Upmarket bistro-style menu with brunch, seafood, wines & cocktails in a cozy atmosphere.
I just had a culinary adventure at Edna’s in Halifax that was nothing short of spectacular. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable, I felt like I was dining with my own personal food guru! And the food? Insanely good—like if flavor and perfection teamed up for a gourmet showdown. We devoured lobster toast, beet salad, braised beef grilled cheese, and beef tartar. Each bite was a flavor explosion that left my taste buds in a standing ovation. We will be back!
The meals and cocktails were delicious. There was nice ambiance (a little dark - but that's why we have flashlights on our phones, right?). The place was busy and full the entire time we were there (6-9pm) but service did not suffer. Wait staff was very organized for our group of 10.
Another great evening at Edna, this place never disappoints! Great service and even better cocktails. The Espresso Martini was fantastic. The menu did change a bit since our last visit, but we were excited to try some new dishes. Highly recommend the Beef Tartare.
Put this one on your list! What a gem, with exceptional food, good vibes and friendly staff. They do fish so well here, I would highly recommend ordering any of those dishes.
I usually never take pictures of my food but this meal was too good not to! if you’re in halifax and want one of the best dinner experiences, edna is your spot!! thanks so much guys
My mom and I had lunch at Etna's and it was a great experience! Amazing food and atmosphere! Perfect blending of flavors on the food and super refreshing drinks! Love it!
Food and service were just great! We ordered quite ticky food to prepare but the chef did it really good. The deserts were so good that we would go back there for more. The lady who served us was very nice and we felt like she was our friend for years. I think this is important when you serve to picky hungry customers on Friday night :) About the atmosphere: It was too dark inside. Even it was intended, there should be some brighter spots. We do not like the area, but EDNA made us going back there soon.
This was my second dinner of the evening (and no, I'm not a hobbit). The meal was absolutely delightful! The steak tartare was superb, bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. The gnocchi was fantastic—, and paired perfectly with a rich, tomato sauce. What a treat!
I live in Toronto and travel internationally and within Canada multiple times a year and this is one of the best meals I ve had in a while. We sat at the bar and had absolutely wonderful service courtesy of Tory who gave us unique and inspired recommendations and made us some phenomenal custom cocktails (maybe the best I ve ever had). The amuse-bouche was excellent, as were the baked oysters, pea salad and trout. Each well balanced with unique flavours and they all came together beautifully thanks to Tory s suggestions. We will come back every time we re in town. And possibly tomorrow to check out tomorrow s amuse-bouche special.
Nice meal The Brussels sprouts were great as well as the halibut cheeks. Food
Delicious and so friendly!
Great food and friendly service I recommend highly
Süper friendly staff, coffee is okay but the breakfast is probably the best one Ive had since I moved to Canada
The food was amazing!! Portions were great and each course came quicker than expected. The service was also great. No pressure, the waiter was attentive and listed to what we were expecting. The only thing to improve regarding atmosphere would be the tables, as ours was a bit smaller and we struggled with our plates. Also, the chairs could benefit of cushions. Otherwise, great!!
Food was exceptional.
Great service. Nice inventive menu, and very good service. I had the lobster tagliatelle and while good, the flavours overpowered the lobster and it was a little salty. The radicchio salad was amazing. My husband had the blue dot rib eye, which, and at first was very disappointing for him as he asked for it medium rare and it came out well and was actually a little charred at one end. ( we rarely eat meat at home because our daughter a vegetarian) He stopped eating it but the server checked in she took care of it and the kitchen replaced the meal promptly. The steak came out perfectly, and was delicious/perfectly cooked (to the point we all tasted it!). Literally the best steak he ever had! They handled it so professionally which was appreciated. Everyone enjoyed the meals - we would certainly return. Sometimes a kitchen gets it wrong- but most of all, loved how it was handled.
Amazing food ! Personalized service thank you Reichel for accommodating our needs and being so on point Exceptional food and atmosphere
My wife ordered The Breakfast and I ordered the Flat Iron Steak and Eggs. The food was fabulous.
Best steak I ve had in a very long time!! Very friendly staff!
Absolutely fantastic, for the second time. The food is just so good. And the service is amazing. It will always be my first stop when visiting Halifax. I highly recommend this restaurant Food : 5/5
An interesting menu.Good food and friendly staff. A must if your visiting Halifax
I don t know why, but everything, every time, tastes so goood! One of my fav spots in Halifax You wouldn t regret it spending your time and money here
The burger was awesome, albeit greasy.
