all good. The only item I have not had is the pancakes. My Dad made the best pancakes back in the day, so my standards are impossible to meet. The venue is large with indoor and seasonal outdoor seating. They can accommodate large groups. Furnishings and decor reference the sea. The furniture has a mid century scandinavian esthetic. The curved wooden ceiling invokes the inside of a wooden ship and helps keep the sound down. The harbour front provides a great view. I would recommend reserving online.
Food was very disappointing. Not the quality we was expecting at all.
A good atmosphere and good food. I had the hodgepodge and cheddar apple pie. The hodgepodge was pretty good but I found the pie a little odd. I did get it for the novelty of the cheddar with apple pie but there was a weird Smokey flavour in parts of the pie that I did not really vibe with. For context this is a higher end restaurant than I usually go to and I was not super impressed with the increase of quality for amount of money.
I rarely write reviews on restaurants, but I had to in this case. We wanted to give Drift a fair shot as we had a gift card, but honestly this was the most overpriced meal I have ever had in Halifax and I have lived here for 20+ years. I had the Full Drifter, which is basically a full English breakfast (which was essentially one piece of bacon, one sausage, two eggs, a piece of black pudding, half a deviled tomato, a mouthful of roasted mushrooms, baked beans, some potatoes, and one piece of dry multigrain toast). My wife had pancakes and we each had a specialty coffee, and I had a freshly squeezed orange juice. Our bill after tax + 18% tip was in the $85-90 range. To give you some perspective, a full English breakfast at Gordon Ramsays restaurant at the Savoy in London costs less. I would love to know how Drift are able to explain how they can charge that much for breakfast. I gave 2 stars as the staff were quite nice.
One of my favourite restaurant in Halifax! always my food and drink there
Very different environment from what you usually see in Halifax. The food is good but overpriced. The service was the best part of the experience.
Atmosphere, location, service and cocktails were wonderful. We were all underwhelmed with our meals. We will try again in case it was just an off night.
What a great brunch experience at Drift. To say that this place is comfortable and cozy doesn t do it justice. The modern architecture and decor with soft lighting, fireplace and floor to ceiling views of the harbour make this a surreal experience on a winter morning. The plating a presentation of the food are excellent and the staff acquit themselves flawlessly. I will be back, for more great food and excellent atmosphere.
best service
Had brunch with my partner recently. Our food took ages to come out and was nothing to write home about, which is kind of disappointing given the price point. But it was the poor service that just ruined the experience for us. It seemed like the management/owners spent all the money on the interior and totally ignored staff recruitment and training. We had the misfortune of having been assigned probably the coldest (almost rude) server weve ever had to deal with. She didnt seem to know even the mere basics of service and on top of that clearly had an attitude problem. Extremely disappointing! We went to Le Bistro by Liz the next weekend and realized how terrible our experience at Drift truly was. If the management cant train their staff well, perhaps they should take them to Le Bistro for a meal to learn a thing or two.
Great staff, nice atmosphere and good service. Half the menu items that we ordered were not available, hence 3 stars. Staff very apologetic. We will return to try again.
Made a reservation hoping to try the Dine Around Halifax menu. 3 food items (1 appetizer, 1 main, and the dessert) were unavailable, and we were not notified until we decided on what we wanted. The food took at least 30 minutes to come, it was underwhelming and underseasoned. The service was slow to say the least, my friends and I waited at least 20 minutes before a server looked at us for the bill. Servers rarely checked on us, there were not that many tables half way through our lunch. I expected better from an O&B restaurant. Sorely dissapointed. Only thing that saved it was the server offering a regular menu dessert, as they ran out of the Dine Around dessert.
We loved our experience at Drift. We tried the recommendations from our amazing server Sydney and all were top notch. We loved the ambience and felt right at home. We will be back!
It was a nice brunch sitting outside in a warm summer day. Food and drinks are good, but brunchs price is slight expensive with the quality presented. I love my fiddler sour drink tho. My friend reserved a table on their website and we want an outdoor table, but we kept being told by the host that outdoor tables are for reservations, even tho there isnt an option to choose on their website. Host wouldnt let us change our table but we did get one at the end with the help of our very considerate waiter :) at the end it was an OK experience, definitely had better food somewhere else with the same range of price. 4 stars for the great service from the waiter who saved our day. Vegetarian options: Have many salad options Parking: Underground garage or nearby parking lot Wheelchair accessibility: Accessible to indoor and outdoor tables
Great afternoon at the drift. Superb quality and service.
