British-style watering hole serving local & imported beers & classic pub grub in a stately setting.
Henry House in Halifax holds a special place in our hearts, as it was where my wife and I celebrated our engagement. This charming, historic pub offers a cozy and intimate atmosphere, perfect for creating unforgettable memories. The building itself, a beautiful 19th-century stone house, exudes warmth and character. The menu is a great mix of hearty pub classics and elevated dishes, with something to please every palate. The lamb shank and fish and chips are particularly noteworthy, both bursting with flavor and perfectly cooked. Pairing our meal with one of their local craft beers made the experience even better. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, adding to the magic of our celebration. Their genuine hospitality made us feel like part of the Henry House family. Whether you’re marking a special occasion or just looking for a cozy spot to enjoy a great meal, Henry House is a true Halifax treasure. It will always be a place we hold dear, and we can’t wait to return.
I love this historical building. They've kept all the charm. Staff were wonderful, only a 4 star because they ran out of 2 of the items we ordered. Would've taken a picture but the 3rd floor is so dim for atmosphere in the evening, with fireplace, that nothing would've shown up very well. All 3 floors have something different to offer.
Such a lovely place. Loved the food. Wonderful service. Peaceful atmosphere. The patio has a great summer vibe. We visited in late August so after the sun set (and I had no sweater) I got cold and we moved into the dining room which was just lovely. So homey but historical. The food was excellent. The staff were very friendly and attentive without being clingy. I would definitely visit often if I lived nearby.
I recently visited Henry Restaurant with my students, and it was an exceptional experience for all of us. The food was absolutely delicious, with a great variety that catered to everyone's tastes. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. The ambiance was warm and welcoming, which made our group feel right at home. My students couldn't stop talking about how much they enjoyed the meal and the overall experience. I highly recommend Henry Restaurant for anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience. We'll definitely be back 😍
Late night stop and the kitchen was still open after 1030 on a Saturday. Our server was excellent, gave good recommendations which the food lived up to. Great "Ultimate Burger" and Fish and Chips.
My boyfriend and I were visiting Halifax for vacation from Boston and first came on a weeknight to try their food. Mason, the bartender let us know about their upstairs bar open on Fridays and Saturday nights, and honestly, some of the best cocktails we’ve ever had! Beautiful, classic cocktails. Mason made the best clarified milk punch and each of the other drinks we had were absolutely perfect. Would highly recommend and are looking forward to coming back in the future🥂
I had the crab cakes with a sticky toffee pudding and an aged cask ale. The crab cakes were spectacular but the garden salad that accompanied could not keep up. The sticky toffee pudding was not too sweet and you could taste the dates in the mixture. The aged cask ale is the winner of the night. If you enjoy beer do not miss out on these.
I can’t believe I have never put in a review for this Halifax gem. This place has been a perennial favourite since before it was Henry House - back when it was the Granite Brewery this spot was a regular hang out during all of my uni days - I even had my rehearsal dinner here (for my first wedding lol). It’s always been amazing. Great food, great vibe, with a different feeling on each of its three floors. The basement is more of a proper pub, somewhere to hang out, have pints, study or watch the Coronation Street omnibus. The main floor has a beautiful fireplace and a slightly more formal (but still relaxed) vibe. The curry is great, but my personal favourite has always been the smoked salmon Club sandwich with their house salad, which is divine with blueberries, goat cheese and a balsamic mix vinaigrette which just makes it sing. The pastas are also a big hit, as are all of the traditional pub dishes - bangers and mash, pasty of the day. So good! This place is a landmark, both historically and gastronomically, so do yourself a favour and go!
Great selections
One of the best hamburgers in Halifax!
Been coming to the Henry House since the early 90s. Service and the food have always been top notch
Really beautiful old building great atmosphere good service and food, would go again.