Great food, drinks, and service
EDNA has been a favorite for years and never disappoints. We had smashed cucumber and haddock appetizer, beef stroganoff special and the scallops. Finished with sticky toffee pudding. All beautiful and all delicious. already looking forward to my next visit.... I hope it is soon :)
Fabulous menu with something for everyone. We shared two kinds of oysters as an appetizer. Lovely and fresh. I had the steak tartare and it was out of this world good. One friend had the halibut cheeks and another the braised beef special of the day. I tasted theirs and those dishes were amazing also. We opted to have dinner at the bar and service was friendly, welcoming, low key, and incredibly efficient. The place was small, a little crowded, and exactly the right vibe for an understated but utterly charming spot with spectacular food. When I return to Halifax ll head straight to Edna!
Really creative menus with fresh ideas and really great food!
Everyone in Halifax talks about this place and how great it is. When compared to other restaurants and up and coming chefs in other cities like New York, Toronto, San Francisco it doesnt compare. The food was good and edible but nothing on the plate really stood out. The cheeks seemed a little bland to me. The artic char was good but nothing out of the ordinary that I could cook myself. This was recommended to us by locals when we were looking for a seafood place. There are better seafood restaurants nearby within the same price point as Edna.
Best meal (dinner) weve had in Halifax, may go back for lunch if we have time. Innovative menu, star service, everything we ate had us moaning with delight. My wife had a fresh pea salad (daily app special) that she said was one of the best salads shes ever had. I had the seared tuna (an great mix of flavours and textures) we shared the excellent braised beef (the potato and mushroom mille feuille (my description not theirs) was also outstanding). So many desserts sounded good that we each had one and both were amazing (chocolate tort and sticky toffee cake). Go there and you will not be disappointed (unlike our first restaurant meal that came highly recommended but was at best average).
Excellent food. The hosts were great, very careful and considerate of our allergies. My wife loved the lobster eggs benny. The crispy potatoes were my favourite. Dietary restrictions: Fish allergy, nut allergy
My husband, best friend, and I enjoyed one of the best dinner experiences we ve had in a long time. Absolutely in my top 3 restaurants throughout Canada (we are foodies that travel a lot!) The local oysters were so fresh, modestly sized and paired well with the accompaniments. The charred cabbage topped with crispy almond and *magic* was so delicious (not a spot on the plate left behind), the Icelandic Cod was cooked to perfection, and paired with such flavourful vegetables and sauce. I could eat that every night of the week! The beef tartar was incredible, seasoned so well with the black truffle; I highly recommend starting the meal with this! We also enjoyed the extremely fresh garden to table spring pea salad, so light and fresh. And the halibut cheek was also cooked perfectly; it was contradictorily hearty yet light (I am very particular with seafood, as many places overcook or over season it. Not Edna s. They do it right!) It is unfortunately the only time I have received one of the most beautiful meals and did not get any photos! We were so immersed in the experience; the atmosphere was romantic and chill, the service was exceptional, and the dessert is not one to miss! We shared the sticky toffee pudding and the herbal blueberry topped cheesecake, both highly recommended. This meal felt like gluttony in its finest, as we ate more than needed but every single bite was thoroughly enjoyed! Chef Nick Mooney and his team are absolutely killing it; if you are in the area, definitely enjoy a meal at Edna s
Had the braised beef grilled cheese, salad and bacon corn chowder for lunch. Everything tasted amazing! Great atmosphere and service, will definitely return to try the dinner menu!
We had a fantastic dinner at Edna s. We chose the Brussel sprouts as an appetizer, which were delicious. For dinner we had the two fish dishes offered, both cooked perfectly. Our waitress was extremely friendly and helped us with our dinner selections. They also offer a nice variety of wines.we highly recommend Edna s.
Phenomenal food and service. One of the best meals we have had.
Excellent restaurant. Great Owners (that set a positive tone), Staff and Chef. Reasonable prices for high quality food that is made from scratch. I wish I had this restaurant in Toronto. Must try their Halibut cheeks dish although everything else my party of 4 had, was enjoyed. We came for breakfast and returned for a great dinner we enjoyed just before catching our flight back to Toronto. This is one of the best restaurants Ive visited and a must try for anyone visiting Halifax. Thank you Cora and Ednas team!
Definitely go..that is all.
Great food and service, but...it was pretty LOUD.. some noise softening wall coverings would be beneficial. It was not easy to have a conversation and very annoying having to listen to the tables near to yours. So, great food and service, but not so much a great evening , sorry
Love, love, love, Edna! We got the strawberry salad special and the blue dot ribeye. One of the best steaks I ve ever had. Excellent service and even better food! Highly recommend.