Drift Restaurant gave me that warm euphoric feeling I was craving in Halifax
Enjoy the big drift burger during burger week. It was incredible love the atmosphere, and the service was great.
Excellent service .. delicious food!
Breakfast here was delicious
Fantastic experience at Drift this eve with a group of 7. Service was top notch- professional and knowledgeable, and willing to make recommendations which we always appreciate. The food has done a 180 from our first experience here a year or so ago. Understandable that there were some growing pains .. We found all dishes to be flavourful, well presented, good portions, and interesting. Wine selections were varied and the ones we had, along with some cocktails and mocktails, were excellent. The atmosphere was beyond compare in Halifax, with the harbour views and location within the queens Marque square. I think Drift has achieved its original goals now of offering a 5 star dining experience! We will definitely be back. Kid-friendliness: Kids menu! And our kids actually enjoyable items from the main menu too.
Quality spot in Halifax, highly recommend and will return in the future. The ambience, service staff and menu was exceptional. 5 stars. Halibut, Filet Mignon, Salmon Tartare and Tuna Crudo rounded up a dinner for two.
Our experience at drift was delightful! Our server, Nathan was so professional and accommodating with my gluten allergy! I will definitely be back again for the lamb and the flourless chocolate cake! Dietary restrictions: They had great and plentiful gluten-free options :)
Amazing service, delish food
The breakfast tasted bland and it was way too expensive. There was nothing on the plate I could not have cooked myself. I wont be going back. Prime location. Disappointed with this one.
Swanky, Expensive, Delicious. What more do you need?
Super tasty very creative meals on the menu Recommended to seafood lovers
They are part of the best 30 by On Route, i don t belived they deserve to be inside this list. Great meal and great experience overall, but their is better option in Halifax
Had a wonderful anniversary supper at Drift on June 10th. The place was packed! Great atmosphere and our server was terrific ( Nathan). Our drinks before dinner and our wine were excellent. Loved the Lamb I had for my main but the star of the night was the honey butter and brown bread appetizer. SOOOO GOOD!
I haven t enjoyed yet the service I contacted the restaurant to find out more about its cuisine beforehand going ..Not an answer yet In the perennial Halifax s restaurants changing scenario I would appreciate a response
Great food, amazing service. Amazing atmosphere. The only negative thing I have to say is when I can buy a bottle of wine in the liquor store for $20 and you charge me $71 for the same bottle. Jesse James used a gun when he rob me. He was honest
I go here every time I am in Halifax. All but one experience was bad as they were not willing to accommodate dietary restrictions on their menu. However, this is when the restaurant had opened recently, and I have had no complaints since. Food is always delicious, service is excellent and the interior design and atmosphere are wonderful.
Nice spot, good atmosphere, service ok. Food, meh, top 100? Not even close.
Very much enjoyed my visit here! Staff were friendly, attentive, and professional. They had an extensive drink menu. Everyone at my table enjoyed their food. Chicken was great and filling. The brown bread to start was divine. Fantastic atmosphere, enjoyed people watching on the boardwalk. Looking forward to dining here again! :)
Excellent decor, great service, awesome atmosphere and almost perfect food. Booked a dinner for my partners birthday and it was very pleasant. We werent rushed, all the staff were very personable, and the appetizers were all amazing. My only critique is that the main I got (Haddock) was okay at best, but Im not a big fish eater anyway. Appetizers were amazing (I recommend the oysters and fish cake) definitely get the bread (surprise of the evening). Id definitely go again especially because the pricing was reasonable. 8/10
Came here for my moms birthday breakfast and the staff was incredibly kind, attentive, and personable. The food was delicious and I found the menu to feature some more unique breakfast items along with the standard affair, which I really appreciated to accommodate less adventurous eaters but also try something new/fun myself.
Great atmosphere but really loved the service. We had Anya as our server and she was fantastic. Friendly and attentive. Would recommend for sophisticated but relaxing dinner.