Very good french onion soup. I recommend this place :) The staff were super sweet, and the atmosphere of the basement was immaculate Food : 5/5
Spent over 30 minutes waiting for an appetizer. When I asked how much longer, I was informed a table of 20 was upstairs, which makes me more sympathetic, but I still think our mushrooms could have been brought sooner. Once I got my food, I found it bland. My seafood chowder had as much flavour as the bread that came with it, other then the mussels which I can t lie, were pretty good. I tried my girlfriend s lamb, which while well cooked and falling off the bone, I also personally found to not be very flavourful. I did enjoy the overall layout of the restaurant in the basement, which had a fireplace and a cool overall design. The wait staff were also polite, would have ranked service higher if it wasn t for the wait time.
Have come several times that Ive started trying the specials! Seafood chowder is amazing, though I recommend ordering a side or appetizer to go with it as you might not find it filling. Ive also ordered the fish and chips before which is quite good too. Also discovered a new fav beer here, Toller Gold. The stout cask ale is legendary and also good that you can order a half pint if you want to watch your weight or alcohol consumption. Pies are moist and tasty. The side salad option is so-so (pictured is fries with forgettable spring mix) Wonder if theres a steamed vegetable option which would be perfect? Basement is cozy with a fireplace on cold nights. If the upstairs is open (weekends), definitely have a look especially at night.
Chantelle made our night tonight - incredible service so professional and so kind. The kind of server that boosts the experience. So so amazing she deserves a raise, put her whole heart and soul into the work and made our night. :)
The shepherds pie was wonderful. The beer was fresh. Everything was lecker.
Fall in love with English national cuisine in Halifax instead of London. Oooh this pie!!! Youll lick your fingers - delicious, tender and melting in your mouth! We decided not to stop and ordered pudding - and it was also a wonderful discovery for us. Thanks to whoever made this - its a masterpiece.
Such a cool old house converted to a British pub. Good hearty food. The fish and chips was the stand out winner with a massive piece of fish and fantastic, skin on, crispy fries.
Ive been going to Henrys for over twenty years. Everything is good - food, service, atmosphere, all of it. Heart warming and pleasant. Always.
Great piece of England is found in Halifax Nova Scotia. Best place is downstairs
Fresh fries. Steak n mushroom pie was good. Good options on tap. Like many restaurants nowadays I feel portion could have been a tad bigger for the price, maybe an additional side, but a common theme nowadays with shrinkflation. Always a solid choice.
Had a great time at Henry House! Our turkey pie was fantastic and our service was fast and friendly. Chantelle is wonderful! I will be back!!
Had shepherd s pie! Yummy. Lovely outdoor seating area
We recently ate dinner at The Henry House in Halifax. Being overloaded with seafood for days, we decided to take a break and try an authentic pub. The steak and mushroom pie was incredible. Homemade pastry with loads of steak and mushrooms. For dessert we tried the Sticky Toffee Pudding which was incredible, as well as the Chocolate Beer Cake which was also to die for. Our server Olivia was exceptional. Highly recommend this establishment for a wonderful dining experience.
Good food, great service in a refined, charming, and interesting venue. Be sure to visit the 3rd floor even if you dine below.
Love the outdoor patio
It was an afternoon stop for a beer on a hot day. There were only eight of us on the patio, and as far as i could tell no one else inside, but the service was very slow.
The Henry House is a Halifax gem, offering a cozy and historic setting that s perfect for a relaxing meal or a casual drink. The real highlights here are the amazing cask ales expertly crafted and always fresh and the delicious British pies. The hearty, flaky pies, paired with a pint of their signature ale, make for an unforgettable dining experience. With its warm ambiance and attentive service, The Henry House is the ideal spot for anyone craving traditional British comfort food and a top-notch beer selection.
Its fine, food was decent but not much atmosphere and its warm in the summer.
Awesome atmosphere, great food.
Good restaurant, fair prices. The chowder is excellent, the lamb burger is interesting. Quiet outdoor terrace. Warm welcome, impeccable service. I recommend
Enjoyed my meal on the patio.
This is hands down our favorite restaurant in the city. We try to get to the drawing room at least once a month. The ambience and the food are exceptional, as well as Adina and Masons service. Can not recommend this restaurant enough. We take all of our friends here, especially those who are visiting us from out of town.
