1919 Upper Water St, Halifax, NS B3J 3J5, Canada
Hotel eatery sporting contemporary decor features globally inspired, locally sourced seafood dishes.
I cannot say enough good things about Harbourstone! From the moment we walked in, we felt so welcome, and our server, Ingrid, made the experience truly unforgettable. She was attentive, friendly, and had excellent recommendations for both food and drinks. Her warm personality and impeccable timing made our meals seamless and completely enjoyable. The food was absolutely fantastic – everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We started with the seafood chowder, which was rich and creamy, followed by an amazingly delicious seafood pasta dish. The desserts were a highlight too – the pumpkin tart was over-the-top amazing! Anytime we visit Halifax, we'll be back and will ask for Ingrid again! Highly recommended!
If you want a fast and easy lunch, this is the right place to get it. We came here on remembrance Day so practically no one was around. The restaurants located inside a hotel so it took a hot minute to find, but once we did we were immediately seated. The orders came quick, we got a lobster roll and truffle fries, I personally liked the fries better than the roll. There’s nothing inherently special about this place. Its just a quick dine and dash, so if that’s what you’re looking for, here you go.
Emma makes the most incredible martini I have ever had. As well, she explained how she makes it. She made me feel completely at home. What an outstanding place, and an incredible person. Thank you, Emma.
Harbourstone Pour House exceeded my expectations with its delicious offerings. The cappuccino was absolutely fantastic—smooth and perfectly balanced. The calamari sandwich was fresh and incredibly tasty, with just the right amount of seasoning. The burger was also top-notch, cooked to perfection and full of flavour. On top of that, the prices were very reasonable, making it a great spot for a quality meal without breaking the bank. A special mention goes to Ben, who served us with kindness and attentiveness, making the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommended!
I love dinner here and have been many times. Seafood chowder, Caesar salad, and mac and cheese are my favorites. Every time I used Club Lounge Access as a Marriott member. I would definitely recommend staying at Marriott with Club Lounge Access. Three menu items from this restaurant are included in the room rate.
The food was delicious, but the lobster roll was a bit of a letdown. The lobster was mushy and not plump. The mayonnaise overpowered the delicate flavor of the lobster. However, the seafood chowder was absolutely delightful. The restaurant also has a lovely patio with stunning views.
Came here on a Sunday Evening. It’s located inside the Marriott Hotel at the Waterfront but apparently they do have a patio too. We sat indoors though. The burgers were good but lacked a real kick even though both mentioned having a spicy sauce. But definitely not bad. The salad was decent as per my friend. Drinks were fine too. Our orders took quite a long time to arrive though. They mentioned they were managing the patio as well as the indoors hence the delay. To sum up it is a place for a good, relaxing time. Not the best of the best, as expected by the Marriott Brand but definitely a safe bet and good for the price.
Lovely Restaurant is located inside the hotel with a beautiful atmosphere. Great staff, the manager, she was amazing & super friendly, made my drinks on point 👌🏽👌🏽along with the other bartender Carly. Not to mention the waitress/waiters: Hannah & Christian gave absolutely amazing service with the food/drinks. I will definitely be back next time in town. Highly recommended!
Excellent service ans the Best chowder i ve never had
We had breakfast here and although the service and atmosphere were excellent, the food was very average. The hash browns had a stale taste to them and the hollandaise sauce lacked flavour.
Great breakfast, excellent service, awesome location
We had a lovely meal. Our server, Sheryl made our dining experience enjoyable with her bubbly personality and efficient service. We will be requesting her on future visits.
Ordered ceasar salad and non alcoholic beverage. Lettuce was brown on almost entire salad so bartender offered to get a new one. No thanks. Was given my bill from him for the salad and beverage. Won t be going back for the duration of our 4 day stay with my team.