Came from Montreal for a long weekend and had the best meal of the whole trip. Ambience was great, service was even better. The yellowfin tuna dish was probably one of the best dishes Ive ever had. Would go out of my way to come back and have it again. 15/10 recommend
Edna is able to provide a celiac safe dining experience. Highly recommend to anyone looking for casual upscale dining.
One of the better brunches I have had in quite some time, with an even better dining experience. The entire team ensures your full dining experience from when you walk through the doors is special. We had a very large party and the team were very quick to make sure we always had what we needed, even if it was just a refill on some coffee. Thank you to the entire EDNA Team!
Bland and overpriced. Had the pork belly as starter, and cod as the main. Would not recommend.
Ordered the gnocci with a pink piquette zero and the sticky toffee cake. Gnocci is hit or miss sometimes with me but its INCREDIBLE here. Could use a few more vegetarian options but if theyre going to have one veg entree this is what Id want it to be. Piquette was great and the sticky toffee cake came with a local black sesame ice cream (the real reason I ordered it honestly) that went super well with the cake. Staff were great, service was quick and high-quality, and I loved the vibe. Prices were pretty good, especially for the quality of the food. Absolutely recommending this place to friends coming to Halifax in the future! Vegetarian options: Not too many, but what they do have is high quality and actually a substantial meal.
Amazing spot, fantastic food, service and beer. Walkable from the waterfront.
Absolutely amazing dinner and experience. Its a very special place.
The whole experience was great. The food, the atmosphere and the service were amazing. Great place for brunch.
A really elegant experience from start to finish. We found the cocktails inventive and tasty. Our favourite dish of the night were the short ribs we had for an appetizer. The flavours were complex and we could have ordered several more! The mains were tastefully plated and well flavoured. We found the service friendly and attentive as well. Sweet atmosphere. I recommend a visit!
We loved this place in the past but hadn t been in a while. From other reviewers comments, I gather that the place was sold some years ago, and in my estimation has gone to the dogs since then. The food was abysmal in my opinion - the divorciados with egg I would guess are laughable but with tofu it s hard to imagine a worse breakfast: flavourless sauces (I d want a divorce from both of them), a bizarre hard pita chip-type round underneath a few small slabs of fried tofu, and a lacklustre salad. Yuck. I d asked the server if I d regret and she assured me I wouldn t - she couldn t have been less helpful. The jam and toast was also weirdly bad - extremely salty toast with a strangely bad jam - it s hard to imagine how toast and jam could go wrong but somehow they do here. Scones with maple butter - no thanks and apparently we have different definitions of maple butter. The service was very poor. There were a few good things though - the cocktail I had was decent enough, and the hash brown was fantastic, still looks fairly nice in there. Will not return.
All the food was phenomenally good and the service lovely. The beef was insanely good, as was the cheesecake. Good vego options too.
Phenomenal experience, the food was really amazing and great portion sizes. We had the rib eye and the special which was swordfish. Everything was cooked perfectly, flavours were great, cocktails were creative and delicious, server was attentive but not over bearing. Atmosphere got pretty loud in there with a full house, but thats the only complaint!
The food here is outstanding especially the beef brisket. Everything we tried was delicious. We sat at the bar and the bartender was lovely. Amazing service. Cant recommend enough.
Outstanding food, the friendliest of service, and the most welcoming and comfortable environment in Halifax. After doing the 4-5 top-rated restaurants in Halifax, this one was a clear winner all-around! Thank-you!
Great place ! Highly recommend! Good atmosphere! Good ambiance! Delicious food!
The food was exceptional and service phenomenal! I will definitely return and have already referred family and friends. Food
Best restaurant in Halifax Dietary restrictions: Great gluten free accomodations Food : 5/5 |
Good food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere! Coworkers and I stopped in for lunch. We are from out of town and chose this place because they had vegan options. I had the vegan hash with tofu and it was quite good! Coworkers had the fish tacos and smash burger and they really enjoyed their food! (I had to dock one star because the hash could have been crispy but I am nitpicking.) Our server was very friendly and the atmosphere had a relaxed vibe. I will add this place to my lift of vegan-friendly spots to eat in Halifax, as I return for work a few times a year. Vegetarian options: Vegan hash with tofu.
Very nice restaurant, server was excellent Enjoyed our visit Food
SOLID!
Some of the best food around. You have to try the sticky toffee cake with sesame ice cream.