Great little pub!! Lovely staff
Great piece of history, excellent food and outstanding service. Nice walk from the cruise port
I sat in the upstairs cocktail lounge for an early dinner of the chowder, which I enjoyed a ton. The bartender was very knowledgeable and made me a fantastic Clover Club which was bursting with raspberry flavour.
Quite possibly the best pub in the whole country.
One of the oldest buildings in Canada houses an absolutely outstanding restaurant with very kind serving staff and great food. Be sure to ask about the epic history of this 200 year old establishment. My husband and I came here after frequenting many popular places in Halifax and this is our new #1 restaurant. We had the pleasure of meeting Jess (the owner), she has extensive and impressive knowledge of the history of the building, the business, and brewery of which Henry House was built upon. It was truly one of the best dinners we had in the city and we learned so much on the history of Beer in relation to Halifax, Britain, the prohibition, the explosion, war years and up until when the current owner s took possession of the building and restored it to glory. If you have the pleasure of talking to any of the staff at this establishment, the history is absolutely worth hearing.
We went here to eat our 1st night of a 10 day NS trip. The meat pies were AMAZING and our service was just as good. Our waiter gave us some tips for traveling to Mahone Bay (yes we ate at Rebeccas and it was amazing!) and Lunenburg. We would make it a point to eat here again if ever in the area!
Great atmosphere in this pub. Lamb burgers on an egg briosce bun are just great. Service was very quick and very friendly.
Went last night and really enjoyed it. Batter on the fish and chips was a bit heavy but the fish was fresh & the beers were amazing. Also tried the sticky toffee pudding - buttery & one of the best I ve had. Would highly recommend - great service too.
Yum yum.
Great food
Light meal on the patio was lovely. Excellent selection of tap craft ales, the food was 1st rate as was the service. Thank you Melanie!
Great classic pub food, lovely staff, nice atmosphere. Would love if they had AC but it is a very old building so I cant quite fault them for that Parking: We parked at superstore and walked over. Street parking was difficult to find.
Warm cozy atmosphere , excellent service. A few minutes walk from the Westin. Food was very good.
Best calamari on planet earth!!!
We first requested seating on the patio as it was a very comfortable temperature outside. After Alex took our order the temperature was starting to drop and we requested to be seated inside. Absolutely not an issue as all of the staff were focused on our dining experience and we were seated inside. Alex was working the patio but continued to serve us during our dinner and dessert. The seafood chowder has been the best I ve tasted since arriving in Halifax. I recommend it and will probably return for more during our stay. 5 stars!!!
Food was excellent and the staff were very friendly.
A really nice experience. Situated in a historic house has 3 levels with different ambiences. The main floor was traditional pub and the upper floor was quieter with comfortable chairs and relaxed vibe. Food was delicious. Service excellent. Highly recommend.
The vibes in here were awesome, such a cool place. Buy the staff took extra care to make our visit memorable for my wifes birthday and I cant say enough about how kind and fun they were for our date night. Great food and drink was just the icing on the cake!
Great restored place. Has lots of seating. Lobster roll was on special the day we went.
We fell in love with Henry House. We sat downstairs in the pub. The food was very good and the beers were cold. Our waiter was very friendly and made a good recommendation on the beers we drank. We like Henry House so much we went back a couple of days later. The same bartender/waiter recognized and even remembered the beers we had and loved. If I lived in Halifax, this would be my go to restaurant on a regular basis.
An old fashion tavern. An old building with three options to enjoy a local beer. Basement, which is a pub; first floor, which is the bar-restaurant and the second floor, which is the cocktail room. Order a local Sober Island beer, which is served the old-fashioned way, that is, they pump it from the barrel because it is not carbonated. There is no parking. Its worth arriving, drinking a couple and continuing.
First off, loved our server he was great!! Second, our food that we ordered was ok. We had three meals. Haddock and rice was delicious. Fish and chips nothing special. For me, I try the veggie burger everywhere I go and it was disappointing, I didn t even eat more than 2 bites. It was dry, which wouldn t have been so bad if the burger had a drip of sauce on it. I clearly didn t read the full caption in the menu, however I have never had a veggie burger with zero sauce. Rice was good though. We eat out a lot and the fruit flies were out of control at our table. We did have wine, I spent the whole time covering my glass and swatting the flies. They were definitely a distraction lol. I kept wondering how the kitchen was if our table had so many flying around. I get some things are hard to control, but I ve never eaten out and experienced the fruit fly chaos. So I hope they can mitigate this situation as summer still has a ways to go!