Stopped by for the second night in a row and we were greeted with a warm accomodating welcome from the young hostess with a great smile behind her big glasses. Our server Cheryl brought a friendly home town vibe to a classy place. Will be back for sure next time we come to Halifax Food
Didnt think it would be inside a hotel lobby , but affordable apps and drinks .
Very modern look. The best thing was their breakfast. I had the salmon omelet. I shouldnt have finished it as it was huge, but I did! I recommend this for breakfast and the quality of the serving.
Victor Fraser performs here.
Poached salmon on the menu but they ran out and found it acceptable to substitute smoked salmon without asking. When brought to their attention they just acknowledged they made the substitution on their own accord. Poor customer relations.
Extremely small proportions. My husband ordered the smoked salmon bagel he had to assemble it himself and was given two small packets of cream cheese. I asked for my eggs benny over hard and they were hardly cooked. I had to call the waitress over for refills and I got my food when my husband was finished his. Go somewhere else.
Noah was such a great knowledgeable bartender server. Enjoyed the crab salad tacos and fish and chips. I am a craft beer fan and he had a fantastic insight to the local beers that are served here. Also great tip for us when I was looking for Steakhouse. We will be back here for sure.
Amazing, amazing food!!
My wife and I decided dropped in for dinner. The service was very good. She had the mussels and was quite pleased with them. I ordered their entry into the Halifax Burger Bash promotion, a butter chicken burger. It was not good at all. The bun was dry and the butter chicken tasted like it was from a frozen grocery store entree.
Had the yellowtail snapper BLT. Awesome~
Went for my 40th birthday dinner and it was absolutely amazing. The food was great, and so was the service, and then they surprised me with a nice Peace by Chocolate bar as a gift. Had a great time - thank you guys.
Delicious nachos, and very friendly servers. Definitely recommend if coming to Halifax!
Nice atmosphere, food was good, slight issues with service. Stopped in for the Burger Bash burger, which was pretty good! The burger stated it comes with a side of either soup, green salad, or fries. When we asked what salads the burger came with, our server listed some salad options, one of which was a caesar salad. A few of us got the caesar salad, but we were not told that it would be an extra $4 because I guess the caesar salad was not actually one of the included side options. We brought this up to the (different) server who brought us our bill, who did not have much to say about the mix-up, simply stating that the caesar salad is $4 extra (once we had already eaten our meal). Other slight issues with the service such as one of our drinks being forgotten until we reminded a server about it, and I believe 2 of the burgers had onions removed when only one of us had asked for no onions. Other than some service issues it was a decent experience.
Nice Hotel Restaurant with a good selection of dishes.
We stopped to grab a bite to eat and sip a nice cocktail. We were delighted with our choice: two tasty cocktails and a charcuterie board to share
Food is great and the prices are at the standard of it. Do not listen to the complaining spoiled creature in here. Lol The cofe is great, the nachos, the turkey club wow home made bread too. I have eaten in more expensive high class restaurants in my life and this is better prices for better taste results. I here for 5 days and 3 to go.. :) Wheelchair accessibility: We are using a walker and it is all good Access to restaurent, parking they even have rooms for better access and bath convenience.
Fast service. Decent meals.
Usually my experience isnt too bad here, but this afternoon it was awful. I had the snapper BLT, it tasted so fishy like it was previously frozen. It was so dry it was chewing on hard sawdust. The bacon was burnt to a crisp. The server never came to check in on us, and then we had to run back to the office so we didnt have time to wait and paid our bill and left. There was maybe 6 people in the restaurant, if it was busy I would have understood. Like I said, normally my experience is decent. This was absolutely awful. The worst fish I ever ate in NS. You would think being on the waterfront downtown the fish would be super fresh. Really disappointed.
Great service. Great food. Warm atmosphere. Came for burger week, will be back. Recommended. Parking: Covered parking at Purdys wharf.
Atmosphere is the best. Love the booths, bold colors, light fixtures. Very instaworthy. My service tonight was also really good.