Great atmosphere, great food, and friendly staff! Would definitely recommend checking them out.
edna brunch blew me away
First time visiting and had a great experience. Terrific, attentive and friendly service. Cocktails were amazing and the food was great. The chocolate torte and side of black sesame icecream topped it off perfectly.
Wow - such a great restaurant! The vibe and ambience was amazing. Our servers were so good at their job, creating conversations with us and giving great recommendations. We had the baked oysters (so good and creamy!), the crispy beef (mixture of tender and crispy), Brussels sprouts (their special - great peanut butter sauce), rainbow trout (so much flavour and the crispiness was great!) and lastly the sticky toffee pudding with the black sesame ice cream. Would love to come back again to try their brunch.
I absolutely love when a restaurant exceeds my expectations, and this was the case with my dining experience at Edna. Our server, Haley, was attentive and knowledgeable about all our food and drink questions. The food was incredible! Every bite was so flavorful, excellently preseneted, and prepared. Major kudos to the chef. We will be back!
Amazing dinner experience. The place is beautiful, service was excellent. We shared 3 starters the beetroot salad, the crispy beef and the fried Brussels sprouts special. This one was particularly amazing my favorite of everything I tried. The vegetarian fettuccine were nice however something in the taste was missing, the three of us who tasted it agreed. It was missing some umami to balance it. Maybe some dried mushrooms for example, kalamata olives, capers or miso. Then it would have been perfect! The desserts we tried were also excellent the sticky toffee pudding and the special pecan maple walnut tart. No espresso machine that was a bit disappointing. Hope this feedback can help to improve some aspects but overall recommend it 100%.
Had a fantastic dinner here. Excellent flavours all around. Started with the Beef Tataki and Brussels sprouts with peanut sauce as standout starters. Both had creative takes vs standard sauces. Very impressed by the balance of savoury sweet and tangy. The burrata toast though ok lost some of the wow of burrata with the pieces being a bit small and over powering the mild cheese. For mains had the Ribeye, Lamb Gnocchi, Scallops, and Halibut Cheek. All were excellent and great flavours. Cocktails were also stellar having tried the mezcal and tequila based ones. This place is definitely a bit of a hidden gem. Surprised that we were able to get last minute resos. Highly recommend.
Met expectations! Ate there at new years, a 5 course meal and it was great!
Great food, great atmosphere and excellent staff. A solid go to in Halifax.
Really delicious food. The tartare was particularly good. Nice selection of drinks as well
Edna never disappoints. Divine food with masterful and often unconventional flavour combinations that just work. Usually a small menu but with lots of variety of expertly prepared food to cater to all tastes. The menu changes often which means that you will always find something new to try. I highly recommend that you stop by once and I bet youll keep coming back.
Edna is in my top 3 of all time favorite restaurants. Based on various reviews my friend and I decided to make reservations at Edna for our first night in Halifax. OMG - so happy that we made it - we walked from the boardwalk / waterfront and were surprised on the location of Edna Restaurant - it is perfect hidden gem (hidden for us but popular with local residents) The fried oysters we outstanding and the Halibut Cheeks were simply mouth watering - all items were good and service was very good - Sandy, one of the servers is such a nice person and very welcoming.
Everything I ordered was pretty much a 10.
Fab dinner here while in town. Amazing mix of seafood and vegetables.
Very welcoming and warm. Great decor and ambiance. The service is very attentive. Beautiful experience. The food was delicious . It was fresh and very flavourful.
One of my favorite restaurant in Halifax, and i should go there more often! Really enjoy our Halibut cheek & seared scallops there !
Such a great experience all around. Easily one of the best restaurants in the city! Tuna Poke and Rib Eye were ungodly good.
SO GOOD. best beef tartare Ive ever had. Everything so good
Delicious drinks and amazing atmosphere. Perfect service.
Big fan of the single duck tortellini that were relatively cheap ($3). I love being able to experience just a sample of some other really good food along with the main I ordered. Bathrooms were a little cold, but thats my only complaint.
Excellent dining experience all round Service was absolutely top notch and the dishes were all so unique but so tasty Recommended dishes Seared Halibut, Arctic Char, Tuna Poke
If I lived in town we would eat here weekly! I cannot say a bad thing about our experience or meal. Vegetarian options: Im a vegetarian and had plenty to choose from Dietary restrictions: My girlfriend has Celiac and the staff was very helpful and knowledgeable in ensuring her ability to dine safely
Quality food as always, will visit again! Good to come with family visit, worth the price
Edna have a great chef Stephanie.