Great British pub food in an historic building. A lovely experience.
Absolutely delicious pot pie. Well worth the wait! Handmade flakey crust. Historic home with an interesting past.
When you look up the Pub in the dictionary, youll find the definition as, Henry House. And when yourre there always listen to your server, especially if shes Olivia. Ive been to my fair share of British pubs, but unless youre on the other side of the Atlantic, nothing gets you closer to the experience than Henry House. The atmosphere was spot on and the food was the same. I wish I had another night so that I could try the rest of the menu, but I went with Olivias suggestion and had the Fish and Chips. Always.... always listen to your server. 10 outta 10. Thank you Halifax for a memorable stay and thank you Henry House for feeding a hungry traveler.
Absolutely terrific, from the outstanding communication, beautiful appointed room, and great location. The linen and bedding clean and comfortable. The bathroom well stocked, clean and functional. Terrific sitting room with a view. Bar fridge, microwave, dishes, glasses cutlery, coffee and tea. Space heater if needed( wasnt). Location is a short walk to water, or downtown, and theaters. Would definitely recommend this host and property. 5 stars Plus.
Food was pretty good, super cool heritage building
Favourite neighbourhood haunt. Oddly enough, the kitchen only makes over easy eggs. What a diva. Imagine.
Wow! The weirdest and smallest calamari I have ever experienced. Staff were great. Ambiance was pretty cool and very similar to traditional/authentic Irish pub. Food : 3/5
Good food, and the staff was really friendly and attentive, even when we showed up with 20 people 15 minutes before the kitchen closed! Thanks for the great evening!
Always great! Their pies are always authentic and tasty. Great atmosphere and staff!
We loved it! Food, service, and vibes were spot on. The only thing missing from our visit was a ghost sighting
Amazing food and atmosphere. I got the steak and mushroom pie and it was some of the best food I ve tried recently. Can t wait to go back!
Wonderful staff and the food is insanely delicious. A gem of a spot tucked away in the corner of Barrington Street. The lamb burger is delicious and a must try.
If old buildings arent really your thing then the atmosphere might not be for you, but the food and staff are consistently very good! I appreciate that it stays open late, but to also offer some of the best pub food in Halifax at reasonable prices on top of that? GOAT contender
My fave pub in Halifax!!! So authentic and the food is incredible. The vibe is very old school and I love it. Portions are awesome. Lobster dip is to DIE FOR!! Food
Just one of those nice places to go
This place is outstanding. Dates back to the 1820 s. Atmosphere is that if an old Scottish Pub. Must visit for those that like a low key cozy atmosphere.
Good beer menu and delicious food.
good food. nice spot. we love going here when in Halifax.
Wonderful beer! Love propellor ESB!
Had an early fish and chips meal last night (Jan 24) and loved the atmosphere. The waiter (I missed her name) was delightful and helpful and enhanced the experience enough Im writing my first review in decade.
Food and service were amazing! We dined in the lower level and it had a cool, historical period feel, very relaxing and cozy.
Very cool old pub and a great place to stop for a pint and some food. The downstairs pub area had a nice fireplace going but the entire building has a great atmosphere.
We noticed this designated historic property near the accommodations we booked for a winter weekend getaway in the city. Fast forward a year and we now live here. Checked out Henry House after a live music event. The Drawing Room was open (only on Friday/Saturday), so we ventured upstairs instead of down to the traditional pub. What a lovely, classy and cozy lounge to enjoy a local draft beer or cocktail inspired by days gone by early 1800s, prohibition era or modern twist on an old fashioned. 10/10 Bonus: Learned about the Halifax House architectural style.