I have gluten and dairy allergies so its hard to find restaurants that do a good job cooking a delicious meal without those two staples. The Harbourstone far exceeded my expectations. While other restaurants include gluten-free options, the Harbourstone is the first Ive seen in HRM to include both gluten-free options (GFO) and dairy free options (DFO) throughout their menu entire menu. They substituted the dairy with yummy equivalents rather than just taking it out and making the meal plain. Our meal was so good we went back the next day and had lunch. Great Job Harbourstone!
Ive eaten here twice. Both times service was very kind and attentive. First guy never remembered to bring sugar for the tea, but he was very kind and attentive for everything ends. The lady we had for breakfast was fantastic! She was on the ball, forgot nothing and went above and beyond checking in to see if I needed anything, or wanted a to-go tea when I was done. The dinner meal was ok. I ordered the parmasean risotto with fish on top. First was perfectly cooked, but the risotto lake wasnt flavor. It had too much balsamic glaze and not near enough salt. Husband ordered the burger and fries- it was good. Not fantastic, but good. Daughter got the fish with veggies and potatoes. It was very good! First place that had fish on the menu for kids! Breakfast was good. I had the classic eggs Benny. The eggs were medium (I prefer soft). Nothing special. Just good. Daughter had the corn flake crushed French toast - so crispy and soft at the same time. Would recommend! Kid-friendliness: High chairs, coloring pages, great menu!
The service was the best part! Hannah and Christian were fantastic and fun to be served by! The burger was tasty (although I think I let the bun get a little soggy cause I was busy chatting), fries are well seasoned and crispy, and the Dragon tail cocktail is worth trying! Great comfy seating with pillows, and they close later than other spots in the city. My friend got the fish and chips and said it was very tasty as well. Good place for quiet dinner and drinks with good company.
We popped in to grab some appetizers to share after walking around the Halifax Waterfront on an overcast day. Staff were awesome, the food - nachos, wings & ribs, and charcuterie board - was delicious, and the overall atmosphere was perfect. We will be back for dinner soon! Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp into the restaurant near the barrier-free entrance of the hotel.
Seafood chowder was good, but the hair on the plate with my bun was utterly disgusting and what was more disgusting was that they never even offered a discount won t be coming back here again
My last few visits for breakfast have been quite enjoyable, especially weekday mornings earlier when its quiet and peaceful. Very friendly staff. The spanish sweet potato omelet (caramelized onion, chives, Canadian aged cheddar, sweet potato, Yukon homestyle potatoes $14) is delicious. the Italian Frittata (pomodorini confit, proscuitto, basil ricotta, Yukon potatoes $17) is also great. My favorite is the huevos rancheros (poached eggs, black beans, stewed tomato, tortilla, house pico de gallo, avocado $15). The Shakshuka Eggs (baked eggs, spiced tomato & red pepper sauce, feta, grilled house rosemary focaccia $15) is very flavorful and nice on a cold winter morning, although I think Id enjoy it more for lunch than breakfast. The vegan Buddha Bowl is very healthy and satisfying. Tofu scramble, avocado, pickled veg, some flavored rice, Asian pancakes. The egg white fritata is decent, with large Yukon gold home fries cooked right in it, a spicy sour cream drizzle and strong basil taste. Basically there is a lot of variety here that you often dont get at other hotel restaurants, with the menu changing every few months, which I love. A whole pot of coffee tops it off for perfection.
I booked this restaurant for a birthday breakfast. The service was terrible. They didn t even wished the birthday girl Happy Birthday. I asked about a special dessert for the birthday like they do at most places and my server told me to go speak with the hostess. Btw, the reservation was booked a wk in advance with a request for mimosa for the birthday girl. I had to request it, so not sure why they ask about special requests when booking. If you need a quick bite you might stop in but not the place for a special occasion, as the service could care less. And there was no shortage of staff. We had to park and walk here, yet no consideration. Do better Marriott!