We had their amuse bouche (sourdough topped with smokey pulled beef and sauerkraut, if I recall correctly), fried smelts, beef tartare, PEI blue dot rib eye, and seared scallops. Service was top notch. And we highly recommend the mains, especially the seared scallop (12/10 for taste and plating), and the fried smelts were lovely.
Absolutely loved the experience. Brad was fantastic, amazing food and place. Highly recommended my Oysters were delicious
Try the Brussel sprouts!
This was honestly, the best dining experience I ve had in years. We came in for lunch and the food was incredible all around. The service was friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating to my friend s gluten intolerance. Not to mention this restaurant is GORGEOUS! Beautiful atmosphere. We were there during the day but I bet it s really romantic at night. Can t wait to come back!
Outstanding food, excellent and friendly service. I absolutely love this place!
The scallops were delicious and as good as any I have had in a restaurant. The staff were pleasant, knowledgeable, and accommodating. A memorable experience.
Lovely place., well located and very good kitchen. Highly recommended.
Hands down my favourite restaurant in the city! The food is consistently divine and the atmosphere is perfect for a date night, solo feast or get together with friends!
Without question the best food and drinks in the maritimes. The staff is so knowledgeable about every aspect of the dining experience that even the bartender knew every step of fermentation process for just one of the hot sauces! My only concern is that I won t be able to get back again to have the brussel sprouts, tartare and gnocchi before the next menu change!
I came for the beef tartare; it was amazing as usual. However, I will trade my condo for another plate of those brussels sprouts.
Showed up to have a snack and a glass of wine, ended up having 3 different amazing courses with a few cocktails! Food was well balanced and full of flavour, the wine recommendation was absolutely spot on and the staff was super friendly, helpful and all around pleasant! Absolutely will be back.
Amazing food and service. Scallops and sticky toffee cake were delicious
3 of us had dinner last night. As much as we enjoyed the atmosphere and really enjoyed the staff, the food was just ok. Everything was very bland. The descriptions of the food sounded amazing and we were super excited. Every flavour just blended in to each other. This was my second similar experience there. I always hear people raving about it and have high hopes.
Yes to everything! Curated oysters, fresh pasta, hot sauce for the oyster arent bought, but made in house. Atmosphere definitely matches the service and food.
Honestly some of the best food I ve eaten. Scallops are amazing.
Incredible experience! We had expected a lot from Edna as several of our friends had mentioned it for our trip to Halifax. Without a doubt, this place delivered. We were seated along the windows at the front of the restaurant, allowing us to watch the foot traffic on the lively street. The restaurant is long and has a wonderful wood and brass arch anchoring the room and housing the seated bar. We started with tuna poke and fried oysters. Both were fantastic. We shared the scallops and striped bass for mains. Both completely amazing dishes. The scallops had squash of all kinds, prepared in a several different ways. Bringing some savoury to the dish was cubed, fried ham bits. The bass was the special and came together nicely with bok choy, creamed kale, and baby red potatoes. It was mouth-watering. Just incredible. The portion size was sensible and we had little room for dessert. We managed to wrap our lips around a sticky toffee cake served with black sesame ice cream. Unreal. Our server was extremely mindful and friendly. With great suggestions from the menu (and things to do around town), our experience was made complete by the outstanding service. You must eat here if you are in Halifax.
We chose Edna s for a special anniversary celebration on the recommendation of a friend. The service was warm and efficient, and the food was excellent! We shared the delicious brussel sprout starter, and then were blown away by the steak and the scallop dinners! So happy we chose Edna s!
Excellent food and great service!
Edna is a must for anyone in Halifax who enjoys fine dining. The food is excellent, the ambiance is romantic, and the service was outstanding. I would recommend it to anyone.
Cute little place serving up delicious food! Honestly, everything was perfect and we cant wait to come back!
We had the pleasure of having Cora as our server. She was awesome and adorable. The food and atmosphere was warm and lively. A bit on the loud and festive side but very lively in the best ways.
I waited in line for a long time in the morning and had brunch. It tasted good and the service was good! It s a nice environment to go shopping around!
Incredibly delicious (and complex) food! Staff are talkative and friendly. Been multiple times and both food and service were consistently above average. Not to mention great atmosphere and space.
Inventive seafood dishes.
Super delish restaurant. Thoughtful creations and great cocktails.
Spectacular food and service.
Amazing experience. Food is absolutely a must try ( we had the half charcuterie board, the trout, the gnocchi and the sticky toffee cake). The cocktails are amazing and so unique, I would really recommend for any kind of occasions !