First time dining at the Henry House and it was a pretty disappointing experience. The fish and chips was the smallest portion I have ever received. The fish was not crispy at all, fries were mediocre. The table sitting next to us also ordered a fish and chips and the portion was much larger so not sure what happened. The server very clearly did not want to be there and it came across in his attitude. It was cool and drafty despite the fire places. Wouldnt eat there again.
Oh the Henry House so much love for everything they do. Our last visit was spent at their christmas high tea for our anniversary. They went above and beyond. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, the food - to die for, and the customer service always leaves you feeling like you re a part of the family. We will return time and time again.
The best restaurant in the city. Dont be fooled by national reviews that tout other spots in the city etc. this is our go to in the city, the food is always spot on and the drinks. Also my mother in law loves it which says a great deal :)
This place slightly off the beaten path has become a favorite in our visits to Halifax. We love the pub decor on the basement floor, but everyone was ecstatic about the drawing room visit for out of this world cocktails. Its only open on Friday and Saturday night but I dont think Ive ever seen a nicer pub. The setting is amazing. You feel like you go right back in time. Mason, the mixologist should be given the Order of Canada for his concoctions! He was 100 % of the time on the money. You just had to ask what type of taste you were looking for and he executed perfectly. We were a group of five. We were supposed to stay for one drink. Ended up have 5 or 6 and ordered a fantastic dinner while we were there. Mason and Adina made our night. This visit was the highlight of our boys trip. Well be back next year. But were secretly hoping to attract Mason to bartend one of our Ottawa summer partys this summer! Well done Henry House. Youve got a gem.
I really liked it here. Super cool vibe, yummy drinks and food. The only thing is we sat downstairs and we saw mice near our table and Im terrified of mice. I think you need to expect mice in an old building downtown but I didnt expect to see them so close to us during business hours.
Henry house has a really nice atmosphere and super friendly staff. I ordered the Ultimate Burger with fries and it was ultimately delicious! However, the fries were not as crispy as Id like. I also ordered a Negroni. It was tasty Recommended dishes
Fabulous atmosphere great drink choices very good bar food.
So tasty!! The staff were super friendly and helpful as well especially since I got a bit turned around in there vast space. Would go here again!
I have had lunch at the Henry House many times over the years. Pleasant staff, interesting craft beer and one of my favorite sandwiches in Halifax. The smoked salmon club is delicious and as far as I know unique to the Henry House.
I cant believe how reasonable their prices are for the quality and quantity of food. I had the roast beef dip, and Im still dreaming of it. The service was amazing, even with every table being occupied.
Excellent atmosphere and service. Very cozy space. Nice dinning room with a fireplace. Plenty of seating without feeling crowded. The basement pub area is also quite nice and lively. The food we chose wasnt great. So on the plus side, the kids fish and chips was great, their fries were great, something Ill likely try on a repeat visit. On the negative side, the pie crust for Cornish pasty wasnt good. Tasted like bisquick, quite dry and little flavour. I was disappointed because I do love that dish when its done differently. (Delish has much better pies at a more reasonable price.) The artichoke dip was alright but nothing special. Beer menu has quite a few local varieties but nothing (or perhaps not much if I missed one) British/UK. Thats more of a NS problem though. That said, we all had a good time and we would go back, but wed try different things to eat and drink.
Absolutely loved the atmosphere, and the service was excellent! Highly recommended and I will be back
Excellent pub with excellent food. I had the steak and mushroom pie and my wife had the pear and goat cheese salad. Both were great. Sat at the bar while I ordered take out. The staff were friendly and they had a good choice of beers. Definitely will return and try other food. The only issue, and this is an overall issue in Halifax, good luck with parking. Halifax is probably the worst city in Ive been to, including Toronto for parking. Expect to do some walking. So dont hold that against the Henry House because its not like you wont be in the same situation going elsewhere.
We called in for drinks on Sunday 5th March. Emily our server in the lower bar was superb, she said she had only been there a week, it didnt show because she was so good, so friendly, so welcoming. The beer was excellent too, they actually have cask conditioned ales which is quite rare in Halifax. What a cozy place with a roaring fire! Well done Emily.