Great staff, good cocktails, overall food was decent but do yourself a favour and avoid the cheese plate at all costs. For 30$ it was an embarrassment, seaweed was gross, there was blue cheese which deserves a disclaimer in my opinion. The cheese plate was so offensive I doubt we will be back, unless we receive some type of apology.
Great service and food alike. The vibe was great and was all around amazing. I would highly recommend it. Wheelchair accessibility: Very wheelchair accessible and no chairs.
Beautiful place at Queens Marque with superior food and excellent service. Salmon tartar was heavenly. Scallops and pork belly also delicious. Lucky enough to dine outside on a warm summer evening. Perfect way to enjoy Halifax.
Food was absolutely delicious, staff was so nice. A beautiful view of the ocean. An amazing atmosphere and great service. My mom is in love with the uniforms and we will definitely return when we visit Halifax again.
This place is impeccable.
We went for Brunch, coffee mugs were filthy and had not been cleaned properly. The team didnt seem that fussed and brushed it off, but its basic food hygiene. We love this place but it has fallen far, fast.
Always the same. Kitchen backed up and implication that our fault as customers not the kitchens. Food is good but Drift really drags down the Muir property!:-(
Friendly, spacious, great oysters and (Asian) fusion food.
While staying at The Muir, it is customary to try out the restaurant downstairs right? It is located right by lobby / fireplace area. We decided to try breakfast. And the food was exquisite and delicious. One negative during my visit was that the service as painfully slow. There was an obvious staff shortage which was quite visible and evident during the breakfast service. Otherwise, the staff tried their best. And the food, coffee and teas were exceptional. Everyone enjoyed the food. You can even sit outside on the beautiful patio and enjoy the stunning harbour / water / sunset views. The dishes that were ordered were THE FULL DRIFTER, MUSHROOM & CHEDDAR OMELETTE, STRAIGHTFORWARD BREAKFAST and THE HIPSTER. Happy Eats everyone :-)
I was very excited to dine at Drift as I had heard good things about this place. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with our visit. The service was great, but the food is mostly mediocre at a premium price point. We ordered the brown bread with honey butter, mussels and dulse, seared foie gras, beef tartare, pork belly and scallops, and the cheese plate for dessert. The seared foie was ok but not worth it as it was such a small portion. The majority of the mussels in the mussels and dulse were also kinda small. The beef tartare tasted ok. The pickled beets masked a lot of the beef flavour would skip it. It was not worth the price. The pork belly and scallops were delicious. However, the cheese plate was unpalatable. The hard cheese was very dry and sucked the moisture right out of our mouths lol. Not even the honey helped with how dry it was. The blue cheese was putrid, gag worthy. I ve had some decent blue cheese before and this was not it. The pickled veggies tasted old. The cheese plate was $29, and I expected it to be amazing but frankly, I think it needs to be deeply revised or removed from the menu entirely. Sorry but you should be ashamed for serving that lol. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this place to any of my friends or family. Try the Ostrich Club instead. In addition, y all need AC. We sat outside because the summer heat was cooler than the temperature indoors smh
Stayed at Muir for a few days, had drinks and dinner at the drift restaurant. Our Bar Tender Ansel was Great and the Steak Frits were excellent. Thanks, Gary & Teresa from Maryland, USA
I really loved this restaurant. Everything is pleasant there, the view, the service, the drinks and the meal. It s a wow! Parking: Take public parking, the restaurant is next door
Creative presentations paired with great service makes for a wonderful experience.
Food was phenomenal. Service was impeccable. We were delighted to find this place after a disastrous experience at another restaurant. It s always reassuring when you see the front of the house manager constantly walking around, helping service, checking in with guests, and being a presence. We ordered pork belly with scallops and their sirloin steak. Absolutely divine! The dining experience was A+.