This meal is absolutely the one to beat when it comes to our down east travels - we don t think it can be topped!! We came in for an early dinner after a recommendation from a friend and we were not disappointed. The staff were all lovely and extremely attentive. Service was fast and we had food at the table very quickly which is appreciated when travelling with a little one. We enjoyed the steak tartare and crispy Brussels sprouts to start - loved them both, especially the vinegar in the Brussels. Our little one enjoyed the trout which was juicy and topped with a lovely parsley salad. The dish that stole the show and our hearts was the steak - wow. It was served with fingerlings, mushrooms and a pea purée. Absolutely delicious. We will be dreaming about this until our next visit. Thank you for a lovely and memorable evening! Kid-friendliness: The staff were so accommodating when it came to our little one. Her meal arrived quickly and entertainment was supplied when little miss got a wee bit grumpy. Thank you for the attentive and sweet service.
We came in on a recommendation, and we were very pleased. The food is incredible. Between the two of us, we got two separate apps, and mains, and shared. Honestly, everything was top notch. You must try their food!
Very tasty meal, the oysters and the scallop plate were delicious! The atmosphere is pleasant and the service is courteous and efficient.
Pleasant atmosphere, delicious meal and impeccable service!
We were very well treated, the girls are very nice. The food was good ( good quality made with local ingredients). I reccommend the visit.
Absolutely fantastic one of the best meals Ive had, great drinks. Got the beef tartar and the rainbow trout with a I think i carried a watermelon and a nice weather out all amazing. Wonderful spot 100% recommend
Service was great and my wife and was happy with her meal, however I ordered the most expensive item on the menu being the the steak. As any good restaurant does they asked how I would like the steak cooked, I ordered medium rare. When the steak came it was cremated (well done). I immediately sent it back, when the second one came the lady who brought it the table made some suggestion about steak cooking levels being interpreted differently between different people (or something), anyhow 2nd steak was presented exactly the same, by this point I was hungry and didn t want to embarrass my partner by sending the steak back a second time as it was our anniversary so accepted it but kinda suggested to our waitress it was the same. Shame because this place has all the ingredients to be great but fails on execution. Even if it was just because they were busy I feel they could have done more to manage expectations. Photos of 2nd steak.
Went with a group of friends, a reservation is a must. My partner and I got some oysters, a ribeye and a smoked pork fettuccine. Everything was delicious! The ribeye was a bit on the saltier side and the fettuccine a bit on the lighter side. Would go back to the restaurant
Very cool place. Food was delicious, really enjoyed the service as well. Decor is very cool here as well. Will definitely be back for another nice dinner.
Lots of fun. Food is so yummy and the atmosphere warm..
Edna must be on your list if you want to enjoy the best food in Halifax (or even Nova Scotia). Their menu changes seasonally to provide the best ingredients on your plate. Ive been twice in the past 2 years and Im always pleased with their service: very casual and friendly. The small restaurant prices are really good for the quality you get. Everything on the menu is tasty but do not miss the seared scallops, its divine!
Very good!
Excellent says it all. They have a small but diverse menu.
The scallops were delicious, and the service was excellent. We didnt have a reservation, however there was room at the bar.
Great meal, wonderful experience.
Edna is hands down the best restaurant I have been to and I have been to many restaurants. If you are a foodie, this place needs to be on your to do list. The dishes are exquisite. So much effort was put into the composition of these dishes and the flavours in each dish is top notch. We ordered the beef tartare, rainbow trout and squid and they were to die for. I also had the pork pasta, not as good as the other menu items but still better than the pasta dishes served in other restaurants around Halifax. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming, perfect for date night.
Outstanding. Heather at the bar is awesome. Jim and Jenny
Had a great experience at Edna! First and foremost the service was incredible. From the moment you walk into the door you are treated like a guest. Our waitress was fantastic and great at recommending dishes. Had the gnocchi and it was delicious. Everyone at my table enjoyed their meals (scallops, braised beef, pork fettuccini). The chocolate torte was fantastic. About 3 or 4 service staff thanks us on our way out the door with a smile. The food was delicious but its also service like that will bring us back again! Thanks for a great evening :)
This is the best restaurant I have eaten at in Halifax. We had the tuna, baked oysters, grilled squid, and scallops all delicious. Service and ambiance were excellent, can t wait to come back!
Fantastic restaurant in the North end of Halifax. The food is exceptional and the service is equally great.