I went to Henry House for the first time just last weekend. I am so happy I went. Everything was great from the food, to the staff, to the beautiful decor. Henry House is a sweet little place to go have some food and/or drinks, with very kind staff and a lovely atmosphere. We started with some nachos, which our waitress told us would be a very nice size, cheesy portion, also some of the best nachos in Halifax & she was spot on. I have never eaten nachos with pineapple on them before but I actually liked it more than I thought I would. The portions were a great size & the prices were decent. We also ordered some calamari, which was done perfectly and the sauce that came with it was delicious. We then ordered and shared a club wrap and Caesar salad, which I had to take my portion to go, but enjoyed later that evening at home and it was just as great as the rest of the food. I ended with a slice of chocolate beer cake, I normally wouldnt order chocolate cake but the waitress again recommended it and she was again spot on that it would be as good as she said it would. It was rich and tasty. I loved it & would recommend it as well. I didnt get the waitresses name that night but she was very friendly and personable, she told us allot about the history of the house and made the food recommendations that we enjoyed very much. Our experience was great. I will definitely be returning to Henry House in the future.
A must visit in Halifax
Not the most amazing vegetarian options, ur classic picks between a black bean burger or nachos... Service was incredible though, and the music is to die for
stunningly beautiful place! beer was not super great , but place and staff was fine.
Wonderful as always! Love all the food, great fish n chips, awesome fried chicken burger and delicious ceaser salad. Our server emily was the perfect amount of attentive and so sweet and personable. Perfect experience overall! Cant say enough good about henry house. Its easily my favourite spot in halifax, just so cozy and friendly. Thank you emily for a great experience!
Cozy pub atmosphere, great food and wonderful staff. The beer selection is better than most places and has more unique options. The menu isn t very extensive but what they do is done very well.
Excellent fish & chips Beautiful decor
Fantastic seafood and beer. Love the place event the front steps are worth talking about
Get the food, its good. Downstairs is a cozy hangout.
Propeller ESB on cask.
Fabulous food, mini beer tasters, great service!!!
Fish cakes, green tomato chow and homemade beans -- simply awesome! And you brought back Granite Brewery beer! Im in heaven!!
Ive been here twice already. GREAT food and excellent prices too. Beats any of the other pubs downtown, especially YFM. Do yourself a favour and order the Caesar salad! I cant wait to return.
We return every time we visit Halifax, Canada...we really like the place and the food Dietary restrictions: They adapt to your needs Parking: We have always found this place...although the parking lot is small.
Ive been going here regularly for over 8 years now and this is still one of my favorite spots in town. It has three levels that are all great for different moods. The basement pub is for loud jovial conversation, the middle floor is casual dining, and the top floor (only open on Fridays and Saturdays) is more of a cocktail lounge. The general atmosphere is cozy, and I love that its not over run with rowdy students despite being in the South end. Its also one of the only places in the city to serve my favorite beer peculiar from Granite brewery (I highly recommend). Ive had most food items on the menu now and Ive never been disappointed (except with the salads, which are quite small for the price). The staff are fantastic and attentive as well. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Im moving away soon and this will be a beloved spot that lives on in my memories. Ill be sad to leave it behind
The service was good, no complaints. I ordered fish and chips, the fish fillet was small and encased in a thick batter making the fish greasy, the chips were over cooked to the extent of being burnt. I will go back to the Henry House as it holds many good memories for me, however fish and chips will not be one of them
We come for the pies
Always a joy to visit when in town, food is always on point and staff are friendly.
Very stylish bar. There are many tables inside and outside. Friendly staff. Delicious food and large portions
Big portions. We were from the US on a cruise so I dont know about pricing but it seemed reasonable for the amount of food. Old building, lots of character.
Really fun neighborhood bar w a great outdoor patio...
Wow! This is an exceptional hidden gem. We loved the split dining areas. Basement/ main level and upstairs based on if you want louder to relaxing. Being British I ordered the Cornish pastie and to my surprise it tasted fantastic. Very well cooked to us British standards. Definitely recommend with great menu!
Excellent buttery battered fish and chips and great service including help when paying the bill
Like an old world pub. Dark and atmospheric
Nice little pub with good food. The prices are also fair. I recommend! I had the Fish N Chips which was fresh and fries crispy.