I had the pleasure of visiting Orbit in downtown last night and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warmth and courtesy by the staff. The outdoor patio provided the perfect ambiance for a delightful evening. I settled into a comfortable spot and was immediately impressed by the attentive service. The waitstaff was not only knowledgeable about the menu but also made valuable recommendations, enhancing the overall dining experience. I started with the salmon tartare, and it was an absolute treat for the senses. The dish was expertly prepared, showcasing the freshness of the ingredients and a harmonious blend of flavors. Each bite was a revelation, and I savored every moment. For drinks, I indulged in the JW Blue Label and a fine tequila. The drinks were meticulously crafted, a true testament to the mixology expertise at Orbit. The JW Blue Label exuded elegance and complexity, while the tequila provided a smooth and nuanced taste that lingered on the palate. The attention to detail extended beyond the culinary offerings. The atmosphere was vibrant, and the patio offered a pleasant escape from the city s hustle and bustle. The service was prompt yet unobtrusive, allowing me to enjoy my evening at my own pace. In conclusion, Orbit is a gem in downtown a place where culinary artistry meets impeccable service. If you re looking for an exceptional dining experience that tantalizes your taste buds and elevates your spirits, I highly recommend paying a visit. My sincere gratitude to the entire team for making my evening truly memorable. I ll also be sharing some photos that capture the essence of the evening. Thank you, Orbit, for an unforgettable night.
Had a quick breakfast at the hotel. It was simple but good. Fresh squeezed orange juice was delicious.
What an exquisite meal, stellar staff and a gorgeous view! STEAK FRITES, ROAST CHICKEN & RAPPIE PIE, and NOVA SCOTIA SEAFOOD HODGE PODGE. To drink, a pint of NORTH BREWING, PRIORITY, PALE ALE and an ounce of Glen Breton with a water dropper. Brendan was a great server and the other staff were friendly, well trained, and highly efficient. Will definitely be back! Kudos, Wayne! Youre running a tight ship!
Excellent place with excellent food
The staff are amazing! So welcoming and comforting. The atmosphere was incredible. I stayed at the MUIR and had two occasions to dine. Unfortunately I got food poisoning the first time which took away 2 days of my vacation. I opted to try again and had their ceasar salad with chicken. The chicken was delicious, however, the salad had little to no flavor and I ended up sending it back. Surprisingly for a high end restaurant, I wasnt offered compensation. I wont try a third time. Dietary restrictions: They always asked about restrictions
Ive eaten here at least four times since it first opened, always with the same friend. Our first time, when the place was new, was on a sunny winter morning after a big snow storm overnight. Wed taken the day off work and came for breakfast around 8am and were the only customers. The roads had been not fully plowed yet, so most of downtown was actually still quite dead. So it was a relaxing experience, having the full place to ourselves. The atmosphere here is somewhat elegant, well lit, lots of comfortable seating (my favorite are the cushioned booths), with a simplistic nautical vibe. I ordered the Hipster ($23 two poached eggs, avocado, tomato, wiltrd greens, tahini, smashed chickpeas on multigrain) and it was my favorite meal out of all of my visits. Very filling and satisfying. My friend had the Big Drifter and said it was delicious but he wished it came with two slices of toast vs one, and that it had regular bacon vs peameal, as a personal preference, and Id agree. For the $30 price, that is double what you pay on average for a meal like this, and he wasnt full afterwards. Our 2nd visit was another breakfast in 2021. The place had a few other customers but was quiet still. I had the breakfast sandwich and it came with no side, which was disappointing. Luckily, I fill up easily, so it ended up being enough. Same Big Drifter for him. 3rd visit: a weekday lunch in 2021. I was curious to try the lobster BLT after seeing it on perhaps Instagram. It was good, with decent chunks of meat, but nothing overly exciting. I remember the toasted basic bread was painful on the roof of my mouth, a bit dry. Most recent visit: Sept 2023 for another try at the breakfast. This time I had the Cheese Grits & Eggs. It was flavorful and well made. It didnt look like a massive quantity, but I still fill up easily and so it was adequate. Worth $25? No. My friend remains consistent on his opinion of the same Big Drifter, that he ordered again. One may ask why he doesnt try other things on the menu, but hes a person of basic breakfast wants, nothing out of the ordinary. Still found it very good overall, but found the sausage seemed store-bought frozen. $83 after tip for the two of us on the way to work is the main issue here. Friendly staff, but I have noticed each time that there is no sense of urgency whatsoever to be greeted, when being not very busy. Id definitely come back though, but not often, due to the prices. We eat out a lot of fine dining dinners and have no problem paying more, but breakfast shouldnt be as expensive in my experience.
Really gorgeous ambiance! The whole design is flawless! The staff were super friendly and the food was delicious. Definitely on the pricier side with smaller portions, but a great treat!