Everything was amazing! The only thing that could have made it better was if I could have ordered a milkshake from the bar.
Just returned from celebrating my birthday at Edna. It was a fantastic meal from start to finish. I had their tomato salad, trout for my main and their chocolate torte everything was so amazing. We were greeted by friendly staff and a great server! If you re in Halifax be sure to have dinner here. You wont be disappointed !
Absolute best brunch place in Halifax since Jane s on the Common (which I still miss every day!!) could not recommend more, and fantastic for dinner as well Vegetarian options: Very accommodating Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating
We didn t make reservations, but luckily walked in at 6pm on a Sunday evening and offered a table. We ordered marinated NS pea salad, seared scallops and rainbow trout. All of the dishes had amazing combinations of flavours and textures with decent portion sizes. They have daily specials as well.
Everything was spectacular here! They were friendly, great with our little guy, fast service, and delicious food. We loved every dish no complaints at all!
Amazing experience! The food was to die for, and our waitress was top-notch.
If you eat one spot in Halifax, make it Edna. Absolutely amazing meal beginning to end, and great cocktails as well. Staff was super friendly and helpful in ordering. Vibes were cozy and lovely. A can t miss culinary experience.
Outstanding experience. Nothing missed or wanted for. Absolutely the most creative execution of the best ingredients in a warm and relaxed setting delivered with stellar service. Get there.
Food was delicious and the service was great! Unfortunately I didnt take pics, I was honestly just really hungry so I just ate. Didnt have a reservation either but they are pretty accomodating, will definitely be eating there again
It was a wonderful experience. Easygoing and unique. Tori (Tory?) was our delightful server who knew the menu inside out. Great food and cool vibe.
Nice place, great food and service.
Had a fantastic meal with a group of my girlfriends. We shared many dishes and were blown away but everything but one, which with only a slightly complaint led the server to comping the dish. The scallops and beer tartare are unforgettable. Best service I ve had in the city he was was charismatic and had us laughing all evening. Edna is now at the top of my list for best restaurants in Halifax!
One of the best restaurants in Halifax. Great food and staff! Everything was very good but the oysters and tartare were definitely standouts. The menu changes occasionally so theres always something new to try.
Food was absolutely delicious. Service was quick (other than the drinks but I think the bartender was backed up) The interior of the room is stunning,
I really wanted to like this place. I ordered the Halibut Cheeks . They should have mentioned you got one cheek and one chunk of fillet. The cheek was delicious but the other piece was not only dry, it wasn t fresh. So much so, the gentleman sitting at the next table commented on the fishy smell while looking over at my plate that was just served. For an upscale restaurant that serves fish in Halifax, they should have known better than to serve it. The staff was great as was they decor.
Service and food both excellent.
Inventive menu, good choice of wine, pleasant welcome. Impeccable products cooked with great skill.
They managed to squeeze us in because of a cancellation and we are really glad they did. Lonely Planet said, Ednas equals excellence. We concur. Our scallop dishes were divine, staff was gracious and friendly, atmosphere was great! The immediate area is a tiny bit dodgy but Im assuming it is an up and coming area.
This was the BEST meal in Halifax!! Every single dish was best after another. Just incredible.
Amazing flavors! Exquisitely prepared dishes with so much thought into flavors combinations and presentation.
Of all the restaurants Ive visited in Golifax, this is the most delicious. The kitchen is fantastic. The service is good. The chairs are a bit hard. A little dark. But the food outweighs everything else.
Exceptional lunch!!
We are visiting Halifax for the first time. I went into Edna Restaurant hoping to gave a great meal. BUT... not only is it a good meal. EVERYTHING is to perfection. The host, waiter, cook, and food are exceptional. Thank you staff for making my dining excellent!
Spectacular. The drinks, the appies, and the mains were delicious. The presentation was great too. Our server was very professional but oddly couldn t answer any questions about the menu or wine. Maybe she was new. But great experience and would go back.
From starters to meals, ALL were excellent! Professional service and very nice restaurant near the hotels and docks. Thank you for everything.
One of the best meals we have ever had the buratta and oysters were incredible, the scallops and steak were perfect and the staff were kind and welcoming. Couldn t recommend more highly!
We were a group of 5 looking for good food and a fun night out, choosing Edna s was not disappointing. Amazing food, excellent service and a fun atmosphere. Can t wait to go back!
excellent food and dining experience, including for our kids! the staff are knowledgeable about the menu and generous of their time, and helped us pick a good sampling of local produce and a great wine pairing
One of my fav restaurants in Halifax. Their scallop crudo was out of this world - it s a must try!! Oysters were super fresh and delicious too.