It is a wonderful place with its historical texture and culinary art that I have always enjoyed visiting during my time in Halifax. Tiramisu Duca stanbul -Turkey
This was a beautiful building, tastefully decorated and the service was great. We had to use stairs (a challenge for my partner) but the food was nice and we liked the music that was playing.
What a treat. A beautiful old building, amazing waiter, great food. After a very poor dinner the day before it was exactly what we were looking for.
I enjoy the Henry House, great service, great atmosphere! Don t recommend the calamari at all! They charged $12 for eight pieces on a flat board; I thought there was more to come but sadly not! Expensive tease. Thankfully the beer was cold!
Good authentic pub fare. Nice Irish stout. Had the fish cakes and steak & kidney pie. Great service.
Great service on a great patio. Our server (Jessica) was so good. Food was good with nice variety. Food
Steak and mushroom pie was very good. Ceasar salad was excellant. Small beers on tap. Food
Food was excellent. Dessert was great, drinks were delightful. Had a great time.
Very nice old building, classic pub. The food leaves A LOT to be desired. Fish and chips is often overly greasy to the point where the batter falls off the fish, and the fries are severely underseasoned. The veg that comes with most dishes is frozen and steamed, and the dish is regularly well over $20. The beer is flat in the summer because the tap is faulty. To me, this is a place for seniors. Underseasoned food, very classic atmosphere, standard pub fare done below par.
Great ambiance, excellent crab cakes and delicious cheesecake. A must for a visit to Halifax.
Had to have the lobster roll.
Wow! Definitely, one of the best Fish and Chips Ive had the chance to eat!
Great spot. Service was slow and it wasn t that busy. Good food. Nice atmosphere. I would go back.
Wife had Steak pot pie fresh cut fries, I had fish and chips. Both excellent. Glad we stopped in during our east coast trip. Located in a Beautiful historic building inside and out.
The food and the service was excellent. A great place to meet with friends.
The best seafood chowder Ive ever had, amazing!
Fish and chips with a pint of propeller cask ESB made for a great dinner
The atmosphere at the Henry House is unbeatable. Staff are friendly and accommodating and provide great service. We visited all three levels and either ate or had drinks. Prices are reasonable. Great place to visit while in Halifax.
Great spot for food and extra special drinks with that old town vibe
Great food
French onion soup is the bomb! Love the cask ales and dark and malty options.
Always a treat to dine here. Fantastic restaurant and pub.
The historic home of one of Canada s Fathers of Confederation is worth the visit just for that fact. But the food and local beers available make this a must visit! Adeena was a friendly and welcoming server and the chicken curry I had was excellent. The Butterscotch Budino dessert was very tasty and satisfying! (It s a fairly small portion, which suited me just fine- but be careful with the first spoonful as the salted caramel is likely to spill over and it would be a shame to waste any!) To top it off I met the owner and can t say enough good things about entrepreneurs who take a strong interest in preserving Canadian history. Be sure to visit this Pub!
Great atmosphere and tasty food
Good atmosphere, busy but not too busy, service was fine.
Great food and beer. Recommend the fish and chips and Sheppard pie
Make a reservation! Old style pub ambience was nice and food was fantastic. I had seafood chowder at the recommendation of my compatriots. As a westcoaster I had expectations. And they met them well. A fist for me was the eggnog creme brulee. I would have liked a touch more nutmeg but thats me and it was the incredible mix of smooth and crunchy that a good brulee should be. Delicious! Thanks for a great evening with new friends.
Pretty good Id say the food was very fresh
Andria server was extremely efficient and professional. Absolutely love it
Ive passed by this spot hundreds of times, and never went in. Now that Ive gone, I want to go back. Great atmosphere, good food and company.
This place is iconic! The atmosphere is incredible due to the history of the location. You can touch the actual original stonework that s over two hundred years old. The FOOD is BEYOND! You should definitely go.
Nice to see a historic property continuing to be used in a respectful way. Our food certainly showed the same level of care and attention. Upscale dining without feeling snobbish- comfort food with a twist. We will be back!
Stinks