Disappointing would be putting things mildly. You d think the new flagship hotel in Halifax would be able to muster some sort of sensationalism in their leading restaurant. Safe to say that is not the case. Ambience and architecture are pleasant. But anything distinguishable ends there. Wouldn t go so far as to say the food is was abysmal, but it wouldn t be a stretch. Service was slow, most of the starters and entrees were lackluster and the wine list would be acceptable if it was the selection at a gas station outside of Tikrit. Steak still had tin foil underneath it, pappardelle was well constructed but massively under seasoned, the butter for the bread was still frozen and god knows who decided that the cement bricks they serve with the steak tartare was adequate to serve to anything other than barn animals. Based on what I experienced this evening for the price point they charge for their sadist approach to dining, they have lots of work to do if they hope to survive the onslaught of reviews that will mirror this one should they negate to pull their socks up.
The foie gras was excellent
Very disappointed with their cuisine. The service was fine and atomosphere was okay, nothing really surprised on these and just average for this level of dining. BUT, I do highly recommend they need and should be more careful in the selection of the quality of food materials. The seafood soup was the most terrible one I ever had before. Mussels were not fresh that can be told from the fishy taste, and the soup base was really bad, neither smooth nor creamy. $20 for that little portion, not worth to try at all. I d prefer keep the small portion but with high quality food if you charge this expensive! The main dish- NORTHUMBERLAND LAMB was awful. Should take off the most fat content and really need to know how to prepare and process food before cook. By and large, a very premium for food tasting and pricing. This is definitely not the quality and taste of food should have in this kind of fine dining place!
Our waiter was incredible he was attentive towards our son and the service was quick and friendly. The restaurant doesn t seem kid-friendly when you come in but they put us into a quieter corner so we didn t disturb other diners and even brought a kids menu, colouring pencils, and high chair. We loved the fish cakes and beet lentil salad. My husband also said the old fashioned cocktail he ordered was really done well, and he s picky with old fashioneds. The only dish that disappointed us a bit was the brown bread- the bread itself was warm and perfect but the honey butter was hard, cold and didn t have much taste. I was most excited for this popular appetizer so it surprised me. One small complaint but everything else was perfect.
Great atmosphere, food was great. Thank you Clara for your excellent service!
The portion are so small . Its ridiculous
Just ok. Good service.
Amazing blueberry pancakes. Very good service. Fish and seafood hodgepodge was good. Breakfasts are generous. Suppers could be more generous: Being a part of a the Muir, very few customers would be upset if the dinners were a little more expensive. Being more generous with dinners would leave a great impression on tourists.
I was drawn in by the beautiful decor of this restaurant while walking by. Love the wooden panels on the ceiling gently curving into the bar. Really pleasing to look at. I would love to come by again to sit at the bar next time. Food and drinks are equally impressive to the decor. They put lots of effort into plating their dishes and it really helps with the enjoyment of the restaurant. Everything about this place screams attention to detail. The lamb was as good as it looked. I almost regret sharing this dish with my date. Tender, juicy, succulent. The char on the skin was perfect. Easy recommendation. Oysters were good too. On par with all the other restaurants I tried in the east coast. I appreciate the garnishes they provided. Both cocktails I tried were excellent. I recommend this place!
I had the prix fixed lunch offer. Great value for the money. They also have tasty cocktails!
My wife and I went for dinner on a Friday evening. It was a wonderful and memorable meal. The restaurant itself is decorated in a warm and inviting style. Comfortable and stylish. Located steps away from the waterfront boardwalk. The service was excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive but not intrusive. The drinks and food came quickly and were very delicious. Wonderful martinis. Delicious oysters. Remarkably tasty seafood entrees. Decadent desserts. The menus were small (something I prefer) but very well curated. A great evening that we wont soon forget.
A must, fantastic restaurant, simply sublime.