Waited 20 minutes nobody even came over to the table they seated us at
Mussels were delishious
Yummy salad. Had to find server a few times. Did mention had to get back to work, perhaps he did not hear. Food : 5/5
The chowder is full of seafood, and the fish and chips had the best batter I ve ever had! Highly recommend.
Ive had a lot of chowder in a lot of places and this is probably the best in the city. About to dig into my steak frites.
Friendly service! Thoughtful and warm smiles
My husband and I had breakfast here this morning! We LOVED the cute booth. So cozy. The atmosphere was great. We were pleasantly surprised ar the positions of food, as a lot of places are cutting back. Large positions made you feel you got your moneys worth. Food was perfect. Everything came out just as we asked. Also hard to come by I find these day. The staff were all great! We cant wait to come back for lunch/dinner Thanks for a great start to our day !
A great bar for drinks. I didn t eat any food so no comments. The atmosphere is great. People in Halifax are amazing.
Good spot and friendly service.
The fish and chips are great, big portions, too. The service was great, considering it was Christmas day. Good selection of local beer on tap.
Cant stop at 5 stars on how this Marriott Waterfront property presented and delivered an amazing Christmas Brunch. Lobster Benedict with an amazing wine pairing. Service was on the mark, paced superbly. No hovering. One server from Peru, one from Nova Scotia teamed up to make our Christmas afternoon an truly memorable. Well done
Excellent Food and Excellent service. I definitely recommend the restaurant.
Amazing food and THE BEST service!! Can t recommend this place enough. *chefs kiss
Atmosphere was lovely, food was decent, but unfortunately the service was terrible.
Good place to have a drink
Food was amazing
Great atmosphere. Exceptionally friendly server! She just blended in and put up with all our silliness and added to the fun! Food was delicious and served fast despite an event going on in the main dining/bar area that evening. The restaurant is close to the casino on the pedway so no worries about weather. Can hardly wait for their weekend buffet to open up again!
The food was excellent but Annika was the best server we ve ever met. She made our experience so much better. Would definitely come again
Good customer service
Located in the hotel but the price is not more expensive than the others. Good food quality and wonderful service. We had dinner and breakfast. Will try again
When you ask for a salad you just get lettuce. And burnt toast on the club. Should have stayed with a downtown pub.
Fish and Chips are to die for.
Harbourstone is a great bar restaurant inside Marriott Hotel. The environment of the restaurant is very good, very clean, nice open area that made you feel so relaxing and comfortable. A wonderful place to enjoy a meal with family or friends. Amazing service, very friendly staff. We ordered brome lake duck and beef, the food was outstanding will definitely be back!
Food was so delicious and the service was so great, everyone was so super friendly.
Great turkey sandwich! And the mango cheesecake is wonderful
Great food and service
Reliably good food and service.
Great breakfast!!!
Great lunch with friends n colleagues in Halifax, NS
Staff were undertrained. First time we werent acknowledged. We had a wheelchair and there was plenty of room for it. Second time they said they were already closed although it was 950pm and they are in a hotel. Their hours said until 10pm. 3rd time we enjoyed a meal, I had a seafood stew. I made it back to my room and promptly threw up the whole meal. Not sure why. 4th time, we had a comped breakfast from Expedia and it was delicious but the server was not very explicit and hardly said a word even when asked questions. 5th time went for drinks and the server had no clue as to what he was doing. Even a novice server could have asked. Left angry. Even asked to talk to a manager who never appeared. For a hotel restaurant, they left much to be desired. We had 3 comped meals from Expedia but only used one as I was wary to eat there again. The hotel itself was excellent and the staff fantastic. Too bad the restaurant couldnt learn from them.
Little pricey but portions are good. Enjoyed classic breakfast
Ive been to the Harbourstone Pour House many times, usually for their Wednesday trivia night. Quite often there is a Weekly special Trivia Snack, like the shrimp and noddles pictured, which I usually order. The service is great, the location is nice, and the event is fun. My only recommendation is that they add more gluten-free options to the menu!