Staff very hospitable and the food is amazing.
This was the best meal I had while visiting Halifax. We sat at the bar and had the most wonderful service. The appetizers were so tasty. I had a feature (strip loin) which was perfect. My wife had scallops which she loved. Our server/bartender (Caylee) was amazing. The relaxed atmosphere was great. If I come back to Halifax, I will come back here for dinner.
Went for dinner... my scallops were delicious and my gin-basil-cucumber drink was really good... husband enjoyed his duck confit as well.
Amazing food, cocktails and service. I would be a regular if only I lived here.
Very good restaurant, the best food I tried in Halifax so far. Bering from Toronto, the prices are surprisingly reasonable. The place is very busy though, make sure to make a reservation and dont expect a quiet evening. The dishes are quite elaborate and well decorated, the bar has a good selection of spirits.
Best food in town
Service and food were excellent, very accommodating for food restrictions, scallop crudo was amazing
A group of 9 of us were there last evening for my wifes surprise birthday dinner, most of whom have never experienced such a quality establishment & everyone was extremely impressed. Although pricey you get what you pay for, from the quality of service right down to the quality of the food. Definitely one of the best locations in Halifax!
Outstanding restaurant with an excellent menu, great staff and delicious food in a cozy, unpretentious setting. Ednas has world class cuisine and we will definitely be back!!
Amazing food, delicious drinks, fantastic ambiance. Dietary restrictions: Accommodated my fish allergy
I always try to go to this great place every single time I travel to Halifax. The food is really tasty and the service excellent. The only thing that bother me: I feel like the portions have reduced a bit since I came last time (a while ago....). I maybe wrong but anyway, I will come back, just for the quality of the food! Thanks!
Delicious food and impeccable service. Loved it!
Fantastic food and and service. Would recommend.
Wonderful dinning experience. Seating was close by each other but the food was perfect
Amazing food! Delicious delicious!! High quality. Great hosts. If you are in Halifax you have to try this place.
This place is truly an incredible value - you are getting top-quality cuisine for ~60% of the price of the competition. Every dish we had was wonderful and despite having to wait a while for our table due to an extended occupation, we left with warm memories of the meal and a strong desire to return.
Absolutely love this place!! Wonderful food And the staff are warm and inviting!!! Made Halifax definitely one of our favourite cities
Vegetarian options: Great gnocchi
This is my favorite restaurant in Halifax. Always consistent with amazing food and service.
Wonderful dining experience in Halifax. A group of 4 went for dinner to Edna. The restaurant is cute, a bit loud and hot inside but still great. Cocktails excellent, appetizers were fantastic, the Burrata, the Oysters, the salad all flavourful and delicious. Mains scallops, fish and steak equally delicious. And the deserts, lovely. Great service, friendly staff, great price for the food quality so overall excellent experience. Highly recommended.
Spectacular! What an incredible dining experience in Halifax! The food was off the chart! Had the oysters, beef tartar and halibut cheeks. Be aware the neighborhood is a little dodgy. I dont go to Halifax often. But I will go to EDNA everytime I do!
This place is a revelation. Best oysters I have ever had, followed by an incredibly well-garnished tuna poke, a generous beef tartare, incredibly succulent scallops and a mouth-watering duck confit. If this is the only place you have a meal in Halifax, you won t be disappointed. 5 stars aren t enough!
Edna came as the top recommendation from a friend who lives in the city, and it did not disappoint. Our table was not ready on time, but the host was proactive in seating us at the bar, and getting us each a complimentary daily small-bite feature while we waited. While both vegetarian and dairy-free options are pretty limited, the wait staff and kitchen had no problem accommodating what they were able to. The drinks, food, and dessert were all incredible high quality, delicious, and beautifully put together. I would encourage Edna to include a couple more vegetarian/vegan options to make for a more inclusive and cohesive dining experience. Vegetarian options: There were a couple of vegetarian appetizer and entrée options on the menu, but it felt limited. Dietary restrictions: The staff were willing to accommodate dietary restrictions, within the limits of their offerings.
Great drinks, recommend the corn fritters all the time, very delicious with a touch of honey <3
Couldnt say enough wonderful things about Ednas. We went for dinner and the ambience was great. Food was so good. We had the beef tartare, duck confit and the squid. Everything was great. We had the apple crisp for dessert which was heaven!!! Kaylee was our server and she was great. She gave really good recommendations and was so friendly. Absolutely recommend the experience there!