Great service and place to eat and be marry
Good food and cocktail
I came for late lunch after 2pm so atmosphere was completely quiet. Had the lunch prixe fix menu: clam chowder and chicken sandwich. Come hungry, I could barely eat half my sandwich after how filling the chowder was. Chowder was a touch salty. Chicken sandwich had a bright lemon aioli that balanced out the cheese and deep fried chicken. Great views and decor
The first thing you notice when walking into Drift is how beautifully the restaurant is illuminated with evening light through the outside glass walls onto the restaurants soft and muted wood grain which covers floor to ceiling. After that you settle into an evening of delicacies. A fabulous array of cocktails, appetizers and mains. The dessert menu was as enticing as well. Service was extraordinary as our server (Lexie) answered all our questions and recounted ingredients and techniques that inspired our taste buds and imagination. We had breakfast at Drift the following morning and had the same experience with an entirely different menu and staff. Be prepared - one visit is not enough. Vegetarian options: The kitchen team were agreeable to adding or providing alternatives and there were vegetarian options throughout the menu.
5 stars everything
Best in Halifax
Wonderful experience
Very accommodating to my wife s vegan diet. Fabulous night out, hard to believe there could be better place to eat in Nova Scotia. The Chef is to be commended, and the service is heads above anyplace we ve spent a date night. Definitely a must visit!
The cocktails and service were on point. Elise is magical
This is a pretty good brunch spot to help start your day. We got there pretty early (despite it being a Friday morning) to make sure we got a table as we had heard really good things about the restaurant. The patio is really nice and offers a great view of the water. We had the Breakfast Butty, the Fish Cakes as well as a slice of their coffee cake. Overall the food was really good. A couple small critiques would be that the Breakfast Butty had onion jam served on the side which seemed to clash with the goat cheese and tomato within the sandwich. A quick look on the menu and it appears theyve already revised the sandwich to cheddar and bacon. Also the coffee cake was a little dry. In terms of service, it was quite slow. It seemed like they were a little short staffed but all credit to the servers, they did what they could and were as attentive as possible while always being polite. Overall, the prices are reasonable and the food was quite good. While I hope their staffing improves, for the time being I wouldnt go here if youre in a hurry.
meh. extremely expensive for mediocre food. Location is neat, decor is nice, service was good. If the price of the food was cut in half then it would be somewhat reasonable, but even then the food was bland. Not worth the money.
Amazing food and ambiance, would strongly recommend.
My favorite restaurant in Halifax. I come here weekly and love the place. Service is excellent and food is local and taste great!
Street
Drift is a really cool restaurant located at the Muir hotel. We ate breakfast, and lunch their. Their burgers are awesome, as are the pastries (we had almond and chocolate). The bar is well stocked with a very nice selection, including local regional wines.
I ve bien staying at the hotel and loving the restaurant. From breakfast to lunch and dinner, food is delicious and inventive. Service is more than impeccable.
Had an amazing meal!! the Halibut was perfectly cooked and my server Nathan delivered outstanding service!!! Definitely will come back again when ever I am in Halifax,
Only thing better than the food is the service
A great location. The restaurant is stunning, well designed and will impress anyone. Went for drinks and appetizers. Our bartender Ansel was great. Made lovely cocktails and genuinely friendly. A must go to if you re in Halifax.
Wow! The Mrs. suggested Drift for our recent date night and I couldnt be more impressed. Our server, Nathan, was delightful, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the menu. He suggested the Northumberland Lamb and it was perfect. My wife also really enjoyed the Pimms cocktail. The food, service, and space were all top-notch; a great date spot. We both LOVED this place and will most certainly be back!
What an incredible meal! The food was SO good, nice portions and really an amazing gastronomic experience with excellent staff. Also, do not skip out on their cocktails. The restaurant is so beautiful as well, cannot wait for another night out at Drift!
The very chic restaurant, very well decorated, suggests that it is expensive. But the pleasant surprise because for 29 dollars per person you can choose between 2 starter suggestions and 2 main courses. The menu changes every week. Wonderful welcome, warm places, cocooning. Well done to all of you. Vegetarian options: Some dishes are offered à la carte for vegetarians
Went for dinner on a Friday evening. Service was prompt, attentive and friendly. Cocktails were delicious. We were recommended the brown bread as the appetizer which was pretty bland. Our mains were beautifully presented and protein was cooked perfectly however for the price we found them to be underwhelming and definitely lacked seasoning. Should do well with tourists but locals may know these flavors/fare well and expect more.