My wife and I ate here while staying at the Marriott. We both had the eggs Benedict with home fries. Everything was very good and cooked perfectly. The coffee was good as well. The service was very good too. Update: We stopped by for a quick bite and drink at happy hour. We shared an Ocean sampler and it was delicious. Nice to have other choices besides fried seafood. We be definitely going back on our next visit but not going to share this time.
We had the salmon eggs Benedict and regular eggs Benedict. The portions were a bit small, and the hollandaise tasted a bit off - a bit too much wine or vinegar. The service was good.
Annika is a sweet Warm smile and nice service
The breakfast here is always wonderful, no matter how busy it is we are met with lovely service and tasty food every time. The eggs Benedict is the best. Our most recent server, Grace, was extremely personable (which makes a big difference, especially at 7 am) and very sweet. We had so many laughs! My husband and I have never had a bad experience, and recommend this restaurant whenever friends and family are in town. Upbeat atmosphere, great food with perfect portions, endless coffee refills, and servers that feel like they actually want to be there!!! 6 stars if I could!
Generous portions and tasty breakfast. I also appreciate how early they open. On Saturday morning most places (including the restaurant in ny own hotel) werent open yet. They were so I enjoyed a full breakfast and pleasant servers.
Restaurant in the Marriot hotel wonderful wait staff, food was great sour beer would be my recommndation to try with your dinner! Kid friendly
Generally, Not a big review guy. Nachos here are the best in Halifax, have to give credit where credit is due. Caramelized onions and Maple bacon bits give if a different profile from anywhere. Sit at the wood, have a cocktail share the nachos. Cheers.
We pre-booked a dinner for a large group. The food was good, except for the smaller portion size. Service was friendly and courteous. Environment is amazing for networking and socializing. BUT, it took them more than two hours to serve our orders. Moreover, there were frequent errors in the order such as the chips and sauce were missing from my order of fish and chips. That adversely affected our whole experience and part of the trip to Halifax.
We enjoy are staying + this restaurant have amazing food & service Me & my fiance recommande this hotel and the restaurant
Stayed here on business. Restaurant was fairly empty at 5 pm. One waitress, one bartender and one greeter on staff. Took 15 mins for a drink. Another hour for the soup of the day. Very pricey. Go down the street and youll get better service for the price.
Lovely experience with great food and service. Rommel was amazing with a huge constant smile.
Sat outside for a couple of drinks and snacks. The outdoor fire pits are awesome, and produce a surprising amount of heat. The service was excellent, and the drink options were good. It would be nice to have a few more vegetarian options on the menu. Book ahead if you want to sit outside since the tables seem full most of the time.
Friend staff
They need to remove open table when they are not open and offering bookings!
Great atmosphere and excellent menu(amazing fish & chips). One of the best patios in the city as well!
I tried this place twice thinking the first time was perhaps an off day. Unfortunately both times I was treated to a consistently bad experience. The staff are unattentive. There was a line 10 people deep and waiting 15 minutes before someone came to let us know about seating arrangements. Food was incredibly slow. When it did arrive it was cold and certainly not very good. Stay away or at the very least plan an hour and a half for your eggs and toast breakfast.
Slow slow service! Waited 10 mins to be given a table. I had the pancakes which were really good! Loved the assorted berries it gave an amazing freshness.
Great service!
Great customer service, food looked good and tasted great aswell.
Okay food, but pretty standard for overpriced hotel food. Not a great atmosphere, no patio, but friendly staff. Fine in a pinch.
Great breakfasts (Bennys and the salmon and bagel) and awesome seafood chowder. Well be back when were in Halifax again!
My server Erin was excellent! The Bacon Eh Poutine Burger for Halifax Burger Week 2021 was amazing and those fries were to die for as well! It was my second time coming to the Harbourstone Pour House and I will definitely be back again!
We bragged about the seafood chowder to some recent visitors only because we had always enjoyed the Marriotts chowder. What a mistake. I was so embarrassed I took them there. The chowder was cream and potatoes, very little fish and not a bit of lobster, which it always had before. I realize the cost of everything has gone up, so raise the price. People will pay for memorable chowder.
Nice food, very friendly staff, a bit heavy on the salad dressing, so if you like it lightly dressed, ask for it on the side. Tries really hard to please
The best nachos in the city hands down. Great staff, wonderful ambiance.
Good seafood
Great food! My boyfriend and I went to the Harbourstone Sea Grill & Pour House as part of the Dine Around Halifax event. Between the two of us, we had everything on the Dine Around menu and it was delicious! The presentation of the food was lovely, and the service was fast. The seating was very comfortable, and we can t wait to go back and try things off their regular menu.
Nice atmosphere but super expensive. 2 ceasars and a bowl of potato chips was $36. This wont be a place I will frequent.
Really good appetizer and sandwich. Definitely with going again. Good service, too.
Buffet was good quality, but low on selection for the price
The food and drinks were good but not quite worth the price, you can find a comparable steak at $22 as opposed to the $30 charged here. The seating is very unique and intimate which I found nice, but could use a little more privacy. The fries were surprisingly tasty.
Stopped in for some snacks and a drink before the concert great little bar
Great spot overlooking the water, food was great, service was ok
Best chowder in town
Outstanding experience! Excellent service, meals, and atmosphere. Thank you Taylor!! We can t wait to come back!!
Enjoyed a tasty dessert and the relaxed setting. Service was great.
Food was delicious
Christmas brunch simply bad, stale cold food. Disappointing is an understatement. Not worth it.
Great find! Very reasonable prices! Food was very good! Best Nachos I ve had in a long time! Great service as week, as we were in a bit of a rush to get to the theatre.
This is a special place to have breakfast - the staff is very nice and the ambiance is modern and relaxing. We like to sit in a booth which is like a romantic little nook. The breakfast menu is quite delicious and they make efforts to accommodate for dietary requests, their gluten free selections are truly delicious - I always ask for one of their muffins when I am there - and rarely eat gluten free baked goods at any other time. Also, the restaurant is ideally located right beside the lovely Halifax boardwalk.
Our server was friendly and quick. The kitchen needs to get it together tho. Us and two other tables were the only ones in at the time. Took 30 min to get our nachos which were excessively greasy and the combination of toppings we found off putting (thought we would try something new) my fiance had the Philly cheese steak sandwich and described the taste as being more like a ceasar salad. I had the bbq chicken sandwich and the meat was way over seasoned and over cooked (dry and chewy). The buns were over taking everything on both sandwiches. Fiance was sick after.
Been to the conference rooms multiple times. Great facilities.
Awesome service. Great food. Peter will take good care of you and make you feel at home.
Great for conferences
Food and service was amazing
Decent beer select. Quite a few local beer.
They catered to my allergies very well, given I have 12 anaphylactic allergies
Great spot in Halifax Amazing service and food Live entertainment
The chowder was amazing ! Excellent service .
Always had great experience here. Wings and seafood pasta was a staple every time and never let us down. Last time we went they changed the way the wings were done and they were terrible. There was 4 wings and the rest of the basket was cauliflower. Then we got the fish tacos. What a disappointment. It looked like they used a breaded fish stick and removed the breading. Although we were only looking to share appetizers this time around it was a big let down. Seems like the classic change in management situation, doing cutbacks and messing with the quality of the food. Won t be back and won t recommend.
Good food, decent service, expensive orange juice
Very classy
Great friendly service, both evening dining experiences were pleasant. Food was premium.
Decent drinks and nibbles
Restaurant is delicious here. Unfortunately it feels more like a bar/hotel restaurant since they are no outside views.
Organised a company function here. The helpful staff made it a painless process. The night of the service was very friendly. The food was good, I did not hear any complaints.
Hotel bar