It was a bit of a Seinfeld episode getting the table...wed made a reservation (on the phone not on the brutal website...fyi: they have blocked space for the hotel guests that the website doesnt show) There were mountains of staff, two maître ds, and a pile of servers...I think we had 6 different people visit the table. This was an 18th anniversary meal, and I hope for intimacy so I hate when the next table is an arms length from you... it doesnt feel intimate, it feels like a crowded elevator. The lighting is poor and the menus are printed in the tiniest font...youll see plenty of people using their phones to illuminate the menus. The side plates are all designed by an Indigenous artist on the south shore, unique but with the low lighting conditions, I thought we were being seated at an unbussed spot. Ill post a photo of the plates. The food was fantastic, I had the steak and my wife the lamb....after having a bite of the lamb, I had lamb envy. Dessert was terrific as well....so in short the food was amazing, but the atmosphere and crammed quarters will keep me from going back. Parking: Underground parking was bright and clean albeit confusing
Food was under seasoned, even the cured halibut. The white turnips were old, and a bit gritty. Tuna crudo, lacked salt, the argousier was not a fit match with the charred jalapeno which also overpowered the flavour of the fish. The warm potatoes dish and, the cod and caviar ploye were not good. I have rarely sent back a plate, let alone two. Textures, flavours and again seasoning were not right. Now, however, our service was impeccable, our server (Julia) was lovely, informative and very attentive. It was also a bit surprising that if two plates got sent back that no manager came to see what the issue was.
Lovely restaurant, polite and friendly staff and delicious food
Delicious meal in a wonderful atmosphere, made all the more special by our charming server Nathan. The are and attention to detail he displayed made our evening. I am so glad I took his recommendation of the halibut. Will definitely return should I find myself in Halifax again!
From beginning to end Drift was absolutely incredible! Phenomenal service, world class food, I cant say enough. Will certainly return next time I visit Halifax.
The store itself has a very nice atmosphere. Yet when I went with my wife we were treated very badly by the waitress. Even before we ordered she was just rude and uncomfortable dealing with us. I am not sure to why but she seemed really nice to other cusotmers. I think we did fit the criteria she has in mind for the resturants customers. (racial profiling) I have never felt so uncomfortable in my life that I was not able to truly appreciate the food. I will never go back and I will make sure everyone knows what to expect setting foot in this restaurant.
Nice environment but it felt like a fancy Boston Pizza food experience. Sorry, I was really hopeful.
Halifax was such a beautiful city to visit and Drift was an amazing addition to our trip. Marco, Elise and all the staff were wonderful and the food and drinks were great. Shoutout to Wayne for the excellent wine recommendation as well! We even went for brunch there and were elated with both our visits. Thank you to everyone at Drift and Muir hotel for the great stay, I ll be back in Halifax as soon as I possibly can!
The food here was terrible. Bland and overpriced. I had the Eggs Benedict that came cold with a square hash brown cake that had zero flavour despite 2 lbs of ketchup I put on it to make it edible. Of course we never had the opportunity to discuss with the server because she dropped our food and we never saw her again. I can only assume this place survives because its located inside a hotel but if youre reading this and about to make a reservation, keep looking. One star because the hostess was quite friendly and the decor was nice but otherwise, the experience was forgettable.
Drift has a great ambiance with exceptional staff & the food was amazing, from their omelettes to the blueberry pancakes. Definitely a place to check out when visiting Halifax
The best restaurant in Halifax
Wonderful dinner experience at Drift. This restaurant has been on my radar and I finally had the opportunity to go. Our waiter was great and gave us recommendations for items to try and was very knowledgeable on the menu items. I ended up having a few of the appetizers.. the tuna crudo however was my favourite and I definitely recommend trying it. For my main I had the celery root schnitzel, and as something that was made without meat it was delicious. Vegetarian options: Celery Root Schnitzel
BEST BUNS AND HONEY BUTTER IN THE ENTIRE CITY! I even got to take some home for my birthday
Amazing food, creative cocktails, attentive service, and a great setting.
I have honestly given Drift a very fair shot on various occasions and want it to be good because the atmosphere is so fabulous but the truth is that the food consistently falls short of expectation. I have stayed at the Muir so enjoy the convenience of a drink on their patio in the summer but their food just simply never meets the mark. Their raw tuna dish is extremely bland and various dishes have been over cooked in my experience. I have however heard that their brunch is decent (of which I have not tried).
